Nous ne nous limitons pas à considérer les aspects microstructurels (nombre de mots, de phrases, etc.) comme le font les mesures de lisibilité traditionnelles; nous tenons également compte des aspects macrostructurels, ceux qui marquent la progression du texte. Nous présentons ici un instrument qui permet de mesurer cette intelligibilité. Nous l’avons appliqué à des textes prescriptifs (un document bancaire et un document administratif) qui causaient des difficultés de compréhension.

Le concept de lisibilité des textes est en vogue depuis le mouvement du plain language law. Ce concept est parfois confondu avec celui de l’intelligibilité d’un texte, lisibilité et intelligibilité étant des termes considérés comme synonymes. La société, suivant la loi du moindre effort et en quête de simplification, tend naturellement vers davantage de facilité dans les actes de la vie quotidienne. La lecture et l’écriture suivent cette tendance : les formes qu’elles prennent évoluent rapidement sous l’effet des nouvelles technologies. Il y a toutefois une grande différence entre la lecture ludique d’un roman ou d’un quotidien d’information générale et celle de textes juridiques tels que loi, jugement ou contrat, qui sont des textes spécialisés, techniques, requérant des lecteurs connaissances spécialisées, présupposés culturels et une intelligence fine des nuances de sens portées par le texte. La lisibilité de ces textes et leur intelligibilité posent des difficultés singulières. Les jurilinguistes se sont penchés sur ces difficultés qui relèvent à la fois de la langue et du droit. Nous avons limité cette analyse à la loi, « vitrine du droit », reflet d’une société, de sa culture juridique et de son mode d’expression particulier.

Résumé L’article s’ouvre par quelques rappels relatifs au texte littéraire: inscription du texte littéraire dans le pôle esthétique de la compréhension et de la production des textes, place et rôle des textes littéraires dans les contenus d’apprentissage scolaires, finalités du texte littéraire et évolution des théories littéraires. La deuxième section de l’article présente quelques orientations du travail pédagogique à mener sur les textes littéraires, avec quelques exemples illustrant deux mots-clés: analyse et réaction critique. La troisième section est consacrée à un genre narratif particulier – la nouvelle littéraire – et illustre, avec des exemples pratiques, son fort potentiel pédagogique. La dernière section élargit le propos en proposant quelques pistes de projets d’exploration de l’univers des textes littéraires. L’article se termine en soulignant l’enjeu fondamental de la lecture de textes littéraires en contexte scolaire: l’instauration d’une «lecture littéraire».

Parmi les multiples expérimentations qui, dans les années soixante, ont éprouvé le langage du texte littéraire, il en est une qui a prôné le renouvellement de la lisibilité par un travail sur le visuel et sur le musical : elle bouleverse le rapport à l'œuvre romanesque et à la représentation en tendant vers l'abstraction,issue de la multiplication des langages convoqués. Quatre romans (Mobilede Butor, Compactde Maurice Roche, Kaff aucb marecrisiumet Zettels Traumd'Arno Schmidt) servent de support à une analyse de la défection des ordres de la figure et de l'expression. Devant ces « textes visibles », le lecteur retrouve l'hésitation du spectateur devant un tableau abstrait : l'univers du signe y est à ce point déplacé qu'il convient d'élaborer un nouveau mode d'appréhension de 1 œuvre,qui mette en jeu un regard à la fois successif et spatial et qui transforme les codes et de la fiction et de la diction.

Nous proposons un cadre logiciel pour l'étude linguistique de corpus de textes. Nous développons plus particulièrement un étiqueteur syntaxique robuste, afin de permettre des recherches dans un corpus sur des données grammaticales. L'accent étant mis sur le traitement de textes corrompus et/ou non ponctues, l'analyse utilise deux mécanismes complémentaires : le premier est un analyseur hors contexte structurant le texte selon une grammaire très lâche ; le second est un système de désambigüisation par automates, dont le but est de guider l'analyse en fournissant une représentation de l'usage.

Les rares textes de tradition orale malinke conns jusque-la sont soit des adaptations, soit sur le plan de la transcription ou de la traduction, des textes de moins bonne qualite. Ce sont surtout des textes destines aux seuls lettres. Dans notre etude qui porte sur deux recits de kelemonson diabate, nous avons trouve un compromis pour satisfaire a la fois le linguiste specialise et le simple locuteur alphabetise en langue bambara. Ce faisant, apres avoir clarifie certains points de phonologie qui ont ete negliges dans la these de b. Keita, nous presentons le premier texte de facon a ternir compte rigoureusement de toutes les donnees linguistiques : transcription phonetique, representation sous-jacente (travail de morphophonologie), traduction en francais de chaque enonce. Ces etudes font de ce texte un travail exclusivement reserve a l'utilisation des linguistes professionnels. Dans un deuxieme temps, nous presentons ce texte avec un autre dans une graphie inspiree par les etudes susmentionnees ; c'est-a-dire une graphie qui, tout en se voulant parfaitement rigoureuse sur le plan linguistique, repond au souci de rendre la transcription du texte oral accessible aussi aux mandingophones ayant deja une pratique de la lecture dans leur langue et aux specialistes de la litterature orale. Cette transcription est une restitution fidele des enonces effectivement realises, et la traduction (en francais) qui en est donnee, reste le plus pres possible de ce que le conteur dit. Une telle etude a permis de nous rendre compte du fait qu'un narrateur malinke emprunte a d'autres formes de parlers quand il raconte l'histoire ; cela nous a valu<br>The rare attested texts on malinke oral tradition are either adaptations or of poor quality as concerns their trancription or their translation. Such documents are exclusively for the use of scholared publics. In our study, based no two narrations by kelemonson diabate, a compromise is proposed to satisfy both the specialized linguist ans the simple speaker tautht in bambara. Thus firstly, after clarifying certain phonological points that were ignored in b. Keita's thesis, we propose, for the first text, a presentation that rigorously takes into account all linguistic factors : phonetic transcription, underlying representation (a morphophonological inquiry), literal transcription, french translation of each phrase. Such approaches give this text its technical value reserved exclusively for professional linguists. Secondly, the latter text is presented together with another one in a graphy inspired by the above mentionned approaches ; i. E. A graphy which is rigorous on the linguistic level, but with an oral transcription nonetheless of easy access to mandinka speakers that had prior reading training in their language, and to oral literature specialists. This transcripion is a loyal restitution of the phrases that were actually pronounced, and the given translation (in french) remains as close as possible to the storyteller's version. Les travaux présentés dans ce mémoire abordent les problèmes liés à la différenciation et la reconnaissance de textes en mode hors-ligne dans des documents multilingues arabe et latin. La première partie de ces travaux concerne une méthode de différenciation entre les textes arabes et les textes latins dans les deux natures imprimée et manuscrite. La deuxième partie propose une nouvelle approche, appelée approche affixale, pour la reconnaissance de mots et l'analyse de textes arabes. Cette approche se distingue par la modélisation d'entités morphosyntaxiques (morphèmes de base du mot) en intégrant les aspects morpho-phonologiques du vocabulaire arabe dans le processus de reconnaissance par rapport aux approches classiques qui procèdent par la modélisation d'entités graphiques (mot, lettre, pseudo mot). Les tests réalisés montrent bien l'apport de l'approche au niveau de la simplification de la reconnaissance et la caractérisation morphosyntaxique des mots dans un texte arabe<br>The presented work in this memory tackles the problems involved in differentiation and text recognition in off-line mode in Arabic and Latin multilingual documents. The first part of this work relates to a method of differentiation between Arabic texts and Latin texts in two natures printed and handwritten. The second part proposes a new approach, called affixal approach, for Arabic word recognition and text analysis. This approach is characterized by modelling from morph-syntactic entities (word basic morphemes) by integrating the morpho-phonological aspects of Arabic vocabulary in the recognition process compared to the traditional approaches which proceed by the modelling of grahic entities (word, letter, pseudo word). The tests carried out show well the contribution of the approach on the recognition simplification and the morph-syntactic categorization of the words in an Arabic text

Pourquoi est-il si difficile de comprendre une langue de manière automatique, même si on ne vise qu'une compréhension limitée, factuelle et orientée vers des faits connus ? La langue, telle qu'elle s'offre à nous, semble trop malléable pour être directement appréhendable par ordinateur. C'est pourtant à ce problème que je me suis intéressé : comment identifier du semblable dans des productions langagières si variées, comment repérer des fragments de signification au milieu d'un océan de textes ? Ce mémoire se compose de quatre chapitres. Je reviens au sein du chapitre 1 sur certains développements récents de la linguistique informatique, pour montrer que la disponibilité de gros corpus a entraîné une forte opérationnalisation du domaine. Cette évolution n'est pas neutre théoriquement : l'apport des corpus et des techniques d'acquisition dynamique de connaissances (notamment par les techniques d'apprentissage) rend tout à fait plausible l'idée d'une sémantique fondée sur l'usage. Les trois chapitres suivants portent chacun sur un niveau d'analyse différent (niveau lexical pour l'annotation sémantique, niveau prédicatif pour l'extraction de relations, niveau textuel pour la modélisation de documents spécialisés). Je défends l'idée d'un continuum entre ces niveaux, du fait notamment que tous partagent des similarités fondamentales, ce qui peut se manifester parfois de manière très visible et influer sur les techniques utilisées. Le chapitre 2 traite du niveau lexical (microsémantique), essentiellement à travers l'analyse des « entités nommées » : ce type de séquences comprend notamment les noms propres, qui sont des éléments essentiels pour une prise de connaissance rapide du contenu des documents. Ces séquences, et plus particulièrement les noms propres, ont été largement étudiées dans le cadre des approches logiques ; mon travail se situe dans un cadre en partie hérité de cette tradition : celui-ci offre bien des avantages applicatifs mais les noms propres, comme le vocabulaire courant, sont soumis aux mêmes phénomènes de variation et de brouillage de sens, du fait des tropes notamment. Le chapitre 3 traite essentiellement des relations prédicatives (mésosémantique) : le repérage de ces séquences est essentiel pour les systèmes d'extraction d'information et de questions-réponses. Ces applications reposent en effet sur la mise en correspondance d'entités autour d'un prédicat. Je détaille différentes techniques permettant d'acquérir automatiquement ces structures à partir de corpus (classes sémantiques, cadres de sous-catégorisation et restrictions de sélection). Je montre que ces catégories sont floues et que les analyses à partir de corpus remettent en cause certaines classifications de la grammaire traditionnelle. Le chapitre 4 traite du contenu et de la structure de textes complexes, essentiellement techniques (macrosémantique). Le texte forme un tout cohérent, marqué par un ensemble de séquences (ou périodes) liées entre elles ; cette architecture textuelle est normée et elle est significative pour la compréhension globale. J'essaie d'étendre ce travail sur l'architecture textuelle à des ensembles de textes cohérents, afin d'aboutir à une typologie. Je montre là aussi le flou et la difficulté à définir des typologies cohérentes et, surtout, fondées linguistiquement. Je reviens, dans la conclusion, sur les similitudes observées entre ces différents paliers : la question de la relation entre mots et concepts, les bords flous des catégories envisagées, leur grande variabilité sur le plan linguistique. Je m'interroge sur le lien entre traitement automatique des langues (TAL) et linguistique, avant de proposer quelques perspectives permettant de poursuivre ce travail par d'autres chemins.

L'idée centrale de ce travail est que la présence de monnaie, entendue essentiellement comme le moyen de paiement à crédit, est une condition nécessaire d'existence des fluctuations liées à l'innovation réelle, dans le cas où les ressources sont indisponibles. L'innovation réelle doit être entendue au sens que lui accorde J. A. Schumpeter, à savoir comme une nouvelle fonction de production mise en place dans la sphère réelle par un entrepreneur. La démonstration de cette idée se fait en deux temps. Dans un premier temps, après exposition de ce que signifie absence -de monnaie, il est montré que l'absence de monnaie est une condition suffisante d'impossibilité des fluctuations liées à l'innovation réelle, dans le cas évoqué ci-dessus et dans ce cas seulement. Absence de monnaie signifie, en fait, présence implicite de monnaie dans ce qui est l'économie de référence pour cette absence, à savoir l'économie de troc : dans l'économie de troc, les marchandises sont monnaie. En utilisant une terminologie empruntée à K. Polani, elle est appelée économie à monnaie encastrée pour rendre compte de cette présence implicite et l'opposer à l'économie monétaire (économie à monnaie désencastrée) où la présence de monnaie (moyen de paiement à crédit) est explicite. En étudiant les rapports entre monnaie encastrée et fluctuations liées à toutes sortes de phénomènes, il est démontré alors que l'absence d'un mécanisme adéquat d'appropriation des ressources-monnaie encastrée empêche l'entrepreneur de réaliser immédiatement l'innovation, et par conséquent, la survenue des fluctuations qui y sont liées. Cette impossibilité ne vaut que pour ce cas. En d'autres termes, la monnaie désencastrée est une condition nécessaire d'existence des fluctuations liées à l'innovation réelle. Mais, il faut encore qu'elle ne soit que cela, c'est-à-dire qu'elle ne soit pas une condition suffisante. Ainsi, dans un second temps, après avoir cerné les caractéristiques de la monnaie désencastrée, caractéristiques juste suffisantes pour qu'elle joue son rôle de détournement des ressources des emplois existants vers de nouveaux emplois, il est montré que la place que tient la quantité additionnelle de moyen de paiement à 'crédit dans la séquence d'impulsion des fluctuations indique qu'elle n'est jamais que la cause immédiate de l'événement qui la suit et l'effet immédiat de celui qui la précède. Elle n'est donc qu'une condition nécessaire de l'existence des fluctuations liées à l'innovation réelle.

Nous nous intéressons à l’utilité et l’utilisabilité de la structure visuelle des textes, pour leur transposition à l’oral par des systèmes de synthèse de parole (TTS). Nous proposons la synoptique d’un système qui conduit à une représentation du texte interprétable par un TTS. Nous avons partiellement réalisé le module spécifique aux stratégies d’oralisation, afin de rendre articulables la part signifiante des textes, souvent oubliée. Des spécifications ont été précisées et partiellement intégrées par un partenaire industriel. Des hypothèses prédictives quant à l’impact sur la mémorisation/compréhension de deux stratégies issues de notre modèle d’oralisation par reformulation des textes écrits pour être lus silencieusement, ont été formulées et testées. Ce travail a montré que des fonctions cognitives étaient perdues. Des prototypes, exploitant la notion d’image de page, ont été imaginés à travers des interfaces dans lesquelles la multimodalité a pour rôle de combler cette lacune<br>The text to speech synthesis consists in creating speech by analysis of a text which is subjected to no restriction. The object of this thesis is to describe the modeling and the taking into account of knowledge in phonetic, phonological, morpho-lexical and syntactic necessary to the development of a complete system of voice synthesis starting from diacritized arab texts. The automatic generation of the prosodico-phonetics sequence required the development of several components. The morphosyntaxic labelling "TAGGAR" carries out grammatical labelling, a marking and a syntactic grouping and the automatic insertion of the pauses. Graphemes to phonemes conversion is ensured by using lexicons, syntactic grammars, morpho-orthographical and phonological rules. A multiplicative model of prediction of the duration of the phonemes is described and a model of generation of the prosodic contours based on the accents of the words and the syntactic group is presented

Dans la pensée musulmane, le « šahîd » (martyr) décrit par les textes fondateurs de l’islam s’est vu progressivement disparaître pour ne céder la place qu’à un seul genre, le « šahîd al-macraka » (martyr du combat). Plusieurs facteurs ont favorisé ce glissement sémantique, le shiisme du début de l’islam, les conquêtes, les sectes politiques et ésotériques. Le rôle du droit musulman n’a visé qu’à structurer cette réalité inconnue afin qu’elle ne s’oppose pas aux textes et au sens premier de témoignage que revêt le terme « šahîd ». L’œuvre des juristes a donc fait de l’interprétation le moyen par lequel s’est installée la cohérence entre les sources musulmanes d’une part et les nouvelles situations politiques, sociologiques et économiques d’autre part. C’est à travers ces contextes spécifiques, qu’ils soient anciens ou contemporains, que des figures de martyre vont attirer plus l’attention que d’autres. L’objectif étant, pour ceux qui mettent en avant ces personnages, d’augmenter leur légitimité et leur audience auprès des masses populaires musulmanes. Malgré une stabilité de la définition de la notion du martyre durant une certaine période de l’histoire de l’islam, les « nouveaux cas » de « šahîd » pose encore la problématique de savoir qui, dans la religion musulmane, peut être considéré comme martyr<br>In the muslim thought, the shahid (martyr) describes by texts founders of the islam saw gradually disappearing to give up the place only to a single kind the sahid al ma'raka (martyr of the fight). Several factors facilitated this semantic sliding : the shcisme of the beginning of the Islam, the conquests, the political and esoteric sects. The role of the muslim right aimed only at structuring this unknown reality so that it does not oppose to texts and to first sense of testimony which dresses (takes on) the sahid term. The work of the jurist made of the interpretation the means by which settles down the coherence between the muslim sources on one hand and the new political, sociological, and economic situations on the other hand. It is through these specific contexts, that they are former or contemporary, that martyr's faces are more going to draw the attention thatn the others. The being objective, for those who advance these characters, to increase their legitimacy and their audience with the muslim popular masses. ZusammenfassungHugo Loetschers Debütroman Abwässer (1963) wurde von der bisherigen Forschung nicht angemessen als unzuverlässig erzählter Text rezipiert. Dabei betrifft bei näherer Betrachtung genau dieser Aspekt das zentrale Thema des Textes: Die Rolle der Schweiz und ihrer sogenannten Neutralitätspolitik während und nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg sowie die zur Zeit der Abfassung systematische Unterdrückung ihrer Aufarbeitung durch die schweizerische Regierung. Eine genaue Analyse erweist den Text nicht als Haltungsempfehlung eines allgemeinen Humanismus, sondern als Ausdruck einer moralischen Verunsicherung, als Aufarbeitungs- und Selbstbeschreibungsversuch eines Landes, das nach dem unversehrten Überstehen des Zweiten Weltkriegs im Ost-West-Konflikt überhaupt erst eine tragfähige Basis für seine moralische Positionierung finden muss.

Analysiert werden die Reaktionen von Historikern auf den Roman zwischen Abwehr und Zustimmung im Wechselspiel mit Deutungen des Werks durch den Autor. Dabei wird der Anspruch des »Dokumentarromans« auf historische Authentizität und Objektivität mit Blick auf die narrativen Techniken des Textes hinterfragt. Scuratis Behauptung, mit den Mitteln seines Romans einen »neuen Antifaschismus« zu befördern, erweist sich angesichts seiner Grenzverwischungen zwischen Fiktion und historischer Analyse als hoch problematisch und ambivalent.

Inicialmente, nós investigamos e sumarizamos os termos contidos nos textos utilizando técnicas de mineração textual, por meio do Bag of Words (BoW). Após as análises exploratórias iniciais, utilizamos técnicas de agrupamento nos termos extraídos, permitindo avaliar as diferenças entre os elementos textuais nos grupos resultantes. Por fim, este estudo utiliza técnicas de mineração de texto, análise de agrupamentos e visualização de dados aplicados a um tema atual da sociedade, permitindo a descoberta de informações contidas nos textos extraídos e explicando casos de homofobia no twitter.

The FRA railroad grade crossing accident database contains text comment fields that may provide additional information about grade crossing accidents. New text mining algorithms provide the potential to automatically extract information from text that can enhance traditional numeric analyses. Topic modeling algorithms are statistical methods that analyze the words of original texts to automatically discover the themes that run through them. A frequently used topic-modeling algorithm is Latent Dirichlet Analysis (LDA). In this paper we will show several examples of how labeled LDA can be applied to the FRA grade crossing data to better understand categories of words and phrases that are associated with various types of grade crossing accidents.

One major problem in Natural Language Processing is the automatic analysis and representation of human language. Human language is ambiguous and deeper understanding of semantics and creating human-to-machine interaction have required an effort in creating the schemes for act of communication and building common-sense knowledge bases for the ‘meaning’ in texts. This paper introduces computational methods for semantic analysis and the quantifying the meaning of short scientific texts. Computational methods extracting semantic feature are used to analyse the relations between texts of messages and ‘representations of situations’ for a newly created large collection of scientific texts, Leicester Scientific Corpus. The representation of scientific-specific meaning is standardised by replacing the situation representations, rather than psychological properties, with the vectors of some attributes: a list of scientific subject categories that the text belongs to. First, this paper introduces ‘Meaning Space’ in which the informational representation of the meaning is extracted from the occurrence of the word in texts across the scientific categories, i.e., the meaning of a word is represented by a vector of Relative Information Gain about the subject categories. Then, the meaning space is statistically analysed for Leicester Scientific Dictionary-Core and we investigate ‘Principal Components of the Meaning’ to describe the adequate dimensions of the meaning. The research in this paper conducts the base for the geometric representation of the meaning of texts.

Abstract This paper describes an innovative assessment method that provides formative feedback on the effectiveness of an engineering textbook. We describe the development of the Text Learning Capture Method and the prior art that it is drawn from. We then go on to interpret and analyze the protocols captured with the method and describe the preliminary results generated with its application. Concrete examples of how the feedback enables us to identify the text’s readability, comprehensibility, and usability are given. From the analysis a list of questions was generated about how students learn from engineering textbooks. The textbook assessment work presented here was motivated by a desire on the part of the author of the textbook (hereafter the text-author in contrast to the authors of this paper) to understand more fully the role of this textbook in supporting student learning. We began with questions such as: “Do students relate to the real-world examples given?”; “How do students work through the equations?”; “How are figures utilized?”; “Are students excited by a textbook that uses a familiar multi-faceted artifact to demonstrate engineering principles?”. In our attempts to carefully answer these questions we generated questions such as: “Can learning from a text book be thought of as passive?”; “What constitutes effective learning from texts?”; “What are best reading practices?”; and “How much control does an author have over this?”.

Moreover, the text analyzer should allow for meaningful analysis, and not be limited to comparing the values of planned and actual indicators of the document. Therefore, the use of a content analyzer and a semantic-syntactic parser allows both deep analysis of the document text and providing various forms of presentation of results, which solves the tasks.

In this paper, a discourse-based method that merges syntactic and semantic models for developing an automated system for reading comprehension assessment is proposed. For evaluating semantic content, we use the classical models from the literature: Vector Space Modelling and Latent Semantic Analysis. For evaluating the coherence of a text, we used an entity grid representation of the texts, which extracts syntactic patterns from the texts and relies on the assumption that coherent texts will have similar underlying syntactic patterns. The contribution of this work is twofold: firstly, we develop a new methodology for free-text responses in which we assess student‘s texts by semantic content and coherence. Secondly, we develop an automated system for assessing a student's reading comprehension for Spanish language using features that can be computed automatically. Experiments show that we can get accuracies of 90% when assessing text content, and of 55% - 60% when assessing text coherence.

Reading is a cognitive activity, a means by which teachers can assess the student's level of understanding based on reading strategies. Inference of a student's processing level, of text understanding, is based on an analysis of reading strategies. We used a corpus of tests in which students were asked to read a text loudly, stop after each section of the text read and explain what they understood so far. Explanations given by students after each section read represent a step ahead in determining the level of text understanding. Verbalizations have been manually assessed and different correlation elements were found within each one of them. The first aspect analyzed in terms of text understanding level was the manual calculation of the text reading speed and the verbalization speed. We express the overall average speed of the text read as the number of words read in relation to the duration of the text read, and the overall average speed of verbalization is the number of words rendered in relation to the duration of verbalization. The values obtained were used to achieve a correlation between text reading speed and text understanding level, between verbalized text speed and text understanding level. In relation to these results, we can achieve a classification of pause types from texts read and verbalizations made by students. A feature used in classifying the types of pauses in reading a text can be subject to the text understanding level, text reading method, age psychology which may influence the reading of a text. Pauses encountered in reading a text or in verbalizing it appear as hesitations, word repetitions, and interruptions, such type of pause being related to a certain pause feature. From a cognitive point of view, pauses may be classified in terms of what the student thinks while reading a text or during verbalization. We can have another classification of pauses in terms of text reading speed and verbalization speed. A text that is quickly understood and read shows very rare pauses and we can call these short breaks, while in a text that is not understood and is read slowly, with difficulty, pauses can be interruptions or fragmentations. Pauses in the form of hesitations usually occur in the verbalization when a text's self-explanation is not clearly understood.

This paper deals with the specialized corpora building, specifically academic language corpus in the biotechnology field. Being a part of larger research devoted to creation and usage of specialized parallel corpus, this piece aims to analyze the initial step of corpus building. Our main research question was what procedures we need to implement to the texts before using them to develop the corpus. Analysis of previous research showed the significant quantity of papers devoted to corpora creation, including academic specialized corpora. Different sides of the process were analyzed in these researches, including the types of texts used, the principles of crawling, the recommended length of texts etc. As to the text processing for the needs of corpora creation, only the linguistic annotation issues were examined earlier. At the same time, the preliminary cleaning of texts before their usage in corpora may have significant influence on the corpus quality and its utility for the linguistic research. In this paper, we considered three small corpora derived from the same set of academic texts in the biotechnology field: “raw” corpus without any preliminary cleaning and two corpora with different level of cleaning. Using different Sketch Engine tools, we analyzed these corpora from the position of their future users, predominantly as sources for academic wordlists and specialized multi-word units. The conducted research showed very little difference between two cleaned corpora, meaning that only basic cleaning procedures such as removal of reference lists are can be useful in corpora design. At the same time, we found a significant difference between raw and cleaned corpora and argue that this difference can affect the quality of wordlists and multi-word terms extraction, therefore these cleaning procedures are meaningful. The main limitation of the study is that all texts were taken from the unique source, so the conclusions could be affected by this specific journal’s peculiarities. Therefore, the future work should be the verification of results on different text collections

The article is devoted to the analysis of communicative verbs. Scientists analyzed communicative verbs in artistic texts, in biblical texts, and fairy tales. But there are no scientific works on verbs of speech in the language of the media. The Ukrainian language has all the means by which you can create a concrete and imaginative informational text. It is the verbs that make the text come alive. These are action words that improve the orality of the text. The research is based on the materials of the Ukrinform information agency. Speech verbs from 10 news reports for December 3, 2022 were analyzed. A total of 30 lexemes were recorded. They occur in the texts 73 times. And make up 31.2% of all verbs and 3.6% of all words. All verbs are divided into 22 groups according to semantics. The most common is the group with the meaning “to inform,”. Etymologically, 7 lexemes have borrowed roots, the rest are Proto-Slavic in origin. With the help of communicative verbs, journalists convey various shades of meaning and quality of someone else’s speech in the texts of news reports. The lexemes of oral speech penetrate into the written network text as well, creating new forms and platforms of communication. Prospects for further research are that there is a need to study communicative verbs in the language of traditional and new media, to make a comparative analysis of their use in different types of media, to trace the etymological connections between lexemes for more thorough conclusions. The main objective of the study is to reveal the functional parameters of anthroponyms in the media texts. Methods of investigation: the method of media texts monitoring, the comparative method; the method of contextual analysis, the methods of functional analysis. Results. Anthroponyms in media texts contribute to the exact reproduction of facts, the display of a certain time-space. The use of an anthroponym in the media gives its bearer greater social significance; silencing an anthroponym demonstrates a desire to remove its bearer from the public agenda. Anthroponyms can reflect person’s social connections, inform about a belonging to a certain national, ethnic, age, social group. Conclusions Anthroponyms give media text more credibility, because they inform about a specific person in specific realities, personalize information. Anthroponyms are capable to mark time-space, therefore the actualization of proper names can be a means of transferring to another time, informing about forgotten historical facts and persons. Given the ability of anthroponyms – the names of famous persons – to be reduced, the journalist should take into account the possible difficulties of identifying such a person in a different time-space or under the condition of insufficient recognition. Entering the language game, anthroponyms are actualizing simultaneously meanings associated with different time-spaces, such ability can be effectively used to draw historical or cultural parallels, create an expressive load. Given the ability of anthroponyms to increase or decrease social status, journalists should be responsible in the selection of proper names as part of the factual material of the media text. Marking through anthroponyms the connection with national, social, age groups makes these words unique identifiers of the division into “own” or “strangers”, demonstrates the attitude of the speaker towards the bearer of his own name. Significance. The revealed functional parameters of anthroponyms as part of the actual material of the media text provide journalists with ample opportunities for the implementation of various communicative tasks. The purpose of the study is to identify the figurative means in the formal diplomatic texts of speeches of chief delegates of the Ukrainian SSR to exert influence at the sessions of the UN General Assembly. Based on the interpretive method of speech analysis and the method of generalisation of the data obtained, an attempt was made to identify the main figurative means and expressiveness of speech, which help to achieve the effect of influence on the reader (listener). In order to identify hidden meanings, a hermeneutic approach to understanding texts was used. According to the results of the study, the most actively used linguistic means of figurativeness in the considered texts are epithets, metaphors, phraseologies. There are many more negative epithets used in the texts of speeches than positive ones, which aim to make people aware of the idea of self-preservation, to arouse emotions of anxiety, fear, vigilance. Metaphors of positive and negative evaluation are used to verbalise mental states, social states and thought processes. Most of the epithets, metaphors, idioms represented in the text are used to denote a negative evaluation, which is perceived as a deviation from the norm and is motivated by the following factors: the reluctance of people to take positive action, irresponsible attitude of some people towards others, socially unacceptable flaws and shortcomings. A logical continuation of this study is the analysis of linguistic means of figurativeness and evaluativity of other types of texts of the official style, including statements and conventions.

In tertiary contexts where adults study writing for future academic purposes, teaching and learning via portfolio provides them with multiple opportunities to create and recreate texts characteristic of their future and imagined discourse communities. This paper discusses the value of portfolios as vehicles for rehearsing membership of what Benedict Anderson (1983) called “imagined communities”, a concept applied by such scholars as Yasuko Kanno and Bonny Norton (2003). Portfolios can achieve this process of apprenticeship to a specialist discourse through reproducing texts similar to the authentic artefacts of those discourse communities (Flowerdew, 2000; Hyland, 2003, 2004). We consider the value of multi-drafting, where learners reflect on the learning of a text type characteristic of the students’ future imagined community. We explore Hamp-Lyons and Condon’s belief (2000) that portfolios “critically engage students and teachers in continual discussion, analysis and evaluation of their processes and progress as writers, as reflected in multiple written products” (p.15). Introduced by a discussion of how theoretical perspectives on learning and assessing writing engage with portfolio production, the study presented here outlines a situated pedagogical approach, where students report on their improvement across three portfolio drafts and assess their learning reflectively. A multicultural group of 41 learners enrolled in the degree-level course Academic Writing [AW] at a tertiary institution in New Zealand took part in a study reflecting on this approach to building awareness of one’s own writing. Focus group interviews with a researcher at the final stage of the programme provided qualitative data, which was transcribed and analysed using textual analysis methods (Ryan and Bernard, 2003). Students identified a range of advantages of teaching and learning AW by portfolio. One of the identified benefits was that the selected text types within the programme were perceived as useful to the students’ immediate futures. This careful choice of target genre was reflected in the overall value of the programme for these learners.

The article examines modern media texts in the field of political journalism; the role of information narratives and emotional markers in media doctrine is clarified; verbal expression of rational meanings in the articles of famous Ukrainian analysts is shown. Popular theories of emotions in the process of cognition are considered, their relationship with the author’s personality, reader psychology and gonzo journalism is shown. Since the media text, in contrast to the text, is a product of social communication, the main narrative is information with the intention of influencing public opinion. Media text implies the presence of the author as a creator of meanings. In addition, media texts have universal features: word, sound, visuality (stills, photos, videos). They are traditionally divided into radio, TV, newspaper and Internet texts. The concepts of multimedia and hypertext are related to online texts. Web combinations, especially in political journalism, have intensified the interactive branching of nonlinear texts that cannot be published in traditional media. The Internet as a medium has created the conditions for the exchange of ideas in the most emotional way. Hence Gonzo’s interest in journalism, which expresses impressions of certain events in words and epithets, regardless of their stylistic affiliation. There are many such examples on social media in connection with the events surrounding the Wagnerians, the Poroshenko case, Russia’s new aggression against Ukraine, and others. Thus, the study of new features of media text in the context of modern political narratives and emotional markers is important in media research. The article focuses review of etymology, origin and features of using lexemes “cмисл (meaning)” and “сенс (sense)” in linguistic practice of Ukrainians results in the development of meanings and functional stylistic coloring in the usage of these units. Lexemes “cмисл (meaning)” and “сенс (sense)” are used as synonyms, but there are specific fields of meanings where they cannot be interchanged: lexeme “сенс (sense)” should be used when it comes to reasonable grounds for something, lexeme “cмисл (meaning)” should be used when it comes to notion, concept, understanding. Modern political texts are most prominent in genres such as interviews with politicians, political commentaries, analytical articles by media experts and journalists, political reviews, political portraits, political talk shows, and conversations about recent events, accompanied by effective emotional narratives. Etymologically, the concept of “narrative” is associated with the Latin adjective “gnarus” – expert. Speakers, philosophers, and literary critics considered narrative an “example of the human mind.” In modern media texts it is not only “story”, “explanation”, “message techniques”, “chronological reproduction of events”, but first of all the semantic load and what subjective meanings the author voices; it is a process of logical presentation of arguments (narration). The highly professional narrator uses narration as a “method of organizing discourse” around facts and impressions, impresses with his political erudition, extraordinary intelligence and creativity. Some of the above theses are reflected in the following illustrations from the Ukrainian media: “Culture outside politics” – a pro-Russian narrative…” (MP Gabibullayeva); “The next will be Russia – in the post-Soviet space is the Arab Spring…” (journalist Vitaly Portnikov); “In Russia, only the collapse of Ukraine will be perceived as success” (Pavel Klimkin); “Our army is fighting, hiding from the leadership” (Yuri Butusov).
