Abstract:
This article studies, from the perspective of Transatlantic Studies, literary works by Rafael Alberti along with archival documents concerning his travel to the Americas in 1935. In his poetry collection, 13 bandas y 48 estrellas. Poema del Mar Caribe and travel diary, ‘Encuentro en la Nueva España con Bernal Díaz del Castillo’, published in 1936, Alberti challenges the traditional perception of Latin American republics as former colonies. Although Alberti insists on his affiliation with the anti-imperialism of the Comintern, the article reveals an underlying conflict in the dialogue established by the Spanish poet within the American space. His writings rework components of conservative political doctrine such as Hispanoamericanismo and literary exoticism. In addition, Alberti exploits Hermann Keyserling’s conception of tellurism to shape his vision of the Americas. The article shows how the innovative message of solidarity with Latin America emerges in Alberti’s work on the basis of a complex ideological and aesthetic ground.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper discusses the quotation frequency and reference strategies of Leon Battista Alberti, Federico Borromeo, and Gabriele Paleotti. These three Catholic art theoreticians of Early Modern period engaged Classical texts as the point of reference and expertly manipulated the Classical sources to provide contextual arguments in the formation of their own artistic theories. Alberti, Borromeo, and Paleotti directly alluded or referred to Pliny the Elder, Plutarch, Xenophon, Strabo, Aulus Gellius, and other Classical sources rather extensively. This can be noticed from various quotation strategies applied in Alberti, Borromeo, and Paleotti treatises and by statistical data on quotation frequency in Alberti’s De pictura, Paleotti’s Discorso intorno alle immagini sacre e profane, and Borromeo’s De pictura sacra.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article concerns a major work by Alberti in the tradition of treatises on household management. The first three books construct the ideal bourgeois domestic economy around the family; the fourth and last book shows that this ideal is being supplanted by the courtly model, whose centre of gravity is not the family but the court. But Alberti does not idealize the courtly life, as do most of the household treatises of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Abstract:

This article explores certain aspects of the socalled „offer“, which the Faroese selfrule leader and member of the Danish parliament, Jóannes Patursson, introduced to the Faroese Lagting in 1906. The „offer“, which according to Jóannes Patursson was given to him by the Danish government, would have given the Faroese Lagting greater administrative and financial selfrule in internal Faroese matters. The Faroese people rejected the offer in 1906, and the Danish legislative minister, Peter A. Alberti, who had signed the letter with the offer to the Lagting, was in 1908 forced to leave the government and was sentenced eight years imprisonment as a result of his involvement in a financial scandal. It has since been said that, according to the Danish government, the offer given to Jóannes Patursson was a private offer from Peter A. Alberti, of which the Danish government had no knowledge. This article argues, that the offer was given to Jóannes Patursson by the Danish government, and that the Danish government never accused Peter A. Alberti of having given Jóannes Patursson a private offer. This story is a myth, created later, totally without any historical foundation. Peter A. Alberti was a likely candidate to blame for an unsuccessful political offer, but in this case, he is certainly not guilty in any violation of governmental authority.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to analyze a short, little-known—yet notably rich—work of Leon Battista Alberti, in order, first, to grasp its relations to its classical model, the pseudo-Pythagorean Golden Verses, as well as to the rest of Alberti’s writing, and then to determine its nature. The author is thereby led to refute the theory that this is a treatise of esoteric hermeticism or a sort of prayer which might offer information about the religious beliefs of Alberti. An edition of the text and a translation into French are appended.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
One of the most fundamental assumptions of modern architectural practice is that all spatial relationships on a building are mathematically definable and can be systematically described by means of two-dimensional representations generated using procedures based on quantification. It is this assumption that makes three-dimensional computer modeling possible. In Leon Battista Alberti, Mental Rotation, and the Origins of Three-Dimensional Computer Modeling, Branko Mitrović analyzes the historical origins of this approach to visual communication about architectural works and its first explicit articulation in the work of Leon Battista Alberti.

Abstract:
The Alberti-Ulhmann criterion states that any given qubit dichotomy can be transformed into any other given qubit dichotomy by a quantum channel if and only if the testing region of the former dichotomy includes the testing region of the latter dichotomy. Here, we generalize the Alberti-Ulhmann criterion to the case of arbitrary number of qubit or qutrit states. We also derive an analogous result for the case of qubit or qutrit measurements with arbitrary number of elements. We demonstrate the possibility of applying our criterion in a semi-device independent way.
