Abstract:
In turbomachinery, extra excitation forces may result from non-idealised operation conditions and may sometime cause excessive vibrations and unsteady rotor motions. The goal of this thesis is to investigate the effects of such excitation forces. The extra excitation forces investigated here are the Thomas/Alford force due to the blade tip clearance change, the steam excitation force caused by the variation of inlet steam speed and state blade trailing wake and the dominant magnetic pull force due to dynamic eccentricity of the rotor. The main research results in this thesis include: (1) The modelling of the Jeffcott rotor and the 600MW steam-turbine generator. The used in-house ??transient?? program can only handle the circular short bearings with the modified short bearing method while the simulated steam-turbine should be supported by tilting pad bearings. The first critical speeds of systems supported by tilting pad bearings are more approaching to the lab data for all four rotor models while that of journal bearing supported systems are normally lower than the real operating critical speed. (2) Applying three sorts of excitation forces into the single-stage rotor-bearing system. The numerical simulation shows that for the model with each single excitation force, all of these three forces need to reach some limit to force the system into the unsteady state. For all the three forces, higher limits are needed if the machine runs at lower running speeds. Furthermore, unbalance loading also can influence the system behaviours. As the unbalance increases, the system will still stay steady while the spectra become noisier, though the amplitude still low comparing to harmonics. (3) Combing three types of excitation forces into the assembled rotor-bearing system. The numerical simulation shows that the assembled system presents similar vibration responses as the single stage rotor-bearing system. Furthermore, these three forces cannot cancel each other and the combination will unstabilise the system. Meanwhile, the influence of the dominant magnetic pull force is less than other two forces.

Abstract:
The process of coset enumeration has become a significant factor in group theoretical investigations since the advent of modern computing power, but in some respects the process is still not well understood. This thesis investigates some features of coset enumeration, working mainly with the group F(2,7). Chapter 1 describes the characteristics of coset enumeration and algorithms used for it. A worked example of the method is provided. Chapter 2 discusses some features which would be desirable in computer programs for use in investigating the coset enumeration process itself, and reviews the Havas/Alford program which to date best meets the requirements. Chapter 3 deals with the use of coset ammeration in proofs, either in its own right or as a basis for other workings. An example of one attempt to obtain a proof by coset enumeration is given. Chapter 4 reviews techniques designed to reduce the length of coset enumerations and proposes the 'equality list' technique as a way to reduce enumeration length for some groups. Extra insights obtainable using the equality list method are also discussed. Chapter 5 summarises the factors by which the success of different coset enumerations can be compared and proposes an algorithm for making systematic comparisons among enumerations. Chapter 6 reports five coset enumerations, obtained manually by three main methods on the group F(2,7). All these enumerations were shorter than is so far obtainable by machine and one is shorter than other known hand enumerations. The enumerations were compared by applying the process developed in Chapter 5. Chapter 7 presents a shorter proof of the cyclicity of the group F(2,7) than was hitherto available. The proof derives from the workings for one of the coset enumerations described in Chapter 6. There are eight appendices and an annotated bibliography. The appendices contain, inter alia, edited correspondence between well-known coset-enumerators, a guide to the Havas/Alford program, further details on the equality list method and listings of various enumerations.

En el presente informe de Seminario de Grado se analizará la obra "Ubú Rey" de Alfred Jarry bajo distintas nociones que existen sobre lo cómico y lo grotesco. Esto con el fin de demostrar en qué medida dicha obra alberga conceptos contradictorios y heterogéneos (provenientes de distintas fuentes y tradiciones) y como se manifiestan de manera yuxtapuesta o coinciden entre sí. Para ello se hará una introducción previa, donde se analizará la relación entre conceptos alejados como lo son la comicidad y la violencia, y veremos cómo se despliegan en ciertas obras clásicas del arte dramático, según las teorías de W. Kayser, H. Bergson y M. Bajtín. Así se creará un marco del cual se podrá estudiar a Ubú Rey y distinguir sus diversos matices. Finalmente, con esta información se comprobará la importancia que "Ubú Rey" para el desarrollo del arte teatral y dramático del siglo XX.

Abstract:

As we are flying over Gävle we spot beneath us a big, rectangle, green field. This immediately catches our attention and awakens our curiosity of finding out the purpose and the function of this green field.

Gefle IF is a Swedish soccer team that finds it difficult both to promote itself in a marketing meaning but also just to make people aware of their existence. They tend to be looked at as boring. By studying the culture within Gefle IF and finding out what affect the coach Per Olsson’s leadership has on the team, we will try to give our suggestions of certain changes that could be done to change this. By doing so our hopes are that we can help the team pursue its wishes of being seen by the media and the public. Characteristic of team culture is that it is very unique. The ormation of an organization’s culture is highly affected by factors like the organization as such and it’s character, but also the surroundings and the character of participants and collaborators. According to the coach Per Olsson, the team operates in a positive spirit and points out that they are constantly working on assuring it’s future existence. Good leadership is defined by Soccer coach Hans Backe as working on a long term basis and not to be distracted by obstacles on the road to pursuing one’s goals. A coach must never panic when good results are replaced with bad ones, if you believe in your strategy the results will come eventually. Per Olsson share this point of view as he tries to be consistent in his actions and behavior and not to be distracted by the results or lack there of. Every organization has a/one surroundings in which it operates and with which it tries to cooperate. Any kind of change affecting the surroundings and it’s attitudes will have impact on the organization and it’s structure. Yannick Bapupa has an impact on the team and it’s environment since he started playing in Gefle IF. He has got a charisma and an attitude that has brought postitive changes to the team. More changes like the ones Yannick has added to the team would be favorable to the team in their pursuit of becoming more attractive and interesting in the eyes of the public.


Vi flyger över en stad och ser från luften en stor, rektangulär, grön plätt. Genast blir vi nyfikna på vad denna plätt kan ha för funktion och bestämmer oss för att undersöka saken närmare.

Gefle IF är ett allsvenskt lag som verkar ha det svårt att synas och kan upplevas som försiktiga och tråkiga. Genom att studera Gefle IF:s lagkultur och hur tränaren Per Olssons ledarskap påverkar laget ska vi ge förslag på förändringar som kan genomföras för att göra laget mer attraktivt och intressant. Gemensamt för all organisationskultur är att den är mycket unik. Faktorer som organisationens typ och egenart, likväl omgivningen och medarbetarnas typ och egenart, spelar en viktig roll när organisationskulturen formas. Enligt Per jobbar de mycket med en positiv anda och attityd. I en resultat präglad miljö så är andan och attityden väldigt viktig. Därför är det viktigt att höra strömmingarna i kommunikationen mellan spelarna, att lära sig lyssna av hur snacket går. Ett sätt att definiera bra ledarskap enligt fotbollstränaren Hans Backe är att arbeta långsiktigt och inte låta dig distraheras på vägen mot målet. Få aldrig panik över mindre goda resultat. Tror man på strategin kommer resultaten till slut. En syn som Per Olsson delar där han ser det viktigt att inte vara så upptagen av resultatet. Han försöker vara konsekvent i sitt uppträdande och hålla en linje. Varje organisation har en omgivning som den lever i ett samspel med. Om det sker förändringar som påverkar omgivningen och dess attityder kommer det naturligtvis få genomslagskrafter i organisationen. Yannick Bapupa har påverkat laget och omgivningen sedan han började spela i Gefle IF. Han har en utstrålning och attityd som har förändrat laget positivt. Flera sådana förändringar skulle vara gynnsamt för laget för att göra laget mer attraktivt och intressant.

Resumo: O objetivo desta pesquisa é demonstrar que a atenção de Hitchcock aos confrontos, tanto no tratamento dos temas quanto na construção dos personagens, está presente em diferentes articulações narrativas que desenvolveu, assim destacadas: No primeiro capítulo, a reflexão objetiva demonstrar que os personagens são construídos de modo a viverem o confronto entre culpa e inocência, e que esse perfil narrativo aciona o espectador perante diferentes inflexões de identificação com os personagens. No segundo capítulo, o objetivo é explorar o mecanismo que articula ocultação e revelação de informações tanto de personagens quanto do espectador, apontando como o diretor radicaliza as relações interrogantes, de engano e de ambigüidades e, nesse particular, como o nexo entre desvendamento e dissimulação aciona o suspense. No terceiro capítulo, a reflexão aponta para duas questões centrais, vinculadas à atenção do diretor para o nexo entre a imagem e o som, como o deslocamento da câmera de um diálogo para depositar-se em outra ação, sem diálogo. Simultaneamente, sua atenção à fonte sonora ganhará destaque, na fase muda e sonora de sua obra, na medida em que o ponto de vista assume ora a posição de ponto de escuta, ora a posição de silêncio. No quarto e último capítulo, a reflexão está centrada na maneira pela qual Hitchcock explora o corpo, de forma a traçar na superfície corpórea um tensionamento de várias ordens, desde a carga de injusta condenação até os desdobramentos morais de seus atos, elaboração que constitui um exercício estético na direção da construção de um corpo que demonstra, em sua presença, em seu gesto e em seu timing, um caráter eminentemente visual e, por isso, cinematográfico. Abstract: The objective of this research is to demonstrate that Hitchcock¿s attention to confrontations, both in the treatment of themes and in the construction of characters, is present in different narrative structures that he developed, in this manner highlighted. The first chapter shows that characters are built so as to live the confrontation between guilt and innocence, and that this narrative profile affects viewers through different inflexions of identification with characters.In the second chapter, the objective is to explore the mechanism that integrates the hiding and revelation of information both from characters and from viewers, indicating how the director radicalizes doubtful, misleading and ambiguous relationships and, in this respect, how the link between disclosure and dissimulation feeds suspense. The third chapter goes towards two core questions, related to the attention of the director to the link between image and sound, as the camera moves from one dialogue to set on another action, without dialogue. At the same time, Hitchcock¿s attention to sound sources will gain prominence as the point-of-view is sometimes in the listening position and other times in the silent position, even in his silent movies. Finally, the fourth and last chapter is centered on the way Hitchcock explores the body, outlining on the corporal surface many orders of tension, from the burden of unfair conviction to the moral consequences of one¿s acts, an elaboration that is an esthetical exercise towards building a body that shows, in its presence, in its gestures, and in its timing, an eminently visual feature and, for this reason, cinematographic. The investigation, by exploring the different narrative mechanisms of the director, indicates the visual priority that he assigned to the confrontations present in the themes and characters chosen for his movies

Alfred Hitchcock, le réalisateur des plus grands films à suspense de l’histoire du cinéma, s’avère être aussi le réalisateur de grands films d’amour. De film en film, revient chez lui l’idée qu’il est vital pour chaque héros, homme ou femme, de faire couple. C’est grâce à cette union que le héros solitaire, immature et égocentrique, menacé de mort, accusé le plus souvent d’un crime qu’il n’a pas commis, sera en mesure d’affronter toutes les épreuves de la vie. Cette idée est si présente que nous la qualifions d’obsédante. Chez Hitchcock, comme dans les contes de fées, c’est grâce à son union avec l’autre que le héros, qui n’a pas encore atteint une maturité suffisante, pourra devenir adulte. De plus, la sécurité affective qu’il pourra trouver dans son couple sera seule en mesure d’apaiser véritablement ses angoisses. Tout au long de sa carrière, Alfred Hitchcock resta fidèle à son idée de l’amour montrant que l’homme et la femme, en s’unissant, parviennent à se sauver d’une existence vide de sens. C’est dans ses très nombreuses scènes de baiser qu’Alfred Hitchcock a su le mieux exprimer son idée du couple. Ces scènes célèbrent l’union tant espérée entre son héros et son héroïne, mais racontent aussi toutes les difficultés qu’ils peuvent avoir à vivre leur amour. A Hollywood, Hitchcock réalisa davantage de films d’amour et respecta les règles esthétiques implicitement instaurées depuis les années 1920 pour ces scènes, mais le cinéaste créa rapidement son propre style. Alfred Hitchcock, the director of the biggest thrillers of the cinema history, turns out to be also the director of big romances. It is vital for every hero, man or woman, to make couple; it’s the recurring idea of his movies. It is thanks to this union that the lonely hero, immature and egocentric, threatened with death, in most of cases accused of a murder which he did not commit, will be able to face every trial of life. This idea is so current in Hitchcock’s that we describe it as obsessive. In Hitchcock’s, as in fairy tales, it is thanks to his union with the other that the hero, who has not reached a sufficient maturity yet, can become an adult. Furthermore, only the emotional security which he can find in his couple will be really able to calm his fears. Throughout his career, Alfred Hitchcock stood by his idea of love showing that the man and the woman by bringing together succeed in saving each other from a meaningless existence. In his very numerous kiss scenes, Alfred Hitchcock clearly expresses his idea of the couple. These scenes celebrate the so hoped union between his hero and his heroine, and tell how they have difficulty living their love. In Hollywood, Hitchcock directed more romances and complied with the esthetic rules implicitly laid down since the 1920’s for these scenes, but quickly the filmmaker created his own style. Concerning the Hays code, we observed that things are more complicated than what is usually told, especially about the famous kiss scene in "Notorious"

Si Alfred Cortot se définit comme interprète de Frédéric Chopin, c'est non seulement comme pianiste mais aussi comme théoricien. Le travail d'exégèse qu'il mène, notamment au travers de nombreux écrits, est le corrélat de toute exécution instrumentale. Notre recherche a ainsi pour objet de montrer comment ces deux acceptions du terme " interprétation " se complètent et suscitent un dialogue fructueux entre la concrétude d'un objet sonore et l'abstraction d'une pensée. Cela suppose de considérer non seulement la manière dont Cortot nous donne à réfléchir, en tant que biographe, sur une image particulière de Chopin et de sa musique, mais aussi le procédé par lequel il passe d'une formalisation théorique à une concrétisation de sa pensée dans et par l'interprétation. Notre travail s'organise selon trois axes : un examen des méthodes historiographiques employées par Cortot, une étude de sa démarche herméneutique - en particulier dans l'édition de travail des œuvres de Chopin - et enfin une analyse de quelques enregistrements des Préludes op. 28.

Abstract:
The thesis uses close textual analysis to study and evaluate the television work of Alfred Hitchcock. The corpus consists of the twenty shows personally directed by Hitchcock, including his appearances before and after those shows. In response to most previous writing, which tends to compare the programmes with Hitchcock’s films (often unfairly) the thesis emphasises them as products of television. Programmes are evaluated on the basis of their perceived success as television- if they harness conditions related to television production and integrate them with narrative themes or to create meaning. Hitchcock is considered to be the major creative force in each programme. Chapter One provides a variety of important contexts including a brief history of US television of the 1950s, key literature on Hitchcock and analyses of contemporaneous programmes not directed by Hitchcock. The textual analysis chapters (2-8) consider aesthetic or thematic programme aspects. Chapter Two studies the various roles played by Hitchcock’s appearances as series host. Chapter Three considers the impact of censorship on programmes frequently dealing with murder, violence and insanity. Chapter Four analyses Hitchcock’s implementation of varieties of voice-over narration, a common device in short dramatic forms. Chapter Five studies Hitchcock’s use of point-of-view shots, particularly in relation to their role in the delivery of the narrative twist. Chapter Six considers the key Hitchcock theme of detachment from the world. Chapter Seven looks at moments from the programmes which demonstrate how aesthetic is influenced by television production conditions. Hitchcock created a number of television masterpieces. His achievements in television are in many ways comparable in quality and consistency to his theatrical films. Even when considered in the context of other 1950s US anthology dramas, the Hitchcock-directed programmes are superior on many levels. Elements of his film style were highly suited to television production. Many of his greatest achievements embrace and harness television production conditions in their presentation strategies to create an integration of style and meaning.

D'abord sont traitées les réactions de jeunesse de Vigny face à l'antiromantisme de l'Académie sous la Monarchie de juillet et ses candidatures de 1842 et 1844, avec les motifs de sa persévérance malgré les obstacles (tome I, 1ere partie). Puis est analysé le processus qui mena de son élection au scandale de sa réception, sous le regard de la presse et au travers de son élaboration des mémoires (tome I, 2eme partie). Ensuite est présentée une synthèse de ses activités d'académicien : son attitude lors des élections, son action dans l'attribution des prix académiques, ses opinions sur le rapport entre le pouvoir et les lettres (tome II). Enfin sont publiés, avec annotations, les papiers académiques de Vigny de 1846 à 1863, d'après les manuscrits conservés dans les archives Sangnier, à la Bibliothèque nationale et à l'Institut (tome III)
This thesis studies reasons for which Vigny, who had hard opinions toward the academy, and joined it with difficulty, after six unsuccessful candidatures and a stormy reception, he became such an assidus and active academician that it dedicated prolific pieces of writing to his work under the "Coupole". First the reactions of the yoUng Vigny face to the antiromanticism of academy under the "Monarchie de Juillet" and his 1842 and 1844 candidatures are discussed as well as the motives of his perseverance in spite of obstacles (volume i, first part). The process which let from his election to his outrageous reception is analyzed, through the responses of the press and through the elaboration of his memoires (volume I, second part). Later a synthesis of his academic activities is expounded: his attitude during elections, his action, in the awarding of academic prizes, his opinions on the link between political power and literature (volume II). Finally Vigny’s academic works from 1846 to 1863 are published with notes, according to manuscripts kept in Sangnier' records, in the "Bibliothèque nationale" and in the "Institut" (volume III)

Användning av bilderböcker är vanligt förekommande på förskolor och är med och bidrar till hur barn uppfattar världen. Därför kan det tänkas viktigt att pedagoger är medvetna om vad olika bilderböcker förmedlar för syn till barnen. I denna uppsats studeras Alfonsböckerna, som räknas som populära bilderböcker, utifrån anknytningsteorin. Syftet är att synliggöra vilket/vilka anknytningsmönster som kan sägas dominera i bilderböcker. Anknytningsmönster är ett begrepp inom anknytningsteorin som handlar om de strategier barn använder för att få så mycket närhet som möjligt från de vuxna som vårdar dem. Metoden som används i denna uppsats är innehållsanalysen, vilken används både kvantitativt och kvalitativt. Innehållsanalysen, som kan användas då syftet är att kartlägga innehållet i en text, används i denna uppsats med syftet att olika sorters anknytningsmönster ska kunna identifieras. Analysen av Alfonsböckerna visar att olika sorters anknytningsmönster är synliga i böckerna och att det undvikande anknytningsmönstret kan sägas dominera (är vanligast förekommande). Det finns en förhoppning om att denna uppsats ska kunna inspirera vuxna bilderboksläsare att börja reflektera kring vad olika bilderböcker egentligen förmedlar ur anknytningssynpunkt.

Abstract:
My research explores Alfred Hitchcock’s use of adaptation and the impact that this has on his status as an ‘auteur’. The aim, through looking at a cross section of his work, is to produce the basis for an adaptation model that could be used to examine his entire body of work, accounting for all influences, extratextual references, intertextualities, sequels, remakes and most importantly, other authors. By exploring Hitchcock’s use of the theatrical (a subject that is often ignored) and his lesser earlier films, we can begin to form the foundations for this model. By looking at his adaptation of a particular author and the textual evolution of one of his most iconic films, we are able to put this model to the test. Chapter one is the introduction, which looks at Hitchcock’s status within cinematic history, while also examining the current state of Hitchcock scholarship, auteur theory and adaptations studies. Chapter two examines the theatrical adaptations of Hitchcock’s British period, specifically shining light upon texts that are often ignored or maligned by theoretical study. Chapter three discusses the American theatrical adaptations, specifically looking at the role of the ‘meta-text’ and Hitchcock’s fascination with recreating the theatrical. Chapter four explores Hitchcock’s relationship with Daphne du Maurier, examining his adaptation of her work, overall themes, characters and ideologies. This chapter also presents an original reading of The Birds, which examines how Hitchcock’s film is more indebted to Du Maurier’s novels than her shot story of avian horror. Chapter five examines the evolution of Psycho. Hitchcock’s adaptation of, amongst others, Robert Bloch and Henri-Georges Clouzot will be discussed, as will the multiple sequels, remakes and exploitations that, in turn, adapt his own film. It will be argued that these texts are in fact adapting Psycho’s influences and origins as much as the film itself. Chapter six is the conclusion where the findings are analysed and the model of adaptation, which positions Hitchcock at the centre as a collector of texts is discussed. In occupying this position the notion of him as an ‘auteur’ is erased and instead he becomes the ‘Master of Adaptation’.
