Abstract:
Alternative tourism and ecotourism find their relevance in changing travel patterns in the next normal era. Both enable tourism trips that have a positive impact on the growth of the quality of life of tourists and hosts, as well as the quality of the environment and cultural conservation that are the destinations of travel. Ecotourism is a way for alternative tourism to be increasingly recognized and become the answer, when tourist travel turns to a small scale, considering the capacity of tourist destinations and the welfare of local communities. This article is based on qualitative data obtained through interviews and in-depth observations related to the implementation of alternative tourism managed by local communities as well as Forest Conservation Groups in ecotourism destinations in Mendiro Hamlet, Panglungan Village, Wonosalam District, Jombang Regency, East Java Province. Wonosalam is not only known for its durian commodities but has many springs, conservation forests, and Biodiversity Parks. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of alternative tourism in Wonosalam. This study concludes that the concept of alternative tourism finds its relevance to ecotourism practices in Wonosalam through observation of springs, jungle tracking, river crossings, birdwatching which is done on a small scale, and the attraction of tourist villages located on the border of conservation forests. The ownership and management of this tourist village are entirely local.

Abstract:
This paper presents the development of tourism market through the alternative forms of tourism. Origins and main definitions are presented followed by an analysis of the complexity of classifying the alternative forms of tourism. It is about developing new forms of sustainable tourism that integrate local populations and both natural and human environments of host countries. Ecotourism, cultural tourism and creative tourism support a different philosophy of tourism. Ecotourism in recent years encloses many tourism forms focused on natural environment. In the concept of alternative tourism, the dynamic growth of cultural tourism can be explained by the fast growth of demand for trips to various cultural attractions and amenities. Τhe increase of educated population around the world, the globalization and technology supported this growth. Cultural tourist, from consumer is transforming to producer of the cultural products and experiences. Since this type of tourist becomes more interactive and creative, cultural tourism needs to be repositioned and become more “creative” too. In this way, the present article provides a simplified approach of the new “alternative” tourism development and distinguishes the current trends in tourism market.

Abstract:
PurposeThe study aims to explore the possibility of redefining success in tourism and measuring such a phenomenon by considering alternatives to economic factors, and to identify the ways such measurement could be implemented.Design/methodology/approachThe study reviews and explains current approaches to defining and measuring success in tourism in the literature, followed by identification of alternative factors which could be measured and the implications of such a change in approach.FindingsThere has been a long-standing emphasis and priority placed on measuring tourism at the national level with a focus on economic criteria, and this has been followed at regional and local levels. The result has been that success has become equated with volume, supporting the aim of continued growth in tourism. Such an approach and attitude mitigate against achieving or moving towards sustainability, and other measures are needed to avoid problems such as overtourism.Originality/valueThere has been little discussion of moving to a wider range of indicators of success in tourism, and the previous focus has been on economic criteria and competitiveness as shown by tourist numbers. This paper presents a discussion of an alternative approach, showing that tourism stakeholders from national to local levels need to redefine success as including factors such as community and environmental well-being and focus on a wider concept of success. Using existing data and organisations would enable measuring such concepts to be done without major change or greatly increased costs to agencies.

Sustainability is a topic that is currently being discussed and constantly adapting, since it is related not only to an ecologically correct posture and strategy but also economically viable and socially equitable. Therefore, the importance given by the media to the theme of ecology, sustainability has led to a growing concern among the population. In this context, slow tourism is based on the concept of speed. It involves traveling for a prolonged period at a slow pace, allowing the tourist a deep, authentic, and cultural experience. Baduy Tribe Village is one of the famous tourist destinations in the Lebak Regency. As a major tourist destination, the number of tourists visiting the Baduy Tribe Village is still far from expectations. That is because the tourism marketing strategy is still not optimal by the Regional Government of Lebak Regency. This research uses a qualitative method approach by utilizing the literature review and previous experience. Corfu following the 4s model of tourism development records negative effects which combined with increased environmental sensitivity result in the search for alternative forms of tourism. Cultural tourism based can emerge as an alternative tourism carrying capacity model. The development of the conditions of cultural tourism has not been sufficiently studied for its island destinations. The development of cultural tourism can have the effect of increasing tourism revenues and improving the standard of living in mature tourist destinations such as Corfu. Tourism policy and destination marketing should be devoted into an alternative model of cultural tourism. This article examines a possible correlation between cultural tourism and accessibility, the sun - sea, attractions and sights. Key findings of the present study are that cultural tourism is strongly related with attractions and sights. In addition, there is a relatively small correlation between cultural tourism and accessibility. These research findings can help decision makers, the regional authority, the municipal authority, entrepreneurs involved, and any interested party related to tourism policies and destination marketing understand some of the conditions required for the development of cultural tourism.

Abstract:
Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. San Antonio is one of the Texas’ top tourist cities and a major tourism destination nationally. The city has a rich and unique historic urban landscape characterized by its river with its famous “Riverwalk,” historic neighborhoods, and major landmarks such as San Antonio Franciscan Missions which are on the U.S. “tentative list” as possible UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Local government has completed a multiyear project to restore and enhance 13 miles of the San Antonio River both north and south of downtown. It is expected that the river improvement project will reinforce the connection to the San Antonio Missions and encourage visitors to circulate along the river beyond the downtown area. Master of Architecture students of The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) explored the sustainable tourism alternatives in the Mission Historic District in the spring semesters of 2012 and 2013. The Advanced Design Studio (ARC 6136) focused on research-based exploration and application of advanced design theory relative to alternative tourism. This course discussed the relationships between the design of architecture, tourist city, and the alternative practices of tourism. Students investigated the tourism potentials in the District such as sustainable tourism, rural tourism, recreational tourism, cultural heritage tourism, and culinary tourism, and develop master plans for the selected sites. Students were expected to plan, program, and design the proposed tourism activities and tourist spaces on both urban and building scales. This paper focuses specifically on culinary tourism, cultural heritage tourism, and rural tourism, and discusses how to enhance the attractiveness of the destination for visitors and residents; expand the tourism activities offered; and provide maximum efficiency in the economical, historical, social, and cultural dimensions of tourism through sustainable development practices and proposed design projects.

The article considers promising areas of green tourism development in Vinnytsia region. Describes a number of extremely unique and interesting objects that are little known to tourists. These include the «Illinets astroblem» ˗ craters at the site of a meteorite fall 400 million years ago. The crater is located between the villages of Ivanky, Lypovets district and Luhovo, Illinets district. They arose as a result of the fall to Earth of a cosmic body with an approximate weight of 40 million tons. The diameter of the meteorite is about 230 - 300 m. At the time of the fall, the meteorite was divided into 3 parts. As a result, 13 craters appeared. The largest of them have diameters of 7-10 km. According to experts, the initial depth of the largest crater was about 800 m. The local places are witnesses of a unique phenomenon of planetary scale and are interesting for the tourist business. There are no analogues to Ilyinets Crater in the world. The problems of exhaustion of traditional energy sources are analyzed, and in this connection the inevitable increase in their price. The necessity of wide introduction of alternative energy in the field of green rural tourism is proved. The use of autonomous, network and hybrid solar semiconductor power plants is. promising. Grid-connected solar power plants as an object of solar energy can be used both to generate electricity for household consumption and for the purpose of further sale to the national grid at a green tariff. It is shown that the introduction of solar energy by tourism businesses significantly increases their profits and competitiveness, reduces electricity costs, significantly improves the quality of services, increases the level of tourist service in rural areas. The need for state support and investment for the development of renewable energy sources in rural areas and green rural tourism is substantiated.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to tackle the issue of the meaning of tourism as it is being crippled by the economic crisis in Greece. Design/methodology/approach To do so, it brings together the findings of three different fieldworks related to tourism in Athens in times of crisis. Each one of these focuses on a specific player of tourism: a linguistic and semiological analysis led mainly on travel guides and ad campaigns deals with the industry of tourism; a linguistic analysis of tourists’ posts on a French web forum deals with the tourists themselves; and an ethnographical approach of alternative guided tours of Athens focuses on local players (associations and cooperatives offering out of the beaten tracks tours). Findings The whole study reveals that there is a misunderstanding between the industry and the consumers toward what the tourist practice should mean: whereas the tourists are in search of an ethical meaning, the industry claims there is no room for such issues. The alternative players, however, offer a political perspective that embraces the ethical issues raised by tourists. Originality/value They thus might, in the end, show us the way a so-called “civil society” could also have its own role to perform in tourism.

Abstract:
Purpose The impact of destination reputation on tourists’ behavior has not received sufficient attention in the tourism literature. Built upon the signaling theory and the well-documented stimulus-organism-response framework, the purpose of this paper is to propose and assess a theoretical model that captures relationships among destination reputation, place attachment, tourist satisfaction, and the search for alternative destinations. Design/methodology/approach Using the covariance-based structural equation modeling technique, this study empirically tested the conceptual model with a convenience sample of Chinese tourists who visited a popular coastal urban tourism destination in China. Findings Findings reveal that destination reputation positively impacts perceived place dependence, place identity, and tourist satisfaction. In addition, place dependence positively affects tourist satisfaction, but place identity has no significant impact on tourist satisfaction. As expected, tourist satisfaction negatively influences tourists’ search for alternative destinations; however, place identity positively influences tourists’ search for alternative destinations. Originality/value Few studies in the tourism literature explore the role of destination reputation in the tourist decision-making process. The present study’s unique contribution lies in its examination of destination reputation on tourists’ behavior. In addition, this study includes the search for alternative destinations as an important behavioral outcome into the proposed model. Some tourists explore alternative destinations even though they are willing to revisit and spread positive messages about the destination they already visited. Therefore, the continuous searching behavior is worthy of investigation in tourism studies.

Abstract:
Monkey Forest Ubud is located in the Padang Tegal Village, Ubud District. The area of ????the tourism forest is about 12.5 ha. Tourism activities at Monkey Forest Ubud tend to be mass tourism activities. This study aims to measure the position of the effective carrying capacity of Monkey Forest Ubud based on biotic and abiotic variables, perceptions of tourism actors (tourists and management) towards tourism activities, condition of facilities and infrastructure and management of Monkey Forest Ubud, as well as alternative strategies for the realization of environmental sustainability and tourism. The method used to analyze the carrying capacity of the environment according to Cifuentes, drafting alternative sustainable management strategies for Monkey Forest Ubud with QSPM analysis. The results of the carrying capacity analysis show the ECC of 257 people/day. The average tourist visit in 2010-2019 reached 1,784 people/day, exceeding the ECC value indicates a threat to the biotic and abiotic factors that affect it. Alternative strategies resulting from the QSPM analysis for the realization of sustainable tourism with a score of 4.88 are alternative tourism in the form of educational tours in the Yadnya forest and event procurement in non-forest areas, the second strategy with a score of 4.86 is to maximize the digital marketing function, namely buying tickets online with providing daily visit quotas for tourist restrictions, the third strategy with a score of 4.66 is to increase ticket prices by 50% from normal tickets. The existence of the Ubud Monkey Forest has a positive impact on the social and economic aspects of the Padang Tegal Village community, but environmental sustainability needs to be considered, one of which is the restriction of tourist visits. Abstract:
Rural tourism has come to occupy a prominent position in the debate about rural restructuring in all OECD countries, partly because of demand changes which favour rural tourism and partly because rural agencies recognise a need to provide economic activities with potential for growth in a rural economy in which traditional providers of rural employment (such as agriculture) have been shedding labour at a rapid rate. Well-designed strategy is essential to its success in impacting on the rural economy. The structures for collaboration and co-operation must be developed and combined with a process of education and training. Co-operative effort must be effective and sustainable. The tourism related businesses should not be isolated from the larger community and its issues. The principal motivation for a community, business or region to serve tourists is generally economic. An individual business is interested primarily in its own revenues and costs, while a community or region is concerned with tourism’s overall contribution to the economy, as well as social, fiscal and environmental impacts. A good understanding of tourism’s economic impacts is therefore important for the tourism industry, government officials, and the community as a whole. The principal objective of the study, that is reported here, was to determine the potential income of farmers from the provision of agro-tourism services. First, the paper reviews selected results of the visitor spending survey in alternative types of rural tourism of the region Southeast (Czech Republic); second the direct economic benefit of the agro-tourism in this region is estimated, and finally, critical factors reducing the effectiveness of agro-tourism as a rural development instrument are drawn.

Abstract:
The tourism sector is a complex multidimensional sector, which has an influence over the interrelation of other sectors in tourism activities and now the tourism sector is concerned by the government. Every tourist who will visit the tourist sites must have some consideration. The fact that today is happening is a lot of tourists who are disappointed because the destination is not in accordance with what they want. Seeing that the media campaign that is currently done is still not efficient, so Auto Recommendation System is needed which is capable to do visualized in digital mapping, and the system built can show the automatic recommendation of tourist destinations in accordance with the wishes of tourists. Auto Recommendation System is a system that implements Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method. The results of this research factors other than the value of weight given by tourists, is the value factor owned by each alternative for each criteria, because the higher the value owned by the higher the higher the value of the final ranking obtained by the alternative. The end result of the SAW method is in the form of alternative ranking of existing tourism objects. Based on the results of these rankings the system also produces output in the form of location maps along with detailed information of the tourism object. Religious tourism Sunan Kudus and Sunan Muria became the recommended tourist attraction with first and second priority.

Abstract:
This study aims to see how the condition of the object/Tourist Attraction (TA) in Magelang Regency in Indonesia and its alternative development. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with case studies of 31 tourism objects which will then be investigated regarding their conditions and possible future developments. Research data were obtained by direct observation of the location of tourist objects and through semi-structured interviews. The results of this study illustrate that tourism objects in Magelang Regency are currently quite developed. However, this has not been able to attract general tourists to linger in the regency and provided an optimal contribution to regional income. This is because tourism objects in the regency other than Borobudur Temple have not been maximized for their existence and utilization. The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme model can be an alternative to be applied in developing tourism objects accompanied by an appropriate Value for Money (VfM) analysis. Tourism objects in the form of cultural heritage can be developed through concession contracts, natural beauty can be developed through management contracts, and artificial objects can be developed through service contracts while taking into account the development needs of each tourism object. Local governments need to establish cooperation with the private sector with a Public-Private Partnership scheme accompanied by the preparation of strict regulations so that the implementation of cooperation in the context of developing tourism objects in the Magelang Regency can bring optimal benefits to all parties.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic and the development of emerging technologies have brought new challenges and opportunities to tourism. The tourism sector must rethink its relationship with consumers and leverage emerging technologies for business expansion and transformation. Under this circumstance, providing travelers with an immersive virtual environment to meet their travel needs through virtual reality (VR) technology is considered to be a sustainable way to develop tourism1. In this paper, an online virtual art museum travel platform is built based on VR technology, which allows users to roam in the virtual scene and interact with the objects in the scene from the first-person view. VR tourism that provides a highly realistic environment and user-driven interactive functions is regarded as a potential alternative for real-life tourism2, achieving the immersive roaming in the virtual environment. VR tourism alleviates the contradiction between constrained mobility and increased tourism willingness up against the COVID-19 pandemic, and has positive social significance.
