Abstract:
In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae , the paralogous genes ALT1 and ALT2 have been proposed to encode alanine aminotransferase isozymes. Although in other microorganisms this enzyme constitutes the main pathway for alanine biosynthesis, its role in S. cerevisiae had remained unclear. Results presented in this paper show that under respiratory conditions, Alt1p constitutes the sole pathway for alanine biosynthesis and catabolism, constituting the first example of an alanine aminotransferase that simultaneously carries out both functions. Conversely, under fermentative conditions, it plays a catabolic role and alanine is mainly synthesized through an alternative pathway. It can thus be concluded that ALT1 has functions in alanine biosynthesis and utilization or only alanine utilization under respiratory and fermentative conditions, respectively. ALT2 expression was repressed under all tested conditions, suggesting that Alt2p biosynthesis is strictly controlled and only allowed to express under peculiar physiological conditions.

Abstract:
A series of fluorinated free-base porphyrins (H2TPPF[Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] = 0, 8, 12, 20, 24) and the corresponding aluminum(III) porphyrin (AlTPPF[Formula: see text]-Ph, [Formula: see text] = 0, 8, 12, 20, 24) derivatives have been synthesized and their spectroscopic, redox and optical properties were investigated. The absorption studies show that the spectral shapes of investigated porphyrins are sensitive to the degree of fluorination on the meso-phenyl units. Analogously, the fluorescence quantum yields and singlet-state lifetimes depend on the number of fluorine atoms, and decrease by increasing the number of fluorine atoms. The H2TPPF[Formula: see text] and AlTPPF[Formula: see text]-Ph ([Formula: see text] = 8, 12, 20, 24) derivatives exhibited lower fluorescence intensities compared to the H2TPP and AlTPP, respectively. However, the AlTPPF[Formula: see text]-Ph ([Formula: see text] = 0, 8, 12, 20, 24) derivatives yield relatively a strong fluorescence compared to the well-known ZnTPP. As predicted, the redox potentials are shifted to the more positive side by increasing the fluorine atoms. The Lewis acidity of AlTPPF[Formula: see text]-Ph was quantified by using the absorption and fluorescence titrations with the Lewis base [Formula: see text]-methylimidazole (Me-Im). The titration data suggests that the Lewis acidity of the Al center rises when increasing the number of fluorine atoms on the porphyrin. Together, the high fluorescence quantum yields, high-potentials, unique optical and redox properties suggest that the investigated porphyrins could be potential sensitizers to mimic various components of artificial photosynthetic systems for the production of solar fuels.

The dye-sensitized solar cell using visible and near-infrared sensitization of nanocrystalline TiO 2 films by aluminium phthalocyanine, aluminium 2,9,16,23-tetraphenoxy-29H, 31H-phthalocyanine hydroxide (AlTPPc), was developed and its photoelectrochemical properties were investigated. The short-circuit photocurrent (ISC) was 0.026 mA cm-2, the open-circuit photovoltage ( V OC) was 186 mV, and the fill factor (FF) of solar cell using AlTPPc adsorbed on nanocrystalline TiO 2 film electrode was estimated to be 40.4%, respectively. By using AlTPPc adsorbed on nanocrystalline TiO 2 film electrode, photovoltage and photocurrent were higher compared with that of only nanocrystalline TiO 2 film electrode and were maintained under near-infrared irradiation. Thus, the solar cell using the near-infrared sensitization by AlTPPc adsorbed on nanocrystalline TiO 2 film electrode was developed.

Abstract:
AbstractThe chlorine functionalized dialkynylsilane (4-tBu-C6H4)(Cl)Si(C≡C-tBu)2 (3) reacted with equimolar quantities of H–AltBu2 or H–GatBu2 by hydrometallation of a C≡C triple bond and formation of mixed alkenyl-alkynylsilanes (4 and 5) in which the Si and Lewis acidic metal atoms adopt geminal positions at the α-C atoms of the alkenyl groups. Intramolecular M···Cl interactions (M=Al, Ga) afforded four-membered SiCMCl heterocycles which in comparison with 3 had significantly lengthened Si–Cl bonds. Dual hydrometallation of 3 was only observed for H–GatBu2. One Ga atom of the product (6) was coordinated by the silicon-bound Cl atom, while the second one showed an interaction with the aromatic ring of the tert-butyl-phenyl group. Treatment of the aluminium compound 4 with two equivalents of H–GatBu2 afforded a Si–H bond by Cl-H exchange and release of Cl–AltBu2. The resulting silane (7) has the Si atom and two Ga atoms bridged by the α-C atoms of two vinyl groups. The specific functionality of 4 caused a remarkable reactivity. Phenyl isocyanate reacted by the formal insertion into the Al–C(vinyl) and the activated Si–Cl bonds and resulted in the formation of a C–C bond. The product (8) has a SiC2N heterocycle with an Si–N bond and exocyclic C=C and C=O double bonds. The keto group is coordinated to a Cl–AltBu2 molecule, which was formed by the shift of the Cl atom from silicon to aluminium.

Abstract:
Anaplastic large T-cell lymphoma (ALTCL) is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin T-cell lymphoma that occasionally occurs in the gastrointestinal tract of humans. Enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) type 1 is the most common type of intestinal lymphoma in dogs, and ALTCL has not previously been reported in the intestinal tract of dogs. Thirteen dogs with intestinal masses diagnosed as intestinal lymphoma with anaplastic morphology were reviewed. Clinical data, including treatment protocols, were available for 11 cases. Immunohistochemistry for CD3, CD20, and CD30 was performed for all cases in addition to PCR for Antigen Receptor Rearrangements (PARR) for assessment of clonality. Eight (62%) of the cases presented with intestinal perforation, and all cases had 1 or more masses arising from the small intestine. Histologically, all cases were characterized by transmural infiltrates of large, CD3-positive and frequently CD30-positive cells. Neoplastic T cells had marked anisocytosis and anisokaryosis, prominent nucleoli, and occasionally indented to reniform nuclei. There was abundant necrosis and inflammation with occasional vascular invasion within neoplastic masses. All cases had a monoclonal T-cell receptor γ gene rearrangement. The median survival time was 5 days, with 1 dog surviving 2 years after the initial diagnosis. ALTCL can occur as an aggressive transmural lymphoma in the gastrointestinal tract of dogs and commonly causes intestinal perforation. ALTCL can be differentiated from EATL type 1 and might have implications for accurate prognostication and selection of therapeutic options in the future.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE Separation surgery followed by spine stereotactic radiosurgery (SSRS) has been shown to achieve favorable rates of local tumor control and patient-reported outcomes in patients with metastatic epidural spinal cord compression (MESCC). However, rates and factors associated with adjacent-level tumor progression (ALTP) in this population have not yet been characterized. The present study aimed to identify factors associated with ALTP and examine its association with overall survival (OS) in patients receiving surgery followed by radiosurgery for MESCC. METHODS Thirty-nine patients who underwent separation surgery followed by SSRS for MESCC were identified using a prospectively collected database and were retrospectively reviewed. Radiological measurements were collected from preoperative, postoperative, and post-SSRS MRI. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Kaplan-Meier product-limit method and Cox proportional hazards test. Subgroup analysis was conducted for patients who experienced ALTP into the epidural space (ALTP-E). RESULTS The authors’ cohort included 39 patients with a median OS of 14.7 months (range 2.07–96.3 months). ALTP was observed in 16 patients (41.0%) at a mean of 6.1 ± 5.4 months postradiosurgery, of whom 4 patients (10.3%) experienced ALTP-E. Patients with ALTP had shorter OS (13.0 vs 17.1 months, p = 0.047) compared with those without ALTP. Factors associated with an increased likelihood of ALTP included the amount of bone marrow infiltrated by tumor at the index level, amount of residual epidural disease following separation surgery, and prior receipt of radiotherapy at the index level (p < 0.05). Subgroup analysis revealed that primary tumor type, amount of preoperative epidural disease, time elapsed between surgery and radiosurgery, and prior receipt of radiotherapy at the index level were significantly associated with ALTP-E (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS To the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to identify possible risk factors for ALTP, and they suggest that it may be associated with shorter OS in patients receiving surgery followed by radiosurgery for MESCC. Future studies with higher power should be conducted to further characterize factors associated with ALTP in this population.

Abstract:
The results of estimation of Holstein sires based on milk productivity and reproductive qualities of their daughters are presented .The findings of 563 heifers and 45 bullsfathers were processed.on average, the milk yield of daughters for 1 lactation from different fathers ranged from 6784 to 7789 kg, theee were not found any differences in the content of fat and protein in milk.most producers had a desirable degree of realization of genetic potential. Bulls Altahessel Sex138929389, Altajupiter Sex 66011448 and ClearEc Altar2 62916235mainly contribut to the genetic improvement of the herd, significantly increasing yield of daughters in 305 days of the first lactation from 350 kg to 490 kg compared to the average for the herd. The level of milking cows on the 1st lactation reliably determines their further productivity. Daughters of ClearEc Altar2 had a positive correlation (0.44) between milk yield and protein, and daughters of Bodo bull 354239752 (r0.68) between fat and protein. Daughters with a negative correlation between milk yield and fat were noted, this indicates that the selection of cows by fat content does not provide an increase in protein content in these groups with high milk productivity. The shortest service period (98 days) are typical for daughters of Magikon 536522893, the longest the daughters Dinom Altatyson 66133528 and Short Cut 3504510619.sires, used in farming, realize their potential in a shorter time, which should be taken into account in their further consolidation.

Abstract:
A mechanism of the long-term potentiation of transmitter release induced by adrenaline (ALTP) was studied by recording intracellularly the fast excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fast EPSPs). The ALTP was produced during the blockade of K+ channels at the presynaptic terminals by tetraethylammonium (TEA). The synaptic delay, possibly reflecting a relative change in the duration of an action potential at the presynaptic terminal, was not changed during the course of the ALTP. By contrast, it was significantly lengthened by TEA and other K+ channel inhibitors (4-aminopyridine and Cs+) that markedly enhanced the evoked release of transmitter. The magnitude of facilitation of the fast EPSP, induced by a conditional stimulus to the preganglionic nerve, was decreased during the generation of the ALTP, but was unchanged during the potentiation of transmitter release caused by TEA. These results, together with theoretical considerations applying the residual Ca2+ hypothesis to the facilitation, suggest that the enhancement of transmitter release during the ALTP is not caused by an increased Ca2+ influx during a presynaptic impulse owing to the blockade of K+ channel or the modulation of Ca2+ channel, but presumably is induced by a rise in the basal level of free Ca2+ in the presynaptic terminal.

Abstract:
Recent studies in prostate cancer have identified PACE4, a proprotein convertase enzyme, as an emerging therapeutic target. Inhibition of PACE4-altCT, an oncogenic isoform of PACE4, using molecular or pharmacological approaches results in decreased cell proliferation and tumor progression in xenograft models. Although several validations have confirmed PACE4-altCT as a novel therapeutic target, the transcriptional regulation of PACE4 isoforms and mechanism of action remain a challenge. Previously, it has been reported that the human PACE4 promoter possesses potential binding sites for the E2F family of transcription factors, all of which are involved in cell cycle regulation and synthesis of DNA in mammalian cells. Therefore, we attempted to conduct in-depth evaluation of E2Fs on PACE4 and PACE4 isoform expression in prostate cancer. We conducted in vitro molecular silencing studies in various prostate cancer cell lines and determined the change in PACE4 expression levels. The results clearly show that the E2Fs alone do not alter PACE4 expression.

It is well known that lattice-valued rough sets are important branches of fuzzy rough sets. The axiomatic characterization and related topology are the main research directions of lattice-valued rough sets. For L=(L,⊛), a complete co-residuated lattice (CCRL), Qiao recently defined an L-fuzzy lower approximation operator (LFLAO) on the basis of the L-fuzzy relation. In this article, we give a further study on Qiao’s LFLAO around the axiomatic characterization and induced L-topology. Firstly, we investigate and discuss three new LFLAO generated by ⊛-transitive, ⊛-Euclidean and ⊛-mediated L-fuzzy relations. Secondly, we utilize a single axiom to characterize the LFLAO generated by serial, symmetric, reflexive, ⊛-transitive and ⊛-mediate L-fuzzy relations and their compositions. Thirdly, we present a method to generate Alexandrov L-topology (ALTPO) from LFLAO and construct a bijection between ALTPO and ⊛-preorder (i.e., reflexive and ⊛-transitive L-fuzzy relation) on the same underlying set.

Abstract:
2-Methylketones are organic compounds that are more widely used in the food industry and cosmetics. Some of methylketones found in plants act as pheromones and natural insecticides. Recently, methylketones have been recognized as strong candidates for the production of renewable energy as they possess not only favourable cetane numbers but also lower hydrophilicity and melting points than fatty acids which have been used in biodiesel production. In addition, short chain methylketones have much lower melting points than long chain methylketones. In this study, we cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli C41(DE3) cells a gene for acyl thioesterase 2 (ALT2) isolated from Arabidopsis thaliana. The ALT2 enzyme could hydrolyze 3-ketoacyl-ACP (also called β-ketoacyl-ACP) intermediates in the fatty acid biosynthetic pathway into the corresponding 3-ketoacid. The resulting 3- ketoacids are unstable compounds that will be decarboxylated to produce n-1 methylketones. Methylketones released in the growth medium of E. coli expressing ALT2 were extracted by hexane and analyzed by gas chromatography with the flame ionization detector (GC-FID). The results showed that the E. coli C41(DE3) cells expressing ALT2 recombinantly produced 2-nonanone (9C), 2- undecanone (11C) and 2-tridecanone (13C) in the spent medium when were induced with 0.25 mM IPTG at 37 oC for 3.5 hours.

Abstract:
Abstract ALK-negative anaplastic large T-cell lymphoma (ALK-negative ALTCL) is a rare aggressive disease, constituting 12% of all T-cell lymphomas of adults. When using CHOP/CHOEP chemotherapy overall and event-free survival is less than 50%. Factors of poor prognosis include IPI (3-5), CNS and skin involvement as well as molecular predictors. The aim of current study was to detect rearrangements (R) of DUSP22 gene, t(6;7)(p25.3;q32.3), inv(3)(q26q28), involving TP63 gene using fluorescence in situ hybridization and ТР63 mutation by Sanger sequencing. 23 patients with ALK-negative ALTCL were involved in current study: 14 males, 9 females. Advanced stage of disease was diagnosed in 70 % of patients. All patients were treated with high-dose chemotherapy. In 20% of patients were revealed DUSP22-R, 13% - TP63 abnormalities, 67% of patients were triple-negative (without ALK-R, DUSP22-R, TP63-R). There weren't detected any mutations in DNA-binding domain of TP63 gene. Comparing data of molecular studies and clinical data it was revealed that presence or absence of above-mentioned gene rearrangements did not affect disease stage: III stage was diagnosed in 30% of cases with DUSP22-R and in 33% of triple-negative cases, IV stage in 100% cases with TP63-R, in 67% with DUSP22-R, in 40% with triple-negative variant. Majority of patients had IPI (3-5) in all three cytogenetic groups. In 100% of cases with DUSP22-Rwere revealed more than 2 extranodal site of involvement. Overall (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) depending on molecular profile were 100% and 100%, respectively, in case with DUSP22-R. In case of TP63-R OS and PFS were 8% and 10%, respectively, in triple-negative cases - 60% and 39%, respectively. Thus, detection of DUSP22, TP63 gene rearrangements has great practical value in ALK-negative ALTCL. Statistical significance should be confirmed by further study. Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose was to explore the application effect of anterolateral thigh perforator flap (ALTP) and pectoralis major myocutaneous flap on repairing the tissuedefects after oral cancer surgery. Methods: 100 oral cancer patients treated in our hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were selected as the research objects. After both groups of patients received extended resection of tumors, neck lymph node dissection and other routine treatment, the control group was repaired by pectoralis major myocutaneous flap while the study group was repaired by ALTP to compare the flap survival rate, language, masticatory function and other related indicators between the two groups. Results: The flap harvesting time and defect repair time in the control group were shorter than those in the study group (P<0.05); The language, masticatory function and swallowing function in both groups after treatment were significantly better than those before treatment (P<0.05); The total incidence of complications in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05); After treatment, the quality of life scores in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion: Both ALTP and pectoralis major myocutaneous flap can be used to repair the tissue defects after radical resection of oral cancer, which can effective improve the postoperative appearance, language and masticatory function of oral cancer patients. However, pectoralis major myocutaneous flap has easier operation and shorter operation time while ALTP can significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative complications with higher safety.

Abstract:
AbstractThe anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap has been extensively discussed in the literature as it allows for a wide variety and depth of tissues for complex wound coverage. Thanks to many cadaveric and angiographic studies of the subdermal plexus, it is to date ascertained that tailoring ALT thickness can be safely performed without compromising flap outcomes or causing additional morbidity. Recently, the authors applied and described a simpler, safer, and less time-consuming superthin ALT perforator (ALTP) free flap harvesting technique. The aim of this article is to show the versatility of the adipofascial flap harvested around the chosen perforators, which allowed us to safely expand the usage of ALTP superthin flaps.

Abstract:
The di(tert-butyl)aluminum halides, tBu2AlX (X = Br, I) have been prepared in yields ranging from 55 to 64% from AlX3 and LitBu in a 1 : 2 molar ratio in pentane. In the crystal these pyrophoric compounds are dimeric featuring Al-X-Al bridges. The reaction of AlCl3 with LitBu in diethyl ether produced a volatile solvate of composition tBu3Al-Cl-AltBu2(OEt2). Reaction of this species with AlCl3 at 120 ◦C yielded a separable mixture of tBu2AlCl and tBu2AlCl(OEt2). tBu2AlCl and tBu2GaCl react with tBu2PLi to produce the monomeric compounds tBu2E-PtBu2 (E = Al, Ga). The aluminum compound decomposes at 111 °C to give a mixture of the cis/trans-isomers of [tBu(H)Al- PtBu2]2 while at 200 °C only the trans-isomer is formed.

Abstract:
The IP-CAM plays a major role in the context of digital video surveillance systems. The function of face detection can add extra value and can contribute towards an intelligent video surveillance system. The cascaded AdaBoost-based face detection system proposed by Viola can support real-time detection with a high detection rate. The performance of the Alt2 cascade (from OpenCV) in an IP-CAM video is worse than that with regard to static images because the training data set in the Alt2 cannot consider the localized characters in the special IP-CAM video. Therefore, this study presents an enhanced training method using the Adaboost algorithm which is capable of obtaining the localized sampling optimum (LSO) from a local IP-CAM video. In addition, we use an improved motion detection algorithm that cooperates with the former face detector to speed up processing time and achieve a better detection rate on video-rate processing speed. The proposed solution has been developed around the cascaded AdaBoost approach, using the open-CV library, with a LSO from a local IP-CAM video. An efficient motion detection model is adopted for practical applications. The overall system performance using 30% local samples can be improved to a 97.9% detection rate and reduce detection time by 54.5% with regard to the Alt2 cascade.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND The free anterolateral thigh (ALTP) and free medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flaps are time tested donor for head and neck, and extremities defect reconstruction. Proponents of either flap have concluded each as workhorse flap in their large cohort studies. However, we could not find any literature comparing the donor morbidities, or recipient site outcomes of these flaps, objectively. METHODS Retrospective data, such as demographic details, flap characteristics and post operative course, from patients who underwent free thinned ALTP (25 patients) and MSAP flap (20 patients) were included. At follow-up, donor site morbidity and recipient site outcomes were assessed, using previously defined protocols. These were compared in-between the two groups. RESULTS Free thinned ALTP (tALTP) flap had significantly more pedicle length and vessel diameter and harvest time than free MSAP flap (p value<.00). The differences in incidence of hyperpigmentation, itching, hypertrophic scar, numbness, sensory impairment and cold intolerance at the donor site in-between the two groups, were not significant statistically. Scar at free MSAP donor site was considered a significant social stigma (p value=.005). Recipient site cosmetic outcome was comparable (p value=.86), measured using aesthetic numeric analogue. CONCLUSIONS The free tALTP flap is superior to free MSAP flap in terms of pedicle length, vessel diameter, donor site morbidity, while the latter takes lesser time for harvest.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Perforator imaging is routinely performed before perforator flap harvest. Hand-held Doppler (hhD) and color duplex ultrasonography (CDU) are currently the most popular radiation-free methods for this purpose that can be applied by the surgeon alone. The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy, reliability, and feasibility of hhD and CDU with indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) in the anterolateral thigh perforator flap (ALTPF). Methods All consecutive ALTPF procedures between May 2017 and April 2018 were included in this prospective study. The perforators were visualized by three investigators independently and randomized, applying hhD, CDU, and ICGA. The presence and the distance to the identified perforator were registered. Further, body mass index (BMI), American Society of Anesthesiologists-status, and the patient's history regarding smoking, alcohol use, and diabetes mellitus were registered alongside gender and age to analyze possible confounders. Results A total of 12 patients were enrolled with a median age of 67 (52–87) years. In total, 30 perforators were detected intraoperatively as well as with the ICGA. The latter visualized the perforators significantly more precisely than hhD and CDU (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001). The sensitivity and positive predictive value were 67 and 62% for hhD, 73 and 64% for CDU, and 100 and 100% for ICGA, respectively. Conclusion According to this study, ICGA visualized perforators more accurately than the standard methods hhD and CDU. Further, it was associated with the highest sensitivity and positive predictive value. ICGA consistently delivered excellent results, whereas hhD and CDU showed variability.

Abstract:
The lower peak lactate accumulation in blood ([La(b)]p) at altitude may be associated with a reduced maximal glycolytic flux. Based on certain assumptions, the latter can be indirectly evaluated in vivo, during short supramaximal exercises, by measuring the maximal rate of lactate accumulation in blood (delta [La(b)]max). delta [La(b)]max was determined on six white subjects at sea level (SL1), after approximately 1 wk (Alt1) and 4 wk (Alt2) of a 35-day sojourn at 5,050 m, and 1 wk after return to sea level (SL2). The subjects performed exercises of increasing duration (5, 15, 25, 35, 45 s or until exhaustion) on a bicycle ergometer at loads = 200% of the individual Wmax. The latter was previously determined in each condition as the greatest work rate that could be sustained for 2–4 min during an incremental exercise. Net [La(b)] accumulation (delta [La(b)]) was measured after each exercise bout. delta [La(b)] resulted to be linearly related to exercise duration. The slopes of the individual delta [La(b)] vs. exercise duration lines were taken as delta [La(b)]max. Exhaustion times were approximately 30–45 s in all conditions. [La(b)]p (in mM) during recovery after the exhaustive load was higher at SL1 (10.22 +/- 1.09; means +/- SD) than at Alt1 (5.08 +/- 0.82), Alt2 (8.13 +/- 2.67), and SL2 (8.18 +/- 1.43). delta [La(b)]max was lower at Alt1 (0.09 +/- 0.02) and at Alt2 (0.17 +/- 0.05) than at SL1 (0.25 +/- 0.05) and SL2 (0.23 +/- 0.06). Both [La(b)]p and delta [La(b)]max increased during acclimatization.

The aim: Introduction of advanced-level training cycles (ALTC) in the form of online mode distance education on actual questions of infectology and the evaluation of their effectiveness in the postgraduate training of doctors. Giving ALTC in the form of online mode distance education (full, partial) on the actual questions of infectology is based on phasing and systemity of ongoing project and should include five basic steps: defining the aim of the project and the participants of its implementation, delivering information resources and development of electronic versions of educational and resource materials, contractual process with the customer, Internet Service Provider and technical testing of telecommunication systems, the direct holding of distance cycle, expert evaluation of the quality of distance learning. Implementation of online mode distance learning assumes the use of modern information and telecommunication resources, interactive technologies, clear organizational and administrative decisions, professionalism of teachers, the interaction of all the participants in the educational process (including doctors pariticipants) and should be completed with the resulting expertise.

Abstract:
Background: Durable bonding between resin composite luting agents (CLA) and zirconia is still a matter of controversy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of water storage on hardness and interfacial strength of three CLA, a non-adhesive (Multilink Automix/ML), an adhesive (Panavia F 2.0/PF) and a self-adhesive (PermaCem 2.0/PC), bonded to polished (CL) and grit-blasted (AL: 50 μm alumina, SJ: Sil-Jet + Monobond Plus silane) monolithic zirconia surfaces. Methods: CLA specimens (n = 5/cement, condition) were prepared, stored under dry conditions or immersed in water, and Vickers hardness (VH) measurements were obtained at 1 h, 24 h, 1 week and 3 weeks intervals. Optical profilometry was used to determine the roughness parameters (Sa, Sz, Sdr, Sci) of zirconia surfaces (n = 5/treatment). A shear strength test (SBS, n = 10 × 2/cement) was performed to assess the strength and fractography of the cements bonded to zirconia after isothermal water storage and thermal-cycling (TC). Results: PF demonstrated significantly lower VHN after water storage at all time intervals, PC at 1 w, 3 w and ML at 3 w. SJ and AL showed significantly higher values from CL in all roughness parameters. Weibull analysis revealed the following significance in σο ranking within the same material: AL, SJ, ALTC > SJTC, CL > CLTC (PF); SJ, SJTC, AL, ALTC > CL, CLTC (PC) and SJ, SJTC > AL > ALTC > CL, CLTC (ML). Within the same surface treatment subgroups, the significance in σo ranking was PC, ML > PF (before/after TC) for SJ; PC > PF > ML (before TC), PC, PF > ML (after TC) for AL, and PC > PF > ML (before/after TC) for CL. For the m ranking, the only significant difference within each material group was found in PC (AL > ALTC) and for the same surface treatment in AL (PC > ML). Conclusion: There are significant differences in the water plasticization susceptibility of the CLA tested; the materials with adhesive monomers were the most affected. Tribo-chemical silica coating combined with a silane coupling agent was the most efficient bonding treatment for the non-adhesive and the self-adhesive materials. The adhesive CLA performed better on alumina-blasted than on tribo-chemically coated surfaces.

Abstract:
AbstractTreatment of the Al/P-based frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) Mes2P–C(AltBu2)=C(H)-Ph (1) with benzophenone afforded the simple 1:1 adduct (4) with a O=CPh2 molecule coordinated to the aluminum atom by an Al←O donor-acceptor bond. Steric repulsion may prevent an interaction between the electrophilic carbonyl carbon atom and the Lewis-basic phosphorus atom. 4 is unstable in solution at room temperature, the coordination to aluminium increases the polarisation of the carbonyl group and favours its reduction. As suggested by quantum chemical calculations, a C–H bond of a tBu group approaches the electrophilic center and facilitates β-hydride elimination with the release of isobutene and the formation of an Al–OCHPh2 ligation. An intact O=CPh2 molecule completes the coordination sphere of the metal atom (5). The second tBu group at aluminium reacts similarly by the selective formation of an Al(OCHPh2)2 moiety (6). The thermodynamics of adduct formation and the mechanism of the hydride shift have been evaluated by quantum chemical DFT calculations.

Abstract:
This article explores a project at the Koori Centre, University of Sydney, funded by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) in 2011, titled ‘Indigenous On-Line Cultural Teaching and Sharing’. One of the team members (Kutay) was also a project team member on the ALTC-funded project ‘Exploring PBL in Indigenous Australian Studies’, which has developed a teaching and learning process (PEARL) for Indigenous Australian studies. In this article, we present the ‘Indigenous On-Line Cultural Teaching and Sharing’ project as an exemplar of this teaching process. The project turns a highly successful interactive kinship workshop into an interactive online experience for all students and staff of the University of Sydney. The project is developing a sharing portal for Aboriginal people in New South Wales (NSW) to incorporate their stories and experiences of cultural, historical and educational issues within a knowledge-sharing workshop. The site will use voices of Aboriginal participants to express the knowledge of their culture in a comparative and affirmative context. An interface for uploading audio and video has been generated to combine example stories from different perspectives. The interactive kinship workshop and Aboriginal voices will then be used in an online game, embedding Aboriginal knowledge and values within different professional learning contexts, such as law, social policy, health, and education.

Abstract:
SUMMARYIn order to solve joint-angle drift problem of dual redundant manipulators at acceleration-level, an acceleration-level tri-criteria optimization motion planning (ALTC-OMP) scheme is proposed, which combines the minimum acceleration norm, repetitive motion planning, and infinity-norm acceleration minimization solutions via weighting factor. This scheme can resolve the joint-angle drift problem of dual redundant manipulators which will arise in single criteria or bi-criteria scheme. In addition, the proposed scheme considers joint-velocity joint-acceleration physical limits. The proposed scheme can not only guarantee joint-velocity and joint-acceleration within their physical limits, but also ensure that final joint-velocity and joint-acceleration are near to zero. This scheme is realized by dual redundant manipulators which consist of left and right manipulators. In order to ensure the coordinated operation of manipulators, two motion planning problems are reformulated as two general quadratic program (QP) problems and further unified into one standard QP problem, which is solved by a simplified linear-variational-inequalities-based primal-dual neural network at the acceleration-level. Computer-simulation results based on dual PUMA560 redundant manipulators further demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed ALTC-OMP scheme to resolve joint-angle drift problem arising in the dual redundant manipulators.

Abstract:
A mechanism for the combustion synthesis of TiC+Al2O3 was proposed in a mechanically activated TiO2-Al-C system. As-milled powder mixture was analyzed using XRD and TEM techniques where no chemical reaction and/or inter-particle diffusion were identified. The results obtained from DTA tests on unmilled powder revealed that the combustion synthesis occurred in a single step at 962 °C while the synthesis of mechanically activated powder mixture occurred in three different stages. The XRD analysis on the synthesized samples of 8 hour premilled powder at different temperatures showed that the three stages were as follows: First the reaction between Al and TiO2 takes place forming Al3Ti, Ti2O3, and Al2O3 at 700 °C. In the second step, Ti-rich titanium aluminides (AlTi, AlTi2, and AlTi3) and TiO, are formed at 923 °C, and finally the formation of TiC+Al2O3 is completed at 1329 °C.

Abstract:
This work trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to identify microstructure characteristics and then provide a measurement of porosity in the topcoat layer (TCL) of thermal barrier coatings using digital images captured by an inverted optical microscope. Porosity in a coating is related to thermal compensation and the longevity of the parts protected by the coating. The approach employs pixel-wise classification and transfer learning accompanied by data augmentation to expedite the training process and increase classification accuracy. The authors evaluate CNN-based models globally on the entire TCL of 159 high resolution raw images of three types (Type A, B, C) that are generated from three different types of powders and exhibit different physical and visual properties. The experimental results show that the CNN-based models outperform adaptive local thresholding-based porosity measurement (ALTPM) approach that this paper proposed in the previous work by 7.76%, 10.82%, and 12.10% respectively for Type A, Type B, and Type C images in terms of the average classification accuracy.

Abstract:
Abstract It has been recently shown that many proteins are lacking from reference databases used in mass spectrometry analysis, due to their translation templated on alternative open reading frames. This questions our current understanding of gene annotation and drastically expands the theoretical proteome complexity. The functions of these alternative proteins (AltProts) still remain largely unknown. We have developed a large-scale and unsupervised approach based on cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) followed by shotgun proteomics to gather information on the functional role of AltProts by mapping them back into known signalling pathways through the identification of their reference protein (RefProt) interactors. We have identified and profiled AltProts in a cancer cell reprogramming system: NCH82 human glioma cells after 0, 16, 24 and 48 h Forskolin stimulation. Forskolin is a protein kinase A activator inducing cell differentiation and epithelial–mesenchymal transition. Our data show that AltMAP2, AltTRNAU1AP and AltEPHA5 interactions with tropomyosin 4 are downregulated under Forskolin treatment. In a wider perspective, Gene Ontology and pathway enrichment analysis (STRING) revealed that RefProts associated with AltProts are enriched in cellular mobility and transfer RNA regulation. This study strongly suggests novel roles of AltProts in multiple essential cellular functions and supports the importance of considering them in future biological studies.
