ABSTRACT The sensitivity and angular resolution of photometric surveys executed by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) enable studies of individual star clusters in galaxies out to a few tens of megaparsecs. The fitting of spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of star clusters is essential for measuring their physical properties and studying their evolution. We report on the use of the publicly available Code Investigating GALaxy Emission (cigale) SED fitting package to derive ages, stellar masses, and reddenings for star clusters identified in the Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS–HST (PHANGS–HST) survey. Using samples of star clusters in the galaxy NGC 3351, we present results of benchmark analyses performed to validate the code and a comparison to SED fitting results from the Legacy Extragalactic Ultraviolet Survey. We consider procedures for the PHANGS–HST SED fitting pipeline, e.g. the choice of single stellar population models, the treatment of nebular emission and dust, and the use of fluxes versus magnitudes for the SED fitting. We report on the properties of clusters in NGC 3351 and find, on average, the clusters residing in the inner star-forming ring of NGC 3351 are young (<10 Myr) and massive (105 M⊙) while clusters in the stellar bulge are significantly older. Cluster mass function fits yield β values around −2, consistent with prior results with a tendency to be shallower at the youngest ages. Finally, we explore a Bayesian analysis with additional physically motivated priors for the distribution of ages and masses and analyse the resulting cluster distributions.

ABSTRACT We present and analyse SO and SO2, recently observed with high angular resolution and sensitivity in a spectral line survey with ALMA, for two oxygen-rich AGB stars: the low mass-loss rate R Dor and high mass-loss rate IK Tau. We analyse 8 lines of SO detected towards both stars, 78 lines of SO2 detected towards R Dor, and 52 lines of SO2 detected towards IK Tau. We detect several lines of 34SO, 33SO, and 34SO2 towards both stars, and tentatively S18O towards R Dor, and hence derive isotopic ratios for these species. The spatially resolved observations show us that the two sulphur oxides are co-located towards R Dor and trace out the same wind structures in the circumstellar envelope. Much of the emission is well reproduced with a Gaussian abundance distribution spatially centred on the star. Emission from the higher energy levels of SO and SO2 towards R Dor provides evidence in support of a rotating inner region of gas identified in earlier work. The new observations allow us to refine the abundance distribution of SO in IK Tau derived from prior observations with single antennas, and confirm that the distribution is shell like with the peak in the fractional abundance not centred on the star. The confirmation of different types of SO abundance distributions will help fine-tune chemical models and allows for an additional method to discriminate between low and high mass-loss rates for oxygen-rich AGB stars.

AbstractWe investigate the angular momentum distribution of known exoplanetary systems, as a function of the planetary mass, orbital semimajor axis and metallicity of the host star. We find exoplanets seems to be classified according to at least two ‘populations’, with respect to their angular momentum properties. This classification is independent on the composition of the planet and seems to be valid for both jovian and neptunian planets, and probably can be extrapolated to the terrestrial planets of the Solar System. We analyse these ‘populations’ considering the phenomenon of planetary migration.

The Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) of iridescent (or goniochromatic) surfaces may vary notably with both spectral and angular variables, and, therefore, finite spectral bandwidth and collection solid angles inherent to any measuring instrument introduce a deviation from the correct value. Experimental data of highly goniochromatic samples are used to analyse their impact on measurement uncertainty. The results indicate that it is advisable to standardize spectral and angular bandwidths because the systematic error is not negligible for typical measuring systems. The 95th percentile of the error distribution of the measurement of the BRDF due to these finite bandwidths, and also the 95th percentile of the calculated resulting color differences, are used as criteria to establish recommended values of spectral and angular bandwidths. The impact of the bandwidth is more critical in the measurement of the BRDF of diffraction-based than of interference-based coatings.

AbstractFission fragment angular distribution (FFAD) data would help obtain new insights into both the fission process and the mechanism of the projectile’s interaction with the nucleus. Recently, a structure has been reported in neutron-induced FFAD of even-even actinide nuclei near threshold. Statistical modelling is used in this article to analyse FFAD from neutron-induced fission of 238U and 232Th. The statistical variance K02 is obtained by fitting the measured fragment anisotropies with a theoretical model. Accurate analysis is performed to deduce the variance K02 of the K-distribution of the levels in the transition nucleus at neutron energies from threshold to 50 MeV. We show the method by which quantitative values of K02 can be obtained. The results not only present high-resolution data in these even-even nuclei but also show that for the 238U(n,f) reaction, the strength for the K-transition states comes mainly from the higher angular momenta, in agreement with the Nilsson model orbitals. We also study the periodic structure of anisotropy related to the set of (n,f) reactions in comparison with the related cross section performed with the TALYS code. The comparison of the variance with the cross section clearly illustrates the strong correlation between the value of the variance and the opening of a fission chance. We show that whenever the probability of reaction in a new channel and cross section increases, K02 decreases versus the incident neutron energy, so the minimum of K02 can show the maximum probability of the (n,f)xn reaction.

Abstract Imaging Luminance Measuring Device (ILMD) based luminous intensity distribution measurement systems are an established method for measuring the luminous intensity distribution (LID) of light sources in the far field. The advantage of this system is the high-resolution acquisition of a large angular range with one image. For the uncertainty budget, the mathematical description of the system can be divided into photometric and geometric contributions. In the following, we will present a Monte-Carlo approach to analyse the geometric contributions which are the uncertainty of measurement direction and measurement distance. Therefore, we set up a geometric system description based on kinematic transformations that describes the connection between detector and light source position. To consider all relevant input quantities we simulate the adjustment and measurement process. Finally, an analysis of the geometric input parameters is shown.

AbstractWe analyse the dark matter (DM) distribution in a ≈1012M⊙ halo extracted from a simulation consistent with the concordance cosmology, where the physics regulating the transformation of gas into stars was allowed to change producing galaxies with different morphologies. Although the DM profiles get more concentrated as baryons are collected at the centre of the haloes compared to a pure dynamical run, the total baryonic mass alone is not enough to fully predict the reaction of the DM profile. Our findings suggest that the response of the DM halo is driven by the history of assembly of baryons into a galaxy. The accretion of satellites could be associated with an expansion of the dark matter profiles, triggered by angular momentum transfer from the incoming satellites. However, we also found that these mechanism have different efficiencies which are set by the history of formation of the structure.

ABSTRACT The dwarf galaxy distribution surrounding M31 is significantly anisotropic in nature. Of the 30 dwarf galaxies in this distribution, 15 form a disc-like structure and 23 are contained within the hemisphere facing the Milky Way. Using a realistic local potential, we analyse the conditions required to produce and maintain these asymmetries. We find that some dwarf galaxies are required to have highly eccentric orbits in order to preserve the presence of the hemispherical asymmetry with an appropriately large radial dispersion. Under the assumption that the dwarf galaxies originate from a single association or accretion event, we find that the initial size and specific energy of that association must both be relatively large in order to produce the observed hemispherical asymmetry. However if the association was large in physical size, the very high-energy required would enable several dwarf galaxies to escape from the M31 and be captured by the Milky Way. Furthermore, we find that associations that result in this structure have total specific energies concentrated around $E = V_{\rm esc}^{2} - V_{\rm init}^{2} \sim 200^2$ – $300^2\ \rm {km^2\ s^{-2}}$, implying that the initial velocity and initial position needed to produce the structure are strongly correlated. The overlap of initial conditions required to produce the radial dispersion, angular dispersion, and the planar structure is small and suggests that either they did not originate from a single accretion event, or that these asymmetric structures are short-lived.

ABSTRACT We analyse the kinematics and spatial distribution of 15 599 fundamental-mode RR Lyrae (RRL) stars in the Milky Way bulge by combining OGLE-IV photometric data and Gaia DR2 proper motions. We show that the longitudinal proper motions and the line-of-sight velocities can give similar results for the rotation in the Galactic central regions. The angular velocity of bulge RRLs is found to be around 35 km s−1 kpc−1, significantly smaller than that for the majority of bulge stars (50–60 km s−1 kpc−1); bulge RRLs have larger velocity dispersion (120–140 km s−1) than younger stars. The dependence of the kinematics of the bulge RRLs on their metallicities is shown by their rotation curves and spatial distributions. Metal-poor RRLs ([Fe/H]<−1) show a smaller bar angle than metal-rich ones. We also find clues suggesting that RRLs in the bulge are not dominated by halo stars. These results might explain some previous conflicting results over bulge RRLs and help understand the chemodynamical evolution of the Galactic bulge.

AbstractStrongly turbulent Taylor–Couette flow with independently rotating inner and outer cylinders with a radius ratio of $\eta = 0. 716$ is experimentally studied. From global torque measurements, we analyse the dimensionless angular velocity flux ${\mathit{Nu}}_{\omega } (\mathit{Ta}, a)$ as a function of the Taylor number $\mathit{Ta}$ and the angular velocity ratio $a= \ensuremath{-} {\omega }_{o} / {\omega }_{i} $ in the large-Taylor-number regime $1{0}^{11} \lesssim \mathit{Ta}\lesssim 1{0}^{13} $ and well off the inviscid stability borders (Rayleigh lines) $a= \ensuremath{-} {\eta }^{2} $ for co-rotation and $a= \infty $ for counter-rotation. We analyse the data with the common power-law ansatz for the dimensionless angular velocity transport flux ${\mathit{Nu}}_{\omega } (\mathit{Ta}, a)= f(a)\hspace{0.167em} {\mathit{Ta}}^{\gamma } $, with an amplitude $f(a)$ and an exponent $\gamma $. The data are consistent with one effective exponent $\gamma = 0. 39\pm 0. 03$ for all $a$, but we discuss a possible $a$ dependence in the co- and weakly counter-rotating regimes. The amplitude of the angular velocity flux $f(a)\equiv {\mathit{Nu}}_{\omega } (\mathit{Ta}, a)/ {\mathit{Ta}}^{0. 39} $ is measured to be maximal at slight counter-rotation, namely at an angular velocity ratio of ${a}_{\mathit{opt}} = 0. 33\pm 0. 04$, i.e. along the line ${\omega }_{o} = \ensuremath{-} 0. 33{\omega }_{i} $. This value is theoretically interpreted as the result of a competition between the destabilizing inner cylinder rotation and the stabilizing but shear-enhancing outer cylinder counter-rotation. With the help of laser Doppler anemometry, we provide angular velocity profiles and in particular identify the radial position ${r}_{n} $ of the neutral line, defined by $ \mathop{ \langle \omega ({r}_{n} )\rangle } \nolimits _{t} = 0$ for fixed height $z$. For these large $\mathit{Ta}$ values, the ratio $a\approx 0. 40$, which is close to ${a}_{\mathit{opt}} = 0. 33$, is distinguished by a zero angular velocity gradient $\partial \omega / \partial r= 0$ in the bulk. While for moderate counter-rotation $\ensuremath{-} 0. 40{\omega }_{i} \lesssim {\omega }_{o} \lt 0$, the neutral line still remains close to the outer cylinder and the probability distribution function of the bulk angular velocity is observed to be monomodal. For stronger counter-rotation the neutral line is pushed inwards towards the inner cylinder; in this regime the probability distribution function of the bulk angular velocity becomes bimodal, reflecting intermittent bursts of turbulent structures beyond the neutral line into the outer flow domain, which otherwise is stabilized by the counter-rotating outer cylinder. Finally, a hypothesis is offered allowing a unifying view and consistent interpretation for all these various results.

Le but de ce travail est de déterminer par méthodes optiques la distribution de taille (pdf) des nanoparticules de suie, agrégats de morphologie fractale. Après des études préliminaires qui utilisent DDSCAT pour valider la théorie RDG-FA et permettent de convertir un rayon de giration en rayon de mobilité, deux diagnostics optiques sont étudiés. Le premier consiste à exploiter une mesure d'extinction spectrale de la lumière. Nous montrons que pour exploiter ce signal, il faut connaître les propriétés optiques des suies, leur préfacteur et dimension fractale, la loi de distribution et le diamètre des sphérules primaires. Le second diagnostic tire parti de la mesure angulaire de la diffusion de la lumière. Nous montrons qu'il est possible de déterminer la pdf à l'aide de la mesure de diffusion à trois angles. Il faut supposer la loi de distribution et la dimension fractale. Cette deuxième approche, in-situ, est plus appropriée que la première pour déterminer optiquement la pdf des suies.

Nous étudions la physique au-delà du Modèle Standard en analysant les distributions angulaires de différentes désintégrations de mésons B. La première désintégration que nous considérons est la désintégration semileptonique B_d → D* ৷ ν, où l est un lepton léger (e ou μ). L'arrivée des nouvelles données de QCD sur réseau nous permet d'extraire de nouveaux paramètres de physique, ce qui n'était pas possible avec uniquement les données expérimentales. Ainsi, nous réanalysons les données de Belle ainsi que les données de QCD sur réseau sur les facteurs de forme de B_d → D* pour ajuster simultanément les facteurs de forme, Vcb et le couplage de nouvelle physique de type droit, dont la sensibilité est estimée à ~ 3-5%. De plus, en générant un pseudo-ensemble non groupé, nous effectuons une étude de sensibilité sur des modèles de nouvelle physique plus généraux en utilisant les données de QCD sur réseau. Nous trouvons que les couplages de nouvelle physique de type droit et tensoriel sont contraints à ~ 2-4%, tandis que la sensibilité pour le cas pseudoscalaire est moins bonne (~20-30%). La deuxième désintégration que nous étudions est B_d → D* τ ν. Étant donné que le τ n'est pas détecté directement dans les expériences, nous écrivons d'abord une distribution angulaire mesurable en considérant la désintégration τ → μ ν ν. Comme il n'y a pas de données expérimentales disponibles pour cela, nous effectuons une étude de sensibilité en générant un pseudo-ensemble à partir des résultats d'ajustement de B_d → D* ৷ ν (৷ = e, μ) pour différents modèles de nouvelle physique. Même avec moins d'événements que dans le cas précédent des leptons légers, les sensibilités sont comparables. Enfin, nous passons aux désintégrations hadroniques de B et nous étudions l'analyse angulaire dépendante du temps de la désintégration B_s → φ φ pour rechercher des signaux de nouvelle physique via des observables violant la CP. En utilisant un Hamiltonien effectif contenant des opérateurs chromomagnétiques de type gauche et droit, nous trouvons que la hiérarchie des amplitudes d'hélicité dans ce modèle nous donne un nouveau schéma de recherche expérimentale, différent de celui utilisé par LHCb dans son analyse. Pour illustrer ce nouveau schéma, nous effectuons une étude de sensibilité en utilisant deux pseudo-ensembles générés à partir des valeurs mesurées par LHCb et obtenons une sensibilité des observables violant la CP de l'ordre de 5-7% avec les statistiques actuelles de LHCb. De plus, nous explorons également la relation entre les résultats de B_s → φ φ de LHCb et ceux de B_d → φ K_s de Belle (II), et montrons qu'ensemble, ils peuvent révéler la chiralité de la nouvelle physique dans notre modèle<br>We investigate the physics beyond the Standard Model by studying the angular distributions of different B meson decays. The first decay we consider is the semileptonic B_d → D* ৷ ν decay, where l is a light lepton (e or μ). The arrival of the new lattice QCD data allows us to extract new physics parameters, which was not possible with only the experimental data. Thus, we reanalyze the Belle data along with the lattice QCD data on B_d → D* form factors to simultaneously fit the form factors, Vcb and right-handed new physics coupling, whose sensitivity is found to be ~ 3-5%. In addition, by generating unbinned pseudo-dataset, we perform a sensitivity study on more general new physics models along with the lattice data. We find the right-handed and tensor new physics couplings to be constrained ~ 2-4%, while it is not so good for pseudoscalar case (~ 20-30%). The second decay we study is B_d → D* τ ν. Since τ is not detected directly in experiments, we first write a measurable angular distribution by considering the τ → μ ν ν decay. As there is no experimental data available for it, we perform a sensitivity study by generating a pseudo-dataset from fit results of B_d → D* ৷ ν (৷ = e, μ) for different new physics models. Even with lesser events than the previous light lepton case, the sensitivities are comparable. Finally, we move on to hadronic B decays, and investigate the time-dependent angular analysis of B_s → φ φ decay to search for new physics signals via CP-violating observables. Using an effective Hamiltonian containing left- and right-handed Chromomagnetic operators, we find that the hierarchy of helicity amplitudes in this model gives us a new scheme of experimental search, which is different from the one LHCb has performed in its analysis. To illustrate this new scheme, we perform a sensitivity study using two pseudo-datasets generated using LHCb's measured values and obtain sensitivity of CP-violating observables to be of the order of 5-7% with the current LHCb statistics. Moreover, we also explore the relationship between LHCb's B_s → φ φ and Belle (II)'s B_d → φ K_s results, and show that together, they can give us the chirality of new physics within our model

En statistique directionnelle, on utilise trois types de régression : des modèles angle-linéaire, linéaire-angle et angle-angle, selon la nature des données. Ainsi, si la variable explicative et la variable réponse sont des angles, la régression angle-angle permet d’expliquer la relation entre ces variables. Plusieurs modèles de régression ont été développés en statistique directionnelle. Trois d’entre eux font l’objet de ce mémoire : le prédicteur décentré de Rivest (1997), le modèle de Möbius de Downs &amp; Mardia (2002) et la régression non paramétrique de Di Marzio et al. (2012). Des méthodes d’estimation sont mises de l’avant pour les paramètres de chacun de ces modèles. On compare les modèles entre eux à l’aide de simulations et d’exemples utilisant des données réelles.<br>For the analysis of directional data, there are three types of regression models: angular-linear, linear-angular and angular-angular. The type of regression depends on the nature of the data. Hence, if the explanatory variable and the response variable are angles, the angular-angular regression model can explain the relationship between these variables. Several models have been developed for this purpose and in this paper, three of these directional models are discussed: the decentred predictor of Rivest (1997), the Mobius model Downs &amp; Mardia (2002) and the nonparametric regression of Di Marzio et al. (2012). Estimation procedures are highlighted for the parameters of each of these models. We compare the models together with simulations and examples using real data.

Le but de cette these est d'etudier comment les travaux de s. Mallat et d'y. Meyer pouvaient s'integrer en imagerie interferometrique. Dans un premier temps, les problemes lies a la reconstruction d'images a haute resolution angulaire par voie interferometrique dans le visible ont ete analyses (realisation d'un simulateur de donnees interferometriques et implementation d'algorithmes de reconstruction d'images). Ensuite, un nouvel algorithme de transformation en ondelettes reposant sur des fonctions a frequence de coupure completement isotropes a ete developpe. Cet algorithme permet d'associer a une image une structure pyramidale. Differentes applications ont ensuite ete deduites de cette pyramide (filtrage, critere qualite, deconvolution). La derniere etape etait donc de faire le lien entre l'analyse en ondelettes et la deconvolution de donnees interferometriques. Ceci s'est fait en etudiant d'abord le probleme de la deconvolution d'une maniere generale dans l'espace des ondelettes. Dans un deuxieme temps, une methode de deconvolution pour la synthese d'ouverture a ete deduite en generalisant dans l'espace des ondelettes la methode de wakker (multiresolution clean) et en introduisant des contraintes de regularisation. Une collaboration avec l'equipe soir d'ete de j. Gay a permis de reconstruire les etoiles a enveloppe hen 26,5+0,6 et oh 26,5+0,6 dont les donnees ont ete obtenues par speckle interferometrie dans le proche infrarouge

Dans cette thèse de doctorat, nous nous intéressons à la dynamique des processus induits par l'excitation résonante ou l'ionisation directe en couche interne à travers une étude expérimentale de systèmes modèles, l'atome d’argon et la molécule de sulfure de carbonyle OCS. Afin de réaliser des mesures sur des systèmes isolés, nous avons développé une nouvelle expérience, CELIMENE, dans laquelle des espèces en phase gazeuse très diluée sont ionisées par interaction avec un rayonnement synchrotron. Lors de l'ionisation de l'atome Ar en couche 1s, nous avons mesuré le recul de l'ion Arn+ causé par l'émission d'électrons Auger ce qui a permis de déterminer le processus de relaxation majoritaire pour chaque état de charge et de déduire le taux d'émission radiative lors d'une seule mesure. Nous avons mesuré l'effet post collisionnel entre l'ion Arq+ (q=1-5) et le photoélectron en coïncidence, ce qui nous a permis de déduire la durée de vie des niveaux intermédiaires. Lors de l'ionisation de OCS en couche S 1s, la mesure de recul du centre de masse est utilisée afin de déterminer la voie dominante dans le processus de relaxation ce qui nous a permis d’estimer la durée de vie des états intermédiaires dans un système moléculaire. Une comparaison entre les mesures expérimentales des MFPADs et des calculs théoriques a été faite pour la première fois dans le domaine des X-tendres, pour la photoionisation en couche 1s de l'atome de soufre. Finalement la mesure des moments appliquée au système OCS combinée à une simulation de l'explosion coulombienne de la molécule a permis d'étudier finement la cinématique de O++C++S+<br>In this PhD thesis, we study dynamical processes induced by resonant excitation or direct ionization in deep K shell through experimental measurement realized on model systems, the argon atom and the carbonyl sulfide molecule, OCS. We developed a new experimental setup, CELIMENE dedicated to coincidence measurement of charged fragments created after interaction between free atoms/molecules and synchrotron radiation. On Argon ionized at the K shell, the ion recoil of Ar n+ due to Auger electrons emission is measured for each ionic state and is used to disentangle relaxation pathways and the radiative decay rate in one measurement. This measurement performed in coincidence with the photoelectron is then used to estimate the lifetime of the intermediate state. For the OCS molecule ionized at the S1s shell, we used molecular mass center recoil to determine the main relaxation pathways for each fragmentation channel and measurement of the PCI effect on the photoelectron allowed a determination of the lifetime of the intermediate states in a molecular system. The comparison of the experimental and theoretical MFPADs has been done for the first time in the tender x-ray region for the OCS molecule ionized above S1s threshold. Finally, measurements of the momentum of the O+ C+ S+ fragments combined with a Coulomb explosion simulation allowed us to carefully study the dynamics the molecular three body fragmentation

La gestion d'un desequilibre specifique inherent au passage de la quadrupedie a la bipedie lors du depart de sprint est analyse par dynamographie (kistler), dans sa phase initiale de contact avec les starting blocks, et par cinematographie en 2d, dans sa phase de mise en action concernant les premieres poses d'appuis. L'analyse du desequilibre en translation et en rotation font etat de la fluidite ou de l'incoordination refletant la qualite de la performance. Un sujet expert et un enfant neophyte, passes au crible de nos analyses, ont, sans equivoque, credite la position de depart identifiee par des blocks rapproches associee a une centration visuelle particuliere

Ce travail de thèse porte sur la reconstruction et la description des fonctions de distribution d'orientation (ODF) en imagerie de diffusion à haute résolution angulaire (HARDI) telle que l’imagerie par q-ball (QBI). Dans ce domaine, la fonction de distribution d’orientation (ODF) en QBI est largement utilisée pour étudier le problème de configuration complexe des fibres. Toutefois, jusqu’à présent, l’évaluation des caractéristiques ou de la qualité des ODFs reste essentiellement visuelle et qualitative, bien que l’utilisation de quelques mesures objectives de qualité ait également été reportée dans la littérature, qui sont directement empruntées de la théorie classique de traitement du signal et de l’image. En même temps, l’utilisation appropriée de ces mesures pour la classification des configurations des fibres reste toujours un problème. D'autre part, le QBI a souvent besoin d'un nombre important d’acquisitions pour calculer avec précision les ODFs. Ainsi, la réduction du temps d’acquisition des données QBI est un véritable défi. Dans ce contexte, nous avons abordé les problèmes de comment reconstruire des ODFs de haute qualité et évaluer leurs caractéristiques. Nous avons proposé un nouveau paradigme permettant de décrire les caractéristiques des ODFs de manière plus quantitative. Il consiste à regarder un ODF comme un nuage général de points tridimensionnels (3D), projeter ce nuage de points 3D sur un plan angle-distance (ADM), construire une matrice angle-distance (ADMAT), et calculer des caractéristiques morphologiques de l'ODF telles que le rapport de longueurs, la séparabilité et l'incertitude. En particulier, une nouvelle métrique, appelé PEAM (PEAnut Metric) et qui est basée sur le calcul de l'écart des ODFs par rapport à l’ODF (représenté par une forme arachide) d’une seule fibre, a été proposée et utilisée pour classifier des configurations intravoxel des fibres. Plusieurs méthodes de reconstruction des ODFs ont également été comparées en utilisant les paramètres proposés. Les résultats ont montré que les caractéristiques du nuage de points 3D peuvent être évaluées d'une manière relativement complète et quantitative. En ce qui concerne la reconstruction de l'ODF de haute qualité avec des données réduites, nous avons proposé deux méthodes. La première est basée sur une interpolation par triangulation de Delaunay et sur des contraintes imposées à la fois dans l’espace-q et dans l'espace spatial. La deuxième méthode combine l’échantillonnage aléatoire des directions de gradient de diffusion, le compressed sensing, l’augmentation de la densité de ré-échantillonnage, et la reconstruction des signaux de diffusion manquants. Les résultats ont montré que les approches de reconstruction des signaux de diffusion manquants proposées nous permettent d'obtenir des ODFs précis à partir d’un nombre relativement faible de signaux de diffusion<br>This thesis concerns the reconstruction and description of orientation distribution functions (ODFs) in high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI) such as q-ball imaging (QBI). QBI is used to analyze more accurately fiber structures (crossing, bending, fanning, etc.) in a voxel. In this field, the ODF reconstructed from QBI is widely used for resolving complex intravoxel fiber configuration problem. However, until now, the assessment of the characteristics or quality of ODFs remains mainly visual and qualitative, although the use of a few objective quality metrics is also reported that are directly borrowed from classical signal and image processing theory. At the same time, although some metrics such as generalized anisotropy (GA) and generalized fractional anisotropy (GFA) have been proposed for classifying intravoxel fiber configurations, the classification of the latters is still a problem. On the other hand, QBI often needs an important number of acquisitions (usually more than 60 directions) to compute accurately ODFs. So, reducing the quantity of QBI data (i.e. shortening acquisition time) while maintaining ODF quality is a real challenge. In this context, we have addressed the problems of how to reconstruct high-quality ODFs and assess their characteristics. We have proposed a new paradigm allowing describing the characteristics of ODFs more quantitatively. It consists of regarding an ODF as a general three-dimensional (3D) point cloud, projecting a 3D point cloud onto an angle-distance map (ADM), constructing an angle-distance matrix (ADMAT), and calculating morphological characteristics of the ODF such as length ratio, separability and uncertainty. In particular, a new metric, called PEAM (PEAnut Metric), which is based on computing the deviation of ODFs from a single fiber ODF represented by a peanut, was proposed and used to classify intravoxel fiber configurations. Several ODF reconstruction methods have also been compared using the proposed metrics. The results showed that the characteristics of 3D point clouds can be well assessed in a relatively complete and quantitative manner. Concerning the reconstruction of high-quality ODFs with reduced data, we have proposed two methods. The first method is based on interpolation by Delaunay triangulation and imposing constraints in both q-space and spatial space. The second method combines random gradient diffusion direction sampling, compressed sensing, resampling density increasing, and missing diffusion signal recovering. The results showed that the proposed missing diffusion signal recovering approaches enable us to obtain accurate ODFs with relatively fewer number of diffusion signals

Les travaux exposés portent sur les techniques d'imagerie optique à haute résolution et plus particulièrement sur les méthodes, dites d'inversion, de traitement des données associées à ces techniques. Ils se situent donc à la croisée des chemins entre l'imagerie optique et le traitement du signal et des images. Ces travaux sont appliqués à l'astronomie depuis le sol ou l'espace, l'observation de la Terre, et l'imagerie de la rétine. Une partie introductive est dédiée au rappel de caractéristiques importantes de l'inversion de données et d'éléments essentiels sur la formation d'image (diffraction, turbulence, techniques d'imagerie) et sur la mesure des aberrations (analyse de front d'onde). La première partie des travaux exposés porte sur l'étalonnage d'instrument, c'est-à-dire l'estimation d'aberrations instrumentales ou turbulentes. Ils concernent essentiellement la technique de diversité de phase : travaux méthodologiques, travaux algorithmiques, et extensions à l'imagerie à haute dynamique en vue de la détection et la caractérisation d'exoplanètes. Ces travaux comprennent également des développements qui n'utilisent qu'une seule image au voisinage du plan focal, dans des cas particuliers présentant un intérêt pratique avéré. La seconde partie des travaux porte sur le développement de méthodes de traitement (recalage, restauration et reconstruction, détection) pour l'imagerie à haute résolution. Ces développements ont été menés pour des modalités d'imagerie très diverses : imagerie corrigée ou non par optique adaptative (OA), mono-télescope ou interférométrique, pour l'observation de l'espace ; imagerie coronographique d'exoplanètes par OA depuis le sol ou par interférométrie depuis l'espace ; et imagerie 2D ou 3D de la rétine humaine. Enfin, une dernière partie présente des perspectives de recherches.

The availability of a firm-level database that is representative of the productive sector of an economy on an aggregate scale is increasingly important to analyse the heterogeneity of different economic variables at different levels of aggregation (for instance, by region, firm size or sector). This paper seeks, first, to evaluate the representativeness of the Banco de España’s Integrated Central Balance Sheet Database (Integrated CBSO database or CBI by its Spanish initials) for conducting regional analysis with firm-level data and, second, to analyse the differences in firm size distribution between the Spanish regions.

Cette étude porte sur une des innovations contemporaines liées à l’économie de la publication scientifique : les accords dits transformants, un objet relativement circonscrit au sein des relations entre consortiums de bibliothèques et éditeurs scientifiques, et temporellement situé entre 2015 et 2020. Ce type d’accords a pour objectif affiché d’organiser la transition du modèle traditionnel de l’abonnement à des revues (souvent proposées par regroupements thématiques ou collections) vers celui de l’accès ouvert en opérant une réaffectation des budgets qui y sont consacrés. Notre travail d’analyse sociologique constitue une première étude systématique de cet objet, fondée sur la recension de 197 accords. Le corpus ainsi constitué inclut des accords caractérisés par la coprésence d’une composante d’abonnement et d’une composante de publication en accès ouvert, même minimale (« jetons » de publication offerts, réduction sur les APC...). En conséquence, ont été exclus de l’analyse les accords portant uniquement sur du financement centralisé de publication en accès ouvert, que ce soit avec des éditeurs ne proposant que des revues avec paiement par l’auteur (PLOS, Frontiers, MDPI...) ou des éditeurs dont une partie du catalogue est constitué de revues en accès ouvert. L’accord le plus ancien de notre corpus a été signé en 2010, les plus récents en 2020 – les accords ne commençant qu’en 2021, même annoncés au cours de l’étude, n’ont pas été retenus. Plusieurs résultats se dégagent de notre analyse. Tout d’abord, on note une grande diversité des acteurs impliqués avec 22 pays et 39 éditeurs, même si certains consortiums (Pays-Bas, Suède, Autriche, Allemagne) et éditeurs (CUP, Elsevier, RSC, Springer) en ont signé beaucoup plus que d’autres. Ensuite, la durée des accords, comprise entre une et six années, révèle une distribution très inégalitaire, avec plus de la moitié des accords (103) signés pour 3 ans, ainsi qu’une faible proportion pour 4 ans ou plus (22 accords). Enfin, en dépit d’appels répétés à la transparence, moins de la moitié des accords (96) ont un texte accessible au moment de cette étude, sans qu’on puisse observer une tendance récente à une plus grande disponibilité. L’analyse montre également des degrés d’ouverture très variables, allant d’une simple information sur le répertoire ESAC en passant par la mise à disposition d’un format annotable jusqu’à l’attribution d’un DOI et d’une licence de réutilisation (CC-BY), en incluant le détail des sommes monétaires. Parmi les 96 accords disponibles, dont 47 signés en 2020, 62 ont fait l’objet d’une analyse en profondeur. It is generally accepted that institutions are important for economic development. In this work, we analyse how the quality of regional institutions impacts performance of Italian electricity distribution utilities and show that utilities in regions with better government effectiveness, responsiveness towards citizens, control of corruption, and rule of law, also tend to be more cost efficient. The results suggest that national regulators should take regional institutional diversity into account in incentive regulation and efficiency benchmarking of utilities.

Recent empirical evidence has indicated that Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) do not have an aggregate effect on adult labour supply, however little attention has been paid to the role of other intrahousehold dynamics. This paper examines how the bargaining power structure of households affects the parental labour supply response to CCT programmes. We analyse randomized experimental designs from rural areas of Honduras (PRAF), Mexico (PROGRESA), and Nicaragua (RPS), and find that CCT programmes slightly change paternal and maternal labour supply and that this effect depends on the distribution of power in the household.

In this Special Article we analyse the distributional impact of Budget 2024. Similar to last year, many reforms in this budget were temporary measures specifically aimed at combatting cost of living pressures. Compared to a baseline pegged to wage growth, we estimate that Budget 2024 will leave households across the income distribution better off, by 2.1 per cent of disposable income on average. The lowest income quintile of households experience the largest relative gain (5-6 per cent of disposable income) but the lowest cash gain (€13-€17 per week). Much of the income gain is driven by temporary measures, although there are above-wage-growth increases to many permanent parameters of the tax-benefit system too. We show that from 2020 to 2024, permanent changes to the tax and welfare system have resulted in small average income losses (-0.5 per cent of disposable income) compared to policy changes pegged to wage growth. We suggest that policymakers should move away from the use of temporary measures to compensate households for rising prices and should consider the adequacy of welfare payments to provide an appropriate standard of living at current market prices.

In economic simulation, results often hinge crucially on values of key exogenous inputs (the values of the parameters of the model and the shocks applied). Computational burden has, in the past, hindered systematic investigation of the impacts of variations in these key exogenous inputs. In this document, practical methods for conducting systematic sensitivity analysis for any model implemented using the GEMPACK suite of software are documented. The procedures described here are based on GTAP Technical Paper number 2 which sets out the theory behind the Gaussian quadrature methods on which the automated procedure is based. The procedures allow modellers to obtain estimates of the means and standard deviations of any endogenous variables of their model. The model only needs to be solved a relatively modest number of times (usually only 2N times if N exogenous inputs are varying); this is considerably fewer than the number of solves required by Monte Carlo methods. The procedure documented here fully automates solving the model as often as is necessary; once the user sets it up and starts it running, no further intervention is required. The document spells out the assumptions which must be made about the distribution of the exogenous inputs for the methods described to be valid. Five examples of systematic sensitivity computations are presented and the accompanying software allows modellers to work through these examples while reading the document. This should leave readers fully prepared to analyse the sensitivity of results for any model implemented in GEMPACK.

Background and Objectives- Symptomatic Primary Hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is common in India in comparison to the western population. But there is very little data on the inuence of age on the presentation of PHPT. In the present study we aimed to analyse the clinical and metabolic prole among different age groups of symptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism. Methods: This retrospective analysis was done in PHPT patients who attended Department of Endocrinology, Gauhati Medical college and Hospital. Thirty-one PHPT subjects who presented to us over a period of last ve years were divided into three different age groups i.e, children and adolescents &lt;18yrs, adults ≥18-50 years, and older group &gt;50years. All major clinical, metabolic and imaging parameters were compared among these groups. Appropriate statistical methods were used to compare different variables. The age distribution ranged from 13 to Results: 72 years with mean age of 38.6±16.3years and with equal female to male ratio. Bony deformity (Rickets) as initial manifestation was seen in three adolescents and bone pain was common in adolescents(p=0.05). Prevalence of renal stones were higher in adult group(p=0.002), gastrointestinal manifestations were higher in older group (p=0.02). There was no signicant difference in fracture rate(P=0.17), brown tumours(P=0.56) and other symptoms among different age groups. Alkaline phosphatase(p=0.006) and iPTH(p=0.01) were signicantly higher in adolescent group. There was no signicant difference in serum calcium, phosphate, 25(OH)Vitamin-D3 and haemoglobin levels among different age groups. Age has substantial inuence on PHPT presentation. Bone Interpretation &amp; Conclusion: pain and deformity was common in adolescents, while renal stones and gastrointestinal manifestations were common in middle aged and elderly group respectively

Science is called upon in times of significant change and uncertainty to respond to global challenges and opportunities. Novel approaches are needed to connect science with policy targets so that we can dedicate some of the scientific knowledge that we’ve accumulated over the course of human history on being able to save the world—while we still have a world left to save. Converging crises of hunger, climate, and political unrest remind us there is no time to waste. The impacts of climate change are increasingly evident worldwide, particularly affecting farmers and rural communities in regions that already struggle with poverty, hunger, and access and affordability of nutritious diets. Governments, funders, and public and private sectors are investing significant energy and resources to promote and identify evidence-based solutions across agrifood systems. A proliferation of research published over the past 15 years encourages agrifood systems to contribute towards a broader set of outcomes beyond productivity, and embrace nutrition, women’s empowerment, environmental sustainability, resilience, and inclusion. There is a profound sense of urgency for all actors, and especially global institutions, to innovate and adapt in response to an ambitious set of targets while paying attention to potential trade-offs and unintended consequences that come with integrating multiple objectives simultaneously. ‘The State of the Field for Research on Agrifood Systems’ uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse global research distribution from the past 13 years. This report provides a macro-level review of more than six million summaries of scientific papers and reports. It offers a snapshot across agrifood systems research, highlighting where progress has occurred, and where significant gaps remain. The findings of the report are presented in separate sections to facilitate navigation, but we encourage readers to explore the connections more holistically. Artificial intelligence offers a powerful set of innovative technologies, including generative AI. Generative AI optimizes knowledge and data to identify patterns and, where appropriate, combines data from diverse sources to generate new insights. In an increasingly interconnected science and policy landscape, it is crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of how past and future research contributes to broader goals.

Kinder und Jugendliche beschäftigen sich gerne mit audiovisuellen, auditiven und interaktiven Medien. Das Buch gerät im Mediengeflecht zunehmend in den Hintergrund. Um für die junge Zielgruppe attraktiv zu sein, setzen Verlage auf Bücher, die Themen, Geschichten und Darstellungsweisen aus anderen Medien aufgreifen. Dazu gehören auch die sogenannten Medienbegleitbücher, die in Bezug zu einem Film, einer Serie, einem Hörspiel oder einem digitalen Spiel stehen. Diese Bücher ermöglichen Kindern aufgrund der bereits bekannten Geschichten, Charaktere und Dialoge einen erleichterten Zugang zu Literatur und locken mit besonderen Gratifikationen, die vorlagenfreie Bücher nicht zu bieten haben. Daher sind sie als Lesestoffe auch für die Leseförderung interessant. Diese Arbeit untersucht daher, welche Stellung Medienbegleitbücher im Kinder- und Jugendbuchmarkt sowie in der Leseförderung haben. Im ersten Teil liegt der Fokus auf der Produktion und Distribution von Begleitbüchern. Mithilfe einer Recherche im Katalog der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek wurden das Marktangebot erarbeitet und Rückschlüsse auf die Entwicklung des Genres gezogen. Jahresbestsellerlisten des Buchreport geben einen Eindruck vom Verkauf der Bücher. Forschungsliteratur zum Thema Lizenzen und Kommunikationspolitik in Verlagen ergänzt den Marktüberblick durch die Perspektive von Handel und Herstellung. Im folgenden Kapitel werden unter Zuhilfenahme von Forschungsliteratur und Studien die Potenziale der Begleitbücher geschildert. Rezensionen und Bewertungen zu Medienbegleitbüchern auf LovelyBooks und Amazon geben Aufschluss über die Einstellung der Leser*innen und Beiträge in Zeitschriften der Kinder- und Jugendliteratur zeigen die Meinung der Vermittler*innen zu Begleitbüchern. Der letzte Abschnitt der Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Einsatz der Medienbegleitbücher in der Leseförderung. Stellvertretend für Angebote in der Familie und in Kindertagesstätten wurde die Arbeit der Stiftung Lesen Mainz betrachtet. Eine Analyse der Angebote und ein Experten-Interview geben nähere Einblicke in die Einbindung von Medienbegleitbüchern. Die Didaktik-Forschung gibt Auskunft über die Integration von Medienbegleitbüchern und Medienverbünden in den Unterricht. Im Bereich der außerschulischen Leseförderung wurde der Einsatz von Medienbegleitbüchern in den Lesestunden von Mentor e.V. Mainz mit einer Online-Umfrage unter den Mentor*innen untersucht. Der Katalog der Anna Seghers Bücherei Mainz zeigt das Angebot an Medienbegleitbüchern in Büchereien auf. Der Instagram-Account der Bücherei lässt Rückschlüsse über den Einsatz von Begleitbüchern in Aktionen zu. Zusammenfassend konnte festgehalten werden, dass Medienbegleitbücher ein wichtiges Segment des Kinder- und Jugendbuchmarktes darstellen, hohe Umsätze generieren können und für den Handel von Bedeutung sind. Aufgrund des vielfältigen Angebots und der verschiedenen Vertriebswege können viele Zielgruppen angesprochen und erreicht sowie Barrieren zum Medium Buch abgebaut werden. Obwohl die Erfahrungen von Familienangehörigen und Mentor*innen belegen, dass sich Begleitbücher positiv auf die Lesemotivation und das Leseverhalten von Kindern und Jugendlichen auswirken können, werden sie in der Leseförderung bislang eher am Rande berücksichtigt. Sie werden zwar empfohlen, aber Konzepte für und Evaluationen von Projekten fehlen. Die Potenziale der Medienbegleitbücher und ihrer Medienverbünde werden daher nicht ausgeschöpft. Medienbegleitbücher sollten zunehmend in den Fokus gerückt und als Chance wahrgenommen werden, Heranwachsende für Bücher zu begeistern und ihre Lesefreude zu wecken.

This document describes the Italian situation of young people aged between 15 and 34 years who do not work, do not study and are not in training (NEET), from 2009 to 2019. The report analyses the following indicators of the youth population: employment; unem-ployment; education; and, distribution of NEETs. The criteria adopted to analyse data are mainly the degree of urbanisation, the age group and, where possible, gender. The statistical procedure adopted for the different dimensions selected is descriptive lon-gitudinal analysis and calculation of absolute and relative proportional changes between 2009 and 2013, 2013 and 2019 and between 2009 and 2019. These time intervals have been chosen to capture the evolution of the indicators before and after the economic cri-sis that hit European countries. All data has been extracted from Eurostat public data sets. The data analysed shows how the Italian population decreased slightly between 2009 and 2019. However, what clearly changed is the distribution: increased in rural areas and decreased in cities. Youth unemployment grew strongly from 2009 to 2014, until finally decreasing from 2014 to 2019. Between 2009 and 2019, the Italian population aged from 15 to 24 years old has become more educated. The number of young people who drop out of school early decreased sharply, although rural areas remain the ones with the highest rates thereof. Finally, the NEET rate is one of the highest in the EU and has increased overall from 2009 to 2019. The peak was reached in 2014 and then the share decreased until 2019. Rural areas have the highest rate, although with a very small difference compared to the rate of cities and the national average.
