Abstract:
This chapter proposes that Greek exhibits systematic verbalizing morphology so that the vast majority of Greek verbs contain the morphophonological exponence of v in their stem, either as an overt formative via derivational suffixation (first conjugation) or as an empty vocalic element ̃V (second conjugation). Thus, Greek provides a case for a robust morphophonological manifestation of a verbalizing v head as a simple categorizer, which combines with a category-specific or an a-categorial root to derive a verb and, crucially, is not related to transitivity, agentivity, or to argument/event structure. Finally, the chapter shows that the verbalizing exponent itself does not encode Aktionsart, causativity, transitivity, Voice, or Aspect and that the choice of the allomorph expressing the v head lexically depends on the root.

Abstract:
Greek demonstrates both a change from inner (Aktionsart) into outer (grammatical) aspect as well as a change from demonstratives into definite articles, as does English. Even though aspect and definiteness are connected with Case, we argue that the tendencies in Greek with regard to the Case system differ in several aspects from the development of the Case system in English. We consider changes in the Case system of Greek in relation to syntactic properties of the clause, and in particular the realization of +/-interpretable features in inner and outer aspect. We argue that the change that takes place in the history of Greek involves a transitional stage in Ancient Greek where the relevant features can appear on the Trans[itivity] head (outer aspect) or the (inner) Asp[ect] head. The completion of the change in Post-Koine Greek involves the loss of the interpretable feature on Asp; thus Case remains (uninterpretable) on the higher Trans head.

Abstract:
This volume presents a detailed survey of the systems of verb-verb complexes in Asian languages from both a synchronic and a diachronic perspective. Many Asian languages share, to a greater or lesser extent, a unique class of compound verbs each consisting of a main verb and a quasi-auxiliary verb known as a ‘vector’ or ‘explicator’. These quasi-auxiliary verbs exhibit unique grammatical behavior that suggests that they have an intermediate status between full lexical verbs and wholly reduced auxiliaries. They are also semantically unique, in that when they are combined with main verbs, they can convey a rich variety of functional meanings beyond the traditional notions of tense, aspect, and modality, such as manner and intensity of action, benefaction for speaker or hearer, and polite or derogatory styles in speech. In this book, leading specialists in a range of Asian languages offer an in-depth analysis of the longstanding questions relating to the diachrony and geographical distribution of verb-verb complexes. The findings have implications for the general understanding of the grammaticalization of verb categories, complex predicate formation, aktionsart and event semantics, the morphology-syntax-semantics interface, areal linguistics, and typology.

Abstract:
The structure of the VP, its complexity, its semantics, its function, and the universality of the heads that it contains are a fascinating puzzle. A lot of progress has been made: this volume features cutting-edge research on the verbal domain, while tackling the problem of the nature and structure of the vP-VP domain. It includes some chapters based on papers presented at the “Little v” workshop which was held at Leiden University on October 25–26, 2013. The volume is divided into three main sections, representing the areas in which contemporary debate on the verbal domain is most active. The first part, entitled Root and Verbalizer, includes four chapters discussing the setup of verbal roots, their syntax, and their combination with other functional heads like Voice and v. This part focuses on the V head. The second section, Voice, discusses the content and necessity of a Voice head in the structure of a clause, and whether Voice is different from v. Voice was originally intended as the head hosting the external argument in its specifier, as well as transitivity. This section explores its relationship with “syntactic” voice, intended as the alternation between actives and passives. The third section, Event and Argument Structure, is dedicated to event structure, inner aspect, and Aktionsart. The main issues it tackles are the one-to-one relation between argument structure and event structure, and whether there can be minimal structural units at the basis of the derivation of any sort of XP, including the VP.

Gute Führung führt zu besseren Bildungsergebnissen, die wiederum spürbare Auswirkungen auf das wirtschaftliche Wachstum und den Wohlstand einer Gesellschaft haben. Diese Zusammenhänge sind empirisch nachgewiesen, und dennoch sind Führungskräfte in deutschen Bildungseinrichtungen häufig nicht oder nicht ausreichend für diese wichtige Aufgabe qualifiziert. Zudem sind die Entscheidungsbefugnisse in vielen Bereichen, wie z. B. in der Personalauswahl und -honorierung, noch zu gering, um effektiv führen zu können. Der Aktionsrat Bildung widmet sich der Frage, wie die Führung in deutschen Bildungseinrichtungen verbessert werden kann. Anhand der Wirkungskette – von der Leitung einer Bildungseinrichtung über das Lehrpersonal bis zu den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern der Bildungsangebote – geht er der Frage nach, welche Führungsstile den Zielen und Strukturen der einzelnen Bildungsphasen am besten entsprechen und welche Maßnahmen zu ergreifen sind, um Führung effektiv zu gestalten. Als zentrales Element benennt der Aktionsrat Bildung allgemeine sowie bildungsphasenspezifische Handlungsempfehlungen und richtet diese an die politischen Entscheidungsträger.

Die Fähigkeit, sich angesichts disruptiver oder kontinuierlicher Stressoren nicht nur zu erholen und in den ursprünglichen Zustand zurückzukehren, sondern daran zu wachsen oder sich weiterzuentwickeln, wird als Resilienz bezeichnet. Doch was genau zeichnet resiliente Individuen und ein resilientes Bildungssystem aus? Wie lässt sich die Resilienz des Bildungspersonals steigern und wie kann die Resilienz der Lernenden gestärkt werden? Der Aktionsrat Bildung beantwortet diese und weitere Fragen auf der Grundlage einer empirisch abgesicherten Bestandsaufnahme. Für die einzelnen Bildungsphasen wird aufgezeigt, welche Reformen wirksam dazu beitragen können, auch in Krisenzeiten gute Bildungsergebnisse zu erzielen. Der Aktionsrat Bildung leitet konkrete Handlungsempfehlungen ab und richtet diese an die politischen Entscheidungsträger.

Der sich immer schneller vollziehende Wandel in der globalen Welt bedingt die Bewältigung drängender Herausforderungen, die nur durch gleichzeitiges und gleichberechtigtes Umsetzen von umweltbezogenen, wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Zielen erreicht werden kann. In Deutschland firmiert dieses Denken unter dem Konzept der „Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ (BNE), das frühzeitig an die Debatte um die Kompetenzen und deren Förderung in der Schule angebunden wurde. Vor diesem Hintergrund geht der Aktionsrat Bildung der Frage nach, welche Kompetenzen in den jeweiligen Bildungsphasen zu vermitteln sind und wie die effektive Umsetzung gelingen kann. Für jeden Bildungsbereich beleuchten die Expertinnen und Experten neben der Verankerung von BNE in den Bildungsvorgaben und im Unterricht auch die jeweilige Entwicklung und die Umsetzungsprobleme und machen auf einschlägige Best-Practice-Beispiele aufmerksam. Abschließend werden Empfehlungen an die Politik formuliert, wie der Nachhaltigkeitsgedanke noch stärker als heute im Bildungssystem etabliert und auf allen Ebenen so zu verankert werden kann, dass entsprechende Bildungsprozesse gelingen.
