Abstract:
Aluminium alloy related to Metal Matrix Composites (AMMC’s) have been achieve enormous comprehensive acknowledgment for aerospace and structural applications, due to its excellent corrosion resistant, good wear resistant, high strength and light weight. In this paper, the experimental study deals with investigation influence of reinforcement (Magnesium oxide and Silicon Carbide) particles on various mechanical properties of aluminium alloy (Al 6061). AMMC was fabricated by stir casting method. The exsitu method was used to fabricate because of its less complexity. The MMC specimens with different weight percentage of reinforcement particles such as 3%, 6% and 9% were prepared. After the fabrication, the ingots were machined for preparation of test samples. The tensile, compression, Impact and hardness test were taken to study the mechanical properties and effect of varying weight percentage of reinforcements. As the outcome, the tensile and compression strength were progressively increase with addition of magnesium oxide and silicon carbide.

Abstract:
AbstractThe effects of micro and nano sized reinforcement particles on microstructure and mechanical properties of aluminium alloy-based metal matrix composites were investigated in this study. AlSi9Cu3 alloy was reinforced with micro and nano sized ceramic reinforcement particles at different weight fractions by using a stir casting method. The mechanical tests (hardness, three point bending) were performed to determine the mechanical properties of AlSi9Cu3 alloy-based microcomposites (AMMCs) and nanocomposites (AMMNCs). The experimental results have shown that the size and weight fraction of reinforcement particles have a strong influence on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of AlSi9Cu3 alloy-based microcomposites and nanocomposites. The relative densities of all AMMC and AMMNC samples are lower than unreinforced AlSi9Cu3 alloy due to porosity formation with the increase of weight fraction of reinforcement particles. As weight fraction increases, hardness values of AMMCs and AMMNCs increase. Maximum flexural strength can be obtained at 3.5wt.% for the AMMC sample with microsized Al2O3 particles and at 2wt.% for the AMMNC sample with nano-sized Al2O3 particles. After the weight fractions exceed these values, flexural strengths of both AMMCs and AMMNCs decrease due to clustering of Al2O3 particles.

Abstract:
AbstractIn the present study, aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMC’s) reinforced with boron carbide (B4C) and graphite (Gr) particles were prepared by stir casting method. Dry sliding wear behavior of developed composites was conducted on pin on disc apparatus with variation in sliding distance, applied load and sliding speed. Taguchi method was employed to optimize the data in a controlled way. Analysis of variance was employed to examine the wear behavior of base alloy (Al2219), mono (Al/B4C) and hybrid (Al/B4C/Gr) metal matrix composites. The correlations were established by linear regression models and validated using confirmation tests. The obtained results indicated that B4C content, sliding distance is highly affected by the dry sliding wear followed by sliding speed and applied load. The incorporation of B4C and Gr particles in aluminium improves the tribological characteristics. The SEM images of mono composite shows the deep grooves on worn surface. It demonstrates the signs of abrasive wear of mono composite. The hybrid composite exhibits excellent wear resistance when compared to mono composite and base alloy. The main reason of that is the Gr particles act as a solid lubricating material in the hybrid composite (Al/B4C/Gr).

Abstract:
Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (AMMCs) are promising materials for advanced structural, aviation, aerospace, marine, defense applications, automotive and other related sectors because of their excellent combination of properties. The AMMCs is fabricated by using stir casting method, which is the simplest way of fabricating a material. In this paper aluminium alloy 6061 is been reinforced with SiC along with fly ash and neem leaf ash. The three samples have been fabricated they are Sample1 (Al85%+SiC15%), Sample2 (Al 85%+SiC5%+FlyAsh10%) & Sample3 (Al85% +SiC5%+ Neem leaf ash10%). After fabricating this three sample the following test are conducted like Hardness test, Microstructure Test, Friction and Wear Test. The wettability of SiC and Neem leaf ash particles in the matrix was improved by adding them. The optical and scanning electron micrographs showed a homogeneous dispersion of composition material. The result shows that the Sample-3 (Al80% +SiC10%+ Neem leaf ash10%) shows improvement in mechanical properties like hardness, the wear properties has been reduced and their Micro structural characterization clearly shows uniform distribution of SiC and Neem Leaf ash in the composition.

Abstract:
The most common use for aluminium metal matrix composite, or AMMC, is variety of industrial submissions, including those in aerospace, automotive, marine, and sports industries, amongst many others. The most important reinforcing components for manufacturing AMMC are SiC, aluminium oxides, MnO, graphene, and carbon nano tubes, since these components are often used in practice. This article’s goal is to build AMMCs that are reinforced with Silicon carbide (SiC) and Alumina (Al2O3). In order to make AMMC, a procedure known as stir casting is used. Since the last several years, increased attention has been placed on the preparation of AMMCs employing agro waste as reinforcing materials. Examples of such waste are rice husk and/or SiC. As soon as the Al-matrix material has been melted using this method and churned violently, reinforcing material is added to one side of this vortex, creating a spherical structure. The AMMCs may be prepared via a procedure called stir casting, which involves a violent and whirling motion. In the beginning, the furnace is used to melt the aluminium alloy (AA3105) when the metal is in a semisolid state. The reinforcing materials, also known as SiC and Alumina (Al2O3), are warmed to temperatures of 260 and 220 degrees Celsius, respectively. According to the findings of AMMC, tensile strength and hardness of material both rose by 22.41 percent and 45.5 percent, respectively, when they were reinforced with 4.75 weight percent of each kind of reinforcement (SiC, Al2O3, and 1 percent Cr). When 1 percent Cr, 4.75 weight percent SiC, and 4.75 weight percent Al2O3 of composite material are used.

Abstract:
Abstract: The present research looks upon metal matrix composites, namely Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (AMMCs), as well as modelling and simulation of the orthogonal metal cutting process. A fundamental component of AMMCs is aluminum alloy, which creates a percolating network and acts as the matrix stage. Multiwall nano carbon tubes are another non-metallic component used as reinforcement in the aluminum alloy matrix (CNT). Some of the primary advantages of AMMNCs over unreinforced products are higher strength, high stiffness, decreased weight, improved heat properties, controlled thermal development coefficient, and thermal/heat monitoring. The SHPB test at high stain rates is commonly used to establish the Johnson cook constants for AMMNC work piece material. The Johnson-Cook constitutive model, which estimates flow stress as the product of strain, strain rate, and temperature effects, is used to determine work hardening, strain-rate hardening, and thermal softening. FEM simulations were carried out using 2D-Deform software. When the results of the 2D-Deform software-derived flow stressandtemperature are compared to the findings of the analytical model, the results are satisfactory. Abstract:
Aluminum metal matrix composites (AMMCs) have become increasingly ubiquitous in the fields of aerospace and automobile businesses due to their lightweight properties. Their machining is a challenging task because of the presence of supplemented particles, also called reinforcements. As the wt% of the supplemented particles changes, the morphological and machining behaviors of the AMMCs change. The present work is focused on exploring the thermo-mechanical properties of AMMCs which would help in AMMC applications in the aerospace industry with a new collection of composites containing silicon carbide (SiC) and zircon/zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) as supplements in wt% of 5%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. Uniform binary and hybrid sample pallets are prepared by powder metallurgy (PM). The said samples are sintered and then machined using wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) employing brass wire with a feed rate of 2 to 3 mm/min. Also, analysis of porosity and recast layer formation is performed via the microstructure, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Some interesting and useful findings are obtained which can extend the applications of AMMCs in automobiles and the aerospace industry. The results reveal that temperature and wt% are playing their significant roles in the changes in the thermo-mechanical properties of AMMCs. Mathematical equations via regression analysis using Minitab 17 and Excel are developed for the congruence of experimental data. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is also performed. Hence, the most optimized relationships for the best machining output are established and presented in this proposed study.

The Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (AMMCs) have been becoming suitable materials for many devices in the application of various fields like heavy equipment’s industry, automobile, aeronautics and etc. because of its excellent physical and structural characteristics. The research on AMMC dealt the effect of reinforcement such as fly-ash, SiC, Al2O3, Graphite, B4C, Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) on aluminium in different percentages. Every reinforcement has its own characteristics that enhance the base aluminium characteristics when added. By adding these types of reinforcement to metal base led to enhance the properties like wear resistance, stiffness, creep, tensile strength, fatigue, toughness, thermal conductivity, hardness in comparison with traditional approach on materials engineering. This review paper was aimed to give the detailed information about the impact of various reinforcements incorporated in matrix by illustrating its benefits and drawbacks. This extensive survey on AMMC could be useful to develop farther.

Abstract:
The central aim of this thesis is to demonstrate that A.R. Ammons, Charles Bernstein, Susan Howe, and W.S. Merwin commit to a pragmatic poetic project of working language to facilitate cultural renewal. In illuminating this shared pragmatic work in poems from the turn of the 1990s, the thesis contradicts ecocritical assertions about the inimical relationship between ecopoetry and postmodern poetries such as Language. As ecocriticism established itself as a school of literary criticism in the 1990s, its proponents were damning of the influence postmodern literary theory was exerting on American poetry. Ecocritics argued that postmodernism had dangerously devalued the referential relationship between word and world at a time of escalating environmental crises. Taking Bernstein and Howe as representatives of Language poetry, and Ammons and Merwin as representatives of ecopoetry, the thesis will contest this ecocritical argument by illustrating that these four poets share a vision of poetry as a uniquely positioned medium for rejuvenating language and, subsequently, shifting cultural attitudes in a politically progressive manner. In order to make this argument, the thesis builds on a body of literary criticism which explores American poetry’s debt to American pragmatism. Critics connecting poetry to pragmatism have argued that pragmatists such as William James, Charles Sanders Peirce, and Ralph Waldo Emerson have helped American poets establish an epistemological middle ground between foundationalism and the sceptical side of postmodernism. The poets studied in this thesis extend this tradition of pragmatic poetry by using their writing to engage in an ongoing poetic rejuvenation of language and ideology. Furthermore, the thesis shows how these poets’ pragmatic approach to language and epistemology aligns them the ‘progressive’ side of the Culture Wars which were erupting in the early 1990s.

Abstract:
The study discusses the role of a wet nurse regarding the protection of a child in ancient Egypt. There is evidence of the phenomenon of the wet nurse dating from the Old Kingdom’s Pyramid texts, depictions in tombs from the New kingdom, to contracts between the wet nurse and her employer from the Late Period. They were most frequent in royal and elite families and made it possible for the mother to participate in social activities without worrying about feeding her baby, as well as being a symbol for economic wealth.  Wet nurses have been found depicted in funerary contexts, holding ritual protective objects, and been mentioned in protective spells targeted towards children. This shows that the wet nurse had a part in the protection of a child and the intention behind this study is to discuss her participation in it and what it involves. The sources used in this study are to contain two subjects to be of relevance: wet nurse and the protection of a child, which lead to a restricted amount of material to analyse. The material studied contains of amulets, serpent staffs, three apotropaic wands, depictions from two graves and one protective spell. The analysis resulted in a conclusion claiming that the practice of protection is a part of the wet nurse’s occupation and were practiced with at least an apotropaic wand. Moreover, the depiction of her holding apotropaic wands in funerary contexts representing rebirth shows that the wet nurse is present and offering protection in the events of a child’s birth.

In 2001 the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a revised global recommendation for exclusive breastfeeding for a child ´s first six months. The aim of this study was to investigate what information parents receiving from the Child Health Care about introduction of solids to breastfed infants and if they follow the recommendation. A further aim is to document reasons for introduction of solids at the selected time and describe what food parents start with.

The method has a descriptive and a qualitative design. Users of several Swedish parenting websites were asked to participate in the study. A total of 27 users completed the anonymous open-ended questions posted on the websites. Supplementary data (13 texts) were obtained from the forum discussions on parenting websites. Data were analyzed with content analysis.

Results: The new recommendation in Sweden from 2003 is introduction of solids at the age of 6 months. According to the parents the Child Health Care has recommended introduction of solids between 4 months and 6 months. A few of the parents said they got a double message, or received no recommendation. The timing when the first solids were given by the parents varied between 3 months and 10 months. The most common reason to introduce solids was that the “infant is interested in food”. Porridge made from commercial baby cereals, vegetarian purees or “finger food” was most commonly used for complementary food.

Skillman, Nikki Marie. "The Lyric in the Age of the Brain." Thesis, Harvard University, 2012. http://dissertations.umi.com/gsas.harvard:10543.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation asks how the physiological conception of the mind promoted by scientific, philosophical and cultural forces since the mid-twentieth century has affected poetic accounts of mental experience. For the cohort of poets I identify here—James Merrill, Robert Creeley, A.R. Ammons, John Ashbery, and Jorie Graham—recognition that fallible, biological mechanisms determine the very structure of human subjectivity causes deep anxiety about how we perceive the world, exercise reason, and produce knowledge. These poets feel caught between the brain sciences’ empirical vision of the mind, which holds the appeal of a fresh and credible vocabulary but often appears reductive, and the literary tradition’s overwhelmingly transcendental vision of the mind, which bears intuitive resonance but also appears increasingly naïve. These poets find aesthetic opportunity in confronting the nature of mind: Merrill takes up forgetting as a central subject, making elegant, entropic monuments out of the distortions and perforations of embodied memory; Ammons and Creeley become captivated by the motion of thinking, and use innovative, dynamic forms to emphasize the temporal and spatial impositions of embodiment upon the motions of thought; Ashbery luxuriates in the representational possibilities of distraction as a structural and thematic principle; Graham identifies the anatomical limits of the visual system with our limits of empathetic perspective, conceiving of her poems as prostheses that can enhance our feeble power to imagine other minds. In a host of significatory practices that reimagine lyric subjectivity in physiological terms, these poets’ ambitious and influential oeuvres reveal the convergence of “raw” and “cooked” post-war poetries in a set of fundamental suppositions about our aptitudes as observers, knowers, and interpreters; this convergence exposes the vestiges of the Romantic mind in modernism’s empowered conception of the poetic imagination. Uniquely equipped to explore meaningful correspondences between physiological and literary form, the contemporary lyric defies the novel’s preeminent position in the study of literary consciousness by demonstrating an enterprising talent for philosophical investigation of the experience of mind.

The objective of this study was to evaluate possible environmental impacts caused by the construction and filling of the Espora hydroelectric power plant s reservoir (localized in Aporé, Serranópolis and Itarumã GO, Brasil) on small mammal fauna and their Hantavirus and Trypanosoma cruzi infection rates. Small mammals were captured in periods pre- and postfilling of the reservoir between 2003 and 2007. The taxonomic identification of rodents and marsupials was performed through morphology and karyotyping. Serological diagnostic of Hantavirus infection was performed through IgG (Andes antigen) Enzime Immunoassay (ELISA), while indirect immunofluorescence (RIFI) and hemoculture were used to diagnose T. cruzi infection. In total, among rodents and marsupials, 358 specimens were captured, resulting in a total species richness of 17 species. Didelphis albiventris, Gracilinanus agilis and Marmosa murina were the most abundant marsupial species, being responsible for 94.5% of the captures. Among rodents, Hylaeamys megacephalus, Calomys tener and Necromys lasiurus were the most abundant, representing 44.04% of the captures. Of all captured specimens, 145 were serologically tested for T. cruzi infection, being 33.8% found positive. Out of 104 hemoculture testing performed for T. cruzi infection 10 were positive. Of the 193 rodents captured, 26.4% were tested for Hantavirus serum prevalence, from which only 2 specimens of Rattus rattus were found positive. In the post-filling period, there was a reduction in the proportion of captured rodents in relation to captured marsupials, and also in male to female ratio of G. agilis, M. murina and N. lasiurus. Species richness did not change with reservoir filling. T. cruzi and Hantavirus infection rates in the post-filling period were not statistically different than in the pre-filling period. The small mammals low infection rates, by either etiological agent, after filling the reservoir indicate a low probability of Hantavirus and Chagas Disease emergence after implementation of the Espora hydroelectric power plant in the area. Also, our results indicate that this undertaking does not cause a great impact on small mammal fauna, considering the relatively high species richness after filling the reservoir.

Abstract:
The adaptive multi-mode control strategy (AMMCS) is defined as the control strategy that switches control parameters for the purpose of adjusting vehicles to diverse traffic conditions and driver’s habits. This strategy is composed of off-line and on-line procedures. In the off-line procedure, several sets of control parameters are optimized under representative driving patterns (RDP). In the on-line procedure, the control parameter switching or interpolation is periodically activated based on the driving pattern recognition (DPR) algorithm, assuming that the driving pattern during the future control horizon doesn’t change significantly compared to the past pattern. The AMMCS is conceptually similar to one of predictive control theories, namely the receding horizon control which is also known as model predictive control. The AMMCS is expected to be applied well to hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) system which is very sensitive to driving patterns. Furthermore, the AMMCS can be combined with the two conventional control strategies using global and local optimization techniques to improve performances further. The design goal of the AMMCS is to minimize fuel consumption and NOx for a pre-transmission single shaft parallel HEV.
