Abstract:
In this paper, a novel link recover scheme is proposed for standalone (SA) millimeter wave communications. Once the main beam between the base station (BS) and the mobile station (MS) is blocked, then a bundle-beam is radiated that covers the spatial direction of the blocked beam. These beams are generated from an analog beamformer design that is composed of parallel adjacent antenna arrays to radiate multiple simultaneous beams, thus creating an analog beamformer of multiple beams. The proposed recovery scheme features instantaneous recovery times, without the need for beam scanning to search for alternative beam directions. Hence, the scheme features reduced recovery times and latencies, as opposed to existing methods.

Abstract: In MIMO millimeter-wave (mmWave) systems, while the hybrid digital/analog precoding structure provides the ability to increase the reach rate, it also faces the challenge of reducing the channel time limit due to the large number of horns on both sides of the Tx / Rx. . In this paper, channel measurement is done by searching with multiple beams, and a new hierarchical multi-beam search system is proposed, using a pre-designed analog codebook. Performance tests show that, compared to a highperformance system, the proposed system not only achieves a high level of success in getting multiple beams under normal system settings but also significantly reduces channel estimation time Keywords: Massive MIMO, Channel Estimation, precoding

Abstract:
The millimeter-wave frequencies planned for 6G systems present challenges for channel modeling. At these frequencies, surface roughness affects wave propagation and causes severe attenuation of millimeter-wave (mmWave) signals. In general, beamforming techniques compensate for this problem. Analog beamforming has some major advantages over its counterpart, digital beamforming, because it uses low-cost phase shifters for massive MIMO systems compared to digital beamforming that provides more accurate and faster results in determining user signals. However, digital beamforming suffers from high complexity and expensive design, making it unsuitable for mmWave systems. The techniques proposed so far for analog beamforming are often challenging in practice. In this work, we have proposed a deep learning model for analog beams training that helps predict the optimal beam vector. Our model uses an available dataset of 18 base stations, over 1 million users, 60 GHz frequency. The training process first applies a stacked autoencoder to extract the features from the training datasets, and then uses a multilayer perceptron (MLP) to train and predict the optimal beams. Then, the results are evaluated by computing the mean squared error between the expected and predicted beams using the test set. The results show high efficiency compared to the benchmark method, which uses only the MLP for the training process.

The dynamic displacement ductility and ultimate load-carrying capability of three partially prestressed concrete (PPC) and unbonded beams, has been experimentally investigated by applying impact load to their middle with falling hammers. The typical measurement wave curves are described. Influences of a falling hammer’s gravitational potential energy on the dynamic properties of the PPC beam are analyzed. Based on the analog simulation theory, the impact-load carrying capability of the actual unbonded PPC beam with span 12 m is gained. Results indicate that the unbonded PPC beams have favorable performance of anti-impact properties fragile destruction will not happen, and the unbonded PPC beams can be used in wide-span underground structures.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a hybrid beamforming design algorithm for a multi-user physical layer security modulation technique. The hybrid beamforming scheme is used in the base station to generate multi-beams according to the direction angle of the target users. The base station first uses a secure analog beamforming scheme to generate analog beams in multiple desired directions, then uses minimum mean square error (MMSE) to design the digital beamforming matrix to eliminate inter-beam interference. Due to randomly selecting a subset of antennas to transmit signals at the symbol rate, the base station transmits the defined constellation to the target users and projects the randomized constellation in the other angles. In addition, the superposition of signals is affected by a randomly selected antennas subset, resulting in higher sidelobe energy. However, due to the integer optimization target, the optimization problem of antenna subsets is non-trivial. Therefore, this paper proposes a cross-entropy iteration method to choose the optimal antenna combination to reduce the sidelobe energy. The simulation shows that the proposed method in this paper has about 10 dB lower sidelobe energy than the random selection method. Besides, the eavesdropper’s symbol error rate of QPSK is always 0.75, while the multi-target users meet the quality of service requirements.

Abstract:
In this paper, a joint spatio–radio frequency resource allocation and hybrid beamforming scheme for the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems is proposed. We consider limited feedback two-stage hybrid beamformimg for decomposing the precoding matrix at the base-station. To reduce the channel state information (CSI) feedback of massive MIMO, we utilize the channel covariance-based RF precoding and beam selection. This beam selection process minimizes the inter-group interference. The regularized block diagonalization can mitigate the inter-group interference, but requires substantial overhead feedback. We use channel covariance-based eigenmodes and discrete Fourier transforms (DFT) to reduce the feedback overhead and design a simplified analog precoder. The columns of the analog beamforming matrix are selected based on the users’ grouping performed by the K-mean unsupervised machine learning algorithm. The digital precoder is designed with joint optimization of intra-group user utility function. It has been shown that more than 50 % feedback overhead is reduced by the eigenmodes-based analog precoder design. The joint beams, users scheduling and limited feedbacK-based hybrid precoding increases the sum-rate by 27 . 6 % compared to the sum-rate of one-group case, and reduce the feedback overhead by 62 . 5 % compared to the full CSI feedback.

Abstract:
This study examined the flexural behavior of the poplar laminated veneer lumber (LVL) box floor with orthogonal rib beams. Four 3.6 m × 4.8 m box floor samples made of poplar LVL orthogonal rib beams and oriented strand board (OSB) plates were tested under vertical uniform loading, from which the bearing capacity, stiffness, and failure characteristics were analyzed. There was no damage in all box floor samples at the normal service load of 2.5 kN/m2, and the maximum deflection was far less than the allowable value. When the maximum load was applied, the load-displacement curve of each floor sample exhibited a linear relationship without obvious failure. However, localized failure was manifested as the dislocation slip of the rib beams relative to the upper and lower floor slabs at the corner nodes and the joint expansion and staggered floors at the bottom plate, with obvious failure signs. The rib beam height had the most significant impact on the floor stiffness, followed by the spacing of short-side rib beams, whereas the OSB plate thickness had lest impact. The mid-span deflections of poplar LVL orthogonal ribbed box floor samples, which were calculated using the analog slab method, were in good agreement with the experimental results with an error being less than 10%.

Abstract:
In this paper a general solution to the geometrically nonlinear dynamic analysis of plates stiffened by arbitrarily placed parallel beams of arbitrary doubly symmetric cross-section, subjected to dynamic loading, is presented. The plate-beam structure is assumed to undergo moderate large deflections and the nonlinear analysis is carried out by retaining nonlinear terms in the kinematical relations. According to the proposed model, the arbitrarily placed parallel stiffening beams are isolated from the plate by sections in the lower outer surface of the plate, making the hypothesis that the plate and the beams can slip in all directions of the connection without separation and taking into account the arising tractions in all directions at the fictitious interfaces. These tractions are integrated with respect to each half of the interface width resulting in two interface lines, along which the loading of the beams and the additional loading of the plate are defined. Six boundary value problems are formulated and solved using the analog equation method (AEM), a BEM-based method. Both free and forced transverse vibrations are considered and numerical examples with great practical interest are presented demonstrating the effectiveness, wherever possible, the accuracy, and the range of applications of the proposed method.

Abstract:
The development of phased array antenna systems requires considerable resources and time. Due to this constraint, the Naval Air Command (NAVAIR) needs a phased array that can be physically reconfigured to meet the demands of multiple missions without added development time or cost. This work develops and demonstrates a solution to this problem by implementing an adaptive calibration approach to the development of electronically steerable antennas (ESAs). In contrast to previous analog adaptive beamformer systems, this system allows for an arbitrary antenna configuration with a variable number of antenna elements and locations. A simulation model of arbitrary phased array configurations was developed to test the beamformer calibration algorithm and was used to show practical tile locations. To demonstrate this approach, four 4x4 ULA phased array antenna tiles were built and tested together in various configurations to show the viability of developing a physically reconfigurable phased array system.

Abstract:
The interlock Beam Position Monitor (BPM) system in the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) is responsible for monitoring the particle beam position at the point of thebeam dump kicker magnets and is part of the machine protection system. Thecurrent interlock BPM system has some limitations and because of this, an upgradeproject has been initiated. This master thesis describes the development of theanalog front end electronics of this system, consisting mainly of two parts: A delayline based microwave filter and a high isolation and highly balanced power combinercircuit. The filter has been validated with real LHC beam measurements and is found towork as expected. More work however needs to be done to ensure the effect that thefilter itself has on the beam measurements as the filter could introduce some ringingeffects on the signal. The highly balanced high isolation power combiner has beentested through lab measurements and also shows promising results but long-termtests need to be conducted to ensure the reliability of the component as it will needto endure very high signal levels over long periods of time.

Abstract:
The experimental studies performed on the behaviour of very thick concrete beams subjected to static loads have revealed that the shear mechanisms play an important role in the overall response and failure behaviour. The aim of this thesis is to recommend suitable design methods for thick concrete beams subjected to off-centre static concentrated load according Eurocode 2 by using non-linear finite element analysis (NLFEA). To achieve this task, Abaqus/Explicit has been used by employing constitutive material models to capture the material non-linearity and stiffness degradation of concrete. Concrete damaged plasticity model and perfect plasticity model has been used for concrete and steel respectively. Three dilation angles (30º, 38º and 45º) and fracture energy from FIB 1990 (76 N/m) and FIB 2010 (142 N/m) has been used to investigate their influence on the finite element model. The dilation angle of 38º and FIB 2010 fracture energy was adopted as the suitable choice that reasonably matched with the experimental results. In verifying and calibrating the finite element model, the experimental results of the thick reinforced concrete beam conducted by the American Concrete Institute have been used. Three design approaches in the ultimate and serviceability limit state according to Eurocode 2 recommendations have been used namely; the beam method, strut and tie method and shell element method. Using the reinforcement detailing of the hand calculations of beam method and strut and tie method and linear finite element analysis of shell element method, non-linear finite element models have been pre-processed and analysed in Abaqus/Explicit. During the post-processing, the results have been interpreted and compared between the three design methods. The results under consideration are hand-calculated load at 0.3 mm crack width, FE-load at 0.3 mm crack width, amount of reinforcement and FE-failure load. The comparison of the results between the three design approaches (beam method, strut and tie method and shell element method) indicates that strut and tie method is better design approach, because it is relatively economic with regards to the quantity of reinforcement bars, has the higher load capacity and has a higher load at crack width of 0.3 mm crack width.

Abstract The unification of weak and electromagnetic interactions is described here. The unified theory (electroweak theory) is presented starting from the V-A in analogy with QED and QCD since it is based on the SU(2)xU(1) gauge group. We emphasize the experimental confirmations of such a great achievement: the discovery of neutral currents by the Gargamelle experiment and the on-shell observation of the W and Z bosons at CERN. The chapter provides readers with modern tools for the production of neutrino beams and the identification of high-mass particles at hadron colliders. Finally, precision electroweak physics, where the existence of new particles can be inferred by quantum corrections, is introduced. This statement is substantiated with an amazing finding from the Large Electron–Positron (LEP) collider: the number of light-active neutrinos cannot be greater than three.

Modern medical practices use different tools and procedures to observe pulse rate, heart rate variability, speed of pulse, blood pressure (BP), blood flowing rate in arteries, volume, etc. Years ago, in ancient medical practice like Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine (TMC), wrist pulse or radial pulse of the subject in consideration is checked to diagnose health conditions. Both wrist pulse diagnosis and ECG are non-invasive methods for assessing the health of a person. Wrist pulse is caused by cardiovascular activities, and thus, it can be correlated with the electrocardiography (ECG). In biomedical signals, ECGs represent electric activity of the heart. The rate at which a heart beats is pulse rate. The pulse movement is due to flow of blood in vessels. The parameters like rhythm, strength, hardness or softness, transition period, and change in rate of heartbeat can be measured. This may be helpful in diagnosis of cardiac and non-cardiac diseases.

Abstract This chapter’s subject is whether the permissibility of turning a runaway trolley from killing five toward killing one other person undermines the libertarian argument that we may not harm some people, by way of taxation policies, in order to help others to a greater degree. Guido Pincione has argued that the conditions that make it permissible to turn the trolley are also satisfied in the taxation case. The chapter examines Pincione’s account and raises three concerns with it, noting that (i) there may be morally significant differences between killing and imposing economic harm, (ii) accepting Pincione’s analogy may have counterintuitive implications, and (iii) the conditions that make it permissible to turn the trolley may not be satisfied in the taxation case. The chapter closes by considering how more recent work on the Trolley Problem bears on Pincione’s discussion.

Abstract:
In this chapter, we describe a compact array antenna. Beamforming is achieved by tuning the load reactances at parasitic elements surrounding the active central element. The existing beam forming algorithms for this reactively controlled parasitic array antennas require long training time. In comparison with these algorithms, a faster beamforming algorithm, based on simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) theory with a maximum cross-correlation coefficient (MCCC) criterion, is proposed in this chapter. The simulation results validate the algorithm. In an environment where the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is 0 dB, the algorithm converges within 50 iterations and achieves an output SINR of 10 dB. With the fast beamforming ability and its low power consumption attribute, the antenna makes the mass deployment of smart antenna technologies practical. To give a comparison of the beamforming algorithm with one of the standard beamforming algorithms for a digital beamforming (DBF) antenna array, we compare the proposed algorithm with the least mean square (LMS) beamforming algorithm. Since the parasitic array antenna is in nature an analog antenna, it cannot suppress correlated interference. Here, we assume that the interferences are uncorrelated.

Abstract:
Abstract A power flow finite element method (PFFEM) is developed in Reference 1 for the steady state high frequency vibration analysis of beams in which there is propagation of one wave type (bending). A finite element thermal analog presented herein for power flow analysis of beam members in which both bending and longitudinal waves are present is a farther development of the PFFEM. Conducting bar elements model power flow in the beam and also power transmission, reflection and conversion at structural joints. Convection elements model internal power dissipation. Properties of joint elements are in general non-linear and depend upon the power level at the joint as well as transmission and reflection coefficients. The thermal analog is verified for particular linear cases wherein properties of the joint elements are dependent only upon the transmission and reflection coefficients.

Abstract:
Limitations on neuron firing rates restrict the frequency bandwidth of many biological sensory systems. The cochlea overcomes these limitations to hear high frequency sounds through its tonotopic structure and non-synchronous sampling. The cochlea’s tapering basilar membrane serves as a filter bank decomposing an applied sound into its frequency components. Auditory hair cells produce neural impulses at the peaks in the local basilar membrane oscillations resulting in an event-driven, sub-Nyquist rate sampling strategy. These two effects extend the human hearing range to about 20 kHz despite maximum neuron firing rates of just a few hundred hertz. Inspired by this, this paper presents a concept demonstration of an accelerometer and signal compression strategy for high-rate impact events using a similar filter bank approach. A series of clamped-clamped beams will serve as analog analysis filters much like the cochlea’s basilar membrane. This paper focuses on the design and simulation of such a beam array and how the natural frequencies and damping ratios of the beams’ first modes affect measuring a broadband impact excitation.

Abstract:
Comparison analyses are conducted for straight and curved viscoelastic beams based on Euler-Bernoulli strength of materials prescriptions and on rigorous formulations in terms of 3-D field equations. The concepts of elastic straight and curved beam analyses are well established. In the present paper, these geometric principles are extended to linear viscoelastic materials. The beams are considered subjected to un-symmetric bending as well as to thermal expansions. The distinct conditions leading to shear center and neutral axis motions in time, previously observed in straight beams are investigated. The applicability of the elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle (analogy) in terms of integral transforms is demonstrated by application to several simulations. Comparison studies are based on pure bending loading configurations as these offer the least distinct geometric deformation patterns.
