Abstract:
General equilibrium analysis is a theoretical structure which focuses research in economics. On this point economists and philosophers agree. Yet studies in general equilibrium analyses are not well understood in the sense that, though their importance is recognized, their role in the growth of economic knowledge is a subject of some controversy. Several questions organize an appraisal of general equilibrium analysis. These questions have been variously posed by philosophers of science, economic methodologists, and historians of economic thought. Is general equilibrium analysis a theory, a paradigm, a scientific research program, or a set of interrelated theories? Is it not any of these but rather a branch of applied mathematics? Is GE analysis associated with the growth of knowledge, or does it waste intellectual resources? How is it related to other work in economics? Is it connected to, or is it apart from, the concerns of applied economists?

Abstract:
This article is concerned with the debate around the economic knowledge evolution and the role of ethics in economy. It reports on the 2008 crisis, the research literature reveals two main problems: the efficiency of the economic modeling and the failure of the ethical system. The authors explore the use of the new Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium “DSGE” model in the case of Islamic economy, it can enable to develop a new approach, taking into account the criticism of the models used before the crisis, and giving more importance to the ethical principles. The question is to know if the principles of Islamic economy feed into a sustainable economic system. The characteristic of this model lies in the consideration of Islamic principles, namely the abolition of interest rates and their replacement by the rate of return of the capital. In this perspective, it is supposed that the intervention of the monetary authorities is done by an unconventional approach. The model also distinguishes itself by the integration of Zakat. The model is applied in the case of Morocco. The results of simulations show that the introduction of these Islamic principles has no negative effects on the macroeconomic and financial conditions of Morocco and that the stability of the economic system is maintained.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, the effects of social assistance reform proposals are discussed for the case of Germany using a computable general equilibrium model that incorporates a discrete choice model of labour supply. This allows us to identify general equilibrium effects of the reforms on wages and unemployment. The simulation results show that general equilibrium wage reactions mitigate labour supply effects and that unemployment in fact decreases. Wage reactions are thus sufficiently strong to prevent additional labour supply from translating into higher unemployment. The simulations indicate that major cuts in welfare payments are necessary to produce substantial employment effects.

Abstract:
Does brownfield redevelopment warrant government support? We explore several external benefits in an urban general equilibrium framework. Preferences are modelled such that demand for housing units in the city is downward sloping, which yields a more general setup than the extreme open and closed city cases. We shed light on the relative importance of general equilibrium effects of nonmarginal redevelopment projects and we isolate the external benefits of the removal of a local nuisance, the exploitation of agglomeration economies and the preservation of open space at the urban fringe. A numerical application indicates that local nuisance and agglomeration effects may push social returns significantly beyond the value of redeveloped land that accrues to its owner. However, depending on the price elasticity of urban housing demand and the strength of agglomeration economies, the amount of preserved greenfield land may be small and it only generates additional benefits to the extent that direct land use policies fail to internalize its value as open space.
