This paper provides a critical revision of all the pertinent historical and archaeological data pertaining to the presence of Saint Jerome in Rome, and in particular his activities, his places of residence and his social contacts within the Roman aristocracy. As assistant and secretary to Pope Damasus, Jerome worked in archives, situated on the western reaches of the Field of Mars. This study explores the literary and topographical evidence with regard to the block of San Girolamo della Carità, situated in the Western Campo Marzio, which is currently the site of the eponymous church.

Abstract:
The Asili di Carità was a non-profit educational institution established for very young children by the Catholic Church in 1836 in the City of Milan. This study shows how the First World War, changes in political ideology and economic developments in northern Italy directly impacted upon the, sometimes precarious, financial position of the Asili. Within the context of such change, the Board of the Asili enacted accountability through the maintenance and presentation of accounting records and meetings with stakeholders. This study draws from both public and private archives to examine the decisions made by the Board in response to change. The study focuses on the Asili’s relations with its most economically powerful stakeholders in the period from 1913 to 1926 as it transitioned from a privately funded organisation to one that was funded predominantly by the Municipality of Milan, before reverting to private hands.

The attacks on French settlements in the Caribbean during the Seven Years War can be considered an experiment prior to the one on Havana, probably the most significant victory of the conflict in the area. To reach this conclusion, this article analyzes the state of defensive constructions in Haiti, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica and Saint Lucia. To this end, fortification projects deposited in different archives have been consulted, in addition to the architectural remains still preserved. Subsequently, the different British attacks developed between 1759 and 1762 are examined from primary sources, assessing the relevance of the fortifications in the result.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract: The present work intends to study how the cathedral chapter of Majorca arranged the canonical houses destined to accommodate the cathedral canons during the Middle Ages. Based on the sources of the chapter archive, it was possible to document the rules that regulate the concession of the houses and the problems in their application, which could be explained by housing necessities and personal interests. Moreover, the chapter controlled the refurbishment made in the canonical houses, although the canons funded the works. All of that permitted an approach to the prebendaries’ daily life and understanding the system of canonical houses and the chapter’s participation in the Majorcan housing market.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Hospital care is changing, - dominated by the dollar and technology and the patient is taking second place. Nursing, traditionally known as being a caring profession, is not exempt from the changes and the traditional entrance interview to find caring students has been replaced by a computerised system. Graduates from university programs are being branded as non-caring. This research sought to find practical ways in which nurses showed caring to patients, and to develop a framework which could be used to teach and cultivate caring attributes in undergraduate students. A broad sweep of the past was taken to show how, dominated by disease and the necessity to take care of the suffering and infirm, nursing has been inextricably linked to the inability of science to cure. The discussion on the impact of the Therapeutic Revolution and a health care system, dominated by the dollar, places nursing and caring in perspective. Some philosophical, religious and psychological notions of caring were briefly explored. A participative paradigm underpins this research which uses a collaborative inquiry cyclical and reflective process of three phases. In Phase I a group of Graduate Registered Nurses reflected on the enacted/strategies/skills that were used to show caring to patients. Six key enactments were elicited from the total of 64 reflections that were submitted. Phase II constructed a framework that could be used to teach caring, which was then critiqued by an expert group of educators. Phase III returned to Phases I and II and used a process of reflection-on-reflection and a new emergent meaning of caring in nursing ensued. As a result of this reflection-on-reflection, a reconfiguration of the framework resulted in the development of the Care Connections model.

Abstract:
The central concern of this thesis is the diversity of the discourses of caring within nursing knowledge. Drawing on three of the tools of ‘Foucauldian archaeology’, namely the statement, discursive formation and discourse, ‘An archive of Caring for Nursing’ is identified. At least three discourses comprise this archive. These are ‘caring as being’, ‘caring as doing’, ‘caring as knowing’. Each discourse is described in the thesis and critically analysed for influences on contemporary nursing knowledge, education, theory, management and practice. Practice exemplars are utilised to elaborate the conflict between the author’s discursive position and the positions of other nurse practitioners and educators. The thesis contributes to nursing knowledge, nurse education and practice. How nurses are positioned within discourses of caring and how they resist within these discourses, is especially significant for nursing’s future.

Abstract:
AbstractIt is difficult to imagine being institutionalized in a mental hospital or asylum without having experienced it yourself. While we have a wealth of institutional source material on the system and formal practices, we only have a few scattered sources describing the experience of living in an institution. In this chapter, we try to get a deeper view of institutional placement in the Danish care system for the intellectually disabled in the period between 1933 and 1980. We use interviews with former inmates (and staff) and the few voices of the institutionalized that emerge from the system’s own archive materials to draw an overall picture of the experience of placement. The interviews and data collection are based on an investigation made for the Danish Ministry of Social Affairs in 2020–2022. We find the key experiences to be a lack of autonomy, the feeling of institutionalization as a way of life, stigmatization, ruptured family relations, and a fear of violence. The chapter also addresses methodological challenges in analyzing experiences of institutionalization. First, there is the problem of the generalization of experiences on the individual level. Second, the existing source materials (both interviews and written sources) are potentially biased. We know that the institutions caring for the intellectually disabled also included persons with very limited cognitive and communicational resources, who typically are silent in the existing sources.

Abstract:
Secondary use of medical data for research is desirable for intrinsic, ethical and financial reasons. In this context, the question becomes relevant as to how such datasets are to be made accessible to a larger target group in the long term. Typically, datasets are not extracted ad hoc from the primary systems, because they are processed qualitatively (FAIR data). Special data repositories are currently being built for this purpose. This paper examines the requirements for the reuse of clinical trial data in a data repository utilizing the Open Archiving Information System (OAIS) reference model. In particular, a concept for an Archive Information Package (AIP) is developed with the central focus on a cost-effective trade-off between the effort of creation for the data producer and the comprehensibility of the data for the data consumer.

Abstract:
Some moral philosophers in the West (e.g., Norman Daniels and Jane English) hold that adult children have no more moral obligation to support their elderly parents than does any other person in the society, no matter how much sacrifice their parents made for them or what misery their parents are presently suffering. This is because children do not ask to be brought into the world or to be adopted. Therefore, there is a "basic asymmetry between parental and the filial obligations." I argue against the Daniels/English thesis by employing the traditional Confucian view of the nature of filial obligation. On the basis of a distinction between 'moral duty' and 'moral responsibility' and the Confucian concept of justice, I argue that the filial obligation of adult children to care respectfully for their aged parents is not necessarily self-imposed. I conclude that due to the naturalistic character of the family, the nature of our familial obligations (such as parental caring for young children and adult children's respectful caring for aged parents) cannot be consensual, contractarian and voluntarist, but instead existential, communal and historical.

Abstract:
Abstract After studying with Patricia Carini, I began to characterize the Prospect School as a kind of oral culture. At first it seemed rather odd to talk about Prospect as oral because of the extensive amount of daily note taking and written documentation that goes on. The Archive itself is lined with shelf after shelf of records of staff meetings, notes from summer institutes, papers and published essays, graduate student theses, grant proposals, long narrative records for each student, catalogues for reference editions of the children’s files-and on and on. Teachers walk around with paper and pencil in hand. Children are observed, their drawings and written texts described, keywords reflected upon, teacher journals kept and exchanged and at times published.

Abstract:
The Castle of "paper". Excursus of Gallipoli’s castle presence in historical cartographyThe castle is located at the eastern part of the Gallipoli’s old town: the first data in archives and libraries started from the sixth century under the mention of castrum and in the following centuries there are many informations on parchments, written documents and bibliography published until today. The Syllabus Grecarum Membranarum from the twelfth century and the Statutum de reparatione castrorum of Frederick II are two precious sources about the primitive castle’s architecture. The structure endured the passage of the Byzantines, Normans, Swabians, Angevins and again, Aragonese, Venetians, Spaniards, Austrians and finally the Bourbons, until it became property of the State and now of the Gallipoli’s municipality. It has suffered over time numerous interventions to adapt it to new military needs: the castle was no longer effective with leading defence from new siege weapons, as for other architectures of the same period. The numerous representations preserved in Italian and European archives give a complete picture of the Gallipoli’s urban development and include the defensive system of the city: the different views illustrate the walls and allow us to understand the castle’s main evolutionary dynamics and its connection with the town.

Abstract:
The use of toponymy as an indicator of settlements and fortified structures: the Tuscan caseThe purpose of this contribution is to analyze the spatial distribution of the place names referred to the Tuscan territory, to fortified structures and settlements, through the study of the place names recorded geodatabase RE.TO.RE. (Regional Toponymic Repertory) created by the Tuscany Region with the scientific contribution of the Universities of Pisa, Florence and Siena. The Tuscan toponyms has been the object of both a synchronic study within each of the cartographic sources that make up the geographical database, and a diachronic analysis between the temporal thresholds in which the archive is articulated. The database, extrapolated from cartographic supports, in fact covers a time span between the first decades of the nineteenth century (nineteenth century land registries) and the most recent information series produced in the regional context (Carta Tecnica Regionale). In the contribution, the place names related in various ways to different types of structures and fortified settlements, such as castle, fort, tower, fortress, has been analyzed both in relation to the distribution and spatial aspects, and in reference to their evolutionary dynamics (persistence, disappearance, transformation), with the aim of identifying possible relationships between the territory and the distribution in time and space of the different types of fortifications. From a methodological point of view, the study has been carried out, in addition to the traditional tools of the topomastic survey, especially taking advantage of the potential of spatial analysis functions typical of geographical information systems.
