In order to be used, distributed multimedia applications have to respect temporal constraints. This is particularly difficult on current networks because of the volume of data which they manipulate. Moreover, the importance of user perception of a provided service is one of the multimedia applications more important features. Their performance is then dependent on variations of the run-time context, which are not predictable. Thus, we would like to guarantee the user of a distributed multimedia application to benefit from an optimum quality of service in a given context, using a dynamic adaptation of the application to its run-time context (hardware, software, network and external environment). In this PhD thesis, we define a design method for the application and a support for its execution using a distributed middleware, which adds or removes components, reconfigures and restructures the set of components that compose the application. In order to do that, we propose an application and a quality of service model and an associated distributed evaluation model. Then we define an heuristics adapted to multimedia constraints in order to find the best configuration whereas this problem is NP-complete. Finally we describe the simulator that validates our works

Bai, Chenyu. "Hodge Theory, Algebraic Cycles of Hyper-Kähler Manifolds." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Sorbonne université, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024SORUS081.
This thesis is devoted to the study of algebraic cycles in projective hyper-Kähler manifolds and strict Calabi-Yau manifolds. It contributes to the understanding of Beauville's and Voisin's conjectures on the Chow rings of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds and strict Calabi-Yau manifolds. It also studies some birational invariants of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds. The first part of the thesis, appeared in Mathematische Zeitschrift [C. Bai, On Abel-Jacobi maps of Lagrangian families, Math. Z. 304, 34 (2023)] and presented in Chapter 2, studies whether the Lagrangian subvarieties in a hyper-Kähler manifold sharing the same cohomological class have the same Chow class as well. We study the notion of Lagrangian families and its associated Abel-Jacobi maps. We take an infinitesimal approach to give a criterion for the triviality of the Abel-Jacobi map of a Lagrangian family, and use this criterion to give a negative answer to the above question, adding to the subtleties of a conjecture of Voisin. We also explore how the maximality of the variation of the Hodge structures on the degree 1 cohomology the Lagrangian family implies the triviality of the Abel-Jacobi map. The second part of the thesis, to appear in International Mathematics Research Notices [C. Bai, On some birational invariants of hyper-Kähler manifolds, ArXiv: 2210.12455, to appear in International Mathematics Research Notices, 2024] and presented in Chapter 3, studies the degree of irrationality, the fibering gonality and the fibering genus of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds, with emphasis on the K3 surfaces case, en mettant l'accent sur le cas des surfaces K3. We first give a slight improvement of a result of Voisin on the lower bound of the degree of irrationality of Mumford-Tate general hyper-Kähler manifolds. We then study the relation of the above three birational invariants for projective K3 surfaces of Picard number 1, adding the understandinf of a conjecture of Bastianelli, De Poi, Ein, Lazarsfeld, Ullery on the asymptotic behavior of the degree of irrationality of very general projective K3 surfaces. The third part of the thesis, presented in Chapter 4, studies the higher dimensional Voisin maps on strict Calabi-Yau manifolds. Voisin constructed self-rational maps of Calabi-Yau manifolds obtained as varieties of r-planes in cubic hypersurfaces of adequate dimension. This map has been thoroughly studied in the case r=1, which is the Beauville-Donagi case. For higher dimensional cases, we first study the action of the Voisin map on the holomorphic forms. We then prove the generalized Bloch conjecture for the action of the Voisin maps on Chow groups for the case of r=2. Finally, via the study of the Voisin map, we provide evidence for a conjecture of Voisin on the existence of a special 0-cycle on strict Calabi-Yau manifolds

In this thesis, I have addressed the IPR enforcement provisions of three Association Agreements (AAs), which the European Union (EU) concluded with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in the early 2010s. I drew on these AAs as representatives of the EU's often criticized external intellectual property (IP) policy, launched in 2004, which consists of exporting the EU's internal IP rules through trade agreements. Said analysis allowed me to approach the fundamental question of this thesis: is there something good with the EU trade agreements? The plain answer, supported by this thesis on the example of the AAs, is “yes”. The general investigation, which led to these conclusions, was threefold. First, I analyzed the general policy of the EU towards Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine regarding the enforcement of IPRs, as well as its perception in the academic literature. Second, after tracing existing academic criticism of the EU's trade agreements, I examined whether such criticism was justified, as applied to the three AAs. Third, based on this analysis, I identified additional problems that third countries might face when implementing a trade agreement with the EU

The increasing of image databases requires the use of a content-based image retrieval system (CBIR). A such system consist first to describe automatically the images, visual properties of each image are represented as multidimensional vectors called descriptors. Next, finding similar images to the query image is achieved by searching for the nearest neighbors of each descriptor of the query image. In this thesis, we propose a new method for indexing multidimensional bases with the search algorithm of nearest neighbors adapted. The originality of our multidimensional index is the disposition of the bounding forms avoiding overlapping. Indeed, the overlapping is one of the main drawbacks that slow the search of nearest neighbors search. Our index with its search algorithm speeds the nearest neighbors search while doing an exact search. Our method has been integrated and tested within a real content-based image system. The results of tests carried out show the robustness of our method in terms of accuracy and speed in search time
Bécot, François-Xavier. "Tyre noise over impedance surfaces : efficient application of the equivalent sources method." Lyon, INSA, 2003. http://theses.insa-lyon.fr/publication/2003ISAL0036/these.pdf.
The aim of the present work is to understand and to control the mechanisms of the tyre radiation, by designing efficient prediction tools for the propagation of the tyre / road noise over arbitrary impedance surfaces. Tyre radiation is modelled using the Equivalent Sources method. A model for the ground effects induced from a given impedance plane is developed for sources having arbitrary directivity. Moreover, the exact solution to the two-dimensional problem is derived. Based on the two previous prediction tools, an iterative model is developed for the tyre radiation over an arbitrary impedance surface. Using this model, a parametrical study examines the tendencies of tyre radiation over absorbing surfaces. The present work allows to study the possibilities of traffic noise reduction, particularly by the use of so-called silent road surfaces

In the first part of this thesis, we are concerned by the nearest neighbour problem, applied on local image descriptors. We restricted ourselves to the SIFT descriptors because of its efficiency. The application of this work is the retrieval of similar images in large databases. First, we compare performances of linear search, on CPU and on GPU (graphic processors), and also when using partial distances. Then, we propose new hash functions t solve the approximate nearest neighbours problem. The hash functions we propose are based on a selection of a few distinctive dimensions per point. For the application of near duplicate retrieval, our algorithm is more efficient than state-of-the-art algorithms. Tested on a database containing 500. 000 images, it finds similar images in less than 300ms. Eventually, we show that it fits very simply within a Bag-Of-Features approach, and it retrieves mor images than kmeans based vocabularies. In a second part, we propose several results on the problem of multi-view 3D reconstruction. We first propose a robust method to obtain the 3D reconstruction of a car from a video sequence. Our system uses the hypothesis that the car is in linear translation in order to fit a point cloud with polynomial surfaces. Then, we propose an algorithm, not dedicated to cars, that uses SIFT descriptors to obtain the 3D surface from images of an object. The descriptors correspondences are searched between input images and virtual images of the temporary object. With this method, the reconstructed surface converges to the true surface object

The recent use of large genomic fragment (BACs or YACs) has allowed to avoid this "position effect". This has been observed with a vector that was developed in our laboratory that consists of a 160 kb goat BAC insert (BAC 41) encompassing the a-lactalbumin gene, suggesting the occurrence of dominant cis-regulatory elements. The aim of this thesis was to further analyse this insert. Transgenic experiments using a derived shorter BAC of 60 kb allowed us to localise these regulatory elements in a 5' distal region of the a-lactalbumin locus. In this region two loci were identified: the cyclin T1 and FLJ20436. Characterisation of these genes revealed that they were functional within the BAC 41 and ubiquitously expressed. Surprisingly, the use of the cyclin T1 promoter in transgenics resulted in an ubiquitous expression unexpectedly high only in male germ cells. FLJ20436 pre-mRNA has a very complex splicing pattern that is conserved during evolution. These observations led us to suspect the occurrence of two chromatin domains separating these ubiquitously expressed genes from the a-lactalbumin one. Structural analysis of these genes has allowed to define a precise restriction map of the BAC 41 and to precise the location of the potential border region within the two chromatin domains. Search for cis-regulatory elements within this region was initiated. There identification and association with the a-lactalbumin promoter should contribute to the creation of efficient mammary specific expression vectors

In developing countries, evidence shows a very rapid growth of the urban population associated with a very speedy increased of the surface are of towns, Thus, raising the issue of urban control and management within a context of drastic economic crisis. A part from a few positive aspects with little significance, the analysis of the context of developing countries towns that we have examined, mainly shows peculiar difficulties which need to be taken into account when designing an information system. The major preoccupations of towns councils are related to urban roads spaces where many other technical networks are operating, Presently, actions undertaken by the Stats central administration and towns councils themselves do not seem to have been analysed beforehand. An analysis of information systems shows that the image of the town as imagined in the developed countries is not similar to the one in developing countries. So, in contrast to approaches that may more easily be shared, peculiar solutions need to be found at local level for developing countries towns. Thus, the following propositions concerning: - the creation of towns networks and the set up of intra urban technical units depending on them, with a particular stress being put on the difficulties that their elaboration may raise: -the set up of an urban database for the technical services of city councils and oriented towards the maintenance of urban roads - the transient steps that are to be followed to reach the step of computer utilisation

Zhu, Jie. "Entropic measures of connectivity with an application to intracerebral epileptic signals." Thesis, Rennes 1, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016REN1S006/document.
The work presented in this thesis deals with brain connectivity, including structural connectivity, functional connectivity and effective connectivity. These three types of connectivities are obviously linked, and their joint analysis can give us a better understanding on how brain structures and functions constrain each other. Our research particularly focuses on effective connectivity that defines connectivity graphs with information on causal links that may be direct or indirect, unidirectional or bidirectional. The main purpose of our work is to identify interactions between different brain areas from intracerebral recordings during the generation and propagation of seizure onsets, a major issue in the pre-surgical phase of epilepsy surgery treatment. Exploring effective connectivity generally follows two kinds of approaches, model-based techniques and data-driven ones. In this work, we address the question of improving the estimation of information-theoretic quantities, mainly mutual information and transfer entropy, based on k-Nearest Neighbors techniques. The proposed approaches we developed are first evaluated and compared with existing estimators on simulated signals including white noise processes, linear and nonlinear vectorial autoregressive processes, as well as realistic physiology-based models. Some of them are then applied on intracerebral electroencephalographic signals recorded on an epileptic patient, and compared with the well-known directed transfer function. The experimental results show that the proposed techniques improve the estimation of information-theoretic quantities for simulated signals, while the analysis is more difficult in real situations. Globally, the different estimators appear coherent and in accordance with the ground truth given by the clinical experts, the directed transfer function leading to interesting performance

Asphalt is a petroleum-based product used mostly as a binder in road pavement. Because the worldwide petroleum production appears to have come to a stand still, it might become difficult to answer the need in asphalt. That’s why the search for new materials has become of highest importance. This thesis deals with a new biomass : microalgae, and the focus has been made on the microalgae Scenedesmus sp. . From this specie, 22% of a lipid fraction can be extracted. This fraction, made of free fatty acids and aliphatic biopolymer, shows some interesting viscoelastic behavior, similar to the one of petroleum bitumen. Switching this extracting process to hydrothermal liquefaction, which occurs in aqueous media, almost 50% of the biomass can be turned into a bio-oil. Rheological properties of those bio-oils seem to be correlated to the experimental conditions, even though no proof has been provided yet
Belghaddar, Yassine. "Data fusion for urban network mapping : application to wastewater networks." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université de Montpellier (2022-....), 2022. http://www.theses.fr/2022UMONG092.
There are many reasons that make data management of underground networks essential: reducing the cost of repairs and expansion, running hydraulic simulations, preserving the environment etc. The available data related to these networks and more specifically wastewater ones are various, and come in different types (texts, images, GIS ,etc.) and formats (analog, digital). In addition, these multisource/multi-format data are usually incomplete, uncertain, imprecise and sometimes contradictory. Consequently, in order to extract relevant information from these inputs, a data fusion process is necessary. In fact, attributes (depth, diameter of a pipe, etc.) are always associated to a spatial representation of the objects (pipes, outfall, etc.). In this context, this work will concentrate first on using, adapting and putting forward data fusion and integration techniques to combine data collected from different sources. The second part of this thesis will be dedicated to impute and estimate missing data of a wastewater network. The result of this multidisciplinary work will be to put forward methods for fusing data and imputing the missing ones, which enables the mapping and the modelling of urban wastewater networks
Ezzeddine, Diala. "A contribution to topological learning and its application in Social Networks." Thesis, Lyon 2, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014LYO22011/document.
Supervised Learning is a popular field of Machine Learning that has made recent progress. In particular, many methods and procedures have been developed to solve the classification problem. Most classical methods in Supervised Learning use the density estimation of data to construct their classifiers. In this dissertation, we show that the topology of data can be a good alternative in constructing classifiers. We propose using topological graphs like Gabriel graphs (GG) and Relative Neighborhood Graphs (RNG) that can build the topology of data based on its neighborhood structure. To apply this concept, we create a new method called Random Neighborhood Classification (RNC).In this method, we use topological graphs to construct classifiers and then apply Ensemble Methods (EM) to get all relevant information from the data. EM is well known in Machine Learning, generates many classifiers from data and then aggregates these classifiers into one. Aggregate classifiers have been shown to be very efficient in many studies, because it leverages relevant and effective information from each generated classifier. We first compare RNC to other known classification methods using data from the UCI Irvine repository. We find that RNC works very well compared to very efficient methods such as Random Forests and Support Vector Machines. Most of the time, it ranks in the top three methods in efficiency. This result has encouraged us to study the efficiency of RNC on real data like tweets. Twitter, a microblogging Social Network, is especially useful to mine opinion on current affairs and topics that span the range of human interest, including politics. Mining political opinion from Twitter poses peculiar challenges such as the versatility of the authors when they express their political view, that motivate this study. We define a new attribute, called couple, that will be very helpful in the process to study the tweets opinion. A couple is an author that talk about a politician. We propose a new procedure that focuses on identifying the opinion on tweet using couples. We think that focusing on the couples's opinion expressed by several tweets can overcome the problems of analysing each single tweet. This approach can be useful to avoid the versatility, language ambiguity and many other artifacts that are easy to understand for a human being but not automatically for a machine. We use classical Machine Learning techniques like KNN, Random Forests (RF) and also our method RNC. We proceed in two steps : First, we build a reference set of classified couples using Naive Bayes. We also apply a second alternative method to Naive method, sampling plan procedure, to compare and evaluate the results of Naive method. Second, we evaluate the performance of this approach using proximity measures in order to use RNC, RF and KNN. The expirements used are based on real data of tweets from the French presidential election in 2012. The results show that this approach works well and that RNC performs very good in order to classify opinion in tweets.Topological Learning seems to be very intersting field to study, in particular to address the classification problem. Many concepts to get informations from topological graphs need to analyse like the ones described by Aupetit, M. in his work (2005). Our work show that Topological Learning can be an effective way to perform classification problem

The major problem of the wine-growers and collectivities in vineyard in Champagne region is the deterioration of paths by the erosion and its consequence on production costs. Indeed, of the fact of the viticulture modernization some individual arrangements as of the varied coatings, the landfill became place of concentration of the water runoff and caused erosion damages in parcels and source in downstream of an important volume of water. The objective of this work is to integrate in erosion study the landfill and geomorphologic microformes operating on fluxes concurrently. In that way we had developed a method based on G. I. S (geographic information system) " SynerGIS " from BRGM and it use a Digital Terrain Model (D. T. M. )with a metric steps. This method was applied on a watershed wine-growing, of a 47. 7 ha surface area and where the landfill represent 10. 8% of the total area. Models maps of factors influencing the erosion are achieved in first (slope, curvature of the topographic surface, soil erodability and runoff erosivity. In a second time a typology of the landfill and the linear arrangement was elaborated according to their transverse topographic shape, of the faculty of coatings to the detachment and the individual arrangement capacity to concentrate water. Maps of the linear network according to these classifications are produced. Then, the combination of maps of the network with those of key factors permits to elaborate maps of modified factors by the landfill and improvements. Finally, their crossing leads to a models map of some sensitive zones to the erosion, expressing the effect of the landfill on erosion. After field validation, different results are gotten. The impact of the landfill on the surface water outflow and water erosion was established. The network of landfill , by its field carving, modify the natural physical properties. The landfill reduces the lengh of the slope of side and its coating indented the soil physical characteristics. It is therefore the source of outflow disorderliness : their trajectories are modified and follow the linear network and not the thalwegs. It assures an toboggan effect for the pluvial waters and drag a spatial redistribution of the runoff erosion

The purpose of this thesis has been the development of a dimensioning tool for pavement design. In order to better understand their surface degradations (mainly rutting and cracking), a modelling study is carried out. This modelling task has been performed with contact mechanics tools. Particularly, a semi-analytical model has been developed, based on Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Conjugate Gradient Method (CGM) algorithms. With view to achieve a more realistic modelling of the tire-pavement contact, the focus has been put on three aspects of the contact problem. Firstly, the multi-layered aspect of the pavement has been considered. Using the Papkovich-Neuber potentials, the influence coefficients have been found in the Fourier frequency domain. A numerical inversion using FFT algorithms has allowed to find the influence coefficients in the space domain. Secondly, the viscoelastic behaviour of asphaltic materials, used in roads construction, has been accounted. To this aim, an Elastic/Viscoelastic correspondence has been proposed. This correspondence imposes to recalculate the influence coefficients at every time step. These additional calculations imply an increase of the computation time; however, the simulations remain straight and fast. In addition, the proposed correspondence is exact in some cases (especially in steady-state regime); and it is an approximation in the other cases where the committed error has been shown to be marginal. Thirdly, the effects of the tangential overall forces have been integrated to the rolling contact. The goal is that the present tool can be able to simulate acceleration, braking, turnaround, etc. cases where tangential forces and/or moment are applied on the wheel in addition to the normal force (which is generally the weight of the car or truck). This tractive rolling contact has been solved between elastically dissimilar bodies submitted not only to tangential forces but also to a spinning moment. All these aspects, introduced together in the model, have allowed to perform various parametric analyses for a better grasp of their influence on general contacts. Furthermore, an application of the developed model has allowed to simulate realistic cases of rolling contact between the tire and the pavement. From examples such as acceleration, turnaround and drift, it has been proven that the tangential forces increase significantly the overall stresses

In this work, the feasibility of a valorisation in road engineering of non-hazardous waste incineration bottom ash aggregates (NHWI) is investigated. This study is first based on an experimental determination of the elastic properties of the bottom ash particles. These properties serve as input data for hierarchical multi-scale modelling developed to study the mechanical behaviour of aggregates treated with binders (cement and bitumen). The original experimental campaign on the bottom ash particles allowed them to be mapped to the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). For the particles, a mean reduced modulus of elasticity in between 15 and 68 GPa was found by means of indentation tests and applying the "Olivier and Phan method. The chemical analysis of the aggregates was obtained using qualitative point chemical analyzes (OHS). Based on a 0/25 particle size distribution of NHWI, which was the subject of an experimental study [BEC 07] , we have implemented two 30 models < road materials treated with binders in Representative Elementary Volumes (REV). These models are based on a hierarchical multi-scale modelling strategy. Two types of binder are studied: cement CEM I 42.5 R and bitumen of [NGU 08]. For both types of binder, the treated aggregates we divided into two REV, at respectively the sub-mesoscale (0/6 mm) and the mesoscale (6/25 mm). An application to the valorisation of NHWI bottom ashes in road engineering is studied in both cases. With a 3% cement treatment, a numerical simulation campaign "Virtual Laboratory" was conducted. At the sub-mesoscale, the input parameters for the Concrete Damaged Plasticity Model used at the mesoscale are determined. At the mesoscale, the mechanical characteristics of the road materials usually determined through experiments have been found. The developed simulation strategy has been validated by comparing our numerical results and son experimental results of [BEC 07]. With a 5% bitumen treatment, stress relaxation tests carried out at the two scales enable one to obtain the thermo-rheological properties of the Bitumen Bound Gravel. These properties are the Prony series at a reference temperature of 0°C and the Williams-Landei- Ferry (WLF) law constants. Prony series are obtained by means of standardized elastic moduli. The obtained WLF law constants are Cl = 20 °C-1 and C2 = 130 °C. The numeric simulations have been validated by comparing the responses of heterogeneous and corresponding homogeneous materials
