Abstract:
Effect of 0.7 T magnetic field on state of the aliminium alloy, which creep increases after exposure of sample in magnetic field, manifesting "magnetic memory" was analysed. The alloy contains FeAl microinclusions identified by electron microscopy, magnetometry and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Possible changes of the states of the ferromagnetic microinclusions and aliminium matrix around them under magnetic field are disscused.

Abstract:
The aliminium alloys are of particular interest to both the aerospace industry and automotive industry because of their attractive combinations of properties such as medium strength, formability, weldability, corrosion resistance and low cost. Compared with a metal matrix material, significant improvements in the mechanical and physical properties such as strength, toughness, and thermal conductivity can be achievied in metal matrix composites (MMCs). In this work of investigation aluminium alloy AA6061 was reinforced by 5, 10 and 15% (in mass %) of Si3N4 (silicon nitride) and AlN (aluminium nitride) by mechanical alloying in a vibratory type SPEX mill, cold uniaxial compaction and vacuum sitering in order to investigate the influence of the particulate phase in the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites obtained. The microstructure of the powders and the sintered materials were evaluated by means of SEM and the hardness and were evaluated by hardness test.

Abstract:
Airway obstruction conditions are relatively rarely observed in clinical settings but nevertheless, extremely challenging to handle, especially when observed in pediatric patients. Several surgical procedures, including tracheal resection, end-to-end tracheal anastomosis, and tracheoplasty, have been developed and practised of late, to treat airway obstruction. However, the clinical outcome is typically not satisfactory due to airway restenosis conditions that develop following surgery. Various types of stents are currently available for airway stenting ranging from non-degradable silicone tubes and bio-inert metallic stents (bare or coated with polymer matrix) to hybrid silicone tubes strengthened by metallic cores, but none of the stents provides the satisfactory long-term effectiveness. Therefore, there is a significant clinical need for a biodegradable airway stent that would maintain airway patency and totally degrade over time after meeting the desired objectives. The present study aims to investigate biodegradable magnesium-aluminum-zinc-calcium-manganese (AZXM) alloy as a potential tracheal stent. The new AZXM alloy was fabricated by partially replacing aliminum in commercial AZ31 alloy with calcium. The present study demonstrates that calcium preferentially segregates along the grain boundaries as intermetallic phases (Mg2Ca) and is homogeneously distributed in the magnesium matrix. The extruded AZXM alloy showed less pitting, higher corrosion resistance in Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) compared to the as-cast and solution-treated AZXM alloys and exhibited optimized mechanical properties. In vitro cytotoxicity evaluation using human trachea epithelial cells demonstrated excellent cyto-compatibility of AZXM alloys compared to pure Mg and commercial AZ31 validated by a very preliminary rabbit in vivo tracheal model study. Preliminary results show that the approach to use biodegradable AZXM alloys as a tracheal stent is indeed promising, although further alloy processing is required to improve the ductility needed followed by a more exhaustive in vivo study to demonstrate full viability for stent applications.

Abstract:
The aim of the research is to study the formation of sodium aluminates - centres that are actively chemisorbed in acidic impurities consisting of powder components made from imported aluminium hydroxide and processed on alumina absorbent, with variations of the conditions of their alloying with the same amount of the sodium hydroxide. It was found that in the high-temperature samples, the absorption properties and the suppression potential activity in undesirable side oligomerization reactions are determined by the amount of the formed Na7Al3O8 phase, and NaОН.Н2О and Na2СО3 in the pore volume. The granules processed on alumina adsorbent allow for achieving the optimal combination of HCl adsorption volume and surface adsorption features without high-temperature processing.

Abstract:
This paper provides information regarding the application of niobium in industry and the scale of its production in the world and the Russian Federation. Most of the niobium deposits in Russia consist of pyrochlore, apatitepyrochlore and columbitepyrochlore types of ores. They contain a significant amount of phosphorus. Therefore, all enrichment schemes for these ores contain a dephosphorization stage which increases the price of the product and reduces the degree of niobium extraction. The paper explores the possibility of improving the end-to-end production scheme: niobium ore – beneficiation – niobium ferroalloy. The bulk of ferroniobium is intended for steel microalloying and can be replaced by complex ferroalloys with a reduced niobium content. The paper considers the issues of obtaining complex niobium ferroalloys from a rough concentrate with a weak content of niobium. It has been established that the addition of 25 – 40 % of silicon or 12 – 30 % of aliminum to the twocomponent metal system Fe – Nb causes the transfer of niobium ferroalloys (15 – 20 % Nb) from the refractory category to lowmelting materials. The crystallization temperatures are less than 1400 °C. The substantiation of using a complex niobium ferroalloy instead of ferroniobium is given. This alloy has reduced niobium content and increased silicon or aluminum content. Higher service characteristics of the complex ferroalloy are noted in comparison with ferroniobium (temperature of the initiation of crystallization and density). They indicate an increased assimilation of niobium when using a complex ferroalloy for steel microalloying. The paper presents data on the possibility of dephosphorization of niobium concentrates in the process of pyrometallurgical production of a complex ferroalloy. An improved scheme for the production of niobiumcontaining ferroalloys is proposed. This consists of the use of niobium concentrate for melting the intermediate ferroalloy containing a reduced concentration of niobium oxides and an increased concentration of silicon (aluminum). This ferroalloy can be used effectively for steel microalloying with niobium.

Abstract:
A range of aluminium alloys and particulate reinforced aluminium metal matrix composites has been tested in an apparatus which simulates the erosive-corrosive action of a slurry. The slurry consisted of silica sand suspended in either distilled water or synthetic mine water. Several steels were also tested in order to clarify certain concepts relating to the synergistic effects of erosion and corrosion. In general both the heat-treatable and non heat-treatable aluminium alloys exhibit lower slurry erosion rates with increasing hardness and work to fracture values. The slurry erosion rates of the aluminium matrix alloys increase with increasing amounts of reinforcement particles. For the steels a good work hardening capacity and/or high hardness values are found to promote good slurry erosion resistance. All the steels exhibit lower slurry erosion rates than the aluminium alloys. A corrosion cell was developed to allow in situ electrochemical measurements to be made. The addition of corrosive ions to the distilled water results in increased material removal rates, increasing by as much as 40% for some of the aluminium alloys and 41%for the 304 stainless steel. The aluminium alloys and the steels which have increased corrosion resistance due to passivity, display poor performance under the slurry erosion-corrosion conditions tested. Paradoxically corrosion resistance was found to have a detrimental effect on the slurry erosion-corrosion resistance of a material.

Abstract:
Piston is the "heart" of the internal combustion engine and its working is very versatile and dynamic in nature among the other parts of the engine. Piston converts heat and pressure energy liberated by fuel combustion into mechanical works. For smooth running of vehicle, piston should be in proper working condition. In this research, the stress distribution of piston in the actual working condition of the engine was investigated and analyzed. Aluminium alloy (Al 4032) has been selected as piston material for mechanical and thermal analysis. Mechanical analysis, thermal analysis and thermo mechanical analysis has been carried out for the actual working condition of the piston. The parameters used for the analysis of the piston were maximum gas pressure and maximum temperature at the piston head and material properties of piston of the four stroke diesel engine produces brake power of 5.2KW at 1500 rpm. Piston fails generally due to strain produced by mechanical stresses and thermal stresses at the edge of piston head. Analysis of piston has been performed by using boundary conditions, which includes pressure on the piston head during working condition and uneven temperature distribution from the piston head to the skirt. The CAD model of the piston was created by using SOLIDWORKS software. CAD model is then imported into ANSYS software for meshing and simulation purpose. The Finite Element Analysis was performed by using ANSYS 15.0 and various stresses such as maximum principal stresses, Von- Mises stresses, total deflection, total heat flux and thermal strain occurred during working condition were evaluated. The results of the simulation depicts the stresses occurred in piston is within the permissible limit of the piston material and the deformation is well within the tolerance limit.
