Tomatoes have been associated with various health benefits, including the prevention of chronic diseases. The cis-isomers of lycopene occurring in tangerine tomatoes were, through clinical trials, proven to be more bioavailable than the all-trans lycopene found in red tomatoes. Nonetheless, scientific evidence regarding the bioactivities of the tangerine tomatoes is lacking. In this article, the antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties of extracts prepared from four different tomato varieties, namely Alfred, Olga’s Round Golden Chicken Egg, Golden Green, and Golden Eye, were investigated. While the antioxidant capacities of the extracts were measured through the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) assays, their anti-proliferative properties in prostate cancer cell lines were examined through the Sulforhodamine-B (SRB) assay. The anti-inflammatory activities of the extracts were assessed through the toll-like receptor (TLR)2, TLR4, and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain containing protein 2 (NOD2)-mediated inflammatory pathways. Our results show that the tangerine tomatoes had lower IC50 values in both the anticancer and anti-inflammatory assays compared to the red tomatoes. Specifically, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of the tangerine tomatoes in LNCaP cells were approximately two to three fold lower than the red tomato (IC50: 14.46, 5.62, and 8.08 mg dry tomato equivalent/mL from Alfred hexane-acetone, Olga’s Round Golden Chicken Egg hexane, and Golden Green hexane, respectively). These findings indicate that the tangerine varieties, Olga’s Round Golden Chicken Egg and Golden Green, possess greater potential to be used in conjunction with treatment and for the prevention of cancer and inflammatory-related diseases than the Alfred (red) and Golden Eye (high beta-carotene) varieties.

Annually, agricultural activity produces an enormous amount of plant biomass by-product. Many studies have reported the biomethane potential of agro-industrial wastes, but only a few studies have investigated applying the substrates in both batch and continuous mode. Tomato is one of the most popular vegetables globally; its processing releases a substantial amount of by-product, such as stems and leaves. This study examined the BMP of tomato plant (Solanum lycopersicum Mill. L. cv. Alfred) waste. A comparative test revealed that the BMPs of corn stover, tomato waste,and their combination were approximately the same, around 280 mL methane/g Volatile Solid. In contrast, the relative biogas production decreased in the presence of tomato waste in a continuous mesophilic anaerobic digestion system; the daily biogas productions were 860 ± 80, 290 ± 50, and 570 ± 70 mL biogas/gVolatile Solid/day in the case of corn stover, tomato waste, and their mixture, respectively. The methane content of biogas was around 46–48%. The fermentation parameters of the continuous AD experiments were optimal in all cases; thus, TW might have an inhibitory effect on the microbial community. Tomato plant materials contain e.g. flavonoids, glycoalkaloids (such as tomatine and tomatidine), etc. known as antimicrobial and antifungal agents. The negative effect of tomatine on the biogas yield was confirmed in batch fermentation experiments. Metagenomic analysis revealed that the tomato plant waste caused significant rearrangements in the microbial communities in the continuously operated reactors. The results demonstrated that tomato waste could be a good mono-substrate in batch fermentations or a co-substrate with corn stover in a proper ratio in continuous anaerobic fermentations for biogas production. These results also point to the importance of running long-term continuous fermentations to test the suitability of a novel biomass substrate for industrial biogas production.

Analytic and holistic approaches to learning disabilities are introduced. Mainstream academic psychology is currently dominated by the analytic approach, which seeks to reduce complex phenomena to its parts in order to study and understand existing interactions between them. A review of literature reveals, that generally learning disabilities are defined in terms of deficits of various cognitive and language abilities and skills necessary for learning. Most often offered treatment procedures are based on programs that focus on improving deficient skills through repetition of various cognitive exercises.We put special emphasis on holistic approach which is presented through theorizing and the treatment of learning disabilities by French audio-psycho-phonologist Alfred Tomatis. According to A. Tomatis, neither normal nor abnormal behaviour can be understood without relating it to 1) the functioning of the whole organism, and 2) the historical and individual developmental processes. From his point of view, language, as a tool for communication, plays a very important role in the humanization of an individual. Individual personal development also confirms that the need for communication emerges already in the prenatal stage, when the link between foetus and mother is maintained, as the foetus hears from the 5th month of intrauterine life. The desire to communicate is implicit in the realization of human consciousness. Considering learning difficulties which are related with written language A. Tomatis claims that it is communication — primarily listening — disorder. The treatment, proposed by A. Tomatis, consists in teaching a person to use his ear as an apparatus capable of listening. He developed an electronic device called Electronic Ear designed to modify the way in which a subject listened and to help him improve language, learning and communication skills. Practitioners using A. Tomatis method confirm its effectiveness. However, it would be very difficult to evaluate his method through analitical experiments that would satisfy academic psychology, which remains skeptical.To contribute to the progress in understanding and treatment of learning disabilities academic psychology should pay more attention to the ideas approved in practice and to find more flexible ways of detection and evaluation of personal change.Key words: learning disability, hearing and listening, auditory stimulation, high frequency tones, electronic ear.

En 1936 los estudios de Hal Roach estrenaron la comedia The Bohemian Girl. Protagonizada por Stan Laurel y Oliver Hardy –el Gordo y el Flaco–, tomaba como base la ópera homónima (1843) de William Balfe y Alfred Bunn, cuyo libreto se había inspirado a su vez en La gitanilla de Miguel de Cervantes (Novelas ejemplares, 1613). El presente artículo sondea la transformación del relato del complutense desde su publicación hasta su reescritura fílmica gracias a la “Factoría de la Risa”; sin orillar tampoco el drama operístico, la fortuna internacional de la historia de Preciosa y sus copiosas decantaciones, cifra y razón de uno de los mitos más influyentes de las letras españolas.

O objetivo do estudo foi entender como trabalhadores rurais de Paty do Alferes lidam com os riscos da exposição aos agrotóxicos nas lavouras de tomate. Para o alcance deste objetivo, realizou-se um estudo descritivo exploratório de abordagem quantitativa. Para a coleta de dados foi apresentado um formulário aos trabalhadores de 02 Lavouras de tomate do referido município, sendo a análise dos dados foram realizadas mediante o cálculo da frequência relativa das respostas. Participaram da pesquisa 50 trabalhadores rurais, 100% do sexo masculino, 28% na faixa etária de 36 a 40 anos, 66% relataram que não receberam capacitação para processo de trabalho com o agrotóxico, sendo a bota de borracha como EPI mais utilizado relatado por 30% dos trabalhadores. Em relação ao descarte das embalagens dos agrotóxicos 36% dos trabalhadores relataram descarte inadequado, o que acarreta contaminação ambiental trazendo fatores de risco ao adoecimento. Sobre o armazenamento do agrotóxico no local de trabalho, 40% dos trabalhadores, relataram que o mesmo é armazenado na própria embalagem, porém a céu aberto. Conclui-se com o estudo que há um entendimento deficiente em relação ao processo de trabalho com o agrotóxico no município de Paty do Alferes onde, conforme apresentado, os trabalhadores tem pouco entendimento sobre os riscos que este produto traz a sua saúde e do ambiente. Lidando de forma precária a sua segurança com o uso deste produto, apresentando estratégias deficientes de atenção a sua saúde diante dos riscos apresentados no uso do agrotóxico.

Só recentemente, com a evolução das técnicas analíticas foi possível a detecção de contaminação por agrotóxicos nos sistemas hídricos. Em pequenas comunidades rurais, os efeitos negativos à saúde pública de uma contaminação dos sistemas hídricos seriam agravados pela falta de infra-estrutura e de condições sócio-econômicas. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar essa possível contaminação por agrotóxicos nos sistemas hídricos superficiais e subterrâneos utilizados para consumo humano direto na região da cultura do tomate no Município de Paty do Alferes, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Para isso, este estudo selecionou 27 pontos de coleta, onde foram feitas cinco coletas mensais, perfazendo um total de 135 amostras. A contaminação de sistemas hídricos por organofosforados e carbamatos foi determinada pela análise da inibição da atividade da enzima acetilcolinesterase. O resultado encontrado foi que em 19 dos 27 pontos selecionados houve contaminação detectável, sendo que em duas ocasiões essas contaminações ultrapassaram o permitido pela legislação. Com isso, comprovou-se a contaminação dos sistemas hídricos na região de Paty do Alferes, o que colocaria a saúde da população local em risco.

<p>A AR Consultoria Ltda., dos sócios e irmãos Alfredo e Rodolfo, especializada na venda de produtos químicos e na prestação de serviços para agroindústrias, nasceu com base em uma oportunidade visualizada por Rodolfo, tornar-se fornecedor da empresa em que trabalhava. Funcionário de uma agroindústria da cidade de Chapecó/SC possuía conhecimentos técnicos e uma ótima relação com seus colegas superiores e subordinados. Procurou a empresa na qual era funcionário e ofereceu produtos similares, mais eficientes e com preços menores aos<br />praticados pelos fornecedores atuais, mas se deparou com algo que não tinha conhecimento: a corrupção. Surgira o primeiro desafio ético da AR Consultoria: o pagamento de um “extra por fora” para se tornar fornecedor. Alfredo, recém-formado em Administração, empolgado com a possibilidade e oportunidade de empreender, aos poucos conheceu as dificuldades em iniciar um negócio próprio, a alta carga tributária, falta de incentivos, falta de crédito no mercado e a oportunidade de “ganhar um pouco mais” vendendo sem nota fiscal. Essas e outras situações marcaram as dificuldades de início da abertura de mercado da AR Consultoria Ltda. O objetivo do caso é apresentar uma situação real, presente em alguns ramos e setores organizacionais<br />e que exija do leitor uma tomada de decisão, uma postura ética diante dos desafios morais apresentados.<br /><br /></p>

Paty do Alferes (RJ) é um município com tradição agrícola, sendo a olericultura a sua principal atividade econômica. A região apresenta uma topografia e regime de chuvas que favorecem a erosão. A falta de um manejo adequado do solo e o uso excessivo de agroquímicos favorecem os processos de degradação física e química do solo, acarretando sérios impactos ao ambiente. Com o objetivo de avaliar o acúmulo de metais pesados no solo e em plantas de tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill), cultivadas sob diferentes sistemas de preparo do solo, foi realizado um trabalho no município de Paty do Alferes (RJ), entre os meses de agosto e dezembro de 1999. Foram instaladas parcelas do tipo Wischmeier (com coletores de enxurrada e sedimentos), com dimensões de 22,0 x 4,0 m, em um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo com 30 % de declividade. Cada tratamento consistiu de um tipo de sistema de preparo do solo: (a) preparo convencional: aração no sentido morro abaixo e queima dos restos vegetais (PC); (b) preparo em curvas de nível: aração com tração animal em nível com faixas de capim-colonião a cada 7,0 m (PN); (c) cultivo mínimo: apenas abertura de covas para plantio e conservação dos restos vegetais (CM). Foram coletadas amostras de solo e plantas de tomate, sendo analisados os teores de metais pesados nas amostras coletadas, a produtividade das plantas e a fertilidade do solo. A produtividade no cultivo mínimo foi significativamente inferior à de outros manejos, apesar de tal sistema favorecer a maior fertilidade do solo. Esse manejo também proporcionou maior acúmulo de metais pesados no solo, principalmente quando comparado ao plantio convencional. Com relação às plantas, a aplicação foliar de defensivos agrícolas favoreceu o maior acúmulo de metais pesados na parte aérea das plantas, e os teores de Cu e Zn estiveram acima dos limites permitidos para metais pesados em plantas. Os frutos produzidos nos três sistemas de preparo do solo apresentaram concentrações de Pb próximas ao limites permitidos para alimentos frescos.

O pequeno produtor está presente no contexto da produção agrícola que sustenta o Brasil, e sofre os primeiros impactos dessas substâncias sintéticas empregadas na manutenção da lavoura, o que foi motivação para propor o presente estudo. O objetivo geral deste estudo foi examinar o uso de pesticidas nos municípios de Miguel Pereira e Paty do Alferes, bem como avaliar o descarte de embalagens através da análise feita com grupos focais. A partir do estudo, percebeu-se correlação entre escolaridade do produtor e manuseio correto e menos deletério de pesticidas. Alguns produtores expuseram a necessidade de diversificação de culturas para sobrevivência de suas propriedades, tendo em vista a impossibilidade de aquisição de doses crescentes de agrotóxicos para a cultura do tomate. No entanto, sem a devida orientação técnica, não perceberam a possibilidade de contaminação do aquífero pelo uso de agrotóxicos, estão sujeitos às doenças do sistema nervoso central e podem bioacumular contaminantes.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar os principais fatores que influenciam na tomada de decisão dos jovens a ingressarem no Ensino Superior em uma Universidade Pública do município de Barra do Bugres-MT. O estudo foi realizado em duas escolas estaduais, uma localizada no perímetro urbano e outra, no perímetro rural. A metodologia estratégica de trabalho consistiu em uma análise qualitativa, privilegiando a análise das opiniões apresentadas pelos stakeholders. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi um questionário com 40 questões fechadas sobre o perfil dos participantes, seus interesses e expectativas determinantes da escolha do curso. Na análise se identificou que o principal fator influente na tomada de decisão dos jovens da E.E Reinaldo Dutra a cursarem ou não alguns dos cursos de graduação da UNEMAT foi a distância. Já os alunos da zona urbana (E.E Alfredo José), o fator prevalente mais comentado foi a oportunidade de emprego. Considera-se que os fatores citados representam um entrave que deve ser discutido com base nas políticas sociais vigentes, principalmente, as que enaltecem o acesso universal direcionado para a Universidade pública de qualidade. Desta forma, conclui-se que uma estratégia acessível e pertinente para minimizar a falta de informação a respeito do perfil do curso é a promoção de ações de extensão, que divulguem os cursos de graduação da UNEMAT, fundamentadas com explicações pontuais sobre as formas de ingresso e permanência do aluno na instituição, inserção de projetos com temáticas atrativas, envolvendo a comunidade e a escola, por meio da ascensão de feiras de ciências interdisciplinares.

El arte de andar en la naturaleza gira alrededor de la cuestión ética y política de, ¿cómo los hombres nos relacionamos con la naturaleza cuando recorremos caminos? La respuesta se nutre de la filosofía ecofeminista espiritual de Vandana Shiva, la cual considera, junto con comunidades indígenas, a la tierra como un ser vivo, con el cual el hombre tiene una conexión espiritual y no es solamente garante de su existencia mediante la explotación ilimitada. Se amplía la reflexión en torno a los modos de relacionarse el hombre con la comunidad de los seres vivos mediante la propuesta de la ética de la tierra elaborada por Carlos Alfredo Vargas. Como práctica artística y proyecto de investigación, el arte de andar es una experiencia vivencial cotidiana consciente en el caminar diferentes recorridos, durante la cual se establecen relaciones de diversos órdenes, explorando los procesos creativos a partir de sensaciones corporales gracias a la apertura del caminante a las fuerzas intempestivas que atraviesan y modifican su cuerpo, tomado como referencia el “cuerpo sin órganos”, categoría desarrollada por Gilles Deleuze y Félix Guattari. El andar diferentes territorios permite la resignificación simbólica de los lugares, no necesitando expresarse en materialidades; por el contrario, esta práctica es tan respetuosa que solamente deja huellas móviles y evanescentes.

Com o objetivo de avaliar a contaminação do solo, sedimentos, água e plantas por metais pesados, decorrente do uso de agroquímicos, na microbacia de Caetés em Paty do Alferes, RJ, amostras de solo foram analisadas, em 1996, para obter os teores totais de Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb e Zn de duas áreas com diferentes declividades (25% e 45%) tendo, ambas, como cobertura vegetal, capoeira, pasto e olericultura. Os resultados referentes aos solos sob pastagem (antiga área de olericultura) mostraram maiores teores de metais pesados do que a área de capoeira. Entretanto, esses valores não atingiram níveis críticos no solo, e esses elementos estavam presentes em formas químicas pouco disponíveis para absorção pelas plantas, como foi constatado na análise de metais pesados em tomate (Lycopersicum esculentum L.), pimentão (Capsicum annuum L.), repolho (Brassica oleracea L.) e pepino (Cucumis sativus L.), que apresentaram níveis baixíssimos desses elementos. Nas amostras de sedimentos, o comportamento dos metais pesados foi semelhante ao obtido nos solos, estando esses elementos distribuídos em maior porcentagem nas frações residual, ligadas a óxidos de Mn e Fe e ligadas à matéria orgânica. As amostras de água do córrego e do açude que cortam a microbacia apresentaram valores acima dos padrões internacionais com relação a Cd, Pb e Mn.

En la historiografía latinoamericana destacan los estudios sobre fiscalidad colonial de Herbert Klein, John TePaske, Carlos Marichal, Pedro Pérez Herrero, Antonio Serrano, Luis Jáuregui y otros que han contribuido a una mejor comprensión de la coyuntura económica de fines del siglo XVIII, y primeras décadas del siglo XIX -en particular para el área de Nueva España. Para el caso rioplatense disponemos de algunas obras como la de Tulio Halperín Donghi que estudió la fiscalidad para los años de la Independencia; y de un conjunto de trabajos de Samuel Amaral sobre las finanzas de la provincia de Buenos Aires en la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Otros autores han tomado casos provinciales, como Jorge Balán quien comparó las políticas impositivas de economías regionales en su período de expansión, el azúcar en Tucumán y la vitivinicultura en Mendoza en el último cuarto del siglo XIX. Para el período que nos ocupa disponemos de los trabajos de María Alejandra Irigoin, quien estudia la política monetaria y fiscal de la provincia de Buenos Aires en la década de 1850. La preocupación por entender el funcionamiento del sistema fiscal fue intensa en los años de la organización nacional; así llamó la atención de pensadores como Juan Bautista Alberdi, Mariano Fragueiro y Alfredo Bousquets, quien se ocupó del sistema rentístico de la provincia de Tucumán. Estos estudios, la mayoría de los cuales se basan en la estrecha e indiscutible relación entre economía y fiscalidad han contribuido a ilustrar mejor el desempeño económico en el pasado; no obstante, el análisis de los sistemas fiscales puede ser útil para iluminar aspectos poco estudiados del proceso de construcción y consolidación de la autoridad estatal. Por decirlo de un modo simple, convergen en la fiscalidad tres conjuntos de influencias; en primer lugar, existe una importante vinculación entre la actividad económica y la recaudación impositiva; por otra parte la capacidad de recaudar impuestos es un indudable indicador del poder alcanzado por el Estado frente a la sociedad; por último los sistemas fiscales se relacionan de un modo particular con la sociedad, mientras algunos regímenes se ajustan mejor a sociedades modernas, otros se adecuan a sociedades estamentales. <p class="Standard"><strong></strong>Objetivo: compreender como as enfermeiras vivenciam a ação de deliberação moral no cenário de prática. Método: pesquisa fenomenológica fundamentada no referencial de Alfred Schutz realizada mediante entrevistas com 12 enfermeiras de um Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência. Da análise ideográfica e nomotética foram obtidas as categorias concretas do vivido. Resultados: emergiram três categorias: significados da ação da deliberação moral das enfermeiras no atendimento pré-hospitalar móvel de urgência que se referem ao contexto do atendimento; o conhecimento técnico-científico como fundamento para a ação da deliberação moral; e a dimensão social das relações estabelecidas entre as equipes como fonte de problemas éticos. Conclusão: foram desvelados fatores que incidem na prática, revelando elementos que favorecem a deliberação, como as experiências do vivido, o compartilhamento das situações e os conflitos que demandam a tomada de decisão. ResumenLas informaciones que trasmiten los medios están sujetas a condicionantes externos. Asumimos que sus líneas editoriales marcan, de forma legítima, el camino a seguir, pero es evidente que restan neutralidad a los contenidos. La objetividad periodística se reduce a la teoría mientras, en la práctica diaria, son otros intereses ajenos al periodismo los que deciden el posicionamiento de las informaciones importantes. En este contexto general, los periodos preelectorales se entienden como momentos adecuados para investigar en qué grado y de qué forma los medios se decantan por una u otra candidatura. El interés aumenta si eliminamos de la ecuación el factor ideológico izquierda/derecha que condiciona per se a los medios y nos centramos en un proceso electoral interno de un partido político. En este estudio, hemos tomado como referencia el método elaborado por José Manuel de Pablos (2008) para evaluar la presencia de neutralidad y objetividad en una situación de ‘duelo mediático’. Este artículo estudia un total de 101 piezas informativas publicadas en el periódico El País, durante las tres semanas que precedieron a la elección del nuevo secretario general del PSOE, el día 5 de febrero de 2012, que enfrentó a Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba y Carme Chacón. La investigación demuestra el posicionamiento de El País, a través de sus textos periodísticos, a favor del candidato Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba.Abstract: News transmitted by media are submitted to external determining factors. We accept that leading journal lines set the contents in a legitimate way, but that, undoubtedly, means less neutrality. The objectivity about journalism and news coverage remains at a pure theory stage while, day by day, we observe how completely different objectives but nothing to do with journalism are accomplished by the know-how that media uses on its daily routine of telling news and events. In this general context, daily newspapers during pre-electoral campaigns turn up to be an irreplaceable way to investigate how they openly opt by one or another candidate. Interest is increased if we remove from equation the left/right (liberal-conservative) ideological factor which determines per se media behavior, and we focus only on an inside political party process. Our kick off point meets the method elaborated by J. M. de Pablos (2008) as to evaluate the objectivity and neutrality in news related to a media represented duel. This paper analyzes 101 news pieces, extracted from El País, written publication, during the three previous weeks to elect a new Head Representative for PSOE, on February, the 5th, who brought Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba and Carme Chacón face to face. As cooperativas de crédito visam alcançar o desenvolvimento financeiro e econômico, de igual proporção aos associados, além de buscar prosperidade regional onde operam. A Coopcred é uma cooperativa de crédito, fundada por médicos em 1998, que se expandiu rapidamente chegando em 2018 com 12.000 associados, pessoas físicas e jurídicas das áreas da saúde, contábil, educação, construção civil e empresários em geral. Com perfis diferentes, Alfredo, o diretor financeiro, mais conservador, defendia a manutenção da tradição e cultura da cooperativa, temendo o risco de baixar as reservas cambiais da instituição, enquanto Jorge, o diretor executivo, de ideias arrojadas, defendia a implantação de novas tecnologias, ampliação e modernização das agências, sem medo de correr alguns riscos. Após dois exercícios consecutivos de fechamento positivo e sobras a serem distribuídas aos associados, o exercício de 2017 não foi animador, sem sobras a serem distribuídas. O caso visa proporcionar uma reflexão acerca da contabilidade gerencial de uma cooperativa de crédito, a fim de analisar as demonstrações contábeis para a tomada de decisões e gerenciamento de resultados. Propõe-se sua aplicação nas disciplinas de Contabilidade Gerencial e Administração Financeira, em cursos de graduação e pós-graduação em Administração e Ciências Contábeis.
