Full textThe objective of this thesis in discourse analysis is a critical and comparative analysis of discourses about breastfeeding in two different ethnolinguistic communities: France and Germany. The original research question is: is the option of breastfeeding a real choice or do women follow the path lined up by authors ? We gathered a corpus composed of institutional booklets and parent's manuals. In our research, we have considered how the authors of these guides and booklets are positioning themselves in their discourses and the arguments put forward to convince women to breastfeed. The study of milk and breastfeeding characterizations in our corpus of French and German texts has allowed us to show that these authors leave little opportunity to choosing breastfeeding, even if this lack of choice is translated in a different way in the two ethnolinguistic communities studied

Full textFrom a corpus whose particularly worked out transcript is enclosed, this study upholds the thesis that if french and german news are se different and it's almost unthinkable to transpose a model from a country to the other, it's because their ennunciative marks, whether linguistic or semiotic, belong to two radically constrasting ways of doing things. After defining its fields in the various theories of communication, semiotics and linguistics, this research - which therefore isn't an analysis of contein but an analysis of marks, pictures and language - examines the deixis (i, here, now) of the tv message. In france the text as well as the picture are utterly funneled through the annoncer's personnal point of view whereas their german colleagues are as little committed as possible. It's probably the consequence of the strict discrimination between news and commentary prevailing in germany ever since 1945. To conclude with, one can assert that the german tv news are of a referential type whereas french tv news are more like a phatic model

Full textThe thesis proposes a reflection on the possibilities and limits of the translation of reported speech in both German and French. The postulate of this study is the complementarity between contrastive linguistics and translation study. In the first part, the operational concepts are ascertained : we describe the enunciative modalities of reported speech - thereby raising the issue of its delimitation - and we present the different, yet here convergent, methodological principles that surround contrastive linguistics and translation. The second part focuses on the confrontation from the reported speech systems. The third part consists of a translation analysis and is based on a corpus of literary texts and press. The analysis sheds light on the importance of speech levels, the impact of the type of speech, and reveals new aspects about the translation of free indirect forms of speech representation

Full textFrame semantics and argumentation analysis are among the most popular research methodologies in discourse linguistics. Over the course of the last few years, semantic frames and argumentative topoi have been used in numerous studies to analyse the lexical and argumentative dimension of discourse. However, their simple addition contradicts one of the most basic premises of frame semantics, namely, the idea that frames are not only a tool of semantic analysis but also the universal format of conceptual representation structuring our know ledge of and our interactions with the world that surrounds us. Semantic frames, thus, potentially allow for a description of all knowledge structures underlying discourse at different levels of abstraction. By integrating the concept of argumentative relations in the established methodology of frame analysis, these different dimensions of discursive meaning construction become describable in frame semantic terms. These argumentative relations between discourse elements at the text surface can be seen as mirroring equivalent relations between the constituent elements of cognitive frames at the conceptual level. This approach will be used in the empirical section to analyse the parliamentary discourse on nuclear energy in the French Assemblée nationale and the German Bundestag from 1946 to 2012

Full textThis research aims to deepen present-day scientific knowledge about politicians’ communication on Twitter in different national contexts. Namely, it proposes a new angle of analysis through the notion of semiosphere. The PhD examines components of political discourse on Twitter, by means of Lotman’s theory of the semiosphere, particularly their structure as a coherent semiotic space created around an “event” on a digital platform. This analysis deals with the questions of modelling, representing and interpreting of an “event” within the discourses put in different cultural contexts. The PhD is based on the quantitative but especially qualitative analysis of different language-based corpora (French, British, German, Russian). The research mobilises a variety of theoretical approaches, in order to set up a contrastive as well as comprehensive approach to the analysis of political communication on Twitter

Full textBased on the hypothesis that textual and discursive modes of organisation vary from one language community to another (in our case French and Japanese groups), the empirical aspect of this dissertation will describe and analyse a corpus of argumentative writings by French and Japanese students produced either in the target language (L2) or in their native tongue (L1). The analytical tools allowing to illustrate the overall articulation of the argumentative text emanate from interdisciplinary remarks and feedback during and after the writing of the theoretical part of the present dissertation. Nine disciplinary fields of reference, in particular textual linguistics, intercultural pragmatics and contrastive rhetoric led to the choice of seven identifiable features of the argumentative text. Thus the study proposes an analytical grid and a stratified analytical frame which provide a possible descriptive tool and framework for illustrating and observing textual and discursive articulations through the means of superposition. Differences and similarities were determined in the domains of "nationality", "language used" or "status of the L2/L1 language produced". Using these results as well as those obtained in previous studies, several didactic proposals are presented at the end of the dissertation, based on the comparative approach. These proposals invite both groups of foreign-language learners to discover other textual and discursive modes that are different from those of their native language
