Full textThe initial goal of this thesis has been then to address this problem by proposing, on one hand, a cognitive approach based on the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) paradigm to represent the decision-making processes of human actors in agent-based models and, on the second hand, a validation of this approach in a complete land-use change model in which most of the factors cited above have also been simulated. The outcome of this work is a generic approach, which has been validated in a complex integrated land-use change model of a small region of the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Our main contributions have been:The integration of the BDI architecture within an agent-based modeling platform (GAMA); The design of the Multi-Agent Based Land-Use Change (MAB-LUC) framework that can take into account the farmers’ decision-making in the land-use change processes; The proposal of a solution to assess the socio-economic and environmental factors in land-use planning and to integrate the MAB-LUC framework into the land-use planning process of. I conclude by showing that this work, designed in a generic fashion, can be reused and generalized for the modeling of complex socio-ecological systems where individual human factors need to be represented accurately

Full textThis thesis is a geomorphic study of two separate sites associated with two large deltas: the Amazon and the Mekong, with a focus on a beach and chenier in French Guiana integrated into the mud dispersal system of the Amazon, and on the links between destabilization of the Mekong delta shoreline and morpho-bathymetric changes in the deltaic channels under increasing human influence. The study of Montjoly beach in French Guiana was carried out using a combination of an innovative approach in SfM (Structure from Motion) airborne photogrammetry, hydrodynamic and bathymetric measurements, and wave propagation modelling over the nearshore bathymetry. The results show the strong potential of SfM photogrammetry in high-resolution morphometric and sediment budget surveys of sandy beach, and confirm a previously proposed model of beach rotation under mud-bank influence. The second field site in French Guiana, a retreating chenier over a muddy abandoned polder formerly a rice fields, work based on a multi-decadal analysis of satellite images combined with short-term field topographic and hydrodynamic measurements highlighted high rates of chenier migration (up to 160 m a year) and retreat mechanisms over the muddy substrate due to its rheology.A GIS-based analysis of bathymetric changes in the deltaic channels of the Mekong over a 10-year period (1998 to 2008) enabled the quantification of a net loss of 200 million m3 of sediments and an increase in the mean depth of the channels, which appears as unnatural and due to sand mining. These important sediment extractions have serious repercussions on sediment supply to the Mekong delta coast, which shows important rates of erosion

Full textFood shortage related to the changes in land which is used for planning are a current issue, but also a source of controversy. This, particularly, is the case of the Gianh River watershed, located in the Central Region of Vietnam. Indeed, since 1986, this delta of littoral zone has been known for mutations. Rice farming helps to bring job to a large number of the population, is a safety valve against the food shortage because the more farmers, the more food would be produced. This region, on the other hand, is experiencing rapid demographic, urban and economic growth, as a result, it leads to an increase in the demand for food while the agricultural areas tend to be reduced and disappeared. Another effect of this change is the accentuation of the consequences of typhoons with the conjunction of storms, tides and floods of the river. The risk increases because of the demographic concentration in fragile areas, and the concreteization linked to the extension of the city. A problem of food insecurity is likely to appear in the basin if too high densities are combined with the reduction of farming areas and risks. That's why flood management, prevention and protection solutions are proposed to help developers in Vietnam to reduce mentioned risks

Full textZagazig, a middle city of the delta of the Nile and the capital of the province of arqayah, records a very high demographic growth in the second half of the 20th century. The remote sensing allows to emphasize this growth by a series of diachronic maps of the urban and peri-urban land use, and to quantify the process of urbanization of the rural space which resulted from it. The city, in addition, obtained many functions of commandment which shapes various areas of influence; the largest of them reaches the Mediterranean and the Suez Canal, while towards the south the influence of Cairo limits the extension of these areas. In a perspective of regional planning, it is suggested to modify the current administrative limits to adjust them to the living spaces of the population, and on the other hand, to freeze the peri-urban process of urbanization in order to protect the agricultural land by delocalizing all future growth of residential space to the desert margins of the delta, like what has been achieved, on a greater scale, around Cairo
Lainé, Jean-Pierre. "Aspects de la vie rurale dans le delta de la chao phraya en Thaïlande." Paris 4, 1986. http://www.theses.fr/1986PA040413.
Full textThe delta of the chao phraya (27,700 sq. Km) is the richest and the most densely populated region of thailand. In spite of an increasing urbanization and the influence of the bangkok-thonburi urban center, this delta is still an all-important rural area. It contributes for more than one third to the national agricultural yield. This economic part rests on a few basic rural activities. Some, as rice-growing, are ancient and developed progressively since last century. Others, though traditionnal in the delta, have been recently modernized : market gardening and aquaculture. In other respects, agricultural progresses are linked to the tremendous works of hydraulic development started in the second half of the nineteenth century. Related to the hydraulic develop ment one may point out different types of villages activities and rural development. In order to make this study of rural life complete, two specifics problems affecting the farmers have been studied : the credit problems and the marketing organization

Full textThe present thesis seeks to define a conceptual framework in order to examine the populationmovements related to environmental risks. For about twenty years, several terms haveemerged to describe thedisplaced people such as: environmental refugees, eco-refugees,climate refugees or eco-migrants. The terms and the status attributed to these populations arelargely dependent on the nature, strength and speed of the environmental event contributing totheir displacement. It is therefore necessary to specify the criteria in order to avoid anyconfusion and to be able to assess the physical flows generated by the environmentaldisasters. Our analysis is focused on the risks of submersion and inundation along the coastand in the delta areas associated with rise in the sea levels. In view of these increasing risks, it is absolutely necessary to set up a "proactive strategy", based on the triptych protection -prevention - anticipation. For each type of risk considered, this strategy requires, beyond thedelimitation of the geographical areas concerned, quantification and qualification of thepotentially affected populations. Consequently, the main aspect of our problematic combinestwo types of vulnerability:the firstdue to environmental disasters’ risks such as floods and thesecondto increasing population pressure. Finally, we chose to examine in our study two areashighly subjected to flood risks such as the Gironde estuaryin France and the Axios -Loudias-Aliakmonas Deltas in Central Macedoniain Greece trying to estimate the potential size ofpopulation movements in 2025 and 2050
