Full textThe present study focused on responses of purchasing and supply chain professionals faced with certain ethical situations. Individual (personal demographics, religiosity, ethical ideologies), psychological (moral potency), issue contingent (moral intensity), and organizational (firm size, activity, code of ethics) variables are hypothesized to the four stages of ethical decision making (EDM) including perceived importance of ethical issue, recognition, judgment, and intention in a purchasing context. The current study majorly employed a quantitative experimental research design. Firstly, six purchasing scenarios representing six dimensions of moral intensity were constructed and validated through detailed discussions with purchasing experts. Moral intensity dimensions were manipulated through scenarios. Responses were collected from 364 purchasing professionals for all six scenarios by conducting a survey. Firstly, all categorical variables and manipulations were examined through ANOVA. Then overall model was then tested in a multivariate space by using SEM path analysis for all six scenarios. The variance analysis revealed significant findings for moral intensity, religiosity, ethical ideologies, and moral potency and are heterogeneous across personal and organizational demographics. Moreover, the SEM analysis largely confirmed that moral intensity and moral potency are the key antecedents to EDM stages either independently or in the nomological serially mediated framework of EDM (perceived importance, recognition, judgment, and intention). Finally, the present research concluded with future directions for researchers and implications for managers as well

It is necessary to take into account the hierarchical interrelation of these three types of decisions for the organization of the firm. Study of the general politico-strategic system. Its application results in the elaboration of an industrial purchase theory. Study of buying policies. Development within the bilateral oligopoly of seven main purchasing strategies which depend on the general strategy and policy of the firm. They may be divided into two groups depending whether the supplier or the competitor is the opposent. In particular, the increase of the competition favors the partner relationship between buyer and vendor. Analysis of purchasing tactics or purchasing-mix and presentation of the resulting techniques. If interrelations of politics, strategies and tactics are too weak, there is a risk of uncoordinated decisions which hamper the objectives of the firm

Full textThis thesis is a problematical for ethics. Whilst wanting to determine the concept of corporate social responsibility, we linked the fields of sociology, linguistics, philosophy, and communications with the fields of applications-namely, a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods, with the aim of validating the following postulation: that the new citizenship is based on the abandonment of a mythical communication leading to an ethical communication which calls for a change in its relationship to responsibility, development and science. Our quantitative investigation proposes, with a selection of companies in Aquitaine, to account for their design of ethics through their practical application of concepts such as that of sustainable development or fair trade. A qualitative body of press articles supplements our analysis. In a society which defines performance as a central value, does the pragmatic framework of values which aims at replacing the constraint, fulfil the same function? Does "Ethics" per se not become a new categorical imperative with political and economic views, bringing a new response to risk and creates a sense of progress in a company which considers, for the time being, that the only possible attitude of precaution will guarantee it? Up to what point could freedom of expression versus freedom of reception see the emergence of a new form of responsibility from the new rules of rhetoric? We conclude that this ethical communication is now assimilated to an exercise of argumentative style where the consensus becomes an ideal of communication -even a myth

Full textEvery production system has a procedure for deciding when to have material delivered or produced. These decisions are referred to as lot-sizing decisions. Performance of lot-sizing techniques is generally evaluated on the basis of cost effectiveness and computational time. Nevertheless, this static evaluation ignores the manner in which decisions are implemented in practice, when demands vary. By considering demand variability, lot-sizing techniques do not exhibit the same degree of instability in planned orders. Therefore, we propose another measure of performance we call robustness. We define the robustness of a lot-sizing model as the degree of stability in planned orders it provides, in response to changes in demand estimates. We first study the robustness and cost-effectiveness of models in both single-level and multi-level contexts. Simulations show there exists an inverse relationship between robustness and optimality. Second, we improve an optimal multi-level lot-sizing model (steinberg, napier-management science, 1980), in term of computational time. We write an analytical procedure for eliminating the variables which optimal value is always null. Simulations suggest the effectiveness of that procedure: reduction of the size of the optimization programm implies a reduction in computational time

Full textThroughout the 1980ies, reflexives studies on ethics have widely increased in the global corporate world. The growing wealth of publications, the mutiplying of lectures and symposia devoted to this theme on the managerial scene are currently underlying the relevancy of this topical issue. Nevertheless, although the principal of an ethical approach is increasingly accepted in business life and even taken for granted, what does it include ? how is it exercised ? the purpose of this discertation is to make the issue clear by giving an accurate answer to these two questions. On the theoretical point of view the various traditional and contemporary arguments providing principals to management shall be therefore here presented. On the practical side, the intents and concerns as managerial policy shall be then analysed. Forty five such managers have been accordingly screened during specific research canvassing. As a result, four single ethical profiles and two types of organizational ethical climates have been defined. Hence, the goals of the presented research still fairly new in france have been made : relevant answering data facts and notions, were allowed to be propounded

Full textThe pursuit of ethics as an objective obliges management to seek meansof improving it while, in articulating this process with the general objectives of the firm, including those ethics oriented to draw benefits. Our research reveals the difficulty, usually downplayed, to anticipate the influence of ethics on the players. It stresses that the explicit contradictions that characterize the different theoretical approaches of this field aren't expressed by processes clearly dissimilar. The first part of the study proposes a theoretical frame. In the literature, ethics is understood as an intermediate objective that determines economic success, and gives relevance to the managerial processes it implies. In an other antagonistic paradigm the ethics of the firm is necessarily a finality. Improving ethics means reducing the array of actions that can be accepted. Ethics is independent of economic success. The assumption that different strategies of firms lay on these two bases of logic constitutes the foundation of our field work. In this, we attempt to verify that these approaches are in power. The second part, empirical in nature, comprises two case studies. In the former, a company is studied as it is in the process of implementing a code of ethics following the acquisition of a competitor. Ethics is never wanted for itself but only for his alleged effects on the compatibility between actions of the members of the firm and, therefore, economical success. The latter consisted of an organization in the specific period wherein an ethical dilemma was identified. It appears that ethics drives actors to compose responses in situ and that the risk is the reduction of control that organizations exert on their members

Full textMorals refer to what relates to habits, human beings’ attitudes, as well as codes of conduct and their justifications. For some years now, companies have been publicly asserting their commitment to moral values, in order to improve their image. Some of them attempt to impose them upon their employees, sometimes subject to penalties. The question is whether employees, bound to perform the contract of employment in good faith, according to the provisions of Articles 1134 of the Civil Code and L. 1222-1 of the Labour Code, are obliged to adhere to the moral values of the company which employs them? On the one hand, some commercially oriented companies issue codes of ethics, along with whistle blowing policies, for which the question of their legality is raised. Companies of an ideological nature also ask their employees to abide by moral standards which the former aim to defend. On the other hand, labour law also requires that employers and their employees comply with moral obligations. Some of them relate specifically to each of the co-contractors. Thus, employers have the obligation to respect the dignity, as well as the fundamental rights and freedoms of employees, in particular in their personal life. The latter must avoid, in principle, engaging in behaviour which is contrary to commonly accepted morals in our society, and creating characterised disorder within the company. Employers and employees also have joint obligations with moral connotations, such as obligations relating to loyalty or security
