Abstract:
The Internet market is changing all the time and companies today need to keep up with the fast development. To do so companies track what their costumers do on their sites. This is not an easy task and is often done in web analytics tools. These web analytics tools are therefore important but still quite new, so in the race of making the best tools it is important to think about the users. This report describes a work completed at the web analytics company Innometrics in the first half of 2013. The work aimed to investigate Innometrics’system, find usability problems in the system and to create suggestions for improvement. The research is fundamented on the following questions:Which are the usability issues in graphical interface in Innometrics’ system today? How can the current system get changed to improve the usability in the system? The methods that were used to be able to answer the above questions were interviews, heuristic evaluation, user test prototyping and evaluation. Participants that conducted the evaluating of the system constituted of users and Human computer interaction students. The methods resulted in several improvement areas containing suggestions in what to change to make the system more usable and user friendly.

Abstract:
Outcome research has documented worsening among a minority of the patient population (5 to 10%). In this study a psychotherapy quality assurance system intended to enhance outcomes in patients at risk of treatment failure was reviewed through the use of meta-analytic, mega-analytic, and multilevel analytic techniques. A pooled dataset from six major studies conducted at a large university counseling center and a hospital outpatient setting (N = 6151, mean age = 23.3 years, female = 63.2%, Caucasian = 85%) were re-analyzed to examine the effects of progress feedback on patient outcome. In this quality assurance system, the Outcome Questionnaire-45 was routinely administered to patients to monitor their therapeutic progress and was utilized as part of an early alert system to identify patients at risk of treatment failure. Patient progress feedback based on this alert system was provided to clinicians to help them intervene before treatment failure occurred. Intent-to-treat and efficacy analyses of the effects of feedback interventions were conducted to obtain the estimates of effects expected from implementation of this quality assurance system as a policy as well as in clinical trials. Three forms of feedback interventions—integral elements of this quality assurance system—were effective in enhancing treatment outcome, especially for signal alarm patients. Two of the three feedback interventions were also effective in preventing treatment failure (Clinical Support Tools and the provision of patient progress feedback to therapists). The Clinical Support Tool intervention was effective not only in terms of the amount of outcome enhancing effect, but also in the rate of patient recovery. The current state of evidence appears to support the efficacy and effectiveness of feedback interventions in enhancing treatment outcome.

Nan, Yucen. "High-Credibility Edge Analytic System for Early Medical Intervention." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2022. https://hdl.handle.net/2123/27309.

Abstract:
The tremendous upsurge in the size of datasets has started gaining momentum a decade ago in science, finance, and every slice of our everyday life. The same scenario of the data volume explosion also arose in medical healthcare, and the elaborate management and exhaustive exploration of these heterogeneous data play important roles in modern medical care services. Traditional healthcare systems have been unable to cope with this complicated situation. After the popularity of digitized medical records and the evolution of the worldwide network interconnection, cloud computing has been proposed and successfully applied in healthcare with its advantages in competitive advantages, information sharing, and dynamic resources. However, along with the growing aspiration of patients, it is inevitable to gradually reform the structure of the healthcare system from the hospital-oriented centralized healthcare system to the patient-oriented distributed mobile healthcare systems (also termed as mHealth). Moreover, IoT (Internet of Things) provides an efficient and structured way to implement distributed patient-oriented mHealth systems, which inevitably leads to the exponential generation of medical data. To better adapt to the requirements (like time and energy consumption) of mHealth, edge computing has emerged as an effective implementation to complement and improve mobile healthcare systems supported by cloud computing. It is a big step to make healthcare systems more sensitive and flexible. Establishing the edge-based smart healthcare system is one of the best methods to alleviate the gigantic press on public medical care. This thesis aims to present the high-credibility edge analytic system for early medical intervention, covering every stage of the entire medical IoT ecosystem, which can be applied to non-specific or general disease treatments. This thesis summarizes the open issues for each stage within the system and further proposes corresponding solutions: from multi-view learning to improve learning performance to the implementation of interpretable results for medical prediction and analysis in conjunction with the outbreak of the COVID-19. And finally, under the consideration of the entire system architecture, security is guaranteed vertically interpretable analysis of edge distributed computing. These works cover almost all stages of the entire medical IoT ecosystem. We have given a variety of practical application scenarios and obtained the corresponding expected results through detailed and feasible experiments.

Wong, Angela Sai On. "A fully automatic analytic approach to budget-constrained system upgrade." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/26670.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis describes the development of a software package to upgrade computer systems. The package, named OPTIMAL, solves the following problem: given an existing computer system and its workload, a budget, and the costs and descriptions of available upgrade alternatives for devices in the system, what is the most cost-effective way of upgrading and tuning the system to produce the optimal system throughput? To enhance the practicality of OPTIMAL, the research followed two criteria: i) input required by OPTIMAL must be system and workload characteristics directly measurable from the system under consideration; ii) other than gathering the appropriate input data, the package must be completely automated and must not require any specialized knowledge in systems performance evaluation to interpret the results. The output of OPTIMAL consists of the optimal system throughput under the budget constraint, the workload and system configuration (or upgrade strategy) that provide such throughput, and the cost of the upgrade. Various optimization techniques, including saturation analysis and fine tuning, have been applied to enhance the performance of OPTIMAL.

Wong, Kwok Wai Johnny. "Development of selection evaluation and system intelligence analytic models for the intelligent building control systems." Thesis, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, 2007. https://eprints.qut.edu.au/20343/1/c20343.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
With the availability of innumerable ‘intelligent’ building products and the dearth of inclusive evaluation tools, design teams are confronted with the quandary of choosing the apposite building control systems to suit the needs of a particular intelligent building project. The paucity of measures that represent the degree of system intelligence and indicate the desirable goal in intelligent building control systems design further inhibits the consumers from comparing numerous products from the viewpoint of intelligence. This thesis is organised respectively to develop models for facilitating the selection evaluation and the system intelligence analysis for the seven predominant building control systems in the intelligent building. To achieve these objectives, systematic research activities are conducted to first develop, test and refine the general conceptual models using consecutive surveys; then, to convert the developed conceptual frameworks to the practical models; and, finally, to evaluate the effectiveness of the practical models by means of expert validations.----- The findings of this study, on one hand, suggest that there are different sets of critical selection criteria (CSC) affecting the selection decision of the intelligent building control systems. Service life, and operating and maintenance costs are perceived as two common CSC. The survey results generally reflect that an ‘intelligent’ building control system does not necessarily need to be technologically advanced. Instead, it should be the one that can ensure efficiency and enhance user comfort and cost effectiveness. On the other hand, the findings of the research on system intelligence suggest that each building control system has a distinctive set of intelligence attributes and indicators. The research findings also indicate that operational benefits of the intelligent building exert a considerable degree of influence on the relative importance of intelligence indicators of the building control systems in the models. This research not only presents a systematic and structured approach to evaluate candidate building control systems against the CSC, but it also suggests a benchmark to measure the degree of intelligence of one control system candidate against another.

Abstract:
Climate change driven by fossil fuels consumption demands a quick energy transition to a carbon-neutral society. One of the most affected systems by this paradigm shift is, without a doubt, the electric power system. Once designed with few, typically high pollutant production nodes on the transmission side, production is also located in the distribution side, with a very high number of DERs, primarily renewable. This change, however, comes with a cost: many, intermittent small resources are hard to manage. They cannot always guarantee the meeting of demand, creating difficulties to the reliability, security, and power quality of the system. As a result, the demand side is becoming more and more active, as its contribution will be essential in addressing the new challenges. Moreover, diverse storage systems have been recently researched, prototyped, and commercialized that allow even more flexible management of the system, also creating other types of loads such as EVs. Such loads will modify load patterns in ways difficult to anticipate, which poses serious questions on how to reinforce the current distribution and transmission assets. Moreover, the role of the electricity markets, once liberalized to ensure low energy prices to all the consumers, are becoming a central tool for system operators. Indeed, markets are expected to procure all the flexibility needed to meet unexpected generation, load, and infrastructural contingencies. In this context, simulation, forecasting, and automated decision-making tools derived from business and data analytics are becoming crucial for modern power systems design, planning, and operation. During the PhD, the author has worked on research projects such as PREDICT and PODCAST, intending to develop data analytics tools better to manage distributed resources and all the related challenges. This thesis homogenizes the work done by framing it in the context of two great revolutions: one is the modern power system revolution, and the other is the advent of the analytics revolution, which has been possible thanks to the emergence of BD paradigm. The developed applications will be framed as particular cases of analytics subfields (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, or prescriptive) after detailing the methodological aspects of the involved analytics branch that have much broader use than the single applications presented. In Chapter 1, this work is introduced by presenting the two current paradigm shifts of energy transition and data analytics and explaining how the two are interacting in the context of power systems. Some key definitions are laid out that will help to clarify the concepts explained in the following chapters. In Chapter 2, descriptive and diagnostics analytics and their possible applications to power systems are presented in the context of power systems. As an application, the proposed IGSC algorithm, devised during the PhD, is illustrated, which allows for flexible probabilistic modeling and simulation of quantities of interest via light online and adaptive clustering. In Chapter 3, predictive analytics, with a particular focus on forecasting, is presented, by following the CRISP-DM framework, together with some of its many applications present in the literature of power systems. Applications of distribution network load forecasting, building energy forecasting, and PV short-term forecasting are presented, all developed in the context of the projects PREDICT and PODCAST. In Chapter 4, the final step of analytics, that is, prescriptive analytics, is described together with some of the applications to the power system field. Battery profile optimization and optimal sizing and siting, developed as a functionality of a modern DMS, are the applications of this chapter and are drawn from the PODCAST project. Afterward, in the Conclusions, the key findings are summarized together with some final comments. Finally, the publications produced during the acs{phd}, and contributed projects, collaborations, and attended courses, are listed, while references cited in this thesis conclude the dissertation.

Abstract:
In today's competitive business world, it is important for decision makers to have access to decision support tools. One of these decision making areas is supplier selection in e-procurement. Supplier selection is a multi-criteria decision making process that deals with the optimization of conflicting objectives. If it is not supported by a system, this would be a complex and time consuming process. In spite of the fact that the term "supplier selection" is commonly used in the literature, few efforts have been dedicated to develop a system based on any of these methods. In this thesis, we propose a web based supplier selection decision support system based on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. To validate our choice of the Fuzzy AHP model and also to validate the conceptual design of our supplier selection decision support system, we conducted a case study in a local hospital.

Abstract:

Making a decision today is quite important, especially in companies, where the consequences can bring benefits or costs. Sometimes the decisions to be made are complex and we need to evaluate many criterions that can involve several factors. In those cases, it is not easy to have a good overview of all choices and for this reason it is important to have a system that helps us in making complex decisions, when it is not possible to evaluate all the alternatives manually. This thesis describes different algorithms and tools that can aid in the process of making decisions. Based on the review of existing tools a new web based application is proposed. The new tool, Decision Maker, uses both the full Analytical Hierarchical Process approach and Chainwise Paired Comparisons method to evaluate different alternatives.

Abstract:

There are a number of decision making problems in which Geographical Information System (GIS) has employed to organize and facilitate the procedure of analyzing the problem. These GIS-based decision problems which typically include a number of different criteria and alternatives are generally analyzed by Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA).Different locations within a geographical area represent the alternatives by which the overall goal of the project is achieved. The quality of achieving the goal is evaluated by a set of criteria which should be considered in the work. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) which is a powerful method of MCDA generally can organize spatial problems and decides which alternatives are most suitable for the defined problems. However due to some intrinsic uncertainty in the method, a number of authors suggest fuzzifying the method while others are against fuzzification of the AHP.

The debate over fuzzifying AHP is going on and attempt for finding that was mostly in theory, and little, if any; practical comparison between the AHP and fuzzified AHP has done. This work presents a practical comparison of AHP and fuzzy AHP in a GIS-based problem, case study, for locating a dam in Costa Rica, considering different criteria. In order to perform the AHP and fuzzy AHP in the GIS-based problem and calculating weights of the criteria by the methods, some computer codes have written and developed in MATLAB.

The comparisons between the AHP and fuzzy AHP methods are done on result weights and on the result final maps. The comparison between the weights is repeated on different levels of uncertainty in fuzzy AHP then all the results are compared with the result of AHP method. Also this study for checking the effect of fuzzification on results is suggested Chi-Square test as a suitable tool.

Comparisons between the resulting weights of the AHP and fuzzy AHP methods show some differences between the methods. Furthermore, the Chi-Square test shows that the higher level of uncertainty in the fuzzy AHP, the greater the difference in results between the AHP and fuzzy AHP methods.

Abstract:
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to create an overview of analytic CRM systems which are offered in the Czech Republic with the emphasis on systems which can be used for marketing processes of the firms. The overview contains the reflection of new trends in CRM systems and marketing and the development to the future. In the last decade there is a huge development of CRM systems, which are generally known as sales force automation and less as an instrument for marketing management of the companies. Last but not least CRM is mistaken with information systems, even if the CRM concept is known for a lot of years and was developed from marketing, which is very often forgotten. The topic of this diploma thesis is originally view on CRM from marketing perspective and creation of compact view of analytic CRM systems, which are offered in the Czech Republic. Emphasis is put on using of these systems for marketing management and the target is disproving the myths, which are spoken about CRM as well CRM systems. Orientation of this document is mainly on analytic CRM systems, which has the most development in the last decades and can be used very well for marketing functions in companies. There is also a large development of marketing and CRM systems. The target is also making a summary of these trends and makes a hypothesis if CRM systems are developed according the future of marketing, if the CRM systems manage the reaction on this things.

Full text
Abstract:
It is estimated that nearly 100 various environmental product certification rating tools are implemented in the United States construction and real estate industries. Choice of a certain building sustainability measurement tool depends on the specific need for reflection of buildings’ impact on the natural and urban environment as well as its tenants. Selection of the appropriate rating system is a decision-making process performed by the project client (landlord of the building, potential or current tenant) which can be affected by clients’ insufficient knowledge or otherwise be biased. The result of selection decision has significant consequences for the project design, construction process complexity and entire life-cycle of the building. In this work, an effort is made to facilitate decision-making process of best environmental rating alternative selection for a “green building” project. The analytic hierarchy process is used to perform unbiased decision making on the environmental rating selection. The decision process has been evaluated from the landlord and the tenant perspectives. The findings of this study show that for the landlord, it would be enough to be certified with a single-attribute rating that covers only one characteristic of building sustainability and, according to AHP analysis, satisfies all significant landlord’s requirements for the environmental rating system. The main conclusion of the study is that selection of environmental rating is a multicriteria problem that should take into consideration the requirements from landlord and tenant as well as the environmental ratings characteristics but not based on the distinct assessment of the mentioned factors.

Full text
Abstract:
Monitoring data-intensive scientific infrastructures in real-time such as jobs, data transfers, and hardware failures is vital for efficient operation. Due to the high volume and velocity of events that are produced, traditional methods are no longer optimal. Several techniques, as well as enabling architectures, are available to support the Big Data issue. In this respect, this thesis complements existing survey work by contributing an extensive literature review of both traditional and emerging Big Data architecture. Scalability, low-latency, fault-tolerance, and intelligence are key challenges of the traditional architecture. However, Big Data technologies and approaches have become increasingly popular for use cases that demand the use of scalable, data intensive processing (parallel), and fault-tolerance (data replication) and support for low-latency computations. In the context of a scalable data store and analytics platform for monitoring data-intensive scientific infrastructure, Lambda Architecture was adapted and evaluated on the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid, which has been proven effective. This is especially true for computationally and data-intensive use cases. In this thesis, an efficient strategy for the collection and storage of large volumes of data for computation is presented. By moving the transformation logic out from the data pipeline and moving to analytics layers, it simplifies the architecture and overall process. Time utilised is reduced, untampered raw data are kept at storage level for fault-tolerance, and the required transformation can be done when needed. An optimised Lambda Architecture (OLA), which involved modelling an efficient way of joining batch layer and streaming layer with minimum code duplications in order to support scalability, low-latency, and fault-tolerance is presented. A few models were evaluated; pure streaming layer, pure batch layer and the combination of both batch and streaming layers. Experimental results demonstrate that OLA performed better than the traditional architecture as well the Lambda Architecture. The OLA was also enhanced by adding an intelligence layer for predicting data access pattern. The intelligence layer actively adapts and updates the model built by the batch layer, which eliminates the re-training time while providing a high level of accuracy using the Deep Learning technique. The fundamental contribution to knowledge is a scalable, low-latency, fault-tolerant, intelligent, and heterogeneous-based architecture for monitoring a data-intensive scientific infrastructure, that can benefit from Big Data, technologies and approaches.

Abstract:
Strategic management of wildlands for fire is increasingly a mix of traditional firescience, climatology and human perceptions. Not only must managers be expert atmodeling fuels and fire behavior, they must also understand human behavior, and theeffects of climate on landscapes. We hypothiszed that areas in national forests differspatially in their importance to stakeholders, including both the public and landmanagers. That this difference is based upon the inclusion of factors not typically foundin wildland fire models. To test this hypothesis we used a multidimensional approach toassess the spatial variability several factors including recreation, property values and fuelmoisture. This approach combined a geographic information system with the analytichierarchy process to predict and test the current distribution of areas in national forestsimportant to stakeholders.Inclusion of stakeholders appears to improve the validity and useability of aspatial decision support system. Comparing the model created in this dissertation withseveral others demonstrates that it is important to strike the right balance betweenstakeholders and technical experts when designing and creating a model. It is alwaysbeneficial, however, to a significant level of stakeholder involvement.Areas important for fire mitigation efforts depended on the stakeholder oraudience rating the model. Raters from the U.S. Forest Service tended to favor areas withhigh fire probability scores, while those from the Park Service prefered recreation areasand places people value. In both cases, locations people had easy access to, such as alongroads and trails were favored. These results confirmed the hypothesis that areas of importance are differentbased on the individual rating the model. Further testing and refinement of the modelincludes expanding the study area beyond the southwestern United States as wells asobtaining better sources of data with finer spatial resolutions.

Abstract:
Modelling is an important technique in the comprehension and management of complex systems. Queueing network models capture most relevant information from computer system and network behaviour. The construction and resolution of these models is constrained by many factors. Approximations contain detail lost for exact solution and/or provide results at lower cost than simulation. Information at the resource and interactive command level is gathered with monitors under ULTRIX'. Validation studies indicate central processor service times are highly variable on the system. More pessimistic predictions assuming this variability are in part verified by observation. The utility of the Generalised Exponential (GE) as a distribution parameterised by mean and variance is explored. Small networks of GE service centres can be solved exactly using methods proposed for Generalised Stochastic Petri Nets. For two centre. systems of GE type a new technique simplifying the balance equations is developed. A very efficient "building bglloocbka"l. is presented for exactly solving two centre systems with service or transfer blocking, Bernoulli feedback and load dependent rate, multiple GE servers. In the tandem finite buffer algorithm the building block illustrates problems encountered modelling high variability in blocking networks. A parametric validation study is made of approximations for single class closed networks of First-Come-First-Served (FCFS) centres with general service times. The multiserver extension using the building block is validated. Finally the Maximum Entropy approximation is extended to FCFS centres with multiple chains and implemented with computationally efficient convolution.

Due to the increasing importance of the financial market over the past decades, credit risk has become a paramount issue in investment, loan spreads, corporate solvency, trends and prospetcs, etc. Credit risk evaluation models may be classified in two broad categories: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative models seek to analyze information from financial statement and indexes, while qualitative models focus on the analysis of intangible variables that affect global business. These models typically follow a top-down approach by analyzing the industry risk, competitiveness and peer comparison and management. The aim of this thesis is to present an industry risk assessment model based on multicriteria analysis methods that can measure the strengh of variables that affect the industries of Brazilian economy, as well as the influence between them. The model is based primarily on the Weighted Influence Non-Linear Gauge System method. Concerning human judgements about the variables, the model is founded on the use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process method. The result from the model is presented through risk levels, applied to fourteen industries in the Brazilian economy. The thesis closes with a discussion of results, as well as with an outline to future research directions.

Abstract:
This thesis was initiated in the context of enhancing the user experience for analyzing data due to the increase of the volume of data related to this activity. On the one hand, users’ psychological needs for the simple use of analytic applications are paid more attention than before; on the other hand, the task they are willing to conduct is getting more and more complicated, which may cause memory overload that influences the task performance. To ensure that both aspects are taken into account, the designers should provide a proper information and design a proper interface that meets both users’ needs and the requirements of their activity. In this research, we are interested in improving the task recommitment following a task suspension or interruption in the context of a visual data analysis task. The multitasking nature of user actions and limited storage capacity of human working memory cause difficulties in re-engaging an interrupted or suspended task. Therefore, it is beneficial to have a memory supplementation tool that supports users to recommit their task in optimal conditions. A literature review first leads to the positioning of our research on the enactive approach and sensorimotor perception that consider the tool as an artifact configuring the interaction between the user and the task, in two modes the “put down” mode and the “in hand” mode. From this point of view, we have found that the commonly used cognitive memory model ignores the role of interaction with the external world in the formation of the memory, and consequently ignores the “in hand” dimension of the artifacts in one memory construction. Therefore, we complete this model with the embodied memory, which gives us a new perspective to design an appropriate memory tool that serves as a supplementation of our perceptual system. Finally, the design principles in human-computer interaction and UX helped us build a tool and conduct an experimental plan highlighting the link between changes in perception conditions and changes in the dynamics of interaction. As a conclusion, the research problem is introduced in terms of how we can provide users with a relevant context to recommit to resolving a task after interruption. The design proposal needs to be explored, designed and evaluated. The first experiment, the exploratory study, analyzes the perception of interactive applications by experienced designers. This study helped us construct a vocabulary of evaluation of the design for a memory supplementation support and guided us for the design considering these criteria. In the second experiment, we develop a tool based on a function that we call the “history path”, which permits to show, in a specific window of the user interface, some of the steps of a previous task resolution that a user has performed during previous experience (or to simulate a resolution task interruption). We set up a simple (minimalist) experiment simulating a problem-solving task, which was recorded to evaluate the extent to which a history path support can help the user for efficient recovering of an interrupted task. The first part of this experiment allows us to confirm the potential use of this function and helps us explore the design space. In the second part, we experiment two different tools, based on two history path representations, a static one and a dynamic one. The evaluation results allow us to understand the technical conditions of a positive experience for which task recovery is facilitated. In this second experiment, several means for recording the user experience were mobilized: the evaluation of the durations and gaze frequencies on area of interest in the interface window by eye tracking, the recording of the verbalizations during the RTA (Retrospective Think Aloud) session, and the semantic evaluation

The study of longitudinal analysis plays an important role in contemnor medicine. The results may address the way to improve the efficacy and the efficiency of therapy. In most of problems, time occurs as an important factor for analyzing the data. Survival analyses are therefore to treat time as outcome. In survival analyses, probabilities are calculated not just for groups but individuals in a group. For clinical work, it is a great sufficiency for us to create the beneficiary of medical cares. Cancer has become the first leading cause of deaths in Taiwan since 1982. Although the medicine and technology have significantly improved, there are still bottlenecks in the cancer treatment areas which need to be broken. Analyzing of cancer patient’s data can be a useful way to increase the effectiveness of cancer treatments. Hence that we are going to build a web-based survival analysis, OTSAS (abbreviated from Online Analytic System for Tumor Survival Analysis), offering the convenient dynamic query, that is able to assist the medical researchers efficiently and easily analyze the structure of information by using three famous survival statistical analyses. This thesis uses the data of CRDMS (Cancer Registry Data Management System) from VGH Taipei (Taipei Veterans General Hospital), which contains over 50500 cancer cases from year 1993 to year 2002, including the demography properties database and cancer properties database. This thesis provides three famous survival analysis methods: First is the Kaplan Meier method for generating the survival curve; second is the Logrank test for generating and comparing the survival curves of two groups, the last one is the Cox Proportional Hazards Model for estimating the risk ratio of some prognosis factors.

Abstract:
Standard techniques used to analyze a system's response with uncertain system parameters or inputs, are generally Importance sampling methods. Sampling methods require a large number of simulation runs before the system output statistics can be analyzed. As model fidelity increases, sampling techniques become computationally infeasible, and Reliability methods have gained popularity as an analysis method that requires significantly fewer simulation runs. Reliability analysis is an analytic technique which finds a particular point in the design space that can accurately be related to the probability of system failure. However, application to dynamic systems have remained limited. In the following thesis a First Order Reliability Method (FORM) is used to determine the failure probability of a dynamic system due to system/input uncertainties. A pendulum cart system is used as a case study to demonstrate the FORM on a dynamic system. Three failure modes are discussed which correspond to the maximum pendulum angle, the maximum system velocity, and a combined requirement that neither the maximum pendulum angle or system velocity are exceeded. An explicit formulation is generated from the implicit formulation using a Response Surface Methodology, and the FORM is performed using the explicit estimate. Although the analysis converges with minimal simulation computations, attempts to verify FORM results illuminate current limitations of the methodology. The results of this initial study conclude that, currently, sampling techniques are necessary to verify the FORM results, which restricts the potential applications of the FORM methodology. Suggested future work focuses on result verification without the use of Importance sampling which would allow Reliability methods to have widespread applicability.

The analysis and classification of biomedical signals is an important issue in medical field. In machine learning, building models and analyzing physiological signals are used to find the physiological signal pattern of patient status. The process uses weighting, which indicates different relationships between physiological signals and patient status. We build up a distributed system which contains feature extraction and classification. Users can utilize this system to analyze biomedical signals and give feedbacks to the system. After users give feedback, the accuracy of classification can be improved. We utilized this cloud platform to accelerate the process of electroencephalography signal analyzing in seizure patients. In the feature extraction part, it reduces the computing time from 1920 minutes to 85 minutes. In the classifier part, it reduces the computing time from 2058 minutes to 119 minutes.

Consumer transaction data analysis has become an important issue within commercial platforms. Detailed shopping patterns and customers’ behaviors and characteristics have already been used to make marketing strategies. Given the increasing amount of data and the rising complexity of marketing promotions, data analysts are now facing the challenges of how to find hidden trends and identify target customers correctly, effectively and efficiently. Traditional analysis techniques based on data management platforms are difficult to catch up with the ever changing marketing requirements. In this thesis, we present an information visualization system to facilitate the data exploration process, and further improve the performance of customer relationship management. Our coordinated-multiple-view system helps analysts to find customers with similar behaviors, observe characteristics of interesting subsets, and figure out the correlation between data attributes. In addition, a distribution view is embedded in our system, which visually demonstrates automatic consumer clustering results generated by dimensional reduction algorithm, with several supportive interactions to further offer a quicker and clearer perspective of relationship among consumers’ multivariate data. We validate our work with the consumer transaction data from a famous department store chain in Taiwan. A set of use cases and findings are provided to show the usability of the system.

In this study, a research is conducted on users continuing use in Next Generation Analytic System based on Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT). Efforts are made to generalize factors that influence continuing use behavior through the literature review on the topic of IS Continuance. So far, there hasn´t been any research in ECT investigating continuing use in terms of Mobile Value. Therefore, we extended the variables of ECT to better explain the continuing use of Next Generation Analytic System under different context. The survey, which is conducted through snowballing and random sampling on Next Generation Analytic System users, receives 55 valid questionnaires from paper sources. After PLS analysis, the study has find the Perceived Usefulness, User Satisfactions and Mobile Value are the most important factors that direct to use the Next Generation Analytic System. User Satisfactions and Perceived Usefulness will be the factor of Information Quality Confirm and System Quality Confirm to user’s continuance intention. However, System Quality Confirm was found to have no significant effects on Perceived Usefulness. The result of study, in academic, we can extent this topic to Next Generation Analytic System and it will make up for past inadequacies of research in this area. In the practice, this result can provide the reference of the Next Generation Analytic System vendors in design functionality.

The HLA is the standard to design a distributive simulation environment nowadays. This thesis presents a research to study the possibility of applying the HLA technique to the distributive analytical wargame system. Specifically, this research focuses on the method of upgrading an existing single machine wargame system into an HLA-based federation. Our work starts from studying the existing wargame system. The analysis to decompose this existing system into three functional modules then follows. Three separate federates are also designed accordingly. To further enrich the simulating process, a 3D federate is added which brings up the topic of connecting the real-time system with the faster-than-real-time system. So the time management for the analytic wargaming federation is also given in this thesis. Since the existing analytic wargame software was original implemented by the Delphi language, a COM interface was designed to interface with the RTI. The RTI that we used is the C++ version run on Windows 2000 that was downloaded from DMSO web site. Finally, the biggest advantage of upgrading the conventional wargame system into an HLA-based system is that we can easily modify its assessment model. The conventional wargame system often embeds the assessment model into the system and that makes it difficult to be adapted for a new operational strategy. After we decompose the existing wargame system into the red, blue, and assessment federates, the assessment is only computed in the assessment federate which is a modular component of the entire system. We can easily experiment different strategies by fine-tuning the assessment model. Furthermore, the red and blue federates become modular components under the HLA-based analytical wargame system, we can reuse these components to construct a different type of analytical federation. In this thesis, our study suggests that the advantages of designing an HLA-based analytical wargame system are two-folded. In one way, we can easily change or fine-tune the assessment model for different scenarios. In the other way, the HLA standard can be used to design an analytical wargame system of high reusability.

Designing and implementing Performance Measurement System (PMS) is an integral part of management control systems. This paper presents an original and novel approach to designing and benchmarking of PMSs for a manufacturing environment through a hybrid framework which overcomes the shortcomings of earlier models. A detailed review was taken of previous models and their limitations were identified. The present hybrid PMS model seeks to improve the earlier research models by the following novel approach: implementation of a Knowledge Based (KB) expert system, Gauging Absences of Pre-requisite (GAP) analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology in an integrated KBPMS. The paper has shown that the present hybrid (KB-AHP-GAP) approach to developing a KBPMS model is a realistic methodology. The combination of the KB-AHP-GAP approach allows detailed benchmarking of the PMS existing within a manufacturing organisation. Furthermore, this approach can assist in identifying and prioritising the key decisions that need to be actioned to overcome the existing PMS shortcomings.

Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) has developed the High Level Architecture (HLA) as the standard Department of Defense (DoD) protocol to be used for distributed simulations to ease interoperability between software developed by DoD organizations. Runtime Infrastructure (RTI) is the software implementation of the interfaces defined by the HLA. RTI has several functional capabilities, one of which is time management. Using RTI time management services, it is possible to link federates (simulations) with different time management requirements. One example of this is the case where a set of real-time simulations has to communicate with one or more sets of faster-than-real-time simulations. In this paper, we address the problems and offer some possible research directions. We also describe a system architecture to link two or more groups of simulations with different time management requirements into multiple federations using RTI. Our experiment provides us an encouraging result. Our experimental result brings up another important research direction for the wargame system. That is how can we connect the interactive wargame system with the analytical wargame system? In this way, the analytic wargame system can become a course-of-action(COA) evaluation tool for the player during the simulation. That is, we can use the synchronization point to partition the interactive wargame simulation into different phases. The analytical wargame system can then be used as the evaluation tool between two consecutive phases. Furthermore, since the red and blue federates become modular components under the HLA-based analytical wargame system, we can reuse these components to construct a different type of analytical federation. In this thesis, we suggest that the HLA standard can be used to design the distributed computing environment. Modularize and standardize the HLA time management, it can upgrade the convenience to design the relative federations and federates. Because the modular and reusability of HLA, it can be the basis technology of the joint war force analytical simulation.

The success inducts the enterprise information system actually is not easy; the principal factor lies in the enterprise information system to surmount the different information system and it appears complex; the material needs the complete standardization, and meets the company demand. If the induct of the enterprise information system fails, replies the original condition is difficult, and the price is high, often affecting enterprise's normal operation. Therefore the success inducting the enterprise information system is quite important to the enterprise, simultaneously it is also a big risk and challenge; the first step to avoid failing is to choose the right enterprise information system which the manufacture provided. When the enterprises carry on the information system evaluation work, they often ask : How to choose the contractor and the evaluation criterion; about this question, by inquiring the experts and the reference, the evaluation criterion must rely on the individual case. The enterprise information system's choice, having massive alternative scheme, multi-condition decision-making formulation, and it relies on one another. This research according to the literature discussion discovers the choice of the enterprise information system's consideration factor, proposing that a systematized, the multi-stratification plane's feasible appraisal pattern and the evaluation method, the applied analytic network process (ANP) solution system multi-objectives and interdependence's question, the construction evaluation pattern, assisting the enterprises to carry on the enterprise information system's choice. This research's contribution lies in the establishment to have the objectivity appraisal criterion. Expecting that the achievement of the research may provide the enterprise to carry on the evaluation enterprise information system's reference.

In recent years, most people work in the companies to use computer is very common. Computers, networks and information systems have become an important tool of daily life now. However, the computer operating systems and applications exist potential vulnerabilities and risks according to the vulnerability database records. Managers must control these vulnerabilities and reduce the damage of system from external: such as invasion of hackers, tampering or damage of data, implantation of Trojans, or internal: such as poor design, loss of data, etc. The managers must reduce risks and information security incidents. This study used a measure of the relative weights that the system security status about vulnerability of the system. Many websites that provide vulnerability lists and vulnerability scanning tools don't include the interdependencies among various vulnerability. Therefore, the major research of this study focuses on vulnerability assessment. In this study, according to the services of information system, we can identify three main resource groups, and get metrics of vulnerability from OSVDB(Open Source Vulnerability Database) and CVSS(Common Vulnerability Scoring System). Then we get relative weights of vulnerability using the ANP(Analytic Network Process) technique and find out the highest groups of vulnerability in the system. The assessment framework of this study can be applied to other organizations to develop into the vulnerability assessment of evaluation model. This model not only improves the system security but also enables the administrator to visualize the impact of various vulnerability in the final result. Further, this model can be used as security solution assessment tool.

Currently, Taiwan has numbers of security companies. The issue of investor decision-making which the OTC listed security company worth to invest is worthy to discuss. In this study, we use five financial ratios point of view, which were short-term liquidity, long-term liquidity, asset utilization, debt ratio and market value to evaluate security company financial performance in 2009.Using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Grey Relational Analysis to discuss security company financial performance respectably then give ranking. Comparing Analytic Hierarchy Process Finally, this study used Kendall's W test found that the expert views and analysis of the results of this study are consistent. By Kendall's W test results found that this study is a valuable study. Using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Gray System Theory these two approaches and explain how they are difference. The main purpose of this paper stand in the position of investors to choose which security company is the best investment target. Using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to understand which financial ratio factors will affect the attractive of people. Give the recommendation and improvements to the securities companies which had poor financial performance.

In this challenging environment, businesses adopt many strategies, including IT and non-IT, to raise their market share. In this situation, the more customers you reach and handle the more profit you may get. Most of companies try their best to use all kinds of business activities to not only reach new customers but also keep the old customers. According to the reach result, Pepers & Rogers (1993), the cost of landing new customers is higher than keeping existing customers for 6 to 9 times. Therefore, it is very important about how to keep in touch with the existing customers and maintain the presented relationship. Because of this reason, the CRM, Customer Relationship Management, system is becoming one of the vital systems in the modern businesses. A suitable CRM system, which should be fitted into the using company in business culture and environment, can help marketing people to find the valuable customers, to utilize the values of those customers, and to process some efective risk management for their companies. However, it is very important in how to evaluate and choose a suitable CRM system in objective way. Besides, the system should be able to increace the ROA, Return on Asset, of IT inverstment and then raise the profit of that business. This research is a helping document to illustrate how to use ANP, Analytic Network Process, to build up a feasiable evaluation model to assist businesses to solve the above issues. I try to use Microsoft Excel , which can be easily found in most of computers, to implement an ANP model to provide businesses an objective perspective to analyze, evaluate, and choose the suitable CRM system from a lot of providers.

Abstract The vibration period of many linear isolation systems are 2 to 3 seconds which is close to the predominant period of near-fault earthquake, and resonance may occur. For this reason, nonlinear isolation systems are developed to avoid resonance. The frequency of nonlinear isolation system is not fixed, so it can keep the structure from resonance. Numerical simulation is conducted for nonlinear isolation system and the corresponding linear system under free vibration, sine wave, far-field and near-fault earthquake. The linear and nonlinear isolations performance of the system due to harmonic and seismic excitations will also be demonstrated and investigated in this study. In the proposed system, a mass block is pin connected to a set of circular rolling disk. If the pin is connected eccentrically to the center of the disk, the restoring force becomes nonlinear. In addition, energy is dissipated by adding viscous damper or friction damper. The nonlinear governing equation of motion for the eccentric rolling isolation system is derived based on Lagrange’s equation. The isolation frequency as a function of the eccentricity and initial angle will be investigated through free vibration analysis. By the numerical simulation of free vibration, the results show that if the eccentricity or initial angle is small, the dynamic behavior of the system is almost the same as the linear rolling behavior. When the ground excitation input is sine wave and its frequency equal to the linearized frequency, the numerical simulation results show that if no dissipation mechanism, the linear system will be divergent, but nonlinear systems will be stable because of its nonlinear behavior. When the viscous damper dissipation mechanism is adopted, under resonant frequency of the sine wave, linear isolation system is no longer divergent, but the maximan response of the nonlinear system is only about 50% of the linear system. When the PGA of El Centro and Chi-Chi earthquakes varies from 0.05 to 1 (g), the result shows that the superior of the nonlinear system over the linear system becomes more obvious as PGA increases. Therefore, with viscous damping, the nonlinear isolation system performs better than the linear one in both acceleration ratio and maximum displacement under sine wave, far field under or near fault earthquakes excitation. When isolation install friction damper, under far field and near-fault earthquake excitation, the best design of friction parameters are very close. Under resonant frequency of sine wave, the response of linear system will be divergent if the friction parameter is not big enough, while nonlinear system is stable and no resonance occurs at same dutam. Then change the PGA of two earthquakes, the range from 0.05 to 1 (g), the result shows that the displacement of the linear isolation system is closer to that of the nonlinear one. With the increases of PGA, nonlinear isolation display the better isolation effect, but linear system don’t have this advantage. Summarized above, with friction damper, the response of nonlinear systems and linear systems are similar, but if the PGA of near-field and far-field earthquakes becomes larger, nonlinear isolation system shows more and more effect than linear system. Thus, by appropriate design, the nonlinear rolling isolation system is feasible in this research.
