Abstract:
A Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is a monitoring device, which serves in checking the power system condition by measuring voltage and current phasors along with frequency at a particular node. The basic structure of PMU consists of Synchronization Unit, Measurement Unit and Data Transmission Unit. The Measurement Unit has three components: Anti-aliasing filters, Analog-to-Digital Converter and Phasor measurement Unit/ Processor. An anti-aliasing filter ensures that all the analog signals have the same phase shift and attenuation thus assuring that the phase angle differences and relative magnitudes of the different signals are unchanged. Anti-aliasing filters made up of an analog front end and a digital decimation filter are far more stable as far as aging and temperature variations are concerned. IEEE C37.118 standard stipulates that it is mandatory to use the filter for avoiding any aliasing errors. Out of various analog filters, the Butterworth has been preferred due to its flat response in pass-band as compared to other filters. In this work, it is attempted to design anti-aliasing filters to be used in PMUs. The design problem is formulated as an optimization task that is solved using the Taguchi method. The results show better performance in terms characteristics compared to the conventional filters. The designed filters may be employed as building blocks in modern PMUs.

Abstract:
Anti-aliasing filter is widely used in the field of communication and the information collecting system. Generally, anti-aliasing filter is consisted with a low-pass filter, which possesses rapid roll-off rate. In order to ensure that there will be a very smooth amplitude frequency characteristic, the high order Butterworth low-pass filter is adopted to work as anti-aliasing filter. As we know, to design this kind of high order low-pass filter will involve large amount of manual calculation. In order to reduce the manual calculation job, which is meaningless and reduplicated, in this paper, a MATLAB scripts is proposed to establish a model of computer aided design for anti-aliasing filter. To use this MATLAB scripts, the value of parameter for the filter can be easily got according to the design specification.

Abstract:
Anti-aliasing plays a decisive role in enhancing immersion experience in games and 3D visualization fields. In general, hardware anti-aliasing is not directly compatible with deferred shading. It is challenging to detect geometry edges accurately from sub-pixel to alleviate artifacts. In this paper, we propose an anti-aliasing algorithm of the #-filter anti-aliasing based on sub-pixel continuous edges. It can solve the geometry edges aliasing and the flicker problem in deferred shading. First, the geometry scene with multi-sampling anti-aliasing (MSAA) is rendered to a G-Buffer designed elaborately. Second, the geometry edges are detected on the sub-pixel-level. We mainly take advantage of the Chebyshev inequality to adaptively determine the edges from the probability statistic and the view frustum location. Third, the continuous geometry edges are reconstructed by a #-filter method. Finally, the edge pixels are shaded adaptively. The implementation demonstrates that our algorithm is efficient and scalable for generating high-quality anti-aliasing geometry and reducing shading calculation overhead.

Abstract:
A linear acceleration sensor integrated into an inertial measurement unit and its signal processing technology are presented in this paper. Based on the characteristics of the acceleration sensor, before analog-to-digital conversion, a design method for optimizing and conditioning the output signal in levels of frequency with the high-order anti-aliasing Cauer filter is proposed. Compared with the previously published papers, here we not only focus on the anti-aliasing filtering effect under a single channel, but also pay more attention to the anti-aliasing filtering effect with more data to the same type of channels with the same cut-off frequency and different types of channels with different cut-off frequencies. Similar to other kinds of filters, this paper points out that the high-order anti-aliasing Cauer filter also has its inherent delay characteristic. And this paper also reveals the qualitative relationship between frequency and time delay in different testing environments by using various delay test data. Compared with the previously published papers, through the simple solution processing with the true attitude data, this paper further estimates the error of simple attitude signal processing.

Abstract The discrete time signal processing requires an anti-aliasing filter at the input and a reconstruction filter at output. Some filters of biquads structure are characterized by a decreasing of the attenuation at high frequencies, caused by the final value of the output resistance of the operational amplifier. In this paper we discuss a design of combined BP filter without mentioned decrease. The proposed filter structure was verified by SPICE simulation.

Abstract:
A novel octave or fractional octave filter design method is presented here. In this method, a cascaded IIR filter is applied to overcome the Finite Word-Length Effect. Compared with the traditional octave filter bank, this method does not require 1/2 extraction or a corresponding anti-aliasing filter. The filter frequency response is improved. Filter attenuation values conform to the standard IEC1260-1995 defined class 0 filters. Simulation and experimental studies shows that the filter bank obtains a more accurate result than does the traditional method, especially in the low-frequency part. The 1/3 octave filter bank can analyze speech signals effectively.

In this paper we explore the limits of data rate or sample rate reduction that can be accomplished by sharp cutoff band limiting filters in a PCM data acquisition system. The results with practical analog filtering techniques are compared with those possible with digital filtering techniques. A typical 2:1 reduction in telemetry bit rate is shown to be practical using digital vs analog techniques. The resultant sample rates as low as 2.5 times the filter cutoff frequency has implications in the reconstruction algorithms which are also discussed. It is shown that by using practical and appropriate interpolation techniques or sample rate multiplication processes the data fidelity can be preserved. Thus the data user is assured that no information is being lost.

Abstract:
An anti-aliasing filter that incorporates a sampler is proposed. Its architecture is inspired by the anti-aliasing filtering property of continuous-time (CT) delta-sigma (DS) modulators. However, contrary to CT DS modulators, the proposed sampling anti-aliasing filter is not sensitive to clock jitter. Furthermore, its key characteristics include: 1) high suppression of aliases - for example, compared to a Butterworth filter of the same order - owing to its notches at multiples of the sampling frequency; 2) high-pass shaping of sampling errors, similar to the shaping of quantization noise in DS modulators; and 3) its alias suppression is preserved over a broad range of sampling frequencies, thereby enabling its use as a general-purpose intellectual property (IP) block. Thus, the proposed sampling anti-aliasing filter is particularly attractive at the input of noise-shaping analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), such as discrete-time (DT) DS ADCs. Its performance advantages are derived theoretically and confirmed through simulations.

The need for precise gain and phase matching in multi-channel data sampling systems can result in very strict design requirements for presample or anti-aliasing filters. The traditional use of active RC-type filters is expensive, especially when performance requirements are tight and when operation over a wide environmental temperature range is required. New Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques have provided an opportunity for cost reduction and/or performance improvements in these types of applications. This paper summarizes the results of an evaluation of various digital filter types used as matched presample filters in data sampling systems.

The drive towards higher accuracy and sampling rates has raised the bar for modern FTI signal conditioning. This paper focuses on the issue of anti-alias filtering. Today's 16-bit (and greater resolution) ADC’s, coupled with the drive for optimum sampling rates, means that filters have to be more accurate and yet more flexible than ever before. However, in order to take full advantage of these advances, it is important to understand the trade-offs involved and to correctly specify the system filtering requirements. Trade-offs focus on: • Analog vs. Digital signal conditioning • FIR vs. IIR Digital Filters • Signal bandwidth vs. Sampling rate • Coherency issues such as filter phase distortion vs. delay This paper will discuss each of these aspects. In particular, it will focus on some of the advantages of digital filtering various analog filter techniques. This paper will also look at some ideas for specifying filter cut-off and characteristics.

In this thesis, a switched-capacitor (SC) lowpass filter dedicated to high speed ADC applications is proposed. The six-order elliptic filter is selected to reduce the number of operational amplifiers (opamps) and power consumption. The cascade architecture is adopted which has low sensitivity to component tolerances and is efficient in its use of high-order filter circuits. The non-ideal factors within a SC filter are analyzed and modeled using SWITCAP in prior to the transistor-level design. Techniques such as zeros/poles pairing and ordering, dynamic range scaling and optimal capacitance assignment are adopted in the filter design. Simulation results show the overall filter achieves a gain of 0 dB in the passband within 4.72 MHz, with -1.31 dB of maximum passband ripple. The image rejection is under -53 dB at 8 MHz. The lowpass filter is designed with the TSMC 0.35-μm 2P4M process, and occupies an area of approximately 1.8 mm × 2.1 mm.

The first topic of this thesis is a novel NTSC video sync separator (NSS) with a high-PSR (power supply rejection) bias generation circuitry (BGC) comprising a temperature compensation circuitry. The proposed BGC is composed of step-down regulators and a bandgap-based bias with cascode current control. The clamping voltages required for sync separation from an NTSC signal are generated. The second topic is a temperature-compensated 6th order transconductance-C (Gm-C) anti-aliasing filter (AAF) with digitally tunable bandwidth which can be applied in the analog front-end circuit of DVB-T receivers. The proposed AAF is controlled by digital signals to provide three different baseband bandwidth (6, 7, 8 MHz) selection. A regulator with a bandgap circuitry supplies a stable voltage to suppress the variations of power and temperature. Moreover, a temperature -compensated circuitry is used to neutralize bandwidth drifting caused by the temperature variation. The bandwidth accuracy of the proposed design verified by HSPICE post-layout simulations is better than 3.28% at every PVT (process, supply voltage, temperature) corner. It is adequate for the DVB-T receivers’ baseband processing.
