Full textThe main subject of the thesis is to analyse the contribution of the concept of competence to explain the relation between size of the firm and innovation. We analyse the major books of j. A. Schumpeter to put in light that these interpretations of neo-schumpeterians are subject to critics. Taking in account the conceptual coherence between books of schumpeter, we show that the model of "schumpeter i" prevailing. After a review of the theoretical and empirical approaches, a conceptual approach is proposed to elaborate a theory of the firm based on the concept of competence. This perspective is prevalent to explain the variety of innovative behaviour of the firm. Two models are developed. Firstly, we develop a model of innovative behaviour of a firm in function of his repertory of competencies in a dynamical, non-stochastic context. Secondly, we demonstrate mathematically the theory of organisational knowledge creation of nonaka's model [1994]. We propose also to analyse ours results in empirical terms. We show that the model of 'schumpeter i' is refuted and globally big enterprise are more competent to innovate

Full textThe study is concerned with the causes and the process of evolution in firms (i. E. Why the firm changes in the way it does and how the firm change over time). It attempts to fill a gap in the current management litterature by using an historical and multidimensional approach and giving a central position to the role played by the human actors and the strategic choices. The research is based on a multidisciplinary exploration of the theoretical field and a comprehensive and in depth analysis of the history of six firms. The outcome of the study is the identification of a pattern of evolution which shows the reciprocal causation among historical factors, aleatory factors and strategic choices. The pattern shows also that a firm goes through a sequence of stages consisting of periods of relative stability (incremental modifications) interrupted by periods of discontinuous shifts (radical modifications). The discontinuous shifts occur when a perturbation reaches an intensity that requires the modification of managerial interpretive schemes and managerial goals. The role played by the top managemers is then crucial. The consequences of this pattern for strategic management are analyzed

Full textBacksourcing is not a mainstream research field because it is closely linked with vertical integration and outsourcing. Indeed it means putting an end to outsourcing contracts and returning to vertical integration. Studying backsourcing is worth of interest because it allows adopting a process approach of the classical make-or-buy dilemma. The objectives of the thesis are to study the reasons for deciding backsourcing and the processes followed by firms to implement backsourcing. Several theoretical approaches were used for that. Backsourcing can be viewed as a strategic withdrawal decision or as a strategic change process that brings flexibility to the firm. This process must also be able to deal with organizational inertia. In order to answer to our research questions, we have conceived a conceptual backsourcing process model. We have carried out two longitudinal and retrospective case studies on IT activity backsourcing. Results indicate the role of internal crises for backsourcing initialization and the impact of the first backsourcing decision on the following operations. The backsourcing process development is influenced by different strategic, organizational and people factors. The thesis results underline the fact that backsourcing and outsourcing are intertwined and that backsourcing development relies on learning processes

Full textFor nearly two decades, the firm has changed, especially with the growing importance of human capital and the movement of vertical disintegration. These evolutions raise questions about the link between the boundaries, the governance and the performance of the firm. The aim of this dissertation is to study the key elements, both theoretical and empirical, that involve a renewal of corporate governance in this changing context. First, we examine how the issue of the internal firm governance is based on the theories of the firm. Second, we advance that an alternative vision, beyond the traditional opposition between the shareholder value and the stakeholder value approaches, has to be elaborated. We develop a model of firm governance, that we call the ‘multi-resources’ model. The latter allows motivating fundamental partners to regulate the power they have on the critical resources of the firm. Third, using a typological analysis and logical expressions, we exploit the French 2004-2005 REPONSE survey to verify the hypothesis that this new model of firm governance is built on the complementary use of vertical incentives, horizontal work practices and decentralized modalities of decision-making. Finally, we test econometrically the determinants of the multi-resources model and estimate the factors that improve performance of specific human capital-intensive firms

Full textThe increasing number of alliances suggests a questioning about the logic laying behind alliance strategies, and of the way to conduct such strategies. Building on theories of the firm's limits, we tried in this research to give answers by developing a systemic analysis of these strategies. These appear to be a means for firms to act in a context of complexity by embedding in networks in order to sustain their innovation policies. Hence, networks' structure seems to be influencing the advantages of alliance strategies. The study of leading firms in the software sector confirms this thesis, and suggests some structural guidelines for alliance strategies' formulation

Full textThis research has aimed at analysing the modes of cooperation between firms, with a special focus on the relationships between suppliers and car makers. We have looked at the new forms of cooperation that have emerged following the transfer of component design and development to suppliers, in the context of a changing division of labor between firms and new forms of organization and patterns of competition in the car industry. The main result of this research is the following : associating suppliers closely and comprehensively to the r&d process means increased economic risks at stake for the car industry as a whole. Codevelopment processes require carefully designed models of governance structure that include contractual committments, bilateral guarantees, interactive problem-solving methods, formal rules of risk and cost sharing as well as the sharing of innovation benefits that have been collectively produced. Therefore, economic efficiency appears to be largely dependent upon the relational mode between firms and their technical and organizational learning capabilities

Full textThe ever-increasing number of Android malware is accompanied by a deep concern about security issues in the mobile ecosystem. Unquestionably, Android malware detection has received much attention in the research community and therefore it becomes a crucial aspect of software security. Actually, malware proliferation goes hand in hand with the sophistication and complexity of malware. To illustrate, more elaborated malware like polymorphic and metamorphic malware, make use of code obfuscation techniques to build new variants that preserve the semantics of the original code but modify it’s syntax and thus escape the usual detection methods. In the present work, we propose a model-checking based approach that combines static analysis and machine learning. Mainly, from a given Android application we extract an abstract model expressed in terms of LNT, a process algebra language. Afterwards, security related Android behaviours specified by temporal logic formulas are checked against this model, the satisfaction of a specific formula is considered as a feature, finally machine learning algorithms are used to classify the application as malicious or not.

Full textThis thesis, written while working under a CIFRE contract, studies the construction, the implementation and the effects of the gender equality policy at Orange. Using the appropriative perspective of management tools enriched by the concept of institutional logics, this work is based on various data, in particular: interviews, HR data, observations, internal documents. We show that the coexistence of various conceptions of gender equality within the company strongly affects the implementation of the gender equality policy within the entities, but also its construction, for both the collective bargaining agreement and the non-negotiated policy. The joint analysis of the implementation and of the effects of the policy, made possible by a mixed-method design, allows us to understand the quantifiable effects (or the absence of quantifiable effects) of a measure according to the way it is implemented within the entities. We underline the specificities of the collective bargaining about gender equality, notably due to the fact that gender equality cuts across various HR processes. Finally, we show the importance of the coexistence and articulation of the collective bargaining agreement and non-negotiated gender equality policy

Full textIn fire-prone environments, plants have developed a huge diversity of life history strategies that aresupposed to be adapted to different environmental conditions such as several fire regimes. My PhDproject aimed at explaining the large diversity of life history strategies of perennial plants, focusingon how intrinsic and extrinsic factors have shaped the evolution of those traits. I particularly ask, ifsuch knowledge can be used to understand the impact of future environmental changes onbiological diversity ? And finally, how does this apply to conservation policies and the maintenanceof such diversity? Because contrasted fire regimes have been suggested as a major selective factorinfluencing plant traits in fire-prone environments, I especially investigated the effect of the fireregime in terms of distribution probabilities of fire intervals. A model of optimization of resourceallocation for a serotinous non-resprouting plant predict that whenever maximal plant survivalprobability is low, the optimal strategy consists in reducing resource allocation to seed maintenancein the canopy, while increasing resource allocation to annual seed production. The model alsopredict that a low level of serotiny should evolve when the predictability of fire arrival is low, that iswhen there is a large variance in fire intervals. In order to test those predictions, I used comparativeanalyses along the newly reconstructed phylogeny of the Leucadendron genus. A bioinformaticspipeline allowed designing new nuclear markers, maximizing both polymorphism and probability oforthology that can be further used to construct the Leucadendron phylogeny. This approachgenerated seven new markers of which three contained a polymorphic 3'-UTR region. Life historytrait are further estimated along branches of this new phylogeny to assess whether life history traitswere labile across the evolutionary history of the genus. This analysis show that all five studiedtraits emerged independently several times and in correlation with one another. The joint evolutionof fire-related traits and ecological niches are finally studied to test hypotheses partly inspired byour theoretical work. Comparative analyses that account for phylogenetic uncertainty, traitreconstruction uncertainty and environmental intra-specific variability show that serotinous speciesevolved ecological niches characterised by less extreme climatic events than species havingunderground seed banks. Similarly, non-resprouting species evolved niches including less extremeclimatic events than resprouting species

Full textThis dissertation aims at studying the representation of the firm in economics. Our approach is focused on coordination processes. Our goal is to elaborate a conception of the firm (other than orthodox). This conception holds the firms as a system composed of various interrelated elements. The firm is a collective unit whereas it cannot be understood without taking individuals into account. This interaction between the individual level and the collective level underlines that the firm is an organisation which produces institutions. Part 1 consists in a theoretical elaboration. Chapter 1 compounds critical analyses of orthodox approaches of the firm (mainly the neo-classical and neo-institutional theories). Chapter 2 deals with the methodological bases of our conception of the firm. The concepts of institution and organisation are defined and discussed. The core of our theoretical assumptions consists in representing coordination in the firm by three interrelated dimensions (chapters 3, 4 & 5): (1) the coordination in the production process (based on the evolutionist term of competence); (2) the coordination between employer end employee (based on the marxian notion of conflict); (3) the coordination between firms (inspired by the works of richardson and aoki) part 2 consists in applying this model to coordination in the soviet and russian firm. Applicability to the soviet system is discussed in chapter 6. The following analysis shows a combination between both hierarchical and horizontal coordination within firms to be responsible for major harmful effects (chapter 7). Chapter 8 examines evidences for changes in the three dimensions of coordination in russia, based on results of a field survey involving 142 industrial firms. This was developed by the author in collaboration with the french institute of statistics (insee) in 1996

Full textIn this work, we develop the idea that there is no room for an endogenous explanation of the emergence of the firm in neoclassical economics (this is what we call the market theory problem). Even transaction costs economics, which is certainly the best explanation currently available, is kept within the walls of the neoclassical approach and overlooks completely the issues of process and entrepreneurial competition. In response to that state of affairs, we developed an alternative in which the rationale of the firm is structural uncertainty and what we call "type ii entrepreneurship. " in this approach, the firm is seen as a locus of exploitation of an entrepreneurial profit discovery and as a solution to a hayekian knowledge problem (i. E. It allows for a greater coordination of individuals' plans in the marketplace). Furthermore, we address the issue of the growth of the firm and we argue that current capabilities theories are not sufficient to explain the growth and progress of the firm in a living economy. We contend that entrepreneurship is the source of changes in capabilities (and not idle capacities) and that the central management, when trying to discover and exploit new profit opportunities (in the case of multi-product growth), will generally be confronted to inner-knowledge problems that are similar to those encountered by planners in a socialist economy. One of the ways the management can solve these problems and channel entrepreneurship in the organization is by setting up a multidivisional structure

Full textRationalization of the enterprises of the productive system is a process inherent to a capitalist economy. Thus firms are constantly changing. However, in relation with the irregularity of economic performances, changes at the enterprises' level are caracterized by significant discontinuities. Beyond these discontinuities, in a given spatio-temporal context, it is possible to discern the existence of an enterprise, endowed with a certain stability, and whom configuration is supposed able to answer to the economic challenges of the time being : this is then the representative firm of the productive system. To this firm can be associated a definite representation of the firm. This representation finds an echo in the economic theory of the firm. On this basis, our work, focussed on the productive organizations' dynamics in the twentieth century, develops the idea that a change of the representative firm, corresponding to an epistemological rupture, has occured in the eighties. This rupture is mirrored in the process who, from the "taylorienne-fordienne" firm's crisis and the difficulties of the "automatized-flexible" firm, has led to the spring of "ohnienne" then "interactive" firms as representative firms of the productive system

FAPESPA - Fundação Amazônia de Amparo a Estudos e Pesquisas
Esta pesquisa aborda as temáticas de comunicação, cidadania e periferia, entendidas como conceitos fundamentais para melhor compreensão das práticas comunicativas do Coletivo Tela Firme, objeto de estudo desta investigação. O grupo atua na periferia, especificamente no bairro Terra Firme, em Belém, estado do Pará. O trabalho dos jovens consiste na produção audiovisual que circula na internet e também em ações de cidadania diretamente em bairros periféricos da cidade. Esse trabalho está assentado na matriz da comunicação popular, alternativa, comunitária, por atuar de dentro da periferia, para a periferia, na conscientização e na transformação social. O resultado tem sido uma referência no campo político e educacional em Belém. Dessa forma, esta pesquisa se propõe a investigar como se configuram as práticas comunicativas do Coletivo Tela Firme na periferia da capital paraense. A hipótese levantada na investigação é a de que o ativismo do grupo nas comunidades onde atua, tem como propósito estimular e promover o engajamento político-social das pessoas que vivem nesses espaços, de forma a contribuir com a ampliação de seus direitos de cidadania. Diante do exposto, propõe-se no presente estudo a realização de um mapeamento e análise dos vídeos alternativos e das ações realizadas em bairros periféricos da capital, por iniciativa própria ou em parceria com outros movimentos e organizações engajados em lutas políticas e sociais. Os referenciais teóricos que sustentam a presente investigação são Peruzzo (2009), Gohn (2010), Gonczevski e Martin (2011), Pinsky e Pinsky (2013), Mouffe (2013). O trabalho do grupo se iniciou nas redes digitais que, na concepção de autores como Castells (2005), Lemos (2006) e Primo (2013), trata-se de uma plataforma que favorece processos de participação política, social e contribui para a articulação com outros movimentos de resistência. Sendo assim, esta dissertação utiliza-se de pesquisa bibliográfica, além da qualitativo-descritiva, com base na análise de conteúdo e a entrevista para atingir os objetivos, que entre outras pretensões, está a de identificar nas práticas comunicativas do Tela Firme alternativas de cidadania na periferia.
This research departs from the themes and concepts of communication, citizenship and periphery, understood as fundamental for a better understanding Coletivo Tela Firme‟s communicative pratices, which is our studied object. The group works in the urban periphery, specifically in Terra Firme neighborhood, in Belém, Pará state. Their work consists of audiovisual production that circulates on the internet as well as citizenship actions directly in the outskirts of the city. Such work is based on the logic of popular, alternative, community communication, since it is carried out in and for the peripheral neighborhoods and communities from Belém, aiming at social awareness and social change. The group‟s work has become a reference in the city‟s political and educational fields. Thus, this research goal is to inquiry the configuration of Coletivo Tela Firme‟s communicative practices in the outskirts of the capital of Pará. The hypothesis raised in the investigation is that the group‟s activism in the communities where it operates in is intended to stimulate and promote political and social engagement among those who live there, mainly to contribute to their citizenship rights enhancement. Hence, it is proposed in this study a process of mapping and analyzing their videos and the actions they have done in Belém peripheral neighborhoods, either on their own or in partnership with other movements and organizations engaged with political and social struggles. The theoretical standpoints that support our research are based on Peruzzo (2009), Gohn (2010), Gonczevski and Martin (2011), Pinsky and Pinsky (2013), Mouffe (2013). Coletivo Tela Firme‟s work began in social media which, according to Castells (2005), Lemos (2006) and Primo (2013), are platforms that favor political and social participation processes, as much as they contribute to the articulation with other resistance movements. To carry out this study, the master's thesis approach is based on bibliographical and qualitative-descriptive research, mainly informed by content analysis, as well as interviewing, to reach its objectives, among which identifying citizenship alternatives in and for the urban periphery through Coletivo Tela Firme‟s communicative practices.

Full textIndustrial structures and productive activities are characterized by an increased movement of vertical desintegration. The boundaries and the nature of the firm are affected by outsourcing strategies and interfirm relationships. In a first part, the aim is to question the contractual conception and the chandlerian conception of vertical disintegration. We advance that vertical disintegration cannot be defined as the symmetry of integration, as framed by the opposition between Market versus Hierarchy. We argue that a better understanding of vertical distegration involves a better understanding of specialization and tasks division. In a second part, the aim is to build a framework of governance choices based on productive interdependance, rather than on contractual issues. An empirical study of an interfirm relationship's database productive issues and integration degree. In line with this result, we propose an innovative conception of the “make or buy” choice. Input transaction and the underlying institutional governance have to deal with products complementarity, contractual interdependance, industrial equilibrium and the choices portfolio of the firm. Therefore, “make” or “buy” is partly constrained and depends on other choices, inside the firm and between firms

The intermediary's monitoring reduces the moral hazard problem and the adverse selection problem faced by agents who lend directly. Because of the information asymetries between "outsiders" and "insiders", the lenders need to be given full details of the futu re prospects of the from. The solution is to delegate the task of monitoring to an intermediary. A comparaison of institutional arrangements shows that the choice between private debt and public dbt is not indifferent to the properties of the financial systems. Our empirical study shows that the french firms prefer, under some conditions, the bank debt to the direct debt

Thus the mastering of Knowledge technology and of knowledge and innovation management are becoming key factors for the enhancement of the enterprises’ competitivity at national and international level. This study describes the scientific context of innovation. Indeed the enterprise is a complex social organism who should be able to innovate and to take decisions in a uncertain context. This study is confronting the growing importance of the “intangible economy” which is based on knowledge and know-how (implicit knowledge). It shows the growing importance of this new economy facilitated by the fast development of the ITC (information and comunication technologies). Hence the importance of the learning processes. And finally also the importance for the economists to shape new concepts in order to cope with this fast and huge economic innovation. The originality of this thesis is to capitalize also on the « Site Theory » and so to establish a link with the local knowledge production. This step is very necessary in order to study the important role of the local actors in the “situated innovation”. It shows that the “symbolic sites” have a crucial symbolic role in the local creation of knowledge. In this scientific context, the study shows also the necessity to change drastically the management style in order to enhance creativity and to open enterprises to change and uncertainty. This change will have to produce new ideas and practices in order to transform the companies into knowledge companies, and make them successful

It results from several years of deregulation in europe a necessity to present new challenges from the angle of french free-television industry. This latter constitutes an original model which supposes to pass beyond the traditional opposition beetwen commercial channels and public ones. It is preferable to distinguish free-television (or mass-television) and pay-television. Thus, the nature of the financement, indirect in the free-tv case, is fundamental. More precisely, in france, we can talk about an unperfect mixed system because public and private channels are directly in competition for the same nature of resources -advertising- for a very significant part. And we can also talk about discriminating regulation because the regulation is unequal. In addition, the constraints of regulation are globally heavy in comparaison with the most part of the others countries. Finally, the french free-tv case is a peculiar one and the programming economics becomes more complicated. Each tv-firm develops its own specific program pattern. We prefer to talk about 'competitive' programming to illustrate the tension beetwen channels

Full textThe aim of the thesis is to show what are the means and strategic and organizational processes the firms of the sectors highly intense in new IT and innovation use to cope with to asset specificity and to the dynamics of the globalisation of the economy. The New Institutional Economics (NIE) leads our work thanks to the conception of the firm used which is based essentially on a contractualist approach which uses the works of the transaction cost economics and of theory of the incomplete contracts; however other approaches of the firms are evocated in order to enrich the academical view of our thesis. Moreover, the notion of strategic alliance is very important for our work, and it allows us to operate an articulation between the concepts of Organization and the Market for put in the light some firm’s dynamics in a market economy. Furthermore, the thesis concerns the strategic alliances under two other following perspectives: the first one is the multinationalization of the innovative firms, and the second one concerns the organizational response that establish the strategic alliances to cope with the specificities of the innovative sectors. The game theory and the concept of Nash equilibrium can help us to model ou describe the dynamic of the firms belonging the sector of telecommunications. The dynamic of other innovative sectors is studied through the notion of strategic alliance. The influence of the decisions and the public policies concerning the telecommunication regulation and the impulse of the innovation is evocated too. The influence of public policies can be seen particularly concerning the competition when the public regulator allows in the innovative sectors the competing firms to cooperate in upstream (for example research and development joined). Some research and developments models are presented in the thesis. It is important to note that the thesis has empirical data highlighting the weight of the sectors highly intense in research and development and so showing the weight of the innovation in the economy. The geographical field covers by these data is international The thesis thanks to the notion of strategic alliance enables to retail the organizational processes and the behavioral strategies (models of game) strengthening the innovation, enabling to cope with to a strong asset specificity and explaining the firms’ responses in a globalized economy. We finish in providing the organizational forms the most adapted for cope with to the strong specificity of the sector of telecommunications. There are the firm (post-merger) and the relational joint venture concerning this latter we demonstrate that the presence of relational contracts enables to reduce the will to renege and is a protection against the contractual opportunism
