Abstract:
In 1994, a telemedicine network was established linking the renal unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital to three satellite dialysis centres in South Australia. In the first two and a half years of operation, the telemedicine equipment was used on over 6000 occasions. Interviews were conducted with 18 medical, nursing and allied health staff and dialysis patients. The main finding was that the full range of staff, from surgeons and nephrologists to allied health staff and nurses, were able use the technology successfully for clinical purposes. A second finding was that the technology enabled staff to perform a wide range of clinical procedures, from routine outpatient consultations and monitoring infections to making decisions about retrieval or confirming decisions to operate. A third finding was that telemedicine enabled the renal unit to provide improved services in which teams of staff at the different sites cooperated in ways that were not possible before the telemedicine links became available.

Abstract:
Treating a patient with tooth pain is a multi-factorial process with many factors playing their role to warrant the success of the treatment procedure. One such important factor is to secure the root apex which is important for ensuring good prognosis in endodontics. Also in challenging situations like sealing a fractured root, resorbed apex, or an incompletely formed apex, the need of an intact root apex is much anticipated. Over the years, an array of novel products has been produced for root-end applications to achieve such a favorable condition. The objective of this review is to list and summarize such root-end materials. However, their merits, and claims of superiority over MTA, have to be ascertained via sustained research.

Because the Anglophone historiography has tended to marginalize the French contribution to the allied chemical war during the Great War 1914-1918, this study has attempted to re-balance the historical narrative by emphasizing the collective nature and importance of this joint Franco-British enterprise. By interrogating a raft of under-utilized primary evidence in the French and British archives, elements of the two armies’ defensive and offensive gas warfare performance have been reassessed through the co-operation prism. The investigation demonstrates how closely, comprehensively, and effectively the two allies worked together in chemical weapon production and exchange, research and development, anti-gas protection, and indirect battlefield applications.

The unifying notion of material force which gathers under one vision all types of driving “forces” on defects and smooth or abrupt inhomogeneities in fracture, defect mechanics, elastodynamics (localized solutions) and allied theories such as in electroelasticity, magnetoelasticity, and the propagation of phase transition fronts, is reviewed together with its many faceted applications. The presentation clearly distinguishes between the role played by local physical balance laws in the solution of boundary-value problems and that played by global material balance laws in obtaining the expression of relevant material forces and devising criteria of progress for defects, in a general way. The advances made along this line, which may be referred to as Eshelbian mechanics, are assessed and perpectives are drawn.

Abstract:
Evidence-based practice (EBP) and educational technology have become fundamental skills within athletic training programs. The objective of this article is to share experiences implementing clinical orthopaedic evaluation applications (“apps”) that can be integrated into classroom and clinical education to enhance students' proficiency and efficiency utilizing and interpreting special test findings. Today's entry-level allied health professional is expected to have a deeper understanding of special tests than ever before. In addition to developing proficiency in clinical skills, these future clinicians must understand validity statistics in order to select appropriate special tests and interpret the results. The Clinical ORthopedic Exam (C.O.R.E.) application is a database of nearly 250 special tests with descriptions of the test, a video of the special test being performed, and statistical support for the use of the test in reported sensitivity/specificity and likelihood ratios. The series of anatomy applications developed by 3D4Medical.com allows the user to view, zoom, and rotate the joint in 3 dimensions, providing cross-sectional views and virtual layer removal (revealing muscles, connective tissue, bones, vessels, and nerves). Textbooks that overview clinical special tests are not updated often enough to reflect the growing body of research surrounding these techniques. Students and clinicians require the most up-to-date information in order to make sound clinical decisions. The C.O.R.E. application provides access to the most recent peer-reviewed validity statistics. Patient education is also highly valued; the series of applications by 3D4Medical provides vivid anatomical images that can aid in explanation of injury to patients. With EBP a required educational content area within athletic training education and with medical technology becoming commonplace in allied health settings, it is essential that athletic training programs engage students in the use of technology during their classroom and clinical experiences.

Abstract:
Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and allied photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy have shown remarkable activity against bacterial pathogens in both planktonic and biofilm forms. There has been little or no resistance development against antimicrobial photodynamic therapy. Furthermore, recent developments in therapies that involve antimicrobial photodynamic therapy in combination with photothermal hyperthermia therapy, magnetic hyperthermia therapy, antibiotic chemotherapy and cold atmospheric pressure plasma therapy have shown additive and synergistic enhancement of its efficacy. This paper reviews applications of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and non-invasive combination therapies often used with it, including sonodynamic therapy and nanozyme enhanced photodynamic therapy. The antimicrobial and antibiofilm mechanisms are discussed. This review proposes that these technologies have a great potential to overcome the bacterial resistance associated with bacterial biofilm formation.

With increasing evidence of their relevance to resource recovery, waste utilization, zero waste, a circular economy, and sustainability, food-processing waste streams are being viewed as an aspect of both research and commercial interest. Accordingly, different approaches have evolved for their management and utilization. With excellent levels of customization, three-dimensional (3D) printing has found numerous applications in various sectors. The focus of this review article is to explain the state of the art, innovative interventions, and promising features of 3D printing technology for the valorization of agri-food processing waste streams. Based on recent works, this article covers two aspects: the conversion of processing waste streams into edible novel foods or inedible biodegradable materials for food packing and allied applications. However, this application domain cannot be limited to only what is already established, as there are ample prospects for several other application fields intertwining 3D food printing and waste processing. In addition, this article presents the key merits of the technology and emphasizes research needs and directions for future work on this disruptive technology, specific to food-printing applications.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Timely multidisciplinary communication is crucial to prevent patient harm related to miscommunication of clinical information. Many health care organizations provide secure communications systems; however, clinicians often use unapproved platforms on personal devices to communicate asynchronously. Objective The aim of the study is to assess clinical communication behaviors by clinicians in a hospital setting. Methods Medical, nursing and allied health staff working across seven hospital sites of a large health care organization were invited to complete an anonymous survey on the methods, behaviors, and rationale for clinical communication technology use. The survey included questions on communication methods used by clinicians for intra- and inter-disciplinary communication and sending and receiving clinical information or images. Demographics and qualitative comments were also collected. Results A total of 836 surveys were completed (299 medical, 317 nursing, and 220 allied health staff). Staff in all clinical groups reported using an unapproved messaging platform to communicate patient information more than three times per day (medical staff n = 167, 55.9%; nursing staff n = 106, 33.4%; allied health staff n = 67, 30.5%). Not one medical staff member indicated they only use the approved methods (n = 0, 0%) while one-third of nursing and allied health respondents only used approved methods (n = 118, 37.2% and n = 64, 29.1%, respectively). All clinician groups reported wasted time from communications sent with missing information, or time spent waiting for responses for further information. Qualitative comments expressed dissatisfaction and frustration with current clinical communication methods and a desire for improved systems. Conclusion Workarounds are being used by all clinician groups to send text and image clinical communications. There are high levels of dissatisfaction with this situation and clinicians are keen for consistency and to have the right tools available. There is a need to ensure standardized clinical communication methods and approved digital platforms are in place and utilized to provide safe, high-quality patient care.

Abstract:
With the mounting demand of web applications, a number of issues allied to its quality have came in existence. In the meadow of web applications, it is very thorny to develop high quality web applications. A design pattern is a general repeatable solution to a generally stirring problem in software design. It should be noted that design pattern is not a finished product that can be directly transformed into source code. Rather design pattern is a depiction or template that describes how to find solution of a problem that can be used in many different situations. Past research has shown that design patterns greatly improved the execution speed of a software application. Design pattern are classified as creational design patterns, structural design pattern, behavioral design pattern, etc. MVC design pattern is very productive for architecting interactive software systems and web applications. This design pattern is partition-independent, because it is expressed in terms of an interactive application running in a single address space. We will design and analyze an algorithm by using MVC approach to improve the performance of web based application. The objective of our study will be to reduce one of the major object oriented features i.e. coupling between model and view segments of web based application. The implementation for the same will be done in by using .NET framework.

Abstract:
The past decade or so has seen a dramatic change in the way that economists can learn by watching our planet from above. A revolution has taken place in remote sensing and allied fields such as computer science, engineering, and geography. Petabytes of satellite imagery have become publicly accessible at increasing resolution, many algorithms for extracting meaningful social science information from these images are now routine, and modern cloud-based processing power allows these algorithms to be run at global scale. This paper seeks to introduce economists to the science of remotely sensed data, and to give a flavor of how this new source of data has been used by economists so far and what might be done in the future.

Abstract:
Nowadays, aluminium alloys are of growing interest to scientists and are widely used in aerospace and allied industries due to their inherent lightness, high strength to weight ratio, excellent thermal and electrical conductance, good reflectivity and low working cost. Among the conventional structural materials used in aerospace applications aluminium alloys are frontrunners. This is due to the ability of modern aluminium alloys to achieve unique combination of properties, through alloying and heat treatment, tailored to particular applications. Aluminum alloy 7075 (B95) is a high-strength alloy that works in extreme conditions and is used in modern construction of aircraft, spacecraft and satellites. In this mini-review, we will briefly focus on some of the existing and growing applications of some 7xxx aluminum alloys, in particular 7075 (B95), in the aerospace industry. Possible options for continuing work in this area are considered, and some Bulgarian developments are presented.

Abstract:
Intramuscular electrical stimulation (IMES) is a modality used by clinicians to treat myofascial pain. Recent studies have shown positive results for the use of IMES on pain outcomes, yet studies investigating the potential mechanisms of IMES directly to trigger points (TrPs) are lacking. We performed a scoping review of the literature to summarize the current evidence from human and animal studies on the mechanisms of IMES to the TrP location, and to identify gaps in the existing literature. Electronic literature searches were conducted across five databases from inception to 15 August 2022, including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Allied and Complementary Medicine Database (AMED), Scopus and Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials. Four studies met our full criteria for inclusion in this review. Three studies assessed the effects of IMES to TrPs on human subjects with MPS, and only one study used an animal model with experimentally generated TrPs. Based on the results of the included studies, IMES within a TrP region was reported to normalize muscle blood flow, decrease endplate noise of the TrP and elicit antinociceptive effects, at least partially, through engaging supraspinal descending pain inhibitory systems. At present, no clinical implications can be determined on the use of IMES to TrPs due to the limited amount and quality of the available evidence. Further studies investigating the clinical effectiveness and also underlying mechanisms of IMES to TrPs are clearly needed.

BackgroundThought insertion is commonly regarded as diagnostic of schizophrenia. Little is known of its aetiology or pathophysiology.AimsTo examine the definition and application of thought insertion in psychiatric and allied literatures.MethodA semi-structured literature review and conceptual analysis.ResultsWhen ‘narrowly’ defined, thought insertion is reliably identified but not specific to schizophrenia. There is a range of related phenomena (‘alienated’, ‘influenced’, ‘made’ and ‘passivity’ thinking), less consistently defined but also not specific to schizophrenia. Whether thought insertion is solely an abnormal belief (or may also be an experience) is open to question. Nevertheless, the symptom has been used to explain schizophrenia, predict dangerousness and advance theories of ‘normal’ agency. Most applications have been subject to critique.ConclusionsDespite its widespread occurrence and diagnostic application, thought insertion is an ill-understood and under researched symptom of psychosis. Its pathophysiology remains obscure.
