Abstract:
ABSTRACT Expression of the two Bacillus subtilis genes encoding l-asparaginase is controlled by independent regulatory factors. The ansZ gene (formerly yccC) was shown by mutational analysis to encode a functional l-asparaginase, the expression of which is activated during nitrogen-limited growth by the TnrA transcription factor. Gel mobility shift and DNase I footprinting experiments indicate that TnrA regulates ansZ expression by binding to a DNA site located upstream of the ansZ promoter. The expression of the ansA gene, which encodes the second l-asparaginase, was found to be induced by asparagine. The ansA repressor, AnsR, was shown to negatively regulate its own expression.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this study, composite materials consisting in HKUST-1 [Cu3(BTC)2] (BTC: benzene 1, 3, 5-tricarboxylate) and an Indonesian activated natural zeolite (ANZ) from Klaten, Central Java, were successfully prepared and characterized. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the combination of these two materials on the characteristics of the composite as well as to determine its CO2 gas adsorption ability. The composite HKUST-1-ANZ (ANZ@HKUST-1) was synthesized in two different techniques, i.e., solvothermal and sonication method. The obtained materials exhibited X-ray diffractogram characteristics of both HKUST-1 and ANZ. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis showed a combination of peaks from HKUST-1 and ANZ, i.e. peaks assigned to carboxylate groups and bonds between Cu-O from HKUST-1, as well as N-H bending and SiO from ANZ. The addition of ANZ to HKUST-1 decreased its surface area and nitrogen sorption capacity. Application of the composites as CO2 capture materials shows their CO2 adsorption capacity is increased (ca. 12%) comparing to the initial materials.

Abstract:
Changes of bone during pregnancy and during lactation evaluated by bone mineral density (BMD) may have implications for risk of osteoporosis and fractures. We studied BMD in women of differing ages, parity, and lactation histories immediately postpartum for BMD,T-scores, andZ-scores. Institutional Review Board approval was received. All women while still in hospital postpartum were asked to participate. BMD was performed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) machine at femoral neck (FN) and lumbar spine (LS) by a single technician. Of 132 participants, 73 (55.3%) were ≤30 years; 27 (20.5%) were primiparous; 36 (27.3%) were grand multiparous; 35 (26.5%) never breast fed. Mean FNT-scores andZ-scores were higher than respective mean LS scores, but all means were within the normal limits. Mean LST-scores andZ-scores were highest in the grand multiparas. There were only 2 (1.5%) outliers with lowZ-scores. We conclude that, in a large cohort of Israeli women with BMD parameters assessed by DXA within two days postpartum, meanT-scores andZ-scores at both the LS and FN were within normal limits regardless of age (20–46 years), parity (1–13 viable births), and history of either no or prolonged months of lactation (up to 11.25 years).

Abstract:
Zeolites impregnated with Ni were successfully synthesized through wet impregnation using activated natural zeolites (ANZs) and the nickel nitrate hexahydrate (Ni(NO3)2·6H2O) precursor at different concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3% (w/w) (hereafter referred to as ANZ/Ni 1%, ANZ/Ni 2%, and ANZ/Ni 3%). The synthesized products were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), surface area analyzer (SAA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), total acidity measurements by employing ammonia adsorption and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) theory. The obtained catalysts were employed in the hydrocracking of waste cooking oils, and the formed products were analyzed through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The FTIR results indicated that ANZs impregnated with Ni can increase zeolite acidity. The test results of total acidity revealed that 3% ANZ/Ni catalyst exhibited the maximum total acidity of 3.70 mmol/g. XRD diffractogram confirmed the successful impregnation of Ni into ANZs, which was indicated by the characteristic diffraction peaks appearing at 2θ of 9.75º, 13.41º, 19.56º, 22.25º, 25.61º, 27.66º and 31.91º. SEM analysis indicated that the particle size of zeolite catalysts was non-uniform, but these catalysts exhibited a highly uniform surface after they were activated. Moreover, the ANZ catalysts impregnated with different concentrations of Ni exhibited a highly uniform particle size. The ANZ/Ni 3% catalyst had small uniform particle. The BET results revealed that the ANZ/Ni 2% catalyst exhibited the maximum pore volume and surface area and relatively smaller radii of pores. GC-MS was employed to determine liquid products, and its results showed that the ANZ/Ni 3% catalyst had the maximum amount of liquid products of 18%.

Abstract:
17074 Background: ACORD is a 1-week, intensive educational workshop designed to increase skills of junior cancer clinical researchers from the Asia Pacific region. Participants come from region of diverse cultures, languages and resources. Methods: We surveyed participants 1 year after the workshop to determine its impact on their research output. Participants were grouped into those from: Australia or New Zealand (ANZ), developed Asian countries (Japan, Korea, Taiwan), and developing Asian countries (India, China, Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia). Results: The response rate was higher from developed Asia (10/10, 100%), than ANZ (44/59, 75%) and developing Asia (7/12, 58%). The proportion of respondents spending more than half of their time in research was higher in ANZ (21%), than developing Asia (14%) or developed Asia (10%). The workshop was rated very valuable by more respondents from developing Asia (71%) than from ANZ (59%) and developed Asia (60%). More than half of respondents had submitted their ACORD protocol to an IRB. Progress activating protocols was reported more frequently by respondents from developing Asia (86%) than developed Asia (70%) and ANZ (59%). Involvement in other research was also reported more frequently by respondents from developing Asia (100%) than ANZ (82%) or developed Asia (80%). The most frequently reported barriers to progressing research were: other work commitments (71% for developing Asia, 44% for ANZ, 30% for developed Asia) and lack of funding (71% for developing Asia, 39% for ANZ, and 33% for developed Asia). Continuing contact with faculty and participants was reported more frequently by respondents from ANZ (59%), than developed Asia (43%) or developing Asia (30%). Conclusions: Respondents were highly satisfied with the workshop, perceiving positive effects on their research skills and careers. Participants from developing countries were more likely to take their protocols forward, despite reporting greater barriers to progress, and less continuing contact with faculty and participants. Protected time and support for researchers are worth considering for developing countries wanting to improve their research output. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
ARLIS/ANZ Art Libraries Society, Australia New Zealand was formed in August 1976. Since then, ARLIS/ANZ has arranged a number of seminars and workshops for art librarians in both countries; found finance to bring three noted art librarians to the antipodes to give talks and workshops which stimulated both members and other interested professionals; and has published thirteen issues of ARLIS/ANZ News. ARLIS has served as a valuable support for art librarians working in isolation, at great distance from international centres of publishing and art activity. Distance between ARLIS/ANZ centres led to the formation of local interest groups and cooperation between art libraries in art galleries and museums, universities, schools of art, and national resource libraries.

Abstract:
Since the inception of ARLIS/ANZ, Australia and New Zealand have increasingly seen themselves as part of the Asia-Pacific region rather than as a distant outpost of Britain. The impact of post-War European immigrants from countries other than Britain has been felt and immigration from the Asia-Pacific region is now equally important. These developments have contributed to a confident, diverse culture, within which indigenous art has gained greater recognition. Art librarians are benefiting from worldwide electronic communications which have equally helped overcome the ‘tyranny of distance’ within the region itself. Thus, ARLISANZ-L now complements ARLIS/ANZ News. Because of the vast distance between members, ARLIS/ANZ bases its entire central executive within a single local chapter for two years at a time. Local chapters are flourishing, most particularly around major centres. Dispersal of members is also overcome by the all-important annual conferences and workshops. Like other ARLIS groups, ARLIS/ANZ engages in advocacy on behalf of art libraries and art librarians. A major concern for ARLIS/ANZ remains the documentation of the art of Australia and New Zealand both as a result of scholarship and publishing from within the region, and in major international bibliographies and indexes.

Abstract:
This is a descriptive study of the impact that Aniz, Incorporated has had on the battle against HIV/AIDS in the inner city of Atlanta, Georgia. It examines the relationships among an individual’s drug of choice and a person’s failure to protect him or herself from the disease; an individual’s mode of infection and a person’s income level; an individual’s type of insurance and a patient’s T-cell count. The results of the study suggest that there is no statistically significant relationship between a drug of choice and a person’s failure to protect him or herself, there is also no statistically significant relationship between an individual’s mode of infection and a person’s individual income, but there is a statistically significant relationship among types of insurance and an individual’s T-cell count. These findings were based on a .05 level of probability between the variables. This study and others like it will assist Aniz, Incorporated and could assist other nongovernmental agencies to better target their services and programs to better meet the needs of the demographic groups being served.

Abstract:
The prevalence of face to face invigilated exams in Business Schools across Australia and New Zealand (indeed around the world) needed to be reconsidered quickly during the recent COVID-19 pandemic crisis. With teaching and learning activities moving to online mode due to social distancing requirements, the need to consider technology enabled assessments and how they could be efficiently and effectively implemented became a crucial focus of universities in early 2020, affecting staff and students alike. This paper looks at the experiences of a group of academics and academic developers from five ANZ Business Schools and the lessons that they learnt from these experiences.
