Abstract:

This article assumes a priori that feminist epistemology must necessarily imply the definition and application of a methodology that is capable of analysing knowledge from a situated perspective, making visible the restrictions of gender, class, ethnicity, and in summary, of the social location. Feminist Standpoint Theory (FST) set out by authors such as Sandra Harding, calls on those who have not had access to power and areas of decision-making to participate in the construction of knowledge and in the social construction of reality. In this article, we will claim for a need of a sociological investigation based on FST and provide some examples and evidence of the knowledge generated by women's voices building on the analysis of 10 doctoral theses. The methodology used is based on the analysis of the topics chosen by the thesis, the formulation of its objectives and the bibliography used. Likewise, we have developed a so-called “Harding test” grounded on her postulates, which has allowed us to assess the doctoral theses analysed and to reflect about the empirical contributions of the research, the feminist commitment and what the subject / object relationship should be in feminist epistemology.

Abstract:

A neurochip comprises a small device based on the brain-machine interfaces that emulate the functioning synapses. Its implant in the human body allows the interaction of the brain with a computer. Although the data-processing speed is still slower than that of the human brain, they are being developed. There is no ethical conflict as long as it is used for neural rehabilitation or to supply impaired or missing neurological functions. However, other applications emerge as controversial. To the best of our knowledge, there have no been publications about the neurosurgical role in the application of this neurotechnological advance. Deliberation on neurochips is primarily limited to a small circle of scholars such as neurotechnological engineers, artists, philosophers, and bioethicists. Why do we address neurosurgeons? They will be directly involved as they could be required to perform invasive procedures. Future neurosurgeons will have to be a different type of neurosurgeon. They will be part of interdisciplinary teams interacting with computer engineers, neurobiologist, and ethicists. Although a neurosurgeon is not expected to be an expert in all areas, they have to be familiar with them; they have to be prepared to determine indications, contraindications and risks of the procedures, participating in the decision-making processes, and even collaborating in the design of devices to preserve anatomic structures. Social, economic, and legal aspects are also inherent to the neurosurgical activity; therefore, these aspects should also be considered.

Abstract:

Science popularization has both academic and policy implications. With the rapid development and large-scale application of science and technology, the demand for science popularization has generally increased, and its status in social development has been significantly improved. New features and challenges have emerged, such as changes in popularization content, the modernization of communication methods and the diversification of participants. In addition, science popularization is also faced with many new ethical issues. These new conditions require deeper consideration about which ethical standpoints should be established in science popularization. Beginning with an analysis of the academic and policy implications of science popularization, this study combines the new characteristics of contemporary science popularization to analyse the ethical issues it faces. Finally, it proposes an ethical standpoint that should be maintained in science popularization from the perspectives of utilitarianism, deontology, contract theory and virtue theory, and provides suggestions for converting responsible science popularization initiatives into concrete actions.

Sincere repentance needs to earn full consideration, Islam recognizes repentance as a concept that serves a significant purpose in the life of the believers. Spiritually, it is very effective in Islam, especially when it’s connected with the intention of closeness to Almighty God. Therefore, this paper will rapidly showcase the position of perfect repentance through its meaning, condition, benefits, and the perspective of Islam on its notion. Our readers would realize with the result of this research that, oftentimes, the noble religion (Islam) has explained the course of real repentance, in order to enlighten mankind on its benefit. Meanwhile, with repentance, a man will stay closer to God, know the right relationship with a fellow human, and run away from sins and evil. However, the master of repentance (seyyid ul-istigfar) would be addressed to fulfil the real meaning of this special prayer and correct the people’s fallacies connected to it. While in the study, repentance in a meaningful way will be detailed regarding verses of the Qur’an, prophetic tradition, and scholars’ work to derive quality research for this paperwork.

Environmental Context. The toxicity of the volatile metal mercury is well known; this Hg0 form accounts for about 99% of atmospheric mercury and the remainder the water-soluble oxidized (Hg+, Hg2+) form. The release of mercury from the atmosphere is measurable by a drop in the Hg0 levels, but to establish realistic scientific and regulatory standpoints the rate in which Hg0 converts to the oxidized forms needs to be understood. Conversely, from an industrial standpoint, understanding the rate at which the oxidized forms convert to Hg0 allows for better waste-scrubbing processes. Abstract. Theoretical rate constants and activation energies are predicted for the decomposition of mercuric chloride through the use of relativistic pseudopotentials for mercury at the B3LYP level of theory. The method and basis set combinations are validated through a comparison of theoretically determined geometries, frequencies, and reaction enthalpies to experimental values found in the literature. In addition, the theoretically predicted rate constants are compared to rate constants that have been predicted through combustion modelling of this reaction.

Abstract:

This article describes a balance theory of wisdom and some of its applications to education. The article opens with a consideration of some great modern world figures, and argues that what has distinguished them is their wisdom. The article next discusses what wisdom is, both from the standpoint of the dictionary and from the standpoint of the balance theory of wisdom. The article continues with an explication of the theory and its basic ideas. According to the balance theory, wisdom is the application of successful intelligence to the balancing of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and extrapersonal interests; over the short- and long-terms; by adapting to, shaping, and selecting environments; in order to achieve a common good. This common good is in turn determined through the application of values. The article continues with a discussion of how wisdom can be measured, and then suggests some principles for teaching wisdom. It concludes that teaching for wisdom may be one of the most important kinds of teaching teachers can provide.

In the article, from the standpoint of economic theory, the construction of partial and integral assessments of the activity of the SROA is considered through the assessment of the quality of this activity (and not its effectiveness or efficiency). The expediency of using the method of point estimates and its specific application in the construction of these estimates is shown - both from the standpoint of the national economic approach and from the standpoint of the SROA itself. A table of 18 main activities of the SROA is compiled, based mainly on legislative acts. A number of organizational aspects of the evaluation of the SROA activity are analyzed.

Abstract. Terrestrial laser scanning has become more and more popular in recent years. The according planning of the standpoint network is a crucial issue influencing the overhead and the resulting point cloud. Fully static approaches are both cost and time extensive, whereas fully kinematic approaches cannot produce the same data quality. Stop-and-go scanning, which combines the strengths of both strategies, represents a good alternative solution. In the scanning process, the standpoint planning is by now mostly a manual process based on expert knowledge and relying on the surveyor’s experience. This paper provides a method based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) ensuring an optimal placement of scanner standpoints considering all scanner-related constraints (e.g. incidence angle), a full coverage of the scenery, a sufficient overlap for the subsequent registration and an optimal route planning solving a Traveling Salesperson Problem (TSP). This enables the fully automatic application of autonomous systems for providing a complete model while performing a stop-and-go laser scanning, e.g. with the Spot robot from Boston Dynamics. Our pre-computed solution, i.e. standpoints and trajectory, has been evaluated surveying a real-world environment using a 360° panoramic laser scanner and successfully compared with a precise LoD2 building model of the underlying scene. The performed ICP-based registration issued from our fully automatic pipeline turns out to be a very good and safe alternative of the otherwise laborious target-based registration.

AbstractDigitalisation is making significant inroads into society at the same time as the general commercial trend is to able to personalise the product one acquires. The field of digital product representation, and the techniques for adopting a particular product in accordance with the customer's expectations, have become very important corporate assets. From a company's perspective these assets can be leveraged both for internal efficiency and also for different types of external customer interactions. In this article, the standpoint is that product geometry forms the foundation for digital product representation. It is from this perspective that the geometrical ecosystem comes into focus. Geometry creation and geometry consumption, in combination with geometrical configuration management, are high-value areas that must be mastered. A research-based 20-year industrial perspective building up such capabilities serves as an example. The article concludes with a forward-looking perspective on potential areas for continued exploration on this journey.

Yet the romantic dominates social work and social decision-making in the United States and may explain the precipitous decline of social work over the past century. Abstract:

We study the known coherent states of a quantum harmonic oscillator from the standpoint of the originally developed noncommutative integration method for linear partial differential equations. The application of the method is based on the symmetry properties of the Schrödinger equation and on the orbit geometry of the coadjoint representation of Lie groups. We have shown that analogs of coherent states constructed by the noncommutative integration can be expressed in terms of the solution to a system of differential equations on the Lie group of the oscillatory Lie algebra. The solutions constructed are directly related to irreducible representation of the Lie algebra on the Hilbert space functions on the Lagrangian submanifold to the orbit of the coadjoint representation.

Background/Context There historically exists significant epistemological and political tension within the field of curriculum studies. Further, although there is some application of standpoint theory in educational research generally, and little used within curriculum studies specifically, much of it is undertheorized at best and, in many cases, misapplied or misunderstood. Purpose/Objective/Research Question/Focus of Study The purpose of this article is to offer a potential resolution to the epistemological and political tension within the field of curriculum studies through the development of a conception of curricular standpoint that recognizes the dialectical relationship between the subjectivity of experience and the materiality of social and economic relations. Another purpose of this article is both to illustrate curricular standpoint as both a methodological tool for analysis and to justify a politics of social justice in classroom practice. Research Design This study is designed as an analytic essay that addresses critical issues within curriculum studies, develops a conceptual framework to address those issues, and analyzes concrete examples that illustrate the conceptual framework. Conclusions/Recommendations This study concludes that the framework for curricular standpoint can serve as a viable methodological tool for curriculum studies to overcome its ongoing epistemological and political tensions, and as an epistemologically strong orientation for the curriculum taught by classroom teachers.

It advocates and promotes the use of gay and lesbian standpoint and defends research with emancipatory aims, notably in the light of academic and theoretical developments which eschew real-life experience and categories of identity rooted in lived actuality. Suggesting that queer theory is largely irrelevant to the lives of gay men and lesbians, it advocates a return to an engaged and practical sociology which acknowledges the benefit of research which has potential for application by the communities it observes.

Abstract: The authority in making the Regional Regulation (Perda) is a tangible manifestation of the application of the widely autonomy owned by a certain region. As a country that adheres to the principle of legality in each preparation and formation of legislation, the definition of regional authority in the preparation and establishment of local regulations must refer to the existing statutory provisions, especially those which govern the relationship between the central and the region in the Unitary of the Republic of Indonesia. Study on the existence of the Syari’ah Regional Regulation is a topic of the discussion that characterizes the dynamics of science, especially after the reform in Indonesia. The standpoint of most of the discussions about the existence of the Syari’ah Regional Regulation is quite varied, among others are: (a) from a legal standpoint, namely Law No. 10 year 2004 about the establishment of laws and regulations; (b) from a political standpoint; (c) from a social standpoint, and; (d) assessment of the investment point of view. From some of these studies, public policy should be any more emphasis on the benefit aspects of society. Nussbaum (1998) proposed that Socratic activity is a worthwhile pursuit with regard to academic advising relationships. While it offers the promise of certain benefits, such as the development of critical thinking skills, Socratic activity arguably cannot be universally applied to all advising relationships. In presenting and analyzing issues related to the Socratic method, I offer support for a model of quasi-Socratic activity in advising as first identified by Hagen (1994). Referred to as “beneficial dialectic,” it can function from a more contextual standpoint than the traditional Socratic questioning method because through it advisors can consider factors such as level of student development, learning environments, and individual proclivities.

Abstract:

Nowadays, mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) have to support new applications including VoIP (voice over IP) that impose stringent QoS (quality of service) constraints and requirements. However, VoIP applications make a very inefficient use of the MANET resources. Our work represents a first step toward improving aspects at the network layer by addressing issues from the standpoint of adaptation, claiming that effective adaptation of routing parameters can enhance VoIP quality. The most important contribution is the adaptive OLSR-VA algorithm which provides an integrated environment where VoIP activity is constantly detected and routing parameters are adapted in order to meet the application requirements. To investigate the performance advantage achieved by such algorithm, a number of realistic simulations (MANET scenarios) are performed under different conditions. The most important observation is that performance is satisfactory in terms of the perceived voice quality.

In our study, from a theoretical and practical standpoint, the directions of green financing in various elements of the green economy were analyzed. In Russia, by the beginning of 2015, the portfolio of investment projects in the field of renewable energy sources amounted to more than 100 billion rubles. Until 2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources intends to attract about 3.5 trillion rubles in the development of renewable energy sources. In January 2019, the national project «Ecology» was approved in Russia, where 19.9% is government funding, the rest is a great potential for the development of green financing for all 11 Federal Projects, especially BAT. The article presents successful green finance projects in Russia and abroad.

Abstract In this paper, I show that we can find some foundations of logic and legal argumentation in the tablets of Mesopotamia at least since the dynasty of Ur III. In these texts, we see the oldest correct application of logical inference rules (e.g. modus ponens). (2) There is a rational judge represented by high-ranking citizens who should follow only logical conclusions from facts and law articles as premises.

In this paper, a polynomial-time algorithm is provided which is able to obtain the closed form of the RF under (nonconvex) FDH productions technologies. Finite convergence of the presented algorithm is proved; and it is established that the algorithm is polynomial-time from a complexity standpoint. The use of metals of nanometer dimensions to enhance and manipulate light-matter interactions for emerging plasmonics-enabled nanophotonic and optoelectronic applications is an interesting yet not highly explored area of research beyond plasmonics. Even more importantly, the concept of an active metal that can undergo an optical nonvolatile transition has not been explored. Here, we demonstrate that antimony (Sb), a pure metal, is optically distinguishable between two programmable states as nanoscale thin films. We show that these states, corresponding to the crystalline and amorphous phases of the metal, are stable at room temperature. Crucially from an application standpoint, we demonstrate both its optoelectronic modulation capabilities and switching speed using single subpicosecond pulses. The simplicity of depositing a single metal portends its potential for use in any optoelectronic application where metallic conductors with an actively tunable state are important.

The economic downturn in Eurozone countries started in late 2007, and it continues today, over a decade later. Current Eurozone economic austerity policy is a quantitatively driven “one size fits all” policy whose goals are to decrease Eurozone countries’ debt through a set of “belt-tightening” measures that amount to massive cutbacks in the service sector. Such measures have been shown to negatively impact the most vulnerable within these societies—youth, the elderly, and single mothers and their children. This paper argues that applying a feminist standpoint approach and praxis provides a reflexive perspective for assessing the current framework and application of Eurozone austerity policies, as well as their social and economic consequences. The application of a feminist perspective and praxis assesses the degree to which austerity policy promotes social justice and transformative goals. It offers “out of the box” ways for re-thinking economic policies, which provide ways to integrate the voices and lived experiences of those most impacted by economic downturns.

The features of applying the «open triangle» scheme in the structure of a rural low-voltage distribution network with a voltage of 220 V are studied from the standpoint of achieving a certain energy efficiency. The energy effect is estimated by the criterion of the relative value of the additional power losses in the conductors of a three-wire line of a 220 V network caused by reactive power and load asymmetry. The load is modeled by two power receivers connected to the phase-to-phase voltage, the general output of the power receivers is grounded, which forms the «open triangle» circuit. The energy characteristics of the active load, active load with capacitive corrective element, active load with capacitive and inductive corrective elements are analyzed; and also the most practical case – active-inductive load with various values of reactive power factors -0,1; 0,2; 0,3 and capacitive corrective element. An important feature of applying the «open triangle» scheme in the structure of a rural low-voltage distribution network with a voltage of 220 V, from the standpoint of achieving practically necessary and sufficient energy efficiency - not exceeding 10 % of the additional power losses, is the ability to compensate for reactive power and balancing the phase currents of the network line using only one corrective capacitor of relatively low power - about 50 % of the active power of one power receiver.

Mobile application development platforms (MADPs) vary in terms of their development capabilities and competency to fulfill the specific needs of organizations. Therefore, acknowledging the most appropriate MADP to adopt remains a challenging task for many organizations. Aiming to investigate the key factors of MADPs adoption in organizations, this study analyzed 1200 online evaluation reviews for six widely used MADPs posted by mobile applications developers. Based on the content analysis of online reviews, 26 factors emerged as significant contributors to the adoption decision of MADPs from the standpoint of developers. These factors were integrated into a conceptual framework of MADPs adoption based on the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework. The results of this study indicate that in addition to the technological capabilities, the adoption decision of MADPs depends on several organizational and environmental factors. These results provide not only a theoretical foundation for further research on MADPs adoption but also offers actionable guidance for practical implementation.

Radioactive Marker Technique (RMT), an in-situ method to measure reservoir rock compaction and to evaluate uniaxial compressibility coefficients Cm, is examined here. Recent field applications seems to confirm that RMT-derived Cm’s match with sufficient precision with those calculated from land subsidence observed over the field by means of geodetic surveys, but are not always in good agreement with those derived from lab measurements. In particular, here is reported an application of RMT in the Italian Adriatic offshore, which highlights the discrepancies of Cm’s measurements from lab and RMT. At present, these discrepancies aren’t thoroughly understood, so, from an applicative standpoint, it is still necessary to perform a critical comparison and integration between both set of data.

This paper summarizes and interprets several years of research that considered the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's assertion that the Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) will become an economical alternative to automobile and airline travel — a radical paradigmatic shift. However, the literature suggests that revolutionary changes to major techno-economic paradigms should not always be made in singular radical disruptions, but rather, through the commercialization of technologies in series of market niches chosen wisely. Therefore, hypothetical SATS aircraft cost and technical performance characteristics were computer-modeled to simulate SATS in the corporate aviation environment, and in the air taxi industry. Results of exploratory research based on these models are reviewed. From the standpoint of traditional Strategic Management theory, implications are offered regarding the successful incubation of this emerging industry.

Optimal reconstructive methods depend on the location and size of the defect. Finally, refinement of the reconstruction is achieved through dermabrasion, scar revision, and flap thinning techniques.

Timely and high-quality application of pesticides contributes to environmental protection, economical production and production of healthy food. The efficacy of pesticide application depends not only on the quality of pesticides but also the quality of the application. One of the factor that most influences the quality of applications, from the standpoint of mechanization, are nozzles. They working liquid applied on the surface the plant resulting in the same volume of pesticide is applied to the entire surface of the plants. To achieve this goal, nozzles must be performed uniform application of working liquid per unit area, or tractor sprayer working width. The variable factor in the application of pesticides may be nozzle and operating pressure. With increasing working pressure obtained smaller droplets. The paper presents test of three different nozzles. Each nozzle is characterized by a flat jet with an angle of 110° and a flow rate of 1.6 l∙min−1 at a pressure of 3 bar. Differ from each other are by the way of disintegration of the jet. Exactly this characteristic causes that with pressure change coming to changes in the uniformity of nozzles transverse distribution. So the best distribution has nozzle with a flat jet. The coefficient of variation is between roughly from 4 to 6 % at the pressure application of 2 to 4 bar. Obtained mathematical model that describes changes in the coefficient of variation depending on pressure applications can be a good basis for easy harmonization parameters in the pesticide application.
