Full textCritical Systems such as flight commands may have disastrous results in case of failure. Hence the interest of both the industrial and theacademic communities in formal methods able to more or less automatically deliver mathematical proof of correctness. Among them, this thesis will particularly focus on abstract interpretation, an efficient method to automatically generate proofs of numerical properties which are essential in our context. It is well known from control theorists that linear controllers are stable if and only if they admit a quadratic invariant (geometrically speaking, an ellipsoid). They call these invariants quadratic Lyapunov functions and a first part offers to automatically compute such invariants for controllers given as a pair of matrices. This is done using semi-definite programming optimization tools. It is worth noting that floating point aspects are taken care of, whether they affectcomputations performed by the analyzed program or by the tools used for the analysis. However, the actual goal is to analyze programs implementing controllers (and not pairs of matrices), potentially including resets or saturations, hence not purely linears. The policy iteration technique is a recently developed static analysis techniques well suited to that purpose. However, it does not marry very easily with the classic abstract interpretation paradigm. The next part tries to offer a nice interface between the two worlds. Finally, the last part is a more prospective work on the use of polynomial global optimization based on Bernstein polynomials to compute polynomial invariants on polynomials systems

Full textThis work deals with multicells converters control. This new static power converter structure appeared at the end of the 90's and has many interesting advantages for high voltage energy conversion. But the perfect dynamic control of the internal variables is an important objective for industrials applications. The first part of this work will be devoted to the study of the multicell structure, with its high interest in energy conversion. An average state space model of the system is given. Different classical non linear control lows are presented in the second part, in order to fit some specific dynamic requirements, very particular to this type of power converter. Thus two methods based on the input / output linearization and on the Lyapunov functions are implemented and tested. Moreover, an original estimator for the different voltages is proposed. In the third part, two differents types of Fuzzy Control of multicells converter are proposed. The first one is based on the average model and leads to classical structure and performances. The second allows the control of the converter through phase shifts variations between the differents trigger signals, but requires a fuzzy inversion of the harmonic model. Simulations results are provided for all the differents control laws on 3 or 4 cells converters. Most of them were implemented and tested through experiments

Full textSeismic fragility analysis is essential in engineering to assess structural responses to earthquakes, helping reduce infrastructure vulnerability by identifying weaknesses and environmental factors, like soil conditions and material degradation, which impact immediate and long-term resilience. Fragility analysis provides a comprehensive framework, applicable from individual buildings to urban zones, guiding design and risk management strategies. Chapter 2 introduces nonlinear static analysis (NSA) to evaluate structural behavior under seismic loads, generating capacity curves that represent structures' ability to withstand seismic forces. Additionally, the chapter addresses critical factors like soil-structure interaction and corrosion degradation. Using the Winkler model, soil flexibility is simulated, showing how softer soils amplify seismic deformations. A uniform corrosion model reveals that degradation reduces structural stiffness, emphasizing the need to include both factors in fragility evaluations. Chapter 3 explores surrogate models as an alternative to Monte Carlo simulations for generating fragility curves, which estimate the likelihood of specific damage states based on seismic intensity. The PC-Kriging (PCK) model accurately and efficiently captures rare events, combining polynomial chaos expansion with Kriging, making it well-suited for practical applications. Chapter 4 presents an advanced approach to seismic fragility by integrating soil-structure interaction and corrosion. These factors, traditionally omitted, offer a more realistic view of structural responses under seismic loads. The PCK model enables detailed and computationally feasible assessments of various seismic and degradation scenarios, overcoming limitations of conventional methods. In conclusion, this research enhances seismic fragility assessment by combining nonlinear modeling, degradation factors, and computational efficiency through surrogate models. The study highlights the importance of soil flexibility and corrosion in evaluations. This methodology enables precise, practical assessments, optimizing design and maintenance resources, thereby boosting structural resilience to earthquakes

Full textIn the context of building’s protection against seismic risk, simplified analysis techniques, based on quasi-static analysis of pushover, have strongly developed over the past two decades. The thesis aims to optimize a simplified method proposed by Chopra and Goel in 2001 and adopted by American standards FEMA 273. This method is a nonlinear decoupled modal analysis, called by the authors UMRHA (Uncoupled Modal for Response History Analysis) which is mainly characterized by: pushover modal analysis according to the dominant modes of vibration of the structure, setting up nonlinear single degree of freedom systems drawn from modal pushover curves, then determining the history response of the structure by combining of the temporal responses associated with each mode of vibration. The decoupling of nonlinear history responses associated with each mode is the strong assumption of the method UMRHA. In this study, the UMRHA method has been improved by investigating the following points. First of all, several nonlinear single degree of freedom systems drawn from modal pushover curves are proposed to enrich the original UMRHA method, in which a simple elastic-plastic model is used, other elastic-plastic models with different envelope curves, Takeda model taking into account an hysteretic behavior characteristic of structures under earthquakes, and finally, a simplified model based on the frequency degradation as a function of a damage index. The latter nonlinear single degree of freedom model privileges the view of the frequency degradation during the structure damage process relative to a realistic description of hysteresis loops. The total response of the structure is obtained by summing the contributions of the non linear dominant modes to those of linear non dominant modes. Finally, the degradation of the modal shapes due to the structure damage during the seismic loading is taken into account in the new simplified method M-UMRHA (Modified UMRHA) proposed in this study. By generalizing the previous model of frequency degradation as a function of a damage index: the modal shape becomes itself also dependent on a damage index, the maximum displacement at the top of the structure; the evolution of the modal shape as a function of this index is directly obtained from the modal pushover analysis. The pertinence of the new method M-UMRHA is investigated for several types of structures, by adopting tested models of structures simulation under earthquakes: reinforced concrete frame modeled by multifibre elements with uniaxial laws under cyclic loading for concrete and steel, infill masonry wall with diagonal bars elements resistant only in compression, existing building (Grenoble City Hall) with multilayer shell elements and nonlinear biaxial laws based on the concept of smeared and fixed cracks. The obtained results by the proposed simplified method are compared to the reference results derived from the nonlinear response history analysis

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the determination of shakedown limit states of porous ductile materials based on Melan's static theorem by considering the hollow sphere model, analytically and numerically. First of all, we determine the analytical macroscopic shakedown criterion of the considered unit cell with von Mises matrix under alternating and pulsating special loading cases. The proposed macroscopic analytical criterion depends on the first and second macroscopic stresses invariants, the sign of the third one and Poisson's ratio. Then, the procedure is extended to the general cyclically repeated loads by the construction of a more appropriate trial residual stress field allowing analytical computations and the improvement of the previous model simultaneously. Moreover, this approach is applied to porous materials with dilatant Drucker-Prager matrix. The idea relies firstly on the exact solution for the pure hydrostatic loading condition. It turns out that the collapse occurs by fatigue. Next, suitable trial stress fields are built with additional terms to capture the shear effects. The safety domain, defined by the intersection of the shakedown limit domain and the limit analysis domain corresponding to the sudden collapse by development of a mechanism at the first cycle, is fully compared with step-by-step incremental elastic-plastic simulations and simplified direct computations. At last, we provide a direct numerical method to predict the shakedown safety domain of porous materials subjected to multi-varying independent loadings by considering the critical loading path of the load domain instead of the whole history. The shakedown problem is transformed into a large-size optimization problem, which can be solved efficiently by the non-linear optimizer IPOPT to give out not only the limit load factor, but also the corresponding residual stress field for the shakedown state

Full textIn cars with manual transmission, squeal noise may be observed, among other unforced vibrations, during the sliding phase of the clutch engagement. It may arise even when the friction coefficient is almost constant. Consequently, friction-induced mode coupling instabilities due to the intrinsic structure of the system is assumed to be responsible for this phenomenon. The present thesis deals with the analysis of the conditions for a destabilization of the stationary sliding state and the resulting rise of vibrations in clutches due to such a mechanism. A phenomenological model is proposed in order to illustrate such a behaviour. Both linear and non-linear parametric investigations are performed in order to highlight the interaction between fundamental actions including circulatory, gyroscopic and damping actions. Important results are exposed, especially regarding the effect of the damping structure. They lead to a better understanding of the dynamic of systems subject to flutter instabilities. In particular, the destabilization paradox and a dynamical extension which can be proposed are exposed. In the meanwhile, a dedicated test bench has been designed in order to perform detailed in situ analysis of the phenomenon. The proposed model and the identified dynamic show a good qualitative correspondance. Moreover, an experimental parametric study reveals dependencies of the clutch squeal noise phenomenon to some major working conditions, such as driving speed, transmitted torque and engaged gearbox ratio. Most of the theoretical results are expressed in a non-dimensional form. Thus, they can be applied to a large variety of models and mechanical systems

Full textNowadays, more than ever, turbomachinery designers seek for increase the efficiency of their machines what could result in a loss of weight and a decrease in fuel consumption. The efficiency of jet engines depends strongly on the clearance between the rotating and stationary parts : the wider the clearance, the less efficient the machine. Hence it is desirable to reduce the clearance by as much as possible. However, reduced clearances increase the possibility of violent contacts between rotor and stator. Unfortunately this case of contact is highly harmful to such machines. As a matter of fact, under certain conditions it can generate instabilities or chaotic behaviours of the rotating parts. The large amplitude vibrations that result may damage severely the engine. Thus, it is fundamental for Turbomachinery firms to better understand the leading phenomenon responsible for the instability of the structure resulting from rotor-stator contacts. In this study, simple models of an elastic ring excited by rotating beams are developed, in the rotating frame, in order to understand the phenomenology associated with blade-casing interaction. Divergence instabilities as well as mode coupling instabilities will thus be underlined. The associated critical speeds will be expressed analytically as a function of the structure parameters. The inuence of rubbing will also be determined and the behaviour of the system resulting from this interaction will be studied through time integrations and frequency methods. Finally, a complete model of a exible bladed-rotor will be developed in the rotating frame too. Stability analysis of such a rotating structure will be made easily in the case of asymmetric rotating parts. Then the interaction between this bladed-rotor and an elastic casing resulting from an unbalance mass or from a shock on the stator will be analysed. Instabilities will also be underlined and correlated with those obtained when using the simple models. Cases where the dynamics of the stator drives the behaviour of the structure, resulting in static configurations where contacts are maintained between only some particular blades and the casing will be shown. When the dynamics of the bladed-disk plays a role in the dynamics of the structure, dynamic configurations will be underlined. Finally, chaotic behaviours of the system will be obtained in case of rubbing between the blades of the rotor and the casing

Full textExistence and uniqueness of non-linear acoustic wave in media with relaxation problem solution is proved. A homogenized problem is constructed. Its solution existence and uniqueness are demonstrated. Homogenized solution proximity to the exact solution is proved. Asymptotic expansion with respect to the small parameter, integral part factor, is constructed. Its existence and convergence to the exact solution as the parameter tends to zero is proved. For the proofs special solution spaces are constructed. Galerkin approximations method is applied, solution norm estimates are derived of the energy balance equations, a priori estimate of continuous dependence of solution with respect to the discrepancy. Existence of Burgers equation statistical solution is proved. On the assumption of some properties of the source stochastic process the following properties of solution are verified : homogeneity (shift independence) of stochastic measure, stationarity, ergodicity. A new approach is developed : a finite difference scheme corresponding to the problem is used for the proofs. Its solutions are considered as discrete stochastic processes approximating continuous stochastic process of solution

Full textIn this thesis, we study a kind of non-convex varaitional problems. Such problems originated in material science, for example in crystal, etc. We consider the following problems : inf#(*(x)) dx; inf#(*(x))+((x)a(x)) dx on certain Sobolev space w#1#p(a) and where the energy density posses energy wells, say w1 i=1,. . . K. In general, such problems can be no classical solution. In our studies, the numerical method introduced by M. Chipot, C. Collins and D. Kinderlerer has been developped. In section 1 and 2 some results of estimation in a space of finit-element are obtained. Section 3 is contributed to an analysis or parametrized measure. We get a result of Young measure which showing the existence and uniqueness of the generalized solution. And in section 4, we have some estimation results in terms of probability, which explains the behavior of the minimising sequences

Full textThis study is related to compliant foil air journal bearings. In order to optimise the load capacity, an original method for the definition of compliant profiles is proposed. The influence of some design parameters on this characteristic has been studied. For dynamic analyses, the linear method is commonly used. The work presented here clearly shows its limitations and the better results obtained from a step by step calculation. Using a simple structural damping model allows to understand the influence of the compliant structure on the high levels of stability of these bearings. Moreover, published studies on non linear rotordynamics often use rigid symmetric rotors. Therefore, this work has been focused on the dynamic behaviour of flexible rotors supported by non linear air journal bearings

Full text[The construction of a simple and effective numerical model for curved structures is an important and continually up-dated subject. The work developed in this domain is related to two principal difficulties. * The geometrical hypothesis adopted in the shell theory (shallows shell or deep shell theory). * The kinematic hypothesis adopted in the strain-displacement relations. The elements developed in this paper are based on the curvilinear shell theory proposed by PARK and on the HENCKY - MINDLIN's kinematic hypothesis. Generally, two problems are encountered during the modelling of the co curved structures. The first problem is the geometrical representation of the structure, solved by realizing a simple geometrical approximation. The second is the membrane and transverse shear locking phenomenon. The most generally used solutions for treating the locking phenomenon are the method of reduced integration and the mode decomposition technique. However, these solutions remain curative and lead many problems either with their limited field or of a numerical nature. These difficulties led to a new. Method based on the approach of PARK which constitutes a preventive solution: indeed this approach is based in the avoidance of these problems before they appear. Two shell elements based on this approach are formulated. The first element is a three nodes linear triangular element and the second one is a six nodes quadratic triangular element. ]

Full textThis thesis focusses on two research fields regarding unsupervised analysis of hyperspectral images (HSIs). Under the assumptions of the linear spectral mixing model, the formalism of Non-Negative Matrix Factorization is investigated for unmixing purposes. We propose judicious spectral and spatial a priori knowledge to regularize the problem. In addition, we propose an estimator for the projected gradient optimal step-size. Thus, suitably regularized NMF is shown to be a relevant approach to unmix HSIs. Then, the problem of anomaly detection is considered. We propose an algorithm for Anomalous Component Pursuit (ACP), simultaneously based on projection pursuit and on a probabilistic model and hypothesis testing. ACP detects the anomalies with a constant false alarm rate and discriminates them into spectrally homogeneous classes

The design of laminated elastomeric bearing is based on the calculation of the material behaviour as the manufacturing process difficulties do not permit systematic experimental programs. The purpose of this work was to develop original techniques based on the finite element method in order to calculate the static behaviour of laminates elastomeric bearings streched under large deformations. Elements of the rubber-like elasticity. Example with analytical solutions, have been considered for the qualification of the software and the justification of the non-linear analysis has been shown. Full textThe aim of this work is to build and analyse schemes able to discretize the solutions of hyperbolic systems of conservation laws endowed with a source term. The main property required here is the preservation of the asymptotic behaviour, in other words the schemes must stay accurate in the diffusive regime, namely the long time and stiff source term regime. This manuscript is divided in two parts. The first one is dedicated to the presentation of a rigourous numerical convergence result for a scheme discretizing the solutions of the p-system. The convergence rate obtained is explicitly exhibited and coincides with the results obtained in the continuous and semi-discrete frameworks. The second part is devoted to the development of asymptotic preserving schemes and two methods are proposed. The first one is a generalization of the perturbed HLL method introduced by Berthon and Turpault in order to treat source terms of quadratic form and the second one is able to preserve both all the steady states and the diffusive limit

Full textIndustry employ more and more composite materials in structures todecrease the weight. At the microstructure scale behavior is strongly heterogeneous but at the structure scale behaviour may be considered homogeneous. Multiscale methods have been developed to solve the structural problems with a reasonable calculation time. These methods are validated by comparison with a numerical calculation where heterogeneities are fully meshed. In this thesis work, an ideal architectural material was created in the center of a (homogeneous) stainless steel (304L) thin plate. The unit cell architecture material consists of a square with a hole in the center. The use of a high resolution camera (270 million pixels) allows to follow simultaneously the evolution of deformation at microscopic and macroscopic scales. The orientation of the heterogeneous structure modifies the sollicitations applied to the unit cells. The experiments are designed to analyze the kinematics of deformation of the unit cells in a multi-axial loading. Unit cells with periodic kinematics are searched. It is thus shown that the cells with a non-periodic kinematic correspond to the transition zone between the homogeneous material and the architectured material. Knowledge of the kinematic cells allows to investigate the scale changings in the linear and nonlinear range. The downscaling from the macroscopic to the microscopic scale is particularly studied with the choice of boundary conditions. An equivalent homogeneous medium (MHE) is determined as a remplacement for the cells having a periodic kinematic. The geometry of the unit cell introduced symmetries in the behavior of MHE, it becomes cubic (orthotropic with material parameters). The elastic characteristics of the MHE are obtained by homogenization from the experimental results. A criterion of Tsai-Hill is identified in the non-linear domain. The last chapter is interested in cracking of the architected zone and the initiation of strain localization in cells. The support of location is calculated from the strain field measured by correlation. The kinematics of the cell is enriched with a discontinuity and the displacement jump normal to the localization is identified. A comparison with the displacement jump calculated by extended digital image correlation at the macroscopic scale is conducted to validate the identification strategy at the microscopic level

Full textThe recent introduction of investors with unperfect behaviours allows a more realistic representation of stocks markets. The idea of noise traders insists on the unability of certain rational investors to possess and use all available information. This thesis consists of a description of the impact of these investors of financial markets. We also look for appropriate tools to measure the consequences of their existence on efficiency. The first theoretical vision of financial markets was made of homogenous and perfectly informed investors. Now, we consider investors with heterogenous expectations. The changes in the hypothesis of behaviour lead to a modification in the statistical model for the test of efficiency (random walk, martingale). But all these works stay in the probabilistic paradigm of rational investor even if the introduction of non linear models (ARCH. . . ) Leads to an important progress. The deterministic chaos offers an other interesting way for the development of non linearity and free us from the probabilistic constraint. We show that a revision of the tests of efficiency comes with the introduction of chaos. The use of the BDS test can be interpreted here like a test of "classical" efficiency of market against the hypothesis that we call noisy efficiency. Noisy efficiency defines a market with rational and perfectly informed investors and noise traders. Our empirical study on the french stocks market confirms the noisy efficiency. It shows the unability of tests and models which suppose the linearity to describe the different behaviours on financial markets

Full textThis thesis approaches the resolution of nonlinear constraint optimization problems and nonlinear constraints systems over reals. Initially, we are interested in the optimization problems of which the data are known implicitly (Informatic simulation program results), in particular, in the case of discret events systems. The most adapted approach for the optimization-simulation study is the use of direct search methods. In this case, the solutions search is based on an approximate calculation. We approach then the problems of nonlinear constrained optimization over reals based on the constraints satisfaction and interval arithmetic. In this case, the computation result an interval which contain the solutions. Our contribution consists to classify the resolution techniques for global optimization and establish the various relations of decomposition and transformation of optimization problem in the resolution process. The last part is devoted to propose a symbolic numeric method for handling the locality problem in Interval constraint satisfaction technique. Our technique uses redundant constraints which is shown to influence the efficiency of consistency techniques. Finally, A prototype solving engine has been implemented, and applied on some known test problems in numerical analysis domain

When one adds a nonlinearity, understanding nonlinear effects onthe propagation and the competition between them and the linear coupling becomes a very interesting issue. We first consider a potential with eigenvalues that present a spectral gap and will prove an adiabatic theoremfor a critical nonlinearity in the semi-classical sense. This is a L^2-supercritical result, similar to the one proved by Carles and Fermanian-Kammerer for the one-dimensional case, which is L^2-subcritical.The second part of the thesis deals with an explicit 2 X 2 potential that presents an avoided crossing point :the minimal gap between its eigenvalues becomes smaller as the semiclassical parameter tends to zero. We will prove that this system exhibits transitions between the modes. This result is a nonlinear version of the study performed by Hagedorn and Joye in the linear case
