Abstract:
The Long-Term Credit Bank (LTCB) of Japan underwent a very traumatic reorganization beginning in 1998 following Japans economic collapse in 1989. The bank was beset with difficulties rooted in bad debts. Possible mergers with domestic banks were proposed, but the bank eventually was sold to an international group, which set about putting the bank back together, launching it in June 2000 as Shinsei Bank, Limited (Shinsei).

Abstract:
This work is focused on the problem of designing efficient reconfigurable multiplexer banks for RAM-based implementations of reconfigurable state machines. We propose a new architecture (called combination-based reconfigurable multiplexer bank, CRMUX) that use multiplexers simpler than that of the state-of-the-art architecture (called variation-based reconfigurable multiplexer bank, VRMUX). The performance (in terms of speed, area and reconfiguration cost) of both architectures is compared. Experimental results from MCNC finite state machine (FSM) benchmarks show that CRMUX is faster and more area-efficient than VRMUX. The reconfiguration cost of both multiplexer banks is studied using a behavioral model of a reconfigurable state machine. The results show that the reconfiguration cost of CRMUX is lower than that of VRMUX in most cases.

Abstract:
AbstractDoes a financial system architecture anchored on banks perform better than one centered on markets in fostering technological innovations as engines of growth? In a panel of industrial sectors across a large cross section of countries, I find that while market-based systems have a general positive effect on innovations in all economic sectors, bank-based systems foster more rapid technological progress in more information-intensive industrial sectors, suggesting a heterogeneous impact of financial architecture. Thus, the relative performance of bank-based systems vis-à-vis market-based systems depends on the industrial structure of the economy.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the architecture of European banking institutions in Guangzhou, built on the territory of Shamyan island in the late 19th – early 20th century. A brief historical excursion into the history of the formation of the British and French concessions is given. This publication examines the stylistic and compositional features of the architecture of such banking institutions as: Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation; The Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China; International banking corporation (City Bank); Bank of Taiwan; Commercial Corporation of Mitsubishi; Yokogama Specie Bank; The E.D.Sassoon & Co.Ltd. и D. Sassoon Sons Co. Ltd; Bank of Indochina; China & France Industry Bank. A composite and stylistic analysis was conducted, an iconographic description of the buildings of the main banks located within the boundaries of the former European concessions on Shamyan Island is given The study reveals the general principles of the development of the architecture of banking institutions in Guangzhou. The materials and results of the research carried out by the authors of this article allowed us to formulate the following conclusions: 1. The territorial isolation of the Shamyan island from the Chinese part of Guangzhou, as well as the operation within the concessions of British and French laws, contributed to the fact that the development of the architectural ensemble of the island as a whole was carried out in line with the advanced West European architectural and urban trends. 2. Most of the banking buildings here are built in the eclectic style with the predominance of neoclassicism features, of course, this fact is connected with the desire of the owners of bank corporations to demonstrate to the clients and competitors the financial strength of their organizations. 3. In the architecture of the considered banking institutions there is an active use of tectonics and elements of the order system, colonnades, arcades, the allocation of the first floor in the form of a rustic plinth. The motifs of Renaissance architecture, Baroque and Art Nouveau are also traced. 4. The formation of the appearance of banking buildings in Shamyan was strongly influenced by local conditions. The hot and humid subtropical climate of the south of China contributed to the spread in the architecture of the structures of this type of order colonnades, forming deep open verandas, as well as the use of X-shaped creaks-elements to ensure the natural ventilation of buildings, which, in addition, became an expressive element of the facade decoration

Abstract:
In 1980, Andrew Saint told members of the Victorian Society that the Arts and Crafts architect Horace Field (1861-1948) was ‘frequently referred to but rarely discussed’. Thirty years later the situation is largely unchanged. Yet Field played an influential role in the architectural development of the twentieth-century English and Welsh high street. He was a significant figure in the process by which the architectural styles of bank premises were, by the late 1920s, transformed from ones very similar to those of commercial or municipal offices into a distinct and domestic interpretation of the style of Queen Anne. His contribution was two-fold: as the designer of a series of branches of Lloyds Bank, and as co-author (with his former assistant, Michael Bunney) of the widely read English Domestic Architecture of the XVII and XVIII Centuries, published in 1905.

Abstract:
According to the classic view of architecture, its primary function is to create spatial law and order so as to improve the functioning of man in the architectural environment. Classical works on the theory of architecture focused on those qualities that portrayed architecture as having a clearly positive dimension, the pursuit of which should be the primary task of an architect. Is it true, however, that architecture has only one common meaning? This assertion is undermined by buildings constructed on borderlands, which are imposed on one community by another. An example is the wall being erected by Israel since 2002 to separate the state from the West Bank. While it has become a symbol of security and order for the Israelis, it is an emblem of enslavement and chaos for the Palestinians who have been trapped on the other side of the barrier.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to draw on the bank rent approach to evaluate the existing pattern of financing of Islamic banks and to propose a fairly new conceptualization of Islamic bank rent. Design/methodology/approach – The bank rent theory is adopted to generate the theoretical underpinnings of the issue. After that, empirical evidence from the banking sector of Bangladesh is used to support the arguments. Findings – Repeated transactions under murabaha are observed in the Islamic banking sector of Bangladesh. The asset-based financing gives the Bangladeshi Islamic banks relatively higher Islamic bank rent opportunity for protecting their “franchise value” as Shari’ah-compliant lenders, while responding to the periodic volatility in transaction costs of profit-and-loss sharing. Research limitations/implications – The bank rent approach suggests that the murabaha syndrome can be ironically justifiable. On the other hand, the current profit-and-loss sharing risk provides an idea of the difficulty in assuming the participatory financing with higher credit risk in practice. Islamic scholars and the regulatory authority need to design an appropriate financial architecture which can create different levels of rent opportunities for Islamic banks to avail the benefit from the variety of Islamic financing as declared by Islamic Shari’ah. Originality/value – This paper introduces a fairly new concept of “Islamic bank rent” to make sense of the murabaha syndrome. This approach also contributes to clarifying the unique risk and cost to be compensated with the spreads that Islamic banks are expected to earn. To draw empirical evidence, as far as it could be ascertained, the data of both Islamic banks and conventional banks with Islamic banking windows/branches are used for the first time.

Rising from the debris of the World War-II and also the devastations caused by the great depression of 1930s, the Bretton Woods twins—international monetary fund (IMF) and the world bank; rather the world bank group1—have over the years emerged as important players of the international financial arena. They are the major component of international financial architecture in addressing global macro and financial stability. The Bank together with the regional multi-lateral development banks (MDBs), such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Asian and the Pacific region, is making its contribution in building necessary infrastructure needed to initiate and support the development process, the recent reduced emphasis on such projects notwithstanding.

Abstract: The implementation of the diversification strategy carried out by banks and how it impacts performance has become an exciting issue for academics and management practitioners to discuss because the final result of implementing the strategy is still debatable whether it can bring benefits or otherwise harm banking performance. Islamic banks, as banks that are still in the stage of development, have more significant potential to benefit from implementing a diversification strategy. This study aims to examine the effect of diversification on the performance of Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia, especially funding diversification during the 2010-2020 period. Sources of data were obtained from the official website of the Financial Services Authority www.ojk.go.id, and every Islamic commercial bank. Panel data analysis was used to regress the variables in this study. The cost to income ratio (BOPO) represents cost efficiency as a proxy for measuring the performance of Islamic commercial banks. The size of the bank, which is interacted with the diversification of funding, is used as a moderating variable. This study shows that the effect of funding diversification on Islamic commercial banks is positive and significant, and there is an interaction between bank size and funding diversification that affects the performance of Islamic commercial banks in the opposite direction. Keywords: Diversification; Adjusted Hirshmann-Herfindahl index; Cost-efficiency. Abstract:
Introduction: Mohsen Foroughi was one of the first-generation Iranian modernist architects who joined Iranian architecture in the 1940s. His knowledge of architecture obtained in one of the most important French architectural schools—École des Beaux-Arts—allowed him to create valuable works by combining the spirit of Iranian architecture with modern values. His interest in education led to the establishment of the foundations of architecture teaching in Iran, based on the lessons taught in Europe. Purpose of the study: The article addresses the works of Mohsen Foroughi, combining modern architecture with the vernacular Iranian architecture. His most significant works include the building of the Senate, the Department of Law at the University of Tehran, the National Bank of Tehran’s Bazaar, and the Saadi Tomb in Shiraz. The article looks at the development of intellectual flows of the time that evolved into social relationships. Methods: In the course of the study, we use descriptive analysis and analysis of library resources. Results: The main characteristics of Foroughi’s work are balance, symmetry, and application of the main elements of traditional Iranian architecture. By better understanding of his works, architects can be more successful in creating today’s architectural projects.

Abstract:
This paper presents a class of multichannel cosine-modulated filter banks (CMFB) of analysis based on the modulation effect with a fast discrete-cosine transformation of the fourth type (DCT-IV), which is calculated using the fast Fourier transform. As a prototype filter, a low-frequency filter with a finite pulse characteristic was used, frequency-shifted copies of which were made using an effective technology for polyphase representation of the filter Bank. The comparison of the number of arithmetic operations performed by digital down converter (DDC) based on cascade integral-comb (CIC) and CMFB based on different number of channels is given. A software description of the CMFB algorithm is presented in the form of block diagrams describing the capabilities of the Opencl and clfft software libraries for implementing the DCT-IV filter Bank and modulation algorithm on a GPU. The obtained algorithm was tested on an ARM family processor and a mali GPU with a table with sample rate for different number of channels with the maximum load of the graphics processor (GPU) and the minimum load of the Central processor (CPU).

Abstract:
This book explores the evolution of the 30 functioning multilateral development banks (MDBs). MDBs have their roots in the growing system of international finance and multilateral cooperation, with the first recognisable MDB being proposed by Latin America in financial cooperation with the US in the late 1930s. That Inter-American Bank did not eventuate but was a precursor to the World Bank being negotiated at Bretton Woods in 1944. Since then, a complex network of regional, sub-regional, and specialised development banks has progressively emerged across the globe, including two significant recent entrants established by China and the BRICS. MDBs arrange loans, credits, and guarantees for investment in member states, generally with the stated aim of fostering economic growth. They operate in both the Global North and South, though there are more MDBs focusing on emerging and developing states. While the World Bank and some of the larger regional banks have been scrutinised, little attention has been paid to the smaller banks or the overall system. This book provides the first study of all 30 MDBs and it evaluates their interrelationships. It analyses the emergence of the MDBs in relation to geopolitics, development paradigms and debt. It includes sections on each of the banks as well as on how MDBs have approached the key sectors of infrastructure, human development, and climate. This book will be of particular interest to researchers of development finance, global governance, and international political economy.

Abstract:
After the economic crisis, Indonesian banks began to compile the Indonesian Banking Architecture to design the Indonesian banking system. Banks mostly have a motive to increase their market share by increasing the amount of third-party funds and the amount of credit extended, thus changing the character of the banking market structure in Indonesia. This research measures the effect of performance as reflected in the level of bank profitability in relation to the market structure by assuming that these conditions are influenced by internal (Asset Liability Management) and market factors. Bank market concentration is measured by the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index. This research concludes that the Indonesian banking industry has a monopolistic market structure. The effect of bank market concentration, capital ratio, and liquidity ratio are positive and significant on bank performance. Conversely, the credit risk ratio has a negative effect on banking performance. Received: 31 August 2021 / Accepted: 11 February 2022 / Published: 5 March 2022

Now, with all the acuteness, the question has arisen about what types of money can replace cash and non-cash money that are issued by central and commercial banks. The central place in the new system may be occupied by the CBDC, or “Central Bank Digital Currency”. The People’s Bank of China, which uses the formation of an almost entirely “cashless” economy as the basis for the transition to digital currency, was the first major central bank to test-run the issue of the CBDC. That forced central banks of leading developed countries, primarily the United States, to speed up the implementation of their own digital currencies, but as of the end of 2020, they have not yet come to a final opinion on how, within the framework of the chosen architecture of the CBDC, to achieve an accurate balance of sometimes conflicting goals

Abstract:
The severity of power consumption during parallel BIST of embedded memory cores is growing significantly. In order to alleviate this problem, a row bank-based precharge technique based on the divided wordline (DWL) architecture is proposed for low-power testing of embedded SRAMs. The memory cell array is first divided into row banks. The effectiveness of the row bank-based precharge technique is due to the predictable address sequence during test. In low-power test mode, instead of precharging the entire memory array, only the current accessed row bank is precharged. This will result in significant power saving for the precharge circuitry. The precharge power can be reduced to 1/b of that of the traditional precharge techniques, where b denotes the number of row banks in the memory array. With simple transmission gates and inverters, the modified precharge control circuitry was also designed. The hardware overhead for implementing the low-power technique is almost negligible. Moreover, the corresponding BIST design to implement the low-power technique is almost the same as the conventional BIST designs. It is also notable that the inherent low-power characteristics of the DWL architecture can be preserved. According to experimental results, 48.9% power reduction can be achieved for a 256 × 256 bit-oriented SRAM. The memory is divided into 8 row banks. Moreover, if the number of row banks increases, the power saving will also increase.

Abstract:
Abstract: This study examines the factors that affect customers switching intentions after three state-owned Indonesian sharia banks merge. Study on changing behavior in retail banks, especially in Islamic banks, is still rare. Especially in the context of mergers and acquisitions, this research is essential to do. The risk of losing customers in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is very high because, during the integration phase, management often focuses on internal issues, leaving aside critical customer-related tasks. Therefore, a deeper understanding of the concept of M & A in the disciplines of marketing and consumer behavior is clearly needed to benefit academic knowledge and marketing practice. A total of one hundred and fifty respondents are selected using the quantitative method as sources of data collection. The questionnaires are distributed using a purposive sampling method in Surakarta, Indonesia. The software used for analysis is SEM-PLS. The results of this study state that inconvenience and religious motivation influence customer switching intentions. However, attitude and availability of suitable banks as a moderating variable did not influence customer switching intentions. This unsupport hypothesis is that the three Islamic banks merged are the banks under Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN). When the merger occurs, Companies must increase marketing costs to retain existing customers. Future studies can explore the perceptions of bank employees to get their views on why customers consider switching banks when a merger occurs. Keywords: Mergers; Switching Intention; Inconvenience; Attitude; Religious Motivation.

Abstract:
AbstractArt nouveau design is one of the principal markers of the identity of the French city of Nancy, which became internationally renowned as one of the most important centres for the development of this artistic style around 1900. Like other strands of the style, especially in Spain, Germany and parts of the Austro-Hungarian empire, art nouveau in eastern France has been linked to long-standing regionalist sentiments that resisted centralised Parisian control over local affairs typical in nineteenth-century France. This article examines the evolving bank architecture in central Nancy, a major facet of the introduction of art nouveau in its urban environment, to show that the construction of the city's modern character was a negotiated process that involved careful planning among financial institutions, architects and decorative artists. The design and erection of modern banks in Nancy in the first decade of the twentieth century balanced generalised architectural principles emanating from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with the employment of highly symbolic regional naturalist motifs and architectural elements. This strategy fulfilled a variety of communicative functions to appeal to a civic populace whose identity was multivalent and shifting with the era's political climate, particularly with regard to the nearby ‘lost provinces’ of Alsace-Lorraine in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian war.

Abstract:
The banking sector in India has contributed to economic growth, parity and equity while equally keeping focus on profit and social objectives. The successive prudential and regulatory reforms introduced in the banking sector have made it more robust and stronger to withstand the bubbles and external shocks. Still, the Indian banking sector in general and public-sector banks (PSBs) in particular have been suffering from the bank frauds. This study endeavors to cover the increasing incidences of banking frauds in PSBs and probes the weaknesses and chinks in the operational risk architecture at the PSBs in India. This study selects Punjab National Bank as a true representative of PSBs and treats it as a critical case study to apply the learning and findings to the PSBs in India. This qualitative analysis of the study revealed that the chinks in the operational risk control mechanism and lax corporate governance are the main reasons behind the increasing incidences of frauds at PSBs. The findings of the study showed that a strong corporate governance and compliance framework, robust risk management architecture, investment in people, technology and systems will go a long way in achieving tighter control and supervision, streamlining processes and, most of all, adhering to a culture of checks and balances.

Abstract:
In spite of rapid evolution of electronic techniques, a number of large-scale applications continue to rely on the use of paper as the dominant medium. This is especially true for processing of bank checks. This paper examines the issue of reading the numerical amount field. In the case of checks, the segmentation of unconstrained strings into individual digits is a challenging task because of connected and overlapping digits, broken digits, and digits that are physically connected to pieces of strokes from neighboring digits. The proposed architecture involves four stages: segmentation of the string into individual digits, normalization, recognition of each character using a neural network classifier, and syntactic verification. Overall, this paper highlights the importance of employing a hybrid architecture that incorporates multiple approaches to provide high recognition rates.

Abstract:
Special accelerator architecture has achieved great success in processor architecture, and it is trending in computer architecture development. However, as the memory access pattern of an accelerator is relatively complicated, the memory access performance is relatively poor, limiting the overall performance improvement of hardware accelerators. Moreover, memory controllers for hardware accelerators have been scarcely researched. We consider that a special accelerator memory controller is essential for improving the memory access performance. To this end, we propose a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) memory controller called NNAMC for neural network accelerators, which monitors the memory access stream of an accelerator and transfers it to the optimal address mapping scheme bank based on the memory access characteristics. NNAMC includes a stream access prediction unit (SAPU) that analyzes the type of data stream accessed by the accelerator via hardware, and designs the address mapping for different banks using a bank partitioning model (BPM). The image mapping method and hardware architecture were analyzed in a practical neural network accelerator. In the experiment, NNAMC achieved significantly lower access latency of the hardware accelerator than the competing address mapping schemes, increased the row buffer hit ratio by 13.68% on average (up to 26.17%), reduced the system access latency by 26.3% on average (up to 37.68%), and lowered the hardware cost. In addition, we also confirmed that NNAMC efficiently adapted to different network parameters.
