Full textThis work is part of a process of implementing a learning analytics process in a context where documentary production is carried out via an engineering approach driven by models. We are mainly interested in the possibilities that could emerge if the same approach is used in order to achieve such an implementation. Our problematic concerns the identification of these possibilities, in particular by ensuring to allow, via the proposed metamodel, the enrichment of learning indicators with the semantics and the structure of the educational documents consulted by the learners, as well as an a priori definition of relevant indicators. In order to design the metamodel in question, we first carried out an exploratory study with learners, aimed at knowing their needs and the reception of enriched indicators. On the other hand, we carried out a systematic review of the literature of existing interaction indicators in the field of learning analytics in order to gather the potential elements to be abstracted for the construction of the corresponding metamodel. The challenge was to design a metamodel where the elements necessary for the abstraction of this domain are present without being unnecessarily complex, making it possible to model both learning indicators based on a descriptive analysis and those used for a prediction or a diagnosis. We then proceeded to a proof of concept and an evaluation of this metamodel

Full textThe genome of bacteria is classically separated into essential, stable and slow evolving replicons (chromosomes) and accessory, mobile and rapidly evolving replicons (plasmids). This paradigm is being questioned since the discovery of extra-chromosomal essential replicons (ECERs), be they called ”megaplasmids”, ”secondary chromosomes” or ”chromids”, which possess both chromosomal and plasmidic features. These ECERs are found in diverse lineages across the bacterial phylogeny and are generally believed to be modified plasmids. However, their true nature and the mechanisms permitting their integration within the sable genome are yet to be formally determined. The relationships between replicons, with reference to their genetic information inheritance systems (GIIS), were explored under the assumption that the inheritance of ECERs is integrated to the cell cycle and highly constrained in contrast to that of standard plasmids. A global comparative genomics analysis including all available of complete bacterial genome sequences, was performed using GIIS functional homologues as parameters and applying several analytical procedures. GIIS proved appropriate in characterizing the level of integration within the stable genome, as well as the origins, of the replicons. The study of ECERs thus provides clues to the genetic mechanisms and evolutionary processes involved in the replicon stabilization into the essential genome and the continuity of the genomic material

Full textThis research consists on an analytic description of the teaching and learning of French in Saudi Arabia. It begins by examining the most prominent characteristics of the setting, which is the Faculty of Languages and Translation at Riyadh, including compression, distance, and rote learning. Since religious and cultural issue weigh heavily on the syllabus, the socio-cultural context also has to be taken into account. This is why a lexicultural approach adapted to local circumstances was considered as a way of improving the teaching and learning of written expression. The second part of the thesis is devoted to a first-hand critical examination of the contents of the syllabus for teaching written comprehension and in particular of the ways in which they are adapted to local forms of teaching and learning, as well as conforming diplomatically to indigenous cultural constraints. These points are then illustrated with reference to students' written work. The research is based on two main criteria : visual recognition and effective comprehension, which are manifested in three levels of comprehension : global, focussed and implicit. The final part of the study sets out a number of methodological alternatives aiming at imrpoving both the students' reading performance and the teaching and learning of the foreigne language and culture in an institutional context. These propositions fall into two main types, concerning reading strategies and interpretative abilities in French : it is here that the notion of lexiculture comes into play, since it provides access to implicit meanings, many of which are cultural

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to analyse in depth the question of learner autonomy, considered to be a fundamental requirement in the educational field. Adopting a cultural perspective, the study acknowledges first of all the difficulty in applying western models to the context of learning French as a foreign language in Vietnam. It adopts an abductive research method based on a grounded theory approach entailing successive interplay between empirical work and theory. A rich and complex corpus has been collected through filming, interviews, the log-books of the four students observed, the exchange of emails and note-taking. In order to elucidate the complexity of the concept of autonomy it was necessary to explore the notions of strategy and competence and to identify learning difficulties. The study reveals notably that emotion plays an intermediary role in the interdependent relationship between the different learning components. This relationship is based upon both linear and cyclical causality. By showing the different obstacles the actor-learner must overcome in order to be autonomous, the study affirms the necessity to keep a balance between analytic and synthetic modes of thinking. Scaffolding the leaner’s development requires the tutor to accompany him/her towards this balance and to endeavour to maintain the same balance during the scaffolding process

Full textThis PhD thesis research work consists in understanding the behavior of the TBM according to the environment encountered in order to propose safe, durable and quality solutions for the digging of the tunnel. The main objective of this doctoral thesis work is to better understand the behavior of the TBM according to its environment. Thus, we will explore how the TBM reacts according to the different types of terrain and how it acts on the various elements of tunnel structure (voussoirs). This will make it possible to propose an intelligent and optimal dimensioning of the voussoirs and instructions of adapted piloting

Full textWithin each breath, a large diversity of volatiles molecules of the surrounding reaches our olfactory receptors. Despite the chemical complexity of the natural environment, the organisms succeed to represent their world using single odorants or mixtures. The treatment is then based on two processes: the elemental mode, which allows extracting the odor quality of all or some of the elements, or the configural mode which allows the holistic representation of the mixture. In this doctoral thesis, we evaluated the influence of some physicochemical parameters, the number of odorants included in a mixture and the developmental stage of an organism in the perception of mixtures in the rabbit and the Human. The results confirm that the perception of configurations is shared by the two models even if the modality of their emergence can be distinct, at least in part. Our findings support the idea that in mixture, several elements or association of elements can carry a perceptual weight leading to the elemental, or configural perception, respectively. These weights can be influenced by several mixture physicochemical parameters, especially their complexity, but can also be partially modified by experience and development. Finally, these works brings original results allowing to better understand how an organism, at different period of its individual life, achieves the extraction of biologically relevant odorants or mixtures of odorants from the highly chemical environment
