Full textThe Zhuangzi, a major work of ancient China, is an important reference for imperial Taoism. Inner alchemy, the main Taoist path to transcendence since the 11th century, offers a reading of the Zhuangzi that this work aims at studying. In order to reveal the singular face of the Zhuangzi of the alchemists, our thesis takes as its focal point the Nanhua zhenjing zhushu 南華真經註疏 by Cheng Yining 程以寧 (fl. 1633-1637), a commentary that reads the entire work from an alchemical paradigm, thus making a gesture of definite originality that is also part of the long process of acclimatizing the Zhuangzi to the world of immortality seekers
