Abstract:
A Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is a monitoring device, which serves in checking the power system condition by measuring voltage and current phasors along with frequency at a particular node. The basic structure of PMU consists of Synchronization Unit, Measurement Unit and Data Transmission Unit. The Measurement Unit has three components: Anti-aliasing filters, Analog-to-Digital Converter and Phasor measurement Unit/ Processor. An anti-aliasing filter ensures that all the analog signals have the same phase shift and attenuation thus assuring that the phase angle differences and relative magnitudes of the different signals are unchanged. Anti-aliasing filters made up of an analog front end and a digital decimation filter are far more stable as far as aging and temperature variations are concerned. IEEE C37.118 standard stipulates that it is mandatory to use the filter for avoiding any aliasing errors. Out of various analog filters, the Butterworth has been preferred due to its flat response in pass-band as compared to other filters. In this work, it is attempted to design anti-aliasing filters to be used in PMUs. The design problem is formulated as an optimization task that is solved using the Taguchi method. The results show better performance in terms characteristics compared to the conventional filters. The designed filters may be employed as building blocks in modern PMUs.

Abstract:
Anti-aliasing filter is widely used in the field of communication and the information collecting system. Generally, anti-aliasing filter is consisted with a low-pass filter, which possesses rapid roll-off rate. In order to ensure that there will be a very smooth amplitude frequency characteristic, the high order Butterworth low-pass filter is adopted to work as anti-aliasing filter. As we know, to design this kind of high order low-pass filter will involve large amount of manual calculation. In order to reduce the manual calculation job, which is meaningless and reduplicated, in this paper, a MATLAB scripts is proposed to establish a model of computer aided design for anti-aliasing filter. To use this MATLAB scripts, the value of parameter for the filter can be easily got according to the design specification.

Abstract:
Anti-aliasing plays a decisive role in enhancing immersion experience in games and 3D visualization fields. In general, hardware anti-aliasing is not directly compatible with deferred shading. It is challenging to detect geometry edges accurately from sub-pixel to alleviate artifacts. In this paper, we propose an anti-aliasing algorithm of the #-filter anti-aliasing based on sub-pixel continuous edges. It can solve the geometry edges aliasing and the flicker problem in deferred shading. First, the geometry scene with multi-sampling anti-aliasing (MSAA) is rendered to a G-Buffer designed elaborately. Second, the geometry edges are detected on the sub-pixel-level. We mainly take advantage of the Chebyshev inequality to adaptively determine the edges from the probability statistic and the view frustum location. Third, the continuous geometry edges are reconstructed by a #-filter method. Finally, the edge pixels are shaded adaptively. The implementation demonstrates that our algorithm is efficient and scalable for generating high-quality anti-aliasing geometry and reducing shading calculation overhead.

Abstract:
A linear acceleration sensor integrated into an inertial measurement unit and its signal processing technology are presented in this paper. Based on the characteristics of the acceleration sensor, before analog-to-digital conversion, a design method for optimizing and conditioning the output signal in levels of frequency with the high-order anti-aliasing Cauer filter is proposed. Compared with the previously published papers, here we not only focus on the anti-aliasing filtering effect under a single channel, but also pay more attention to the anti-aliasing filtering effect with more data to the same type of channels with the same cut-off frequency and different types of channels with different cut-off frequencies. Similar to other kinds of filters, this paper points out that the high-order anti-aliasing Cauer filter also has its inherent delay characteristic. And this paper also reveals the qualitative relationship between frequency and time delay in different testing environments by using various delay test data. Compared with the previously published papers, through the simple solution processing with the true attitude data, this paper further estimates the error of simple attitude signal processing.

Abstract The discrete time signal processing requires an anti-aliasing filter at the input and a reconstruction filter at output. Some filters of biquads structure are characterized by a decreasing of the attenuation at high frequencies, caused by the final value of the output resistance of the operational amplifier. In this paper we discuss a design of combined BP filter without mentioned decrease. The proposed filter structure was verified by SPICE simulation.

Abstract:
A novel octave or fractional octave filter design method is presented here. In this method, a cascaded IIR filter is applied to overcome the Finite Word-Length Effect. Compared with the traditional octave filter bank, this method does not require 1/2 extraction or a corresponding anti-aliasing filter. The filter frequency response is improved. Filter attenuation values conform to the standard IEC1260-1995 defined class 0 filters. Simulation and experimental studies shows that the filter bank obtains a more accurate result than does the traditional method, especially in the low-frequency part. The 1/3 octave filter bank can analyze speech signals effectively.

Abstract:
One of the most important operating procedures after the installation of a superconducting gravimeter (SG) is its calibration. The calibration process can identify and evaluate possible time variability in the scale factor and in the hardware anti-aliasing filter response. The SG installed in Cantley, Canada is calibrated using two absolute gravimeters and the data are analysed in the time and frequency domains to estimate the SG scale factor. In the time domain, we use the weighted linear regression method whereas in the frequency domain we use the least squares response method. Rigorous statistical procedures are applied to define data disturbances, outliers, and realistic data noise levels. Using data from JILA-2 and FG5-236 separately, the scale factor is estimated in the time and frequency domains as−78.374±0.012 μGal/V and−78.403±0.075 μGal/V, respectively. The relative accuracy in the time domain is 0.015%. We cannot identify any significant periodicity in the scale factor. The hardware anti-aliasing filter response is tested by injecting known waves into the control electronics of the system. Results show that the anti-aliasing filter response is stable and conforms to the global geodynamics project standards.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate time-domain errors occurring in the two extreme discrete-time differentiation modes of band-unlimited signals: in the full-band processing mode and in the processing mode with ideal anti-aliasing filtering (AAF) with a cut-off at the Nyquist frequency. We disclosed that regardless sampling frequency the error from AAF is greater than the aliasing error. It is found that type IV differentiators designed by three commonly known digital filter design methods approximately equally process the high frequency portion of the signal above the Nyquist frequency with nearly equal aliasing errors having a weak dependence on differentiator length. In contrast, the differentiators very differently compute the derivatives of the low frequency portion bellow the Nyquist frequency providing rather dissimilar the common differentiation accuracy. The results show that the differentiators derived by using maximal linearity constraints are more accurate than those designed by the Parks-McClellan algorithm and the impulse response truncation method.

Abstract:
Real-time geometric specular anti-aliasing is required when using a low number of pixel samples and high-frequency specular lobes. Several methods have been proposed for mono-lobe bidirectional reflection distribution functions (BRDFs), but none for multi-lobe BRDFs, e.g., a glinty BRDF. We present the first method for real-time geometric glint anti-aliasing (GGAA). It eliminates most of the inconsistent appearing and disappearing of glints on surfaces with significant curvatures during animations. The technique uses the glinty BRDF of Chermain et al. [2020] and leverages hardware GPU-filtering of textures to filter slope distributions on the fly. We also improve this glinty BRDF by adding a correlation factor of slope. This BRDF parameter allows convergence to normal distribution functions that are not aligned on the surface's axes. Above all, this parameter makes glint rendering compatible with normal map filtering using LEAN mapping. Using GGAA increases the rendering time from 0.6 % to 4.2 % and it requires 1/3 more memory due to MIP mapping of tabulated slope distributions. The results are compared with references using a thousand samples per pixel.

Abstract This paper picks up the need for a wide range programmable corner frequency for anti-aliasing and antiimaging filters in on-chip impedance spectroscopy and sensor signal readout circuitry with self-X properties (selfdiagnosing/healing) for industry 4.0 applications. A fourthorder wide tunable range MOSFET-C low pass filter is designed by using XFAB 0.35 μm CMOS technology and Cadence design tools. The proposed circuit is based on fully differential Sallen-Key architecture with Butterworth approximation. It covers a frequency range from 30 Hz up to 7 MHz. Tunability is achieved using a potentially high resistance and linearized configurable MOS resistor to control the filter pole frequency. The configurable elements in the circuit serve as tuning knobs to be controlled by machine learning. The physical design area is 0.39mm2.

Contourlet transform is better in direction information representation than wavelet transform which has been studied in retrieval systems and has been shown that it is superior to wavelet ones at retrieval rate. In order to improve the retrieval rate further, an anti-aliasing contourlet-S transform based texture image retrieval system was proposed. In this system, the contourlet transform was constructed by anti-aliasing non-subsampled Laplacian pyramid cascaded by critical sub-sampled directional filter banks, sub-bands energy and standard deviations in contourlet domain are cascaded to form feature vectors, and the similarity metric used here is Canberra distance. Experimental results show that contourlet-S transform based image retrieval system is superior to those of the original contourlet transform, and non-subsampled contourlet system under the same system structure with almost same dimension of feature vectors, retrieval time and memory needed; and contourlet decomposition structure parameters can make significant effects on retrieval rates, especially scale number. To improve the retrieval rate of this system, kurtosis in each sub-band coefficients can be incorporated in features at the cost of some higher dimension of feature vectors.

Abstract:
Abstract Electroencephalography (EEG) is a sensitive and weak biosignal that varies from person to person. It is easily affected by noise and artifacts. Hence, maintaining the signal integrity to design an EEG acquisition system is crucial. This article proposes an analog design for acquiring EEG signals. The proposed design consists of eight blocks: (1) a radio-frequency interference filter and electro-static discharge protection, (2) a preamplifier and second-order high-pass filter with feedback topology and an unblocking mechanism, (3) a driven right leg circuit, (4) two-stage main and variable amplifiers, (5) an eight-order anti-aliasing filter, (6) a six-order 50-Hz notch filter (optional), (7) an opto-isolator circuit, and (8) an isolated power supply. The maximum gain of the design is approximately 94 dB, and its bandwidth ranges from approximately 0.18 to 120 Hz. The depth of the 50-Hz notch filter is −35 dB. Using this filter is optional because it causes EEG integrity problems in frequencies ranging from 40 to 60 Hz.

Abstract. Up to now, there exist two completely different approaches for the synthesis of cascaded CT Sigma-Delta modulators. While the first method is based on a DT prototype and thus on the application of a DT-to-CT transformation, the second one is entirely performed in the CT domain. In this contribution, the method of lifting will be applied to overcome the disadvantages afflicted with the first method (e.g. less ideal anti-aliasing filter performance, increased circuit complexity) and to establish a time efficient DT simulation model for the second method. Thereby, optimal modulator coefficients as well as optimal digital cancellation filters for an arbitrary cascaded CT modulator can be simulated in an efficient and rapid manner. For illustrative purposes, the complete synthesis procedure is demonstrated by the example of a 2-1-1 cascaded CT modulator.

Abstract:
The temperature in fiber drawing is one of the key factors influencing fiber’s performance. To the temperature measurement and control problem, the four-wire lead configuration of Pt100 with current excitation was adopted, the signal conditioning circuit includes constant current source, instrumentation amplifier and anti-aliasing filter. The computer collected signals from the conditioning circuit and output control signals by data acquisition card PCI-6221M. The software program was based on LabVIEW, the function relationship between resistance and temperature based on international thermometric scale and the digital filter were applied to calculate temperature. The improved PID control algorithm and the PWM technique were used to realize the temperature control. The experiment results show that the deviation is 0.71°C when the average temperature of the furnace center is 170.25 °C, which satisfies the design requirements.

Abstract:
In order to solve the signal processing problems appeared in conventional engine control systems, the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) was used for frequency domain analysis, on this basis, it’s possible to make suggestions as to the selection of real-time sampling frequency and sensor signal averaging strategies as well as analog/digital anti-aliasing filter parameters in engine control system. To describe pumping fluctuations existing in model-based engine control system for a coal-bed engine, the pumping fluctuation models of air and fuel gas mass flow rate in intake manifold during steady-state operations were established based on the result of signal frequency domain analysis, thus it’s possible to optimize the conventional Mean Value Engine Model.

Abstract:
Hidden Markov models are widely used to describe single channel currents from patch-clamp experiments. The inevitable anti-aliasing filter limits the time resolution of the measurements and therefore the standard hidden Markov model is not adequate anymore. The notion of time-interval omission has been introduced where brief events are not detected. The developed, exact solutions to this problem do not take into account that the measured intervals are limited by the sampling time. In this case the dead-time that specifies the minimal detectable interval length is not defined unambiguously. We show that a wrong choice of the dead-time leads to considerably biased estimates and present the appropriate equations to describe sampled data.

Abstract:
A hybrid continuous-time (CT)/discrete-time (DT) multi-stage noise-shaping (MASH) ΣΔ modulator architecture is presented. The double-sampling technique is employed in the DT second stage modulator. A flat and a unity signal transfer functions (STFs) are used in the first and second stage modulators, respectively, to make the modulator robust to nonlinearities of the analog circuitry and well suited for low-voltage applications without influencing the inherent anti-aliasing behavior of the first stage CT modulator. Unlike the conventional MASH architecture, this structure is insensitive to the amplifier limited DC gain of CT stage and avoids the need of compensation for finite gain-bandwidth induced error in CT loop filter. Behavioral simulations confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme over existing cascaded topologies.

Abstract:
The shafting torsional vibration mode of generator sets reflects dynamic process of the power grid. This paper proposes a novel real-time algorithm for shafting torsional vibration mode decomposition of generator sets, which has excellent time-frequency resolution. The algorithm realizes the signal frequency resolution filtering based on classic infinite impulse response (IIR) filtering. At the same time, the inertia of the narrow-band filtering algorithm is eliminated through multi-period rotation IIR filtering and the time-frequency dynamic resolution of the modal decomposition is realized. PSCAD-based simulation verifies that the algorithm has the frequency anti-aliasing performance, and can fully reserve the time-frequency variation characteristics and can realize the multi-mode real-time decomposition of the torsional vibration perfectly. The algorithm can also be used for the time-frequency analysis in other fields.

Abstract:
<p>This paper presents the design and simulation results of a novel mixed baseband stage for a frequency band decomposition (FBD) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in a multistandard receiver. The proposed FBD-based ADC architecture is flexible with programmable parallel branches composed of discrete time (DT) 4th order single-bit Sigma-Delta modulators. The mixed baseband architecture uses a single non-programmable anti-aliasing filter (AAF) avoiding the use of an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit. System level analysis proved that the proposed FBD architecture satisfies design specifications of the software defined radio (SDR) receiver. In this paper, the authors focus on the Butterworth AAF filter design for a multistandard receiver. Besides, theoretical analysis of the reconstruction stage for UMTS test case is discussed. It leads to a complicated system of equations and high digital filter orders. To reduce the digital reconstruction stage complexity, the authors propose an optimized digital reconstruction stage architecture design. The demodulation-based digital reconstruction stage using two decimation stages has been implemented using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Technical choices and performances are discussed. The computed signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the MATLAB/SIMULINK FBD ADC model is equal to at least 75 dB which satisfies the dynamic range required for UMTS signals. Next to hardware implementation with quantized filters coefficients, the authors implemented their proposition in VHDL in a SysGen environment. The measured SNR of the hardware implementation is equal to 74.08 dB which satisfies the required dynamic range of UMTS signals.</p>

Abstract:
This paper describes an analysis of multi-stage and multi-rate IIR switched capacitor (SC) decimators using an interactive switched capacitor multi-rate compiler (ISCMRATE). Motivated by the experimental observations, the purpose of this paper is to explore a portion of characteristics for the multi-stage IIR SC decimators, with their implications in the context of a complete IIR SC filter. To overcome the limitations of conventional multi-stage IIR SC decimators, a novel solution has been introduced for the implementation of a multi-stage IIR SC circuit. Based on the statistical approach of the compiler, we provide the comparative analysis for different IIR SC decimators, including total capacitor area, capacitance spread and arbitrary anti-aliasing amplitude responses with a decimating factor in single and multi-stage building blocks. Examples are given to illustrate the practical feasibility of this compiler.

Abstract:
A system based on virtual instrument was set up to test and analyze the pressure pulsation in centrifugal pump. It had adjustable sampling time length and frequency which can avoid the disadvantages of data loss and redundancy caused by fixed sampling parameters. A signal preprocessing toolkit compiled by LabVIEW was set up, which can anti the aliasing of the signal by use of the low pass filter, decrease the noise in the concerned frequency by the wavelet de-noising and efficiently reduce the error caused by test system. Meanwhile, the signal’s frequency characteristic could be analyzed in this system automatic, and the detail of the frequency characteristic could be captured by zoom FFT. All of the toolkits could be used as an automatic real-time system. The feasibility of this system has already been evaluated in a centrifugal pump system, and it is testified that this system can realize and analyze the pressure pulsation automatically.

Abstract:
Nowadays, digital front-end devices are widely used in large number of fields such as electronic appliances. Signals must be presented in an appropriate format, for example, the original analog signals must be converted into digital formats that can be recognized and used by digital equipment. In this paper, the random sampling technique is implemented by original design of a Pseudorandom Signal Sampler circuit for controlling ADC to relax constraints of receiver circuits supporting multiband signal processing. This new idea of using non-uniform sampling technique for multiband signals sampling allows the main advantage of suppressing spectral aliases at integer multiples of sampling frequency produced by conventional uniform sampling technique. This approach could reduce the constraints on the anti-aliasing filter, relax the automatic gain control dynamic range, and decrease the ADC dynamic power consumption. Experiments show that this approach achieve good performance and it could be implemented in FPGA in signal processing successfully.
