ABSTRACT: In the transition from society of the Third Industrial Revolution to the Society of Knowledge and Information, there is a need to understand the world better. From the society of tangible assets, reminiscent of the economy of material goods and industrial capitalism, one moves to the knowledge society, with the ambition of constructing a proper understanding of the world, which interprets phenomena promoting more responsible development. An investigation contributes to knowledge when it identifies a significant, entrepreneurial, operational and measurable problem in its objectives. It must also foresee sustainable growth and transformation over time and recognize creative possibilities to achieve goals with lower expenditure and higher income. These attributes are thought together and interconnected, aiming at results capable of dialogue and negotiation with the real. These operations apply logic of organization of thought and models for critical reflection on things in the world of the human being. In the field of ephemerality, the conceptual construction of POP UP delimits its life cycle by anticipation, revealing the catalysing potential of participatory practice, where it is thought as a project. It stimulates participation between creators who guide and users who experiment, promoting actions that establish relationships among stakeholders, adding value and meaning and achieving the primary intention of Design to solve problems. The research question was formulated as follows: how the POP UP concept, with its qualities of revelation, contamination, mobility and stratagem, could consolidate its conceptual meaning as a catalyst for responsible action. The orientation and good practice of the concept was guided by designing a conceptual model that would encourage an interdisciplinary, creative and participative action to optimize the Design process. In order to verify the research hypothesis, a methodology was established for active research, direct observation and fieldwork. Experimental work was carried out with sample groups to develop the model, which was subsequently object of evaluation in the methodological strategy of auscultation by expert panel. A mixed, non-interventionist and interventionist qualitative methodology was established. In a narrow sense, this research project argues that the product produces producers who produce the product, designing a model of circular transformation that sustains the process in Design. In a broad sense, the model's ambition is to inspire collaborative intelligence through participatory experimentation, proposing new social dynamics through this practice and promoting the recovery of the community, economic and exceptional senses in everyday life.

As one of the fastest-growing cities in America, Tucson, Arizona suffers from a classic case of urban sprawl. Fueled by the prevalence of lot splits and cheap suburban land, little was done to curb the city's unsustainable growth until 1998, when the discovery of endangered pygmy owls in Tucson sparked the creation of the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan. The plan aims to preserve biodiversity in Tucson and surrounding Pima County by limiting development in biologically sensitive areas of the desert. In addition, Pima County is applying for a county-wide Section 10 Permit from US Fish & Wildlife Service. Water is another limiting factor in the city's growth. When Tucson overdrafted its groundwater resources, the city bought additional water from the Colorado River, which was channeled to Tucson through the Central Arizona Project. Due to infrastructure problems, initial delivery of canal water in 1992 was shut down in 1994. Tucson Water, the city's main water utility, later turned to recharge and recovery as a way to treat river water. Even with the addition of river water, Tucson, like other cities in the American Southwest, continues to search for new water sources for its ever-growing population.

Full textFor the present research work, two problems were detected in the Lima juncture. In first place, companies organizing cultural events have little influx due to inefficient dissemination of their events. On the other hand, it is difficult to find cultural offer in Lima. To solve these problems, the research team has proposed the development of an application through which organizers can disseminate their events and sell tickets in the same application; and where users can find all the cultural offer that Lima offers through a map that allows them to see in real time what is happening around them. For the development of the work, an endless number of experiments were carried out with users and clients that allowed adequate projections, as well as strategic, operational, marketing, human resources, social and financial responsibility plans according to market needs. The quantitative analysis of the research concludes in the need to invest S /. 44,350.75 soles to obtain S /. 26,207.20 as net income the first year, S /. 197,488.59 in the second year and S /. 609,430.36 in the third year. Ruggeri, Azzurra. "Opening up the cuebox." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät II, 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/16644.
Full textMy dissertation addresses the questions 1) what cues children and adults have in their cuebox (i.e., the set of cues available for making inferences or categorizing), 2) how people’s intuition about the importance of the cues drives their information search, and 3) how the framing of a problem and the experimental design influence these intuitions. A first project investigated developmental differences in how children and adults solve a sequential binary categorization task. Results show that, apart from age-related differences, children’s but not adults’ inquiry strategies improve if objects are represented at the basic level (e.g., dog) but not if represented at the subordinate level (e.g., Dalmatian) or when the basic level is specified by additional features (e.g., dog, kennel, to wag, collar). Explanations are that, unlike other representations, basic level objects trigger features that are useful for categorization, and therefore help children ask more effective questions. A second project tested children and young adults on two inference problems, by manipulating whether cues were generated or given. Results show that, only when generating their own cues, younger children matched or even outperformed the accuracy of older children and young adults, by generating cues that were as informative as the those generated by older children and young adults. A third project examined the type, amount and informativeness of the cues in people’s cuebox. Further, it investigated the influence of the type of cues on the ability of children and young adults to generate or select the most informative cue available. Results show that children’s cuebox contains more perceptual cues than young adults’. We found no difference between the two age groups in terms of informativeness of the cues generated. Young adults showed the tendency to systematically consider non-perceptual cues more informative than perceptual cues. Children showed such tendency only in a cue-selection task.
