Abstract:
Thermal analysis of electric machine is one of the key steps in design procedure. Traditionally, thermal calculations are done by analytical method, mostly based on equivalent electrical circuit, where thermal quantities are replaced by equivalent electrical quantities. These methods employ so-called electro thermal analogy. Different approach is to use Finite Element Method, which is the main goal of this thesis. First part of the thesis is devoted to description of CAD system Autodesk Inventor, which is modern parametric CAD for modelling of virtual prototypes. This system is then used for creation of three dimensional model of brushless DC machine. Second part is focused on thermal calculations in Ansys Workbench environment. Model of brushless DC machine created in Inventor is transferred into Ansys Workbench and thermal analysis is carried out.

Abstract:
This study examines the effects of the computer-assisted text analysis program, WRITER'S WORKBENCH, on writing performance, levels of writing apprehension, students' writing processes and attitudes about using the computer and WORKBENCH for writing. A sample of 275 subjects enrolled in freshman composition were divided into an experimental group (N = 200) who used WORKBENCH in a mandatory computer lab component in addition to their composition course and a control group (N = 75) who received only the course, itself. Because random selection of participants was not possible, a Nonequivalent Control Group design was utilized. Holistic scoring of pre and posttest essays revealed a significant improvement in writing among both groups as a result of the treatments, but there was no significant difference in writing gains between the group using WORKBENCH and the group who did not (p = .942) . Similarly, though both groups demonstrated a small decrease in writing apprehension after instruction, there was no significant difference in the degree of decrease between the two groups (p = .201). Also, the data did not support a relationship between writing performance and apprehension. A 40 item questionnaire was given to the experimental group to determine: 1) attitudes about writing with a computer, 2) how students use WORKBENCH, and 3) students' attitudes about WORKBENCH. Some highlights of these findings are that narrow majorities enjoyed and were comfortable using the computer and WORKBENCH, but substantial minorities dissented or were uncertain. While 60% felt happier with their essays after using WORKBENCH and preferred using a computer to write, 89% of students felt word processing represented the greatest advantage and SPELL was the next most popular feature. Personal interviews conducted with 13 of the most and least apprehensive WORKBENCH users revealed that some students ignored the WORKBENCH analyses, and highly apprehensive students experienced more frustration with the computer, employed different writing processes, used WORKBENCH less often and less skillfully, and expressed more dissatisfaction with the computer.

Abstract:
Presented work deals with the strain-stress analysis of a spinal segment while monitoring the influence of total disk replacement Maverick on the global behaviour of the spinal segment. It also assesses the influence of this implant on the nearest upper intervertebral disk. On the basis of CT images was in the program Rhinoceros created the geometry model of spinal segment Th12-L2. The geometry model of implant was applied between vertebra L1 and L2 instead of intervertebral disk from which the whole core was removed, while in the immediate surrounding of implant the part of disk was left, which is important from the view of stability. Subsequently were in the program Ansys Workbench created finite element models for two states: - healthy (unbroken) status - status with applied implant Then the calculations for movements were realized: lateral flexion, flexion, extension, rotation. For the same movements were realized calculations of the model simulated spinal fusion of the vertebras L1-L2. Finally an influence both of methods (total disk replacement, spinal fusion) on the intervertebral disk Th12-L1 was compared.

Abstract:
A Study Of Shock Analysis Using The Finite Element Method Verified With Euler-Bernoulli Beam Theory; Mechanical Effects Due To Pulse Width Variation Of Shock Inputs; And Evaluation Of Shock Response Of A Mixed Flow Fan David Jonathan González Campos For many engineers that use finite element analysis or FEA, it is very important to know how to properly model and obtain accurate solutions for complicated loading conditions such as shock loading. Transient acceleration loads, such as shocks, are not as common as static loads. Analyzing these types of problems is less understood, which is the basis for this study. FEA solutions are verified using classical theory, as well as experimental results. The complex loading combination of shock and high speed rotation is also studied. Ansys and its graphic user interface, Workbench Version 14.5, are the programs used to solve these types of problems. Classical theory and Matlab codes, as well as experimental results, are used to verify finite element solutions for a simple structure, such as a cantilevered beam. The discrepancy of these FEA results is found to be 2.3%. The Full Method and the Mode Superposition Method in Ansys are found to be great solution tools for shock loading conditions, including complex acceleration and force conditions. The Full Method requires less pre-processing but solutions could take days, as opposed to hours, to complete in comparison with the Mode Superposition Method, depending on the 3D Model. The Mode Superposition Method requires more time and input by the user but solves relatively quickly. Furthermore, a new representation of critical pulse width of the shock inputs is presented. Experimental and finite element analyses of a complete mixed flow fan undergoing ballistic shock is also completed; deformation results due to shock loading, combined with rotation and aerodynamic loading, account for 32.3% of the total deformation seen from experimental testing. Solution methods incorporated in Ansys, and validation of FEA results using theory, have great potential implications as powerful tools for engineering students and practicing engineers.

Abstract:
Railway sleepers have important roles within the complex railroad. Dynamic interaction among Rail, sleeper and ballast supports are vital for the construction of dynamic model track capable of predicting its responses to impact loads due to wheel flats, wheel burns, irregularities of the rail. Railway track deteriorates over time due to the dynamic loading of passing wheeled vehicle. to ensure the secure passing of trains, the track must well design and managed. The objective of this thesis is to determine the stress in wooden rail sleeper by the considering Ballast, Sub ballast, and soil with the help of well-known FEM Tool Ansys Workbench. Material models for wooden sleeper and subgrade are anisotropic elasticity and elasto plastic (Drucker Prager), respectively. To validate FEM results with analytical Zimmermann method, perform the 2D linear static analysis and 3D nonlinear static analysis. The numerical analysis results in Ansys Work bench are presented and discussed the model validation with analytical results. Even though simulation converged it does not mean this model could give results similar to reality. But in my opinion these results are not sufficient to study the behavior of wooden sleeper because limitations in soil mechanics (Soil Models in Ansys Workbench).

The issue this master’s thesis discusses the cooling synchronous machines. Specifically, the calculation of cooling induction motor using the finite volume method. Using Autodesk Inventor will create a 3D model of a real electric machine, ie asynchronous motor and then ANSYS WORKBENCH perform system analysis CFX, based on the finite volume method. Furthermore, we realize the air speed measurements on a particular machine and the individual results obtained by measuring and calculating the actual compared with each other. The master’s thesis also deals marginally with closely related to it. For the same machine model, we apply the calculation of the temperature fields using the finite volume method and them perform a thermal analysis. Next, we can carry out the measurement of the temperature on the motor itself and calculate the measured values and the measured compare each other.

Abstract:
The master’s thesis deals with analysis of warming and cooling of synchronous machine. The warming is caused by the machine’s losses resulting from the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy. There then can be achieved high values of temperature on the machine, which can lead to destruction of the machine. The transient thermal analysis, working on the finite element program Ansys Workbench, is used for thermal analysis. As an appropriate instrument, which serves for flow calculation, a module CFX in the program Ansys Workbench may be used. In the practical part the model for unhampered alternator with current in the field winding only was measured and after that, the measured values were compared with the results of transient thermal analysis. Speed and progress of air flow through machine were analyzed with CFX module.

Abstract:
This Master thesis is based on problems of force effects of the magnetic field of short-circuit current. Firstly, I analysed the force action of the three phase busbars during the three-pole short circuit. The analysis was performed in the Ansys Maxwell program and I verified the correctness of the analysis by numerical calculation. The second practical part was executed for ABB company. The main task was to analyse the force effects of the short-circuit current in the HV switchgear with focusing on the arms and contact system of the circuit breaker. The simulations of the following configurations were performed in more details: three configurations of the simplified VD4 circuit breaker, two types of VD4 circuit-breaker contact systems and a linear circuit breaker configuration model. The objective was to calculate the forces acting on the current path of the arms and contact system of the VD4 circuit breaker during the three-phase short-circuit and to simulate the effects of forces on these current parts. For modelling of individual assemblies, calculations and simulations I used: SolidWorks 2014, Ansys Maxwell 16.0 and Ansys Workbench 14.5 programs. With SolidWorks 2014 3D CAD software were modelled simplified assemblies of circuit breakers and contact systems. These systems were imported into the Ansys Maxwell software, where the force effects of the magnetic field of the short-circuit current were calculated. In Ansys Workbench programme was simulated the effect of forces on the current circuit breakers. Moreover, the final deformations of the materials (with respect to the mechanical properties of the structure) were plotted. The analysis of force effects of the magnetic field was performed for the specified static short - circuit current value.

In recent years, building design and construction technology have been developed to enhance the strength and safety of the structures, including steel structures which are widely used in public works. Three dimensional truss-like steel frame which behaves with very high strength and stiffness is widely used. Although it is already clear knowledge as structures vibrate in elastic stage, it will become much more complicated when it vibrate beyond elastic limit and the material goes into yielding stage. The structures behaves nonlinearly. In order to investigate the dynamic behavior of the three dimensional truss-like steel frame, computer-aided engineering analysis software package ANSYS Workbench is used here in. Dynamic behaviors of the mentioned structure, such as stress, deflections, ultimate loads, and failure modes…etc. are detected in detail. It is expected to help engineers to face the design work in the future.

Abstract:
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)
Previous works suggest that 80% to 90% of failures observed in the rotary machines are accounted for fatigue failure. And it is observed that cyclic stresses are more critical than steady stresses when the failure occurred is due to fatigue. One of the most expensive industries involving rotary machines is the Oil and Gas industry. The large drilling tools are used for oil extracts on-shore and off-shore. There are several forces that act on a drilling tool while operating below the earth's surface. Those forces are namely pressure, bending moment and torque. The tool is designed from the baseline model of the former tool in Solidworks and Design Molder. Here load acting due to pressure and torque accounts for steady stress i.e., Mean Stress and loading acting due to bending moment account for fluctuating stress i.e., Alternating Stress. The loading and boundary conditions have been adapted from Halliburton’s previous works for the LWD drill tool to better estimate the size of the largest possible transducer. The fatigue analysis of static load cases is carried out in Ansys Mechanical Workbench 19.0 using static structural analysis. The simulation is run to obtain results for total deformation, equivalent stress, and user-defined results. The component is designed for infinite life to calculate the endurance limit. Shigley guidelines and FKM guidelines are compared as a part of a study to select the best possible approach in the current application. The width of the imaging pocket is varied from 1.25 inches to 2.0 inches to accommodate the largest possible transducer without compromising the structural integrity of the tool. The optimum design is chosen based on the stress life theory criteria namely Gerber theory and Goodman Theory.
