Full textThis work is dedicated to the characterization of thermoelectric materials, as well as the simulation of their application and optimization by using a mathematical model. Thermoelectric generators are commonly used in space exploration for many decades, however their application can be extended to the recovery of exhaust gases in automobiles and industrial processes as well as the powering of different types of remote sensors. In this work, the BaGd2NiO5 material and its doping states with Ca were studied for the first time in terms of their thermoelectric properties such as Seebeck coefficient, thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. A mathematical model was also developed to simulate the application performance of any thermoelectric material for various working conditions. After the experimental validation of the model it was used to simulate the performance of Ca0.15BaGd1.85NiO5 compound, which presented the best thermoelectric properties. The numerical simulations showed that the performance of a thermoelectric generator with this material would be as better as larger is the temperature difference that the module is subjected and as greater is the heat transfer from hot and cold sources to the thermoelectric generator. The electrical conductivity of Ca0.15BaGd1.85NiO5 is the main reason for its low viability since the conversion efficiency was much lower than 1% and the power output was also reduced. This work revealed that the doping of BaGd2NiO5 with Ca can improve its thermoelectric properties, such as the increasing of the electrical conductivity and the reduction of the thermal conductivity. Moreover, the optimization of the application showed to be important in terms of increasing the performance and reducing the material. The mathematical model permitted to conclude that the optimum thickness of the thermoelements will be as smaller as larger is the heat transfer coefficient by convection of the hot and cold fluids. The simulations with the mathematical were also useful to conclude that a generator with thermoelectric properties of Ca0.15BaGd1.85NiO5 could have a wide applicability if its electrical conductivity could be a hundred times greater than the current value.
Este trabalho é dedicado à caracterização de materiais termoeléctricos, bem como a simulação da sua aplicação e otimização utilizando um modelo matemático. Os geradores termoeléctricos são utilizados com frequência na exploração espacial à várias décadas, no entanto a sua aplicação pode ser alargada à recuperação de gases de escape em automóveis e processos industriais, bem como na alimentação de diferentes tipos de sensores remotos. No presente trabalho, o material BaGd2NiO5 e seus estados de dopagem com Ca foram estudados pela primeira vez a nível das suas propriedades termoeléctricas tais como coeficiente de Seebeck, condutividade térmica e condutividade eléctrica. Um modelo matemático foi desenvolvido de forma a simular o desempenho da aplicação de um determinado material termoeléctrico para várias condições de trabalho. Após a validação experimental do modelo, o mesmo foi utilizado para simular o desempenho do composto Ca0.15BaGd1.85NiO5, o qual apresentou as melhores propriedades termoeléctricas. As simulações numéricas permitiram concluir que o desempenho de um gerador termoeléctrico com este tipo de material seria tanto melhor quanto maior for a diferença de temperaturas a que está sujeito e quanto maior for o coeficiente de transferência de calor por convecção das fontes quente e fria. A baixa condutividade eléctrica do material Ca0.15BaGd1.85NiO5 fez com que a viabilidade da sua utilização apresente algumas dificuldades uma vez que a sua eficiência será inferior a 1%, sendo a potência produzida igualmente reduzida. Este trabalho permitiu concluir que a dopagem do material BaGd2NiO5 com Ca poderá melhorar as suas propriedades termoeléctricas, nomeadamente com o aumento da condutividade eléctrica e com a redução da condutividade térmica. Por outro lado, a otimização da aplicação mostrou ser relevante em termos de aumento do desempenho e redução de material. O modelo matemático permitiu concluir que a espessura ótima dos elementos termoeléctricos será tanto menor quanto maior for o coeficiente de transferência de calor por convecção dos fluídos quente e frio. A partir do modelo matemático foi ainda possível concluir que um gerador com as propriedades de Ca0.15BaGd1.85NiO5 poderia ter uma grande aplicabilidade e se a sua condutividade eléctrica fosse cem vezes superior ao valor atual.

Syftet av det projektet är att utvärdera ett sätt att hantera den växande mängden av användares digitala data i telefoner (speciellt SMS-loggar) genom att försöka skapa, i raderingsprocessen av gamla SMS, någonting potentiellt meningsfullt i lekfull stil: dikter. Studenternas projekt var att utveckla en konkretiserad demo för deras idé, en SMS-log-raderande och poesigenerande applikation, mer bestämt den japanska poesiformen ”haiku” som valt format, utvecklat på den mobila plattformen Android. Målet: att ge forskarna en grund att fortsätta med in i användarstudie- och demonstrationsfasen av deras projekt. Resultatet av utvecklingsprocessen var en fungerande demoapplikation i full skala, emellertid givetvis lämnad med många förbättrings och tilläggsmöjligheter på grund av den begränsade tidsplanen för studentprojektet, och presentationer av lösta programmeringsoch designimplementationsutmaningar.

Full textThe main objective of this dissertation is to contribute knowledge toward the design of small PM wind generators, which includes the application of soft magnetic composite (SMC) materials to the desing of these machines. A problem is first addressed of adapting a PM wind generator, intended for high-speed operation with a small 3-bladed wind turbine, for low speed operation with a new multi-blade, high solidity turbine. An analytical model is formulated and then used to examine the effect of several changes to the design of the wind generator. A new specification of the redesigned machine is then set. The overall performance of the redesigned machine coupled to the new turbine is shown to be satisfactory.

This thesis aims to develop a micro-generator that can be applied to any equipment with inertial movement. Based on the modularization, simple structure and easy processing, this generator can modify the target equipment without affecting its movements. The micro-generator has been driven by the inertial movement of the equipment. By introducing commutation and control circuits, the electric energy produced by the generator can be stored in batteries or supplied to the loaded equipment. A simulation platform prepared for the test and the circuit test results confirm the feasibility of the generator, which then has been applied to electric bicycles.

As computer and communication techniques continuously improve, computer network plays an important role in interchanging information. At present, Many enterprises are eager to catch more business opportunities by transferring their services onto the network. However, it is time-consuming and expansive to construct a network service system and it must be accomplished by application programmer. In the paper, we will apply the concept of agent to develop an application framework. The enterprises can use this framework to construct their own network service system. We have implemented an agent generator by object-oriented approach. Instead of learning complex programming language, the user set the initial variables and functions through GUI. According to the user’s demand, this agent generator is able to create mobile agents that can provide convenient services on the network. The function of this mobile agent can be adjusted flexibly to meet the needs of the user.

Component-based software is finally taking off in a big way and component-based application generators have been championed because they can be used to shorten a system’s development cycle and therefore lower its development costs. Component-based application generators are standardardized building blocks that can be used to assemble, rather that develop, information systems (IS). This paper presents a component-based application generator in the restaurant food ordering setting and a requirement modeling methodology for IS construction based on the generator presented. A prototype was assembled using the generator and methodology presented to illustrate the concepts and application. With this approach, system developers or end users can more easily build, modify and maintain their applications.

Tsallis distribution was proposed by C. Tsallis in 1996 to solve the slow convergence problem of simulated annealing. It is shown that Tsallis’s generalized simulated annealing is much faster than the classical simulated annealing (“Boltzmann machine”) and fast simulated annealing (“Cauchy machine”). However, Tsallis distribution is very complicated and its random variable could not be generated by ordinary simulation techniques such as inversion and rejection methods. Tsallis adopts algorithm of R. N. Mantegna (1994) to produce a Tsallis random number generator. This method has many problems, however. First it could generate complex number when the parameter is near by 1.4. Second, when it is generated using Monte Carlo simulation, its histogram is not identical with the corresponding theoretical probability density (PDF). We plan to come out with a better Tsallis random number generator which can match the Tsallis’s PDF in most cases of its parameter’s ranges.

In this study, we use a piezoelectric cantilever beam as the main components of generation to research a torsional generator system. We also use finite element analysis software ANSYS to analyze the stress and strain of the system. The driving source of the torsional generator system is a stepping motor. We use Keli C to compile the driving program, and burn the program into the 8051 chip by ISP-Pgm3v0. The stepping motor control card will send the signal to 8051 chip to control the positive and negative rotation speed, and frequency of stepping motor. In Energy extraction, we transfer DC signal to AC signal by full bridge rectifier circuit. The voltage is 11.4 volts when the torsion angle is 9 degrees, and the piezoelectric cantilever tip displacement is 1.04 mm . Finally, we obtain the average voltage is 6.5 volts by applying the torsional generator to a mouse system.

In this study, a piezoelectric cantilever beam was used to be the main components of the generating system. The generating system used magnetic force to enforce piezoelectric cantilever beam producing deformation. The generating electricity characteristic was analyzed. We also used ANSYS, the finite element analysis software, to analyze the stress and strain of the system. In the experiment, we bonded a NdFeB magnet to the piezoelectric cantilever beam free end, a disc which combined with NdFeB magnets was under the cantilever beam. With the rotating of the disc, the magnet force enforced the piezoelectric cantilever beam producing up and down bending motion. Then, electricity was producing by the bending motion of the piezoelectric cantilever beam. Finally, we applied the generating system to the bike system. The experiment results shown we can obtain 8.3 volts electricity with the 15mm magnet spacing and the 220 rpm of disc rotation speed. The LED can be light on by the generating electricity.

The value - added telephone application systems (TAS) are very popular nowadays. Hence how to design an automatic program generator (APG) to reduce the cost and design time for TAS becomes very important. In this thesis, we present a flexible object - oriented APG for TAS. APG can be separated into two periods, design - time period and run - time period. In design-time perido, a visulized system architecture tree is built by APG. In run-time period, trans - form the system architecture tree into TAS and run the TAS. According to object - oriented design, the TAS generated by APG is composed of many object units which can be separated into four levels, including control level, function level, interaction level and hardware level. It is very flexible and convenient while designing or updating system architecture tree resulting from the object - oriented design, Both in system development and maintenance, APG reduces the cost drastically for the TAS designers. The proposed design method is realized using the voice modem. Finally, three TAS examples are developed using the proposed APG. After the performance tests of the examples, it is proved that the proposed APG can generate the correct TAS and save lots of cost and design time.

With the rapid development of the embedded system, many new application-specific instruction-set processors (ASIP) are developed in the last few years, which are getting more and more attractive due to their balance between computational efficiency and flexibility. In order to reduce both the design time and the development cost, architecture description languages (ADL) have been established to aid the design of ASIP, which is an active research field to automatic generation of a software toolkit, including C compiler, assembler, linker, and simulator etc. However, most researches in this field focus on automatic generation of compiler, few efforts shed light on the automatic generation of other tools. In this thesis, we propose a framework that can automatically port GNU binutils package, which contain a suite of downstream software development tools such as assembler, disassebmbler and linker etc. We construct our framework base on CGEN, a developing generator of CPU-related tools. With CGEN''s help, we can easily model instruction set architecture of a processor. Besides, we developed a tool, ALGEN, to complete the remaining work, which mainly focus on relocation handling. With ALGEN and CGEN, we can automatically port GNU binuitls to a new architecture. To verify the feasibility of our framework, we tried to port GNU binutils to FR30 and OPENRISC. The implementation results show that our framework is practical and useful.

The design of the timing generator plays a very important role in the automatic test equipment (ATE). The timing generator requires a higher operating speed and precise timing trigger signal. In this thesis, a new architecture of the timing generator which contains coarse and fine stages and divider is proposed to provide the dynamic switching so as to choose the arbitrary timing output. With the aid of delay-locked loop (DLL) the closed-loop control of precise timing is achieved. In the thesis, the fundamental structure of the automatic test equipment is introduced at first. Then, the basic architecture and operating principles of delay-locked loop is explained. The design of the coarse and fine stages of timing generators are also described. Finally, the new architecture of the overall timing generator is proposed. The circuit design utilized 0.18μm process to validate its functionality.

In the thesis, we focus on the AD-SSCG (All Digital Spread Spectrum Clock Generator) modulation method with input reference. In order to achieve higher frequency and less frequency deviation, we propose a new Domino modulation method. We can improve the modulated clock to 100MHz and 5000ppm of frequency deviation as compared to 23MHz modulated clock and 3% of frequency deviation is published before. In the architecture design, we propose a novel Coarse-Fine DDLi (Digital Delay Line) structure, it improve the power and area by 330% and 383% than traditional structure. The AD-SSCG has the potential to become an IP because all of the circuits are deigned by digital circuit. This IP is used to work with a 1.2GHz and a 3GHz PLL, and both of them can spread spectrum successfully. Finally, our AD-SSCG and a 3GHz PLL are implemented with UMC-90-CMOS 1P9M process. The area and power of AD-SSCG are respectively 335um × 105um and 2.9mW, and the EMI reduction of 3GHz PLL is 22dB by hspice post-sim simulation. Finally, a proposed digital programmable Gaussian clock generator is designed for CDR (Clock and Data Recovery Circuit) testing. The Gaussian clock generator uses Gaussian noise generator to transforms a clock to a Gaussian clock. The generated Gaussian clock has the ability of controlled jitter to verify CDR with different environments. By using the proposed Gaussian clock generator on a FPGA board, we can easily verify the performance of the CDR to 1012 data to check the Bit ERROR Rate (BER).

This research focuses on using the microelectromechanicalsystem (MEMS) technology to design and produce a micro bubble generator by piezoelectric actuator. The main structure use a ring shaped piezoelectric ceramic that is coupled a nickel nozzle plate. The piezoelectric plate has the characteristics of small size, high precision, easy control and fast response of frequency. Using the right design and the piezoelectric effect to power the piezoelectric plate will produce the vibration. The vibration contain enough energy to input oxygen gas into blood and trim off the micro bubble and spray them out. Improve the pulse oximetry in the blood by the very small bubble that the microbubble generator produces Micro bubble generator has two parts: piezoelectricity actuator and micro nickel nozzle plate. The research finishes two parts. First part has stuied the micro bubble producing methods and how the sizes of the bubbles. The next part is about the application of micro bubble generator to the blood actually then research the variation of the pulse oximetry.

An idea of reusing previously developed modules, packages, components, software development methodologies, analysis data and test information has been attracting as a keystone to improve software productivity. This approach was called component-based development (CBD) or component-based software engineering (CBSE) and is becoming the main stream of software development. Various CBD approaches, tools, and techniques were proposed in the literature, however the research on the integration of the above into an environment to enhance the system development is virtually lacking. Therefore, we proposed a framework of application generator, which integrates above approaches and concepts into a collaborative mechanism. Otherwise, we proposed a methodology based on our generator for end users to translate the business models or user requirements into the specification and construct application more efficient. Finally, we apply this methodology to a real-world case and generate the application by the generator in order to verify the feasibility.

In this thesis, we design a clock generator with output frequency from 6.25 to 100MHz for video line-locked applications. We present a PLL based simple structure clock generator that has been fully integrated on a single chip, so that no external discrete components are needed. This PLL includes a phase frequency detector, a charge-pump loop filter circuit, a voltage-controlled oscillator, and a programmable N divider. In the phase frequency detector we use a equal circuit to improve the output characteristics and to reduce the dead-zoom range of conventional phase frequency detector. In the charge pump loop filter, we use the current that generated from the charge-pump circuit to control the voltage-controlled oscillator. Fully differential structure is also used in this design of the voltage-controlled oscillator to reduce the noise effect. The programmable N divider can provide a varied frequency that we need. Power supply of 5V is used in this design of PLL chip. The PLL is fabricated with UMC 0.5um double-poly-double-metal N-well CMOS technology. The power dissipation of the PLL is about 65mW. While the layout of the core circuit is 600um*700um.

Mobile devices have become one of the most commonly used products in our life, and a variety of applications have brought us much convience. However, the applications also come with security concerns. As the Android platform has the highest market share in mobile devices, its security can not be neglected. Inspection of applications falls into two catagories, static analysis and dynamic analysis. Static analysis uses less resource since it does not execute the applications, but it may encounter problems such as obfuscated targets. Dynamic analysis can be adopted to provide more in-depth analysis by retrieving runtime information. The credibility of dynamic analysis relies on how much code has been executed, namely code coverage. How to generate inputs to reach high code coverage for dynamic analysis becomes an important topic. There are many works and tools, but most of them have many restrictions, such as instrumentation on system or applications is needed, or it may take a lot of processing time. We want to generate inputs that can achieve higher code coverage in a fixed time with less restrictions. In general, it is hard to obtain the source code of an application, so we mainly focus on black-box testing. In this paper, we propose an input generator based on the AccessibilityService provided by Android official and heuristed-based algorithm. It can automatically generate inputs for black-box testing of Android applications. We focus on clickable and scrollable GUI components since they occupy the highest rate. Some components like input text fields are beyond the scope of this paper bacause of the lower occupancy rate, and there may be no such components in an application.

In this thesis, a piezoelectric cantilever beam is used as a component for power generation. The rotating shaft is used to match the magnetic force of a strong magnet onthe piezoelectric piece to force the piezoelectric piece to deform, so as to study the power generation effect of the piezoelectric cantilever beam power generation system. In the study, the finite element analysis software ANSYS is used to simulate the stress and strain of the piezoelectric cantilever beam, so as to understand the stress and strain distribution of the piezoelectric cantilever beam. In the experiment, strong magnets were attached to the free end of the disc and the piezoelectric cantilever beam. A water pump with a water pump for the aquarium filter was used as the power source. The piezoelectric cantilever beam is deformed by the rotation of the disk and the magnetic force generating electric energy. In the study, the Taguchi method was used to find out the four parameters of the waterwheel blade number, the magnet spacing of 12 mm, the magnet number of 4, and the polarity of the magnet as the best combination conditions. The voltage value obtained in the experiment was 4.48V. Finally, the piezoelectric water wheel generator system is applied to the illumination lamp of the ornamental aquarium as an autonomous power supply system.

Because of the rapid development of Internet, it is the best choice to build up the multi-layer system by using Web-based architecture. By the Web interface and unified standard, the next generation information systems will be based on it as development environment. But there are still many problems solved by using Web-based application. For examples: the program code was too loose to manage, the program control code mixed with HTML tag in the web-pages, and so forth. They will increase the difficulty in programming and maintaining in the future. The purpose of this thesis is to present a Web-based application development architecture. The thesis proposed the application generator which was web-based environment by using MVC design pattern. It can separate the logical control and the presentation in order to construct a well programming development environment. The generated system could reduce the design time and cost. With meta-data concept, we store the program code and system analysis document which were structured in database.

Flow metering devices are one of the most important apparatus to measure/control fluid flows in pipelines, including industries such as chemical/petroleum plants, as well as residential/municipal facilities. In recent years, the systems have advanced into digital era with the development of science and technology. However, batteries and wired electricity are still the major operating power. In this proposed “Self-Powered Pipe Flow Metering System (SPPFM)”, the pipe flow drives the rotor of a generator to power the measuring unit itself. Thanks to the system, only small part of the flow power is converted into electric power to obsolete the replacement of batteries or to eliminate the lengthy electric supply wires all together. Major parameters including power needed and power generated under different flow rate are investigated. Based on the results of the experiments, feasibilities of the system are discussed. A commercial flow meter was used to calibrate this SPPFM system and the results of such a calibration are presented in the paper. A technique to achieve both goals using single generator hardware is explained. It was seen from the experiment that the SPPFM system would produce more electric power than the basic needs for an embedded digital measuring unit, leaving rooms for growing features such as wireless communication, graphic display and data storage.

The size of the output voltage of traditional power generators depend on the magnetic flux changes in the induction coil over an amount of time, so in order to increase the output voltage one needs to increase the size of the magnetic field, the number of induction coils, add silicon steels, and install gear boxes..etc. However, these methods will cause the rotor weight to increase, resulting in a magnetic pull, thereby increasing the generator bearing load which makes the rotor harder to run, making it a bad choice to use clean energy as its driving source. Therefore how to improve traditional power generating devices is the purpose of this research. This thesis report introduces a newly developed “Planet Style Power Generator”, and applies this generator on a variety of devices. Based on actual testing results using the device on HPEG, the maximum output of the developed HPEG can reach 300W, with the output current being 1.2~1.3A. Using the device on an emergency back up power generator, the maximum output power could reach up to 46W, with a maximum output current of 0.38A.Used on Planetary axial flux a single-phase AC power permanent magnet generator, the greatest successful output is about 410W when the rotating speed reaches the maximum 200 rpm.

ABSTRACT Traditional self-souring fitness bike takes rotor of generator as magnetism conductor and outside electromagnet is the source of magnetic force. Its reluctance is that changes the current on electromagnet to produce magnetic force to stop flywheel. Such the coreless structure of the generator has high efficiency and high power weight ratio and it can improve the characteristics of overheating of the core in the traditional generator and decrease the starting torque. Then, the life of the generator can be intended. Due to the coreless structure, the total weight of the generator will be decreased. In this thesis, a disc type coreless generator with electromagnetic braking apparatus is built. The whole system includes mechanical power apparatus, the coreless generator, electromagnetic braking apparatus, and power converter. Electricity generated by generator needs enough to provide stable power for the panel of function display and electromagnetic braking apparatus that can produce stable reluctance of braking. Finally, an experimental hardware with software algorithm is established to prove the effective for the proposed system.

Thomas et al. developed Self-priming dielectric elastomer generators by combining two Cone-type dielectric elastomers. In this paper, we analyzed the feasibility of the application of cone-type dielectric elastomers in shoe generator by fitting the Self-priming dielectric elastomer generators in the heel and forefoot of shoes. Making full use of every step to generate energy is the great advantage of this application. Normal shoe generators scavenge energy by heel striking the ground. In this paper, cone-type dielectric elastomer generator scavenges energy by not only heel striking the ground, but also weight transferring from heel to forefoot and foot leaving the ground. In this paper we first did the derivation of the electric power formula of cone-type dielectric elastomer and find out two power generation modes. Then found appropriate material and size of the cone-type dielectric elastomer. We also combined two cone-type dielectric elastomer generators and stacked the dielectric elastomer membranes in order to increase the amount of energy. Also we calculated the required force necessary for compressing the membranes in stacking different layers. Finally we found out that cone-type dielectric elastomer generator with membrane stacking to 1mm in two power generation modes can respectively generate 0.142W and 0.07W every step.

This thesis describes a new class of clock generator structures which are based on a set of averaging amplifiers and an averaging ring resistor. These structures can improve the nonlinearity caused by mismatches between successive delay elements, and utilizing voltage-mode phase interpolation, they can produce more output phases and more precise delays with sub-gate delay resolution. The most important is that this novel thchnique can be applied to all clock generator composed of delay elements. In order to achieve optimum averaging effect, the averaging amplifiers must have very high output impedances. This thesis presents a type of averaging amplifier design for approaching high output impedances by using cross-coupled and diode-connected transistor loads. When load devices are in differential mode, the negative conductance cancels the positive, thus presenting high output impedances. Based on the system concepts and circuit architectures proposed in this thesis, an experimental high precision multi-phase precise delay generator prototype was designed and fabricated in a 0.35-um logic CMOS technology. Total power consumption is 74.25 mW from a single 3.3 V supply, and the chip area is 1 mm^2. From the simulation results, the prototype achieves a delay resolution of 31.25ps and 256 ( 8-bit ) output phases while operating at 125 MHz. Furthermore, this thesis uses Matlab to simulate the feasibilities of the timing recovery circuit consisting of this precise delay generator prototype. Due to its 8-bit digital phase select control, it can offer great flexibility in the implementation of digital timing recovery algorithms without using DAC.

Although it began as a military application dating from the 1960s, UWB has been redefined as a high data rate, short-range technology that specifically addresses emerging applications in the consumer electronics, personal computing and mobile device markets. Under the auspices of the MultiBand OFDM Alliance (MBOA), personal computers and mobile devices have endorsed an approach called MultiBand Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) as the UWB solution. The MBOA UWB mode-1 system divides the 3.1-to-4.7-GHz spectrum into three sub-bands. The system requires band-switching time to be less than 9.5 ns. The traditional solution to synthesize the three carrier frequencies are employing single-sideband (SSB) mixing architecture. However, SSB mixing suffers from large carrier leakage and unwanted sideband due to the circuit mismatches. In this thesis, a Miller divider based clock generator is proposed to generate the three carrier frequencies of the MBOA-UWB mode-1 system while achieving less than 9.5-ns frequency settling time. The proposed approach adds a feedback mixer in the traditional Miller divider structure and the desired output frequency is determined by the band-pass filter. A simple method is also introduced to estimate the frequency-switching time by transforming the circuit into a frequency-domain equivalent model. For saving chip area, active inductors are used in the circuit design and an optimization technique is also presented to optimize the proposed active inductor with minimum power consumption. The proposed concepts are demonstrated in a 0.18-μm CMOS technology.
