Abstract:
Kemudian jenis polisemi disebabkan oleh pergeseran penggunaan dan pengaruhasing. kata kunci: ambiguitas leksikal, homonimi, lirik lagu, polisei, semantik ABSTRACTAmbiguity is often found in literary works, namely novels, short stories, films and song lyrics. Ambiguity makes it difficult for non-native people to find the correct meaning of words. Therefore, ambiguity studies are neededto avoid errors in interpreting a word. This research specifically discusses ambiguity in lexical forms. The aim of this research is to find types of lexical ambiguity and identify the factors that cause lexical ambiguity in songlyrics. The data in this study were taken from three song lyrics in the album The Book of Us: Gluon written by Even of Day. Data analysis uses Ullmann's theory which divides lexical ambiguity into two types and the factorsthat cause ambiguity. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data analysis technique uses the Naver Korean – Indonesian dictionary to find the meaning contained in each word. The results of data analysisshow that in the three lyrics of the album The Book of Us: Gluon there are two types of lexical ambiguity, namely homonymy type lexical ambiguity and polysemy type lexical ambiguity. The results of this research alsofound the causal factors for each type of lexical ambiguity, namely the type of homonymy caused by phonetic convergence, meaning divergence, and foreign influences. Later types of polysemy were caused by shifts inusage and foreign influences. keywords: lexical ambiguity, homonymy, song lyrics, polysemy, semantics.

Abstract:
Abstract: Ancient and medieval rhetorical theorists gave much attention to discovering an author's intent ( voluntas ) from the letter of a document ( scriptum ). By contrast, resolving ambiguity ( ambiguitas ) was supposedly easy. But in fact, ambiguity proves the more slippery problem because it functions somewhere between argumentation (a controversy to be disputed) and stylistic embellishment. Legal discourse often tried to impose limits on ambiguity, but at the same time ambiguitas could be quietly weaponized — in both law and poetry — to transform legal and even theological meaning. Where rhetorical theorists such as Cicero, Quintilian, Augustine, William of Champeaux (c. 1100), Geoffrey of Vinsauf (c. 1210), and Boncompagno da Signa (c. 1235), as well as legal theorists such as Henry de Bracton, try to pin down how ambiguity works, poets such as William Langland seem to revel in the slippages that it affords.

Abstract:
Kata kunci: peranakan Tionghoa; ambiguitas; identitasKarina-Adinda (1913) by Lauw Giok Lan presents discourses in favour of colonialism but at the same time also indicates support of local people and traditions. This illustrates the Chinese descent’s ambiguity in responding to discourses surrounding colonialism, locality and their Chinese identity. The main issue appears to lie in the subject’s response towards colonial discourses by displaying ambiguity strategy. In revealing this ambiguity, postcolonial theory and method have been employed in this research. The analysis revealed that ambiguity strategy was in fact used as a way of resisting towards colonial hegemony and empowering Chinese identity that is based on tradition. Additionally, the strategy developed culture-based nationalism that centres on the ideas of nationhood and the Eastern cultures. Keywords: Chinese-Indonesian; ambiguity; identity

Abstract:
A problem to solve in generative grammar is to account for why children are able to note when a sentence or expression is ambiguous, even if they have not received explicit training for that. The theory of mental models can give an explanation in that way. That explanation is based upon the idea that people interpret linguistic messages by considering the semantics models corresponding to them, and it has been also proposed that the syntactic structures of those messages can be recovered by taken those very models into account. However, the point of this paper is that it tries to show that ambiguity at semantic level, that is, the cases in which models referring to different facts can be attributed to one sentence, does not necessarily lead to ambiguity at syntactic level. As it is argued, it is possible to capture models describing several opposite circumstances by means of only one logical form.

Abstract:
Apollonius Dyscolus’ use of ambiguity in grammatical problem-solving has in recent years had the benefit of two scholarly studies. David Blank, in the course of his analysis of the Syntax as a whole (1982), has described the broad functions which Apollonius assigns to ambiguity. Jean Lallot's 1988 paper, ‘Apollonius Dyscole et l'ambigüité linguistique: problemes et solutions’, is devoted exclusively to the treatment of linguistic ambiguity in Apollonius’ work. Yet it is to be feared that the flood of light thrown by these scholars on what had been an unregarded corner of ancient grammar has shown up rather more than Apollonius would have cared to admit, both about the nature, and about the prospects for success, of the enterprise on which he was engaged. At the same time, certain structural features of ancient grammar, at least of the ancient grammar which Apollonius himself constructed, have come into sharper focus: features clear enough with the benefit of hindsight, but glimpsed, it appears, all too dimly by Apollonius himslf. It is now worryingly clear not only that ambiguity was ambiguous for Apollonius, but also that the ambiguity of ambiguity represented a genuine threat to the coherence and value of his work. In this paper I set out to justify both these claims.

Abstract:
The growth in the construction of hotels, apartments, and condotels is considered unfriendly to business actors because it is related to low occupancy rates and price competition for similar services. The government responded to this problem by issuing a moratorium policy for hotel business permits and the like. However, after the government issued a moratorium policy, the number of businesses did not stagnate, even increasing significantly when compared to before the government enacted the moratorium policy. This study uses a qualitative research type with a descriptive approach that aims to determine the dimensions of ambiguity in policy and policy implementation processes. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation. In this study, the authors used Matland's conflict ambiguity. The results showed that the increase in the number of businesses after the issuance of the moratorium policy was initiated by the ambiguity of objectives in policy and ambiguity of means in the policy implementation process.

Abstract:
Abstract. Once the unknown integer ambiguity values are resolved, the GPS carrier phase observation will be transformed into a millimeter-level precision measurement. However, GPS observation are prone to a variety of errors, making it a biased measurement. There are two components in identifying integer ambiguities: estimation and validation. The estimation procedure aims to determine the ambiguity's integer values, and the validation step checks whether the estimated integer value is acceptable. Even though the theory and procedures for ambiguity estimates are well known, the topic of ambiguity validation is still being researched. The dependability of computed coordinates will be reduced if a false fixed solution emerges from an incorrectly estimated ambiguity integer value. In this study, the reliability of the fixed solution obtained by using several base stations in GPS positioning was investigated, and the coordinates received from these bases were compared. In a conclusion, quality control measures such as employing several base stations will improve the carrier phase measurement's accuracy.

Abstract:
Increasing a current payoff’s ambiguity from a precise value (e.g., $150) to a range (e.g., $140–$160) generally reduces the payoff’s appeal, as does delaying the payoff from, for example, now to one year from now. However, we report five studies in which adding small ranges to future payoffs increases future payoff appeal, an emergent property designated the future ambiguity effect. This effect generalizes across various choice sets, payoff levels, and delays, and it prevails even when a future smaller ambiguous payoff is preferred more than a future larger precise payoff. Two underlying processes are proposed and supported: (1) the payoff ambiguity’s explicit risk of receiving a smaller payoff distracts people from the future’s larger implicit risk of receiving nothing, and (2) payoff ambiguity restores some of the excitement lost to the future’s psychological distance. Nonetheless, the future ambiguity effect is not universal, given that larger ranges can reduce and even eliminate it (boundary condition). This paper was accepted by Yuval Rottenstreich, judgment and decision making.

Abstract:
Ambiguity in contracts is often perceived as undesirable. A certain level of ambiguity, however, can have significant virtues: reducing transaction costs associated with foreseeing and negotiating remote contingencies; facilitating the closing of efficient transactions that would not otherwise close; increasing the adaptability and “anti-fragility” of contracts in the face of unforeseen developments; and preserving trust between the parties. Some contracts are more likely to benefit from a certain degree of ambiguity. Relying on multi-disciplinary literature, this Article systematically analyzes ambiguity’s merits and identifies three principal features of transactions that are positively correlated to the virtues of ambiguity: (1) long duration, (2) relational nature, and (3) complexity and uncertainty of the transaction and the relevant markets. As a case study, this Article considers intellectual property (IP) licenses negotiated between sophisticated parties. IP license agreements exhibit the above three transactional features, which are tightly linked to the unique attributes of intellectual property, including its non-rival nature, tacit knowledge surrounding formal IP rights, and significant uncertainty embedded in IP rights and markets. This Article thus concludes that IP licenses constitute paradigmatic candidates for “constructive ambiguity.” This Article further demonstrates that within a specific transaction ambiguity may be more effective for certain types of provisions and topics and proposes new guidelines for addressing ambiguity in a given contract. This Article’s proposal is based on a distinction between core and periphery issues, which it measures using three parameters: (1) probability, (2) significance, and (3) timing. When, from an ex ante perspective, the relevant provision concerns the core aspects of the transaction, ambiguity is generally unwarranted, and courts’ ex post treatment of it should be less tolerant. Yet, when the provision is closer to the periphery of the transaction, ambiguity is often efficient, and courts reviewing the contract should treat it more liberally. While the proposed model addresses ambiguity in IP licenses as its case study, it can have broader implications for contract law in general.

Abstract:
We introduce a model of random ambiguity aversion. Choice is stochastic due to unobserved shocks to both information and ambiguity aversion. This is modeled as a random set of beliefs in the maxmin expected utility model of Gilboa and Schmeidler (1989). We characterize the model and show that the distribution of ambiguity aversion can be uniquely identified from binary choices. A novel stochastic order on random sets is introduced that characterizes greater uncertainty aversion under stochastic choice. If the set of priors is the Aumann expectation of the random set, then choices satisfy dynamic consistency. This corresponds to an agent who knows the distribution of signals but is uncertain about how to interpret signal realizations. More broadly, the analysis of stochastic properties of random ambiguity attitudes provides a theoretical foundation for the study of other random nonlinear utility models.

Abstract:
Many models of word recognition predict a lexical ambiguity disadvantage in semantic categorization tasks (SCTs). However, recent evidence suggests that an ambiguity disadvantage in SCT results from a bias in the decision-making phase of the task and not in the meaning-activation phase: Behavioral effects of ambiguity disappear when these decision biases are controlled ( Pexman, Hino, & Lupker, 2004 ). The current study used event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine the neural correlates of ambiguity in a task that produced no behavioral ambiguity effect (i.e., SCT with a well-defined decision category). Twenty healthy adults participated. Results showed that despite producing no behavioral effect of ambiguity, ambiguous words were associated with the recruitment of cortical structures implicated in top-down modulation of noisy activity (e.g., left inferior frontal gyrus) when compared to unambiguous words. These results are interpreted as evidence that multiple meanings are activated for ambiguous words in SCT.

Abstract:
This article argues for a new analysis of Rizzi's (1986) Chain Condition effects, which accounts for the absence of such effects in some derivations. Under the proposed analysis, each moved phrase must be unambiguously linkedwith its copy at LF. Otherwise, a lethal ambiguity arises, and the derivation crashes. The syntactic position (address) and the numeration index of an A-movedphrase are usedto link it with its copy. Long A-movement across another DP can arise in two ways: via an EPP-driven derivation that gives rise to a lethal ambiguity, and via a Case-driven derivation that does not.

Abstract:
This paper discusses ambiguity in the context of single-name credit risk. We focus on uncertainty in the default intensity but also discuss uncertainty in the recovery in a fractional recovery of the market value. This approach is a first step towards integrating uncertainty in credit-risky term structure models and can profit from its simplicity. We derive drift conditions in a Heath–Jarrow–Morton forward rate setting in the case of ambiguous default intensity in combination with zero recovery, and in the case of ambiguous fractional recovery of the market value.

Abstract:
Purpose Embracing reflective practice and retrospection, with a goal of identifying commonalities, this paper aims to examine delivery of engineering subjects in both traditional higher education (THE) and technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Design/methodology/approach Reflections on actions and autoethnography were used to examine the teaching and learning experiences of three educators across two higher education (HE) institutions (HEIs) in the greater Chinese context. Literature reviews and historical contexts are outlined to support the approaches and insights identified. Findings This paper presents a number of common characteristics and challenges identified across both THE and TVET. Drawing on the successful embrace of ambiguity and change in recent software engineering (SE) development paradigms, recommendations are made for how the agile SE themes can be applied in a larger sense to address the wider challenges facing both THE and TVET. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time that engineering education has been examined and contrasted in the contexts of THE and TVET. The similarities and common challenges may represent a new focus for related work, and the presented insights, from agile methodologies in SE, represent a new perspective for viewing future HE and TVET sustainability.

Abstract:
AbstractThe difference between first and third person information may be thought of as a difference in either informationalcontentor informationalmodality. Each option faces some problems. I try to sort out some of these issues and raise a question about the explanatory force of the notion of a schema.
