Abstract:
Each year Forbes bestows a handful of “edu-preneurs” with the 30 Under 30 Award in Education (Under30), designating those individuals as the best hope for revolutionizing and reforming education. Boasting low recipient rates, Forbes elevates the manufactured expertise of awardees and the importance of their organizations and ventures. Further, Forbes employs the language and norms of neoliberalism to articulate a pro-market vision of education reform. This social network analytic (SNA) study seeks to untangle the edu-preneur network and critically examine the connections between awardees, their organizations, judges, and the larger education reform network. To this end, we utilized descriptive analyses and SNA. We find evidence that Under30 serves as a mechanism for promoting social closure and ideological homophily within education reform networks. Further, we consider the policy implications that such awards may have on public discourse and policy creation.

Abstract:
Effective management of the learning process of additional professional education programs at the university is condi-tioned by providing unique needs of students as requested by employers in the real sector of the economy in accord-ance with the selected competencies and areas of training. At the same time, when solving a number of tasks, the algo-rithm of which is unknown, there are more and more actively developed and implemented systems using artificial neu-ral networks, which allow classifying and analyzing data for making managerial decisions. Based on such widespread use of artificial neural networks, there is an increasing need for systematization of data to improve the performance of software analytical complex processing, storage, search and analysis of data, for the implementation of training pro-grams at all stages of the life cycle, taking into account uncertainty. The developed software-analytical complex is pre-sented on the example of a model of an intelligent system used to control and analyze the acquired competencies of students, built on the basis of an ontological approach, a model of continuous quality improvement, which makes it possible to determine the interaction of business processes, their sequence and performance benchmarks. To imple-ment this theory, a neural network node scheme of a software analytic complex capable of data-driven learning has been developed. The presented scheme of a neural network node assumes the use of a supervised learning algorithm when a training dataset arrives at the input.

Abstract:
Activities aimed at the improvement of instruments of rural development have been undertaken in Europe for many years. Those focusing on the changing the ownership structure, implemented through the traditional process of land consolidation, are gradually replaced by multifunctional activities for rural development, considering elements of environmental protection, agricultural landscape management, and solutions concerning soil and water protection. Such development must be accompanied by the application of new pro-ecological design and material-technological solutions regarding the construction of rural roads. The roads should be designed with possibly the fullest consideration of a rich resource of data on a given area, performance of many spatial analyses, and decision making in the scope of selection of the most appropriate solutions acceptable to all stakeholders (e.g. residents, farmers, local authorities, entrepreneurs, and investors). The article presents the concept of a model solution of the development of the rural road network based on the multiple-criteria model of spatial analyses with the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process method. The research process was conducted in the geographic information systems environment. The importance of the proposed methodology was verified in actual conditions based on the example of the Harta village located in the southern part of Poland. The obtained results suggest that the process of development of rural roads with the application of the multiple-criteria model of spatial analyses is more accurate, more efficient than the traditional design method, and considers the requirements of the sustainable development of rural areas. Moreover, it permits presentation of solutions in the form of maps to the local community, almost in real time, and making excellent decisions with its active participation.

Abstract:
High expression of the anti-apoptotic TNFAIP8 is associated with poor survival of the patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and one of the functions of TNFAIP8 is to inhibit the pro-apoptosis Caspase-8. We aimed to analyze the immunohistochemical expression of Caspase-8 (active subunit p18; CASP8) in a series of 97 cases of DLBCL from Tokai University Hospital, and to correlate with other Caspase-8 pathway-related markers, including cleaved Caspase-3, cleaved PARP, BCL2, TP53, MDM2, MYC, Ki67, E2F1, CDK6, MYB and LMO2. After digital image quantification, the correlation with several clinicopathological characteristics of the patients showed that high protein expression of Caspase-8 was associated with a favorable overall and progression-free survival (Hazard Risks = 0.3; p = 0.005 and 0.03, respectively). Caspase-8 also positively correlated with cCASP3, MDM2, E2F1, TNFAIP8, BCL2 and Ki67. Next, the Caspase-8 protein expression was modeled using predictive analytics, and a high overall predictive accuracy (>80%) was obtained with CHAID decision tree, Bayesian network, discriminant analysis, C5 tree, logistic regression, and Artificial Intelligence Neural Network methods (both Multilayer perceptron and Radial basis function); the most relevant markers were cCASP3, E2F1, TP53, cPARP, MDM2, BCL2 and TNFAIP8. Finally, the CASP8 gene expression was also successfully modeled in an independent DLBCL series of 414 cases from the Lymphoma/Leukemia Molecular Profiling Project (LLMPP). In conclusion, high protein expression of Caspase-8 is associated with a favorable prognosis of DLBCL. Predictive modeling is a feasible analytic strategy that results in a solution that can be understood (i.e., explainable artificial intelligence, “white-box” algorithms).

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the role of bots in the dissemination of health information, both in favor of and opposing vaccination against COVID-19. Study design: An observational, retrospective, time-limited study was proposed, in which activity on the social network Twitter was analyzed. Methods: Data related to pro-vaccination and anti-vaccination networks were compiled from 24 December 2020 to 30 April 2021 and analyzed using the software NodeXL and Botometer. The analyzed tweets were written in Spanish, including keywords that allow identifying the message and focusing on bots’ activity and their influence on both networks. Results: In the pro-vaccination network, 404 bots were found (14.31% of the total number of users), located mainly in Chile (37.87%) and Spain (14.36%). The anti-vaccination network bots represented 16.19% of the total users and were mainly located in Spain (8.09%) and Argentina (6.25%). The pro-vaccination bots generated greater impact than bots in the anti-vaccination network (p < 0.000). With respect to the bots’ influence, the pro-vaccination network did have a significant influence compared to the activity of human users (p < 0.000). Conclusions: This study provides information on bots’ activity in pro- and anti-vaccination networks in Spanish, within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic on Twitter. It is found that bots in the pro-vaccination network influence the dissemination of the pro-vaccination message, as opposed to those in the anti-vaccination network. We consider that this information could provide guidance on how to enhance the dissemination of public health campaigns, but also to combat the spread of health misinformation on social media.

Abstract:
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks enable diverse communication for the Internet of Things (IoT). However, existing BLE mesh implementations cannot simultaneously achieve low-power operation, symmetrical communication, and scalability. A major limitation of mesh networks is the inability of the BLE stack to handle network-scalable time synchronization. Pulse-coupled oscillators (PCOs) have been studied extensively and are able to achieve fast and reliable synchronization across a range of applications and network topologies. This paper presents a lightweight physical (PHY) layer accelerator to the BLE stack that enables scalable synchronization command with a PCO. The accelerator is a fully digital solution that can be synthesized with only the standard cells available in any silicon technology. This paper provides a detailed analysis of PCO-based BLE mesh networks and explores per-node system-level requirements. Finally, the analytical results are validated with measurements of a custom radio node based on the ubiquitous AD9364 transceiver.

Abstract:
Abstract The design of water distribution networks (WDNs) is made to match velocity and pressure constraints that guaran- tee operational efficiency. Thus, pipes with lower cost are selected to attend these conditions. However, this proce- dure can harm other characteristics of the network, as for example its resilience and expansion capacity. Therefore, this paper presents a case study in which the multicriterial analysis is used to design a WDN. First, a cognitive map is built to identify the main criteria to be considered during the design process. Then, the Delphi method is used jointly with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to define the relative weights of each criteria. Finally, three different methods for multicriterial analysis are used to solve the problem: AHP, Electre and Promethee. Keywords: Water distribution network. Optimization. Multicriterial analysis.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Gender-based violence perpetrated within the family is an issue of global importance. It is no coincidence that the statistics on domestic violence committed during the ongoing pandemic have shown it as a worrying phenomenon crossing national borders and social levels. In China the consideration of domestic violence as an element of destabilisation of the family unit is rather recent. In fact, the traditional patriarchal values on which the Chinese family based its relations considered intra-family violence – particularly towards women – an accepted and fully integrated component in the normal course of relations among people belonging to the same lineage. The Pandora’s Box, which for centuries has concealed and neglected the problem, has only been uncovered since the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995, which started the debate on the issue of gender-based violence and brought China to draw up annual reports on the female condition. The inclusion of the category “domestic violence” in a national law dates back to 2001 (Marriage Law) and the first ad hoc legislation to 2016. The relationship between domestic violence, social and family stability was the leitmotif that accompanied the official documents of the legislative process that led to the drafting of the Law against Domestic Violence of the PRC. This latter has focused on a prevention network aiming primarily to empower civil society, but overshadowing mere legal instruments. By analysing all the phases of this legislative process, the book aims to reflect on the regulatory instruments – in particular, divorce and the system of protection orders – and on the features of these institutions created to limit and control the problem of family violence. Furthermore, this analysis will provide insights into the social and linguistic implications that the issue of domestic violence has determined in China in the past up to nowadays.

Abstract:
Networks for Social Impact is a broad review of how nonprofits, businesses, and governments work together to tackle social problems. The book takes a systems approach to explain how networks make a social impact, and when they are unlikely to do so. It argues that network design and management is not a one-size-fits-all formula. Instead, the type of social issue, the mechanism for social impact, environment, and resources available each determine appropriate choices. Drawing on research from public administration, psychology, business, network science, social work, and communication, it synthesizes what we know about how to best design and manage networks. It includes illustrations from 30 original case studies; they describe groups of organizations addressing issues such as gender-based violence, educational outcomes, senior care, veterans’ services, mental health and wellness, and climate change. Additionally, the volume describes critical issues that leaders address in creating and managing networks, including social issue analysis, network governance, securing and managing funding, dealing with power and conflict, using data effectively, and managing change. Each chapter includes tools for network leaders to use to handle these issues. This book is neither a Pollyannaish, pro-collaboration account of the benefits of network approaches, nor is it a critical view of these efforts. Instead, it highlights the opportunities and challenges of networks.

Abstract:
This chapter presents a new multi-level investigation of discourse that combines network analysis with qualitative content analysis. This book is the first to employ this method for multi-linguistic comparative research. The chapter first develops an understanding of discourse, which seeks to address some of the challenges discourse analysis has faced. It then describes the sources, the sampling procedure, the process of qualitative content analysis, and the logic of the applied coding scheme. A final section introduces details of the discourse network analysis, which combines the unique insight of qualitative interpretation, and the structural insights derived through the rigour of network analysis. This combination can pre-empt some of the concerns that critics have voiced about new quantitative approaches to analysing text. Its added value lies in the identification of clusters in the network, which point to discursive formations that structure meaning.

Abstract:
The mobilization by young people in the Russian Federation illuminates an important part of the stabilization of the country’s authoritarian regime structures from 2005 to 2011. First the political developments of the episode are contextualized by contrasting the regime’s insecurity in 2005 with the situation by 2011. After discussing the socio-political context of young people during the post-Soviet transition years, the chapter explores the findings from the discourse network analysis. Public discourse and political mobilization interact and the chapter discusses the spectrum of politically involved youth from pro-Kremlin groups to the very diverse opposition, including liberal democratic movements, fascists, and communists. It is argued that the regime’s success in capturing control over youth discourse and young people was critical in the consolidation of Vladimir Putin’s power.

Abstract:
Recent work in the philosophy of language has emphasized the importance of ‘stimulus-independent’ representational abilities in understanding both the nature of concepts and the extent to which concepts play a role in the thoughts of non-humans. This recent work dovetails in significant and interesting ways with Terrence Deacon’s work on symbols and with more recent work in continental philosophy on symbolism, language, actor-network theory, and analytic work in the philosophy of skill. It is in light of this work that this chapter revisit Whitehead’s book Symbolism: Its Meaning and Effect. In particular, it argues that the claim of many commentators, both early and late, that Whitehead is a panpsychist is a mistake, and relies upon an understanding of experience and subjectivity that Whitehead seeks to account for rather than presuppose. In his account of experience and subjectivity, it is rather a non-subjective, pre-individual process of individuation that allows for the possibility of an identifiable subjective experience, and hence for the claims of panpsychism. Whitehead’s understanding and account of these processes is able to account for an indeterminate variety of types and degrees of experience, and in a way that avoids both a reductive materialism and a reductive panpsychism.

Abstract:
Abstract Too much attention is paid to the absence of women leaders around the world rather than their presence, leaving a gap in our understanding of the difference women leaders make on the lives of fellow women. With women leaders an under-studied group and with the law profoundly important in advancing women’s rights, The Woman President brings together these two domains to become the first-ever comparative study of women’s leadership and the law. It offers the legal and political science scholarship new ways for understanding the impact of female presidential leadership on women’s everyday lives by analysing the legal legacies of four women presidents: Corazon Aquino (1986–1992), Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (2001–2010), Megawati Sukarnoputri (2001–2004) and Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga (1994–2005). The book relies on aninnovative methodology, which includes the use of new the Gender Legislative Index. The findings challenge and expand our understanding of what constitutes a woman’s issue, bringing within its analysis labour law reform, democracy, anti-corruption, poverty-alleviation and pro-peace interventions, alongside more oft-considered terrain such as gender-based violence, reproductive rights, gender equality quotas and women’s rights at work. This book also offers important insights into the institutional and social mechanisms that enable women leaders to lead for women, including women’s movements, women legislators, women bureaucrats and global networks of women presidents and prime ministers. The Woman President offers new tools and sharpens old ones to provide an essential comparative contribution to our knowledge about the dynamics and impact of female presidencies, drawing from the realities of the Asia region.

Abstract:
Managing wireless networks is challenging due to the requirement of ensuring good performance while coexisting with other networks. This paper analyses a production wireless network that is also used for research. The wireless network at Universidade Federal Fluminense uses home grown technology which was funded by RNP in the SCIFI work group, which is composed of a software controller and low cost access points compatible with OpenWRT. The analysis of the wireless network is performed modeling the network as a directed graph, in which nodes are the access points and edges represent vicinity. Algorithms for choosing the wireless channel in order to maximize performance by minimizing interference both by access points which are controlled or not by the system. The characteristics of associations of user devices to the wireless network are shown. The results of the analysis show that, after the installation of new channel, up to 75% of unmanaged networks in the vicinity of an access point switch their channel to adapt to the new wireless configuration.

Abstract:
Abstract Assembling CNTs into a thin film Buckypaper (BP) effectively creates high CNT content nanocomposites. BP consists of entangled CNT networks with a porous 3D structure in which CNTs are randomly distributed. The interaction between the dispersed CNT and the polymer or between the CNT network and the surrounding polymer occurs via interphase. The interphase is the region between two constituents and has different local morphology and properties than the constituents. The morphology and properties of the interphase between the CNT network and polymer have not been given enough attention in the literature. Atomic Force Microscopy-based Peak Force Quantitative Nanomechanics Mapping (PFQNM) technique has been used to characterize the CNT network interphase at the nanoscale with high lateral resolution. Probe actual stiffness, tip radius, tapping force, deformation level, and deflection sensitivity for heterogeneous BP are discussed. The nano-scale material properties are extracted from the DMT contact mechanic’s model. The authors show that reduced modulus and deformation can examine the interphase zone thickness and properties. Weibull model is used to investigate the distribution of an interphase thickness and the size of the CNT network.

Abstract:
Virtual environments such as online stores (e.g. Amazon, Google Play and Booking) adopt a collaborative strategy of evaluation and reputation, where users classify products and services. User's opinion represents the satisfaction level of a rated item. The set of ratings of an item is a reference to its reputation/quality. Therefore, the automatic identification of a usersatisfaction related to an item, considering its textual evaluation, is a tool with singular economic potential. With deep learning researches evolution in sentiment analysis based in aspects, opportunities to apply several neural networks in this context arisen. However, the data representation models applied in these works focus only on Embeddings pre-trained networks as a way to perform feature extraction. In this way, this work aims to present a comparison between data representation techniques and deep networks approaches, to analyze which of them have better results in classifying categories of aspects. Thus, we can seethat TF-IDF with a Convolution Neural Network (CNN) had an F1 measure of 0.93%, being at least 0.02% higher than the others approaches applied in this work.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The main objective of this study is to perform Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) using a detailed representation of fractured reservoirs. This is achieved by creating a simplified representation of the fracture network while preserving the main characteristics of the high-fidelity model. We include information at different scales in the UQ workflow which allows for a large reduction in the computational time while converging to the high-fidelity full ensemble statistics. Ultimately, it allows us to make accurate predictions on geothermal energy production in highly heterogeneous fractured porous media. The numerical reservoir simulation tool we use in this work is the Delft Advanced Research Terra Simulator (DARTS). It is based on Finite Volume approximation in space, fully coupled explicit approximation in time, and uses the novel linearization technique called Operator-Based Linearization (OBL) for the system of discretized nonlinear governing equations. We use a fracture network generation algorithm that uses distributions for length, angles, size of fracture sets, and connectivity as its main input. This allows us to generate a large number of complex fracture networks at the reservoir scale. We developed a pre-processing algorithm to simplify the fracture network and use graph theory to analyze the connectivity before and after pre-processing. Furthermore, we use metric space modeling methods for statistical analysis. A robust coarsening method for the Discrete Fracture Matrix model (DFM) is developed which allows for great control over the degree of simplification of the network’s topology and connectivity. We apply the framework to modeling of geothermal energy extraction. The pre-processing algorithm allows for a hierarchical representation of the fracture network, which in turn is utilized in the reduced UQ methodology. The reduced UQ workflow uses the coarser representation of the fracture networks to partition/rank the high-fidelity parameter space. Then a small subset of high-fidelity models is chosen to represent the full ensemble statistics. Hereby, the computational time of the UQ is reduced by two/three orders of magnitude, while converging to similar statistics as the high-fidelity full ensemble statistics. The methods developed in this study are part of a larger project on a prediction of energy production from carboniferous carbonates. The final goal is to perform UQ in pre-salt reservoirs which are characterized by complex reservoir architecture (i.e., large karstification and fracture networks). The UQ of fractured reservoirs is typically done in the petroleum industry using effective media models. We present a methodology that can efficiently handle a large ensemble of DFM models, which represent complex fracture networks and allow for making decisions under uncertainty using more detailed high-resolution numerical models.

Abstract:
Deep learning has been increasingly used in various applications such as image and video recognition, recommender systems, image classification, image segmentation, medical image analysis, natural language processing, brain–computer interfaces, and financial time series. In deep learning, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is regularized versions of multilayer perceptrons. Multilayer perceptrons usually mean fully connected networks, that is, each neuron in one layer is connected to all neurons in the next layer. The full connectivity of these networks makes them prone to overfitting data. Typical ways of regularization, or preventing overfitting, include penalizing parameters during training or trimming connectivity. CNNs use relatively little pre-processing compared to other image classification algorithms. Given the rise in popularity and use of deep neural network learning, the problem of tuning hyperparameters is increasingly prominent tasks in constructing efficient deep neural networks. In this paper, the tuning of deep neural network learning (DNN) hyper-parameters is explored using an evolutionary based approach popularized for use in estimating solutions to problems where the problem space is too large to get an exact solution.

Based on the network paradigm of complexity in the work, a systematic analysis of the dynamics of the largest stock markets in the world and cryptocurrency market has been carried out. According to the algorithms of the visibility graph and recurrence plot, the daily values of stock and crypto indices are converted into a networks and multiplex networks, the spectral and topological properties of which are sensitive to the critical and crisis phenomena of the studied complex systems. This work is the first to investigate the network properties of the crypto index CCI30 and the multiplex network of key cryptocurrencies. It is shown that some of the spectral and topological characteristics can serve as measures of the complexity of the stock and crypto market, and their specific behaviour in the pre-crisis period is used as indicators- precursors of critical phenomena.

Abstract:
The article deals with the ways in which social networks and the blogosphere influence the formation and implementation of a PR campaign. Examples from the political sphere (election campaigns, initiatives), business (TV brands, traditional and online media) have revealed the opportunities that Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, YouTube and blogs promote in promoting advertising, ideas, campaigns, thoughts, or products. Author blogs created on special websites or online media may not be as much of a tool in PR as an additional tool on social media. It is noted that choosing a blog as the main tool of PR campaign has both positive and negative points. Social networks intervene in the sphere of human life, become a means of communication, promotion, branding. The effectiveness of social networks has been evidenced by such historically significant events as Brexit, the Arab Spring, and the Revolution of Dignity. Special attention was paid to the 2019 presidential election. Based on the analysis of individual PR campaigns, the reasons for successful and unsuccessful campaigns from the point of view of network communication, which provide unlimited multimedia and interactive tools for PR, are highlighted. In fact, these concepts significantly affect the effectiveness of the implementation of PR-campaign, its final effectiveness, which is determined by the achievement of goals. Attention is drawn to the culture of communication during the PR campaign, as well as the concepts of “trolls”, “trolling”, “bots”, “botoin industry”. The social communication component of these concepts is unconditional. Choosing a blog as the main tool of a marketing campaign has both positive and negative aspects. Only a person with great creative potential can run and create a blog. In addition, it takes a long time. In fact, these two points are losing compared to other internet marketing tools. Further research is interesting in two respects. First, a comparison of the dynamics of the effectiveness of PR-campaign tools in Ukraine in 2020 and in the past, in particular, at the dawn of state independence. Secondly, to investigate how/or the concept of PR-campaigns in social networks and blogs is constantly changing.

The Changing Shape of the World Automobile Industry: A Multilayer Network Analysis of International Trade in Components and Parts. Institute for New Economic Thinking Working Paper Series, January 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.36687/inetwp173.

Full text
Abstract:
In 2018, after 25 years of the North America Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the United States requested new rules which, among other requirements, increased the regional con-tent in the production of automotive components and parts traded between the three part-ner countries, United States, Canada and Mexico. Signed by all three countries, the new trade agreement, USMCA, is to go into force in 2022. Nonetheless, after the 2020 Presi-dential election, the new treaty's future is under discussion, and its impact on the automo-tive industry is not entirely defined. Another significant shift in this industry – the acceler-ated rise of electric vehicles – also occurred in 2020: while the COVID-19 pandemic largely halted most plants in the automotive value chain all over the world, at the reopen-ing, the tide is now running against internal combustion engine vehicles, at least in the an-nouncements and in some large investments planned in Europe, Asia and the US. The definition of the pre-pandemic situation is a very helpful starting point for the analysis of the possible repercussions of the technological and geo-political transition, which has been accelerated by the epidemic, on geographical clusters and sectorial special-isations of the main regions and countries. This paper analyses the trade networks emerg-ing in the past 25 years in a new analytical framework. In the economic literature on inter-national trade, the study of the automotive global value chains has been addressed by us-ing network analysis, focusing on the centrality of geographical regions and countries while largely overlooking the contribution of countries' bilateral trading in components and parts as structuring forces of the subnetwork of countries and their specific position in the overall trade network. The paper focuses on such subnetworks as meso-level structures emerging in trade network over the last 25 years. Using the Infomap multilayer clustering algorithm, we are able to identify clusters of countries and their specific trades in the automotive internation-al trade network and to highlight the relative importance of each cluster, the interconnec-tions between them, and the contribution of countries and of components and parts in the clusters. We draw the data from the UN Comtrade database of directed export and import flows of 30 automotive components and parts among 42 countries (accounting for 98% of world trade flows of those items). The paper highlights the changes that occurred over 25 years in the geography of the trade relations, with particular with regard to denser and more hierarchical network gener-ated by Germany’s trade relations within EU countries and by the US preferential trade agreements with Canada and Mexico, and the upsurge of China. With a similar overall va-riety of traded components and parts within the main clusters (dominated respectively by Germany, US and Japan-China), the Infomap multilayer analysis singles out which com-ponents and parts determined the relative positions of countries in the various clusters and the changes over time in the relative positions of countries and their specialisations in mul-tilateral trades. Connections between clusters increase over time, while the relative im-portance of the main clusters and of some individual countries change significantly. The focus on US and Mexico and on Germany and Central Eastern European countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) will drive the comparative analysis.

Abstract:
One of the well-known results of the theory of management is the fact, that multi-stage hierarchical organization of management is unstable. Hence, the ideas expressed in a number of works by Don Tapscott on advantages of network organization of businesses over vertically integrated ones is clear. While studying the basic tendencies of business organization in the conditions of globalization, computerization and internetization of the society and the results of the financial activities of the well-known companies, the authors arrive at the conclusion, that such companies, as IBM, Boeing, Mercedes-Benz and some others companies have not been engaged in their traditional business for a long time. Their partner networks performs this function instead of them. The companies themselves perform the function of system integrators. The Tapscott’s idea finds its confirmation within the framework of a new powerful direction of the development of the modern interdisciplinary science – the theory of the complex networks (CN) [2]. CN-s are multifractal objects, the loss of multifractality being the indicator of the system transition from more complex state into more simple state. We tested the multifractal properties of the data using the wavelet transform modulus maxima approach in order to analyze scaling properties of our company. Comparative analysis of the singularity spectrumf(®), namely, the difference between maximum and minimum values of ® (∆ = ®max ¡ ®min) shows that IBM company is considerably more fractal in comparison with Apple Computer. Really, for it the value of ∆ is equal to 0.3, while for the vertically integrated company Apple it only makes 0.06 – 5 times less. The comparison of other companies shows that this dependence is of general character. Taking into consideration the fact that network organization of business has become dominant in the last 5-10 years, we carried out research for the selected companies in the earliest possible period of time which was determined by the availability of data in the Internet, or by historically later beginning of stock trade of computer companies. A singularity spectrum of the first group of companies turned out to be considerably narrower, or shifted toward the smaller values of ® in the pre-network period. The latter means that dynamic series were antipersistant. That is, these companies‘ management was rigidly controlled while the impact of market mechanisms was minimized. In the second group of companies if even the situation did changed it did not change for the better. In addition, we discuss applications to the construction of portfolios of stock that have a stable ratio of risk to return.

Abstract:
The general goals of the BARD research grant US-4423-11 are to understand how Or regulates carotenoid accumulation and to reveal novel strategies for breeding agricultural crops with enhanced β-carotene level. The original objectives are: 1) to identify the genes and proteins in the Or regulatory network in melon; 2) to genetically and molecularly characterize the candidate genes; and 3) to define genetic and functional allelic variation of these genes in a representative germplasm collection of the C. melo species. Or was found by the US group to causes provitamin A accumulation in chromoplasts in cauliflower. Preliminary genetic study from the Israeli group revealed that the melon Or gene (CmOr) completely co-segregated with fruit flesh color in a segregating mapping population and in a wide melon germplasm collection, which set the stage for the funded research. Major conclusions and achievements include: 1). CmOris proved to be the gene that controls melon fruit flesh color and represents the previously described gflocus in melon. 2). Genetic and molecular analyses of CmOridentify and confirm a single SNP that is responsible for the orange and non-orange phenotypes in melon fruit. 3). Alteration of the evolutionarily conserved arginine in an OR protein to both histidine or alanine greatly enhances its ability to promote carotenoid accumulation. 4). OR promotes massive carotenoid accumulation due to its dual functions in regulating both chromoplast biogenesis and carotenoid biosynthesis. 5). A bulk segregant transcriptome (BSRseq) analysis identifies a list of genes associated with the CmOrregulatory network. 6). BSRseq is proved to be an effective approach for gene discovery. 7). Screening of an EMS mutation library identifies a low β mutant, which contains low level of carotenoids due to a mutation in CmOrto produce a truncated form of OR protein. 8). low β exhibits lower germination rate and slow growth under salt stress condition. 9). Postharvest storage of fruit enhances carotenoid accumulation, which is associated with chromoplast development. Our research uncovers the molecular mechanisms underlying the Or-regulated high level of carotenoid accumulation via regulating carotenoidbiosynthetic capacity and storage sink strength. The findings provide mechanistic insights into how carotenoid accumulation is controlled in plants. Our research also provides general and reliable molecular markers for melon-breeding programs to select orange varieties, and offers effective genetic tools for pro-vitamin A enrichment in other important crops via the rapidly developed genome editing technology. The newly discovered low β mutant could lead to a better understanding of the Or gene function and its association with stress response, which may explain the high conservation of the Or gene among various plant species.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: This systematic review aims to compare the effects of different drugs to reduce postoperative inflammatory complications (pain, edema, and trismus) after mandibular third molar surgery by applying a frequentist network meta-analysis approach. To this end, the proposed study will answer the following questions: 1) Among diverse drugs currently available, which postoperative pharmacological regimen is the most efficient to reduce pain after mandibular third molar surgery? 2) Is the pre-emptive analgesia effective in reducing pain immediately after the mandibular third molar surgery? In this case, 3) Which preoperative pharmacological regimen is the most efficient? 4) Among diverse corticosteroids currently available, what is the best option to control the edema induced by the surgery? 5) What is the optimal dose and route of administration of corticosteroids prior to mandibular third molar surgery to control the pain/ edema induced by the surgery? Condition being studied: Inflammatory complications after mandibular third molar surgery (Pain, edema, and trismus).
