Résumé Au début des années 1960, on parlait beaucoup au Québec de la nécessité de fournir un effort social global pour améliorer les conditions de vie de la population défavorisée. À partir d'un mandat de la Commission d'enquête sur la santé et le bien-être social, une recherche exploratoire fut effectuée afin de connaître la perception des économiquement faibles de diverses situations. Les témoignages nous révèlent leurs perceptions de la pauvreté, des systèmes d'assistance et de santé tandis qu'une analyse met en lumière leur vision du monde ainsi que l'objet et le plan sur lequel se situent leurs revendications.

Cet article porte sur la dynamique de la voix dans ses dimensions physiques et temporelles. Allant des recherches sur le son menées au XVIIIe siècle à la théorisation de Mladen Dolar sur la voix désincarnée, en passant par les expériences de certains dramaturges sur l’écoute et la réécoute du son de la représentation, l’auteure examine certaines pratiques de production sonore, dont 1) l’utilisation de voix live et de voix enregistrées; 2) le ventriloquisme et l’acousmatisation. C’est à partir de ces pratiques qu’elle analyse la performativité et la matérialité de la voix. L’article repose sur l’hypothèse suivante : la voix dont la source corporelle ne serait ni visible ni perceptible ne contribue pas à la mise en scène mais en devient un élément matériel. Il se termine par une analyse du personnage de la Voix dans Eh Joe que Samuel Beckett a écrit pour la télévision en 1965.

Les textes de Bauchau portent en eux des voix multiples qui font penser à l’oratorio, on l’entend aller vers l’opéra. Cet article analyse les écritures du livret dans lesquelles il apparaît qu’Henry Bauchau cherche à faire lever des voix une tonalité musicale dans les déchirures des phrases plutôt que de monter un récit. Cette priorité de la voix sur la narration, caractéristique de l’opéra contemporain, est ensuite analysée plus en détail dans La lumière Antigone qui, à la différence des autres opéras, n’est pas une simple adaptation du roman, mais en constitue comme une suite, un prolongement. La voix « lumineuse » d’Antigone alliée à la musique se fait ainsi réécriture du mythe qu’elle archive : celle de la scène, toujours renouvelée, de la résistance dans le désastre mondialisé. L’article porte en annexe deux lettres de Pierre Bartholomée à M. Calle-Gruber.

L’artiste québécoise Geneviève Cadieux propose avec l’oeuvre La Voie lactée une vision de l’intime tout à fait singulière en mettant en représentation son propre regard sur les lèvres maternelles. Analysant la portée féministe de cette vision de l’intime à l’oeuvre dans l’installation de Cadieux, l’auteure soulève dans le cadre de cet article plusieurs thématiques : la déconstruction de l’image traditionnelle et masculine de la femme, l’identification de la fille à la mère, la construction d’une identité de genre et l’érotisme. L’article révèle donc l’extrême richesse de La Voie lactée, et ce, en dépit d’une grande économie de moyen artistique : soit un gros plan photographique des lèvres fardées d’une femme sur le toit du Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. En prenant assise sur des textes, entre autres, de Sigmund Freud, de René Payant, de Luce Irigaray et de Judith Butler, l’auteure analyse l’oeuvre afin d’en proposer une lecture qui définit l’intime comme stratégie féministe actuelle. C’est ainsi que La Voie lactée permet, selon l’auteure, une révision actualisée de la maxime féministe des année soixante-dix « le privé est politique ».

La ville de Moncton est privilégiée dans l’analyse étant donné le nombre d’institutions acadiennes qui y sont installées, l’hétérogénéité culturelle et linguistique qui la caractérise, et les discours abondants sur la langue qui y circulent.

Parmi elles, plus spécifiquement, une voix sans parole qui n’est pas un vecteur de communication, mais véhicule d’un désir de l’Autre. Cette voix qui exprime l’indicible, est paradoxalement mise en mot dans le dialogue d’Antigone et d’Hannah et trouve un écho dans la musique. «Bauchau intègre le cri d’Antigone, cette poussée extime d’un informulé informulable et agrammatical qui demande pourtant à se manifester. Pierre Bartholomée offre à ce cri, à cette parole Antigone, un monde musical. »

Résumé Cet article traite de l'utilisation de stratégies de recherche lexicale en traduction par des étudiants adultes d'anglais, langue étrangère. La recherche fait suite à une analyse de l'utilisation, par des apprentis traducteurs, des connaissances grammaticales (voir Mondahl et Jensen 1989; Mondahl 1991). Les données proviennent d'une expérience où les sujets doivent penser à haute voix tout en traduisant et dont les résultats ont été soumis à une analyse qualitative. Les auteurs restreignent ici leur observation à 4 des 10 sujets de l'expérience et se concentrent sur les stratégies de recherche lexicale, sur la description du cadre cognitif à l'intérieur duquel les sujets travaillent. Une description des dijférents types de stratégies de recherche montre que les stratégies de reformulation et d'associations spontanées sont les plus employées par les sujets.

Cet article analyse le roman de Mme de Grafigny Lettres d’une Péruvienne (1747), œuvre fondée sur le «modèle ou type portugais»: formule à une seule voix, toujours la voix d’une femme qui s’adresse à l’homme qu’elle aime d’amour, mais dont les lettres n’obtiennent pas de réponses, et dont l’appellation provient du roman épistolaire Lettres portugaises (1669). Les Lettres de Grafigny devinrent rapidement l’une des succès les plus importants de la littérature française au XVIIIe siècle, semblable à celui de La Nouvelle Héloïse de Rousseau d’années plus tard. Après avoir étudié la situation de la narration en France pendant la première moitié du XVIIIe siècle, ainsi que la figure de Mme de Grafigny, on fait une analyse des éditions, suites, réception et structure des Lettres.

Plusieurs études ont porté sur la démarche de recherche collaborative. Certaines questions liées à l’activité réflexive et à la complexité de l’imbrication des voix des acteurs, dans cette zone interprétative partagée où se co-constituent les données de la recherche, demeurent cependant peu explorées. Nous abordons cette complexité dans le cadre d’un projet impliquant chercheurs et conseillers pédagogiques en mathématiques au primaire. Une analyse s’appuyant sur le concept de polyphonie de Bakhtine (1970) nous permet de voir comment l’activité réflexive conduit à des construits dialogiques concernant la résolution de problèmes en contexte d’enseignement et l’accompagnement des enseignants par les conseillers pédagogiques.

Abstract:
Ce travail porte sur l'étude de la production de la voix. L'objectif principal est de proposer des solutions pour son analyse-synthèse qui permettent une large représentation de la diversité des signaux biométriques (observés en pratique) dans le cadre du paradigme source-filtre ou de modèles physiques simplifiés. L'étude est menée selon trois axes : l'exploration de l'activité laryngée, la modélisation de la phonation et l'analyse-synthèse sonore. Après une description de l'appareil phonatoire et de modèles d'analyse-synthèse actuels, la première partie s'intéresse à l'exploration de signaux biométriques. A partir du recensement des dispositifs actuels, nous proposons un outil de synchronisation qui révèle la complexité du mouvement 3D des plis vocaux. Une étude comparative avec un système acoustique à valve humaine similaire (lèvres d'un tromboniste) est menée et le développement d'un nouvel outil combinant deux techniques récentes d'imagerie électrique est proposé. Dans la deuxième partie, deux algorithmes d'analyse sont proposés pour un modèle source-filtre fondé sur une représentation tous-pôles causale-anticausale du signal vocal. Un calcul du cepstre complexe est proposé, garantissant l'holomorphie sur une couronne de convergence dans le domaine en Z. Cet outil est alors exploité pour la séparation de la source et du filtre. Enfin, des représentations paramétriques des signaux d'aire glottique sont exploitées pour piloter des modèles à géométrie forcée. Un modèle de synthèse, inspiré du modèle source-filtre mais intégrant l'effet du couplage entre la glotte et le conduit vocal, et des avancées sur la modélisation de conduit vocal à profil régulier sont présentées.

Il s'agit d'une nouvelle approche du phenomene du passif en anglais contemporain. Notre analyse s'inscrit dans le cadre de la theorie metaoperationnelle elaboree par le professeur henri adamczewski. L'objectif de cette these c'est de montrer que la construction passive en anglais contemporain est le resultat d'operations metalinguistiques declenchees par le caractere thematique du sujet grammatical non-agent choisi comme point de depart de l'enonce. En fait, loin d'etre une simple transformation du schema actif. La construction passive permet d'assurer la cohesion discursive. C'est la la raison d'etre fondamentale du passif. La confrontation du passif anglais avec le passif arabe a montre que ce qui prime dans l'operation de passivation c'est bel et bien la relation sujet grammatical / predicat verbal. Le complement d'agent, generalement absent, est un element rhematique quand il est present. Les notions de transitivite et du passif, aussi liees soient-elles, ne sont pas inherentes a la langue : elles sont le resultat d'operations de mise en discours.

Notre recherche est une contribution à l’étude des indices acoustiques secondaires des tons lexicaux en mandarin, comparant les données recueillies en parole modale avec celles obtenues en parole chuchotée. Selon la littérature, ces indices devraient se présenter en tant qu’un ensemble d’attributs dans les dimensions acoustiques du spectre, outre que dans la fréquence fondamentale. Nous avons analysé des attributs temporels, des attributs au niveau de l’intensité, des attributs spectraux, ainsi que leur corrélation avec les tons. Les résultats montrent que certains paramètres temporels et la quatrième résonance du spectre sont étroitement liés au ton. Leurs rapports dépendent de la caractéristique intrinsèque de la voyelle qui porte le ton (équivalente de la rime dans notre recherche)
Our research is a contribution to studies on secondary acoustic cues in Mandarin tone identification, by comparing acoustic data collected in modal speech and in whispered speech. According to the literature on the same issue, theses cues could be found in acoustic dimensions other than in the fundamental frequency, as a set of attributes. We have analyzed these attributes in the temporal domain, at the intensity level and in the spectrum, as well as their relations with tones. Our results show that some temporal parameters and the fourth resonance in the spectrum are very closely related to tones. These relations are dependent on the intrinsic characteristics of the vowel that carries the tone (which is equivalent to the rime in our research)

Ce travail, réalisé dans le cadre conceptuel de la Grammaire Applicative et Cognitive a pour but d'analyser les constructions impersonnelles en français et de proposer une théorie formelle de celles-ci. Nous avons tâché d'expliciter le mécanisme grammatical sous-jacent au phénomène de l'impersonnel. Nous sommes parti de l'analyse syntactique des constructions impersonnelles utilisant à cette fin la Grammaire Catégorielle Combinatoire Applicative – une variante évoluée des grammaires catégorielles. Après cette étape, nous avons relié les différentes construction utilisant le cadre formel de la GA&C incluant certaines méthodes logiques et nous avons réussi à prouver leur appartenance au système des voix en français. En nous guidant du classement sémantico-cognitif des significations verbales de la GA&C, nous avons entrepris un classement des verbes qui se construisent impersonnelement. Nous avons procédé également à une étude des valeurs aspecto-temporelles des impersonnels. Le travail s'achève par une étude syntactique des constructions impersonnelles en bulgare qui a montré qu'il existe des similitudes entre le mécanisme grammatical et le fonctionnement des impersonnels dans le français et le bulgare
This work, developped within the conceptual framework of the Applicative and Cognitive Grammar (GA&C), aims to analyse the French impersonnal constructions and to propose a formal theory of it. We tried to make more explicit the grammatical mechanism underlying this phenomenon. We have used an advanced variant of the categorial grammars called Categorial Combinatory Applicative Grammar to achieve the syntactic analysis of the impersonnals. After that stage, we used some logical methods within the GA&C to prove the unicity of the impersonnals and its belonging to the mechanism of the expression of the grammatical voice. Using the semantic and cognitive based classification of the verbal meanings of the GA&C, we have drew up a semantic classification of the verbs used in such a constructions. We made also a study of the aspectual values of the impersonnal constructions of different types. The work contains, as a last chapter, a syntatic study of the Bulgarian impersonnal constructions which demonstrates the closeness of the grammatical mechanisms of the impersonnals in French and Bulgarian

Outre son contenu semantique, le signal vocal vehicule une information sur le locuteur. Cette information provoque une modification de la voix parfois si importante que les systemes automatiques se trouvent en echec. Une des causes preponderante d'une telle variabilite est l'etat emotionnel du locuteur qui est l'objet de ce travail. Apres avoir rappele le mecanisme de la production de la parole, les caracteristiques acoustiques des differents groupes de phonemes (voyelles, constrictives, occlusives,) sont decrites, ainsi qu'une premiere approche des causes possibles de variabilite. La theorie des modeles et transformations utilisees est rappelee et leur application pratique est developpee. Une revue de la litterature sur le sujet voix et emotions permet de definir le cadre dans lequel cette recherche a ete menee. Les resultats des analyses acoustiques sont alors presentes pour un vol d'essai sur airbus a340 apres validation, par un test de stress (test de stroop), des indicateurs proposes. On montre, conformement a la litterature, une augmentation de la frequence fondamentale moyenne ainsi que des fluctuations plus importantes en situation de stress. Le diagramme de probabilite spectrale cumulee permet la mise en evidence d'un renforcement du niveau des frequences elevees dans le spectre. L'analyse des consonnes montre une plus grande precision et une plus grande clarte de l'articulation. Nous avons montre l'efficacite des caracteristiques des voyelles comme indicateurs du stress, et plus generalement leur sensibilite a une perturbation emotionnelle du locuteur

L'objectif de cette thèse est de proposer un système de reconnaissance automatique des émotions (RAE) par analyse de la voix pour une application dans un contexte pédagogique d'orchestration de classe. Ce système s'appuie sur l'extraction de nouvelles caractéristiques, par démodulation en amplitude et en fréquence, de la voix ; considérée comme un signal multi-composantes modulé en amplitude et en fréquence (AM-FM), non-stationnaire et issue d'un système non-linéaire. Cette démodulation est basée sur l’utilisation conjointe de la décomposition en modes empiriques (EMD) et de l’opérateur d’énergie de Teager-Kaiser (TKEO).Dans ce système, le modèle discret (ou catégoriel) a été retenu pour représenter les six émotions de base (la tristesse, la colère, la joie, le dégoût, la peur et la surprise) et l'émotion dite neutre. La reconnaissance automatique a été optimisée par la recherche de la meilleure combinaison de caractéristiques, la sélection des plus pertinentes et par comparaison de différentes approches de classification. Deux bases de données émotionnelles de référence, en allemand et en espagnol, ont servi à entrainer et évaluer ce système. Une nouvelle base de données en Français, plus appropriée pour le contexte pédagogique a été construite, testée et validée
The aim of this thesis is to propose a speech emotion recognition (SER) system for application in classroom. This system has been built up using novel features based on the amplitude and frequency (AM-FM) modulation model of speech signal. This model is based on the joint use of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and the Teager-Kaiser energy operator (TKEO). In this system, the discrete (or categorical) emotion theory was chosen to represent the six basic emotions (sadness, anger, joy, disgust, fear and surprise) and neutral emotion.Automatic recognition has been optimized by finding the best combination of features, selecting the most relevant ones and comparing different classification approaches. Two reference speech emotional databases, in German and Spanish, were used to train and evaluate this system. A new database in French, more appropriate for the educational context was built, tested andvalidated

L’innu est une langue algonquienne parlée au Québec et au Labrador par environ 10 000 locuteurs. Ce mémoire examine l’aspectualité de la voix passive ainsi que le phénomène du passif lexical en innu, un sous-type de passif peu documenté au sein des langues algonquiennes. L’étude de cas menée dans ce but révèle que certaines formes verbales passives en innu peuvent osciller entre une sémantique dynamique et stative/résultative. Ce mémoire propose d’envisager les formes statives/résultatives comme des formes passives lexicalisées dans la langue. L’étude met aussi en lumière des formes verbales apparentées à la voix passive et à la voix moyenne également présentes dans d’autres langues algonquiennes qui sont traitées comme des passifs lexicaux en tant que tels dans le présent travail. Les annexes fournissent les données de l’étude de cas menée dans le cadre de ce mémoire ainsi qu’une sélection de phrases passives tirées de l’ouvrage Eukuan nin matshimanitu innu-iskueu (Kapesh, 1976). Les annexes fournissent également une sélection de formes verbales passives transitives ainsi qu’une sélection des formes verbales traitées comme des passifs lexicaux. Ces deux sélections sont extraites à partir du dictionnaire innu en ligne.
Innu is an Algonquian language spoken in Québec and Labrador by around 10 000 speakers. This thesis investigates the aspectual properties of the passive voice as well as the phenomenon of lexical passive, a subtype of passive that remains poorly documented in Algonquian languages. The case study carried out with this aim reveals that certain passive verbal forms in Innu can have either a dynamic or a stative/resultative semantics. This thesis explores forward the idea of considering stative/resultative forms as lexicalized passive forms in the language. Moreover, the study highlights a number of verbal forms related to passive and middle voice also found in other Algonquian languages. These forms are considered as lexical passives in this thesis. Appendices show the data of the case study study as well as a selection of passive sentences from the book Eukuan nin matshimanitu innu-iskueu (Kapesh, 1976). Appendices show also a selection of transitive passive verbal forms and a selection of verbal forms analyzed as lexical passives in this study. Those selection are all extracted from the Innu online dictionnary.

Abstract:
We present modeling and simulation of air void formation in composite materials manufactured by the Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) process. The prediction of air void formation has been an important topic because air voids in composite materials deteriorate the mechanical properties of the part. It has been found by experimental observations that the void content, for a specific preform, can be correlated with capillary number which is the ratio of the viscous force and the surface tension. It is still difficult, however, to predict the void formation without experimental measurement. Moreover, the capillary number may not be the exclusive parameter in practical cases, because the modeling by the capillary number does not work well for large and complex parts. In this context, we propose a mathematical model to predict the air void formation in the channel which is on open gap between fiber tows and inside the fiber tow. Moreover, the void formation in the warp and the weft are modeled separately by considering the tow orientation with respect to the flow direction. We also modeled two other important phenomena, namely air void compression or expansion, and void migration. To validate the model, void content was experimentally measured by injecting an electrically conductive liquid into a preform. The voltage drop was correlated with the air void content considering the air as a non-conducting material. For a unidirectional fabric, a good agreement was obtained between the model prediction and the experimental result.

The inversion of new compilations of aeromagnetic data and gravity data are employed to investigate the 3-D physical property (magnetic susceptibility and density) distribution within the Great Bear magmatic zone. The application of two different software suites (Geosoft VOXI and UBC GIF MAG3D and GRAV3D) affords a comparison of approaches and results. The magnetic susceptibility results are broadly compatible, but Geosoft VOXI enabled more detailed definition of shallow sources. The density results were markedly different in how the model responded to the low-resolution gravity data in characterization of the near-surface. GRAV3D extrapolated shallow sources to surface, whereas Geosoft VOXI smoothed and closed the top of shallow sources below surface. The different magnetic susceptibility and density models can be used to assess the physical property distribution and relationships across the region. One approach, applied here, is to combine the near-surface magnetic susceptibility and density results to identify zones of coincidently high physical properties, a common physical proper relationship associated with IOCG mineral deposits. These integrated models highlight many of the region's known mineral occurrences and reveal other zones for further analysis.

Despite the geographical distance, the war in Ukraine has brought to the fore links between the Russian establishment and Radical Right forces in Spain. Both scholars and pundits have taken an interest in the question, which spread to party competition, quickly turning into a (discursive) race away from Putin as the consequences of war become more evident. Despite the war’s unquestioned relevance and previous links between Russia and the Radical Right in Spain (albeit less established than in other European countries), a systematic analysis of the effects of the invasion is missing. This report addresses this gap by focusing on the impact of the Ukraine invasion on party discourse and public opinion in Spain. It analyses records of proceedings from the Spanish Parliament, Twitter messages posted by the VOX party and its leader, and survey data gathered since February 2022 by the Spanish Center for Sociological Research (CIS). The main findings at the party level highlight the relatively weak associations between the Kremlin and The Radical Right in Spain (compared to other European countries), as well as efforts to separate from Putin after the invasion started. A more complex pattern of preferences is identified at the individual level.

Abstract:
Cracking is a primary mode of failure for asphalt concrete (AC), resulting in road damage and deterioration, and leading to an increase in road hazards and fatalities. Studying the fracture behavior of AC is an effective way to learn how to best enhance their cracking resistance. To do this, the indirect tensile cracking laboratory test (IDEAL-CT) was developed and used to assess the AC cracking behavior by defining a unique index that allows the ranking of different mixes’ cracking resistance. The sensitivity of the test results to the test parameters is needed to monitor the test’s performance. Several parameters impact the result of the IDEAL-CT. This study focuses on the variation of air voids, loading rate, aggregate shape, bonding type, and gradation mix. Performing more than 450 test scenarios—varying multiple factors and conducting enough tests for each variation—would require considerable resources and time. To solve the issue, the Particle Flow Code in two-dimension software (PFC2D) using the discrete element method (DEM) is adapted to mitigate the need for actual laboratory tests. Initial findings yielded a better understanding of the micromechanical behavior of each mix, showing that air void content has more impact than loading rate; a decrease of 2% in air voids resulted in an increase of more than 50% in cracking resistance. Additionally, different aggregate sources and bonding strengths affected the cracking resistance. These results can inform further studies on AC cracking in order to reduce road damage and deterioration to keep roads safe.

Methods to quantify soil conditions of pore connectivity, tortuosity, and pore size as altered by compaction were done. Air-dry soil cores were scanned at the GeoSoilEnviroCARS sector at the Advanced Photon Source for x-ray computed microtomography of the Argonne facility. Data was collected on the APS bending magnet Sector 13. Soil sample cores 5- by 5-mm were studied. Skeletonization algorithms in the 3DMA-Rock software of Lindquist et al. were used to extract pore structure. We have numerically investigated the spatial distribution for 6 geometrical characteristics of the pore structure of repacked Hamra soil from three-dimensional synchrotron computed microtomography (CMT) computed tomographic images. We analyzed images representing cores volumes 58.3 mm³ having average porosities of 0.44, 0.35, and 0.33. Cores were packed with < 2mm and < 0.5mm sieved soil. The core samples were imaged at 9.61-mm resolution. Spatial distributions for pore path length and coordination number, pore throat size and nodal pore volume obtained. The spatial distributions were computed using a three-dimensional medial axis analysis of the void space in the image. We used a newly developed aggressive throat computation to find throat and pore partitioning for needed for higher porosity media such as soil. Results show that the coordination number distribution measured from the medial axis were reasonably fit by an exponential relation P(C)=10⁻C/C0. Data for the characteristic area, were also reasonably well fit by the relation P(A)=10⁻ᴬ/ᴬ0. Results indicates that compression preferentially affects the largest pores, reducing them in size. When compaction reduced porosity from 44% to 33%, the average pore volume reduced by 30%, and the average pore-throat area reduced by 26%. Compaction increased the shortest paths interface tortuosity by about 2%. Soil structure alterations induced by compaction using quantitative morphology show that the resolution is sufficient to discriminate soil cores. This study shows that analysis of CMT can provide information to assist in assessment of soil management to ameliorate soil compaction.
