Abstract:
This article is a summary of the symposium on the Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods ('CISG') in 2005, held in Wellington. The aim of the symposium was to re-familiarise New Zealand's legal community with a part of contract law which seems to have been forgotten or, even worse, which had never gotten into the conscience of New Zealand's legal profession. The first part of the symposium involved the makeup of the CISG and concerns regarding potential barriers to international change. However, the author argues that the symposium papers make clear New Zealand businesses and lawyers should not need to be afraid to choose CISG for their international contracts. The second part of the symposium covered the practical application of the CISG in the day to day business of a lawyer advising his/her client. The author concludes that the seminar papers show New Zealand businesses can only gain from using the CISG as their law for international commercial contracts.

Stabler, Jane. "Byron and Anniversaries." Byron Journal 52, no. 1 (June 2024): 3–16. http://dx.doi.org/10.3828/bj.2024.4.

Abstract:
Jonathon Shears once remarked that Byron was ‘always attentive to anniversaries’. This essay will focus on some patterns we might discern in Byron’s autobiographical prose, with glancing comparative analysis of the way he treats anniversaries in verse. Byron’s anniversaries are linked with his apprehension of what the later nineteenth century called ‘watershed’ moments. Historical turning points are used to focalize his dramas (for example, Manfred’s knowledge that his days are numbered or Marino Faliero waiting for the first toll from St Mark’s), but they also feature in the narrative poems where Byron displays a fascination with the way that characters in crucial situations cast backward glances over life while they look ahead into the unknown.

Abstract:
Corporate anniversaries are mostly used as a promotional event to increase the value of corporate identity of firms, business enterprises or their brands. They are also used to create investment trust or strengthen the relations between, employees and customers. What makes corporate anniversaries meaningful is the importance of their moral value of continuity. Signs that are designed to identify these moral values and indicate the anniversaries can be defined as “anniversary emblems.” The design and uniqueness of these emblems are important in the means of being remarkable and memorable. Thus creative and unique results can be achieved by converting the numbers of anniversaries into expressive signs. This article focuses on existing design approaches and examples of anniversary emblem designs.

Abstract:
It sometimes seems that Germany is a country perpetually caught in the past. There are so many anniversaries that some sort of tracker is necessary to remember them all. Commemorations in 2019 included the seventieth anniversaries of the foundation of the Federal Republic and the formation of the NATO alliance, the eightieth anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, the 100th anniversaries of the Treaty of Versailles, the foundation of the Weimar Republic, and German women achieving the right to vote. In 2020, important commemorations include the seventy-fifth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the 250th anniversaries of Beethoven’s and Hegel’s birth, as well as the 100th anniversary of the HARIBO company that invented gummi bears.

Abstract:
Our journal in 2019 celebrates a double anniversary: the publication of 50th volume and the centenary of the beginning of its predecessor — the series “Notulae systematicae ex Herbario Horti botanici Petrololitani” (= “Botanicheskiye materialy Gerbariya Glavnogo Botanicheskogo Sada RSFSR”). “Notulae systematicae…” was founded in 1919 and was published (intermittently) until 1963. Outstanding Russian botanists B. A. Fedtschenko, V. L. Komarov, B. K. Schischkin were its editors. 22 volumes containing 756 articles and notes (plus reference volume) were published. “Novitates systematicae plantarum vascularium” (= “Novosti sistematiki vysshikh rastenii”) became a natural continuation of the “Notulae systematicae…”, the series was edited by I. A. Linczevsky, V. I. Grubov, T. V. Egorova, N. N. Tzvelev. Nowadays, the editorial board seeks to find the place of the journal in the Russian and world system of botanical periodicals, to ensure its inclusion in authoritative international citation systems. Keeping traditions, we strive to more correspond to the modern style of international publications on the vascular plants taxonomy.

Abstract:
The uprisings categorized as the “Arab Spring” were not spontaneous events. To make them seem so is to marginalize the lineage of activism that brought them into being. Within cinema, this decades-long struggle has been invigorated by militant manifesto writing, collective film production, and the development of viewing communities dedicated to Third World liberation, often infrastructurally supported by now vanquished nationalized post- and anticolonial institutions. Barra fi al-Shari‘/Out on the Street (Jamina Metwaly and Philip Rizk, 2015) catalyzes many of these revolutionary histories. Drawing on archival and shared footage dedicated to fighting for workers’ rights, the film’s communally conceived plot pivots around a factory takeover. The narrative is carried by contributors whom the filmmakers call “en-actors.” These en-actors both restage the violence exerted upon them by managers and the police and exemplify how cinema can become a form of training–for those on screen and in the audience–for future revolutionary action.

Abstract:
Golden anniversaries are very special. The 50th anniversary of Title V of the Social Security Act of 1935 has extra significance for the American Academy of Pediatrics. The Academy owes its existence in large part to the events leading up to the Act and the current implementation of the Act has been greatly influenced by the Academy. The story deserves telling again.1,2 Maternal and Child Health (MCH) received national visibility with the first White House conference in 1909, which led to the formation of the Children's Bureau in 1912. The first studies done by this organization highlighted the high rate of infant mortality and severe handicaps among children.
