En milieu montagneux et forestier, la localisation de la route et ses caractéristiques géométriques sont des informations cruciale pour de nombreuses applications écologiques et liées à la gestion forestière. Par ailleurs, le lidar aéroporté topographique est devenu une technique de télédétection reconnue pour la caractérisation fine de la surface terrestre : les Modèles Numériques de Terrain (MNT) en sont le produit standard.Cet article aborde le problème de la détection de routes sur de grandes surfaces (>1000 km2) dans de tels environnements. Pour cela, nous avons proposé une méthode fondée sur l’hypothèse que les routes peuvent être modélisées par des objets planaires suivant une direction privilégiée et avec de fortes variations du relief dans la direction orthogonale. La connaissance seule du MNT lidar à 1 m de résolution est suffisante dans notre processus, qui ne requiert donc pas le traitement supplémentaire des nuages de points 3D lidar ni de données à retour d’onde complète. L’intégralité de l’analyse se fait donc en deux dimensions. Tout d’abord, trois attributs morphologiques sont extraits du MNT et introduits dans une classification supervisée par Forêts Aléatoires des zones potentiellement "routes". Ensuite, un graphe est créé à partir de ce masque de focalisation afin de combler les éventuels manques et occlusions dus principalement à la végétation. En particulier, les noeuds sont sélectionnés avec un Processus Ponctuel, puis le graphe est élagué en suivant le modèle de route initial. Enfin, la largeur et la pente des routes sont estimées grâce au MNT avec une analyse orientée-objet. D’une part, on obtient une qualité de détection convaincante, tant au niveau de l’exhaustivité (>80%) que de la précision géométrique, supérieure à celle des bases de données topographiques 2D existantes. De plus, de nouvelles routes sont détectées grâce à la capacité du lidar à restituer le terrain sous le couvert végétal. Cependant, en présence d’un trop faible nombre de mesures lidar au niveau du sol, des routes peuvent ne pas être restituées. Enfin, nous montrons que notre méthode est adaptée à une analyse sur de grandes surfaces puisqu’elle permet des rendements de moins de 2 minutes par km2.

Cet article traite des processus d’écriture d’apprenants universitaires de français langue étrangère (L2/L3). Ces écritures ont été recueillies à l’aide du programme GenoGraphiX-Log qui est construit sur les exigences de la génétique textuelle et de la théorie mathématique des graphes. Notre corpus consiste en 44 écritures produites en français par des locuteurs ayant comme L1 soit l’anglais, soit le mandarin soit le finnois. Le premier objectif est de mieux décrire, en fonction des L1 des participants, les opérations d’écriture mises en oeuvre en français lors de la réalisation d’une même tâche. Le second objectif est d’évaluer comment la visualisation, basée sur la théorie des graphes et sur des méthodes statistiques inductives, soutient cette analyse des processus d’écriture. Les résultats se basent sur deux analyses issues des graphes : une analyse en composantes principales (ACP) et la visualisation des écritures exemplaires (les plus proches des centres de gravité de chaque groupe). Ces deux analyses complémentaires nous permettent de mesurer les spécificités des trois groupes et d’approfondir qualitativement l’analyse de signatures scripturales. Notre corpus et nos analyses montrent l’intérêt de l’utilisation des méthodes mixtes dans l’analyse des processus complexes d’écriture à l’aide d’outils de visualisation.

Sous l'influence première d'un article de Barnes (1954), les études anthropologiques sur les réseaux sociaux ont ouvert une voie de recherches qui apparaît encore pleine de promesses. Il faut bien avouer, pourtant, que jusqu'à maintenant peu d'analyses fondées sur des données empiriques ont emporté la conviction. Les études de réseaux n'ont pas encore fait la preuve de leur fécondité. Il leur manque un fondement théorique, pourtant disponible dans la théorie des graphes qui est justement une théorie des réseaux, qu'ils soient sociaux ou autres. Comme l'a noté Mitchell, la jonction n'existe pas — ou pas assez — entre les spécialistes de la théorie des graphes et les chercheurs sur le terrain (1969, p. 35). Pourtant, quelques bons exposés ont été écrits par des anthropologues, qui indiquent bien ce qu'on pourrait tirer d'une utilisation plus poussée de la théorie des graphes (en particulier Mitchell, 1969; Barnes, 1969a; et surtout Barnes, 1972). Malgré ces mises en place, la plupart des études empiriques ne dépassent guère l'analyse situationnelle qui, comme le note Barnes (1972, p. 13), peut fort bien se passer de la notion de réseau, en plus d'être inapte au dégagement d'hypothèses générales. Nous allons donner, à la fin de cet article, une brève illustration d'une étude proprement structurale des réseaux sociaux, au sens où l'entendent Harary, Norman et Cartwright (1968), dans leur ouvrage sur les graphes orientés. En utilisant des données recueillies sur le terrain, nous montrerons comment la notion d'articulation, tirée de la théorie des graphes, permet de poser et de traiter des problèmes théoriques, mais aussi pratiques, qui nous semblent propres aux réseaux sociaux. Auparavant, nous voudrions discuter de certaines questions préalables à une analyse vraiment spécifique des réseaux sociaux. Ils ont trait au concept même de réseau, à la constitution des unités d'analyse, et aux différentes voies d'analyse qui s'offrent au chercheur.

Résumé L’objectif de l’article est d’évaluer la résilience d’un territoire face à des perturbations économiques, ici l’aire urbaine de Montpellier, au travers de l’étude de la morphologie des réseaux d’entreprises locales. Pour réaliser cette analyse, nous avons mené un recensement des dépôts communs de brevets des entreprises innovantes locales. Cette approche a permis une modélisation de ces réseaux avec la théorie des graphes sur plusieurs plages temporelles. Au final, cette analyse permet de mettre en évidence au sein de ces réseaux locaux d’innovation le rôle joué par des entreprises-pivots dans la résilience d’un territoire, notamment en termes de pérennité de son tissu entrepreneurial innovant mais également de niveau d’emploi.

Dans cet article, nous proposons une méthode de caractérisation locale des textures des images de très haute résolution spatiale, dans lesquelles l'hypothèse de stationnarité est peu respectée.Une approche ponctuelle (i.e. non-dense) est d'abord introduite pour la représentation de l'image en utilisant un ensemble de pixels d'intétêt au lieu de la totalité des pixels de l'image. Un graphe pondéré est ensuite construit à partir de ces pixels représentatifs. Le signal de texture, porté sur ce graphe, est ensuite analysé à travers une transformée en ondelettes sur graphe. La classification en texture, implémentée ici de façon non-supervisée, est donc réalisée par la classification des coefficients d'ondelettes sur le graphe. Les expérimentations appliquées aux images panchromatiques Pléiades nous donnent des résultats très prometteurs avec une bonne précision de classification tout en gardant une compléxité intéressante.

L’étude est réalisée sur un échantillon d’entreprises de la région de la Soummam. Pour mener notre étude, nous avons élaboré un questionnaire pour formuler un champ d’hypothèses et leurs évaluations par les entreprises enquêtées, ensuite un champ utile de réponses est réalisé suivant le modèle « Morphol » GODET. M, (2001).
Les résultats de notre enquête ont permis la construction d’un système de variables et d’indicateurs, la visualisation des résultats sur des graphes et des plans de proximité et ensuit procéder à leur analyse et à l’identification des scénarios clés à la performance dans les entreprises enquêtées.

Abstract This paper presents a supervised approach to the recognition of Cross-document Structure Theory (CST) relations in Polish texts. Its core is a graph-based representation constructed for sentences. Graphs are built on the basis of lexicalised syntactic-semantic relations extracted from text. Similarity between sentences is calculated as similarity between their graphs, and the values are used as features to train the classifiers. Several different configurations of graphs, as well as graph similarity methods were analysed for this task. The approach was evaluated on a large open corpus annotated manually with 17 types of selected CST relations. The configuration of experiments was similar to those known from SEMEVAL and we obtained very promising results.

Facial Beauty Prediction (FBP) is an important visual recognition problem to evaluate the attractiveness of faces according to human perception. Most existing FBP methods are based on supervised solutions using geometric or deep features. Semi-supervised learning for FBP is an almost unexplored research area. In this work, we propose a graph-based semi-supervised method in which multiple graphs are constructed to find the appropriate graph representation of the face images (with and without scores). The proposed method combines both geometric and deep feature-based graphs to produce a high-level representation of face images instead of using a single face descriptor and also improves the discriminative ability of graph-based score propagation methods. In addition to the data graph, our proposed approach fuses an additional graph adaptively built on the predicted beauty values. Experimental results on the SCUTFBP-5500 facial beauty dataset demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to other state-of-the-art methods.

Cet article propose une adaptation des modules « analyse des risques ferroviaires et ingénierie mécanique » et « diagnostic de systèmes homme-machine appliqué aux systèmes ferroviaires ou guidés » de formation à distance du parcours INERSYG (Ingénierie Ferroviaire et Systèmes Guidés) du Master Transports Mobilités Réseaux de l’Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France. A partir d’études de cas impliquant des aides à la conduite, il s’agit de déterminer les modes de fonctionnement et d’usage en s’appuyant sur différents formalismes tels que celui des arbres de défaillance, celui des réseaux de Petri, celui de bases de règles ou celui des graphes causaux. Les cas sont issus de témoignages d’expert, d’utilisateur ou via les réseaux sociaux par exemple. Ils font l’objet d’une analyse de danger approfondie suivant une démarche de pédagogie active et inclusive avec des groupes d’étudiants en dernière année de Master. Il s’agit d’identifier des dissonances, i.e. des conflits d’autonomie en termes de connaissances, de disponibilité ou de possibilités d’action pour un même décideur ou entre décideurs. Les résultats sont encourageants et permettent à chacun de découvrir des scénarios potentiellement dangereux relatifs à l’usage de systèmes d’aide à la conduite.

Hyperspectral image classification has been one of the most popular research areas in the remote sensing community in the past decades. However, there are still some problems that need specific attentions. For example, the lack of enough labeled samples and the high dimensionality problem are two most important issues which degrade the performance of supervised classification dramatically. The main idea of semi-supervised learning is to overcome these issues by the contribution of unlabeled samples, which are available in an enormous amount. In this paper, we propose a graph-based semi-supervised classification method, which uses both spectral and spatial information for hyperspectral image classification. More specifically, two graphs were designed and constructed in order to exploit the relationship among pixels in spectral and spatial spaces respectively. Then, the Laplacians of both graphs were merged to form a weighted joint graph. The experiments were carried out on two different benchmark hyperspectral data sets. The proposed method performed significantly better than the well-known supervised classification methods, such as SVM. The assessments consisted of both accuracy and homogeneity analyses of the produced classification maps. The proposed spectral-spatial SSL method considerably increased the classification accuracy when the labeled training data set is too scarce.When there were only five labeled samples for each class, the performance improved 5.92% and 10.76% compared to spatial graph-based SSL, for AVIRIS Indian Pine and Pavia University data sets respectively.

Résumé : Dans cet article, il est question d’évaluer la déforestation dans la périphérie Ouest de la réserve de Biosphère du Dja à travers les techniques de Télédétection et de Système d’Information Géographique. Pour cela, 08 images Landsat de date différentes (2011 à 2018) ont été utilisées pour produire les cartes d’occupation du sol, à travers la méthode de classification supervisée et l’algorithme « maximum likelihood ». Les classes d’occupation de sol retenues pour cette classification sont : forêt dense, forêt dégradée, zone de culture, zone marécageuse, zone d’habitation, sol nu et eau. L’analyse des changements a été faite avec la technique de « change detection ». Les résultats de cette étude ont montré que la déforestation a été importante pendant la période d’étude (2011 – 2018). Les surfaces forestières se sont principalement transformées en zone de culture, marécage, forêt dégradée, sol nu. Le taux de déforestation observé est de 6,8% et dénote une importante baisse du couvert forestier dense. L’étude a montré des tendances de déforestation dans cette périphérie. Elle a permis d’observer que les zones tendancieuses sont concentrées principalement autour de certaines activités anthropiques présentes dans cette zone (la plantation agricole SUDCAM, le barrage de Mekin, les lieux habités). Knowledge graphs are proving to be an increasingly important part of modern enterprises, and new applications of such enterprise knowledge graphs are still being found. In this paper, we report on the experience with the use of an automatic knowledge graph system called Saffron in the context of a large financial enterprise and show how this has found applications within this enterprise as part of the “Conversation Concepts Artificial Intelligence” tool. In particular, we analyse the use cases for knowledge graphs within this enterprise, and this led us to a new extension to the knowledge graph system. We present the results of these adaptations, including the introduction of a semi-supervised taxonomy extraction system, which includes analysts in-the-loop. Further, we extend the kinds of relations extracted by the system and show how the use of the BERTand ELMomodels can produce high-quality results. Thus, we show how this tool can help realize a smart enterprise and how requirements in the financial industry can be realised by state-of-the-art natural language processing technologies.

Une approche méthodologique s'appuyant sur la combinaison de données satellitaires et données de terrain est proposée pour l’estimation du volume-tige de peuplements forestiers hétérogènes ou peu homogènes. L'objectif est d'évaluer la disponibilité forestière, en inventoriant moins de 1% de la surface étudiée et avec une erreur max. de 15%. L'approche consiste en la réalisation de trois étapes principales : i) Analyse de la variance sur le volume-tige, ii) classification des données satellitaires et iii) Désignation et inventaire des pixels-échantillons. L'analyse et le calcul de la variance permet d'orienter les calculs du volume en fonction de sa variabilité dans les différentes strates de la forêt alors que la classification des données satellitaires vise à obtenir une stratification de la forêt. La troisième étape consiste en la sélection de pixels-échantillons sur l'image classifiée puis la géolocalisation, l'installation et le cubage des placettes-terrain correspondantes (même dimension spatiale que le pixel de l'image utilisée). Appliquée sur une futaie peu homogène de pin d'Alep (forêt de Tlemcen, Nord-Ouest algérien), l'approche a permis d'estimer un volume global sur pied du peuplement égal à 30 595 m3 m3±15.6% et ce en inventoriant 0.4% seulement de la surface totale. L'analyse de variance sur 12 placettes-échantillons a mis en évidence le caractère peu homogène de la forêt et la faible variabilité du volume-tige. Cependant, Elle fait apparaître aussi que la stratification apporte une légère amélioration à la précision (15.6%) contre 17.6% sans stratification. La classification supervisée d'une image Landsat (Mai 2002) par la méthode du maximum de vraisemblance (précision moyenne de 96%) a permis de stratifier la zone étudiée en six classes (forêt très dense, forêt dense, forêt claire, matorral, herbacées, autres). Pour chaque strate de forêt, le cubage complet de 4 placettes-échantillons comparables en dimension au pixel (30m—30m), a fourni le volume-tige moyen par pixel alors que la généralisation de celui-ci à l'ensemble des pixels a permis de déterminer le volume total de chaque strate. Vu les confusions générées par la classification supervisée au profit des objets pistes, routes et matorral, le volume global a été revu à la baisse (taux de réduction de 10%) et la valeur du volume total corrigé était de 27 535 m3±15.6%, une erreur, bien que non conforme à celle exigée par l'aménagement forestier (max ±10%), s'approche de celle généralement admise (une moyenne de ±15%) pour certains inventaires simplifiés.

AbstractDisambiguation of authors in digital libraries is essential for many tasks, including efficient bibliographical searches and scientometric analyses to the level of individuals. The question of how to link documents written by the same person has been given much attention by academic publishers and information retrieval researchers alike. Usual approaches rely on publications’ metadata such as affiliations, email addresses, co-authors, or scholarly topics. Lack of homogeneity in the structure of bibliographic collections and discipline-specific dissimilarities between them make the creation of general-purpose disambiguators arduous. We present an algorithm to disambiguate authorships in the Astrophysics Data System (ADS) following an established semi-supervised approach of training a classifier on authorship pairs and clustering the resulting graphs. Due to the lack of high-signal features such as email addresses and citations, we engineer additional content- and location-based features via text embeddings and named-entity recognition. We train various nonlinear tree-based classifiers and detect communities from the resulting weighted graphs through label propagation, a fast yet efficient algorithm that requires no tuning. The resulting procedure reaches reasonable complexity and offers possibilities for interpretation. We apply our method to the creation of author entities in a recent ADS snapshot. The algorithm is evaluated on 39 manually-labeled author blocks comprising 9545 authorships from 562 author profiles. Our best approach utilizes the Random Forest classifier and yields a micro- and macro-averaged BCubed $$\mathrm {F}_1$$ F 1 score of 0.95 and 0.87, respectively. We release our code and labeled data publicly to foster the development of further disambiguation procedures for ADS.

Completing a doctorate degree on time is a multifaceted progression, influenced by many interplaying variables. This paper sought to establish how institutional doctorate supervision practices influence completion rates of doctorate programmes from selected public universities in Kenyan. The student-supervisor collaboration is a critical ingredient in doctorate programme studies. This is because when something goes wrong with either in course of their interaction, the ramification is experienced in the period studies take. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of student-supervisor interaction in doctorate degree programme from selected public universities in Kenya. The Involvement Theory and the Social Support theory were to reveal the reasons for low enrolment and completion rates of doctorates in selected Kenyan public universities. The mixed methods research design were utilised in the current study. Information was obtained from four purposively sampled universities using questionnaires, documentary analysis and interview schedules. Qualitative data was coded and then thematically analysed guided by the study objectives while quantitative data was analysed using percentages and graphs. The findings of the study would be useful for the university managements in understanding the student-supervisor relationship in doctorate programme studies. Furthermore, would also provide information to interested researchers in related topics in graduate studies. The findings of this research will be resourceful to university policy makers, administrators and lecturers to improve on institutional policy framework which could be used to enhance doctorate degree enrolment and completion in Kenyan public universities.

En Haïti, les parcs nationaux ont été créés pour préserver les rares massifs forestiers qui sont constamment menacés par l'agriculture et l'élevage. Toutefois, des études scientifiques sur la dynamique paysagère des écosystèmes forestiers des parcs d’Haïti ont reçu peu d’attention. Cette étude a pour objectif de cartographier et quantifier la perte de couverture forestière dans les parcs nationaux naturels de la Forêt des Pins (PNN-FP2), de La-visite (PNN-LV) et de Macaya (PNN-M) de 1985 à 2018. Une analyse diachronique, grâce à la classification supervisée des images Landsat appuyée sur les outils d'analyse de l'écologie du paysage, a été réalisée. Les résultats montrent une dynamique paysagère matérialisée par des pertes du couvert forestier de 56%, 36% et 46% respectivement au sein du PNN-FP2, PNN-LV et PNN-M entre 1985 à 2018, à travers la dissection et la fragmentation des taches par opposition à la dynamique progressive des surfaces agricoles et du sol nu sous-tendue par la création et l'agrégation des taches. Les taux annuels de déforestation, importants entre 1998/1999-2017/2018, ont varié entre -0,09% et -2,72% selon les parcs. Etant donné que les paysages de ces trois parcs nationaux étudiés sont très dynamiques, il est urgent d'adopter une politique de leur conservation soutenue par des mesures de développement socio-économique local.

Despite the remarkable performance of graph neural networks (GNNs) in semi-supervised learning, it is criticized for not making full use of unlabeled data and suffering from over-fitting. Recently, graph data augmentation, used to improve both accuracy and generalization of GNNs, has received considerable attentions. However, one fundamental question is how to evaluate the quality of graph augmentations in principle? In this paper, we propose two metrics, Consistency and Diversity, from the aspects of augmentation correctness and generalization. Moreover, we discover that existing augmentations fall into a dilemma between these two metrics. Can we find a graph augmentation satisfying both consistency and diversity? A well-informed answer can help us understand the mechanism behind graph augmentation and improve the performance of GNNs. To tackle this challenge, we analyze two representative semi-supervised learning algorithms: label propagation (LP) and consistency regularization (CR). We find that LP utilizes the prior knowledge of graphs to improve consistency and CR adopts variable augmentations to promote diversity. Based on this discovery, we treat neighbors as augmentations to capture the prior knowledge embodying homophily assumption, which promises a high consistency of augmentations. To further promote diversity, we randomly replace the immediate neighbors of each node with its remote neighbors. After that, a neighbor-constrained regularization is proposed to enforce the predictions of the augmented neighbors to be consistent with each other. Extensive experiments on five real-world graphs validate the superiority of our method in improving the accuracy and generalization of GNNs.

Nous proposons d’explorer les difficultés et les apports d’une telle démarche pour l’époque médiévale, en menant une analyse égocentrée du réseau d’Emma (v. 890-934), fille et nièce des souverains robertiens Eudes et Robert, qui épousa le roi des Francs Raoul († 936), dont la trajectoire est éclairée par des sources de différente nature (documents diplomatiques et Annales de Flodoard). En resituant cette reine au cœur de ses liens familiaux, il s’agit de comprendre comment fonctionnait le monde aristocratique qui l’entourait, à une période de bouleversement social entre ère carolingienne et époque féodale. L’article aborde les questionnements méthodologiques relatifs au corpus et la manière dont il peut être exploité de façon quantitative. Puis il souligne à quel point l’élaboration d’une base de données et la visualisation des sources par des graphes constituent des outils réflexifs permettant de définir une typologie des liens sociaux et de comprendre les logiques qui ont présidé à l’élaboration des documents. Les bénéfices d’une telle approche sont nombreux, car celle-ci suscite un véritable renouvellement historiographique sur la pratique du pouvoir souverain au cours du premier xe siècle.

AbstractIn this paper, we present a new method based on co-occurrence graphs for performing Cross-Lingual Word Sense Disambiguation (CLWSD). The proposed approach comprises the automatic generation of bilingual dictionaries, and a new technique for the construction of a co-occurrence graph used to select the most suitable translations from the dictionary. Different algorithms that combine both the dictionary and the co-occurrence graph are then used for performing this selection of the final translations: techniques based on sub-graphs (communities) containing clusters of words with related meanings, based on distances between nodes representing words, and based on the relative importance of each node in the whole graph. The initial output of the system is enhanced with translation probabilities, provided by a statistical bilingual dictionary. The system is evaluated using datasets from two competitions: task 3 of SemEval 2010, and task 10 of SemEval 2013. Results obtained by the different disambiguation techniques are analysed and compared to those obtained by the systems participating in the competitions. Our system offers the best results in comparison with other unsupervised systems in most of the experiments, and even overcomes supervised systems in some cases.

Résumé Fréquemment, les chercheurs ont conceptualisé le conflit travail-famille de façon bidirectionnelle : l’étude des effets de la vie professionnelle à l’endroit de la vie de famille (appelé conflit travail-famille) et celle des effets de la vie de famille à l’égard de la vie d’emploi (appelé conflit famille-travail). Toutefois, les résultats inhérents aux recherches basées sur cette conceptualisation se sont avérés controversés. Autrement dit, très peu d’effort a été déployé afin de différencier entre les effets des différentes formes de ce conflit. Pourtant, Greenhaus et Beutell (1985) en ont proposé une conceptualisation multidimensionnelle, en ajoutant aux deux dimensions directionnelles trois autres supplémentaires liées au conflit de temps, d’effort et de comportement. Ainsi, notre recherche répond à la question générale suivante: la conceptualisation multidimensionnelle du conflit travail-famille est-elle plus efficace pour cerner la réalité de ce phénomène que la conceptualisation bidirectionnelle ? À partir d’un échantillon de 375 sujets provenant du personnel infirmier d’un centre hospitalier, nous avons privilégié une conceptualisation multidimensionnelle dudit conflit (Greenhaus et Beutell, 1985), et ce, afin d’identifier les effets spécifiques aux diverses dimensions de ce conflit. Pour ce faire, nous avons utilisé l’analyse en termes des cartes autoorganisatrices de Kohonen (SOM), cartes qui sont basées sur un réseau de neurones résultant de la méthode d’apprentissage non supervisée (Kohonen, 2001). Les résultats de l’analyse neuronale indiquent qu’il y a six formes de conflit. Deux d’entre elles paraissent générer des effets similaires à ceux obtenus selon la conceptualisation bidirectionnelle (conflit à haute intensité versus conflit à basse intensité), tandis que les quatre autres formes apparaissent engendrer des effets spécifiques, justifiant la nécessité d’appliquer la conceptualisation multidimensionnelle préconisée. En outre, l’analyse de variance appliquée aux données a révélé plusieurs différences significatives entre les six formes de ce conflit et des variables externes liées à des facteurs explicatifs dudit conflit, ainsi qu’à ses conséquences. Cette nouvelle taxonomie, basée sur la conceptualisation multidimensionnelle des conflits travail-famille, contribue à une meilleure compréhension de l’interférence entre la sphère de la vie familiale et celle de la vie professionnelle, en identifiant les formes spécifiques du conflit travail-famille au niveau desquelles une ou plusieurs sources de conflictualité sont en action. Des avenues de recherche et des implications managériales sont déduites à la lumière des résultats enregistrés.

In recent years, on the basis of drawing lessons from traditional neural network models, people have been paying more and more attention to the design of neural network architectures for processing graph structure data, which are called graph neural networks (GNN). GCN, namely, graph convolution networks, are neural network models in GNN. GCN extends the convolution operation from traditional data (such as images) to graph data, and it is essentially a feature extractor, which aggregates the features of neighborhood nodes into those of target nodes. In the process of aggregating features, GCN uses the Laplacian matrix to assign different importance to the nodes in the neighborhood of the target nodes. Since graph-structured data are inherently non-Euclidean, we seek to use a non-Euclidean mathematical tool, namely, Riemannian geometry, to analyze graphs (networks). In this paper, we present a novel model for semi-supervised learning called the Ricci curvature-based graph convolutional neural network, i.e., RCGCN. The aggregation pattern of RCGCN is inspired by that of GCN. We regard the network as a discrete manifold, and then use Ricci curvature to assign different importance to the nodes within the neighborhood of the target nodes. Ricci curvature is related to the optimal transport distance, which can well reflect the geometric structure of the underlying space of the network. The node importance given by Ricci curvature can better reflect the relationships between the target node and the nodes in the neighborhood. The proposed model scales linearly with the number of edges in the network. Experiments demonstrated that RCGCN achieves a significant performance gain over baseline methods on benchmark datasets.

Cet article s’inscrit dans une recherche plus large qui analyse l’acquisition de l’écriture du français par de jeunes élèves, dans le cadre de pratiques régulières d’écritures approchées. La présente étude compare deux corpus comprenant les écrits et explications associées d’une soixantaine d’élèves ayant pratiqué ces écritures approchées tout au long d’une année scolaire, avec autant d’élèves qui n’en n’ont pas bénéficié. Les élèves des deux groupes sont scolarisés dans deux écoles de la banlieue ouest de Paris, inscrites en Réseau d’éducation prioritaire. En fin d’année scolaire, les résultats montrent que les élèves du premier groupe, dont les enseignantes ont été formées à ces écritures approchées, développent des compétences scripturales et métalinguistiques bien supérieures aux seconds. Ils investissent plus rapidement et massivement le domaine phonographique et en perçoivent les formes linguistiques régulières ou non, tout en intégrant d’autres composantes spécifiques comme la morphographie. À l’inverse, les élèves du deuxième groupe, non initiés à ces activités d’écriture-encodage autonomes, évoluent peu dans leurs conceptions de l’écriture de leur langue ; ils se contentent d’inscrire des graphes sans lien avec l’oral et souvent sans visée sémiographique. Cette étude prolonge et précise de précédentes recherches qui montrent que ces activités d’écriture avec un étayage de l’enseignant, les verbalisations explicatives des élèves et un retour à la norme ont un impact positif sur l’acquisition de la lecture-écriture.

Les pressions anthropiques ont accéléré la dégradation des aires protégées surtout dans les pays en voie de développement où les populations dépendent fortement des ressources forestières. La présente étude vise à évaluer l’impact de la gouvernance induite par les différents projets / programmes connus par la Réserve Transfrontalière de Biosphère du W du Bénin (RTBW/B) entre 2000 et 2017 sur son intégrité écologique. De façon spécifique, elle vise à (i) analyser la variation spatio-temporelle des unités d’occupation des terres dans la RTBW/B entre 1990 et 2020 ; et (ii) évaluer la dynamique des indicateurs de pression (défrichement, braconnage, transhumance, pêche illégale, exploitation forestière illégale) sur la réserve de 1990 à 2020. Pour cela, une classification supervisée a été faite sur des images Landsat 4 pour l’année 1990, Landsat 7 pour 2000 et Landsat 8 pour 2020. De plus, une analyse de la tendance des indicateurs de pression a été faite. Les résultats ont montré que le paysage de la RTBW/B s’est fortement dégradé entre 1990 et 2000 avec des taux annuels de changement, certes, relativement bas (entre -0,002 et 0,336 %) mais traduisant une dynamique homogène du paysage. Par contre, entre 2000 et 2020, une nette amélioration du couvert végétal est observée et ceci se traduit notamment par le fait que les mosaïques de champs et jachères ont fortement régressé (ΔS<0 et Tc = -0,822%). De plus, une tendance régressive est globalement notée pour les indicateurs de pression sur la période. Tout ceci pourrait traduire un impact positif des actions des différents projets/programmes mis en œuvre entre 2000 et 2017. Toutefois, il est important de disposer de données sur de longues périodes sur les aires protégées bénéficiaires afin de mieux appréhender les impacts des multiples projets et programmes sur leur intégrité écologique des aires protégées.

In China, the turnout abnormality very easily causes traffic accident or affects the efficiency due to the operating environment of railway transportation. The existing monitoring means are relatively backward, and mature automatic diagnosis method is lacking. In this study, a method based on semi-supervised learning algorithm for abnormal state diagnosis of turnout action curve is proposed, which is used to analyze and extract the electrical characteristics of the turnout by using the turnout action curve and the static and dynamic properties collected by the railway centralized monitoring system. The support vector machine model is used to construct the initial classifier with a small number of labeled samples, and the labeled samples are expanded from a large number of unlabeled samples. The switch curve is analyzed and diagnosed by using unlabeled data with a small amount of labeled data. The experimental results show that the method can automatically diagnose turnout electrical characteristics with high accuracy. While the cost of this method is relatively low compared with supervised learning, it can achieve higher accuracy and improve the practicability of fault diagnosis of turnout.

Cet article a donné la possibilité de rendre compte d’une analyse lexicale du 19ème siècle français dans l’édition mondiale produite durant les 19ème et 20ème siècles à l’aide d’un nouvel outil lexicométrique nommé « N-gram-Viewer » (visualisateur de fréquence de mots). Cet instrument numérique en ligne sur l’Internet nous a permis de réaliser une approche assez précise des occurrences lexicales des deux derniers siècles. Ce logiciel qui manipule un corpus de 5 millions de livres numérisés est à la fois linguistique et historique. Il offre en effet des possibilités nouvelles pour apprécier et expliquer l’histoire du 19ème siècle français entre mythe et réalité.La problématique centrale de cet article a donc été la suivante : dans quelle mesure peut-on dire que les nouvelles technologies linguistiques permettent d’obtenir un autre re- gard sur l’histoire dite traditionnelle d’un pays ? Et plus avant encore : dans quelle mesure peut-on dire aussi qu’une analyse structurelle macro-lexicale peut débusquer des représen- tations inédites et constitutives gravitant autour des « Grands Hommes » liés naturellement à l’histoire événementielle ou des positivistes d’un pays ?Les données obtenues ont permis de construire des courbes d’occurrences lexicales (nommées N-grammes) qui nous ont donné accès à un monde numérique jusqu’ici caché. Cet outil nous a permis surtout de voir un double immatériel de la mémoire de l’humanité car il offre l’accès à des traitements algorithmiques accélérés et à des enregistrements mas- sifs d’information connectés à l’édition mondiale.La science de fouilles de données (data mining), la science de réseaux (les graphes obtenus par l’Internet) et leur mise à jour par des « datas centers », tels ont été les trois pa- ramètres essentiels de cette recherche. Ces trois aspects techniques ont constitué la toile de fond de cette étude qui dispose au final de plus de 500 milliards de mots, soit environ 5 téraoctets. La création numérique de ce méga-texte réalisé par les laboratoires « Google » et l’université d’Harvard en 2010 a donc ouvert des perspectives inédites entre culture et nu- mérique, d’où le néologisme récent de « Culturomique » pour nommer ce microscope d’analyse linguistique au service de l’histoire.

Without the source code, it is difficult to analyze these libraries for vulnerabilities. Therefore, to analyze weaknesses inherent in binary code, various studies have been conducted to perform static analysis using intermediate code. The conversion from binary code to intermediate language differs depending on the execution environment. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based analysis method to reconstruct missing data types during the compilation process from binary code to intermediate language, and propose a method to generate supervised learning data for deep learning.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the percentage level of primary school principals in using artistic supervision models, and to analyze the supervisory approach undertaken by principals according to the teacher quadrant level. The research method used is quantitative, the type of research used is survey. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics, namely presenting in the form of tables, charts, graphs, percentage values and so on. Data analysis was carried out with the help of SPSS version 23. The results showed: 1) the percentage level of primary school principals using the artistic supervision model 27.34% was quite often done by the principal, 2.88% was sometimes done by the principal, 7.91% very often done, 57.55% often and 4.32% never done. 2) principals who take an artistic supervision approach basically do not realize that the supervision model used is an artistic approach. The percentage level of school principals who supervised the quadrant level of teachers with a directive approach was 20.86%, the use of a collaborative approach was 42.45% and the non-directive approach was 36.69%. The suggestions recommended in this article are for researchers to expect further research to create models of artistic supervision in increasing pedagogical competence according to the quadrant level of primary school teachers. For other researchers, similar research can be carried out related to artistic supervision models and the quadrant level of elementary school teachers. The principal should understand the teacher quadrant level to determine the supervision approach that will be used by the principal.

The use of computer-based automation and control systems for smart sustainable buildings, often so-called Automated Buildings (ABs), has become an effective way to automatically control, optimize, and supervise a wide range of building performance applications over a network while achieving the minimum energy consumption possible, and in doing so generally refers to Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) architecture. Instead of costly and time-consuming experiments, this paper focuses on using distributed dynamic simulations to analyze the real-time performance of network-based building control systems in ABs and improve the functions of the BACS technology. The paper also presents the development and design of a distributed dynamic simulation environment with the capability of representing the BACS architecture in simulation by run-time coupling two or more different software tools over a network. The application and capability of this new dynamic simulation environment are demonstrated by an experimental design in this paper.

Accurate and fast assessment of resection margins is an essential part of a dermatopathologist’s clinical routine. In this work, we successfully develop a deep learning method to assist the dermatopathologists by marking critical regions that have a high probability of exhibiting pathological features in whole slide images (WSI). We focus on detecting basal cell carcinoma (BCC) through semantic segmentation using several models based on the UNet architecture. The study includes 650 WSI with 3443 tissue sections in total. Two clinical dermatopathologists annotated the data, marking tumor tissues’ exact location on 100 WSI. The rest of the data, with ground-truth sectionwise labels, are used to further validate and test the models. We analyze two different encoders for the first part of the UNet network and two additional training strategies: (a) deep supervision, (b) linear combination of decoder outputs, and obtain some interpretations about what the network’s decoder does in each case. The best model achieves over 96%, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity on the Test set.

Le développement agricole et la forte croissance démographique ont contribué à la perte du couvert forestier ivoirien. L’objectif de cette étude est d’analyser l’évolution passée (1986 à 2019) et de prédire (2019 à 2050) l’occupation des sols dans le bassin versant de la Lobo. La classification supervisée par maximum de vraisemblance des images landsat de 1986, 2003 et 2019, couplée à la méthode intensity analysis a été appliquée dans cette étude. Les résultats montrent sur la période de 1986 à 2019 une baisse de la végétation de 4708,82 km2 à 4054,72 km2 au détriment de l’augmentation de la mosaïque des cultures et jachères de 6376,56 km2 à 6925,05 km2. Les plans d’eau et sols nus et bâtis ont également augmenté respectivement de 3,73 km2 et 101,88 km2. Par contre, les aires protégées sont restées inchangées avec une superficie de 1516,13 km2. Les changements des classes d’occupation du sol par intensity analysis ont été lent au premier intervalle de temps (1986-2019) mais s’accéléront au deuxième intervalle de temps (2019 à 2050). La mosaïque des cultures et jachères et la végétation ont connu respectivement des pertes de superficies moins intenses et plus intense, tandis que les autres classes ont gagné intensément de superficies durant le premier intervalle de temps. Pendant le deuxième intervalle de temps, seuls les plans d’eau et la mosaïque des cultures et jachères connaîtront des intensités de gains de superficies moins intenses. Il n’y a pas eu de transition des autres classes vers la végétation et la mosaïque des cultures sur toute la période d’étude (1986 à 2050).
Agricultural development and high demographic growth have contributed to the loss of ivorian forest cover. The objective of this study is to analyse the past (1986 to 2019) and to predict (2019 to 2050) evolution of land use in the Lobo watershed. Supervised maximum likelihood classification of landsat images from 1986, 2003 and 2019, coupled with intensity analysis was applied in this study. The results show a decrease in vegetation from 4708.82 km2 to 4054.72 km2 over the period 1986 to 2019 at the expense of an increase in the mosaic of crops and fallow land from 6376.56 km2 to 6925.05 km2. Water bodies and bare and built-up land also increased by 3.73 km2and 101.88 km2 respectively. Protected areas, on the other hand, remained unchanged at 1516.13 km2. Changes in land use classes by using intensity of analysis were slow in the first time interval (1986-2019) but will accelerate in the second time interval (2019 to 2050). Crop and fallow mosaic and vegetation experienced less intense and more intense area losses respectively, while the other classes gained area intensively during the first time interval. During the second time interval, only water bodies and the crop-fallow mosaic will experience less intense area gains. There was no transition from the other classes to vegetation and crop mosaic over the entire study period (1986 to 2050).

Dengue is a viral disease that primarily affects tropical and subtropical regions and is especially prevalent in South-East Asia. This mosquito-borne disease sometimes triggers nationwide epidemics, which results in a large number of fatalities. The development of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is where most cases occur, and a large portion of them are detected among children under the age of ten, with severe conditions often progressing to a critical state known as Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS). In this study, we analysed two separate datasets from two different countries– Vietnam and Bangladesh, which we referred as VDengu and BDengue, respectively. For the VDengu dataset, as it was structured, supervised learning models were effective for predictive analysis, among which, the decision tree classifier XGBoost in particular produced the best outcome. Furthermore, Shapley Additive Explanation (SHAP) was used over the XGBoost model to assess the significance of individual attributes of the dataset. Among the significant attributes, we applied the SHAP dependence plot to identify the range for each attribute against the number of DHF or DSS cases. In parallel, the dataset from Bangladesh was unstructured; therefore, we applied an unsupervised learning technique, i.e., hierarchical clustering, to find clusters of vital blood components of the patients according to their complete blood count reports. The clusters were further analysed to find the attributes in the dataset that led to DSS or DHF.

A variety of medical computer vision applications analyze 2D slices of computed tomography (CT) scans, whereas axial slices from the body trunk region are usually identified based on their relative position to the spine. A limitation of such systems is that either the correct slices must be extracted manually or labels of the vertebrae are required for each CT scan to develop an automated extraction system. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) approach for vertebrae detection and identification based on a novel Domain Sanity Loss (DSL) function. With UDA the model’s knowledge learned on a publicly available (source) data set can be transferred to the target domain without using target labels, where the target domain is defined by the specific setup (CT modality, study protocols, applied pre- and processing) at the point of use (e.g., a specific clinic with its specific CT study protocols). With our approach, a model is trained on the source and target data set in parallel. The model optimizes a supervised loss for labeled samples from the source domain and the DSL loss function based on domain-specific “sanity checks” for samples from the unlabeled target domain. Without using labels from the target domain, we are able to identify vertebra centroids with an accuracy of 72.8%. By adding only ten target labels during training the accuracy increases to 89.2%, which is on par with the current state-of-the-art for full supervised learning, while using about 20 times less labels. Thus, our model can be used to extract 2D slices from 3D CT scans on arbitrary data sets fully automatically without requiring an extensive labeling effort, contributing to the clinical adoption of medical imaging by hospitals.

Background Patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) have limited treatment options and have a deteriorated quality of life with an uncertain prognosis. Early identification of ESLD patients with a poor prognosis is valuable, especially for palliative care. However, it is difficult to predict ESLD patients that require either acute care or palliative care. Objective We sought to create a machine-learning monitoring system that can predict mortality or classify ESLD patients. Several machine-learning models with visualized graphs, decision trees, ensemble learning, and clustering were assessed. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted using electronic medical records of patients from Wan Fang Hospital and Taipei Medical University Hospital. A total of 1214 patients from Wan Fang Hospital were used to establish a dataset for training and 689 patients from Taipei Medical University Hospital were used as a validation set. Results The overall mortality rate of patients in the training set and validation set was 28.3% (257/907) and 22.6% (145/643), respectively. In traditional clinical scoring models, prothrombin time-international normalized ratio, which was significant in the Cox regression (P<.001, hazard ratio 1.288), had a prominent influence on predicting mortality, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve reached approximately 0.75. In supervised machine-learning models, the concordance statistic of ROC curves reached 0.852 for the random forest model and reached 0.833 for the adaptive boosting model. Blood urea nitrogen, bilirubin, and sodium were regarded as critical factors for predicting mortality. Creatinine, hemoglobin, and albumin were also significant mortality predictors. In unsupervised learning models, hierarchical clustering analysis could accurately group acute death patients and palliative care patients into different clusters from patients in the survival group. Conclusions Medical artificial intelligence has become a cutting-edge tool in clinical medicine, as it has been found to have predictive ability in several diseases. The machine-learning monitoring system developed in this study involves multifaceted analyses, which include various aspects for evaluation and diagnosis. This strength makes the clinical results more objective and reliable. Moreover, the visualized interface in this system offers more intelligible outcomes. Therefore, this machine-learning monitoring system provides a comprehensive approach for assessing patient condition, and may help to classify acute death patients and palliative care patients. Upon further validation and improvement, the system may be used to help physicians in the management of ESLD patients.

Une approche méthodologique s'appuyant sur la combinaison de données satellitaires et données de terrain est proposée pour l’estimation du volume-tige de peuplements forestiers hétérogènes ou peu homogènes. L'objectif est d'évaluer la disponibilité forestière, en inventoriant moins de 1% de la surface étudiée et avec une précision max de 15%. L'approche consiste en la réalisation de trois étapes principales : i) Analyse de la variance sur le volume-tige, ii) classification des données satellitaires et iii) Désignation et inventaire des pixels-échantillons. L'analyse et le calcul de la variance permet d'orienter les calculs du volume en fonction de sa variabilité dans les différentes strates de la forêt alors que la classification des données satellitaires vise à obtenir une stratification de la forêt. La troisième étape consiste en la sélection de pixels-échantillons sur l'image classifiée puis la géolocalisation, l'installation et le cubage des placettes-terrain correspondantes (même dimension spatiale que le pixel de l'image utilisée). Appliquée sur une futaie peu homogène de pin d'Alep (forêt de Tlemcen, Nord-Ouest algérien), l'approche a permis d'estimer un volume global sur pied du peuplement égal à 30 595 m3 m3±15.6% et ce en inventoriant 0.4% seulement de la surface totale. L'analyse de variance sur 12 placettes-échantillons a mis en évidence le caractère peu homogène de la forêt et la faible variabilité du volume-tige. Cependant, Elle fait apparaître aussi qu'une stratification apporte une légère amélioration à la précision (15.6%) contre 17.6% sans stratification. La classification supervisée d'une image Landsat (Mai 2002) par la méthode du maximum de vraisemblance (précision moyenne de 96%) a permis de stratifier la zone étudiée en six classes (forêt très dense, forêt dense, forêt claire, matorral, herbacées, autres). Pour chaque strate de forêt, le cubage complet de 4 placettes-échantillons comparables en dimension au pixel (30m—30m), a fourni le volume-tige moyen par pixel alors que la généralisation de celui-ci à l'ensemble des pixels a permis de déterminer le volume total de chaque strate. Vu les confusions générées par la classification supervisée au profit des objets pistes, routes et matorral, le volume global a été revu à la baisse (taux de réduction de 10%) et la valeur du volume total corrigé était de 27 535 m3±15.6%, une précision, bien que non conforme à celle exigée par l'aménagement forestier (max ±10%), s'approche de celle généralement admise (une moyenne de ±15%) pour certains inventaires simplifiés.

AbstractTackling semi-supervised learning problems with graph-based methods has become a trend in recent years since graphs can represent all kinds of data and provide a suitable framework for studying continuum limits, for example, of differential operators. A popular strategy here is p-Laplacian learning, which poses a smoothness condition on the sought inference function on the set of unlabeled data. For $$p<\infty $$ p < ∞ continuum limits of this approach were studied using tools from $$\varGamma $$ Γ -convergence. For the case $$p=\infty $$ p = ∞ , which is referred to as Lipschitz learning, continuum limits of the related infinity Laplacian equation were studied using the concept of viscosity solutions. In this work, we prove continuum limits of Lipschitz learning using $$\varGamma $$ Γ -convergence. In particular, we define a sequence of functionals which approximate the largest local Lipschitz constant of a graph function and prove $$\varGamma $$ Γ -convergence in the $$L^{\infty }$$ L ∞ -topology to the supremum norm of the gradient as the graph becomes denser. Furthermore, we show compactness of the functionals which implies convergence of minimizers. In our analysis we allow a varying set of labeled data which converges to a general closed set in the Hausdorff distance. We apply our results to nonlinear ground states, i.e., minimizers with constrained $$L^p$$ L p -norm, and, as a by-product, prove convergence of graph distance functions to geodesic distance functions.

À l’instar des autres villes algériennes, Bou-Saâda a connu une importante croissance démographique et un exode rural sous la pression des évènements politiques et socio-économiques marquant l’histoire de la ville et de la nation. Le rythme de construction des logements officiels n’a pu faire face à cette situation. Des quartiers d’habitat spontané ont donc vu le jour, tel que Maïtar. Ce dernier s’est implanté dans un site périphérique, enclavé entre parcs de production de matériaux de construction, montagne de Moubakhera, dunes de sable et Oued Maïtar, avec une grande pauvreté en termes d’équipements publics et d’espaces de convivialité. Ce présent article aborde la vérification de l’intégration du quartier d’habitat spontané de Maïtar dans le système urbain de la ville de Bou-Saâda par le biais de la méthode de la syntaxe spatiale, théorie initiée par Bill Hillier et d'autres chercheurs à la Bartlett, University College of London, qui s’intéresse à l'analyse des configurations spatiales des objets architecturaux et systèmes urbains par la traduction spatiale des comportements sociaux à travers un ensemble d’outils et de techniques permettant l'aboutissement à plusieurs modèles interprétatifs de différents phénomènes sociaux et spatiaux. Cette théorie donne accès à certaines caractéristiques et propriétés des graphes, en permettant notamment une analyse plus poussée, au niveau local comme au niveau global [1]. L’application de cette analyse à travers les outils de la carte axiale et de la carte de « all line analysis » sur la ville de Bou-Saada a démontré la ségrégation du quartier de Maïtar par rapport au système urbain. Ces résultats s’interprètent par le nombre très limité des voies qui relie le quartier avec le système et l’isolement spatial dû à l’enclavement. Le réseau interne du quartier n’est plus perméable, il s’appuie sur un seul axe de distribution et d’organisation de l’espace, ce qui reflète une ségrégation et une faible connectivité au sein du quartier et avec l’ensemble du système urbain de la ville. L’espace dans son ensemble est moins fréquenté, il est donc insécurisé et se caractérise par une grande introversion.

AbstractMany models were recently proposed to classify students, relying on a large amount of pre-labeled data to verify their classification effectiveness. However, those models lack to accurately classify students into various behavioral patterns, employing nominal class labels, rather than ordinal ones. Meanwhile, such models cannot analyze high-dimensional learning behaviors among learners according to students’ interaction with course videos. Since online learning data are huge, the main challenges associated with data are insufficient labeling and classification using nominal class labels. In this study, we proposed a model based on Graph Convolutional Network, as a semi-supervised classification task to classify students’ engagement in various behavioral patterns. First, we proposed a label function to label datasets instead of manual labeling, in which input and output data are labeled for classification to provide a learning foundation for future data processing. Accordingly, we hypothesized four behavioral patterns, namely (“High-engagement”, “Normal-engagement”, “At-risk”, and “Potential-At-risk”) based on students' engagement with course videos and their performance on the assessments/quizzes conducted after. Then, we built a heterogeneous knowledge graph representing learners, course videos as entities, and capturing semantic relationships among students according to shared knowledge concepts in videos. Our model intrinsically works for heterogeneous knowledge graphs as a semi-supervised node classification task. It was evaluated on a real-world dataset across multiple settings to achieve a better predictive classification model. Experiment results showed that the proposed model can predict with an accuracy of 84% and an f1-score of 78% compared to baseline approaches.

RésuméCet article examine le recours à la contraception dans les capitales de quatre pays africains, le Burkina Faso, le Ghana, le Maroc et le Sénégal. L’article cherche à répondre à deux questions : (i) quel est l’ordre hiérarchique des relations causales entre les caractéristiques individuelles associées au recours à la contraception dans les quatre populations urbaines considérées ? Plus particulièrement, (ii) comme l’instruction est un facteur majeur de la transition démographique, les données confirment-elles les deux chemins indirects allant de l’instruction au recours à la contraception qui ont été proposés dans la littérature, à savoir un chemin union-reproduction et un chemin socio-culturel ? À partir d’une analyse secondaire des Enquêtes Démographie et Santé (EDS), la méthodologie se base sur des modèles structurels récursifs représentés par des graphes acycliques orientés. L’analyse empirique confirme l’importance de variables telles que le désir d’enfants et l’accord parental en matière de planification familiale pour expliquer le recours à la contraception. L’analyse met aussi en relief un chemin structurel union-reproduction associant instruction féminine et recours à la contraception. En revanche, l’analyse aboutit à rejeter l’existence d’un chemin socioculturel, celui-ci étant infirmé par les données disponibles. La validité de ces résultats est discutée.AbstractThis study examined contraceptive use in the capital cities of four African countries, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Morocco and Senegal. The article sought to answer two questions: (i) what is the hierarchical ordering of causal relationships among the individual factors involved in the use of contraception in the four urban populations considered? More particularly, (ii) as education is a major factor of fertility transition, are two main indirect pathways that have been proposed in the literature (a union-reproductive path and a socio-cultural one), leading from women’s education to contraceptive use, confirmed by the data? Having recourse to a secondary analysis of Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data, the methodology is based on recursive structural models represented by directed acyclic graphs. The empirical analysis confirms the importance of variables such as the desire for children and partner agreement on family planning in explaining contraceptive use. It also highlights a structural union-reproductive path linking female education and contraceptive use. On the contrary, the analysis leads to a tentative rejection of the socio-cultural path, as it is falsified by the data available. The validity of these results is discussed.

From as early as the 1950s, J.C. Gardin's work spanned both archaeology and the emerging automation of numerical computation and documentation. In 1961, with P. Garelli, he published the first automated application of graph theory to historical materials, working from Assyrian cuneiform tablets documenting economic relations. This work was then widely ignored both in archeology and network analysis. However, in the past twenty years, socio-epistemic claims related to the growth of the Internet and computing (digital humanities, computational archaeology, etc.) have brought a surge of interest in Gardin's work, which is now regarded as pioneering. Working from archive materials and publications, this paper shows how a historical sociology of scientific writings can be relevant to the history of automation in historical sciences. The paper examines Gardin's recognition as an influential forerunner of computational archeology, showing that : 1) although Gardin had access to resources (financial, instrumental, etc.) that were rare at the time, and could have provided material for the foundation of a school or a specialty, he did not however pursue this ambition; 2) the demonstrative purposes pursued by Gardin with his study of 1961 economic networks varied between the 1960s (demonstrating the relevance of non-numerical computation) and the 1980s (legitimizing simulation in the social sciences), but were never concerned with network analysis as such. Dès les années 1950, les travaux de J.‑C. Gardin concernèrent à la fois l'archéologie et l'automatisation naissante du calcul numérique et de la documentation. En 1961, à partir de tablettes cunéiformes assyriennes documentant des relations économiques, il publia avec P. Garelli la première application automatisée de la théorie des graphes à des matériaux historiques. Elle fut ensuite largement ignorée tant en archéologie qu'en analyse de réseaux. AbstractDeep learning models obtain impressive accuracy in road scene understanding; however, they need a large number of labeled samples for their training. Additionally, such models do not generalize well to environments where the statistical properties of data do not perfectly match those of training scenes, and this can be a significant problem for intelligent vehicles. Hence, domain adaptation approaches have been introduced to transfer knowledge acquired on a label-abundant source domain to a related label-scarce target domain. In this work, we design and carefully analyze multiple latent space-shaping regularization strategies that work together to reduce the domain shift. More in detail, we devise a feature clustering strategy to increase domain alignment, a feature perpendicularity constraint to space apart features belonging to different semantic classes, including those not present in the current batch, and a feature norm alignment strategy to separate active and inactive channels. In addition, we propose a novel evaluation metric to capture the relative performance of an adapted model with respect to supervised training. We validate our framework in driving scenarios, considering both synthetic-to-real and real-to-real adaptation, outperforming previous feature-level state-of-the-art methods on multiple road scenes benchmarks.

Twitter Spam has turned out to be a significant predicament of these days. Current works concern on exploiting the machine learning models to detect the spams in Twitter by determining the statistic features of the tweets. Even though these models result in better success, it is hard to sustain the performances attained by the supervised approaches. This paper intends to introduce a deep learning-assisted spam classification model on twitter. This classification is based on sentiments and topics modeled in it. The initial step is data collection. Subsequently, the collected data are preprocessed with “stop word removal, stemming and tokenization”. The next step is feature extraction, wherein, the post tagging, headwords, rule-based lexicon, word length, and weighted holoentropy features are extracted. Then, the proposed sentiment score extraction is carried out to analyze their variations in nonspam and spam information. At last, the diffusions of spam data on Twitter are classified into spam and nonspams. For this, an Optimized Deep Ensemble technique is introduced that encloses “neural network (NN), support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF) and convolutional neural network (DNN)”. Particularly, the weights of DNN are optimally tuned by an arithmetic crossover-based cat swarm optimization (AC-CS) model. At last, the supremacy of the developed approach is examined via evaluation over extant techniques. Accordingly, the proposed AC-CS [Formula: see text] ensemble model attained better accuracy value when the learning percentage is 80, which is 18.1%, 14.89%, 11.7%, 12.77%, 10.64%, 6.38%, 6.38%, and 6.38% higher than SVM, DNN, RNN, DBN, MFO [Formula: see text] ensemble model, WOA [Formula: see text] ensemble model, EHO [Formula: see text] ensemble model and CSO [Formula: see text] ensemble model models.
