Full textEfficient organizations need to ensure that their business processes are flexible so that these processes can easily accommodate changes in regulations and policies. Appropriate techniques to model and verify these processes are required. In this manuscript, we present a rule-based model, called ECAPE-M, that aims at improving the management of business processes in terms of flexibility and verification. This model extends the Event-Condition-Action (ECA) model and suggests formal tools for verification purposes. In this approach, the logic of a process is defined with a set of business rules that correspond to the policies in the organization. Each business rule is represented using the Event-Condition-Action-Post-condition-post-Event (ECAPE) formalisms. The representation of our rule-based approach requires a new declarative language that will offer the necessary syntax and semantics to describe ECAPE rules and the core elements in a business process. These elements are participants, variables, and activities. For this reason, we propose a new the rule-based business process definition language called ECAPE-L, which has an XML-based syntax to describe business processes in declarative way. An advantage of the ECAPE-M is that a process can be easily translated into a graph of rules. This graph is used to first, look into the changes of rules by checking the relationships between the rules and second, estimate cost changes in a process. Another advantage of the ECAPE-M is the translation of a process into a new colored Petri net called ECAPE net. An ECAPE net is used to check if a process satisfies some properties such as no Deadlock, and no Livelock. Finally, we proposed the BP-FAMA as an integration environment of the different elements we proposed. This environment consists of different tools namely:Business Rules Definer; Business Rules behavior analyzer and Business Rules simulator

Full textNowadays, the use of business process management techniques within companies allows a significant improvement in the efficiency of the operational systems. These techniques assist business experts in modelling business processes, implementation, analytics, and enhancements. The execution context of a business process contains information to identify and understand the interactions between itself and other processes. The first process is triggered following a customer need (operational process) and the others, following the need of the operationnal process (support processes). The satisfaction of a customer need depends on an effective interaction between an operational process and the related support processes. These interactions are defined through operational data, manipulated by the operational process, and support data, manipulated by the support processes. Our work is based on the framework of Model Driven Engineering. The approach proposed in this thesis is based on the annotation of operational or support process models. This annotation is performed with the help of an ontology defining the business domain described by these processes. These annotations are then exploited to constitute a set of data, called contextual data. The analysis of the traces of the execution of the operational process and of these contextual data makes it possible to select the best sub set of contextual data, in the business sense. Thus, an operational process can be associated with a set of support processes via the contextual data

Full textBusiness processes undergo standardization. This standardization is achieved through domination, confrontation and incorporation, means that have their origins in methods like Taylorism, reengineering or the implementation of tools such as ERP systems. Prescription and standardization of business processes, however, create problems for organizations, at the strategic, functional and operating levels. Our research attempts to uncover on one hand novel ways of standardizing processes and on the other the conditions facilitating the emergence of these new ways.Convinced that change cannot be defined any more as the imposition of an a priori model or a promulgated standard, we investigate how work practices may contribute to the creation of standards, and result in “practiced” standards. To find solutions to the problems met with current ways of standardizing, we propose a model, which places practice at the heart of a spiral of creation of organizational knowledge. Through an action research project, we analyze the effects of the implementation of this model in two different settings, namely a public banking institute and a conglomerate of national press, requiring different conditions for change. Our findings, which differ considerably from one case to the other, highlight how the “practiced” standard emerges as a novel way of standardizing. First, we notice that the “practiced” standard feeds on the promulgated standard to anchor business processes in the whole organization. Second, the emergence and the development of the “practiced” standard bring to light specific processes that operate in the organization, namely a process of sensemaking, the support of a structure of power parallel to the official one, and a process of organizational innovation

Full textBusiness Process Management (BPM) involves continuous improvement through stages such as design, modeling, execution, monitoring, optimization, and automation. A key aspect of BPM is Business Process (BP) mining, which analyzes event logs to identify process inefficiencies and deviations, focusing on process prediction and conformance checking. This thesis explores the challenges of BP mining within email-driven processes, which are essential for streamlining operations and maximizing productivity.Conformance checking ensures that actual process execution aligns with predicted models, maintaining adherence to predefined standards. Process prediction forecasts future behavior based on historical data, aiding in resource optimization and workload management. Applying these techniques to email-driven processes presents unique challenges, as these processes lack the formal models found in traditional BPM systems and thus require tailored methodologies. The unique structure of email-derived event logs, featuring attributes such as interlocutor speech acts and relevant business data, complicates the application of standard BP mining methods. Integrating these attributes into existing business process techniques and email systems demands advanced algorithms and substantial customization, further complicated by the dynamic context of email communications. To address these challenges, this thesis aims to implement multi-perspective conformance checking and develop a process-activity-aware email response recommendation system. This involves creating a process model based on sequential and contextual constraints specified by a data analyst/expert, developing algorithms to identify fulfilling and violating events, leveraging event logs to predict BP knowledge, and recommending email response templates. The guiding principles include context sensitivity, interdisciplinarity, consistency, automation, and integration. The contributions of this research include a comprehensive framework for analyzing email-driven processes, combining process prediction and conformance checking to enhance email communication by suggesting appropriate response templates and evaluating emails for conformance before sending. Validation is achieved through real email datasets, providing a practical basis for comparison and future research

Full textThe aim of this research was to analyse the féminization and professional equality processes in jobs seen as male. At the end of an introductory chapter introducing the context of women’s work in France through a short historical review, the literature outlines the issues affecting women in trades and analyzes the variables that represent a job as masculine or feminine. It clarifies the sociological, legislative and organisational contexts that help promote women’s employment and develop gender diversity and professional equality, in industrial sectors known as “male”. It also shows the central role of the Human Resource function in piloting and implementing these processes. The research questions and theoretical frameworks are exposed. The empirical part confronts our research questions with field studies. It is based on an analysis of a main case and an additional case, using a qualitative methodology. This qualitative approach is completed in the main case study, by a quantitative analysis, both conducted with key leaders of the company and a sample of employees. The main results show that the implementation of gender diversity and professional equality processes in these sectors requires strong managerial commitment and involvement of all employees, associated with ongoing training and information. Resistance should not be overlooked, but important contributions appear not only regarding the perception of social performance, but also in the organizational capacity to understand and control managerial changes leading to a better overall performance of the organization. It also appears that implementing gender diversity is the first step leading to transferability to other dimensions of diversity, such as disability or ethnic diversity
