Abstract:
A comprehensive survey examined three age-role self-concepts: cognitive, ideal, and social ages. Participants were forty to sixty-nine years old and viewed themselves as middle-aged. The investigation reviewed inner-age research and evaluated inner-age infra-structure (with t-tests and correlations), as well as connections between inner-age and participants' characteristics (with covariates, partial correlations, and regressions) in the context of eight psychographic trait-sets (sex-identity, quality-of-life, health, self-consciousness, societal traits, venturesomeness, supermarket shopping involvement, and exercise activities). The three inner ages, while closely interrelated, diverged in their distribution patterns, in mean ages, as well as (after removal of birth age's linear effects) in their covariates and correlates.

Abstract:
Abstract Two groups of upland hard-wood trees from the same general area were studied by 44 volunteer observers to determine the ability of the observers to visually estimate tree ages. The error of estimate for tree ages varied by the professional category of the observer, and all categoriesof observer improved with training. The error of age estimate over all categories of observer was 40.2% on the age estimation for the first group of trees. On the second group of trees, after being supplied with the correct ages for trees in the first group, the volunteer observers reducedthe overall error to 22.1%. The best individual effort was achieved by a forester whose error on the first attempt was 16.5% with a 10.7% error on his second attempt. However, for most workers, on-the-ground training is essential for reasonable accuracy in age estimation. South. J. Appl. For.13(1):40-42.

Abstract:
Abstract For the first time, an economic analysis of a fully simulated forest transformation process from even-aged to uneven-aged stand structure using natural regeneration was performed using an individual tree growth simulator. A comparison to a ‘business as usual’ management approach (i.e. age-class scenario) was also made. Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.)-dominated forests of different ages were selected for the simulation: forest at thinning stage (52 years; hereafter, ‘younger stand’) and a mature stand (95 years) to explore different starting points for the transformation. The harvested and remaining stand volume showed only little fluctuation over the course of the simulation period in the case of the transformation (uneven-aged) scenario. The age-class scenario, on the other hand, showed peaks and drops in the timber volume. The land expectation values at the end of transformation were higher (i = 1 or 2 per cent) or equal (i = 3 per cent) to those of the age-class scenario for the younger stand. The transformation of younger forests appears to be economically interesting (under interest rates above 2 per cent) as the early revenues of more intensive thinnings achieve an equilibrium growing stock well below the potential maximum growing stock of an even-aged stand. This suggests transformation management to be economically efficient under the given silvicultural and economic conditions. The transformation of mature stands was found to be less economically viable due to the lower holding values for the transformation (uneven-aged) scenario compared with the age-class scenario. However, the holding values of the younger stand were higher for all interest rates compared with the age-class scenario. This study concludes that transformation (uneven-aged) scenario yielded more economically viable silvicultural approach (in the case of younger forests) and a steadier trend in harvested and remaining timber volume showing no major fluctuations. Transformation approach also forms a better foundation where other ecosystem services can be built.

Abstract:
Aged care is projected to be the fastest-growing sector within health and community care industries Strengthening the care-giving workforce, compliance, delivery and technology is not only vital to our social infrastructure and improving the quality of care, but also has the potential to drive long-term economic growth and contribute to the GDP. This paper examines the role of knowledge management (KM) in aged care organizations to assist in the delivery of aged care. With limited research related to KM in aged care, this paper advances knowledge and offers a unique view of KM from the perspective of 22 aged care stakeholders. Using in-depth interviewing, this paper explores the definition of knowledge in aged care facilities, the importance of knowledge planning, capture and diffusion for accreditation purposes and offers recommendations for the development of sustainable knowledge management practice and development. The paper culminates in an offering a checklist for aged care facilities and advances the discourse in this sector.

Abstract:
Foot problems are common in elderly people and healthy feet are recognized as a key factor in maintaining activity and independence. People aged over 75 years exhibit a greater degree of foot pathology than a younger population and foot pain is prevalent in a high percentage of elderly patients. Foot problems impair mobility in many older people and may also contribute to falls. The immobility that results from a local foot problem can have a significant impact on the patient’s ability to maintain life as a useful member of society and has been identified as a common cause of unreported disability, often accepted as an accompaniment of the aging process. With increasing age, many foot problems which may have been well compensated for earlier in life will begin to reduce an elderly person’s mobility and health-related quality of life.

Abstract:
This study examines the role that older-aged parents play in the care and support of adult sons and daughters with HIV or AIDS and of AIDS orphans in Thailand within the context of a limited institutional safety net. The analysis draws on both quantitative and qualitative data from survey and open-ended interviews with the parents and from individual case information provided by key informants. The results show that health and welfare benefits provided to persons with HIV or AIDS in Thailand are significant but that this formal safety net still leaves the bulk of care and support, as well as the fostering of orphans, to the family. Reliance on parents is particularly common, a pattern that likely occurs in other developing countries with serious epidemics. Programs to improve caregiving and to provide support to persons affected by the epidemic need to recognize the crucial role of older-aged parents and to incorporate them in their efforts.
