Abstract:
According to Alderfer's ERG Theory (Existence-Relatedness-Growth Theory), which is known as “ERG” theory in the literature, people have three basic needs. These needs are "Existence", "Relationship" and "Development". The International Istanbul Kodaly Training Days, the second of which is held in 2019, can be described as a vocational training in a sense. In this study; According to Alderfer's ERG Theory, the extent to which the needs of music teachers to improve themselves in their profession was met by attending Kodaly training days was investigated. With the ERG Theory of Alderfer, professional professional needs of teachers and Kodaly training days are in a positive and direct relationship. The research was carried out with a relational research model, which is one of the descriptive research models, and it was aimed to determine the level of professional satisfaction of the music educators who participated in the Kodaly Training Days and to examine them in terms of some variables. As a result of the study, it was seen that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the participants' professional satisfaction scale. As a result, it can be said that International Kodaly Training Days increase the professional satisfaction of the participants.

Abstract:
Social science theories are expressive acts by their authors, and thus reflect their authors' life experiences and developmental tasks. Maslow's theory of human motivation and Alderfer's conception of existence, relatedness, and growth (ERG) needs are frameworks accounting for the same phenomena. An alternative to Maslow's formulation, ERG theory was presented during a later historical period than its predecessor, and at an earlier stage of its author's life. In this autobiographical account, the author describes his childhood and adolescent origins and the events that led him to formulate ERG theory, examines the life stages at which he and Maslow developed their theories, and discusses how aspects of the authors' lives might account for similarities and differences in their conceptual products.

Abstract:
Individuals in South African are experiencing increasing financial stressed due to the deterioration in the economy and restrictions imposed by the National Credit Act, No. 43 of 2005. The paper investigates the financial needs addressed by users of credit products. Human needs are firstly classified according to Alderfer’s ERG theory. Hereafter financial needs which individuals addressed when using credit products were analysed. The results indicate that consumers are also using credit products to address other financial needs than that for which the products were developed for. This could be partly due to the limitation in accessing appropriate credit products due to the requirements imposed by the credit legislation.

Botha, Annerie. "Analysing South African individuals' behaviour regarding liability usages." Diss., 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/18988.

Full text
Abstract:
In South Africa household debt has increased rapidly over the past few years, therefore illustrating the importance of analysing liability usage behaviour of individual members within the household. In order to comprehend the behaviour of South Africans regarding liability usages, this study provides insight into why individuals find it necessary to obtain liability products as well as to indicate whether liability products are used to address the financial needs for the purpose it was developed for. To achieve the aim of this study, it was firstly necessary to develop a theoretical framework for the process of selecting credit products when satisfying financial needs. Secondly, the characteristics and intended usage purposes of different credit products available in South Africa were discussed and a debt classification framework was developed. Finally, data obtained from the Finscope South Africa survey was analysed according to the developed frameworks following a combination of two approaches. Firstly, a qualitative approach was used to identify the different financial needs which are satisfied when using liabilities. The financial needs identified were classified according to Alderfer’s existence relatedness growth (ERG) theory and the factors that have an influence on liability usage. Secondly, a quantitative approach was followed to indicate which financial needs are fulfilled when using different credit products. The results of this study suggest that individuals do not use liabilities only for the purpose what the products were originally developed for. The findings clearly indicated that individuals mainly use liabilities to satisfy basic needs which are classified as existence needs according to Alderfer’s ERG theory. Based on the data analysis a variety of factors such as access to credit and certain demographic characteristics have an influence on liability usage behaviour of individuals. The results further show that individuals mainly use informal, unsecured, short-term loans when satisfying their financial needs which might indicate that South Africans are unable to access formal credit products.

Alli, Zaheer. "The role of female principals as transformational leaders to improve schools in the uMgungundlovu District, Kwazulu-Natal." Diss., 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/27019.

Abstract:
South African history clearly illuminates the idea that women are regarded as unequal when compared to their male counterparts. Hence, women in general have been marginalized, especially when it comes to advancing in the workplace. Women are often defined in relation to motherhood, caring for others and for providing the necessities for sustenance. Society today has not moved very far from this idea. This is the reason why women often suffer a disadvantage when it comes to being appointed in leadership positions in South African education, even though the legislation makes provision for gender balance in South African education. This study examined the role of female principals as transformational leaders to improve schools in the uMgungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal. A qualitative investigation at three schools in the uMgungundlovu District was conducted. Nine participants were selected and data was collected by means of in-depth interviews and document analysis was done as a method of data collection. The findings of the study revealed that female leaders are taking a stand in education and are successfully implementing strategies to improve their schools. The study recommends that future female leaders are empowered at the beginning of their careers and they should learn skills that empower them so there are no excuses for being side lined when it comes to leadership positions.
