Abstract There are disparate views about the origin of global rift- or plume-related carbonatites. The Amba Dongar carbonatite complex, Gujarat, India, which intruded into the basalts of the Deccan Large Igneous Province (LIP), is a typical example. On the basis of new comprehensive major and trace element and Sr–Nd–Pb isotope data, we propose that low-degree primary carbonated melts from off-center of the Deccan–Réunion mantle plume migrate upwards and metasomatize part of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM). Low-degree partial melting (∼2%) of this metasomatized SCLM source generates a parental carbonated silicate magma, which becomes contaminated with the local Archean basement during its ascent. Calcite globules in a nephelinite from Amba Dongar provide evidence that the carbonatites originated by liquid immiscibility from a parental carbonated silicate magma. Liquid immiscibility at crustal depths produces two chemically distinct, but isotopically similar magmas: the carbonatites (20% by volume) and nephelinites (80% by volume). Owing to their low heat capacity, the carbonatite melts solidified as thin carbonate veins at crustal depths. Secondary melting of these carbonate-rich veins during subsequent rifting generated the carbonatites and ferrocarbonatites now exposed at Amba Dongar. Carbonatites, if formed by liquid immiscibility from carbonated silicate magmas, can inherit a wide range of isotopic signatures that result from crustal contamination of their parental carbonated silicate magmas. In rift or plume-related settings, they can, therefore, display a much larger range of isotope signatures than their original asthenosphere or mantle plume source.

AbstractPyrochlore-group minerals are common accessory rare-metal bearing minerals in the calcite and ankerite carbonatites of the Amba Dongar complex (India). Pyrochlore from the Amba Dongar carbonatites differs from that in other Indian complexes in Ta, Zr, Ti, rare earth element (REE) and Pb contents, but is similar with respect to Ca, Ba and Sr abundances. The evolution of pyrochlore composition was studied to understand the alteration processes and the formation of late-stage pyrochlores enriched in REE and Pb. The early magmatic pyrochlore are calcio- and niobium-dominant types and were replaced by secondary cation-deficient varieties as a consequence of the action of hydrothermal fluids and supergene weathering. These processes produce changes mainly at the A site, rarely at the B site, and the original F is replaced by OH– groups. Calcium and Na can be extracted from the structure at the alteration stage and charge balance is achieved by the introduction of REE, Th, U, Ba or Sr. At the latest supergene stages, marginal and fractured zones of pyrochlore grains are altered to Pb-rich, Si-rich and cation-deficient hydrated varieties. The magmatic pyrochlore was crystallised in a highly alkaline environment at a high activity of Ca and at temperatures near 600°C, the alteration of pyrochlore began in a hydrothermal environment at temperatures below 350°C. The major compositional changes that are associated with the alteration are summarised by the following reactions: Ca2+ + Nb5+→ REE3+ + Ti4+; Nb5+ + Fe3+ → Ti4+ + Zr4+; and 2Nb5+ + Ca2+ → Ti4+ + Si4+ + U4+.

Abstract:

Abstract The Amba Dongar carbonatite complex in western India comprises an inner ring of carbonatite breccia surrounded by a sövite ring dike. The various carbonatite units in the body include calcite carbonatite, alvikite, dolomite carbonatite, and ankerite carbonatite. The carbonate phases (calcite and ankerite) occur as phenocrysts, groundmass phases, fresh primary grains, and partially altered grains and/or pseudomorphs when hydrothermally overprinted. Rare earth element (REE) enrichment in the groundmass/altered calcite grains compared to the magmatic ones is ascribed to the presence of micron-sized REE phases. Fluorapatite and pyrochlore constitute important accessory phases that are altered to variable extents. Higher concentrations of Sr, Si, and REEs in fluorapatite are suggestive of a magmatic origin. Fresh pyrochlore preserves its magmatic composition, characterized by low A-site vacancy and high F in the Y-site, which on alteration becomes poorer in Na, Ca, and F and displays an increase in vacancy. The C-O isotope compositions of the carbonates also corroborate the extensive low-temperature hydrothermal alteration of the carbonatites. The REE mineralization is the result of interaction of the carbonatite with a sulfur-bearing, F-rich hydrothermal fluid that exsolved from late-stage carbonatitic magmas. The hydrothermal fluids caused dissolution of the primary carbonates and simultaneous precipitation of REEs and other high field strength element (HFSE)-bearing minerals. Complex spatial associations of the magmatic minerals with the REE fluorocarbonates, [synchysite-(Ce), parisite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(Ce)] and florencite-(Ce) point to the formation of these REE phases as a consequence of postmagmatic hydrothermal dissolution of the REEs from fluorapatite, pyrochlore, and carbonates. Ubiquitous association of fluorite and barite with REE minerals indicates transport of REEs as sulfate complexes in F-rich fluids. Precipitation of REE fluorocarbonates/florencite resulted from fluid-carbonate interaction, concomitant increase in pH, and decrease in temperature. Additionally, REE precipitation was aided and abetted by the removal of sulfur from the fluid by the precipitation of barite, which destabilized the REE sulfate complexes.

Abstract:

AbstractCarbonatites are carbonate-rich rocks of igneous origin. They form the magmas of their own that are generated in the deep mantle by low degrees of partial melting of carbonated peridotite or eclogite source rocks. They are known to occur since the Archaean times till recent, the activity showing gradual increase from older to younger times. They are commonly associated with alkaline rocks and be genetically related with them. They often induce metasomatic alteration in the country rocks forming an aureole of fenitization around them. They are host for economically important mineral deposits including rare metals and REE. They are commonly associated with the continental rifts, but are also common in the orogenic belts; but not known to occur in the intra-plate regions. The carbonatites are known to occur all over the globe, majority of the occurrences located in Africa, Fenno-Scandinavia, Karelian-Kola, Mongolia, China, Australia, South America and India. In the Indian Subcontinent carbonatites occur in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka; but so far not known to occur in Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. This paper takes an overview of the carbonatite occurrences in the Indian Subcontinent in the light of recent data. The localities being discussed in detail cover a considerable time range (>2400 Ma to <0.6 Ma) from India (Hogenakal, Newania, Sevathur, Sung Valley, Sarnu-Dandali and Mundwara, and Amba Dongar), Pakistan (Permian Koga and Tertiary Pehsawar Plain Alkaline Complex which includes Loe Shilman, Sillai Patti, Jambil and Jawar), Afghanistan (Khanneshin) and Sri Lanka (Eppawala). This review provide the comprehensive information about geochemical characteristics and evolution of carbonatites in Indian Subcontinent with respect to space and time.

Abstract:

En Argentina, la mayoría de las universidades tienen deficiencia de material cadavérico. Medicina y Odontología son las carreras que utilizan cuerpos en forma regular para la docencia-aprendizaje de la Anatomía. Este hecho ha motivado una consideración particular dentro de nuestro estudio para establecer la actitud de diferentes grupos de población respecto a la donación de cuerpos. Nuestro objetivo es evidenciar las diferencias que observamos entre los profesionales egresados de las dos carreras como participantes fundamentales para implementar un programa de donación. Estudio transversal cualitativo y relacional, basado en encuestas anónimas con respuestas de múltiples opciones y semi-estructuradas, receptadas al azar a médicos y odontólogos. El cuestionario incluyó datos demográficos y otros vinculados a la importancia de los cuerpos para docencia e investigación y la voluntad de donar. Hubo diferencias en la voluntad de donar entre los encuestados de ambas profesiones. No se evidenciaron diferencias entre los dos grupos por sexo, origen geográfico, religión o práctica quirúrgica en su profesión. Si se evidenciaron diferencias significativas dependiendo de la especialidad, la importancia que se le asigna al cadáver para la docencia-aprendizaje de la Anatomía, la actitud hacia la donación de órganos para trasplante y el conocimiento previo sobre la posibilidad de donar el cuerpo. Los médicos muestran mayor tendencia a donar independientemente de la especialidad, porque consideran que los cuerpos son fundamentales para la enseñanza-aprendizaje de la Anatomía y tienen mayor conocimiento sobre donación; lo que influye tanto en la donación de órganos como del cuerpo completo.

Objetivo: Determinar los conocimientos y actitudes hacia la donación voluntaria de sangre que tienen los estudiantes de Enfermería y Medicina de una universidad pública, 2018. Material y Métodos: investigación aplicada, con enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo-comparativo, transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 59 estudiantes de Enfermería y 64 estudiantes de Medicina. Se empleó como técnica la encuesta y como instrumentos un cuestionario para conocimientos y una escala tipo Likert modificada para actitudes, previo consentimiento informado. Resultados: El 86% de los estudiantes de Enfermería y el 88% de Medicina tienen conocimientos acerca de la donación voluntaria de sangre; el 63% de estudiantes de Enfermería y el 59% de medicina no conocen los requisitos para donar sangre como la edad, el peso, intervalo de donación, entre otros; el 70-69% de estudiantes de ambas facultades conoce el procedimiento que se realiza como la cantidad de sangre que se debe donar, contraindicaciones, la importancia, lugares de donación; referente a la actitud que presentan hacia la donación de sangre el 65% de estudiantes de medicina y el 56% de enfermería manifiestan una actitud de aceptación mientras que el 27% y 42% de estudiantes de medicina y enfermería mostraron una actitud de indiferencia constituyéndose en un nudo crítico, que debe ser abordado por los profesionales de la salud diseñando estrategias que permitan generar una cultura de la donación en la población en general. Conclusiones: La mayoría de los estudiantes de enfermería y medicina tienen conocimientos sobre la donación de sangre y el procedimiento que se aplica, sin embargo, la mayoría desconoce los requisitos que se necesita para donar; respecto a la actitud la mayoría de los estudiantes muestran aceptación, y otro grupo minoritario indiferencia.

Objetivo: Determinar el efecto de la pasteurización y congelación en el contenido de IgA1 e IgA2 en la leche materna. Métodos: Estudio observacional y retrospectivo, llevado a cabo en mujeres que tuvieran más de 30 días de ofrecer lactancia a su neonato, y pudieran donar 50 mL de leche. Se determinó la concentración de IgA1 e IgA2 mediante turbidimetría, antes y después de someterse a pasteurización y congelación, cada 15 días durante 2 meses. La congelación fue a –20°C. Se encontró un contenido total de IgA de 1598,5 mg/dL. Resultados: Se seleccionaron 10 donantes de leche materna. La concentración inicial de IgA1 e IA2 fue de 651 y 945.7 mg/dL, respectivamente; al finalizar los tiempos de congelación disminuyó el contenido de ambas inmunoglobulinas: IgA1 del 74% e IgA2 del 86%. Después de los tratamientos, el contenido de inmunoglobulinas disminuyó de forma contundente, con diferencia significativa de p < 0.05. Conclusión: La pasteurización y la congelación afectan de manera importante el contenido de IgA1 e IgA en la leche materna; por tanto, la alimentación al seno materno sigue siendo la mejor forma de ofrecer toda protección inmunológica al lactante. Abstract:

Objetivo: Explorar opiniones de pacientes que han acudido a técnicas de reproducción asistida (TRA) complejas, respecto a la donación de gametos y embriones, así como las razones para hacerlo o no. Diseño: Estudio transversal de bioética descriptiva, con metodología cualitativa etnográfica, mediante entrevista semiestructurada, aplicando análisis del discurso al texto resultante. Lugar: Clínica privada, en Lima, Perú. Participantes: Veinte mujeres y 12 hombres, quienes habían acudido por lo menos a una TRA compleja. Intervenciones: Entrevista semiestructurada, aplicando análisis del discurso al texto resultante. Principales medidas de resultados: Opinión sobre donación de gametos y embriones. Resultados: Respecto a la donación de embriones, 11 de los hombres los donarían con fines de terapia de fertilidad, 6 con fines de investigación y solamente uno rechazó ambas posibilidades de donación. Las 20 mujeres entrevistadas, por su parte, los donarían para terapia de fertilidad y 8 de ellas con fines de investigación. Los participantes que han aceptado gametos donados, no necesariamente piensan que donarían los propios en caso de poder hacerlo. Conclusiones: La donación de gametos es más comentada y generalmente aceptada; la donación de embriones es un tema menos discutido y más conflictivo, tanto para donar como para aceptar. La criopreservación es un tema complejo, comentado pero también conflictivo, cuya aceptación o no, así como el destino de los embriones probablemente criopreservados, depende de las concepciones que se tiene respecto al origen de la vida, la ética personal, entre otros. Se puede plantear una hipótesis, a ser verificada en estudios cuantitativos, de que la donación de embriones podría efectuarse, principalmente, para terapia de fertilidad y excepcionalmente con fines de investigación.
