Abstract:
Appropriate coding when providing skilled therapy interventions for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) begins by obtaining an adequate understanding of the diagnostic criteria for the disorder. Current diagnostic criteria for MCI include: a. reported change in cognition, which is preferably corroborated by an informant in comparison with previous level with concern of patient, family, or clinician with one or more impaired cognitive domains for age and education. b. decline which is evident over time and greater than expected for age and education in a variety of domains including memory, executive function, attention, language, visuospatial skills, and episodic memory. c. not normal, not demented. d. intact activities of daily living (Albert et al., 2011). Individual may present with mild problems with complex tasks such as paying bills, preparing a meal, and shopping and may require more time and be less efficient, with more errors during tasks.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractObjectiveTo assess the adequacy of milk and alternatives, Ca and vitamin D intakes in First Nations (FN) youth in Ontario, Canada. Intakes were compared with the general population and dietary standards. Variation in intakes by community (proxy for remoteness) and BMI was examined.DesignData were collected by 24 h recall between November 2003 and June 2010. Intakes were analysed descriptively. Variation in intakes, by community and BMI category, was assessed using ANOVA.SettingFive remote FN communities of the Mushkegowuk Territory (northern Ontario, Canada) and two less-remote southern Ontario FN communities.SubjectsSchoolchildren (n457) in grades 6 to 12.ResultsCompared with Canada's Food Guide recommendations, 72·6 to 84·7 % had an inadequate intake of milk and alternatives depending on age and sex group; 86·2 % of individuals fell below the RDA for Ca; 96·4 % fell below the RDA for vitamin D. Community variation in intakes was detected, although in all cases Fort Albany had higher intakes, even when it was the more northern (remote) community. A BMI × sex interaction was found for intake of milk and alternatives (P= 0·041): an inverse relationship between intake and BMI was seen in females; in males, those who were overweight had the highest intake, followed by normal-weight and obese youth.ConclusionsThe nutritional inadequacies parallel the results of other Canadian studies of Aboriginal populations. Population health interventions to improve intakes are warranted. Moreover, community variation in intakes exists among FN youth in the present study (Fort Albany pairs only), but results were not as expected.

The content of microbes in the cavity of the pregnant uterus could have been detected by Albert (Arch. F. G., Bd. 125, H. 3) during an abortion by a small Caesar section. The author believes that the vagina always contains microbes that can infect the cervix and the uterine cavity at any time; in some cases, this infection, after a short and mild acute period, can go into a latent state, during which pregnancy is possible.

Abstract:
Cognitive decline has commonly been considered an inevitable result of brain aging and has been of clinical interest principally because of related difficulties with everyday functioning. Since the 1990s the “normality” of age-related cognitive decline has been called into question, being commonly attributed to a number of underlying disorders. Numerous concepts have been proposed which link subclinical cognitive change to pathological states (mild cognitive disorder, mild neurocognitive disorder, mild cognitive impairment). Of these, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has become the most popular, driven on the one hand by industrial interests seeking to extend new dementia treatments for a more prevalent subclinical syndrome, and on the other by researchers attempting to identify at-risk populations. MCI has been both criticized for “medicalizing” behavior still within normal limits (Stephan et al., 2008; Moreira et al., 2008) and welcomed in that it suggests cognitive decline with aging may not be inevitable, but rather due to abnormalities which could ultimately be treated. Recently, in both Europe (DuBois et al., 2007) and the USA (Albert et al., 2011), panels of experts have scrutinized the concept of MCI and more broadly the pre-dementia stages of neurodegenerative diseases and offered new research diagnostic criteria. These proposed criteria have highlighted the (potential) value of biomarkers in assisting diagnosis, although some have considered the elevation of biomarkers to this level of importance in diagnosing disease before dementia develops to be premature given both the extent and quality of diagnostic biomarker data currently available (McShane et al., 2011a; 2011b).

Abstract:
Background: Christmas Eye Disease (CED), also known as the “Albury-Wodonga syndrome” or “Harvester's Keratitis”, is a seasonal acute corneal ulceration syndrome, which is geographically limited to Australia, specifically in the south-west region of New South Wales (NSW) and north-east region of Victoria. The mechanism of injury is unknown, but the secretions from native beetles of the genus Orthoperus have been implicated. There remains a dearth of literature on CED, particularly with atypical disease presentations. We present the first reported case of CED in the upper Blue Mountains Region, presenting atypically with mild pain and foreign body sensation. We also aim to explore the possible entomological precipitants of the disease. Case Presentation: A 77-year-old man with a 1-day history of a mildly painful red eye was found to have acute corneal ulceration. He experienced mild discomfort in his right eye while asleep and woke the following morning with persistent blur, foreign body sensation, and photophobia. He had no history of ocular trauma or chemical exposure. He reported going for daily bushwalks in the upper Blue Mountains region but did not recall any exposure to environmental or entomological precipitants. Clinical Findings and Outcomes: Slit-lamp examination revealed a substantial corneal epithelial loss in the right eye with fluorescein staining, revealing a characteristic ‘green splash’ over 90% of the cornea. Other clinical findings included marked corneal edema, moderate conjunctival injection, mild palpebral swelling, and mild papillae. No anterior uveitis was observed, and the posterior segment examination was normal. There was a considerable reduction in his right visual acuity from baseline. He was empirically treated with 1% tropicamide ocular drops, 1% chloramphenicol ointment, and lubricant ocular drops. The bacterial and viral conjunctival swabs were unremarkable. Clinical progression was self-limiting, and complete resolution of the ulcer was achieved after one month. Conclusion: CED is a clinical diagnosis, and medical practitioners should be aware of atypical features, such as the absence of debilitating pain. Additionally, our case demonstrates that the geographic distribution of CED appears to be far more extensive than previously thought, thereby raising the possibility of disease manifestation in regions not commonly associated with it. Entomological precipitants of this condition remain circumstantial and warrant further validation.

Abstract: Egg white proteins are extensively used as processed food because of their functional properties, as gelation and foam formation. Depending on the storage conditions, some physical, microbiological, chemical and functional changes may occur. Functional food properties may be preserved when foods are coated by edible films, since both the loss of moisture and the transport of O2 and CO2 are reduced. The objectives of this work were quantify the weight loss, the Haugh unit and the pH contents of s-ovalbumin in the albumen, determining changes in the stability of egg white foam, in the texture profile and in the expressible moisture of fresh egg white gels and eggs coated or not by whey protein concentrate 0NPc), under six storage periods (3, 7, 10, 14,21 and 28 days), at 25°C. During the storage period, independently of the coating, values of Haugh unit, weight loss and albumen pH decreased, and the differences among the values from the first to the last period were lower in the coated eggs. The Haugh unit values for coated eggs were similar to those found in bibliographic references when the same storage period is considered. For the six storage periods, the volumes of drained liquid in non-coated eggs were higher (P< 0.01). In the 3rd day the difference between the coated and the non-coated egg was 59%, and after 28 days that difference increased up to 202%. In the non-coated eggs, values of pH and volume of drained liquid increased during the storage. The content of s-ovalbumin was higher in the non-coated than in the coated eggs, independently of the storage period (P < 0.01). After 3 days, the content of s-ovalbumin was 38% higher than in the coated eggs, and after 28 days the difference between the values was 205%. In the coated eggs, stored at 25°C, the pH was around 8, and the content of s-ovalbumin remained in 20%; after 28 days, the value increased to 27%. A positive correlation was found between the content of s-ovalbumin and the volume of drained liquid (R2 = 0.92 for coated eggs, and R2 = 0.94 for non-coated eggs). When the content of s-ovalbumin increased, the volume of drained liquid also increased, and the foam stability decreased. Hardness of the albumen gel of non-coated eggs was higher than the coated eggs, during the whole storage period. For the non-coated eggs, the storage period did not affect the hardness of the gels, but for the coated eggs, a linear regression explained 60% of the behavior of the hardness as a function of the storage period. When considering the gel elasticity, no interaction was found between the storage period and the egg coating. Non-coated eggs exhibited gels with higher springiness than coated eggs. The same was found for the cohesiveness index and the gel chewiness, independently of the storage periods. However, the opposite was observed for the percentage of expressible moisture, where the values for coated eggs were higher than for non-coated eggs

Grain legumes are considered one of the best vegetable protein sources. Being cultivated for about 4000 years, lupin is a plant like soya, bean or lentil. There are several species of lupin; three of them most cultivated come from Mediterraneum. Some species of lupin (Lupinus albus) have about 10% of energy given by its oil content and about 40% of protein, similar to the values found in soya. The quality of several food products may be refined by vegetable supplementation being lupin a good candidate for this function. It includes a better digestibility, greater fiber content and good yield in both different climates and soils. An experiment using sweet lupin in form of flour in order to develop a kind of food called shake, which has a great variety of studies and researches interested in nutritional, versatile and tasteful products, establishing suitable conditions for their formulation, becomes interesting not only to enlarge the lupin industrial perspective use as food supplement (a low cost alternative protein source) but also to promote innovation in food market. Its formulation is still composed of whole milk powder and maltodextrin whose interactions were studied by utilizing experimental centroid simplex outlining for mixture modelling. Sensorial analysis results obtained by statistical analysis of variance showed preference (crescent order) to the following formulations: whole milk powder and maltodextrin; whole milk powder; maltodextrin; husky unfattened sweet lupin flour, whole milk powder and maltodextrin; husky unfattened sweet lupin flour and whole milk powder; husky unfattened sweet lupin flour and maltodextrin; husky unfattened sweet lupin flour.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Isaac Mayer Wise’s 1850 journey to Charleston. This was in a period which has been described as the golden age of Charleston Jewry. In his Reminiscences, Wise attributes his journey south to the state of his health following the death of his daughter in the previous summer. The Charleston congregation later elected Wise for a probationary term of two years as their minister. Wise’s dealings with Charleston, though far from being the origin or the sole cause of the dissensions surrounding his position in Albany, added to the poison in the atmosphere. In Charleston he unfurled his colours as a reformer without any equivocation, which was grist to the mill of enemies who professed concern for Orthodoxy. By accepting election to the Charleston rabbinate he broke his contract with Albany. By accepting re-election at Albany he broke faith with Charleston, which made its feelings known in Albany.

Abstract:
The A&R man became a record producer with the development of magnetic tape (a spoil of World War II) and the introduction of the vinyl long-playing record by Columbia Records in 1948. Producers could capture on tape—for reproduction and sale on records—jazz that had routinely happened for many years only on various stages. When recording technology caught up with the actual practice of improvising musicians, jazz discovered an ideal form in the "album." George Avakian's visionary work with Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Erroll Garner, Buck Clayton, and Dave Brubeck realized what could be done with the new format and technology. The productions of Milt Gabler, Bob Weinstock, Esmond Edwards, Don Schlitten Teo Macero, Bob Thiele, Orrin Keepnews, Nesuhi Ertegun, Creed Taylor, Lester Koenig, Nat Hentoff ushered in a golden age for jazz.

Abstract:
Production before the advent of magnetic tape—in the era of 78-RPM records—emphasized "pre-production." A&R men (short for "artists and repertoire") chose artists to record, and they paired songs from the publishing firms of Tin Pan Alley with artists. The A&R work of Milt Gabler (at Commodore and Decca Records) and John Hammond and George Avakian (at Columbia) is exemplary. Gabler organized a series of jam sessions, which he recorded. Avakian produced Chicago Jazz (1940), the first jazz "album" of original material. As part of their popular music divisions the major labels—Columbia, Decca, and RCA Victor—record and market jazz. A number of specialty labels emerge: Commodore, Prestige, Contemporary, Verve, Blue Note, Atlantic, Riverside, and Savoy. Though dependent on pressing plants owned by the majors, they reflect the production philosophies of the connoisseurs who founded and owned them.

Abstract:
1911’de İstanbul’a dönmüş, Mahmut Şevket Paşa’ya yapılan suikast sonrasında Sinop’a sürgün edilmiş, ancak sürgünden kaçarak Mısır’a gitmeyi başarmıştır. Georgios’a sunduğu layiha/mektup çerçevesinde Milli Mücadele’nin sonuna değin Yunanlara nasıl hizmet ettiği ele alınacak ve sürgündeki diğer faaliyetleri üzerinde durulacaktır.
