Abstract:
Air intake system (AIS) plays an important role on affecting the performance of the engine and the vehicle. The design and optimization of the structures and materials of AIS contributes to producing a quality reliable system, reducing noise, cost and weight at the same time, which are significant to improve the performance of engine and vehicle. Fresh air hoses/pipes are intended to transport, in air cleaner purified, air from the air cleaner to the throttle fitted on the inlet manifold or to the compressor fitted to the exhaust manifold. Air cleaner box is responsible for filtering out the dust and impurities in the air. The charge air pipes are intended to transport purified compressed air from the compressor to the charge air cooler and then to the throttle fitted on the inlet pipe. For the air cleaner box optimization, through the benchmarking and the innovation ideas from the daily life, two alternative optimized designs were introduced to reduce the cost and weight. The first is four clips connectors and the other is spring clamps. For the hose clamps, another innovation design was introduced to replace the previous hose clamps, which is called friction connector on the inner side of the bellow hose, the outer side of the air cleaner box lid and the clean side duct. For the material of the charge air ducts, TPEE was selected to replace the previous EACM rubber hoses. Further tests and prototypes should be conducted and produced to verify the effect of the optimization.

Abstract:

Arbetet är en fallstudie om aktiva nautikers inställning till användandet av AIS och radar ur en navigatorisk synpunkt. Syftet var att få en uppfattning om hur ett av de nyaste elektroniska hjälpmedlen står sig mot ett av de mer inarbetade och beprövade instrumenten som finns ombord på dagens kommersiella fartyg.För att kunna få en uppfattning om vad nautikerna ansåg utfördes intervjuer ombord på ett svenskt fartyg. Frågorna som ställdes var samma för både AIS och radar för att datan skulle bli jämförbara. De slutsatser som drogs var att AIS som fristående system inte ännu är något som dagens nautiker litar på. Då radarn togs upp till diskussion var mönstret tydligt att systemet ansågs ha hög tillförlitlighet samt att nautikerna näst efter sina egna ögon litar mest på radarn bland de navigatoriska hjälpmedlen. Då en AIS integreras med en radar ansåg samtliga nautiker att tillförlitligheten på båda systemen ökar.


The essay was based upon the active nautical officer’s attitude towards the use of AIS and radar from a navigational point of view. The aim was to get a view of how one of the newest electronic aids keeps well against one of the most and the well-tried instruments that are found onboard on today's commercial vessels. In order to receive an insight the nautical officer’s opinions interviews were conducted onboard a Swedish merchant vessel. The questions that were asked were the same about both AIS and radar in order to get comparable data. The conclusions that were drawn were that AIS as an independent system is not yet something that today's nautical officers trust. When the radar was taken up to discussion all the interviewees stated that the system had high reliability and that it is the second most reliable after their own eyes among the navigational aids. The reliability of both systems increases when an AIS is integrated with a radar according to the result.

Abstract:

An ethnographic study loosely informed by the theoretical framework of distributed cognition was carried out in order to describe how mariners have adopted the Automatic Identification System (AIS) in their work practice, or"made the technology their own". AIS is a transponder-based identification and communication system that allows ships to automatically identify and track each other. In addition to facilitating the identification and tracking of ships, objectives behind the introduction of AIS are to"simplify informational exchange", and"provide additional information to assist situation awareness". Participant observation and interviews were made at four different ships, as well as at two shore stations. A focus group was also held at a maritime conference. The study gave some interesting results. For example, a Problem of Public Information Loss was identified. It is tentatively suggested that this problem has been overlooked partly because of a widespread but impoverished model of communication which does not account for the role of side-participants in a conversation. It is concluded that more research needs to be done on maritime work and the use of new bridge technology.

Abstract:
This paper's main objective is to consolidate the knowledge on context in the realm of intelligent systems, systems that are aware of their context and can adapt their behavior accordingly. We provide an overview and analysis of 36 context models that are heterogeneous and scattered throughout multiple fields of research. In our analysis, we identify five shared context categories: social context, location, time, physical context, and user context. In addition, we compare the context models with the context elements considered in the discourse on intelligent systems and find that the models do not properly represent the identified set of 3,741 unique context elements. As a result, we propose a consolidation of the findings from the 36 context models and the 3,741 unique context elements. The analysis reveals that there is a long tail of context categories that are considered only sporadically in context models. However, particularly these context elements in the long tail may be necessary for improving intelligent systems' context awareness.

Le système d'identification automatique (ou système AIS pour automatic identification system) est un système qui permet aux navires et aux stations côtières de s'échanger certaines informations par radio VHF. Ces informations comprennent l'identifiant, le statut, la position, la direction et la vitesse de l'émetteur. L'objectif de cette thèse est de permettre la réception des messages AIS par un satellite en orbite basse sans modifier le matériel existant équipant les navires. Par l'intermédiaire du système AIS, il devient possible de connaitre la position de tous les navires à travers le monde. Plusieurs nouveaux services sont possibles, comme le contrôle maritime global ou, pour les armateurs, la connaissance constante de la position de leurs bateaux. La réception par satellite des signaux AIS est sujette à un niveau de bruit bien plus élevé que lors de la réception de ces signaux au niveau du sol. Ce niveau de bruit rend les méthodes classiques de réception de ces signaux difficilement utilisables. Une première contribution de cette thèse est le développement de nouveaux démodulateurs utilisant des méthodes de correction d'erreurs. Ceux-ci tirent parti de la présence d'un bloc de contrôle de redondance cyclique (CRC) dans les messages ainsi que de certaines informations connues sur la structure des messages et des données. Des adaptations du récepteur proposé ont également été étudiées afin d'intégrer la poursuite de la phase des signaux reçus et de prendre en compte les collisions des messages envoyés simultanément par plusieurs navires. La dernière partie de cette thèse est consacrée à l'étude des méthodes de localisation des navires ne diffusant pas leur position dans leurs messages AIS. Cette localisation tire parti des paramètres des messages reçus tels que le délai de propagation et le décalage en fréquence de la porteuse dû à l'effet Doppler, et d'un modèle de déplacement des navires
The automatic identification system (AIS) is a system allowing ships and coast stations to exchange some information by VHF radio. This information includes the identifier, status, location, direction and speed of the emitter. The aim of this thesis is to allow the reception of AIS messages by low Earth orbit satellites without modifying the existing ship equipments. With this system, it becomes possible to know the position of all ships over the Earth. As a consequence, several new services become available, such as global traffic monitoring or determining boat location (for ship-owners). Satellite reception of AIS signals is subjected to a higher noise level when compared to ground level reception. This noise makes classical demodulation and decoding methods unusable. A first contribution of this thesis is to develop new demodulators using error correction methods. These demodulators take advantage of the presence of a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) block in the messages as well as known information about the structure of messages and data. Generalizations of the proposed receiver have also been studied in order to take into account the phase noise of the received signals and the possible collision of messages sent simultaneously by several vessels. The last part of this thesis is devoted to the study of localization methods for ships that do not transmit their location in AIS messages. This localization takes advantage of information contained in the received messages such as the propagation delay and the carrier frequency shift due to the Doppler effect, and a ship movement model

The current centralization process on the health area has ocurred by means of a strong deconcentration mechanism. The analysis of the three pro posais for the reorganization of the health area, within the period 1983-1990, aims at a change of strategy in the deconcentration mechanism. Previously, the central institutions kept deconcentrated structures acting over intermediate and local leveis. As from 1983, the trend is to observe intermediate and local leveis operating as deconcentrated structures. Therefore, deconcentration is in fact ocurring in the health area. Deconcentration may have two different aims, i.e., it can be a strengthening and updating strategy for centralization or it can be a strengthening strategy at intermediate and local leveis, and, therefore, a tool to facilitate and promote decentralization. Taking into consideration the historical development of the health area in Brazil, it would be necessary to investigate the present purpose of deconcentration.
O processo de centralização vigente no setor saúde desenvolveu-se utilizando-se fortemente o mecanismo de desconcentração. A análise das três propostas de reorganização do setor saúde, no período de 1983 a 1990, aponta para uma mudança de estratégia no mecanismo de desconcentração. Anteriormente, os órgãos centrais dispunham de estruturas desconcentradas atuando nos níveis intermediários e locais. A partir de 1983 observa-se a tendência da atuação dos níveis intermediários e locais como instâncias desconcentradas do nível central. Portanto, a desconcentração é um processo em curso no setor. A desconcentração pode assumir sentidos distintos, isto é, pode ser uma estratégia de fortalecimento e atualização da centralização ou pode ser uma estratégia de fortalecimento dos níveis intermediários e locais, e, portanto, facilitadora e promotora da descentralização. Considerando o contexto delineado para o setor saúde no Brasil, caberia investigar qual o atual sentido da desconcentração.

Abstract:

Intervjuer med kunniga på AIS-området har utförts parallellt med en enkät riktad till aktiva befäl ute till sjöss. Detta i syfte att ta reda på dels hur detta hjälpmedel bör användas vad avser antikollision, dels hur det faktiskt används i praktiken.

AIS, Automatic Identification System, är ett informationsdelningssystem som hjälper fartyg att navigera säkert genom att sända ut egen navigationsdata och samtidigt ta emot motsvarande information från andra fartyg. Systemet nyttjas även som informationssystem för landbaserade stationer såsom VTS-centraler och kustbevakning.

Undersökningen har engagerat och visat att expertisen anser att AIS, i många avseenden, är ett bra och användbart hjälpmedel som bör komplettera övrig utrustning vid bedömning om kollisionsrisk. Vidare visar enkäten att ARPA-systemet, trots vissa inneboende brister, tillmäts större förtroende än AIS och AIS-vektorer används därför sparsamt. Enkäten visar även att en stor del av de aktiva inte är främmande för att göra avsteg från sjövägsreglerna emedan expertisen i huvudsak avråder från sådant.


Interviews with experts, in the field of AIS, have been conducted alongside a quantitative survey aimed at certified seagoing officers. The purpose of the survey was to investigate how this navigational aid preferably should be used in collision avoidance, in contrast to how it is used in reality.

AIS, Automatic Identification System, is an information sharing system to assist in safe navigation by transmitting the own vessels navigational data while, at the same time, receiving corresponding information from other ships. The system is also utilized by land based stations such as VTS-centers and coast guards.

The investigation shows that experts conclude AIS to be, in many aspects, a good and useful aid which should be used in collaboration with other equipment when assessing risk of collision. Furthermore, the survey show that the ARPA-system, in spite of some internal shortcomings, is awarded more trust than AIS and AIS vectors are therefore rarely used. The survey also shows that a large number of officers are open to deviating from the COLREGs while the experts, in general, advise against it.

Abstract:
The concept of alignment orfit has been discussed in the literature, both in accounting and information systems (IS). Most of prior studies either focused on the alignment between accounting information systems (AIS) and contingency factors or information technology (IT) and contingency factors. However, none has attempted to investigate the alignment between organisational information requirements and information processing capacity. This study helps to fill this gap by exploring the alignment of AIS requirement and AIS capacity among Malaysian manufacturing SMEs with less than 250 employees, and examining its impact on performance. Using a mail survey, datafrom 310firms was collected on nineteen AIS characteristics so that AIS requirement and AIS capacity could be compared. Data was also collected on firm performance, information systems (IS) success, various contingency factors and standard demographics. Based on the nineteen AIS characteristics, the measurement of AIS alignment was explored visually and using two analytic measurement methods: (1) the 'moderation' approach and (2) the 'matching' approach. Using cluster analysis, three distinct groups of SMEs were identified for both approaches. The results indicated that a significant proportion of Malaysian SMEs had achieved high AIS alignment. The group of SMEs which has a higher degree of AIS alignment was found to achieve greater IS success and better organisational performance than the group of SMEs with a lower degree of AIS alignment. Interestingly, the findings of this study also indicate that AIS alignment is positively related to the level of IT sophistication, CEO commitment to IT, and internal expertise, AIS capacity is positively related to the level of IT sophistication, but there was little evidence of the contingency factors affecting AIS requirement. Further, the findings of this study also provide support for past observation that the 'moderation' approach of measuring fit is more meaningful than the 'matching' approach when performance criterion is included in the research model. In summary, this study has deepened current understanding of AIS alignment, and has provided useful insights for CEOs of SMEs in planning their IS implementation. More importantly, it opens up possibilities for further study of AIS alignment in SMEs, both in Malaysia and on a global basis.

Abstract:
I dagens elektroniska sjökort presenteras utöver navigationsinformation andra fartygs information såsom kurs, fart, destination samt navigationskonditioner, såsom begränsad manöverförmåga. Information om dessa navigationskonditioner sänds idag redan ut via ett system som kallas AIS (Automatic Identification System), men kräver att nautikern aktivt söker efter den. AIS har varit i bruk sedan 2001. AIS möjliggör att relevant information för navigering delas mellan fartyg. Syftet med detta arbete var att undersöka behovet hos svenska nautiker av en kompletterande AIS-målpresentation med inriktning på navigationskonditioner i elektroniska sjökort. Metoden som användes var en kvalitativ enkätstudie med en tematisk analys. Respondenterna utgjordes av svenska nautiker med olika befattningar och ett brett åldersspann. Resultatet visade att en övervägande majoritet av respondenterna upplevde de elektroniska sjökorten som plottriga och med för mycket information presenterad i skärmarna. Därför ansågs en kompletterande AIS-målpresentation utan av någon annan information kompromissas önskvärd. Samt att målen skulle komma att presenteras på samma sätt i samtliga tillverkares elektroniska sjökort.
In the nautical profession, navigation by ECDIS and ENC is a central part. Most vessels are required to share information such as speed, course and destination. This system is called AIS and was implemented by the IMO in 2001. The purpose with AIS is to share relevant information regarding the navigation. This study is about examining the need of, according to nautical officers, if AIS information presented in the electronic charts is needed.  Can this be improved to easier get an overview of vessel with deviating conditions in line with ColRegs Rule 18. This information is already available today. The question at issue is whether this above-mentioned information should be presented in a different way than current ECDIS/ENC present it. A qualitative survey was sent out to Swedish deck officers in all ranks and ages. The result gave different opinions on the subject, but an overwhelming majority think that the charts are way to busy with information hiding other information. However, an AIS presentation in the electronic chart which is not blocking any of the existing information was highly desirable.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to improve our understanding of uncertainty in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), which is a chronic illness involving curvature of the spine and is typically diagnosed in late childhood or early adolescence. The timing of most AIS diagnosis and its subsequent treatment occurs at a critical point developmentally and may place strain on adolescents with AIS and their parents. This dissertation includes two studies. The first study used Cash's (2011) cognitive-behavioral perspective on body image as the framework to assess whether brace treatment had a negative impact on body image appraisals in female adolescents participating in a clinical trial. Contrary to previous studies, this study found that brace treatment did not have a negative impact on female adolescents' body image and that poor body image did not result in brace treatment non-adherence. However, this study found significant correlations in adolescents with AIS between poorer body image and poorer quality-of-life. The second study used Uncertainty Management Theory as the framework for exploring adolescents' and parents' AIS-related uncertainties that were participating in online support groups. Results from this study suggest that adolescents with AIS and parents of a child with AIS are managing their uncertainties regarding the illness and its treatment however, the way they manage the uncertainty is different, in particular regarding appraisals of the uncertainties, whether they are seeking or avoiding information, and the types of social support that is being sought and provided. Parents of a child with AIS tended to seek information regarding the uncertainty surrounding the AIS condition, including information regarding doctors/hospitals and research, while adolescents tended to be participating in the online support groups for the purposes of seeking and providing support to other adolescents that have been or currently are in similar situations, such as wearing a brace. These findings are critical, because differences in uncertainty management behaviors between adolescents and parents, such as the ones that were found in the AIS-related online support group, could result in differences in understandings, concerns, preferences, and expectations regarding the illness and its treatments, which may result in family conflict, poor clinical health outcomes in adolescents and poor psychosocial outcomes in adolescents and in their parents. This study is significant in that it explored AIS-related uncertainty in two entirely different settings where theoretical applications are rare, in a clinical trial and in online support groups. The results from this dissertation suggest that Uncertainty Management Theory and Cash's (2011) cognitive-behavioral perspective on body image may be adapted for these contexts. The synthesis of the findings from across this dissertation suggests that the clinical and psychosocial health outcomes of adolescents with AIS and the psychosocial outcomes of their parents, may be improved through communication tools, such as adolescents, their parents, and providers working together through a treatment decision flow chart to elicit AIS-related current understandings, concerns, preferences, and expectation, which will result in shared decisions. Finally, as new technologies expands and are integrated into decisions regarding illness, findings from this dissertation can be used to improve health communication, support interventions, and policy development.

Dans le domaine de la surveillance maritime, les systèmes coopératifs d’identification et de positionnements tels que l’AIS (Automatic Identification System) sont souvent couplés à des systèmes d’observation de navires non coopératifs comme les Radars à Synthèse d’Ouverture (RSO). Dans ce contexte, la fusion des données AIS et Radar peut améliorer la détection de certains navires et d’identifier éventuels scénarii de surveillance. Le premier chapitre introduit les systèmes et détaille la structure des données AIS et Radar ainsi que le traitement du signal utilisé. Le deuxième chapitre présente l’apport potentiel de l’utilisation conjointe des données brutes Radar et AIS pour la détection de navires à l’aide d’un test basé sur le rapport des vraisemblances maximales (test GLRT). Bien que les performances soient encourageantes, la mise en pratique du détecteur en temps-réel semble compliquée. Le troisième chapitre présente une alternative sous-optimale qui explore les données brutes Radar et une carte des positions de bateaux provenant de l’AIS. In the maritime surveillance domain, cooperative identification and positioning systems such as AIS (Automatic Identification System) are often coupled with non-cooperative systems for ship observation such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). In this context, the fusion of AIS and Radar data can improve the detection of certain vessels and possible identify some maritime surveillance scenarios. The first chapter introduces both AIS and Radar systems, details the data structure as well as the related signal processing. The second chapter presents the potential contribution of the joint use of raw Radar and AIS data for the detection of vessels using a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT). Although the performance is encouraging, in practice the implementation in real-time of the detector seems complicated. As alternative, the third chapter presents a suboptimal detection method that explores Radar raw data and a positioning map of vessels obtained from the AIS system. Differently from chapter two, in addition to the simultaneous detection by both AIS and radar, the cases where only one of the systems detects an object can now be distinguished. The problem is formalized by two successive binary hypotheses test. The results suggests that the proposed detector is less sensitive to the proximity and density of ships than a conventional radar detector. The fourth chapter presents the simulator developed to test the algorithms on different surveillance scenarios, namely a civilian ship piracy scenario, an illegal cargo transhipment and a scenario of navigation in a dense environment

Abstract:

The principle of universal shipborne automatic identification system (AIS) is to allow automatic exchange of shipboard information between one vessel and another. Saab TransponderTech AB has an operating AIS transponder on the market and the purpose of this report is to investigate alternative technologies that could result in a highly integrated replacement for the existing hardware.

Design aspects of a system-on-chip are discussed, such as: available system-on- chip technologies, intellectual property, on-chip bus structures and development tools. This information is applied to the existing hardware and the integration possibilities of the various parts of the AIS transponder is investigated.

The focus will be on two main transponder parts that are possible to replace with highly integrated circuits. The first of these parts is the so-called digital part where system-on-chip platforms for different technologies have been investigated with a special interest in a highly integrated FPGA implementation. The second part is the radio frequency receivers where alternatives to the existing superheterodyne receiver are discussed.

The conclusion drawn is that there exist technologies for developing a highly integrated AIS transponder. An attractive highly integrated transponder could consist of a FPGA system-on-chip platform with subsampling digital receivers and additional components that are unsuitable for integration.

In air traffic, safety is the key word. Safety is kept in numerous ways. One of these ways is with the help of Aeronautical Information (AI). AI is all information regarding air traffic, i.e. aerodrome hours of operation, weather reports and information about unserviceable navigational aids. Sometimes it happens that some of the information does not reach the pilots in the aircraft, which can have a negative impact on safety. This thesis examines the flow of AI all the way from the originator of the information to the end-user, and analyzes it to find where the errors occur. The thesis is based on the rules and regulations set by ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, two field trips to the Swedish AI provider LFV, and interviews with four airlines, Novair, NextJet, Malmö Aviation, and SAS. The results exposes where in the flow the weakness exists, and finally gives advice as to how these weaknesses can be addressed.

The adaptation of these two theories could impact how federal regulations affecting Indian Country are viewed and interpreted. This thesis investigates the feasibility of using AIS technology as a support for determining the risk picture in naval transport. Traffic data is gathered from the AIS interface and compared with accident data from NMD (Norwegian Marine Directorate) to form a statistical foundation for a risk model. A risk model based on conditional probablities is then developed based on both data from the Norwegian waters as a whole, as well as data from the Bergen seaward approach. The model is then tested on the inner Oslo fjord, providing promising, if not exact, results. A number of known accidents are also investigated trying to find either common traffic patterns when accidents occur or common traits that “define” an accident. Traffic patterns will help develop a completely dynamic risk model and traits that define accidents will help reveal unreported accidents. Both of these areas are considered to be major benefits of the AIS system, though unfortunately not much work have been published on these topics. The main outcomes of this project are: An overview over published reports and articles regarding AIS and risk analysis A working, though not exact, risk model with suggestions for improvements An overview over accident traits and suggestions for how to reveal these from larger data sets Suggestions for improvements in the online AIS interface It is concluded that AIS technology greatly improves both the statistical foundation for risk models, as well as the possibility to apply the models to a correct traffic pattern. With some minor improvements in the AIS interface, revealing unreported accidents will also become possible. More work in topics regarding practical use of AIS data is highly recommended.

I Nyköping utövar försvaret telekrigsövning för målflyg vilket Saab i Arboga är en del av. Telekrig är ett “digitalt krig” där syftet är att störa ut elektrisk utrustning, exempelvis störa ut radarfunktionen så att en eventuell fiende inte ska dyka upp på densamma.  Syftet med uppgiften var att tillförse målflygen med ett kommunikationssätt som underlättade kommunikationen vid en övning. Detta kommunikationssätt måste vara hemligt då man aldrig kan veta vem som lyssnar på informationen som skickas. Komradion behövde en ersättare som både var snabb, säker och enkel att använda. Kommunikationen skulle komma att ske via transpondrar som är installerade i samtliga övningsflygplan Nyköping tillhandahåller. Dessa transpondrar skickar och tar emot den vanliga AISinformationen vilket bland annat beskriver riktning och bäring för planet.  Del ett av uppgiften gick ut på att undersöka dessa transpondrar för att se om det fanns möjlighet att skicka egendefinierade meddelanden. Denna uppgift löstes genom att koppla upp två datorer till transpondrarna och pratade med dem via IP.  I del två av uppgiften ingick det att ta fram funktioner, ramverk och stödprogram för meddelandekommunikation. Genom att ta fram en programvara som grundades på lösningen i del ett så kan vi ta emot och sända ut meddelanden på radionätet vilket effektiviserar kommunikationen vid telekrigsövningar där flertalet enheter deltagar. Vi tog fram ett programvara som agerade hjälpprocess till programvaran i del ett. Programvaran genererar hemliga kodord till varje textkommando så att endast ett kodord behöver transmitteras över nätet, där kodordet matchas mot en textstäng på mottagande sida.  I sista delen av uppgiften, som vi skulle göra om tid fanns, skulle vi göra en applikation som gjorde detsamma som programvaran i del två gjorde fast på en surfplatta. Detta löste vi genom att innan vi började på del två använda ett tillägg som tillät oss att köra programvaran på både dator och surfplatta.

Automatic Identification System (AIS) was introduced with the overall aim to promote efficiency and safety of navigation, protection of environment, and safety of life at sea. Consequently, ship-borne AIS was implemented on a mandatory basis by IMO in 2000 and later amendments to chapter V of Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention. Therefore SOLAS Convention vessels were required to carry AIS in a phased approach, from I" July 2002 to end of December 2004. The intention is to provide more precise information and a clear traffic view in navigation operations, particularly in anti-collision operation. This mandatory implementation of AIS has raised a number of issues with respect to its success in fulfilment of the intended role. In order to improve the efficiency of the AIS in navigation operation, this research mainly focused on the accuracy of AIS information, and practical use of the technology on board the ships. The intentions were to assess reliability of data, level of human failure associated with AIS, and the degree of actual use of the technology by navigators. This research firstly provided impressions about AIS technology for anti-collision operation and other marine operation and, about a system's approach to the issue of human failure in marine risk management. Secondly, this research has assessed reliability of AIS data by examination of data collected through three AIS data studies. Thirdly, it has evaluated navigators' attitude and behaviour to AIS usage by analysing the data from navigators' feedback collected through the AIS questionnaire survey focused on their perceptions about different aspects of AIS related to its use. This research revealed that some aspects of the AIS technology and some features of its users need further attention and improvement, so as to achieve its intended objectives in navigation. This study finally contributed in proposing the AIS User Satisfaction Model as a suitable framework for evaluation of navigators' satisfaction and extent of the use of AIS. This model can probably be used as the basis for measuring navigators' attitude and behaviour about other similar maritime technologies.

Prosody, the structures governing the pitch and rhythm of speech, is essential to the correct and authentic use of a language. Unfortunately, many students of a second language find it difficult to learn these patterns, particularly when they differ significantly from their mother tongue. Several pedagogical models are now widely used, but only within the confines of a conventional classroom environment. Dramatisation, the process of preparing a full theatrical performance, has already shown itself to be useful in the acquisition of second language grammar and vocabulary. This thesis demonstrates by means of a qualitative case study that this approach to language teaching also results in a statistically significant improvement in the area of prosody. The results were obtained by analysing the digitised speech of four students who participated in a course employing dramatisation in order to teach French as a second language.

Metodika: Respondentai – asmenys, dalyvaujantys narkotikų vartojimo žalos mažinimo programoje, kurie lankosi Vilniaus, Kauno, Klaipėdos, Alytaus, Druskininkų, Mažeikių ir Visagino žemo slenksčio paslaugų kabinetuose. Apklausai naudota Narkotikų kontrolės departamento specialistų sudaryta anoniminė anketa. Analizuojamos, už 2010 metus iš žemo slenksčio paslaugų kabinetų, surinktos anketos. Tyrimo atranka – netikimybinė tikslinė. Gautos 739 anketos, iš kurių 718 tinkamų. Išanalizuota 97 proc. visų anketų. Statistinių ryšių tarp požymių stiprumas vertintas chi kvadrato kriterijumi: laisvės laipsnių skaičius, statistinis patikimumas (p), koreliacijos koeficientas (r). Išvados laikytos statistiškai reikšmingomis, kai p<0,05. Rezultatai: Dauguma respondentų jauni nuo 25 iki 34 metų, vyrai, miestiečiai, lietuvių tautybės (66,9 proc.), gyvenantys su tėvais (33,4 proc.), buvę laisvės atėmimo įstaigose (70,8 proc.), dauguma niekada nesigydė (47,9 proc.). SUMMARY The purpose: to evaluate the health and risky behaviour‘s peculiarities of injected drugs users. Methodology: the respondents – the persons, who take a part in the programe of danger reduction when using drugs. These persons are attending the low threshold services cabinets in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Alytus, Druskininkai, Mažeikiai and Visaginas. For the interview was used the anonymous questionnaire made by specialists of The Drugs Control Department. There is the analysis of 2010 of the questionnaires from the low threshold services cabinets. The selection of survey – not expected target. There was received 739 questionnaires, and 718 of them were suitable for the survey. We did the analysis of 97 % of all the questionnaires. We used the chi square criteria to evaluate the strength of the statistical relations between symptoms: the number of the degrees of freedom, the statistical reliability (p), the coefficient of correlation (r). We think because the conclusions are statistical significant when p<0,05. Results: the most of the respondents are young 25 – 34 yeras old men, living in cities, Lithuanians (66,9 %), living with the parents (33,4 %), have been in prisons (70,8 %), and most of them have never been treated (47,9 %). The complexity of the Government’s environment provides greater challenges in making the AIS effective. Prior studies have reported many and inconsistent determinants of system effectiveness, as well as its measurement. This study intends to fill the gaps by understanding the phenomenon of the critical factors of AIS effectiveness for an on-going and stable system. This includes exploring the critical factors of AIS effectiveness and examining the factors that significantly influence the phenomenon. In addition, the condition of the identified factors is investigated based on perceived importance versus perceived performance. The effectiveness of AIS in this study is viewed from the perspective of user satisfaction. This study was conducted using multiple methods (qualitative and quantitative). The qualitative method includes group discussions, observation and semi-structured interviews. The qualitative findings were used to develop a survey questionnaire for the quantitative study on a larger scale. This study contributes to the literature by presenting a comprehensive measure of AIS effectiveness using a user satisfaction approach. In addition, the results emphasise the AIS main components that are crucial for the achievement of an effective system, which are user commitment, technology support function and teamwork. Furthermore, this study is different to earlier studies in that its findings uncover additional factors that are antecedents for the critical factors of AIS effectiveness. Moreover, the perceived importance-performance gap shows the benefit of the assessment in providing a strategic direction for management. Overall,this study has shed light on the investigated phenomenon by offering: a comprehensive measure of AIS effectiveness; the factors important in achieving an effective system; and further action to be taken by the management and the system’s users on each of those factors. Thus, in addition to academic literature contributions,practitioners will also derive benefits from the findings of this study.

A size-selected series of water-soluble luminescent Ag–In–S (AIS) and core/shell AIS/ZnS QDs were produced by a precipitation technique. Up to 10–11 fractions of size-selected AIS (AIS/ZnS) QDs emitting in a broad color range from deep-red to bluish-green were isolated with the photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield reaching 47% for intermediate fractions. The size of the isolated AIS (AIS/ZnS) QDs varied from ~2 nm to ~3.5 nm at a roughly constant chemical compo- sition of the particles throughout the fractions as shown by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The decrease of the mean AIS QD size in consecutive fractions was accompanied by an increase of the structural QD imperfection/disorder as deduced from a notable Urbach absorption “tail” below the fundamental absorption edge. The Urbach increased from 90–100 meV for the largest QDs up to 350 meV for the smallest QDs, indicating a broadening of the distribution of sub-bandgap states. Both the Urbach energy and the PL bandwidth of the size-selected AIS QDs increased with QD size reduction from 3–4 nm to ~2 nm and a distinct correlation was observed between these parameters. A study of size-selected AIS and AIS/ZnS QDs by UV photoelectron spectroscopy on Au and FTO substrates revealed their valence band level EVB at ~6.6 eV (on Au) and ~7 eV (on FTO) and pinned to the Fermi level of conductive substrates resulting in a masking of any possible size- dependence of the valence band edge position.

The relevant literature suggests that the role of accounting information (AIS) is critical as it provides information on performance leading to facilitation of management decisions. However, the literature is unclear on the role of AIS in helping organisations to manage their sustainable organisational performance (SOP); this results in incomplete understanding of the relationship between AIS and SOP. The present study focused on addressing this gap in knowledge by investigating whether both the quality of AIS and managers' use of AIS information are associated with SOP. Additionally, this study investigated the role of two other independent variables in the relationship, family control of management and industry dynamism. 18 hypotheses were developed based on an integrative review of theories and studies relating to the variables in the research model.

Esse trabalho dedica-se ao estudo dos enunciadores românticos na canção romântica brasileira, com corpus principal de análise formado por composições musicais adaptadas da língua espanhola à língua portuguesa do Brasil, nas últimas três décadas. A pesquisa principiou-se a partir de um cotejamento entre as produções nacionais e as de língua espanhola, quando apontamos para distintos comportamentos dos seres criados nas letras, no que Maingueneau denomina cenografia enunciativa. No entanto, o olhar inicial estritamente comparativo cedeu lugar ao estudo histórico-cultural da canção romântica brasileira, quando a história do desenvolvimento da canção nos mostrou a ligação das composições musicais românticas do século XIX com os poetas românticos. Tivemos de considerar, assim, as modinhas do período oitocentista e as canções produzidas nos primeiros 60 anos do século XX (sambas-canções, boleros, canções cafonas), nas quais há certa continuidade o tipo de enunciador que fomos caracterizando. Fez-se essencial, dessa forma, entender o mercado fonográfico brasileiro do século XX, quando o desenvolvimento tecnológico fez surgir novos meios de comunicação, afetando sobremaneira a forma de produção e circulação da canção romântica. Com o advento do rádio e da televisão, as fronteiras geográficas e linguísticas se estreitaram significativamente, intensificando-se o processo que Valente caracteriza de nomadismo e de movência, ou seja, a transplantação e adaptação dos gêneros musicais entre fronteiras em especial os gêneros musicais provenientes de países de língua espanhola. Assim, é parte desse trabalho uma reflexão sobre esse constante recurso ao repertório de canções hispânicas, recurso que passou a integrar um sistema de produção e circulação, moldando as canções românticas da primeira metade do século XX. Tais composições traziam personagens cujo caráter sofredor e amargurado dava lugar a traços discursivos que ao longo da dissertação caracterizamos como de excesso. No entanto, esse tipo de representação de ser romântico, para o qual a vida nada valia senão ao lado da pessoa amada, seria anulado pelos agentes da indústria cultural, através de medidas elitistas, pelo fato de que não contribuía para o que Tatit caracteriza como refinamento do gosto. Considerando essas características românticas excessivas e o novo cenário musical a partir da década de 80 (época em que a canção romântica passou a ser representada pela música sertaneja), nosso objetivo nesse trabalho foi tentar encontrar algumas características que apontassem para uma transfiguração do enunciador romântico, principalmente, de sua relação com a pessoa amada caracterizada na canção. As produções escolhidas para nosso corpus principal (de canções adaptadas) compreendem o período de 1979 a 2010. Contudo, fazem parte de um corpus de apoio três modinhas do século XIX; alguns sambas-canções e boleros das décadas de 30 a 60 do século XX, além de duas produções consideradas cafonas da década de 70. Nossas análises estão direcionadas pelos estudos enunciativos e discursivos, porém, dada a interdisciplinaridade dessa pesquisa, também, temos fundamentos sociológicos, bem como de história e crítica culturais.
This work is dedicated to the study of the romantic enunciator presented in the Brazilian romantic love song, with main analysis corpus made up of lyrics of the last three decades, adapted from Spanish to Portuguese language. We began the research through a comparison between national and Spanish musical production, when we spotted some different behavior of the beings created in the song lyrics, within what Maingueneau characterize as cenografia enunciativa. Notwithstanding, our strictly comparative approach became a historical and cultural study of the Brazilian romantic love song, when the history of the Brazilian song showed us a connection between the Brazilian romantic love songs of the XIX century and the romanticist poets. We had, thus, to consider the modinhas of such period and songs produced in the first 60 years of the XX century (sambas-canções, boleros, canções cafonas), in which certain characteristics of the type of enunciator we have been describing are still present. This way, we began a study on the XX century Brazilian phonographic market, period in which the technological development contributed to the new means of communication, affecting extraordinarily the production and circulation of the romantic love song. With the advent of the radio and television, the geographic and linguistic frontiers became significantly narrow and it intensified the process characterized by Valente as nomadismo and movência, id est., the transplantation and adaptation of the musical genres amongst the frontiers especially those from Spanish speaking countries. Therefore, this work is also a thought on the constant source of inspiration on the Spanish speaking countries repertoire, something that became part of the production and circulation system in the phonographic market, molding the romantic love songs of the first half of the XX century. Since then, this type of songs brought characters which suffering and anguished images started to be seen as discursive traces in the lyrics, what we have characterize along this work as excess. However, the representation of a being for which life was worthless without the person he loved would be annulated by the agents of the cultural industry through elitist actions, once this representation was not a contribution to what Tatit called refinamento do gosto. Considering these excessive romantic characteristics and the new musical scenario since the decade of the 80s (when the romantic love songs were revived by the music sertaneja), our goal in this work was to find some characteristics that could point to a transfiguration of the romantic enunciator, mainly, regarding to its relation with its beloved person described in the song lyrics. Our main corpus (of adapted songs) is made up of lyrics that comprehend the period of 1979 to 2010. Thus, there is a secondary corpus where three modinhas of the XIX century can be found; some sambas-canções of the decade of 30s to 60s of the XX century; as well as two lyrics known as cafonas during the 70s. Our analyses are founded by the discourse and the enunciation studies, but, due to the interdisciplinary aspect of the work, we also have contributions of the sociology, as well as of the history and cultural studies.

This research investigates how environmental consultancies frame participation as a tool for project implementation using a cross-border conservation initiative as a case study. The study focuses on the facilitation process led by Eco-Africa Environmental Consultants during the establishment of the /Ai-/Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Conservation Area. This study analyzes the promise of participation as a crucial component for Transfrontier Conservation Areas. Analyzing participation of the Richtersvelders is necessary for understanding the work that was carried out and how it was experienced by the stakeholders. The study refers to participation in conservancies in community-based resource management, where the role of non-government organizations and environmental consultancies is well established. Primary data were collected through qualitative document analysis, semi-structured interviews with members of the four communities and with Eco-Africa Environmental Consultants. The findings of the study are that there was a strong attempt towards an all-inclusive bottom-up approach to participation. However, such the success of such an approach was hampered by local mismanagement, politics of money, and a marketing strategy favoring the South African National Parks and the Transfrontier Conservation project.

Alphitobius diaperinus known as mealworm of poultry litter, is one of the main poultry pests. It uses high protein and carbohydrates substrate of birds as a food source, colonizing all the production area finding a favorable environment for its proliferation. This insect causes sanitary and economic problems, affecting not only healthy and growth of the poultry but also acting as a microorganisms transmitter like bacterias, protozoas and virus. In this work it was identified an ?-amylase activity in crude extracts of A. diaperinus larvae and adults. This enzyme is responsible for starch degradation used as a energy source extremely important for survival of many insects. The ?-amylase was partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation (25-75%) in a chromatographic Sephadex column G (50-80), polyacrylamide gel revealed only one band with molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa, its purity was confirmed by the method of enzyme activity assay dinitrosalicylic 3.5-alkaline (DNS) was increased 7.2 times when compared with the crude extract. The ?-amylase assays presented a maximum activity at a pH 5.0 and pH 5.6 and an optimal activity temperature of 50 ? C. The maximum activity of ?-amylase A. diaperinus was achieved in the presence of 0.02 mM CaCl2, and inhibited by increasing this reaction concentration. The enzymatic activity of A. diaperinus ?-amylase was significantly inhibited by amylase inhibitor ?-AIs (lectin-like inhibitor) of Phaseolus vulgaris, suggesting that this inhibitors can be used as an important tool in biological control and development of these pests by reducing the digestion reducing amylase activity which plays an important role in the starch digestion

This research aims to show the impact that consultants have on the creation of IS knowledge assets as well as the impact that they have on the development of IS competencies in SMEs. Exploratory case studies involving SMEs and consultants are used to investigate the impact consultants have on SMEs. IS knowledge and IS competencies are important themes that emerge from the exploratory stage of the study. This research further investigates the types of IS knowledge assets and IS competencies that consultants impact in SMEs by conducting further case studies with consultants and SMEs. Several propositions about the types of IS knowledge assets and IS competencies impacted by consultants are developed and tested using a longitudinal single-case study. The results are analysed using resource-based theory and knowledge-based theory and reveals that consultants contribute to the development of experiential knowledge assets like know-how and experience, routine knowledge assets and systemic knowledge assets by influencing the knowledge creation processes of implementing SMEs. Consultants enhance and contribute to the development of the Management of IT competence which relates to the SME’s ability utilise IS. However, the results also show that consultants compensate for other IS competencies: strategy and vision; sourcing and alignment; and systems and infrastructure. These competencies relate to the SME’s ability to integrate IT with business processes, to source and alignment IT/IS and to engage in business and IS strategic thinking. It is proposed that in addition to overcoming the knowledge barrier in SMEs, consultants are an essential part of the IS knowledge-creation process. Additionally, consultants compensate for IS competencies which are abilities; however, it is noted that if an on-going relationship develops between the consultants and SMEs then SMEs may, over time, develop IS competencies related to business and IS strategic thinking, management of IT and, sourcing and alignment.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study is titled "Community participation and sustainable development in the establishment of the IAi-IAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Conservation Park". lt encompasses the area and stakeholders on the South African side of the Transfrontier Conservation Park (TFCP), which falls within the Richtersveld municipal area. lt covers the whole process of the development of the IAi-IAis/Richtersveld TFCP, from its Conceptual Phase to the signing of the International Treaty to formally establish the IAi-IAis/Richtersveld TFCP1 . This development is expected to hold numerous benefits for the stakeholders that are involved in its process, especially job creation through increased tourism. lt is an exceptional project, as the main stakeholders are the communities who are the legal landowners of the Richtersveld National Park. The management structure of the IAi-IAis/Richtersveld TFCP allows full participation by the local communities through elected members from the four towns in the surrounding area (Khuboes, Eksteenfontein, Lekkersing and Sanddrift) as well as local pastoralists. The theoretical approach that will be used in this study is that of sustainable development. The key components required for sustainable social, economic, and environmental development will be discussed, and are used as yardsticks against which the actual process of establishment of the TFCP will be 'measured'. Participation is regarded as a main aspect of sustainable development and is highlighted in this study. The methodology that was employed included interviewing and participant observation as well as an in-depth documentary analysis of aspects of the TFCP. The benefits and value of the methods used is discussed, as well as the limitations of the study.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die titel van die studie is "Community participation and sustainable development in the establishment of the IAi-IAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Conservation Park". Dit omvat die area en rolspelers aan die Suid-Afrikaanse kant van die oorgrenspark, wat binne die Richtersveld Munisipale area val. Dit dek die volledige proses van die ontwikkeling van die oorgrenspark, vanaf die Konsepsuele Fase tot en met die ondertekening van die lnternasionale Verdrag om die IAi-IAis/Richtersveld Oorgrenspark formeel tot stand te bring2 . Die verwagting is dat hierdie ontwikkeling veelvoudige voordele sal inhou vir diegene wat in die proses betrokke is, veral deur middel van werkskepping as gevolg van toenemende toerisme. Dit is 'n besondere projek aangesien die hoofrolspelers, die gemeenskappe, die wettige grondeienaars van die Richtersveld Nasionale Park is. Este trabalho teve como propósito, compreender a(s) formação(ões) identitária(s) das mulheres que sobrevivem da prostituição, objetivando verificar se a dicotomia identitária - o anjo bom e o anjo mau - concorreria de que forma para a formação do processo político organizativo dessas mulheres. A efetivação do estudo tomou como parâmetro a definição de identidade social concebida a partir de um processo dinâmico em que o sujeito se conhece e é reconhecido socialmente. BBC Radio 4 comedy is heard by over five million people every week in the UK. Selecting which comedy programmes are to be broadcast on the station is mainly the duty of a single person: Radio 4’s Commissioning Editor for Comedy. She faces a delicate task, since her personal choices will affect the listening experience of millions of people. A poor selection will potentially result in a waste of licence payers’ money, can have an effect on the perception of the station as a whole, and may even enrage the listeners. The BBC currently generates ‘objective’ numerical evaluations of audience responses in order to aid the commissioning decision-making process, but are the resultant figures useful? This thesis attempts to answer that question by investigating the suitability of this data in determining the quality of Radio 4 comedy programmes, using analysis of over 650,000 responses. The key measure of objective audience evaluation of BBC broadcast programmes is the Appreciation Index (AI ), a weighted mean value derived from programme appreciation ratings on a 10-point scale from a panel of respondents. This metric is also published as an aggregate station-level score on a quarterly basis as a station performance indicator, used as a ‘meta score for channel quality’. For BBC radio, there is no other recognised objective measure of programme performance that allows episode-level evaluation; the industry standard, RAJAR, does not allow sufficient granularity for audience size information at this level of detail. Thus BBC radio (in comparison to BBC television) has a particular need for the AI to provide a meaningful figure to facilitate programme evaluation. Strict statistical theory dictates, however, that calculating a mean score using data taken from subjective ratings may not give useful results, particularly if the data spread is not unimodally distributed nor taken from a non-interval level scale. Given evidence that comedy is a divisive genre (and indeed as a constituent genre of Radio 4’s broadcasting there is desirability for it to be so), comedy may be particularly poorly represented by AI scores. Indeed, the analysis of the data shows that that the responses are not distributed in a fashion that allows the mean to be a useful measure of central tendency. Not only are the aggregate responses not spread in a unimodal distribution, individual respondents have been found to adopt patterns (types) of responses that differ from the topline distribution. Academic investigations relating to programme appreciation ratings have been relatively scarce, partly due to the limited number of broadcasters that measure this aspect of audience research, as well as the tendency for those that do to refrain from disseminating the data. Where studies have actually been published, researchers have not addressed the issue of the shape of the data’s distribution nor the nature of its scale. This work’s original contribution to knowledge considers these aspects specifically and does so for radio comedy rather than for the more typically utilised television.

The design and development of a software defined radio (SDR) receiver prototype has been completed. The goal is to replace the existing automatic identification system (AIS) manufactured by Vesper Marine with a software driven system that reduces costs and provides a high degree of reconfigurability. One of the key concepts of the SDR is the consideration of directly digitizing the radio frequency (RF) signal using subsampling. This idea arises from the ambition to implement an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) as close to the antenna interface as practically possible. Thus, majority of the RF processing is encapsulated within in the digital domain. Evaluation of a frequency planning strategy that utilizes a combination of subsampling and oversampling will illustrate how the maritime bandwidth is aliased to a lower frequency. An analog front-end (AFE) board was constructed to implement the frequency planning strategy so that the digitized bandwidth can be streamed into a field programmable gate array (FPGA) for real-time processing. Research is shown on digital front-end (DFE) techniques that condition the digitized maritime signal for baseband processing. The process of a digital down converter (DDC) is conducted by an FPGA, which acquired the in-phase and quadrature signals. By implementing a digital signal processor (DSP) for baseband processing, demodulation on an AIS test signal is evaluated. The SDR prototype achieved a receiver sensitivity of -113dBm, outperforming the required sensitivity of -107dBm specified in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62287-1 standard for AIS applications [1].

Enligt totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut kan sådana system störas med förhållandevis enkla medel. Nu när den svenska marinen alltmer engagerar sig i insatser utomlands mot irreguljära motståndare väcks frågan om hur en irreguljär motståndare kan påverka den svenska marinen och den svenska marinens taktik. I denna uppsats kommer frågor kring en irreguljär motståndares förmåga att påverka GNSS att ställas. Samt frågan om vilken påverkan detta har för såväl den svenska marinens fartyg som handelssjöfarten. Uppsatsen kommer även att behandla möjligheterna till skydd mot störning samt hur den svenska marinens taktik kommer påverkas om en irreguljär motståndare försöker störa ut GNSS-system.


The Swedish Navy as well as the worlds shipping industries use more and more satellite navigation for positioning purposes. According to the Swedish Defence Research Agency, those types of systems can relatively easily and at a low cost be jammed. With the Swedish Navy becoming more and more involved in missions overseas against insurgents, the question is whether an insurgent can affect the Swedish Navy and its tactics. This paper investigates the questions about what opportunities an insurgent have to affect the GNSS-system and how that can affect the Swedish Navyas well as the shipping industries. This paper is also about how the tactics of the Swedish Navy will be affected if an insurgent attempts to jam the GNSS-systems and the possibility of protection against jamming.

In Moatize, extraction of coal is an ancient activity, dating back to the early 19th century. Its development occurred concomitant consolidation of Moatize, primarily focus on coal mining in Mozambique. In fact, the coal basin of Moatize is the subject of research and mineral exploration, since the period of effective occupation. With independence and the process of building the State, mostly from the early 1990, the mining goes on to be one of the key sectors for the development of the country; Hence, all the conditions have been created for its growth. The new phase of coal extraction process that accompanied the changes underway in the world, especially since the 1970, have repercussions on the social structure, since the insertion of the capital involved arrangements of all kinds. In Moatize, the implementation of megaprojects demanded the space refunctionalization to meet the demands of the productive capital, a process that culminated with the compulsory displacement of the population. In this context, the research sought to understand the spatial effects of megaprojects of coal extraction in Moatize, from its contradictions, regarding the forms of spatial organization, in order to meet its needs. The proposition of this thesis is that there is a new geopolitical strategy that seeks to shift production, concentrated in Europe to New Territories, rich in natural resources, with tax incentives, weak labor and environmental legislation on the rights humans. This process strengthens the productive restructuring of capital and is characterized by the performance of large transnational corporations. Internally, this process relies on the actions of the State, creating the (legal, institutional and ideological) conditions to check rationality and visibility to megaprojects. So, considering the space as a system of systems and dialectical and historical materialism, as a method of research and interpretation of the phenomena; the qualitative research, secondary data collection, as well as field research, enabled the understanding of current arrangements in Moatize, as well as its effects on the spatial structure. With the implementation of megaprojects in Moatize, in addition to the pressure on State institutions to organize themselves, on the basis of these, there were also environmental degradation and, especially, the social disorganization – as a result of compulsory displacement and destruction of livelihoods. Thereby, the curtailment of collective goods, the difficulties of regular access to food in the resettlement, particularly, in Mwaladzi, the lack of land for production, lack of work, as well as the increased morbidity and mortality, are aspects that lead to the impoverishment of the resettled and exacerbate socio-environmental conflicts. In the meantime, the integration of megaprojects generated insignificant advantages for the local communities; However, this integration created and/or strengthened a small bourgeoisie connected to national political power – the capital partners.
Em Moatize, a extração do carvão mineral é uma atividade antiga, que remonta ao início do século XIX. Seu desenvolvimento ocorreu concomitante à consolidação de Moatize, como principal foco da mineração do carvão em Moçambique. De fato, a bacia carbonífera de Moatize é objeto de pesquisa e exploração mineral, desde o período da ocupação efetiva colonial. Com a independência e o processo de edificação do Estado, principalmente, a partir da década de 1990, a mineração passa a constituir um dos setores chave para o desenvolvimento do país; daí que foram criadas todas as condições para o seu crescimento. A nova fase da extração do carvão mineral, processo que acompanhou as mudanças em curso em nível mundial, sobretudo, desde a década de 1970, tem repercussão sobre a estrutura espacial (social), visto que a inserção do capital implicou arranjos de toda a ordem. Em Moatize, a implantação dos megaprojetos demandou a refuncionalização do espaço para atender as demandas produtivas do capital, processo que culminou com o deslocamento compulsório da população. Nesse contexto, a pesquisa buscou compreender os efeitos espaciais dos megaprojetos de extração do carvão mineral em Moatize, a partir de suas contradições, no que tange às formas de organização espacial, com vista a atender suas necessidades produtivas. A tese defendida é de que há uma nova estratégia geopolítica que busca deslocar a produção, até então, concentrada na Europa para novos territórios, ricos em recursos naturais, com incentivos fiscais, com fraca legislação ambiental, trabalhista e sobre os direitos humanos. Tal processo se fortalece com a reestruturação produtiva do capital e é caracterizado pela atuação das grandes corporações transnacionais. Internamente, esse processo conta com a atuação do Estado, criando as condições (legais, institucionais e ideológicas) para conferir racionalidade e visibilidade aos megaprojetos. Assim, considerando o espaço como um sistema de sistemas e o materialismo histórico e dialético, como método de pesquisa e de interpretação dos fenômenos; a pesquisa qualitativa, o levantamento de dados secundários, bem como a pesquisa de campo, possibilitou a compreensão dos arranjos em curso em Moatize, assim como dos seus efeitos sobre a estrutura espacial. Com a implantação dos megaprojetos em Moatize, além da pressão sobre as instituições do Estado que passaram a organizar-se, em função desses, houve, também, a degradação ambiental e, sobretudo, a desestruturação social - fruto do deslocamento compulsório e da destruição dos meios de subsistência. Desse modo, o cerceamento de bens coletivos, as dificuldades de acesso regular aos alimentos nos reassentamentos, principalmente, em Mwaladzi, a falta de terra propícia para a produção, a falta de trabalho, bem como o aumento morbidade e da mortalidade, são aspectos que conduzem ao empobrecimento dos reassentados e exacerbam os conflitos socioambientais. Paralelamente, a inserção dos megaprojetos gerou insignificantes vantagens para as comunidades locais; porém, criou e/ou fortaleceu uma pequena burguesia ligada ao poder político nacional - os parceiros do capital.
