Abstract:
The concept of attention held a special place during the historical development of psychology (Cohen, Sparkling –Cohen & O' Donell, 1993). Although hundreds of articles dealing with the concept of attention are published each year (Whyte, 1992a), due to the lack of coherence at a conceptual, methodological and theoretical level, there continues to be disagreement among scientists (Anderson, Craik & Naveh-Benjamin, 1998. Van Zomeran & Brower, 1994) on the nature of attention. Aim: The main purpose of the article is the definition of attention. Method: a review of the literature was made and the most representative articles on the concept of attention were selected. Conclusions: Attention is a multifaceted concept. Its special nature leads to the non-existence of a unified psychological theory that will explain and include all its dimensions.

Abstract:
Background: Comb homolog enhancer 1 (EPC1) gene is one of the important members of epigenetic inhibitor PCG family. It shows carcinogenic potential in a variety of malignant tumors, but the expression and role of EPC1 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma are unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the expression and function of enhancer of polycomb homolog 1 (EPC1) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: The differential expression of EPC1 in the cancer tissues and cell lines of NPC was examined by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). EPC1 expression, cell proliferation, and apoptosis were detected in NPC cell lines after EPC1 silencing, and the levels of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related proteins E-cadherin and vimentin were detected in NPC cells after EPC1 silencing. The study was performed at Fujian Provincial Hospital, Fujian, China, from 2018 to 2019. Results: We found that EPC1 was significantly upregulated in the cancer tissues and cell lines of NPC (P<0.001). Furthermore, knockdown of EPC1 inhibited the growth and metastasis of NPC cells. E-cadherin and vimentin were detected in NPC cells after EPC1 was knocked out. It was confirmed that inhibition of EPC1 resulted in increased E-cadherin expression (P<0.001) and decreased vimentin expression (P<0.001), suggesting that inhibition of EPC1 could inhibit the EMT in NPC cells. Conclusion: EPC1 expression was upregulated in NPC tissues and cell lines. Knockout of EPC1 effectively inhibited the growth of NPC cells, induced apoptosis, and inhibited invasion and metastasis. Inhibition of EPC1 could inhibit the EMT in NPC cells. All of the above findings support the viewpoint that EPC1 plays a pro-cancer role in NPC.

Abstract:
The aim of our research is to show psychological functions of socio-cultural competence; to present cultural context, which influences the development of socio-cultural competence of students. Methods of the research. The following theoretical methods of the research were used to solve the tasks formulated in the article: a categorical method, structural and functional methods, the methods of the analysis, systematization, modeling, generalization. The experimental method was the method of organizing empirical research. The results of the research. We proposed socio-cultural approach in the process of education at high school at the English lessons. We proved that the main function of socio-cultural competence is a cultural function, which has the aim to create cross-cultural competence of the student almost at the same level as a native speaker. The main cultural function is a mean of building up a cultural-historical theme, and the native culture is not ignored. So, there is a parallel study of the cultural manifestations of native people and the people whose language is being studied. It was proved that the ways of developing of sociocultural competence to learning a foreign language has the aim to integrate language education interdisciplinary with the purpose to enrich bilingual competence of the student in order to fulfill the role of a subject of multi-cultural dialogues and to gain a role of a cultural mediator in the process of intercultural communication. Conclusions. We’ve shown, that from the standpoint of Sociocultural Approach, socio-cultural competence is understood by us as the functionally determined communicative interaction of people who are the representatives of different cultural communities and belong to different geopolitical, continental, religious, regional, national, ethnic groups, as well as social subcultures. It was shown, that partners of communication, of course, can differ from each other in value-oriented worldview, lifestyle, models of speech and non-verbal process of communication. For productive multi-cultural communication, a personality with a high level of socio-cultural competence must be a mediator of cultures, by which we understand a student who has knowledge about the peculiarities of different cultures and the peculiarities of their interaction. Socio-cultural competence allows a person to go beyond the background of his/her native culture and acquire the qualities of a mediator of cultures, without losing his/her personal cultural identity.

Abstract Despite the initial function of hashtags as tools for sorting and aggregating information according to topics, the social media currently witness a diversity of uses diverging from the initial purpose. The aim of this article is to investigate the communicative functions of hashtags through a combined approach of literature review, field study and case study. Different uses of hashtags were subjected to semantic analysis in order to disclose generalizable trends. As a result, ten communicative functions were identified: topic-marking, aggregation, socializing, excuse, irony, providing metadata, expressing attitudes, initiating movements, propaganda and brand marketing. These findings would help to better understand modern online discourse and to prove that hashtags are to be considered as a meaningful part of the message. Learning temporal abstractions which are partial solutions to a task and could be reused for solving other tasks is an ingredient that can help agents to plan and learn efficiently. In this work, we tackle this problem in the options framework. We aim to autonomously learn options which are specialized in different state space regions by proposing a notion of interest functions, which generalizes initiation sets from the options framework for function approximation. We build on the option-critic framework to derive policy gradient theorems for interest functions, leading to a new interest-option-critic architecture.

Abstract:
By using a general result on the monotonicity of quotients of power series, our aim is to prove some monotonicity and convexity results for the modified Struve functions. Moreover, as consequences of the above-mentioned results, we present some functional inequalities as well as lower and upper bounds for modified Struve functions. Our main results complement and improve the 1998 results of Joshi and Nalwaya.

Abstract: The crisis in education has been the problem for many decades and entropy in education does exist. The aim is to present a situation in Serbia concerning education and reforms as well as to highlight a new strategy in the process of education. The hypothesis is that entropy could be replaced by synergy and academic honesty could be integrated in the legal system in the domain of education in Serbia. The focus is on several topics: Good practices of scholars from the USA in the field of shared responsibility for student learning as a creative approach to reforms in education are presented. A few examples of negative appearances in the structure and organization in educational institutions in Serbia are analysed too. Some perspectives are described. The first one is related to unity, responsibility, and trust between all parties responsible for the successful education: teachers, students, and parents, local and state representatives. The second one is that without democratic media and objective and true information about the real situation in the domain of education, all efforts toward achieving progress will remain locked in the paper work and empty promises of a bureaucratic way of thinking in the field of education. Кеywords: education, entropy, synergy, academic honesty, knowledge society, media.

Abstract:
Soil hydrologic coefficients, also called hydrolimits, are soil water contents defined for certain values of water potentials. Closer attention is paid to three hydrolimits: field capacity, point of decreased availability, and wilting point. The hydrolimits can be found by various ways. Their assessment under natural conditions should be seen as laboratory assessment of hydrolimit values or use of soil water retention curves for reading of hydrolimits. Therefore, some methods for indirect assessment of the water retention curve from actually mapped soil characteristics such as soil texture, bulk density and calcium content were devised. They are generally called pedotransfer functions (PTFs). Aim of the study is to calculate values of some important hydrolimits using PTFs. The hydrolimits calculated by this way are compared to hydrolimits determined from another measured water retention curves. The presented study documents an efficiency and promptness of PTFs use for a region of interest for dynamics evaluation of water storage in the soil aeration zone considering the water supply of plants.

Abstract:
Hashing is a fundamental operation in database management, playing a key role in the implementation of numerous core database data structures and algorithms. Traditional hash functions aim to mimic a function that maps a key to a random value, which can result in collisions, where multiple keys are mapped to the same value. There are many well-known schemes like chaining, probing, and cuckoo hashing to handle collisions. In this work, we aim to study if using learned models instead of traditional hash functions can reduce collisions and whether such a reduction translates to improved performance, particularly for indexing and joins. We show that learned models reduce collisions in some cases, which depend on how the data is distributed. To evaluate the effectiveness of learned models as hash function, we test them with bucket chaining, linear probing, and cuckoo hash tables. We find that learned models can (1) yield a 1.4x lower probe latency, and (2) reduce the non-partitioned hash join runtime with 28% over the next best baseline for certain datasets. On the other hand, if the data distribution is not suitable, we either do not see gains or see worse performance. In summary, we find that learned models can indeed outperform hash functions, but only for certain data distributions.
