Full textThis work aims at presenting a synthesis of present knowledge about infants cognitive development organised around the concept of intelligence used in a new perspective. The first chapter situates this perspective and proposes a new definition. The second traces the history of the approach to infant intelligence in the psychometric tradition, the theories of wallon and piaget, and through the more recent concept of "competence" which has emerged from the methological revolution which began during the sixties in the study of perception. The third chapter is therefore devoted to methodology. The fourth examines the relations between intelligence and perception, and the fifth social intelligence. The seventh confronts our existing knowledge with recent theories and presents 7 propositions which sumarize the conceptions of infant intelligence defended in this thesis: 1 intelligence is perceptual, 2 its main object is the human being, 3 motor activity is an object rather than a source of intelligence, 4 mothering is a meta-cognitive activity, 5 intelligence develops with attention, 6 the newborn is a subject, 7 intelligence develops in a continuous way

Full textThe education reform act, which reached the statute book in July 1988, to be enforced in England and Wales, signalled a far-reaching reorganization of the education system and a sharp ideological break with the past. This act - an all-important act to the conservatives - was accompanied by ubiquitous, extensive and elaborate "official rhetoric" emphasizing several major explanatory themes: the increase in the role and influence of the "consumers" of the education system, the expansion of freedom of choice, the reinforcement of social cohesion and the improvement of the education system. By confronting the panoply of official rhetoric - the postulates and perspectives it contains - with realities, this work discloses concealed priorities and purposes which often prove incompatible with the stated objectives. The rhetoric, therefore, is shown to be a mask designed to conceal the true aims of the education reform act, which really partakes more of an uncompromising political ideology than a genuine, coherent scheme for education. Centralizing educational power while bypassing local democracy, taking over curricular contents, supervising teachers, stepping up selection, reproducing privilege, promoting individualism: these are some of the major motives of the 1988 education reform act as they appear beneath the cloak of the official rhetoric

Full textLes mauvaises habitudes de vie sont associées à une augmentation du risque de développer des problèmes d'obésité, un diabète de type 2 et des maladies cardiovasculaires. Or, la première année universitaire est reconnue comme une période critique quant aux habitudes de vie. De nombreuses études ont observé un gain de poids au cours de cette période, ce qui pourrait avoir un impact négatif sur le profil de risque cardiométabolique des jeunes adultes. L'objectif de la présente étude était de décrire les changements dans les données anthropométriques, le profil lipidique, la condition physique et les habitudes alimentaires des étudiants durant une année universitaire. Au total, 50 étudiants ont participé à l'étude. Toutes les mesures ont été faites au début et à la fin de l'année scolaire. Les apports alimentaires ont été évalués à l'aide du FFQ-WEB, un questionnaire en ligne autoadministré de fréquence alimentaire. Une augmentation significative de la circonférence de taille a été observée chez les hommes et les femmes, tandis que l'indice de masse corporelle et le poids n'ont augmenté significativement que chez les hommes. Il n'y a eu aucun changement significatif dans la condition physique, ni dans les apports en macronutriments. Toutefois, la consommation de légumes et de fruits a diminué. Le cholestérol total, le cholestérol LDL et le cholestérol HDL, ainsi que l'apolipoprotéine B, ont augmenté de manière significative chez les hommes. Chez les femmes, le cholestérol HDL et l'apolipoprotéine B ont augmenté significativement, alors que les concentrations de cholestérol HDL ont diminuées. En conclusion, cette étude confirme que la transition vers l'université pourrait être associée à une détérioration du profil de risque cardiométabolique et des habitudes alimentaires. Des interventions ciblées devraient être développées pour aider les étudiants universitaires à atteindre ou à maintenir un mode de vie sain pendant cette période de leur vie.
Unhealthy lifestyle is associated with an increased risk of developing obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The transition to university is associated with deterioration in lifestyle and many studies observed a weight gain during this critical period. This could have a negative impact on the cardiometabolic risk profile of young adults. The objective of this study was to describe changes in anthropometric measurements, metabolic profile, physical fitness and food intakes of students during one academic year. A total of 50 university students were involved in this study. All measurements were made at the beginning and at the end of the school year. Food intakes were assessed using the FFQ-WEB, an online self-administered quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Our results showed a significant increase in waist circumference in both men and women, while body mass index and weight were significantly increased in men. There was no significant change in physical fitness, nor in macronutrient intakes. However, vegetables and fruits consumption decreased. Total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, as well as apolipoprotein B, increased significantly in men. In women, HDL cholesterol and apolipoprotein B increased significantly, while the total/HDL cholesterol ratio decreased. In conclusion, this study confirms that transition to university could be associated with deterioration in metabolic profile and eating habits. Targeted interventions should be developed to help university students achieve or maintain a healthy lifestyle, including diet, during this period.

Full textThis dissertation deals with the paternal "pontage" ("bridge"), a theoretical hypothesis about the specificity of the role of the father in the cognitive development of the toddler. The father is expected to widen maternal experiences by proposing risked and destabilizing stimulations. The father also encourages more than the mother does the autonomous functioning of the toddler, especially in problem-solving situation. The first research, which concerns 40 father (or mother)-16 month -olds dyads in a free play situation with polyvalent objects, showed that the father performs more "non conventional" games than the mother, who is more didactic when demonstrating the canonical use of those objects. The father also the child more than the mother. The second research, which concerns 62 father (or mother)-18 month-olds dyads in a solving situation involving fitting fames, showed that the father makes more requests to the toddler for finding the solution than the mother. While the child tries to solve the problem, the father gives more indirect instructions, which do not allow an immediate resolution, so, the father encourages more an autononmous functionning of the toddler

Full textJulienne Gauvain, alias Juliette Drouet, is mainly well-known for her fifty-year relationship with Victor Hugo. But first and foremost, she was a lavish letter writer who wrote more than 22,000 letters to her dear poet – calling them her ‘restitus’- from 1833 until she died in 1883. They were safely kept by her lover, who entrusted them to Louis Koch – Juliette Drouet’s nephew – after she died. Today, they are gradually published online so as to provide the general public, as well as researchers, with this complete astounding correspondence. The critical and scientific edition – including transcriptions, scholar and manuscript-related annotations, explanatory notes, index, glossary – of 568 letters dating from 1841 (8th anniversary of the couple’s love story) highlights their biographical, documentary and literary interests. Indeed these ‘restitus’ allow a day-to-day study of the life of Juliette Drouet, who had just withdrawn from theatrical and public life in order to fully devote herself to her love, and of Victor Hugo who, freshly elected to the Académie française on January 7th and in the process of writing Le Rhin, had to face literary and family trials, started taking his first notes on the present times and was supervising the revivals of Hernani, Ruy Blas and Angelo, tyran de Padoue. These letters also account for an accurate testimony on the status of women, the sentimental ties, the customs and all sorts of small details of the 19th century daily life. As well, they supply precious information concerning the historical, political, medical, scientific, social and artistic context of the July Monarchy and the reign of Louis-Philippe. Finally, apart from its own stylistic and literary value, this true mass of text arouses a generic reflection given its hybrid status of epistolary diary

First part: saving and intermediary financing in cote d'ivoire. The implantation of financial institutions has permitted the savers to use several forms of accounts which are savings accounts and banking accounts. Second part: a statement on Ivorian development policies of financing the financial policy is the line that every power defines in the context of public resources. The monetary policy in cote d'ivoire consist in supporting the economy and the national treasury. Third part: a financing strategy of Ivorian development. This part of our analysis is about the help of international organisations. On our mind, foreign capitals must not play a very important role but a secondary one in the financing of Ivorian development public resources must play a very important role by the intermediary of taxations. .

Canberra's membership of both the south pacific commision and the south pacific forum -the two most important regional co-operation organisations- represente a vantage point from which it is easier, on the one hand, to assess the weight of the island-continent in this part of the world in the economic, political and strategic fields, and, on the other hand, to analyse the evolution of her role on the regional scene in a colonial, and then post-colonial setting. A wealthy and technologically advanced enclave in the heart of the southern hemisphere, australia remains torn between her historical legacy that links her to western europe and north america, and the reality of her geographical location that binds her to third world microstates. What needs to be ascertained is to what extent ganberra has developed a new type of north-south relations -more egalitarian and better balanced- as a result of her original situation, and how far she makes use of her natural assets to advance her national interests while maintaining the western ascendancy over the region

Full textWhat is the knowledge taught in high school and university? What would applying a sociology of workbased perspective to this knowledge teach us? Rather than follow didactic approaches, or accept from the outset disciplines’ discourses about the knowledge they build, let us consider knowledge as the output of labour, without heeding disciplinary or school level partitions. Let us look at the teachers’ and students’ work, their way of cooperating together in order to define what has to be learned. Let us also look at the work of textbooks editors, inspectors, and school programmes developers. Knowledge is the consequence of the division of labour between these categories. Through their respective actions, they define conventions in teaching and learning of knowledge: in the ways to teach a class, to recruit and to write textbooks. For the students, learning knowledge is, actually, learning these conventions. This thesis draws on a field study carried out in two high schools and one university. In the high schools, the investigated knowledge is Economics and Social sciences, and Physics and Chemistry, and, in the university, the investigated knowledge is Sociology, Physics, and Chemistry. The aim is to elaborate a new perspective from which we will be able to analyse all types of school knowledge, at elementary school, at middle, and high school, or in third-level education, not only as a simple outflow of disciplinary knowledge, but as the product of conventions continually negotiated by the efforts of the different categories of involved actors
