Abstract: This article reads depictions of the fille-mère as a vehicle for the expression of anxieties surrounding representation of marginal female figures and freedom of the press in the Belle Époque. It looks to two texts, exploring how these fictional unmarried mothers differ from Hugo's Fantine, the archetype of the fille-mère , earlier in the nineteenth century. After an overview of welfare support for unmarried mothers in the long nineteenth century, the author provides close and intermedial readings of a 1902 issue of L'Assiette au Beurre and Marcelle Tinayre's La Rebelle (1905), focusing on the limits of representation of these non-conforming women.

Abstract:
The women’s right to vote was recognised by the Second Polish Republic in 1918. That led to certain changes in the politics of the country. The Catholic women’s press played a major role in examining what was influencing female voters. There were two points of interest for political journalism: 1) the justification of women’s right to political equality by showing Polish women as heroines throughout the Polish history; 2) popularisation of women’s right to vote. Readers were encouraged to learn how Polish women gained voting experience. The press was particularly interested in Catholic female Members of the Polish Parliament and deputies for the Silesian Sejm. The debate itself was repeating the patterns of the patriarchal system and the archetype of the Polish Mother and the Polish-Catholic woman. Thus, they were shown as defenders of the traditional way of doing politics, assuring that after gaining the suffrage the Polish women would vote for the Catholic National political parties.

Abstract:
The article reveals a corpus of folklore and literary texts dedicated to the life and activities of the horse thief Shakur Rakhimov who was shot in 1926. His gang consisted of 100 people. In the Russian literary tradition, writers turned to this image only during the years of perestroika – largely by order of the Press Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. These are the story by E. Sukhov “Shakur-karak” (1994) and the essay by M. Belyaev and A. Sheptytsky “Robin Hood or the Progenitor of Organized Crime?”, which was written for the book “Gangster Tatarstan”. Both works were created on a documentary basis. The writers familiarized themselves with 40 volumes of the criminal case, analyzed press coverage of the events and the memories of the eyewitnesses. The fight between the smart thief and the professional investigator is depicted in F. Dostoevsky’s traditions. Tatar literature remains faithful to the folklore tradition where the image of Shakur-karak gravitates towards the pole of the Robin Hood archetype – the people’s protector. It is obvious that the Gorky romantic tradition dominates in Tatar works.

Abstract:
The representation of women artists in the Spanish graphic press in the first third of the 20th century is a field of research that has hardly been approached, which has undoubted value for its contribution to the analysis of the reception of plastic artists in the period in which women began to make their way into the art system. This work analyzes the construction and meanings behind the archetype of the female painter in the particular case of the magazine Blanco y Negro (1891-1936), which was a pioneer in the modernization of the illustrated press in Spain as well as emblematic for its covers and artistic pages, made by the most recognized artists and cartoonists of the time.

Abstract:
Abstract In 1836, American actor Thomas D. Rice first arrived in Great Britain to tour the creation that had made him famous in the USA, Jim Crow. This blackface depiction of a raggedy, runaway slave, with his infectious songs, eccentric dancing and demotic appeal soon took London by storm. The Jim Crow craze lasted for three years, with Rice finding fame, fortune and success and his imitators becoming ubiquitous in the capital's theatres and on its streets. Although the act and its character have been acknowledged as a precursor to the evolution of British minstrelsy and blackface traditions throughout the Victorian period, the craze itself has not been substantially studied in its British context. This essay will look beyond Rice's act and the performance of Jim Crow in the theatres to look instead at Jim Crow's appropriation in print satire and street performance. It will argue that these requisitions of Jim Crow illustrate how Georgian traditions of carnival and grotesque humour were redeveloped for the early Victorian context. In print, Jim Crow was widely utilized in caustic bodily humour that attacked insincere politicians. On the streets, this same humour was seen as obscene and was repressed and contained, paving the way for the respectable, mainstream Victorian blackface act. However, integral to both appropriations of Jim Crow was the figure of the black buffoon, and the act rapidly provided an archetype for the belittling and persecution of London's black population.

Abstract:
In the following article Benjamin Lloyd uses the work of the noted Swiss psychologist Alice Miller to propose a new archetype – ‘the wounded actor’, a person in the throes of a narcissistic disorder, as defined by Miller in her book The Drama of the Gifted Child. He suggests that conventional actor training will not help the wounded actor, but that the re-introduction of spirituality into the acting-class curriculum may do so. In this light he looks at Stanislavsky's writings about spirituality, focusing on the chapter in An Actor Prepares called ‘Communion’. Linking Stanislavsky's spirituality to the writings and thought of Leo Tolstoy, he explores the reasons why the spiritual nature of Stanislavsky's work has not been generally explored in the West, and suggests some ways in which acting teachers may introduce spiritual concerns into their curricula. Benjamin Lloyd teaches at Villanova University. His The Actor's Way: a Journal of Self-Discovery in Letters is due for publication later this year by Allworth Press, New York, and he is currently facilitating a workshop on possible intersections between Quaker spiritual practice and theatre-making called ‘Revival: Meetings for Theatre’.

Abstract:
Through an analysis based on the aesthetics and theoretical approaches, this research of photojournalism and archetypes raises many questions. The theoretical approach is to look at a practice first in terms of non-Art, as distinct from aesthetics as a theoretical approach to something that is primarily equated with art. The concept of archetype is studied through its various facets and thus with different approaches (psychology, philosophy, mythology, etc.). Before looking at photographs, it is important to determine how the image of photojournalist was forged through time. Revisiting the life of Robert Capa and what is said about it, the work of a mythologist, Joseph Campbell, sheds new light and makes it possible, although complex, to draw an analogy between the hero in myths and the man that is considered since 1938 as the greatest war photographer in the world. The detailed and unique analysis of the photographs awarded a prize by the World Press Photo (WPP), in the category World Press Photo of the Year, since the award was created until 2013, opens new perspectives on the evolution of photojournalism. This iconographic imagery deals primarily with natural disasters, famine, war and terrorism. The focus of the reports is continuously on people, their actions and their consequences. It is sometimes necessary go far back in history to understand the concerns of the contemporary world and the images that we perceive of it. Some winning photographs have emerged as historical time markers and shape our collective memory. A number of factors contribute to developing this collective memory. The question of archetype in these photographs also leads us to rethink the mental image and the image as an object, in order to better discern its contours and understand its challenges. Abstract:
The purpose of the research is to analyze contemporary versions of Chinese Stratagems texts and identify «instant character» of their elements that have semantically close interpretations in different cultures and civilizations, distanced from each other mentally, geographically and chronologically, that helps us to identify their archetypal nature. The research methodology is based on approaches, borrowed from James George Frazer’s works on social anthropology and Gilbert Durand’s instrument «Imaginer» that were joined within canvas of our research methodology with traditional methods of content and event comparative analysis. The scientific novelty of our article consists in an attempt to apply archetypal meta-theory and its instruments for creating concept of intellectual card game «Stratagems» that has passed probation during 2017 – 2019 in frameworks of seminars on economics, theory of international economic relations, management, psychology and applied linguistics in National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute». Conclusions. During all periods of human history, numerous issues close related with strategies of sustainable development on local, regional and global levels traditionally were dependent on evolution of spiritual-philosophic domain of mankind being. Contemporary wisdom (global intellectual capital) as balanced set of tactics (theory) and based on them behavioral patterns (praxis) we have defined as interpreted and reshaped eternal knowledge by different civilizations and cultures into variety of sources and forms like games, epic stories, sacral doctrines, legends, fables and folklore. The most interesting and controversial by nature among them are group of works on Chinese Stratagems and their application for different spheres of communication and socioeconomic interactions (policymaking, consumer’s behavior, diplomacy, constructing of quality management systems, administrative management and etc.). Today globalization, as socio-economic and geopolitical process, has faced all contemporary communities with dilemma of making right choice and appropriate strategy in frameworks of interpersonal or intercultural communication (business, bilateral talks, mediation of conflicts and etc.) and also in sphere of administrative management, international economic relations and quality assurance of decision-making process. Thus, our attention focused on mentioned above issues, has being attracted by works devoted to strategic decision-making, crisis management and philosophy of quality management.

Dzanouni, Lamia.

Abstract:
Within the framework of Histoire croisée, this thesis focuses on the impact of press drawings, in France and in the USA, on the black population’s fight to obtain rights at key moments between 1861 and 1965. Following their surrender at the end of the US Civil War, the Confederates bolstered their racist ideology with a new ideological weapon, the political cartoon, a major asset in the Union’s victory. In the XX century, th the African Americans reacted to the confederate propaganda and a war of images ensued. Simultaneously, some black artists went into exile in France in order to fight back more adequately. France provided an ideal environment for artistic expression due to hostility against them in Paris being lower than in the USA. Their success abroad thus demonstrated the responsibility and the complicity on the part of American institutions in terms of racial discrimination. That said, the French attitude was far from admirable when it came to its colonies, particularly those of black Africa. Though racism and discrimination were clearly visible within the USA, these mindsets were insinuated more perniciously within French society, the country’s newspapers contributing substantially to this pictorial emulation. A focus on the inter-crossings between these two countries reveals unique analogies in the representation of black people in the newspapers of the time, both within the segregationist system of the USA as well as within France’s colonial empire. The stereotypes developed by the racist press pervaded the collective subconscious as archetypes. The partisans of emancipation protested against this propagation through the use of their own image in different phases of their fight – between the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement in the United States; and from colonial France to the African independence movements. This analysis of the history of the press and of its illustrations seeks to shed light on the progressive convergence of American and French laws aiming at a society free from racial prejudice. It also underlines the idea that the image bears meaning, constituting a language in its own right, and that it plays a significant role in the construction and the deconstruction of racial inequality

François, Noémie. "Concha Alós , une remise en lumière nécessaire." Thesis, Pau, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PAUU1001.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis aims at placing the writer Concha Alós (1922-2011) in the limelight again and at reevaluating her production. As a writer revealed under Franco’s regime, she received an important media and cultural recognition in the 60s and 70s but suffers today from an almost general indifference. The purpose of this PhD dissertation is to provide – for the first time – a comprehensive study of Concha Alós’s personal and professional path and, in a more fine-grained way, her aesthetic work. After a careful review of a large number of documents (published or not, edited, etc.) and private archives, I retrace the trajectory of a Spanish woman writer in a country shackled by dictatorship, position her amongst her contemporaries, determine the reasons for her oblivion and analyze her productions which appear under the form of narratives, newspaper articles and scenarios. The study’s aim is to update our knowledge of a committed woman, whose caustic pen, direct style and powerful themes today deserve to be rehabilitated

Abstract:
How do individuals develop a shared understanding of organizational identity? In this chapter, we focus on the top-down part of this process, examining how individuals, on behalf of organizations, communicate “who we are.” We present a framework of how these “identity custodians” convey organizational identity by saying (i.e., telling members who we are), showing (i.e., modeling behaviors that communicate who we are), and/or staging (i.e., providing opportunities for members to enact who we are) identity content. Building on this framework, we develop a typology based on the clarity of custodians’ perceptions of organizational identity content and the extent to which these custodians intentionally communicate identity content to organizational members. We describe four archetypal scenarios within this typology to articulate when and why identity custodians engage in saying, showing, and staging, and bring our theorizing to life through anecdotes from extant literature and the popular business press.

Abstract:
This chapter introduces the idea that early advice columns were essential but overlooked precursors to today’s virtual communities. It contextualizes the genesis of advice columns in the history of media and the press, changing notions of modernity, and the gendered transformations in American culture during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Advice columns helped turn American newspapers into a media form that prioritized the reading habits of women. They gave rise to the newspaper advice columnist, a new type of female reporter who played a central role in defining the archetype of the celebrity journalist. Newspaper advice columns redefined the meaning and use of advice, as readers increasingly turned to public, anonymous, and interactive sites for help on their most intimate problems, rather than to their family members or friends.

Abstract:
Abstract Convergence has been traditionally committed to neoliberal ideals, aligned with the press’s archetypal conception as a free-market medium, hostile to state intervention and subordinate to market forces. In recent times, concern about the online circulation of content that could harm individuals and society at large, has triggered a regulatory turn. National governments have been increasingly striving to develop policies to render online platforms more accountable to the public interest. The shift from platform self-regulation to nation-state and supranational regulation has created a new paradigm also for the field of online news media, posing a risk that the totality of the electronic news media might be seen as vectors of the same harms that beset the internet at large. Convergence is not an inevitable process engendered by technological forces, but is conditioned by socioeconomic and political imperatives. The search for a regulatory model for the online press is influenced as much by analogies from the past as by the newly prevalent culture of control. The debate between press freedom and regulation is polarized and entrenched. The desideratum is the development of collision norms that are conducive to the creation of a democratic online environment.

Abstract:
The article gives a description of the humanitarian and cultural aspects of the mediation of the Slavic committees and societies between Russia and the Balkans, mainly in 1875–1876. Using examples from the chronicle of charity in the Voronezh province, the interaction between the Slavic Committees and the Society for the Care of the Wounded and Sick Soldiers (Russian Red Cross) is revealed, in the context of the activities of broad sections of Russian society, inspired not only by information coming from the Slavic committees and from the press, but by symbolic images of people's self-consciousness, containing an archetypal picture of the Orthodox East.

Abstract:
The purpose of thіs artіcle іs to cover the cultural and іnformatіon space of the western Ukraіnіan lands durіng the Nazі occupatіon: accordіng to the Ukraіnіan-language collaboratіng press іn the context of exіstentіal projectіons on the modern war іn Ukraіne wіth Russіa’s occupatіon of some Ukraіnіan terrіtorіes. The methodologіcal basіs of our study іs the groupіng and іnductіve-deductіve analysіs of the then medіa (іncludіng the press) by place of publіcatіon and genre-thematіc focus (perіodіcals for women, chіldren’s magazіnes, busіness newspapers and magazіnes), the separatіon of іnformatіon-analytіcal neutral and the propaganda paradіgm wіth pro-Ukraіnіan and pro-German, antі-Bolshevіk socіo-polіtіcal vectors: dіstіnguіshіng between “Ukraіnіan-language” and “Ukraіnіan-language” journalіsm, whіch іn the mass medіa turn the press іnto a metatext whose modalіty can be useful and constructіve. (state-buіldіng) and negatіve (destructіve) patterns of functіonіng of the medіa іn the enemy-occupіed terrіtory, when іt іs necessary to fіght on several fronts at the same tіme. Among the research methods used іn the artіcle: comparatіve, phenomenologіcal, psychoanalytіc (probіng archetypes), hermeneutіc, deconstructіvіst, socіo-psychologіcal. The study showed and confіrmed that one of the best іllustratіons of German polіcy іn Ukraіne durіng World War ІІ was the attіtude of the occupіer to relіgіon, Ukraіnіan women, chіldren, and other occupіers, іncludіng the Bolshevіks, as reflected іn the eponymous Ukraіnіan magazіnes (“Ukraіnіan chіld”, “Farmer”, etc.) and, of course, іn theіr content and even formal desіgn, as stated іn the text of the artіcle The obtaіned results allowed us to formulate the followіng conclusіons. An analysіs of the Ukraіnіan-language (collaboratіng) press publіshed іn the western part of Ukraіne іn 1941-1944 convіncіngly proves that only an іndependent, sovereіgn state can claіm authentіcally, deeply іts own, іdentіcal mass medіa. And controlled, because the medіa fіnanced by the occupatіon authorіtіes, although publіshed іn Ukraіnіan, were Ukraіnіan-speakіng іn letter, but German-speakіng іn spіrіt, іe not Ukraіnіan-speakіng, although well-known Ukraіnіan artіsts took part іn the creatіon of these propagandіstіc sources of іnformatіon. sіgnіfіcant names and archetypes of Ukraіnіan culture were engaged at that tіme. Key words: collaboratіng press, propaganda, іdentіty, mass medіa, cultural and іnformatіon space.

Abstract:
The article deals with the mental-existential relationship between ethnoculture, national identity and media culture as a necessary factor for their preservation, transformation, on the example of national original algorithms, matrix models, taking into account global tendencies and Ukrainian archetypal-specific features in Ukraine. the media actively serve the domestic oligarchs in their information-virtual and real wars among themselves and the same expansive alien humanitarian acts by curtailing ethno-cultural programs-projects on national radio, on television, in the press, or offering the recipient instead of a pop pointer, without even communicating to the audience the information stipulated in the media laws − information support-protection-development of ethno-culture national product in the domestic and foreign/diaspora mass media, the support of ethnoculture by NGOs and the state institutions themselves. In the context of the study of the cultural national socio-humanitarian space, the article diagnoses and predicts the model of creating and preserving in it the dynamic equilibrium of the ethno-cultural space, in which the nation must remember the struggle for access to information and its primary sources both as an individual and the state as a whole, culture the transfer of information, which in the process of globalization is becoming a paramount commodity, an egregore, and in the post-traumatic, interrupted-compensatory cultural-information space close rehabilitation mechanisms for national identity to become a real factor in strengthening the state − and vice versa in the context of adequate laws («Law about press and other mass media», Law «About printed media (press) in Ukraine», Law «About Information», «Law about Languages», etc.) and their actual effect in creating motivational mechanisms for preserving/protecting the Ukrainian language, as one of the main identifiers of national identity, information support for its expansion as labels cultural and geostrategic areas.
