Abstract:
As smart phones appeared with their elegant, easy and exciting touch functionality, the use of touch screen devices has been spreading very fast. Beside the previous advantages, smart phones addresses some new challenges for people with disabilities. Most of visually impaired people don't prefer using touch-screen devices, as these lack the tactile feedback and are visually demanding. However, there have been some solutions to come over these problems, but they were not enough. Some of these solutions is to connect a special equipment to a smart phone to allow the visually impaired user to enter the required input. Other applications help visually impaired people to use the smart phones and read whatever on the screen by hovering their finger tips on the text. Visually impaired people who use smart phones have to memorize QWERTY keyboard which have a large number of targets with small locations specified for each target which will lead to a high proportion of error occurrence. In this paper, the authors propose ABTKA- Arabic Braille Touch Keyboard for Android Users. This application is the first application for Arabic language that uses Braille language for visually impaired who are using smart phones or intended to do so. ABTKA facilitates text-entry functionality by supporting Braille writing on touch screens. The used approach in the proposed system can be easily adapted to other languages. The main advantages of the used approach are that it does not need any extra equipment to be connected to the smart phone; it is dynamic (no fixed positions for the touch points), simple to use, one entry for each character, supported by voice and respond promptly to the input. ABTKA involves various algorithms to achieve its objectives. It starts with entering the user standard locations of finger tips, then the user can enter any Braille character which has to be reindexed to be in the same order of Perkins Brailler's buttons. Any inserted character is converted to Arabic character. Any converted character will have a voice feedback. Words and full sentences will also have voice feedback. ABTKA has been tested by various visually impaired people and proved that it is easy to learn and simple to use.

Abstract:
Technology is being used and improved by human beings over a long period of time now and Smartphones is one of them. Smart Phones contain touch screen, built in keyboard, high resolution camera, front side camera for video conferencing, etc. They are used for making and receiving calls, sending and receiving messages, accessing the Internet, digital media, incorporating audio/video recording etc. Different smart phones have different operating systems and mobile applications are developed for each operating system in smart phones, tablet or mobile phones, in order to serve the needs of the user. These apps are either preinstalled or downloadable from online app market that can do almost everything. Apps make a mobile be like a portable computer having multi core processors, gigabytes of memory and a real operating system. Originally mobile apps were made available for only calling, messaging and informational purposes like calendar, weather forecast, e- mail, etc. With improvement in technology and increase in user demands, developers started making apps for other purposes like games, banking, video chats etc. Some apps are also used to present data in the same format as on a computer website and also allow you to download content that you can use when there is no Internet. There are many apps available in market today for different Operating Systems in which Android is having the maximum market share these days.

Abstract:
Android, a platform for smartphones and mobile devices, is becoming more and more present in the market. Nevertheless, the battery runtime of smartphones is short and strongly influenced by the network usage. Some proposals exist to reduce the energy consumption associated to the network usage and increase the smartphone runtime. But for adjusting them for a real improvement it is required to study the network utilisation triggered by the smartphone applications. With this analysis the applications communication patterns can be obtained and used to predict the network usage and the amount of data expected. In order to gather network statistics of the running applications, a logger application is implemented for the Android platform to log network statistics of running applications. The statistics are analysed on a PC computer to obtain the applications' communication patterns. A number of applications are selected, sorted by the rankings of downloads and type. A detailed analysis of the network usage is presented. This analysis identifies some of their patterns, some application characteristics and groups of applications from the determined network usage. The network usages for applications with similar functionalities are compared and lessons learnt from the analysis are discussed. Finally, some improvements for our logger application and analysis are discussed.

Abstract:
The use of devices with internet connectivity that can be used everywhere in everyday life has increased immensely in just a few years. Information mobility is greater today than ever before. A lot of people have access to large amounts of information in his or her pocket. This behavior has both positive and negative potentials. In this study we explore how a small group of people use their devices and also how inconsiderate behavior can be linked to some threats directed towards mobile devices. The question “In what ways can careless usage of mobile devices affect the safety regarding information accessible from the device?” is answered by comparing studied literature and the results of a survey. The careless use of mobile devices definitely has an impact on data integrity, independently of whether it is personal or organizational data.

Abstract:
This is a B.Sc. thesis within the Computer Science programme at the Mid Sweden University. The purpose of this project has been to investigate the possibility of using image based surveillance in smart applications on the Internet-of-Things. The goals involved investigating relevant technologies and designing, implementing and evaluating an application that can perform image recognition. A number of image recognition techniques have been investigated and the use of color histograms has been chosen for its simplicity and low resource requirement. The main source of study material has been the Internet. The solution has been developed in the Java programming language, for use on the Android operating system and using the MediaSense platform for communication. It consists of a camera application that produces image data and a monitor application that performs image recognition and handles user interaction. To evaluate the solution a number of tests have been performed and its pros and cons have been identified. The results show that the solution can differentiate between simple colored stick figures in a controlled environment. Variables such as lighting and the background are significant. The application can reliably send images from the camera to the monitor at a rate of one image every four seconds. The possibility of using streaming video instead of images has been investigated but found to be difficult under the given circumstances. It has been concluded that while the solution cannot differentiate between actual people it has shown that image based surveillance is possible on the IoT and the goals of this project have been satisfied. The results were expected and hold little newsworthiness. Suggested future work involves improvements to the MediaSense platform and infrastructure for processing and storing data.

Abstract:
Context-awareness can be used in tour guide applications in order to provide users with information and services. The majority of tour guide applications are usually developed for educational or historical review purposes. This paper presents a proof-of-concept of the unpublished audio tour guide application, “SoundTracker”, with the aim of improving it. The new “SoundTracker” prototype does not aim for educational or historical review purposes, instead it is aimed for recording, listening and sharing personal audio tour guides with friends and family. The proof-of-concept is limited by the defined research questions found in this paper. In summary, the accuracy of the read-in GPS coordinates of a user’s position is enhanced with Kalman filter, to give an enjoyable user experience. Additionally, the graphical user interface of the original prototype is improved and tested through web-surveys. As for the sharing functionality, a test application is created in order to find what necessary aspects need to be considered in the new "SoundTracker" prototype when a user wants to share a sound-walk with friends and family. The test application is tested based on responses obtained through a semi-structured interview from people in the age of 20-30 years. The obtained results indicate that, with use of Kalman filter, the location accuracy of the user is enhanced, which results in a sound-walk with less deviations compared to location accuracy of only GPS-sensor. Regarding the improved graphical user interface, users found the new "SoundTracker" prototype easier to understand, as well as to navigate through it, than the case in the original prototype. Users also find it interesting when a sharing function is implemented with the design that is discussed in this work.

In recent years, mobile phone companies have launched smart phones, such as Apple's iPhone. Google also launched Android operating system for the smart phones. Android provided an open platform for smart phones. Many websites now also provide specific services, such as Google Maps and so on. But if a user wants to use different services from different websites, this must be achieved using Mashup technique to create a service that is required. In this thesis, we used Android as platform to create mashup services for smart phones. Google Maps and Picasa were used to implement a new mashup application. Data are integrated and stored using SQLite, which can also be used for further mashups applications and data integrations. A Mashup Engine was designed on Android platform to mashup Google Maps and Picasa API data, and SQLite was used to store ad process data. The picture information from Picasa API are applied to Google Maps API, which provides map service, and the mashed up data are displayed on Android platform.
