Abstract:
This study explores the character of Takezo the ronin in Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa through the psychological perspective of aggression. This research specifically aims to (a) explore Takezo's psychology of aggression as a ronin and (b) the impact of Takezo's aggression on others. The approaches used in this research are the psychology of literacy and the psychology of aggression. The method used is qualitative; it uses data exposure and interpretation. The data source is the novel Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa (translated version in Indonesian). The data used is in the form of text that is relevant to Takezo's psychology of aggression. The data analysis techniques are carried out in five stages, (1) identifying data related to Takezo's psychology of aggression, (2) data classification related to Takezo's psychology of aggression, (3) data presentation related to Takezo's psychology of aggression, and (4) summarizing data related to Takezo's psychology of aggression. The results showed that Takezo's aggressions are represented in the form of thoughts and behaviour. Takezo's aggressive thoughts are wanting to defeat and kill his enemies. Takezo's aggressive behaviour is killing his enemies, who are samurai. Takezo's aggressions cause the impact of physical category, and they are death and disability on the defeated samurai. Besides, in the psychological category, Takezo's aggressions cause fear and hatred in society. It is concluded that Takezo represents ronin, which desires destructive aggression that has a physical and psychological impact on others.

Abstract:
Research finds gender differences in aggression and suggests that female violence is viewed differently from male violence. Participants were 94 female and 38 male students from a mid-size public university in the Southeast. Participants read a mock trial and answered questions about their attitudes concerning an aggressor in the scenario. The study was a 2 (male or female) by 2 (high socioeconomic status or low socioeconomic status) by 2 (verbal aggression or physical aggression) between-subjects factorial design. The participants responded to a revised version of the Attitudes Toward Women Scale (Nelson, 1988). As hypothesized aggressive women were evaluated more negatively than aggressive men and participants evaluated the female aggressor who used physical aggression more negatively than the female who used verbal aggression. The hypothesis that the female aggressor would be perceived as more in need of counseling than the male aggressor was not supported. Contrary to another hypothesis, respondents did not evaluate higher socioeconomic status aggressors more negatively than those of lower status. As hypothesized people with traditional views of women evaluated the female aggressor more negatively than people with more liberal views of women, and liberal participants evaluated the male and female aggressors similarly. The more negative evaluation of female aggressors and, in particular, females who use physical aggression, may result in unfair treatment of such females. These social biases may cloud perceptions of aggressive females, suggesting that their actions are more inappropriate than those of a male who committed the same act.

Abstract:
Aggression is a behavior that intent to hurt others. Despite collective researches about aggression, there is a dearth in fully established psychosocial programs for the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and evaluating program directed to aggressive behavior in the Philippines. Eight CICL housed in an institution under the supervision of the DSWD-Dasmariñas were the primary source of data. The study seeks to describe the pre-and-post mean scores of aggressions and determine the significant difference in aggression reduction before and after exposure to AMP. Employing the quasi-experimental design, the researchers administered the intervention and conducted repeated-measures to measure the effectiveness of AMP thru combined approaches of CBT-EFT in reducing their aggression level. Findings revealed that their aggression in the areas of physically aggressive responses, and verbally aggressive reactions were diminished after participating in the AMP, with the inclusion of counseling sessions in addressing problematic concerns related to aggressive behavior.

Abstract:
The entire history of human race is full of worst record of violence and aggression. Aggression precisely is just violent physical or verbal behaviour intended to hurt someone physically, mentally or both. Freud (1930) and Konard Lorenz (1966) thought it to be innate and instinctive tendency forcing one to resort to violence and aggressions. Baron, 1977; Berkowitz, 1969; Buss, 1961; Zillman, 1979 conceived aggression as acquired behaviour. The entire history of human race is full of worst record of violence and aggression. Aggression precisely is just violent physical or verbal behaviour intended to hurt someone physically, mentally or both. Baron, 1977; Berkowitz, 1969; Buss, 1961; Zillman, 1979 conceived aggression as acquired behaviour. Yet another view held that frustration is the sole cause of aggression (Neal Miller, 1941). To conclude the discussion, It is felt that frustration may be responsible for aggression yet it is not the sole determiner of verbal and physical aggression. It appears that aggression is the byproduct of social learning along with several other instigator such as group mind or deindividuation and a host of social, cognitive and environmental factors that predisposed and precipitate aggression. Further society and culture may also contribute as facilitator or inhibitors of aggressive behaviour.

Abstract:
Introduction: Aim of the research presented in this article is investigation of indirect aggression among inmates. Indirect aggression covers aggressive behaviors toward social position and reputation of the victim, such as ridiculing, disseminating of fake information and social exclusion. Relationship between use of indirect aggression and being victim of indirect aggression in penitentiary context was examined. Sex differences in indirect aggression also was considered. Moreover, direct aggression, anger and hostility were tested as predictors of indirect aggression.Method: Two versions of Indirect aggression scale (IAS-Aggressor, IAS-Target) as well as Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire to examined selected psychological variables were used. Cumulatively 78 penitentiary recidivists and first time sentenced were examined (40 males, 38 females). Results: Relationship between inmate’s indirect aggression use and its experience was revealed. The research show also that male offenders more often use indirect aggression than sentenced woman. Physical aggression and hostility predicted indirect aggression in investigated penitentiary sample.Key practitioner massages: Presented research suggest that indirect aggression among inmates can be a serious threat during incarceration. From that reason early diagnosis and prevention of covert aggressive behaviors among inmates is needed.

Abstract:
Abstract. We investigated the pleasurability of aggressive behavioral decisions. Four questionnaires (on hedonicity, decision making, justification of aggression, and impulsiveness) were given to 50 participants of both sexes, ranging from 16 to 80 years old. Most participants avoided unpleasant behaviors as part of a trend to maximize pleasure and to minimize displeasure. Mean hedonicity ratings followed a bell curve with increasing levels of aggressiveness (p < .0001). Thus, the participants chose neither passive nor highly aggressive responses to social conflicts, with both extremes receiving the most unpleasant ratings. The results offer empirical support for an interesting point: People may derive pleasure from aggression as long as it is exhibited on a low to medium level. More precisely, people associate pleasure with aggression up to a certain point: Aggressive responses of medium intensity were rated significantly less unpleasant than the most passive and most aggressive ones, which were associated with less pleasure. Conclusion: In social conflicts, behavior tends to maximize experienced pleasure; and aggression produces pleasure in the aggressor, except at extreme intensities. The point that mild to moderate aggression brings pleasure, whereas extreme or severe aggression does not, provides a perspective that may reconcile conflicting observations in the literature.

Abstract:
Aggressive behaviors negatively impact peer relations starting from an early age. However, not all aggressive acts have the same underlying motivations. Reactive aggression arises as a response to an antecedent behavior of someone else, whereas proactive aggression is initiated by the aggressor and is instrumental. In this study, we aim to understand the relation between reactive and proactive aggression and peer acceptance in preschoolers. Parents of 110 children aged between 3 and 6 years old rated their children’s manifestation of reactive and proactive aggressive behaviors. To assess the children’s peer acceptance score within their class, they completed a paired comparisons task. The outcomes confirmed that reactive aggression in particular is negatively related to peer acceptance at the preschool age. Our results provide insights for the needs and directions of future research and interventions.

Abstract:
Aggressive behavior hurts us all and is studied across psychology’s subdisciplines. Classical theories discuss the causes of aggression in the context of negative affect (e.g., frustration, pain). However, more recent research implicates positive affect as an important correlate and cause of aggression. Such aggressive pleasure likely evolved from ancient predatory tendencies that later yielded reproductive benefits, holds across reactive and proactive forms of aggression, and is used strategically as an item in many people’s emotion-regulation toolkit. Findings from psychological and neural sciences have converged to detail aggression’s hedonically pleasant qualities and the motivational and biological mechanisms through which they occur. This new approach generates novel hypotheses and might lead to effective interventions that mollify mankind’s aggressive tendencies.

Abstract:
The goal of this research was to determine whether relational aggression in girls was similar to overt aggression in boys in terms of social-psychological adjustment. A total of 199 fifth through ninth grade children (86 boys, 113 girls) participated in this study. Relational and overt aggression scores were used to form groups of children who varied on the two types of aggression. Results indicated that overtly aggressive boys did not differ from relationally aggressive girls in terms of depression, anxiety, psychopathy, sensation seeking, ADHD, delinquency, and drug use. Further, boys in the aggressive groups scored consistently higher than boys in the nonaggressive groups on all indices of maladjustment. The results of the current study provide support for the hypothesis that relational aggression in girls is not different from overt aggression in boys in terms of social-psychological adjustment problems.

Full text
Abstract:
My thesis explored the relation between cannabis use (CU) and two distinct subtypes of aggression. Substantial prior research has examined the association between CU and aggression; however, empirical evidence has not yet provided a clear or complete picture of this relationship. This may be due to the fact that to date no studies have considered the important distinction between instrumental aggression (IA) and reactive aggression (RA). The aim of this study was to differentiate these subtypes of aggression while controlling for covariates such as psychopathy and trait aggression which has the potential to reconcile the apparently contradictory findings in the literature. Also of interest was the role that gender plays in the relationship between cannabis and IA/RA. Samples from three different populations, who all completed a series of self-report questionnaires, were examined for this study. The sample from the university population consisted of 427 participants, the sample from the online population consisted of 434 participants, and the sample from the treatment population consisted of 68 participants. The data were analysed using independent samples t tests, hierarchical multiple regressions, and two-way ANOVAs. The results from all three samples indicated that there is little to no relation between CU and IA/RA. In cases where a relation was found, it disappeared when accounting for psychopathy and trait aggression. These findings were consistent across all frequencies of CU. Furthermore, the results showed that there was no interaction between gender and any frequency of CU when looking at the relation with IA/RA. Collectively, these findings indicate that CU is not associated with aggressive behaviour and propose answers to the question of why there is such differing findings in the existing literature. The public health impact of CU remains controversial and these findings have important theoretical, methodological, and clinical implications.

Abstract:
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2000.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study investigated aggression types and beliefs about aggression among male psychiatric in-patients, using the Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) and the Expagg Questionnaire (Expagg). Two groups were compared: an aggressive group (.0= 40) and a non-aggressive group (n = 44). As expected, the aggressive group displayed significantly higher levels of self-reported aggression, as reflected by their total scores on the AQ and its four subscales (anger, hostility, physical and verbal aggression). The non-aggressive group scored significantly higher on the Expagg than the aggressive group. This indicates a tendency towards expressive beliefs about aggression where aggression is being viewed as an expression of negative feelings and thus as a temporarily loss of control. The relatively lower Expagg scores for the aggressive group shows a tendency towards instrumental beliefs about aggression where aggression is seen as a means to reach a desired goal and thus as an effort to temporarily gain control over the situation. The total scores on the Expagg correlated negatively with self-reported aggression. The implications for prevention and intervention programs are discussed.

Dickens, Tracy. "The Effect of Aggressive Interpersonal Relationship Dynamics on Women's Perpetration of Aggression." Digital Archive @ GSU, 2006. http://digitalarchive.gsu.edu/psych_diss/16.

Abstract:
Women’s use of aggression in intimate partner relationships is consistently debated by researchers of intimate partner aggression. One tenet suggests women use aggression within intimate relationships at similar rates as men. Conversely, a second tenet acknowledges women’s use of aggression but suggests that the meaning and consequences associated with women’s aggression is not coercive or severely injurious, which are typical characteristics of men’s use of aggression. The current study evaluated incarcerated women in order to build upon an integrative approach that suggests that women’s use of aggression is related to the relationship dynamics generated from variations in coercive and conflictual behaviors. Further, the current study evaluated the moderating relation of childhood abuse history and posttraumatic stress symptoms between relationship dynamics and women’s use of aggression. Ninety-six women, who participated in a larger research project that investigated incarcerated women’s life experience, reported on the dynamics of their most recent abusive heterosexual relationship, their own use of aggression (minor and severe) and childhood abuse history and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Findings suggest that incarcerated women involved in intimate relationships characterized as highly conflictual use significantly more minor and severe aggression toward their partners than women involved in relationships with low levels of conflicts. The finding is significant regardless of the level of coercion present in the relationship. Lastly, neither childhood abuse history nor posttraumatic symptoms moderated the relation between intimate partner relationship dynamics and women’s use of aggression. Various reasons for the lack of support for the moderating effect of history on women’s use of aggression are discussed.

Due to the fact that aggression is a critical social behavior, it is studied in terms of linguistics, pragmatics, and even critical pragmatics however it is not tackled from a critical stylistic perspective. Thus, the study under scrutiny deals with aggression as a domestic and social behavior from a CS perspective aspiring to answer the questions of: 1. how aggressive language is displayed in parents-children communication through a critical stylistic standpoint? 2. What are the stylistic tools used in the novel to express the ideological effects? The study aims to investigate the linguistic markers of aggressiveness, contextual significance, and their influence on character development and interactions. It is hypothesized that: 1. Aggressive language has a major role in shaping character dynamics and the narrative. 2. Aggressive language is realized via two levels: ideational level and textual level to reveal the ideological effects. The study contributes to a nuanced understanding of language's portrayal of aggression and its implications in the context of the novel. It also reveals that aggression can be seen as a critical social behavior practiced by the aggressor for a particular reason such as want, desire, need or because of the psychological state of the aggressor

Abstract:
Social innovation is very important for rural development. It is a lack of researchers about an individual level of social innovations in Lithuania. Adolescents’ aggression is an important social problem that can affect society and social innovations. It needs to find the differences in aggression between rural and urban adolescents because it could help to plan effective interventions for reducing aggressive behavior. The present study aimed to assess the aggression among rural and urban adolescents. It was hypothesized that rural and urban adolescents differ significantly on aggression. In order to verify the above hypothesis a sample of 479 (207 boys; 272 girls) students were selected from Lithuanian schools. The sample includes the similar size of rural (N=242) and urban (N=237) students. The age of participants was from 12 to 17. It was used Aggression Questionnaire developed by Buss and Perry (1992) in this research. The questionnaire involves four subscales: physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, and hostility. The results showed that urban girls had more physical aggression than rural girls. However, it was not found statistically significant differences in physical aggression among urban and rural boys. Also, it was not found any statistically significant differences in verbal aggression, anger, hostility among urban and rural adolescents.

Abstract:
The study is to study the phenomenon of aggression. The problem of the development of the phenomenon of aggression is considered in the context of socio-philosophical approaches to the definition of the concept of «aggression». Attention is drawn to some examples of manifestations of aggression in the modern world. An analysis of the phenomenon of aggression made it possible to single out two main approaches to its understanding: 1) aggression as a property of living matter (physiological instinct); 2) aggression as an individual property (reaction of the individual).

Abstract:
The phenomenon of aggressive behavior of people in society is one of the popular areas of research activity of sociologists and, of course, psychologists. Unfortunately, in the modern world, the number of cases of aggression among young people is growing. The world today has become very dangerous in many ways. In the first place among the destabilizing factors of peace stability is aggression in all possible forms. Aggression is a motivational behavior that can often cause physical or mental harm to the targets of attack. The study of human aggression allows not only a better understanding of human nature, but also contributes to the development of new ways to control it, the future of modern society depends on it.

Abstract:
The article contains empirical findings regarding the correlation between aggressiveness and social-psychological adaptation in adolescents. In today’s world, the issue of aggression and violence remains relevant. To date, the world has faced a complex situation due to economic, ecological, and social problems, which preconditions a rapid rise in human aggressive behaviour. The issue of aggressive behaviour is of particular urgency among adolescents. Many of the factors underlying aggression in adolescence have not yet been sufficiently substantiated in the scientific community. Such insufficiently studied phenomena include the correlation between aggressiveness and social-psychological adaptation. Social-psychological adaptation means a personal state allowing to attain mutual contentment of a person and social environment. Empirical findings have revealed a correlation between aggressiveness and social-psychological adaptation. It was found that the more aggression and its various forms are expressed, the more maladaptivity is manifested in young adolescents. However, positive associations were found between forms of aggression and components of adolescent socio- psychological adjustment. In this case, aggression can act as a compensating factor for maladaptation. Further studies of the correlation between aggressiveness and social-psychological adaptation comprises, firstly, research into gender differences in the correlation between aggressiveness and social-psychological adaptation, and secondly, studies in other ages and social groups of respondents.

Abstract:
«Aggression» – absorbing all the most destructive things in human activity – is the most important problem of the philosophy and theory of technogenic civilization generated by intensive scientific and technological development. The perspective of the theory of technogenic civilization requires the broadest definition of «aggression». There are three areas of technogenic actualization of the problems of aggression: universal, social, individual. In social terms, special attention is drawn to the transition from a unipolar to a multipolar world, which increases the risks of various disasters and reduces the chances of democracy. On an individual plan, the problems of virtual aggression are becoming more acute and the position of eugenics is becoming stronger. The actualization of the topic of aggression in the theory of technogenic civilization once again emphasizes the need to develop the practice of post-technogenic civilization.

Review question / Objective: By systematically reviewing articles investigating male mouse aggression we wanted to map how the literature in the field support, or not, the available recommendations on how to prevent aggression in group housed male mice, and to detect knowledge gaps that ought to be filled. We also wanted to address and describe how aggression have been measured in the literature, since this may influence the possibility to translate outcomes to normal husbandry conditions and contribute to useful recommendations. Condition being studied: Aggression between male cage mates is one of the main problems in laboratory mouse husbandry, affecting both animal welfare and scientific quality.
