Abstract:
This article draws on the findings from a qualitatively-led sequential mixed methods doctorate study which was located within the Irish Adult Educational Guidance Services (AEGS) and focused on the guidance counselling needs of adults with dyslexia. Honneth's (2003) conceptions of recognition, equality and social justice, and the interactionist and non-reductionist biopsychosocial (BPS) model of disability (WHO 2011) provided an opportunity to examine and interpret the findings as matters of social justice. The wider application of Honneth's theory and the BPS model to career counselling practice are also considered.

Abstract:
Qualitative research in career guidance has largely focused on how participants in guidance change due to their participation in different guidance or counselling interventions or activities. This article, conversely, describes how young people and adults seek to change and modify the guidance, and consequently how this changes the possibilities for participating in guidance for themselves and for others. This article presents data from a qualitative and explorative study of guidance in communities. One case study about career guidance in a factory setting is presented. The interplay between the participants’ (non-) participating and the career guidance practitioners response is analysed. The article describes how new opportunities for guidance emerge through changing the practice. The study suggests that participants try to change the delivery of guidance from individual interventions to more collective forms/modes of delivery.

Abstract:
Respiratory clinical guidelines provide clinicians with evidence-based guidance for practice. Clinical guidelines also provide an opportunity to identify the knowledge and technical and non-technical skills required by respiratory ward-based registered nurses. The aim of this review was to use a systematic process to establish the core technical and non-technical skills and knowledge identified in evidence-based clinical guidelines that enable the care of hospitalised adult respiratory patients.17 guidelines were identified in our systematic review. The quality assessment demonstrated variability in these guidelines. Common core knowledge and technical and non-technical skills were identified. These include pathophysiology, understanding of physiological measurements and monitoring, education, counselling, and ward and patient management. The knowledge and skills extracted from respiratory clinical guidelines may inform a curriculum for ward-based respiratory nursing to ensure optimal care of adult patients.

Abstract:
Gender advocates have bemoaned the diatribe about women inequality at the neglect of males’ vulnerability in abstract narratives. We propose that achievement of female empowerment will be complimented by empirically exploring men’s vulnerability themes wrapped in “masculinity” with cultural differences. This study documented views on male vulnerability in the Ghanaian environment using mixed-method design with 189 respondents conveniently. Chi square goodness-of-fit test, and thick descriptions were applied to the open-ended questionnaire items. Indeed, 74% of the participants agreed that Ghanaian males were vulnerable with 26% expressing contrary views. With nine overarching themes generated, gender was not a significant factor in categorising male vulnerability (Σ2 (8) = 10.836, p > .05). We concluded that both sexes appear to have shared views on Ghanaian males’ vulnerability issues and recommended for gender advocates to expand the equality discourse to cover males’ vulnerability. Implications for adult education and guidance and counselling practices are indicated.

Abstract:
Throughout the journey from infancy to childhood & from childhood to adolescence, there is an important person who takes care of good oral hygiene, is a pediatric dentist. Pediatric dentistry includes disciplines such as behavior guidance, care of the medically and developmentally compromised and differently able patients. Proper supervision and observation of orofacial growth and development is also part of pediatric dentistry. In addition caries prevention procedures, sedation, pharmacological management and hospital dentistry, as well as other traditional procedures are also part of pediatric dentistry. Good pediatric dental practice starts with proper brushing, patient education, diet counselling, motivation and by spreading positivity. In the beginning pediatric dentistry was mainly concerned with extraction and restorations of deciduous teeth. The trend changed from extraction to preservations. Prevention and concentrating on minimal invasive procedures are the present concept of pediatric dental practice. Any curative treatment provided should be minimally invasive, preferably nonsurgical and should conserve tooth structure as much as possible. In addition, an inadequate and unsatisfactory dental treatment during childhood can permanently damage the entire masticatory apparatus of the child leaving him with many dental problems commonly encountered in today’s adult population. Long lasting beneficial effects also can result when the seeds for future dental health are planted early in life (i.e. Childhood). Oral health needs of children have to be upraised

Abstract:
Thanks to a better knowledge of the genetic causes of many diseases and an improvement in genetic testing techniques, genetics has gained an important role in the multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease and aortic pathology. With the introduction of strategies for precision medicine, it is expected that this will only increase further in the future. Because basic knowledge of the indications, the opportunities as well as the limitations of genetic testing is essential for correct application in clinical practice, this consensus document aims to give guidance to care-providers involved in the follow-up of adults with congenital heart defects and/or with hereditary aortic disease. This paper is the result of a collaboration between the ESC Working Group of Grown-Up Congenital Heart Disease, the ESC Working Group on Aorta and Peripheral Vascular Disease and the European Society of Human Genetics. Throughout the document, the importance of correct counseling in the process of genetic testing is emphasized, indications and timing for genetic studies are discussed as well as the technical modalities of genetic testing. Finally, the most important genetic diseases in adult congenital heart disease and aortic pathology are also discussed.

Abstract:
Since, children are affected by the coronavirus in the same way as adults, examining the children's knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) on COVID-19 would help in building a pandemic-resilient society. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding COVID-19 among primary school students. This online, cross-sectional study was conducted from May 18 to 20, 2021 among students aged 9 to 12 years old and having access to WhatsApp messenger on their smartphones. The study participants were selected from 17 primary schools in Kedah, Malaysia by convenience , and the Google form invitation link was shared by the schools’ guidance and counselling teachers. Analysis revealed higher females (53%) and majority aged 12 years (27.8%) out of 1207. 56% of respondents possessed good knowledge on COVID-19 (M=4.21, SD=1.16) with 73.75% overall correct responses. Children demonstrated positive attitudes (M=3.64, SD=0.67) but had a higher perceived risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 (M=3.60, SD=1.23). For practices, low scores were discovered on avoid visiting crowded places (M=2.51, SD=1.22). Knowledge has a significant effect on children’s attitudes (Beta=0.17, p<0.001) and practices (Beta=0.25, p<0.001). Comparatively, females scored lower COVID-19 knowledge than males (Beta= -0.01, p=0.65). While age was significantly associated with increased knowledge (Beta=0.13, p<0.001), whereof, year 6 students (12 years; M=4.69, SD=1.23) scored the highest. Since knowledge is a critical tool in comprehending any phenomenon, and influencing one’s attitude and practice towards it, much effort is warranted to enhance the effectiveness of government strategies and mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction/Background: X-linked-dominant hypophosphatemia (XLH), formally known as vitamin-D-resistant rickets, is a rare, hereditary, chronic and progressive skeletal disorder, often perceived as a childhood disease only. Its estimated prevalence is 1 in 20,000. The perception that XLH does not require treatment once the growth plates fuse means that many adolescents/young adults (AYA) are lost to follow-up and then seek care for chronic musculoskeletal symptoms, including the consequences of osteomalacia (bone pain, pseudofractures, fractures) during adulthood. There is a need to improve the healthcare transition (HCT) preparation for AYA with XLH and other rare metabolic bone disorders (MBD) to facilitate consistent and effective care throughout the life span and lessen the psychosocial and economic burden associated with these disorders. Methods/Statement of the Problem: HCT timelines, milestones, and educational tools exist for some chronic conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease, but these programs do not meet the unique needs and nuances of patients with XLH and other rare MBD as they transfer to adult-focused healthcare. Consequently, specific tools and resources tailored by disease experts for these AYA are needed. Results/Proposed Solution: Detailed timelines with milestones and a description of a HCT program for AYA with XLH and other rare MBD have been adapted from best practice protocols. This program reflects the specific needs of, and complexities associated with these conditions. Furthermore, this approach describes how to facilitate better communication between adult- and pediatric-focused providers and their interdisciplinary teams. Our approach is guided by patient/caregiver input and existing models for research/clinical care, with the use of validated tools to measure HCT readiness. We identified the need for psychosocial and access-related resources for AYA emancipation from parental involvement, including a guidance document for parents on how to empower their child to take ownership of the disease as they grow. In addition, it is helpful to provide disease education, genetic counselling and guidance on family planning, to encourage patients to advocate for their healthcare (as access to specialists may be limited by geographical location), and to facilitate communication/education to patients through channels familiar to and accepted by AYA (e.g. online portals, text messages). Clear HCT preparation guidelines and treatment-related goals are defined for all stakeholders. A portfolio of supporting materials underpins optimization of outcomes as AYA with XLH and rare MBD transfer from pediatric- to adult-focused healthcare. Conclusion: Development of HCT tools/resources specific to XLH and other rare MBDs can help prevent loss to follow-up and promote continuous clinical care, thus driving better outcomes for AYA with these conditions.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: The aim of these clinical standards is to provide guidance on ‘best practice´ for diagnosis, treatment and management of drug-susceptible pulmonary TB (PTB).METHODS: A panel of 54 global experts in the field of TB care, public health, microbiology, and pharmacology were identified; 46 participated in a Delphi process. A 5-point Likert scale was used to score draft standards. The final document represents the broad consensus and was approved by all 46 participants.RESULTS: Seven clinical standards were defined: Standard 1, all patients (adult or child) who have symptoms and signs compatible with PTB should undergo investigations to reach a diagnosis; Standard 2, adequate bacteriological tests should be conducted to exclude drug-resistant TB; Standard 3, an appropriate regimen recommended by WHO and national guidelines for the treatment of PTB should be identified; Standard 4, health education and counselling should be provided for each patient starting treatment; Standard 5, treatment monitoring should be conducted to assess adherence, follow patient progress, identify and manage adverse events, and detect development of resistance; Standard 6, a recommended series of patient examinations should be performed at the end of treatment; Standard 7, necessary public health actions should be conducted for each patient. We also identified priorities for future research into PTB.CONCLUSION: These consensus-based clinical standards will help to improve patient care by guiding clinicians and programme managers in planning and implementation of locally appropriate measures for optimal person-centred treatment for PTB.

Abstract:
AbstractApproximately 20% of patients diagnosed with a phaeochromocytoma or paraganglioma carry a germline mutation in one of the succinate dehydrogenase (SDHx) genes (SDHA, SDHB, SDHC and SDHD), which encode the four subunits of the SDH enzyme. When a pathogenic SDHx mutation is identified in an affected patient, genetic counselling is proposed for first-degree relatives. Optimal initial evaluation and follow-up of people who are asymptomatic but might carry SDHx mutations have not yet been agreed. Thus, we established an international consensus algorithm of clinical, biochemical and imaging screening at diagnosis and during surveillance for both adults and children. An international panel of 29 experts from 12 countries was assembled, and the Delphi method was used to reach a consensus on 41 statements. This Consensus Statement covers a range of topics, including age of first genetic testing, appropriate biochemical and imaging tests for initial tumour screening and follow-up, screening for rare SDHx-related tumours and management of elderly people who have an SDHx mutation. This Consensus Statement focuses on the management of asymptomatic SDHx mutation carriers and provides clinicians with much-needed guidance. The standardization of practice will enable prospective studies in the near future.

Abstract:
IntroductionWith an increasing prevalence of citizens of older age and with overweight, the health issues related to knee osteoarthritis (OA) will intensify. Weight loss is considered a primary management strategy in patients with concomitant overweight and knee OA. However, there are no widely available and feasible methods to sustain weight loss in patients with overweight and knee OA. The present protocol describes a randomised controlled trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist liraglutide in a 3 mg/day dosing in patients with overweight and knee OA.Methods and analysis150 volunteer adult patients with overweight or obesity and knee OA will participate in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group and single-centre trial. The participants will partake in a run-in diet intervention phase (week −8 to 0) including a low calorie diet and dietetic counselling. At week 0, patients will be randomised to either liraglutide 3 mg/day or liraglutide placebo 3 mg/day for 52 weeks as an add-on to dietetic guidance on re-introducing regular foods and a focus on continued motivation to engage in a healthy lifestyle. The co-primary outcomes are changes in body weight and the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score pain subscale from week 0 to week 52.Ethics and disseminationThe trial has been approved by the regional ethics committee in the Capital Region of Denmark, the Danish Medicines Agency and the Danish Data Protection Agency. An external monitoring committee (The Good Clinical Practice Unit at Copenhagen University Hospitals) will oversee the trial. About eight years ago I co-wrote a paper on guidance officer training in Victoria which argued that guidance officers required training in six core competency areas. There were identified as assessment, counselling, research, educational consultancy, systems intervention, and professional practice. At the time, the intent was to argue for a broader training for guidance officers rather than the traditional focus on issues of assessment and counselling. It was recognising an international trend in service delivery from individual casework models to those which incorporated consultancy and direct classroom interventions. The paperwas arguing fora comprehensive training program which supported guidance officers and gave them the skills and strategies required to make this shift.

Abstract:
HIV-positive adolescents are required by law to notify sexual partners, but can find it difficult to achieve this goal. This article offers practice guidance for counselling HIV-positive adolescents about sexual disclosure in clinical settings and for building confidence in managing sexual lives with HIV. We use two vignettes to illustrate key differences between perinatally and sexually infected adolescents in terms of readiness to disclose, and include a set of strategies for both groups that can be tailored to individual circumstances and contexts. The toolbox of strategies we describe include pre-counselling, focused counselling, social support groups and technical support. Pre-counselling helps to identify barriers and motivations to sexual disclosure and is followed by counselling sessions in which the focus is on role playing and sexual scripts for disclosure. Peer-led support groups are designed to boost adolescent confidence, and pre-paid cell phones, text messaging, ready-dial phone numbers and a private Facebook page provide back-up support and out-of-hours contact. Since sexual disclosure can be a risky proposition, safety plans, such as having an emergency contact person, should always be in place. These strategies are designed to empower vulnerable adolescents, foster trust between patient and provider, and reduce HIV transmission to sexual partners.

Abstract:
This paper describes the changing role, practice and institutional setting of career guidance and counselling in Hungary from the 1950s to the present time. The article defines the relation between the institutional settings (polity), changes in the content of guidance policies implemented in those decades (policy), and decision-making processes (politics). It is argued that the lack of institutional resilience and the vagueness of the career guidance theoretical models created a relatively unstable guidance system in Hungary. Our description concerns both the theoretical development of guidance and counselling and legislative and institutional changes. It addresses the changing role of career guidance and counselling, including access to guidance service, and the changing perception of the two manifested by citizens, companies and politicians.

Abstract:
Purpose: This study explored the nature of guidance and counselling services available for the students in Komenda College of Education. Methodology: The descriptive survey design was used for the study. A sample of 185 students consisting of 95 level 200 students and 90 level 300 students were sampled from the population. The major instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. Questionnaire was used because it is the most appropriate instrument that could be used to collect data on the variables for the study. Content-related evidence of validity was established for the instrument. The researchers personally administered the questionnaire. The entry of quantitative data and analysis was done using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings: The results from the study showed that guidance and counselling services were vibrant and visible in Komenda College of Education. The study revealed that Seventy-five per cent (75%) of the respondents claimed that attitudes of Guidance and Counselling Coordinators and Tutors were very appropriate for counselling services. All types of guidance and counselling services were rendered in the college. The study further revealed that some students had negative attitudes towards accessing guidance and counselling services. Unique Contribution to Practice and Policy: The researchers therefore recommend that, school authorities should be provided with needed logistics for effective guidance and counselling services in schools and colleges. Also, there should be in-service trainings and refresher courses and seminars for guidance and counselling coordinators to up-date their skills in guidance and counselling. Finally, the Ghana Education Service should organise periodic educational programmes for both teachers and students on the role of guidance and counselling in schools and colleges.

Abstract:
The paper examined the perception of student counsellors studying Guidance and Counselling in various Nigerian Universities on ethical codes which should guide and protect the counselling profession. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and two corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,500 students, drawn from selected Nigerian universities using the multistage sampling technique. The instrument used to gather data for the study was a 50 item questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The psychometric properties were determined and found adequate for use. The test-re-test method was applied to determine reliability which yielded r = 0.88. Senior lecturers in the Department of Guidance and Counselling ascertained content and construct adequacy of the instrument. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and t-test to test the hypotheses. The study found out that respondents perceived counselling codes highly irrespective of their gender and religious beliefs although male respondents showed stronger agreement. It was therefore recommended that the Counselling Association of Nigeria should develop counselling ethical codes for professional counselling practice in Nigeria without considering any bias for gender and religion.

Abstract:
Purpose: This study intended to consider the patronage and effectiveness of guidance and counselling programmes offered to Junior High Schools (J.H.S.) students in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. Methodology: The researchers used exploratory research design for the study. The researchers considered all the 105 Junior High Schools (J.H.S.) in the Municipality as the subject for the study. The researchers sampled 50 schools for data collection. They (researchers) administered questionnaire to the headmasters and teachers in-charge of guidance and counselling in the selected 50 Junior High Schools (JHSs) arriving at a total of 100 respondents. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaire. Data gathered were analysed in tables and converting them into percentages. Findings: The findings revealed that, guidance and counselling services were available in the schools with qualified and experienced officers to handle issues as and when they happen. They also offer prompt response to such issues. It further came out that there were not even a single school in the Municipality, which had a place as an office earmarked for guidance and counselling services. There were also some interference from other teachers, parents and headmasters in the affairs of counselling which hampered the effectiveness of the guidance and counselling services. Some teachers too felt reluctant to report identified problems to the notice of the counselling coordinators. Unique Contribution to Practice and Policy: The researchers suggested that misconceptions that some teachers, parents and other stakeholders have about guidance and counselling services should be expunged from their minds. Finally, recommendations from the researchers were that, to improve the guidance and counselling services for junior high school students in KEEA Municipality there should be regular workshops and orientation for teachers who ate mandated to offer guidance and counselling services to students. Teachers should be made to understand that counselling is geared towards cooperation, teamwork and meant for all students and develop well in confidential setting. The researchers suggested that guidance and counselling services should be infused into the schools’ timetable like the assembly and worship.

Abstract:
School guidance counsellors worldwide seek ways of providing appropriate professional assistance to all students. While young people integrate online technology into their daily lives and go online for information and to communicate with each other, school counsellors in Australia are not offering online support to students. This cross-sectional study reported on the reluctance of school counsellors to offer online counselling and the reasons for this. A survey was developed focusing on the intention to offer online counselling based on indicative factors favouring the use of this initiative. 210 school guidance counsellors completed the survey online, which showed that there is conditional support for the introduction of online counselling into the school setting. Counsellors indicated that they would use online counselling if students accepted its use in the school setting though they question how genuine students would be in its use. Most respondents reported a lack of confidence in understanding the ethical and legal implications of online counselling. However, the majority of participants were prepared to undertake further professional development in this mode of counselling. Additionally, they sought confirmation of the effectiveness of counselling students online before committing themselves to it. The implications for school guidance practice are discussed.

Abstract:
Clinical supervision of counsellors is linked to accountable practice and the quality of service to clients. Despite this, there is a gap between the rhetoric of the literature and the practice of clinical supervision. This study, set in the context of the Queensland Department of Education, examined the perceptions of guidance officers and senior guidance officers about the clinical supervision provided for guidance officers by senior guidance officers in relation to their counselling practices. The findings echo concerns expressed in the literature that supervisors have received little training in supervision, and the provision of supervision outside of training settings is less than adequate.

Abstract:
This study sought to review the school guidance and counselling program in Uganda as an underdeveloped country in comparison with that of Germany as a developed one. The study was prompted by the unending unemployment and the rising poverty levels, especially in the underdeveloped world. These are some of the most challenging bottlenecks to economic development in the third world and can only be solved by a well aligned and strategically designed education system as per Goal 4.7 of the United Nation’s Strategic Development Goals. The study applied a qualitative thematic approach to collect data from existing frameworks, guidelines and studies on school guidance and counselling of the two countries. The study established that the easy access of guidance and counselling program information from various sources in Germany helps students to make informed decisions for their future career, which boosts the country’s attainment of intended educational, manpower goals and objectives. Unlike Germany, Uganda misses a lot of information, for instance, on opportunities that would help international students and immigrants to make informed decisions toward their future careers. The study recommends that the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports considers overhauling its School guidance and counselling program since there are numerous gaps as compared with that of Germany. Germany can also consider developing school guidance and counselling curriculum to standardize that practice across the country.

Abstract:
Introduction. In a modern dynamic society, new vocations and fields of activity are constantly emerging. The goal of the modern vocational education, information and counselling is to enable the individual to develop a career in the whole life course, full of changes and events. Former approaches have proved inadequate; therefore, new ways are being sought. Therefore, it is necessary to design approaches in managing careers, including those with special needs, and which counselling approaches for a career are best suited to an increasingly dynamic labour market. Aim and task. The basic research goal is to find all those innovations in theories and practices that appear in newer career guidance and career counselling approaches. For that purpose,, an longitudinal analysis of articles, studies, guidelines has been carried out that are accessible on web portals. Thus, the most important innovations that are often found in recent theories and practices are revealed. Results. System theories and constructivism in career guidance represent an urgent response to changes in a dynamic society, but still include some parts of previous theories and practices. Meaning, the present essentially implies the accumulating and merging of previous approaches that deal with individuals in a way that individuals become agents who manage their own careers. The most important innovations are: learning as the individual's own project, narrative approach with storytelling, reconstruction of self-esteem, self-determination, nonlinear career, empathy in counselling, decision-making autonomy, no directed counselling. So new constructivist perspective continues to influence career theory and practice. Conclusions. The study shows that it is impossible to talk about the best universal theories or approaches in the field of career guidance and career counselling, but about the most usable ones, in the given circumstances. The development of practices in career guidance and counselling is most influenced by psychology, and recently also by social-cognitive psychology, but the influence of other disciplines, such as sociology, ethics, economics and others, is increasing. Innovations that have been identified show the integration of diverse concepts; in particular, the contextual view that appears also in other social sciences. In emphasizing the active nature of individuals as self-building, self-renewing and self-organizing system within constructivist approach, it is viewed as important underpinning for the practice which is responding to ever changing times.

Abstract:
Because of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, Ukraine has suffered and will suffer significant damage to infrastructure, the rehabilitation of which will require highly qualified personnel, especially skilled workers. Despite the high demand in the labor market for skilled workers in Ukraine, only 15% of youth among the 9th-grade graduates of general secondary education institutions choose vocational education and training (VET) institutions. Such a discouraging trend is explained by the low popularization of VET among the youth of Ukraine, caused by the imperfect system of vocational guidance and professional counselling of student youth. The article is aimed at studying the best practices of EU countries on the popularization of VET among young people and describing steps to increase it in Ukraine. In our view, the popularization of VET is an opportunity to encourage young people and adults to choose VET by offering them high-quality qualifications that open up career prospects and a decent salary. The best practices in countries such as Serbia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, where the proportion of high school students preferring VET is highest, shows that effective career guidance and counselling systems exist in these countries, using an individual approach to each individual. Since 2021, the government of Ukraine launched a large-scale campaign to popularize VET, aimed at increasing the attractiveness of VET and changing the approach to career guidance among schoolchildren, as a result of which in 2021 compared to the previous year, the number of students enrolled in VET has increased. Also, a positive trend is this year's increase in the number of regional applications for the training of workers and specialists in regions remote from the combat zone. However, the low popularization of VET among young people remains a challenge. The main ways to address this problem are the introduction of effective career guidance and counselling system; the establishment of regional career guidance centres; the introduction of a career counsellor in VET institutions; maximum involvement of business in the popularization of labor professions, etc. During the period of martial law in Ukraine, the VET will play a strategic role in providing our country with labor force.

Abstract:
Moral sensitivity, the ability to recognize ethical issues when they arise in practice, is a key premise for career practitioners’ professional conduct of Career Guidance Counselling (CGC). Due to the diversity of ethical issues related to CGC and the situational contingency of ethical problems, the assessment of moral sensitivity is challenging. The purpose of this article is to develop a novel measure of moral sensitivity, consisting of triad judgment tasks, to assess whether career practitioners are capable of identifying ten ethical issues related to the CGC practice. In this article, we present our theoretical approach, the development phases of the Guidance Ethical Sensitivity Test (GUEST) and the first administration of the GUEST. The reliability was assessed by performing Polychoric Correlations and Categorical Principal Components Analysis (CATCPA). Administrations showed that ethics experts and most groups with ethics training scored significantly higher than others without ethics training. Future GUEST validations and implications for CGC research, training and policy are discussed.

Abstract:
This study sought to assess the effects of practice of guidance and counselling appraisal/assessment services on learners’ discipline in primary schools in Mbeere South Sub County, Kenya. Survey research design was employed in the study. The population was 162 headteachers, 162 teacher counsellors, 4563 class eight pupils. The sample was 48 headteachers, 48 teacher counsellors and 376 pupils. Data for the study was collected by use of questionnaires. Data was analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics which included frequencies and percentages and also means and standard deviation. Data was presented by use of frequency distribution tables (FDT). Findings revealed that teachers did not employ important guidance and counselling services such as assisting pupils minimize frustrations in life, assisting pupils balance academic work and recreation, assisting pupils realize their fullest potential in school, they also did not make referral cases on pupils with severe challenges. Findings also revealed that teacher counsellors did not provide appraisal/assessment services on learners. The study concluded that teacher counsellors did not employ the required guidance and counselling practices which could be a cause for indiscipline cases in the schools. It was also concluded that schools did not have appropriate appraisal/assessment services to enhance discipline among the pupils. Among the recommendations that the study came out with included a replication of a similar study in an urban setting. It was also recommended that a study on parental upbringing and its influence on learner discipline may be carried out. Lastly there was a recommendation of a study to establish how integration of guidance and counselling has influenced curriculum implementation in schools.

Abstract:
The task-based nature of careers practice has often prevented careers practitioners from being directly and substantively involved in achieving organisational goals. As a result, careers work has become vulnerable to criticisms about its validity, and concern has been expressed about its general accountability. In the United States, careers guidance and counselling has moved towards the concept of careers programs as a way of addressing some of these issues. The United States' experience suggests that strategic program planning is an important skill for careers practitioners to acquire and use. This article describes strategic program planning, what it involves, and why careers practitioners should use it.
