Abstract:
Abstract In the 1970s, energy conservation was a household idea, but it was also a form of labor discipline. This article shows how one utility, the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company (PP&L), used energy conservation to discipline unwaged workers in the home, upending decades of home economics research that sought to substitute electric energy for human energy in housework. To effectively deploy this strategy, PP&L drew on utilities’ well-established understanding of women's unwaged work in the home as central to balancing the rhythms of power demand. By exploring this history, this article also argues that by adopting a more expansive understanding of labor in energy systems—which I term “energy work”—we can better understand the interrelationship of labor, gender, and power in the operation of energy systems and more fully incorporate the history of unwaged workers into the history of energy.

Abstract:
This article highlights that the creation of efficient electric appliances using cheap electricity has enabled us to enjoy healthier and more bountiful lives. Since electric power results from the conversion of energy resources in an electric power generating plant, those resources must be adequate and available at low cost at the plant site. Mechanical engineers developed the machinery for coal mining, for coal transportation, and for bulk coal handling. GE and Westinghouse made early contributions starting in electric generator and electric motor development. The US electric utility industry has been mandated by several states to sell all or a large portion of its generating plants. Independent power generators are building new combined-cycle units in selected market regions. Mergers and acquisitions of electric utilities are continuing to increase the size of parent company operations. Mechanical engineers have developed relatively low-cost electric power generation technology through the 20th century, enabling the United States to maintain its world economic leadership and standard of living.

Abstract:
Through the vehicle to the network (V2G) control, the objective of the "load shifting" is possible. Reasonable charging and discharging price is the fundamental driving force for EV users to participate in V2G and the analysis of the game process of the grid company and the EV users becomes critical. A bilevel programming problem is established which makes company the largest gains and consumers the minimum cost. Through a control scheme whose purpose is minimizing the sample variance of load, the relationship of annual discharging electricity energy and peak load decrement is obtained. At last the optimal discharging price of power grid company and the corresponding proportion of EV participating in V2G is calculated by chaos algorithm. It provides a reference for company to formulate discharging price.

Abstract:
The wind power (WP) has strong random volatility and is not coordinated with the load in time and space, resulting in serious wind abandonment. Based on this, an orderly charging and discharging strategy for electric vehicles (EVs) considering WP consumption is proposed in this paper. The strategy uses the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology to establish the maximum consumption of WP in the region, minimizes the peak–valley difference of the power grid and maximizes the electricity sales efficiency of the power company in the mountainous city. The dynamic electricity prices are set according to the predicted values and the true values of WP output, and the improved adaptive particle swarm optimization (APSO) and CVX toolbox are used to solve the problems. When the user responsiveness is 30%, 60% and 100%, the WP consumption is 72.1%, 81.04% and 92.69%, respectively. Meanwhile, the peak shaving and valley filling of the power grid are realized, and the power sales benefit of the power company is guaranteed.

Abstract:
Intelligent customer service system is timely, efficient, and accurate, which is more and more popular in grid electric power companies, and the amount of customer consultation is increasing day by day. It is infeasible for human customer service to answer these questions on time, so an automatic question-answering system is of great help to the grid electric power company. The customer queries from the grid electric power company customer service is very different from open-domain questions: the problems questioned by customer tend to be for a specific device or system within the enterprise operation problem. Most grid electric companies provide customers with a communication platform where customers can get guidance on using equipment and the business process. The comments from communication platforms are valuable resources for answering customer questions. In our work, we use three neural network models which excavate potential answers to customer queries from comments. One of the key challenges, however, is the difficulty of matching customer questions with comments. To solve this problem, we propose a method based on deep learning to find the comments related to customer questions to generate more accurate and reliable answers. Experiments can prove that our method performed well in the customer service of grid electric power company.

Abstract:
This paper examines the extent to which it is possible to replace conventional light commercial vehicles in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning and plumbing trade with battery electric vehicles with an unchanged usage profile. GPS trackers are used to record the position data of 22 craft vehicles with combustion engines from eleven companies over the duration of one working week. Within this paper, various assumptions (battery capacity and average consumption) are made for battery electric vehicles and the charging power on the company premises. The potential of battery electric vehicles is evaluated based on the assumption that they are charged only on company premises. Using the collected data and the assumptions made, theoretical state of charge curves are calculated for the vehicles. The driving profiles of the individual vehicles differ greatly, and the suitability of battery electric vehicles should be considered individually. Battery capacity, vehicle energy consumption and charging power at the company have a substantial influence on the suitability of battery electric vehicles. Furthermore, there are differences between vehicles that can charge on the company premises at night and those that cannot or can only do so on some days.

Abstract:
The article considers the problem of implementing the process of digitalization of the energy industry, using the example of the Rosseti group of companies, a partner of the state corporation Rosatom in the field of IT development, from the point of view of staffing in the current state of the labour market. The purpose of the research work is to develop relevant mechanisms, search for modern personnel management tools in the context of digital transformation of the electric grid complex of the Russian Federation. The scientific novelty of the research is reduced to the following provisions: the main directions of digitalization of an electric grid company are systematized, on the basis of which the organizational and economic mechanism of the process of digital transformation of an electric grid company is modelled; a classification of modern tools of the business process of personnel management of an electric grid company is proposed. Methodology and methods. To study trends in the digitalization process of electric grid companies, general scientific methods are used (theoretical analysis of scientific works, empirical, logical, classification and modelling methods). A review of publications is carried out, which made it possible to determine the subject area of the research work. Results. The main processes within the electric grid company that will be transformed in the process of digitalization are considered, using the example of the Rosseti Group of Companies. Taking into account the considered areas of digitalization of activities, an organizational and economic mechanism of the digitalization process of an electric grid company has been formulated, which is distinguished by the rationale for the author’s definition of digitalization on the scale of the energy industry. The role of high-quality staffing in the implementation of digital processes and activities of electric grid companies is determined and specific requirements for applicant’s characteristic of the energy industry are identified. The structure of the human resource management business process is considered, digital tools are selected for each subprocess that will help improve staffing levels and the efficiency of using labour resources of the electric grid company. Discussion. An effective personnel policy aimed at maximizing the company's staffing with qualified personnel is one of the key solutions in increasing the reliability and sustainability of the energy industry during the period of digitalization. Standard tools in the field of personnel management may not work in the context of both a demographic personnel shortage and the current migration of labour resources to the defence and military industries. Constant adaptation of the used methods and practices of personnel management is required, taking into account the digitalization of this business process and the challenges that the energy industry of the Russian Federation currently faces.

Abstract:
A model of power market with a simple market clearing price mechanism on microgrid is considered. Market participants are consumers, prosumers with energy storage systems (ESS), and the power company as a guaranteed supplier. Prosumers charge their ESS in the first off-peak period with low prices from the power company and can decrease their demand or sell energy in the market through discharging the ESS in the second peak period. The strategic behavior of participants and their influences on a system state are postulated as the goal of work. Some use cases and model elements are discussed.
