Målet med projektet har varit att skapa en lösning som gör det möjligt för alla att färdas med självkörande bilar i framtiden, med fokus på rullstolsburna. Projektet har gjorts i nära samarbete med personer som har olika funktionsvariationer, med fokus på att kunna komma in i fordonet och spänna fast sig självständigt. Projektet har gjorts i samarbete med DRIVE-projektet på Mittuniversitet, som forskar kring energilagring, elbilsinfrastruktur och elmotordrivlina.

Imagine a school where everyone tries to help the weakest student, and there is no competition among them except for being nice and supportive! Or companies who, instead of competing with their customers, try to make the world a better place! Yes, it is too big of a goal, but every big move starts from a small step. The small step in my thesis is working on the question "how to make groups work together in a better way" applied to the world of artificial intelligence. To train virtual agents to successfully work together, one must overcome the same problems humans face, such as selfishness. While agents might not be selfish, we typically optimize or preferentially select them on their individual performance. Thus, the selfish agents would also win again. To study and remedy this problem, I made a game for multiple artificial agents competing with each other. I also devised different objective functions so that selfishness might not be the optimal strategy. Specifically, Darwin's theory of Evolution and the group selection mechanism provides a different mechanism to incentivize groups to cooperate. The idea is that when evolving agents under these conditions, the last generation will include only cooperating agents. I used a framework that includes an evolvable neural network for implementing the agents and a genetic algorithm working based on specific rewarding schemes. I found that different rewarding schemes result in different agent behavior. Specifically, when agents evolve in groups whose performance is measured by their weakest member, they not only evolve to become an effective group, but they receive rewards more equally.

Addiction to drugs and alcohol is at an all time high. Billions are being spent annually on this epidemic with minimal success (Califano, 2007). Research indicates that drug and alcohol abuse/addiction is one of the major contributing causes to mental health problems (Fletcher, 2013; Sheff, 2013). The purpose of this inquiry is to understand the experience of one client in Integral Recovery (IR). The experience of this client was interpreted through an AQAL lens. Additionally this study used a phenomenological design, the researcher interviewed one client of IR, his mother, and one staff member who regularly worked with the client over the course of three months. After careful analysis of these interviews five key themes related to the IR treatment model emerged: 1) Practices and Structure 2) Obstacles to Recovery 3) Values Integral Recovery 4) Relatedness 5) Optimism. Interview results provided an additional perspective on the experience of an IR client in primary treatment. Future research might consider a longitudinal study with more participants to better understand the success rates of individuals who use IR interventions as their primary means of drug and alcohol treatment.

In an all-to-all broadcast, every user wishes to broadcast its message to all the other users. This is a process that frequently appears in large-scale distributed systems such as voting and consensus protocols. In the classic solution, a user needs to receive n messages and n signatures where n is the number of users in the network. This is undesirable for large-scale distributed systems that contain millions or billions of users and can be the throughput bottleneck for some existing systems. In this thesis, we propose two protocols for the all-to-all broadcast problem. Our protocols upper bound the number of bits each user receives by [Theta](n log log2 n), which is a huge improvement from the conventional n times the signature size. Besides the all-to-all protocol, we also provide new results regarding random graphs and regular graphs. These results are used in our protocol to prove its efficiency. But they are interesting by themselves and have independent theoretic value.

This work demonstrate the decision that lead the responsible team for the AL5 aircraft to recommend more dedicated study, on using composite materials on the constant section barrel of the fuselage, to the next design team. The recommendation where made after the mass comparison of a composite fuselage and an equivalent aluminum fuselage, both estimated through methodologies described on the books of Bruhn and Niu.

La compra de comida por internet en el Perú ha aumentado de forma considerable a lo largo de los años. Ello se ve reflejado en que la cultura peruana, lleva a que la población tenga un gran aprecio por los alimentos, considerando así la comida como uno de los mejores momentos del día. Al respecto, hemos identificado que un gran número de personas buscan opciones que les permitan personalizar sus pedidos, ya sea porque tienen alergias, gustos particulares o dietas específicas. Estos clientes suelen expresar su necesidad en los restaurantes, pero estos no siempre son atendidos, lo que genera una oportunidad en el mercado. Para solucionarlo, se creó All In, el primer restaurante en línea, con platillos altamente personalizables y servicio de reparto incluido. Además, All In, incluye la opción de planificar tus pedidos, brindándole al cliente la opción de elegir el día y la hora en la que le gustaría recibir su pedido. Consideramos que, al finalizar el periodo operacional establecido de cuatro años, All In se convertirá en una inversión rentable pues; de acuerdo a los indicadores analizados como VAN, TIR y PRD; contara con un valor actual neto de S/.28153,83, periodo de recupero de la inversión de tres años con seis meses y una tasa interna de retorno de 31%. Estos tres indicadores nos permiten afirmar que nuestro proyecto es viable y brindara una alta rentabilidad a los inversionistas/accionistas, por lo que es recomendable invertir en ello.
The purchase of food online in Peru has increased considerably over the years. This is reflected in the fact that Peruvian culture leads the population to have a great appreciation for food, thus considering food as one of the best moments of the day. In this regard, we have identified that a large number of people are looking for options that allow them to personalize their orders, either because they have allergies, particular tastes or specific diets. These customers often express their need in restaurants, but these are not always served, which creates an opportunity in the market. To solve this, “All In” was created, the first online restaurant, with highly customizable dishes and delivery service included. In addition, “All In” includes the option to plan your orders, giving the customer the option to choose the day and time they would like to receive their order. We believe that, at the end of the established four-year operational period, All In will become a profitable investment, therefore; according to the indicators analyzed such as NPV, IRR and PRD; It will have a net present value of S/.28,153.83, a payback period of the investment of three years and six months and an internal rate of return of 31%. These three indicators allow us to affirm that our project is viable and will provide a high return to investors / shareholders, so it is advisable to invest in it.

Anna-Maria is a cellist at the Ospedale della Pietà, a centuries-old Venetian institution that houses a hospital, a convent, an orphanage, and a music school for girls. As Anna-Maria begins venturing outside the walls of the Pietà, the lives of various characters begin to collide--Anna and her chorus mate Maddalena become entranced with an opera that comes through town, a widowed Fishmonger becomes obsessed with Anna because she reminds him of her dead son, an ailing doge mourns the loss of his city, a strange woman who lives in the sea begins meddling with the lives of those she encounters. The story unfolds in a series of interlocking vignettes, curated by an overarching narrator who has some agency over the characters and which sides of their stories she wants to reveal. The larger narrative structure imitates that of a music score, or a libretto, each vignette carrying a particular thematic sound that functions as a part of the whole. The constraint of the vignette mimics the constraints the narrator has placed on the characters by casting them in their own limiting roles--the young stupid girl, the lusty old maestro, the nun, the widower, the tragic ingénue. As the novel progresses, the characters begin to push against these constraints, and the story begins to slip out from the narrator's grip. All Saints is about performance and expectation, obsession and objectification, empathy and connection, the real and the surreal, and the limitless ways that different lives can come together and unfold.

All-American interrogates J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur’s definition of “American" in the 1782 text, Letters from an American Farmer, which inspired the Eurocentric, sexist and heterosexist ideals girding the notion of what is now called the “American Dream." Mainstream media project narratives that suggest that the ideals in Crevecoeur’s epistles have been fully extended beyond his narrow scope in the Obama era. All-American, however, offers poetry that illuminates modern and contemporary instances in urban and rural settings of racism, colorism, gender bias, ability discrimination and homophobia thwarting this idealistic worldview. Its formal and free verse explores the journey of four generations of one family as members grapple with discrimination, disability and disease and interrogates the heteronormativity and racism that girds the faith to which they cling. Whereas many contemporary poets eschew the confessional in storytelling, All-American employs it unabashedly. Moreover, All-American is interested in language poetry, not only that which plays with various Englishes but also with the languages that color them, that percolate under the surface. It aims to make music of these dialogical languages, these inexorable narratives. It lets the dead and dying tell their stories, which are no less American, though they are unpopular in an America racing to rid itself of past shame. All-American faces the shameful things Americans can do to one another and celebrates humans’ innate will to thrive, love and die with dignity—with hopes of inspiring dialogue and healing that will make American ideals more accessible to those on the periphery.

Composites are normally composed of two distinct phases: reinforcement and matrix. In recent years, a new class of “self-reinforced” polymer composites or “all-polymer” composites, which are based on similar or identical materials for both reinforcement and matrix have generated increasing interests in both academia and industries due to their advantages in terms of processing, interfacial properties and recyclability. Current research trend in this field is to investigate the potential possibilities of all-polymer composites based on high-performance polymer fibres. In this thesis, all-poly(ethylene terephthalate) composites (Part 1) and all-aramid composites (Part 2) were prepared. In Part 1, Chapter 3 describes the melt spinning and drawing of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) into highly oriented fibres, with moduli of 20GPa and tensile strengths of 925MPa. The effects of spinning and drawing conditions on the mechanical properties of PET fibres were studied. In the following Chapters 4 and 5, all-PET composites were prepared from 1) hot compaction of bi-component multifilament PET yarns; and 2) a film stacking technique, i.e. combining PET tapes unidirectionally with copolyester adhesive films in an alternating “brick-wall” layer-by-layer structure. The effects of processing conditions on mechanical properties were investigated. In Part 2 Chapter 7, all-aramid composites were prepared by a selective surface dissolution method where aramid fibres were partially dissolved to form a matrix phase to bond remaining fibres together into composites. The structure, morphology and mechanical properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile testing. Compared to traditional aramid/epoxy composites, these all-aramid composites show significantly high mechanical properties, even at elevated temperatures. In Chapter 8, the effects of processing conditions on various properties of all-aramid composites were studied and an optimum condition was found. By replacing high concentration sulphuric acid as a solvent, a mild mixed solvent was used to dissolve aramid fibre surfaces in Chapter 9. In this way, all-aramid composites with prolonged immersion times were prepared and characterized. Potential future work including all-PET composites from post-consumer PET waste, microstructural characterization of all-aramid composites and woven all-aramid composites are discussed in Chapter 10.

Inledning: All inclusive är ett koncept som på senaste år blivit mycket populärt och många resebolag erbjuder idag resor med All inclusive. Men det finns också en del negativa aspekter till dessa resor och de handlar bland annat om påverkan på miljön, den lokala turistnäringen och hur villkoren är för de anställda på hotellen med All inclusive.Syfte: Syftet med studien är att undersöka All inclusive och dess påverkan på olika parter så som gästen, personalen, resebolagen och lokala näringsidkare. Frågeställningen som ställts är hur de olika aktörerna upplever All inclusive i förhållande till den lokala turistnäringen, ekonomi, arbetskraft och påverkan på miljön.Metod/material: I studien tillämpades en kvalitativ metod där semistrukturerade intervjuer användes för att samla material till att besvara studiens syfte. Intervjuerna gjordes med sex stycken personer, varav två gäster som bodde på All inclusive, en vanlig gäst samt en reseledare, en lokal restaurangägare och en lokal guide. Intervjuerna tog plats i Turkiet och Egypten.Resultat: Resultaten visar att aktörerna upplever och påverkas olika av All inclusive. Det framkommer tydligt att konceptet har bidragande faktorer av både positiv och negativ karaktär. Det finns skillnader mellan All inclusives påverkan i de två länder där studien genomfördes men också likheter.Slutsats: Om det ska bli en förändring så att All inclusive inte får en negativ påverkan på den lokala turistnäringen, miljön och turismen så måste ansvar och medvetenhet införas bland alla parter i rese- och turistbranschen som kommer i kontakt med konceptet. Det måste även finnas en vilja bland aktörerna att agera på sätt som inte enbart gynnar dem själva.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka på vilket sätt musik och filmrum interagerar med varandra i filmmusikalerna ”Dancer in the Dark” och ”Chicago”. Detta görs huvudsakligen med utgångspunkt från Richard Dyers teorier kring rumsgestaltning inom filmmusikaler, men också utifrån deras roll som förmedlare av utopiska värden, samt Michel Chions teorier kring ljudets olika effekter på film. Vilka värderingar och budskap filmerna har och hur de kommer fram diskuteras också.

Resultatet av analyserna visar att de två filmernas sätt att arbeta med rum och musik skiljer sig markant, men att de båda för fram ett samhällskritiskt budskap.

Book Summary: In this versatile new book, practicing school counselors share their favorite group activities 67 of them in all for working with children and adolescents in the schools. For ease of use, activities are arranged by age as well as by stage. Introductory chapters highlight selection, use, and processing of activities, as well as ethical issues inherent in working with students in the schools. Each activity contains specific directions, goals, materials, and suggestions for adaptation. Suggestions for creating a supportive environment for groups are also included.

Für Kooperation via direkte Reziprozität müssen Menschen das Handeln ihrer Partner nachverfolgen, um Ausbeutung zu verhindern. Störungen (d.h. Gedächtnis- oder Wahrnehmungs-/Entscheidungsfehler) beeinträchtigen aber das Nachverfolgen. In meiner Dissertation erkunde ich, ob Strategien zur Modellierung menschlichen Verhaltens kognitiv umsetzbar sind und wie sie mit Störungen umgehen und erforsche umsetzbare störrobuste Alternativen. Tit-For-Tat, berühmtestes Beispiel traditioneller 1-Schritt-Gedächtnis-Strategien, ist nicht störrobust, weil kleinste Störungen seinen Erfolg verringern. Da Störungen alltäglich sind, ist Tit-For-Tat kein ideales Modell menschlichen Verhaltens. Kapitel 1 zeigte hohe Gedächtnisfehlerraten, wenn Versuchspersonen die letzte Handlung ihrer Partner wiedergeben sollten (1-Schritt-Gedächtnis). In einer evolutionären Simulation ging Kooperation bei diesen Raten unter. Sich an die letzte Handlung zu erinnern, ist weder störrobust noch umsetzbar. In Kapitel 2 untersuchte ich, ob Menschen die kognitiv eher umsetzbare Strategie benutzen, ihre Partner in Typen einzuteilen und Kooperierer/Betrüger zu unterscheiden. Verglichen damit, sich die letzte Handlung jedes Partners zu merken, sollte das die Gedächtnisanforderungen senken. Die Ergebnisse deuten an, daß Menschen Partnertypen unterscheiden und ihre Strategie an die Typenverteilung in der Umgebung anpassen. Kapitel 3 erforschte Strategien, die den Vorgang der Einteilung von Partnertypen modellieren, indem sie einen Eindruck bilden. In einer Simulation waren eindrucksbasierte Strategien beim Aufrechterhalten von Kooperation störrobuster als traditionelle Strategien. Auch sagten eindrucksbasierte Strategien Versuchspersonenverhalten besser vorher als traditionelle Strategien. Gewinner von Simulation und Kreuzvalidierung waren jedoch partnerunabhängige Strategien. Menschen scheinen kognitiv noch einfacher umsetzbare störrobuste Strategien zu benutzen.
For cooperation to evolve via direct reciprocity, individuals must track their partners’ behaviour to avoid exploitation. Noise (i.e., memory errors or perception/decision errors) compromises tracking, however. In my thesis, I investigate whether strategies proposed to model human behaviour are cognitively feasible and how they cope with noise, and explore feasible noise-robust alternatives. Tit-For-Tat, the most prominent example of 1-step memory strategies, is not robust to noise, because even little noise decreases its success. Since noise is quite common in everyday life, Tit-For-Tat is not an ideal candidate to model human behaviour. Chapter 1 showed that participants, when asked to remember their partners’ previous behaviour (1-step memory), had high memory error rates. In an evolutionary simulation, these rates let cooperation vanish. Remembering a partners’ previous behaviour is neither noise-robust nor cognitively feasible. In Chapter 2, I investigated whether people use the cognitively more feasible strategy of categorizing partners into types, distinguishing cooperators and cheaters. Compared to remembering each partners’ previous behaviour, this would reduce memory effort. The results indicate that people differentiate partner types and adjust their strategy to the proportion of types in their environment. Chapter 3 explored strategies that model the process of categorizing partners into types by building an impression. In a simulation, impression-based strategies were more robust to noise in maintaining cooperation than 1-step memory strategies. A cross-validation of strategies on data from Chapter 2 confirmed that impression-based strategies better predict participants’ behaviour than 1-step memory strategies. The winner of the simulation and the cross-validation were non-contingent strategies, though, indicating that people use cognitively even simpler noise-robust strategies.

This collection of creative nonfiction encapsulates the author’s career as a burlesque performer in New Orleans. The goal of this thesis is to tell her story using the techniques of creative nonfiction – specifically, the memoir. This is not merely a story of her career – it is a piece about her relationships, the author conquering her fears, and how she rises up to meet her goals. Part I tells of how the author discovers this new world and how she finds her place in it. Part II is the author’s personal narrative of her revelation to her family. This story will introduce those who are unfamiliar with burlesque to a world of theatrics, sparkle, erotic subtexts, and this story needs the techniques of creative nonfiction to do it justice.

Resumo: Desde o final do século XIX o esporte contemporâneo vem se modificando e assumindo uma lógica que, entre outros aspectos, aponta para as estratégias de comercialização e espetacularização. Entre os seus principais disseminadores está o Comitê Olímpico Internacional (COI), não somente pelos Jogos, mas por toda a relação associativa que envolve o movimento olímpico. A problematização que norteou nosso interesse de pesquisa construiu-se a partir do momento em que identificamos a presença dessa lógica também no esporte amador, a partir das relações estabelecidas entre o Serviço Social da Indústria (SESI) e a Confédération Sportive Internationale du Travail (CSIT) entre 1996 e 2011. Como hipótese, acreditamos que tais relações orientaram-se por essa lógica do esporte moderno, fortalecida com a entrada do SESI no campo, de forma que com o passar dos anos o habitus presente na sua estrutura, incorporado em seus agentes, passou a ser predominante, alterou a lógica de funcionamento do campo e motivou as outras instituições filiadas à CSIT a aderirem ao modelo ou afastarem-se da gestão. Nesse processo, tanto o SESI como a CSIT distanciaram-se dos seus conceitos vigentes relacionados às características do esporte amador e estruturados pelo "Sport for All" e passaram a reproduzir as estratégias de mercantilização e espetacularização do esporte profissional. Os objetivos da pesquisa foram analisar como a relação entre o SESI e a CSIT foi orientada por essa lógica do esporte moderno; identificar a concepção de esporte que essas instituições adotam e desenvolvem; verificar a influência dessa relação nas diretrizes e atividades do SESI e da CSIT; descrever o surgimento do Worker Sport Movement; apresentar o conceito "Sport for All"; apresentar o processo de desenvolvimento industrial brasileiro e os desdobramentos das ações de esporte e lazer nesse contexto; e descrever a história das instituições envolvidas (SESI e CSIT). Como referencial teórico metodológico de análise, utilizamos os constructos da Sociologia Reflexiva de Pierre Bourdieu para fazer a leitura do subcampo do esporte para trabalhadores, identificando suas estruturas e agentes, e então analisar as suas relações. Na sequência , realizamos uma aproximação destes com a Sociologia Compreensiva de Max Weber especificamente a partir dos conceitos de "sentido" da ação social e da relação social associativa, nos termos weberianos, apontando indícios de dominação e burocracia. Diante dos documentos históricos e entrevistas analisadas concluímos que as relações entre o SESI e a CSIT, entre 1996 e 2011, orientaram-se pela lógica do esporte moderno, pautada pelo modelo associativo olímpico e contemplando a reprodução das estratégias de espetacularização (aspirando a mercantilização também) do esporte profissional, incidindo, dessa forma, no distanciamento dos seus conceitos vigentes, relacionados às características do esporte amador e estruturados pelo "Sport for All". Contudo, dada a presença de outras Uniões no subcampo do esporte para trabalhadores e o próprio vínculo do SESI com o campo industrial, concluímos que os conceitos vigentes também se mantém presentes, mesmo que distanciados. Ou seja, novamente referindo-se à Weber e Bourdieu, trata-se, respectivamente, de uma relação social que é orientada por duas ordens vigentes, igualmente legítimas, com uma fluidez que tende mais à uma ou à outra, conforme as disputas no interior do campo.

This collection of work grew from a guided journey and an exploration of ideas that has not only encouraged my growth as an artist, but as a responsible citizen sharing this world with others. Over the duration of this evolution I have become increasingly attentive to what I feel is our collective manufactured existence; the things that we produce and the influence that this production has on our lives. From the built environment, material and immaterial commodities, advertising and marketing, consumption, sustainability, etc., all these continuously shifting factors act as constants in our lives and shape our psychosocial development. To better understand this, I have delved into looking at both myself and others for evidence of the various effects from living in a consumer culture. Drawing also from extensive research in the history of as well as contemporary theories on production, mass media culture, addiction, exploitation of people and resources, and the growth of technology, I look to increase not only my own awareness on these subjects, but to also educate others. My process of making work is a meditation in order to better facilitate inspection intertwined with introspection. A finished piece becomes an externalization of this effort, but not as a conclusion. The various mixed media included in All These Things is the culmination of an ongoing search that encourages conversation and further evaluation of our roles in a commodity culture. By coming at this multi-faceted topic from different directions, I am offering a radial view into the many possible considerations for what it means to be a consumer and how this affects us all.

The Weather Effect, where stock returns are affected by investors as a result of weatherinduced mood changes, has been found on various stock exchanges. Pizulito and Roncone (2016) argued that The Weather Effect could be a profitable market strategy. This research report investigated the usefulness of this phenomenon for predicting future returns on the JSE and thereby creating an investment style, through the use of the style engine built by Muller and Ward (2013). The research results revealed that the influence of the weather on stock returns is weak at best and cannot be used as an investment style. Previous concerns, as raised by Kim (2017) regarding data mining in providing evidence of The Weather Effect has been confirmed by this study

O projecto Finance4All consiste na criação de materiais pedagógicos que fomentem a literacia financeira. Nesse sentido, foi desenvolvido o jogo de cartas Deal Widit inserido na temática de literacia financeira e aprendizagem baseada em jogos. Optou-se por um jogo de cartas, uma alternativa eficaz e com custos muito reduzidos em comparação com outros tipos de jogos. O jogo tem como base a compra de negócios com elementos de risco e recompensa, poupança, orçamentação e estratégia. Também tem uma componente de figuras corporativas que enriquecerão o valor da empresa. O jogo, ainda na fase de protótipo, foi testado num pequeno grupo do qual se obteve feedback, pretendendo atingir o público em geral acima dos 12 anos.
There are many studies that prove that playing games is often better than conventional methods for learning. Playing helps not only to develop knowledge on the theme but also the improvement of soft skills such as problem solving, strategic thinking or perseverance. The main idea of the project was to create a game that spiked the interest on the financial topic. A card based game with a playing board was chosen. The lack of financial literacy, a problem for all age groups, can be tackled by small incentives such as playing a related game. This project is an attempt to make finance in general fun and easy – saving, investing, risk and return and another concepts are very much the main part of the game. The prototype game was tested in a small group several times and got a positive response. As a future objective the prototype should be finished and proceed its development stage with more testing, packing and distribution.

Na atualidade, e referenciando os objetivos de desenvolvimento sustentável estabelecidos pelas Nações Unidas em 2015, identifica-se a falta de energia como um dos problemas a resolver a nível mundial, ocupando a sétima posição do relatório. Neste momento, 1.1 biliões de pessoas continuam sem ter acesso à eletricidade, desencadeando problemas relacionados com a pobreza, a saúde, a educação, a igualdade de géneros e a sustentabilidade ambiental. A partir do problema identificado, torna-se imperativo apresentar soluções que visem uma melhoria a nível social, pessoal e económico, oferecendo melhorias quanto à eficácia energética, e abordando questões relacionadas com o impacte ambiental e com a vida útil do produto. Como proposta, e no desencadear da dissertação em forma de projeto final, desenvolveu-se um produto que armazena energia e emita luz sempre que necessário, de baixo custo e elevada portabilidade, e que sobretudo assegura aos seus utilizadores maior segurança nas atividades a desenvolver no seu dia-a-dia. Com base num projeto desenvolvido na UC de Projeto de Produto e Serviços II, conduziu-se uma investigação ativa, apoiada numa metodologia mista de caráter qualitativo, fazendo uso de métodos como a Crítica da Literatura, o Estudo de Casos, o Desenvolvimento de Projeto e a Validação de Protótipos. Para além disso espera-se desenvolver contato profícuo com entidades relevantes para o projeto, como é o caso das ONG na esperança de haver uma possibilidade de concretização efetiva do projeto. Pretende-se por fim, que no final desta investigação o público-alvo para o qual este produto se destina – contextos onde a energia seja inexistente nomeadamente os países subdesenvolvidos, as áreas que tenham sofrido de catástrofes naturais, as zonas militares ou de guerra, as situações de campismo e lazer - consiga alcançar níveis de autonomia adequados ao exercício das suas atividades de forma segura.
ABSTRACT: Presently, and referring to the Sustainable Development Goals put forth by the United Nations in 2015, the lack of energy has been identified as one of the problems in need of resolution on a global scale, currently occupying the seventh position in the before mentioned report. At the moment, 1.1 billion people continue without access to electricity, triggering problems directly linked to poverty, health, education, gender equality and environmental sustainability. Stemming from the previously identified problem, it then becomes imperative to put forward solutions that aim to improve the social, personal and economic level, offering enhancements to energy efficiency, and dealing with questions related to the environmental impact and the useful life of the product. As a proposal, and with the unfolding of the present dissertation in the form of a final project, was developed a product that stores energy and emit light when necessary, priced with a low cost budget and elevated portability, which will confer to its users safety in the activities developed in their dayto- day. Based on a project produced for the Product and Services Project II Curse Unit, conducted by an active investigation, supported by a mixed methodology of a qualitative nature, addressing methods such as Critical Review of Literature, Case Studies, Project Development and Prototype Validation, wishing to establish contact with relevant entities to the project, such is the case with NGOs. Lastly, at the end of this investigation, the target population for which it is intended – contexts where energy is non-existing, encompassing underdeveloped countries, areas which have been hit by natural disasters, military and war zones, camping and leisure activities - will be capable of obtaining sufficient autonomy to perform their activities in a secure manner.

Após a experiência pessoal como psicoterapeuta no Hospital Universitário João de Barros Barreto na cidade de Belém do Pará, atendendo pacientes portadores de HIV/aids, este pesquisador deparou-se com casos em que os pacientes apresentavam em seus discursos autoacusações relacionadas ao diagnóstico. A partir desses casos, foi desenvolvida primeiramente uma dissertação de mestrado que se ocupava com a questão do trauma reinscrito pelo diagnóstico de aids e sua possível ressignificação. O projeto de doutoramento tem como motivação continuar as investigações sobre as subjetividades reconstruídas após o diagnóstico positivo para aids. Para tanto, esta pesquisa objetivou investigar a relação entre o sentimento inconsciente de culpa e o sentimento de vergonha, como propostos na teoria psicanalítica, e o sofrimento psíquico produzido com a comunicação diagnóstica positiva para HIV/aids. Falar de aids, nos dias de hoje, ainda é difícil. E falar de sexualidade relacionada à aids é bem mais complicado. Temas-tabu (sexo e morte, associados no diagnóstico da doença) e o imaginário sobre a epidemia de aids, sentenciaram ao longo de sua história grupos que foram condenados a pagar pelo pecado que trouxe a aids, colocando-a dentro de nossas casas. O preconceito ainda é muito forte em relação aos sujeitos portadores da doença, o que se manifesta por sentimentos de culpa e vergonha. Este trabalho visou, dessa forma, a contribuir para o desenvolvimento de saberes, articulando teoria e prática psicanalíticas levando em consideração a mulher, e sua inserção na cultura e sociedade, e pensando as formas de subjetivação envolvidas na temática da aids. Para que se discuta o impacto da aids, é preciso discutir a própria sexualidade. O que propôs com esse trabalho foi pensar os sentimentos de vergonha e culpa como mantenedores do laço e do pacto sociais e como o diagnóstico de aids é um evento que coloca em perigo não só a vida do sujeito como a vida social.
After personal experience as a psychotherapist at the University Hospital João de Barros Barreto in the city of Belém, treating patients with HIV / AIDS, the researcher came across cases where patients had self-incrimination speeches related to their diagnosis. From these cases, it was first developed one dissertation which dealt with the issue of trauma reinstated by the diagnosis of AIDS and its possible redefinition. The PhD project represents a motivation to continue the investigation into the subjectivities rebuilt after positive diagnosis of AIDS. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between the unconscious sense of guilt and a sense of shame, as proposed in psychoanalytic theory, and psychological distress produced with the positive diagnostic communication for HIV / AIDS. Talking about AIDS stills difficult nowadays. Furthermore, speaking of AIDS-related sexuality is much more complicated. Taboo subjects (sex and death associated with the diagnosis of disease) and the imaginary about the AIDS epidemic, sentenced over its history groups were ordered to pay for the sin that brought AIDS, placing it within our houses. Prejudgement is still very strong to subjects with the disease, which is manifested by feelings of guilt and shame. This work aims, thereby, to contribute to the development of knowledge, linking theory and psychoanalytic practice, taking into account the woman, and its place in culture and society, and thinking forms of subjectivity involved in the AIDS issue. In order to discuss the impact of AIDS, we need to discuss their sexuality. What has proposed with this work was to think of the feelings of shame and guilt as the bond holders and the social pact and how the AIDS diagnosis is an event that endangers not only the subject s life as social life.
Después de la experiencia personal como psicoterapeuta en el Hospital Universitario João de Barros Barreto en la ciudad de Belém del Pará, atendiendo a los pacientes con VIH / SIDA, el investigador encontró casos en que los pacientes tenían autoacusaciones en sus discursos relacionados con el diagnóstico. De estos casos, se desarrolló por primera vez una tesis que trata de la cuestión del trauma reintegrado por el diagnóstico de SIDA y su posible redefinición. El proyecto de tesis doctoral es la motivación para continuar la investigación sobre las subjetividads reconstruidas después del diagnóstico positivo de SIDA. Con este fin, esto estudio investigó la relación entre el sentimiento inconsciente de culpa y el sentimiento de vergüenza, como propone la teoría psicoanalítica, y la angustia psicológica producida con la comunicación de diagnóstico positivo para el VIH / SIDA. Hablar del sida, en estos días, sigue siendo difícil. Y hablar de la sexualidad relacionada con el SIDA es mucho más complicado. Après l expérience personnelle en tant que psychothérapeute à l hôpital universitaire João de Barros dans la ville de Belém do Pará, au service des patients porteurs du VIH / SIDA, le chercheur a rencontré des cas où les patients avaient dans leurs discours des auto-accusations liées au diagnostic. De ces cas, il a d abord été développé une thèse qui traitait de la question du traumatisme rétabli par le diagnostic et de son éventuelle redéfinition. Le projet de thèse est la motivation de poursuivre l enquête sur les subjectivités reconstruites après diagnostic positif du SIDA. À cette fin, la présente étude a examiné la relation entre le sentiment inconscient de culpabilité et un sentiment de honte, comme proposé dans la théorie psychanalytique et la stresse psychologique produite avec la communication de diagnostic positif du VIH / SIDA. Parler du SIDA, de nos jours, est encore difficile. Et parler de la sexualité liée au SIDA est encore plus compliqué. Thème tabou (sexe et mort associés au diagnostic de la maladie), l imaginaire social du SIDA a fait que ces groupes ont été condamnés à payer pour le péché qu est le SIDA, tout au long de leur histoire, ces groupes ont été condamnés à payer pour le péché qu est le SIDA, le plaçant au sein de nos maison. Les préjugés sont encore très forts par rapport aux sujets atteints de la maladie, qui se manifestent par des sentiments de culpabilité et de honte. Ce travail visite ainsi à contribuer au développement des connaissances, liant la théorie et la pratique psychanalytique, en tenant compte de la femme, et de sa place dans la culture et la société, et des penser aux formes de subjectivité inhérente à la question du SIDA. Afin de discuter de l impact du SIDA, nous devons discuter de sexualité. Ce travail est proposé afin de penser aux sentiments de honte et de culpabilité comme détenteurs du lien et du pacte social et comment le diagnostic du SIDA est un événement qui met non seulement en danger la vie du sujet, mais aussi la vie sociale.

In communication systems, the need for high bandwidth interconnects and

efficient distribution of large amount of data is very essential. This thesis work

addresses all-optical packet switching issues in the field of reconfigurable optical

interconnection networks for high performance embedded systems. The recent

research conducted at the Halmstad University, on high performance embedded

systems, focuses on the optical interconnection techniques to achieve ultra high

throughputs and reconfigurability at the system level.

Recent research in the field of optical interconnection networks for applications

like switches and routers for data and telecommunication industry and parallel

computing architectures for embedded signal processing use optical to electrical

conversion to switch packets. This conversion scales down the enormous bandwidth

capacity of the optical communication channels to electronic processing rates. To

maintain the high throughputs all over the interconnection networks, the optical

packets need to be maintained in optical state and switched to different part of the

interconnection network. To achieve this goal, all-optical packet switching

architectures are studied. The study is concluded with a positive outlook towards alloptical

switching technologies, and it will play a very important role in the near

future in the field of optical communication, telecommunication and embedded

systems.

Bei den aktuellen Debatten um die Etablierung von Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Lehrqualität lohnt sich der Blick ins Vereinigte Königreich. Ähnlich wie hierzulande bedurfte es dort für die Verbesserung der Lehre an Hochschulen einer Krisenwahrnehmung. Die Entwicklung entsprechender Einrichtungen und Programme gründet in einer doppelten Bewegung: Bedarf "von unten" einerseits, Direktiven und Finanzierung "von oben" andererseits.

Not Dead At All is a nontraditional thesis, a creative product, the result of a combination of media production and social research. This paper is an attempt to explain the creative and production process behind the creation of an original media content, using the social research as a tool to increase the likeability of our characters and therefore increase the show’s chances of success.

This thesis reports on my research efforts towards all-dielectric metamaterials with reconfigurable functionalities: • I have reported the first optomechanical nonlinear dielectric metamaterial. I have shown that such metamaterials provide extremely large optomechanical nonlinearities at near infrared, operating at intensities of only a few μW per unit cell and modulation frequencies as high as 152 MHz, thereby offering a path to fast, compact, and energy efficient all-optical metadevices. • I have experimentally demonstrated the first all-dielectric electro-optical nanomechanical modulator based on all-dielectric nanomembrane metamaterial. Furthermore, I have shown the dynamical control of optical properties of this device, with modulation frequency up to 7 MHz. I have also establish an encapsulation technique where any nano-membrane can be embedded within a fiber setup with electrical feedthroughs and pressure control. • I have studied for first time the optical properties of Diamond nano-membrane metamaterials. Diamond membranes after nanostructuring with Focus Ion Beam, present broadband, polarization-independent absorption that can be used as efficient coherent absorbers for optical pulses as short as 6 fs. This novel class of metamaterials have been used for coherent modulation with modulation contrast up to 40% at optical fluences of few nJ/cm2 across the visible spectrum. • I have reported the first optically-switchable, all-chalcogenide phase-change metamaterial. Germanium antimony telluride alloys (GST) after nanostructuring subwavelength-thickness films of GST present high-quality resonances that are spectrally shifted by laser-induced structural transitions, providing reflectivity and transmission switching contrast ratios of up to 5:1 (7 dB) at near-infrared wavelengths selected by design, or strong colour contrast in visible due to its plasmonic nature. • This work has introduced dielectric nano-membrane metamaterials, as a platform to provide optically switchable, nonlinear, reconfigurable responses. Due to nanomechanical actuation based on optical/electromagnetic forces, coherent modulation based on the diamond absorbers and phase change media of Chalcogenide glasses.

Esta dissertação apresenta uma análise do romance Heart of Darkness, de Joseph Conrad, utilizando-se de teorias pós-coloniais (em particular as teorias de orientalismo de Edward Said) para entender como as políticas coloniais do final do século 19 são retratadas através da mentalidade vitoriana. A aproximação do romance com documentos históricos de época revelam a ambiguidade do autor em relação às políticas de colonização ultramarina e subsequente racismo defendidas pelas metrópoles européias

All-optical solutions for switching and routing packet-based traffic are crucial for realizing a truly transparent network. To meet the increasing requirements for higher bandwidth, such optical packet switched networks may require the implementation of digital functions in the physical layer. This scenario stimulated us to research and develop innovative high-speed all-optical storage memories, focusing mainly on bistables whose state switching is triggered by a pulsed clock signal. In clocked devices, a synchronization signal is responsible for controlling the enabling of the bistable. This thesis also presents novel solutions to implement optical logic gates, which are basic building blocks of any processing system and a fundamental element for the development of complex processing functionalities. Most of the proposed schemes developed in this work are based on SOA-MZI structures due to their inherent characteristics such as, high extinction ratio, high operation speed, high integration capability and compactness. We addressed the experimental implementation of an all-optical packet routing scheme, with contention resolution capability, using interconnected SOAMZIs. The impact on the system performance of the reminiscent power of the blocked packets, from the non ideal switching performed by the SOA-MZIs, was also assessed.
As soluções totalmente óticas para a comutação e encaminhamento de pacotes de tráfego são cruciais para a realização de uma rede verdadeiramente transparente. Para atender às exigências crescentes de maior largura de banda, tais redes de comutação de pacotes óticos exigem a implementação de funções digitais na camada física. Este cenário estimulou-nos a investigar e a desenvolver memórias totalmente óticas, focando-nos principalmente na implementação de flip-flops óticos síncronos, cujo estado de comutação é accionado por um sinal de relógio. Esta tese também apresenta novas soluções para implementar portas lógicas óticas, visto estas serem um elemento fundamental para o desenvolvimento de funcionalidades complexas de processamento. A maioria dos esquemas propostos neste trabalho são baseados em estruturas interferométricas activas Mach-Zehnder (SOA-MZI) devido às suas características intrínsecas, nomeadamente, razão de extinção elevada bem como elevada capacidade de integração. A implementação experimental de um sistema de encaminhamento de pacotes totalmente ótico foi realizada usando cascatas de SOA-MZIs. O impacto da potência residual, devido à comutação não ideal dos SOA-MZIs, foi também analisado.

La méta-optique non linéaire tout diélectrique suscite un vif intérêt, grâce à la faisabilité de nanostructures à contraste élevé et indice de réfraction disponible avec la lithographie à semi-conducteurs. Alors que des effets nonlinéaires au troisième ordre ont été rapportés dans les nanoantennes silicium sur isolant, la plate-forme AlGaAs-sur-isolant a récemment permis la démonstration de la génération de la seconde harmonique, dû à la noncentrosymétrie de ce matériel. Cette thèse illustre notre activité récente sur les nanoantennes non linéaires AlGaAs-sur-AlOx, où AlOx est obtenu par attaque chimique sélective par voie humide d'une couche épitaxiale d'AlGaAs riche en aluminium d'une épaisseur de quelques micromètres. Un tel substrat à faible indice de réfraction permet de découpler efficacement les modes nanoantenna de la tranche de GaAs (100) sous-jacent. La thèse présente d'abord les méthodes numériques, expérimentales et technologiques utilisées. Une analyse des résultats obtenus dans la génération de signaux non linéaires dans des nanoantennes simples et dans des structures complexes est ensuite présentée. Tous nos résultats expérimentaux ouvrent la voie à la génération et à la manipulation de signaux non linéaires à l'échelle nanométrique et pointent vers des applications telles que l'holographie non linéaire, la goniométrie sans fond et la vision nocturne
All-dielectric nonlinear meta-optics is attracting a great deal of interest thanks to the feasibility of high refractive-index contrast nanostructures available with semiconductor lithography. While third order nonlinear effects have been reported in silicon-on-insulator nanoantennas, the AlGaAs-on-insulator platform has recently enabled the demonstration of second harmonic generation, owing to the non-centrosymmetry of this material. This PhD thesis illustrates our recent activity on AlGaAs-on-AlOx nonlinear nanoantennas, where AlOx is obtained from selective wet etching of micrometer-thick aluminium-rich AlGaAs epitaxial layer. Such a low refractive index substrate allows to effectively decouple the nanoantenna modes from the underlying GaAs (100) wafer. The thesis first introduces the numerical, experimental and technological methods employed. Afterwards, a review of the results obtained in nonlinear signal generation in single nanoantennas and in complex structures is given. All our experimental results pave the way towards nonlinear signal generation and manipulation at the nanoscale, and point towards applications such as nonlinear holography, background-free goniometry and night vision
